So Kobo released a three chapter preview of Wottg

i get that he was absolutely going for the “oh ha ha breaking the fourth wall” moment bc *gasp* we’re reading a book with percy as the main character!

but it’s really just very annoying considering that thee literal lightning thief starts off with percy telling his story, as a way to help other demigods. and since RR has called himself the scribe of CHB since the beginning, we can assume that he is writing down the story that percy is telling. which y’know. would mean there’s something written about him. but who cares about continuity, right?

Yeah, hi, it's me again with my live reactions to the Wottg book preview. Kill me. Just end my suffering please, 'cause I cant anymore. BECAUSE WDYM ANNABETH WANTS TO THROW A PARTY AT HECATE'S HOUSE!?!?!?!?!? WTF ??? WHY!?

Like do I even have to say how OOC this is!? Especially for ANNABETH! Percy just told her, while pretty scarred, that he has a quest to house-sit Hecate's mansion. And THE FIRST REACTION TO THAT IS "LET'S THROW A PARTY" They KNOW how bad of an idea this is! Like- sure let's throw a party at the house of a goddess without her knowledge or permission! That definitely won't cause any issues! Definitely won't cause her curse us!

Like Jesus Christ Annabeth, you're supposed to be the SMART ONE!? ATLEAST USE SOME BASIC COMMON SENSE.

Grover was also super OOC, but honestly I expected that from the summary. Rick ofc also had another case of "I can't remember my own stuff!" with Grover and the "most satyrs depend on the mist to hide their goat legs" line. Because wtf were Grover's fake feet in TLT then Rick???

I- I genuinly don't think this book will be very good. Like from just the preview there were already 2 cases of Rick not remembering his own stuff, unfunny humor and jokes and 2/3 of the main characters just being unbelievably ooc. Praying that there will be SOME sort of explanation for this frankly braindead behavior on Annabeth's side.

Is this a safe space? I only ask because I recently read the wottg preview, and while I agree with everyone's problems, the biggest one I have is that it seems Rick's Writing has gone down in significant quality. He was never the best writer, but compared the original five to these first three chapters, it's like two different people. It's genuinely Dog doo doo piles of writing, and you could excuse it ghostwriter/ trying to appeal to the people who watched the show first, but it's genuinely not very good

I've seen a lot of hate for the previews of wottg with people saying that rick has just written this book for money, and the characters aren't accurate.

That he's just gone on a crazy tangent and isn't doing anymore fan service.

Especially hate towards annabeth for wanting to throw a party and to grover.

What's your take?

Love this ask soo much!! Thank you anon because now I have a reason to rant on the thoughts in my head and I promise you I didn't think I would write this much...

Percy's mental condition as shown in the first chapter is pretty well displayed in my opinion. My boy is fed up, requires therapy, a break and blue food but he has to face WEEKEND CLASSES (I have them and I can tell you that they are the absolutely worst way to torture your sanity). I'll give Rick points for this though. The entire episode with Hecate was also written well and IT DID NOT FEEL LIKE FANSERVICE TO ME ATLEAST. Percy feels like himself at least from the preview I can say.

HOWEVER I have my own set of issues too. Now I will tell you that I am a kind of person who refrains from the negatives of any situation before seeing the whole story BUT sometimes I have opinions which I will express now. To start off, I do not like they way Rick just made Grover and his hooves not appear because of the mist concept. This was actually a deal in tlt and have it just discarded away in one line in the book put me off a little. I love continuity in books and small errors are like pricking needles for me.

Now we come to the most controversial moment of them all: CHAPTER 3!!! See I love Annabeth having friends (happier because it fulfills my Annabeth being a social butterfly head canon). I love Hana loathing Percy (she definitely has a crush on Annabeth, fight me). But I have an issue with the way Percy sees himself when he is in the midst of her friends. He makes himself inferior and an idiot when he absolutely isn't and I have an issue with that because it isn't good!

Annabeth proposing to have a party is slightly out of character in MY OPINION but okay I can accept it and see how Rick wants to proceed with this so neutral on that till now. HOWEVER I hope he makes Annabeth and Percy have a fight on this because Percy has to let out his problems and their relationship needs to have some angst from time to time (also in my opinion).

Overall, I am extremely excited and hoping to read the book as soon as it arrives (curse you Amazon). I believe that you can't hate the book on the basis of the preview but there are few... unsettling things which can be set right if handled well later in the book. I do think sometimes Rick does not effectively utilise the potential but I'll read the book nevertheless. It's the very reason I look forward to live through my exams. So yeah I have no strong opinions and would most probably drop in a detailed analysis after I actually read the book.

if wottg was the same for the first chapters released for the preview and was a different and better book after that it would be a book about annabeth going on a bender and percy being paralysed by his hatred and fear of himself

Have you seen the Wottg preview yet? Bc ngl as someone who read it it's BAD. Possibly the worst one yet. It's like a giant, disgusting milkshake of everything I dislike Rick for. Grover and Annabeth are super OOC, everything is rushed, there are multiple typo and he switched up names even.

Everything I've ever read of TOA, TSATS, and whatever the fuck we're calling the new trilogy (not pjo), has been shown to me against my will.

Sometimes that's a good thing, because people will send me little ship (mostly percico) moments.

But mostly it's a bad thing. I don't have to tell you why it's bad. But we all know I don't like Rick's writing (even outside of PJO, I'm not a fan of his other works).

So uh no. I haven't read it and I'm not going to read it unless someone sends something to me directly. But I believe you when you say that it sucks.

Hi!! So I did read the preview of wottg but all I could think is EEEEKKK IM SO EXCITED so there’s not much to say.

I just started reading the book and when I’m done I’ll post my highlighted parts just bc I’d think it would be fun. I might even post my highlighted parts from the other pjo books if I feel like it just because I didn’t have anyone to share them with when I made those annotations (I didn’t have tumblr yet) but now I do::))
