I aim low / I aim true, and the ground's where I go / I work late, where I'm free from the phone / and the job gets done, but you worry some, I know
“TOO SWEET”, Unreal Unearth: Unending (2024) [ HOZIER ]
Tumblr media
In “Too Sweet” Hozier draws a contrast between two individuals with different lifestyles and preferences, one who enjoys living life at his own pace, indulging in simple pleasures like whiskey, coffee, and late nights while not worrying too much about conforming to societal norms of waking up early and living a disciplined life, and a second individual, presumably the partner, is portrayed as someone who values discipline, health, and structure. They encourage the narrator to live a healthier lifestyle, waking up early and taking care of themselves.
Born from the 3rd Circle of Hell, Gluttony, same as his track, “Eat Your Young”, Hozier examines excessive mess and overindulgence, similiar to Dante’s depiction of gluttony where it not only refers to overconsumption of food and drink but also the overindulgence in any worldly pleasure to the detriment of spiritual growth.

Earth 94 - Justice League FanArt
Sometimes, I like to imagine an DC Earth where the 90s never ended. Where the changes to DC's characters didn't snap back. Superman stayed dead, Batman's back stayed broken, Wonder Woman lost her role as champion of the Amazons, etc.
It just so happens that I found an artist (@/MadsDuck on BlueSky) that was able to put together some awesome fanart.
Tumblr media
Now, there was a JLA in the 90s, but you can see this one is slightly different. We have some familiar faces - Wally West as the Flash, Kyle Rayner is Green Lantern, Diana is still Wonder Woman (even without the classic costume), and Arthur Curry is still the only Aquaman.
But in this world, Kal-El never recovered from his battle with Doomsday, and so The Eradicator took up his mission on Earth. Bruce Wayne was no able to recover from his spinal injuries, so Dick Grayson defeated Azreal, took back the mantle of Batman, and adopted this slick new armor. Finally, J'onn J'onzz decided to (at least temporarily) carry on the legacy of Bloodwynd to protect those who are persecuted.
Anyway, I'm not starting a fancomic. I just think the designs were cool. I don't know how it would go, I just like to imagine certain events have to happen - Zero Hour, Final Night, (Day of Judgement, I guess), and I like to think the last event I would like to see is some new version of "Our Worlds At War."
If you don't know, "Our Worlds At War" kinda became DC's version of 9/11, and it was 9/11 that truly ended the era of the 90s.
Shout out to @truthjusticeandhope who originally came up with calling it "Earth-94"

Dark Fantasy Afterlife
"When mortals die and flit off to the spirit world, they bring with them all their guilt and all the pain they ever caused and they form Hell. Only the blameless don't linger and instead immediately go on to wherever you go after-after.
"There were Caretakers there, that's what we called them at least. We don't know what they were, such as angels placed there by a benevolent god or older souls that worked out how to do this on their own. They helped people get over their damnation, let go of their guilt and become purified of their sins. They helped them move on to whatever comes next and they helped everyone.
"A long while ago, there were two men- at least, they might've been men and we'll say they were to move on. One was a very awful man who did a lot of awful things to an awful lot of people. The Caretakers took his soul and knew they would be busy with him for a while. In the meantime, he would suffer under the weight of his sins until they could finish purifying him, or so they figured.
"The other man was a victim of the first and he took great offense to the idea that his tormenter would every be free of his. Then this man somehow contrived a way to destroy this system. We're not sure what the Destroyer did to the Caretakers, if he, well, destroyed them, imprisoned them or what. He rendered them moot in some fashion.
"And nothing else has managed to replace the Caretakers or their system. We're not sure why but it seems likely that the Destroyer still lingers, making it so that nothing may arise that might free his tormenter from his torment.
"Because one man wanted to make sure another man rotted in Hell forever, now we all must rot in Hell forever."

This movie is incredibly bad and at most bland as hell. Unfortunately even with the amount of characters they have that are so interesting they do nothing with it. What are your thoughts on the movie if you seen it? Thanks for all the support guys!

I think the thing about “John Wick is a blank slate protagonist as long as you separate him from his Keanu Reeves-ness, which is his one source of characterization,” is that you can’t separate him from Keanu Reeves. Maybe even more so than standard for the medium (where the performance is always as, if not more, important to the character than what’s “on the page"). This is a character precision crafted to be The ideal Keanu Reeves vehicle. Made in a lab to play to all of Keanu’s strengths. Which mostly lie in nonverbal acting, and include “guy who is stiff and socially awkward and doesn’t say much, but radiates some sort of wisdom/melancholy/unspoken complexity;” “guy who combines strength with delicateness;” and “guy who is fed up with this and would really really really like to go home now.”

Aang being a shitty dad is fine, but it's the way tlok makes Aang a shitty I have a problem with. You're telling me a guy who's entire culture was whipped out and whole family was massacred wasn't overjoyed at the possibility of sharing his culture with his entire family?
Would Aang have given more attention to Tenzin? Probably, them being the only airbenders would have almost certainly fostered a complex dynamic between the two— even to the extent that it would damage the father/son relationship. I think it's also worth pointing out that Aang was raised in a culture without the nuclear family dynamic we see him participarting in with Katara and their kids, and it's not out of the realm of possibility that Aang would fall short of the expectations and responibilities being a typical father figure brings especially when he himself never experienced that dynamic. Especially, especially compounded with the task of rebuilding a struggling world and maintaining peace.
However, do I think he would neglect to show his kids his culture? Their culture? No. Certainly not the extent he did, and especially not when we see how excited he is to share it with his friends in the show. Why wouldn't he be excited to share it with his kids? With all his kids? How the writers of The Legend of Korra make him a bad dad is a complex series of failures not the least of which stem from racism, the unwillingness to even attempt an understanding of multicultural families, TLOK originally being a 12 episode miniseries that then got greenlit for another season and was suddenly taxed with building upon a world that was never intended to exist beyond its original scope, and a fundamental misunderstanding of Aang as a character.
tldr: see
Tumblr media
#he probably would have been a kinda shitty dad just Not Like That#and while were here#why is bumi portrayed as essentially cultureless? certainly there were non benders in the air nomads#and why does the show act like only Bolin is from the earth nation and Mako from the fire nation?#because these white! creators fundamentally do not understand what living in a multicultural household is like#and were completely incurious to what the experience might've been like for these characters#and again. to harp on the whole building upon a world that was never intended to exist outside its original premise thing#that's why the writing gets weaker in the second season and picks back up in the third#these writers are clearly talented but so obviously fumbled when it came to expanded on these characters#who were written for a short quick one off series and then suddenly had to exist outside of that#all of the arcs and story beats were pretty one note and quick because book 1 is a full complete story#that's why only book 1 ties into the name conventions of atla#because all of the legend of korra was originally built to just be book one#and then suddenly your stuck with this story that you had completely wrapped up#and characters who now have to be expanded beyond what they were intended to be#and the writers very clearly could not do that. that's why Aang being a shitty dad comes out of left field almost.#and why none of the villains tie into each other until the very end with a quick little explanation#and it's also why the world building is so much weaker than atla#atla was know for it's compelling world building and dynamic side characters None of which exist in tlok#or well. they do! in a much smaller diluted form.#because functionally the story is still trapped in the original confines of the first season#and also trapped in the back there is 50% less content every season#no time to experience a small village in the fire nation! we gotta get to plot!#no time to flesh out the comic relief character!! plot! gotta get to the plot!!#and they couldn't even make that plot good in the second season.#atla#tlok#aang#:v

#hi. this is going to be an ugly one#feel free to skip this because its gonna be rough#personal#in the winter of 2015 my girlfriend took her own life. she said she was sick and stayed home from school#she texted me “I love you.” and i knew she was gone before anyone would tell me#her parents murdered her. not directly. they didn't lay a hand on her. but they made her life so miserable that she felt she had#no other choice than to die. because they were homophobic. because they didn't believe in mental illness.#because they believed she could be 'cured' thru jesus. and they didn't love her for who she really was#and i hate them. i hate them more than any people on earth. because they will never admit it#they will never admit their role in her death. they blamed it on her eating disorder and brushed everything else under the rug#i didn't get to know her that well before she died. we only knew each other a few months.#and i.... god damnit#it still makes me so angry#this was nearly 10 years ago i cant fucking believe it.#her parents got all the fucking sympathy in the world when they deserved none.#they fucking killed her. anyone who actually knew her knows it. but no one is brave enough to say it#her dad worked at the school i had to go to for 3 more years and i just wanted to#either crawl in a hole or punch him in his stupid fucking face#everytime i saw him. she's dead because they couldn't conceive of a world where she could be gay and happy#or athiest and a good person. she told me she didn't believe any of the stuff her family did and i nearly threw up at her funeral#because it was all about god and jesus. and honestly it was barely about her. it was all about jumping on the pity train#for their poor parents.#i ran away from the casket. i didnt think she wouldve wanted any of this shit. i couldnt bear it#and i think. they sent her to one of those bullshit religious camps that abuse kids instead of actually treating their conditions#i honestly dont know what all they put her through. it makes me sick to imagine it.#i get all worked up about this everytime its terrible. i just cant understand how you can do that to your own child#and they fucking got away with it.#it makes me so furious beyond fucking reason like its un fucking real#sometimes living is . much harder than dying. i cant really elaborate much more than that#i miss you.
