As much as you love Jamie, you’re of the opinion that his fashion taste could use a little work. You know that he puts time and care into buying pieces and putting together outfits, and you love that he knows the styles he feels best in, but there are only so many expensive matching sweat sets and tracksuits you can look at in your closet before going insane. He knows how to clean up well, has an extensive repertoire of date night outfits and clothes for events, as well as more casual outfits, but you wouldn’t be upset if all of his puffer vests magically disappeared.

“I got you a present,” you say as you enter the kitchen, throwing your shopping bags onto the table before turning to Jamie with a grin. “Ok, it’s really a present for me, but the physical object is for you.” You’d been doing some window shopping, with the desire to find a few pieces to spice up and update your cold weather wardrobe, when you’d stumbled into a shop you’ve never heard of, drawn in by the colorful knitwear in the window.

The whole store was full of sweaters and vests and scarves and hats, any sort of knit object you could imagine, in an array of decadent, rich colors and yarn so soft it seemed obscene. You could have spent hours in there, inspecting every single piece twice over, when you managed to find the most beautiful sweater imaginable. It’s a rich, deep green, perfect for the fall and winter months, and while you’d expected it to be at least a little scratchy, slipping it over your head was like entering a cloud. You’d barely looked at yourself in the mirror for a second before you made up your mind about purchasing it, certain you’d regret your decision forever if you left the store empty-handed.

As you made your way to the register, you passed by the men’s section, and you were so excited you could have squealed when you saw the same sweater you were currently holding, only this time in Jamie’s size. It was as if your hands were moving on their own accord as you snatched up the second sweater and marched towards the checkout, coming to outside the shop with two new sweaters, one for you and one for Jamie.

“Just try it on, ok? And keep an open mind?” You ask as you hand Jamie the shopping bag with his sweater, your matching one tucked in with the rest of your purchases. You can tell that you’re freaking him out a little, and that any normal item of clothing wouldn’t come with so many caveats, but he leaves the kitchen all the same, giving you just enough time to throw on your own sweater before he reemerges.

It takes him a few seconds, staring at you as your grin threatens to split your face, but then he’s laughing, doubling over with the force of it.

“Babe, this is ridiculous,” he says once he can breathe again, crossing the kitchen to wrap you in his arms.

“I know, that’s why I bought them,” you explain, rewarded for your joy with a kiss to your forehead.

“We’ll have to wear these tomorrow, when we go out for dinner,” he proposes, resisting the urge to laugh again.

The warm expanse of Keigo's bed calls to you, a siren's song for the ache in your bones after another stressful day. With each step, you kick off a shoe and let it plop to the floor, before planting yourself face down and letting loose a groan.

You deserve a break. You deserve to finally be rid of the thrumming in your head, the demands other people insist on shoving onto you. The piles and piles of trials and tribulations only chip away at what remains of your wellbeing.

Crawling further into the bed, you curl in on yourself and grip the nearest pillow in your clutch. Perhaps if you placed it over your eyes, you could drown out the world from more than just your vision; if you placed it over your ears, you could muffle the piercing sounds that ring in your head even now.

At least you have here. Right now, in the apartment of the hero you tend to call petnames more than "Hawks", the only sound you can hear is the distant drumming of water droplets against the tile of Keigo's shower. The sound is soothing, and it is nice to have a bit of alone time, but part of you wishes he'd hurry and rescue you from the swirling clouds of stress that bog down your mind.

It's become an unspoken rule between the two of you that when the world gets to be too much, you worldlessly let yourself in to the other's home in a silent plea to be doted on. It goes both ways; with Keigo preferring to let himself in through your unlocked window, and you preferring to use your spare key to get in to the sanctity of his home.

Keigo's home was always a sanctuary of solitude for him, a roosting place from the battering weather of the outside world.

And now it's your sanctuary, too.

He doesn't know how his home lasted so many years without you in it. Now, your place here is cemented in stone, a foundational brick that would cause the place to collapse if you were to ever be taken from him.

The patter of the shower slows to a halt, the sound of drip, drops getting further and further between.

"Oh!" Keigo stops in the doorway, mussing his hair with a towel and looking down at you. You're still lying face down. "With the lights off, too, babe? One of these days I'm not gonna see you, and you're gonna get flattened."

"Actually, you know what," you say, muffled into the sheets below. "Crush me. I don't mind. Can't be any worse than the week I've had."

Keigo's tongue clicks in sympathy, studying you out the corner of his eye, before he sits up and begins to massage the aches from your tense shoulders.

His hands feel like heaven, kneading each knot with practiced ease and delicate precision, wrists and fingers working their magic. He somehow knows the tensest spots and exactly how much pressure it takes to soothe them. Distantly, you wonder how much of his knowledge is firsthand.

You can't stop yourself from melting under his touch, practically purring as his hands make their way from your now-loose shoulder muscles up the expanse of your neck, then down the delicate tendons of your lower back. He's diligent, intent on not missing a single spot.

Once he's satisfied with his work, he begins to plant soothing kisses over the remains of where each knot once was.

You sit up and pop your joints with your stretch, entirely boneless and unable to hold back a relieved groan.

"You know," he starts, his tone as warm and delicate as the kisses he continues to plant on your shoulder. "Believe me, I know how much life can get you, out there. But... You don't have to do anything when you're with me. You got it? You don't have to prove anything to me."

You know trust is a precious commodity, one Keigo has by all accounts earned. He has done nothing but show you the truth lacing each word; but the message still meets a wall when it tries to make its way past your barriers.

He can hear your doubts, can see the "but" resting on the tip of your tongue and threatening to spill. So instead, he silences it with a kiss before you even have the chance to start.

"I can hear you thinking. No buts."

"Kei', I... I don't know if I–"

"Baby, please," he whispers. His hands run up your arms, squeezing gently before finding their resting place on your shoulders. "Gotta believe me, okay? Promise?"

How can you say no? How can you deny those pretty, lovesick eyes?

"Promise," you answer, planting your thanks in the form of a kiss on his lips.

Before he can lean in to greedily seek another, you place a single finger between you. He blinks.

under a cut cause I'm a rambler ✨

every comic of mine starts with a script first! it's not anything too fancy, mostly just the dialogue jotted down in a very inconsistent fashion, like so

and once the fun of writing some sassy stolitz banter is over, next comes the most difficult part imo... thumbnailing the layout

the thumbnail is just a messy ass sketch of basic bitch shapes to work out where I think everything is gonna fit. it's probably not very legible to anyone but me. I mean just look at this shit

once I got that down, I scale it up to fit the page and lower the opacity. then before I do any proper sketching, I get that text in there. oooooh yeah! do those text and speech bubbles and panel borders first babes, TRUST ME. that shit's a time saver

then you can sketch AROUND the speech bubbles, instead of having to sketch -> add text -> oh shit the text is bigger than I thought, now I have to alter the sketch -> rinse repeat on multiple panels and cry

so after that, I'll do a first pass sketch but like yikes I got so damn lazy with one?? wow. it's not always like this I promise

here's an example of another first pass sketch as PROOF, sometimes there's more detail

aaaaanyway if I'm in a real rush, I'll skip to inking, but USUALLY I like to do a cleaner second sketch first like so. it makes inking waaaaaay easier

so yeah after THAT comes the inking. it's usually all in black (I color the lines at the very end, typically) but I did not feel like undoing all my hard work for this screenshot sowwy

after it's all nice and inked, I color using the typical comic book flatting method. flatting is easily the most boring part, but alas, it must be done

I use the fill bucket tool in Clip Studio Paint all on the same layer and yeah the colors look wonky as shit right? that's cause it doesn't matter what colors you use, you just have to be able to grab the areas you want later using the magic wand tool (so you can see all the backgrounds on each panel are a different color to keep them separated, for example)

and that's what I do! after the flats are done, I create a new layer and use the magic wand tool to select and color each area properly. minimal shading, because I hate rendering most of all, so I keep the colors pretty flat! I color in some lines after that and call it good!

I hope this was insightful in some way and made sense! I don't know if I'm any good at explaining things, so if you'd like more clarity on anything, feel free to ask and I'll try again! 💖

Today, posting period for the Klaine Back-to-School challenge has started, but I am still stuck on the ending. Am I the only one who, like, tries to daydream fic scenario's first, just to see how it goes? The daydream unfortunately ends at Blaine taking Kurt to meet [REDACTED]. What happens next??? As the banner suggests, I am still finding my feet in this new podcast world. I figuratively threw out my old recordings and I rerecorded everything as a .wav file in an app recommended by @cutestkilla. I am going for the "keep your fuck ups in the recording and edit them out later" approach, since that does sound easier. @thnxforknowingme did offer to help with Audacity if I need it. And I will need it. I spent a long, long time getting these 25 seconds for this post:

Right, getting that little audio snippet was hell because I even had troubles with using the copy and paste options and then I had troubles saving it as a file. It also cut off a small part, cause the audio is supposed to end with "blooper reel or whatever", but that's mainly because I had to edit this... without sound on. Apparently Audacity doesn't like earphones and it just plays from my laptop speakers which is not fun in public, so I had to time it from the full audio and hope for the best. Well, it almost worked.

This will be a learning curve, or whatever it's called. But I said it before: I like how welcoming @caught-on-tape-fest is, because it is open to people with all sorts of experiences with podfics. I mean, I have none. Same with editing. I can make it as easy and comfortable as I want it to be. I see people in the Podfic thread talk about things that mean nothing to me, but I don't feel any pressure to do any editing magic. Well, I do want to add a kitten meowing to one of the files, but all the stuff about isolating sound or reverbing stuff or whatever (idek if I use the right terms here) or editing out certain sounds.... that is next level for me now, but yeah, it's great that I don't feel any pressure to do those things and that's an easy way to get into the podficcing world.

Although, while editing the file to get that snippet, I found out that there is a weird disruptive background noise in the later half of the file and I do not know what it is or how it got there, because my other files don't have it and I recorded the three fics in one go. Weird. Might redo it, if I don't figure out how to fix it. It was around 500 words, after all.
