Repost @lifeordeathbasically - since our audience and this account has grown a lot since two years ago (👏🙌) when we were educating and sharing facts about borderline personality disorder every few days, we thought we’d get back to that a bit! . BPD FACT #2: a common behavior among people with bpd is frantic efforts to avoid real or perceived abandonment. many people with borderline struggle with insecure attachment, meaning that they are extremely sensitive to changes in other people’s behavior and are more likely to form dependent relationships. when there is a perceived change in behavior or slight in one of those relationships (even something as small as rescheduled plans or an unanswered text), they may find it difficult to regulate their emotional reaction to the situation, jumping instantly to a high stress or panic response. this can cause behavior such as frantic texting or calling, threats of suicide, or acts of self-destruction or self-harm. . this characteristic of bpd is why many people believe that everyone with borderline personality disorder is a master at manipulation and lying for attention. however, these behaviors and efforts to avoid abandonment are very rarely a conscious or premeditated response, but rather a reaction to the overwhelm of feeling that can come from being triggered by one of these situations. the acting out or begging for forgiveness is not a tactic of cold emotional manipulation, but something that feels like a vital and immediate way to get relief from those feelings of panic and unworthiness. . watch @lifeordeathbasically on @vimeo (link in bio), our website (www.lifeordeathbasically.com), and on @theonchannel. . #lifeordeathbasically #anewkindoflovestory . #womenbehindthelens #femalefilmmakerfriday #womenwriters #womenwritersofinstagram #femalescreenwriters #internationalwomensday #femaledp #womencinematographers #director #directorofphotography #castingdirector #casting #behindthescenes #sneakpeek #trailer #seasonone #newwebseries #setlife🎥 #originalart #originalmusic #premiere https://www.instagram.com/p/BnVe929ARD9/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=9zg3dh1cof6x

PhotograpHER Jessica R
We got the pleasure of interviewing the talented Jessica Robles from Los Angeles California! Please be sure to check out her work and tell her we sent ya!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
-Please introduce yourself for those whom may not know you
Hello my name is Jessica Robles.  I’m a professional photographer from Los Angeles, California.
-When did you fall in love with the art of photography?
When I was 15.  My HS had a darkroom and from then on I spent the majority of my time in the photo lab <3
I was obsessed and took all the classes my HS offered, then I went off to college and was blessed with another darkroom, and a great art department that offered tons of film classes.
 -What inspires you to create?
Life, God, my family, and my beautiful friends.
-What was your very first camera?
The very first camera I bought was a Discovery S1050 Zoom Date Fijifilm Camera.
-What women in the industry do you admire? And why?
I love Rachel Lee who I met on Facebook.  She’s a beautiful photographer who photographs authenticity.  Her photographs are so natural and raw.  Her images are breathtaking. The models in her images always look so dreamy, happy and comfortable in front of her lense.  I also think Courtyney Summerfrost is a bada$$ babe! She’s also a photographer.  She’s always offering advice and is there to answer any tough questions about the industry.  Britt Kaye is one of my favorite MUA’s.  She’s insanely talented and always makes my dreams come true whenever we work together!
-Tell us about your very first shoot.
My first shoot was on my Discovery Fijifilm Camera and I shot on a roll of TRI X 400 35mm Film.  I went down to the Los Angeles River and photographed some graffiti.  I still remember exactly what it looks like, and it probably helps because I still have the photograph!
-Do you feel as if female photographers have a strong community?
I didn’t until recently.  I’ve made all new friends and I can say I feel very blessed.
-At what point did you know that this was one of your passions?
When I was 15 and it became pretty obvious that this was my passion because that was all I ever wanted to do at school.  I decided then that it was going to be my career.  I just had no idea at the time how hard it would be, but I’m happy, even when there’s bumps in the road. That’s life and you’ll only grow from your experiences!
-What is your creative process before photoshoots/editing?
If I’m shooting on film then there’s no editing, but if I’m shooting digital I like to keep it on the natural side. I don’t do any body modifications.
-How important is it to you being a female photographer? What significance does it have to you?
IT’S VERY IMPORTANT! I’m here to represent the un-represented. I like to capture diversity and beauty which comes in all shapes and sizes.
 - If you could have any photographer mentor you who would it be and why?
Ray Metzer.  He’s my favorite photographer.  His photographs were based on their location and technique. He always pushed the limits and gave normal environments abstract views.
-How important is social media to your photography career?
It’s vital. It’s helped me grow by connecting me to people, not just in LA but all around the world. It’s also a great platform to showcase and share my work.
-What is one of the biggest barriers you’ve had during your photography career?
Finances.
 - What styles of photography inspire the work you create today?
The past truly inspires me. Especially the 50’s through 80’s! I’m in love with the classic cars and beautiful wardrobes!
-When you saw our page “Photograp.HER” What were your first thoughts? And what does “Photograp.HER” mean to you personally as a female artist/photographer?
I LOVE the HER part! I was like “YEAH” in my head! There definitely needs to be more ladies lifting each other up instead of dragging  each other down!
-Have you every felt discriminated against for certain gigs as a photographer because you were a woman?
Now that I started working for myself NO! But before YES at times!
-Do you feel as if as a woman in a male dominated industry you have to work 10x harder to been seen as a photographer?
Not really. I work with so many people all the time I’m always networking and growing.
 -What makes you feel empowered?
Working for myself.  It’s an amazing feeling that I’ve worked really hard for.
-What is some advice you’d give to anyone who may feel discouraged?
Don’t EVER EVER EVER give up! Yes I’m yelling at you <3 Don’t ever give up! I literally have been told to my face to give up and this was not going to be my future. I’m stubborn and their doubt in me inspired me! Do not give up on your dreams.  The struggle and the bumps in the road are worth it ladies!
-What ‘s some sound advice you’d give to a young girl want to pick up a camera and pursue photography?
Take a class, you’ll also meet people with the same interest and you’ll have a blast!
-What is your mantra you live by?
Be nice to others, not just because you want them to be nice back but because that’s your character.
-Where can we find links to your work?

Repost @lifeordeathbasically - since our audience and this account has grown a lot since two years ago (👏🙌) when we were educating and sharing facts about borderline personality disorder every few days, we thought we’d get back to that a bit! . obviously bpd is central to this story (it’s what the protagonist, maggie, copes with, and what inspired writer/creator @kimberlyrolfs to write this series), and it continues to be a really deeply misunderstood disorder! . so we’ll be sharing some “bpd facts” again along with our usual content, and maybe it’ll help you learn something you didn’t know before, or give you some more context for the events of this show we all love!!! . BPD FACT #1: borderline personality disorder is a serious mental illness that centers on the inability to manage emotions effectively. the term “borderline” was used in the initial research on the disorder in 1938, to define a mind that existed “on the borderline between neurosis and psychosis.” it was originally thought of as a form of schizophrenia, but has thinking has evolved to consider BPD a personality disorder. the term “borderline personality disorder” is often thought of as an inadequate descriptor of symptoms - a more accurate name may be “emotional dysregulation disorder.” . watch @lifeordeathbasically on @vimeo (link in bio), our website (www.lifeordeathbasically.com), and on @theonchannel. . #lifeordeathbasically #anewkindoflovestory . #womenbehindthelens #femalefilmmakerfriday #womenwriters #womenwritersofinstagram #femalescreenwriters #internationalwomensday #femaledp #womencinematographers #director #directorofphotography #castingdirector #casting #behindthescenes #sneakpeek #trailer #seasonone #newwebseries #setlife🎥 #originalart #originalmusic #premiere https://www.instagram.com/p/BnVe0W8AlMA/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=nxyhvrprvrt5
