I was thinkig about how in the httyd books the woman are discribed as hairy and while yes, I know it is played as a joke, strong manly hairy viking woman, but wouldn’t it be true. I mean woman in the early middle ages didn’t really have razors. I’m sure that where there’s a will there’s a way and if you tried hard enough you could shave your legs, but who is actually going through all that effort just to get some shiny legs. There is quilting to be done and farm animals to be fed. It just wouldn’t be an effective use of a girls time.
#Women with body hair#I am surprised I didn’t connect the dots earlier#I guess I’m just dumb#Nothing new#httyd books#realisationish#Vikings

Still thinking about how even on a lesbian tv show, none of the women seemed to have any body hair at all... seriously?!?
It seemed so unrealistic to me. Unless I'm the weirdo here.
#it was an adult show so there were sex scenes and no body hair any where on ANYONE#very weird now that I remember it#I finished watching Lip Service last night- I'm specifically talking about Lip service! which is Scottish L word basically#I thought- that maybe we wouldn't be following a patriarchal beauty standard in a LESBIAN show but they did#also wtf was that non-ending! they cancelled the show in 2013 ;-; so no conclusion for poor Tess (she ended up being my favorite)#anyway I'll be sure to include the fact that the women in my story have body hair (I mean it's also like 1880 so they would any way)#this bothered me in a way that it's still in my head like a day later...#I have been of this mind for a while even before I realized I was a lesbian- adult women should be allowed to have body hair...#I mean everyone does naturally...it shouldn't be an issue really#body hair#women with body hair#lip service#2000s tv#lesbian#wlw#am I weird for thinking like this or...?#like I'm pretty sure the show was written and directed by women but still#mychatter

“Forcemasc doesn’t work because masculinity isn’t considered degrading” hello???? Yeah maybe not on cis men. But growing up as a "girl" I was made very aware how masculinity for a woman was considered disgusting and humiliating.
Growing up, my performance of femininity determined my worth. I was valuable to others because I was feminine, and if I did anything unladylike or was caught with what people considered “masculine” traits I was shamed for it. Do you remember the stereotype of the “ugly feminazi”? How they would be portrayed as loud and aggressive, with short hair, large unkempt eyebrows, hairy legs and armpits, sometimes even facial hair, and other features considered "masculine" (broad shoulders, big jaw/chin, large nose, etc.), all to make them seem deeply unfuckable to a mostly male audience. And as we should well know by now, under patriarchy a woman's worth is measured by their fuckability. This is what I grew up being exposed to, what I was socially told not to be unless I wanted to be treated as subhuman.
#there is a lot of overlap I notice between caricatures of trans women and those of (perceived) cis women they're trying to dehumanize#e.g. adding lots of body hair. because in fact. traits perceived as genuinely masculine on women are not valued in any capacity.#transandrophobia#transmasc#transmasc experiences#trans issues#misogyny#mine

we really need to stop associating facial and body hair with men. it's just hair. someone having a beard or body hair does not instantly make them a man. women, intersex, perisex, trans and cis all can naturally grow beards and body hair. men, intersex, perisex, trans and cis can all never grow facial or body hair, ever.
if a woman has a beard for whatever reason, it doesn't invalidate their womanhood or make them partially or wholly a man. if a man can't grow facial hair or refuses to, this doesn't make them any less of a man. trans and intersex women are not obligated to shave their faces constantly in order to be seen as women. trans and intersex men are not obligated to try to grow or make it look like they grow facial hair in order to be seen as men people deserve bodily autonomy when it comes to hair, especially if it just literally grows there against your will.

every time a man assumes I'm a tradwife type because of how I dress, I just want to be like "at any given time it's been an average of three weeks since I last shaved my armpits. sometimes longer"
#personal#historybounding#body hair#hey it's historically accurate! because weirdly enough sleeveless evening gowns DO predate widespread armpit hair removal#for western women#or short sleeves that could ride up and expose the hair#the Victorians just...don't seem to have cared really? I've yet to find an actual objection to armpit hair on women#as for legs I gave up on those years ago#the amount I care about my body hair is nil#I care about my head hair and my skincare and my clothes#body hair is just like. oh. it's there. whatever#it was good enough for my style icons. I'm an adult woman so there's going to be body hair. what do you want from me.

why are people so abnormal about female body hair…. i’m aware body hair isn’t the most pressing feminist issue at the moment but the amount of times i will see a video of a women online and go to the comments, just to see everyone telling her she’s gross or to shave? most of the time i don’t even notice she has body hair and 99% of the time it’s completely irrelevant to the topic of the video 🙄 only wanting a woman who is completely hairless is weirdo behaviour idc
#shaving#feminism#women#discussion#this is such a lukewarm take but just needed to rant a little#based on an ig reel i saw recently#the woman had the tiniest bit of pit hair and everyone in the comments was losing it#it wasn’t even a focal point of the video#everyone be normal about female body hair challenge GO#it’ll be the same men who preach about wanting a natural#i don’t want body hair to be considered sexy just normal#edit: i meant to put natural woman in the second to last tag before this one

I think it's incredibly important to remind folks on testosterone or folks who want to reverse patterned baldness about their options, but man, does it sometimes suck wondering how much of our insecurities about our hair stem from backwards beliefs that to strive towards beauty is not only preferable but "makes you good."
As someone with a rather masculinized body pre-medical transition, patterned baldness has always seemed neutral. Hair is incredibly important (hell, much of my own energy is spent on my hair because I like it), but the pressure to have hair, to have hair the "right way" is something that I absolutely loathe.
I'm not here to judge people who don't want patterned hair loss or baldness, I'm here to say that those traits will never make you lesser. Not only is it neutral, but it is also just as worthy and beautiful.
#trans#transgender#lgbt#lgbtq#ftm#mtf#nonbinary#this especially goes for folks who may be transfem or trans women experiencing patterned hair loss/baldness#i love you and think you are gorgeous<3#i mentioned trans folks going on t because that's a lot of my own experience#i already had a somewhat masc hairline before t and now it's just settling in...#...i found that i'm fortunate in that way for having an already masculine body and i think that's why my changes are more...#...like unpacking your house rather than moving to a new home if that makes sense#but i find that the beauty culture around hair adds even more unnecessary stress for those who want or value their hair#i am beauty culture's number one hater
