G1 Climax 27 Day 2 Predictions

The second day of the G1 starts in under twelve hours. Here are my thoughts on who will win each of the tournament matches.

Satoshi Kojima vs Juice Robinson -The G1 is about making a strong impression on the first night. One day one we saw Sabre pull off a win against Tanahashi. Juice should also be someone to make a strong impression in his first match. He won't be booked so strong as Sabre right now but Kojima isn't Tanahashi right now either. I'm betting on Juice to pull this one off as a surprise to the crowd. Prediction: Juice Robinson

Michael Elgin vs Tama Tonga -After Tama's explosive pipebomb at the press conference, it wouldn't surprise me if he were to win this one. Big Mike does seem to be a notch above Tama in the pecking order (former IC champion versu former Tag Champion) so on paper a Tama wn would be an "upset". Since I'm predicting an upset the match before, I'll go with the safe bet and say Big Mike wins this one. Prediction: Michael Elgin

Kazuchika Okada vs Toru Yano -At first glace this is an easy pick but is it really? Whoever beats Okada receives a chance at his title down the road. Except if you're a CHAOS member. Last year Ishii pinned Okada in G1 and never asked for his chance. Yano is also CHAOS so does a sneaky win by him mean much of anything? It doesn't. He can get a good laugh out of the crowd by low-blowing and beating the champion, no harm, no foul. That said, I'll go with my gut and say Okada wins. Prediction: Kazuchika Okada

EVIL vs SANADA -Both these guys are just waiting for a spot to open. I'd guess one or both will beat Suzuki and get chances as the NEVER title. One may beat Omega and challenge him. Who will win this match though? EVIL has more singles experience in New Japan. Last year he beat Shibata for the NEVER title. SANADA seems to be the breakout star but other than a non-title match against Okada and tournament matches, he hasn't had the singles run EVIL has. I'll play this one safe and pick the guy who New Japan has put a singles belt on before. Prediction: EVIL

Kenny Omega vs Minoru Suzuki -What an interesting match this one will be. This has all the possibly intrigue that a professional wrestling match can have. First, how will the match look? Both men are completely different in their styles. Next you have SZKG versus BC, will shenanigans happen both sides? Who will win? Will they challenge for the other's title? It's all very, very interesting. Personally, I'm picking Suzuki to win the block, which logically means he'll probably lose the first match and have a comeback. I'm going against my logic here. Day one, the fans got what they want. For day two, they won't. Prediction: Minoru Suzuki

WATCH OUT FOR DIRTY BUSINESSMEN - If there are corrupt public officers in Barbados, they are being facilitated by dirty private sector businessmen and women who are prepared to bribe them for favours. That caution has come from Jamaica’s former contractor general Greg Christie, the anti-corruption czar who held the position between 2005 to 2012. Addressing the topic, The Role, Benefits and Deficits of the Jamaica Contractor General Construct – The Governance Perspective today during the Barbados Stock Exchange’s annual Corporate Governance and Accountability conference at the Hilton Barbados Resort, Christie was emphatic that corruption was not a public sector problem alone. According to the attorney, “grand corruption in public procurement, in any country, cannot take place without the direct complicity of actors in the private sector��. He therefore suggested that regional private sectors “must begin to effectively co-own the problem of public sector corruption, and, in particular, the bribery of public officials, and view it as a serious corporate governance deficit”. And in an ominous warning, the Jamaican told the room filled with company executives and corporate attorneys, that left unchecked, corruption “leads to human rights violations, steals political elections, distorts financial markets, reduces investor confidence, and increases the price of goods and services”. Moreover, he said it “undermines or destroys confidence in critical public institutions, and enables organised crime, terrorism and other threats to human security to flourish”. Christie, regarded as an aggressive regulator in Jamaica who investigated several high-profile entities suspected of bribes and underhanded deals in the procurement of Government contracts, insisted it took two hands to clap when it came to corruption. In this connection, he called for tough laws to hold the entire private sector to the same standards expected of those in the state apparatus. (BT)

ON WATCH - Although Barbados has not been hit by any major hurricanes so far this Altantic season, the head of this country’s private sector today complained that the country was effectively on pause, with the Freundel Stuart administration seemingly on “hurricane watch”. Chairman of the Barbados Private Sector Association (BPSA) Charles Herbert levelled the charge while addressing the umbrella Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados’ (CTUSAB) Midterm Delegates’ Conference at Courtyard by Marriott. He explained that it had been two months since the island’s major trade unions and over 20,000 of their constituent members joined with the BPSA in staging “the largest protest ever seen in Barbados” with a view to having meaningful economic dialogue with Government on averting a possible national financial crisis. The demand came in the face of Government’s introduction of a $542 million tax package that was aimed at closing a $537 million fiscal deficit. However, the Stuart administration has been under pressure from opposition parties, trade unions, the business community as well as ordinary residents to roll back an increase in the National Social Responsibility Levy (NSRL), which moved from two per cent to ten per cent on July 1. But while lamenting that no firm action had been taken since then, Herbert today warned that major disaster was indeed imminent, but not of the form that Barbadians were expecting. (BT)

BARBADOS CANNOT AFFORD TO BE IN DOMINICA’S POSITION, WARNS ECONOMIST - The Barbados economy simply could not take a major blow right now. This warning from Canada-based Barbadian economist Carlos Forte, who further cautions that the island is dangerously perched just one step away from credit default. Dominica has become the latest territory in the region to feel the fury of a major storm after Maria tore into the island at category 5 strength on Monday night, resulting in millions of dollars in damage, which officials say has set back its development by decades. With the Atlantic Hurricane Season not yet over and this island already saddled with a very high debt, Forte suggested that Barbadians should be praying that they do not come face to face with a major storm. Just yesterday Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler suggested that Barbados was being “punished” by some international agencies, as it no longer qualified for assistance for disaster relief at very low rates because it was considered a middle-income country. And zeroing in on the country’s massive debt, which currently stands at more than 140 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP), Forte, who is a former Central Bank of Barbados economist, said “the truth is that all of the stack of debt that the Government currently holds, particularly domestic debt, should be on the table for refinancing”. In this context, the senior economist at Ontario Ministry of Finance supported calls made by other noted economists, including former Prime Minister Owen Arthur and recently fired Central Bank Governor Dr DeLisle Worrell for Government to seek help from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). However, with the country also faced with a high fiscal deficit of about six per cent of GDP, Forte called for a reduction in Government subsidies and transfers to statutory corporations, as well as pension reform and for Government to revisit the controversial issue of privatization. He also warned that the $542 million austerity package announced by Sinckler in his May Budget would have the effect of slowing down economic growth and that there was currently too much red tape and uncertainty surrounding domestic economic policy. PM SKERRIT URGES UNITY, COURAGE AS DOMINICA SEEKS TO REBUILD - Dominica is ready to rebuild. This is the assurance coming from Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit following the passage of Category 5 Hurricane Maria. The Prime Minister delivered this message on Wednesday night to residents of the stricken country via the only means of communication left, the state owned Radio DBS. “People are in high spirits. Everyone has sufferered in one way or the other, but people are prepared to rebuild, people are prepared to play their part,” Skerrit said. He urged Dominicans to be brave, bold, assertive, committed and united as they rebuild the country. The task ahead is no small order either as the Prime Minister revealed a devastating status report. He said 100 per cent of the country's agriculture sector was destroyed while the tourism sector had also taken a serious hit with many hotels badly damaged. Additionally, Skerrit said schools and the Kalinago territory sustained heavy damage as well. Following a meeting of emergency services, Skerrit addressed the media today from Antigua, via ABS TV. (WN)

JEREMY STEPHEN GRATEFUL TO BE ALIVE AFTER HURRICANE MARIA - Barbadian Jeremy Stephen is thanking his lucky stars to still be alive in Dominica after Monday night’s passing of Hurricane Maria. Now he’s looking for a way back home. Stephen, a former president of the Barbados Economic Society, was in the Nature Isle to deliver a lecture last Friday. After fulfilling his commitment came the bad news that LIAT had cancelled all flights into Dominica as the country braced for the storm. Stephen was surprisingly upbeat, but told a startling story of how he rode out the hurricane season’s second largest storm, noting that the speed with which it escalated "caught a lot of Dominicans by surprise." He added that it was just after 9 p.m., the winds really started to pick up with great ferocity. “It was like a war zone. I had to evacuate my room, which was totally flooded out. I was on the second floor so I didn’t see when the roof blew off, but I could feel the pressure of the water coming down,” Stephen added.  The economist said they had to leave the hotel for safety, walking through flying debris as they sought refuge in a VIP room. “But the roof there also collapsed so we had to seek shelter on the bottom floor and ride the storm out.” (WN)

HOUSING ‘WIPEOUT’ - A leading engineer in Barbados believes that if a major hurricane were to strike, the majority of timber houses and roofs on the island would be blown away. President of the Barbados Association of Professional Engineers (BAPE), Grenville Phillips II, has estimated that a Category 5 hurricane would completely destroy over 75 per cent of wooden houses and 60 per cent of all roofs. According to him, those figures might very well be even higher as those were “low estimates”. His comments have come following the island’s lucky escape from Category 5 hurricanes Irma and Maria.  (WN)

ICE ISSUE GIVING FISHERFOLK THE CHILLS - A broken ice machine and “chiller” at the Berinda Cox Fish Market in Oistins are frustrating fisherfolk. According to them, the ice machine stopped working some time last week, forcing them to either journey to the Bridgetown Fisheries Complex to purchase ice or buy it from the nearby Wolverine Ice Ltd, which they complained was much more expensive. To make matters worse, the “chiller”, which they use to store their fish, has also malfunctioned. As a result, they have had to move their fish to either their “boxes” or to the blast freezer, which they say would freeze the fish, making it difficult to clean and cut. When a team from the WEEKEND NATION visited the fish market yesterday, some fisherfolk were removing fish from the “chiller”, as they said it was “getting soft”.  (WN)

SENIOR COP UNDER PROBE - A senior police officer is reportedly under investigation by his colleagues. WEEKEND NATION investigations have revealed that the veteran lawman was in custody from Wednesday night, and was being questioned in connection with the discovery of guns and ammunition. Reports indicate that a search warrant was executed at the home of the cop in question, who had been under investigation for some time. When contacted, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Erwin Boyce declined to comment on the allegation, telling the WEEKEND NATION he was in a meeting and could not comment. “I am in a meeting right now, so I cannot respond,” he said. When asked to confirm if the report was true, Boyce responded, “I am in a meeting. I cannot comment at this time.” Efforts to reach Acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith proved unsuccessful up to press time. (WN)

UPDATE-ELDERLY MAN STRUCK AND KILLED BY MINIBUS - Police have revealed the identity of the victim of Wednesday night’s road fatality, which occurred along St Martins Road, St Philip, at its junction with Harlington Road around 10:20 p.m. He is 68-year-old Wilton McAndrew of Suttle Street, St Michael, and formerly of St Martins, St Philip. Brathwaite was reportedly attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a minibus driven by 43-year-old Shawn of McClean Road, Silver Sands, Christ Church. The victim was rushed to the state-run Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance where he later succumbed to his injuries. As investigations continue into the matter, police are asking anyone who witnessed this accident to contact the District ‘C’ Police Station at telephone 416-8200, or 416-8201. Brathwaite’s death brings to 19 the total number of lives lost on the island’s roads so far this year, compared to ten for all of last year. (WN)

COZIER APOLOGIZES FOR HAVING ‘STRESS RELIEVER’ – A St Michael teen who admitted to having “a little exotic weed” in his possession will have to complete 80 hours of community service if he wants to keep his criminal record clean. Romario Rohand Cozier of Waterhall Land, Eagle Hall was in the Black Rock area yesterday when police stopped him. Before a search could be conducted, he pulled out a small knife and told lawmen it was all he had in his possession. However, when searched, he was found to have 14 wrappings of vegetable matter, suspected to be cannabis. Today, attorney-at-law Shadia Simpson appealed for leniency on behalf of her client telling Magistrate Douglas Frederick the offence stemmed from a stressful situation. Speaking on his own behalf, Cozier said he was introduced to the illicit drug three weeks ago by a friend who said “it could get [rid of] problems . . . but it put me in real problems”. The secondary school dropout said he aspired to become a jockey and would not be making the same mistake again. (BT)

MAN ACCUSED OF THREATENING A PREGNANT WOMAN - A 34-year-old man, who is alleged to have issued threatening words to a pregnant woman, has been warned to stay far away from her. Mormon Mormoninhah Scantlebury of Pounders Gap, Westbury Road, St Michael  allegedly told Natasha Bascombe-Bootman on September 20, “I gine down town and come back and juck [something] in your belly” which caused her to believe that unlawful violence would be used against her. However, the accused man, who appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court, pleaded not guilty of the offence. Scantlebury, who was also warned to stay away from Bascombe-Bootman’s workplace was released on $1,500 bail. He returns to court on February 1, 2018. (BT)

CLEANER ADMITS TO STEALING CELLULAR PHONE - A 25-year-old cleaner, who admitted to stealing a cellular phone from his workplace, has been ordered to complete 140 hours of community service. Dario Ruel Jaron Jackman of Kendal Hill, Christ Church pleaded guilty when he appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick to taking the $600 phone belonging to Shaun Hazell from an office on September 12. Ask why he committed the offence, Jackman told the magistrate that he wanted to write down what he wanted to say, but no one would give him a pen. After his request was facilitated by the magistrate, Jackman read aloud a two-line statement which said: “I am guilty and I am also wrong for stealing Shaun Hazell’s phone on the 12th of September and I am sorry about that.” Asked why he chose to write down the words instead of uttering them, Jackman did not reply. However, he told Frederick he had made “a mistake” when he took the phone. If Jackman is able to perform his community service successfully, no conviction will be recorded against him. He returns to court on December 8.  (BT)

STOLEN TILES - A 50-year-old watchman, who is accused of wounding another man, is expected to know his fate next week. Huey Peter Sylvanus Prime of Ashbury, St George allegedly committed the offence against Jarius Bynoe on September 11. The two had trading words on that day, with Bynoe subsequently being hit in the head and about the body with the bucket. Reading from a medical report, Sergeant Martin Rock said Bynoe suffered soft tissue injuries and abrasions to the scalp, chest and forearm. In his own defence, Prime told Magistrate Douglas Frederick that the Bynoe had sold him 20 tiles for $10, which he later discovered were stolen. However, after Prime demanded his money back in return for the tiles, Bynoe allegedly “stole” the tiles from him, without returning the money. “I told him to give me my money but he told me that I got he aunt, so he don’t owe me,” said Prime, who admitted to being set off by Bynoe’s response. However, the magistrate told Prime that the cost of the tiles should have raised an immediate red flag for him. “You should have been more circumspect,” Frederick said before adjourning the case until next week Friday when Bynoe is expected to give his side of the story. ENGLISH CRICKET FESTIVAL COMING TO BARBADOS NEXT YEAR - Barbados’ cricket and its tourism product are set to receive a simultaneous boost next year. The island will host a festival of English cricket in 2018 with both the North-South Series and the MCC’s Champion County Match against Essex to break new ground in the Caribbean. The North-South Series, which was launched in Dubai and Abu Dhabi earlier this year as part of England’s preparations for hosting the 2019 World Cup, will feature two matches at Bridgetown’s famous Kensington Oval on March 18 and 21, followed by a third at the Three Ws Oval on March 23. Then attention will return to the Kensington Oval for the first-class, four-day fixture between an MCC XI and Essex, the 2017 County Champions, from March 27 to 30 – which will be a day-night fixture played with pink Dukes balls. President of the Barbados Cricket Association, Conde Riley, told Barbados TODAY this evening that the initiative would provide a timely boost for tourism and cricket in the country. (BT)

RAIN WRECKS TRENT BRIDGE ODI -  Persistent rain allowed just 14 deliveries before forcing the abandonment of the second One-Day International between England and West Indies at Trent Bridge here Thursday. Sent in, the hosts had reached 21 without loss when the rains arrived after just 15 minutes of play to drive players from the field. The weather abated enough for a scheduled 1:15 p.m. (8:15 a.m. Eastern Caribbean time) restart but quickly returned to squash any further hopes of play in the encounter. Yup! In fact, it's highly encouraged. I don’t think I'll have to cut any submitted characters, but if I do, a character having more submissions makes it less likely to be cut. Also, you can add additional propaganda for ongoing tournaments pretty much any time.

Fu Shen from Golden Terrace/Golden Stage

Submission 1: Fu Shen's leg is broken in battle. He has to use a brace and a wheelchair while he recovers.

Submission 2: 

Crippled legs/wheelchair bound for most of the novel  propaganda: The prologue of the novel is him basically suffering an assassination attempt which crippled his legs horribly when a bunch of rocks fall on him. Despite being wheelchair bound for most of the novel (he later gets these like leg exoskeleton support things but he can't wear them for more than a few hours or something and still has to use the wheelchair), he's still depicted as being just as badass and respected. His men still hold him in high regard, and he still goes around investigating shit and even once using a crossbow to take someone down. He also uses people underestimating him now that he's crippled to his advantage. His love interest is also incredibly sweet and remodels his whole estate to be wheelchair accessible right before he moves in after they're married.

Submission: Hyperthymesia... Basically, he can remember almost everything, and while that helps some in the scenarios of the novel, it also has a huge detrimental effect on him, and he needs pills to calm his mind and such. I'm not sure if it really counts as a disability, especially since there are less than a hundred people with this in real life, but I think it should count for this tournament since it's neurodivergence and such. 

Kim Kiryeo from The Hunter of the Other World Who Is Being Misunderstood

Submission: Kiryeo has a badly healed leg injury which makes it difficult for him to walk and impossible to run, lungs damaged by smoking that heavily limit his physical ability, lung cancer that causes him to cough up blood occasionally and a severe depression to the point of memory loss. He couldn't receive treatment for his leg and cancer due to the lack of money and in the end gave up on it and started to smoke to cope.

Submission: Chronic illness. SQQ is poisoned by a fictional poison literally named “without a cure.” In universe his condition is treated much like a chronic illness that requires constant monitoring and maintenance (medication, check-ups and regular qi infusions) in order to keep in check. Even when he adheres to his treatment regime, it still has unpredictable flare-ups that could put him in serious danger if they happen at the wrong time. The flare-ups (which happen randomly and vary in length unless he receives medical aid) completely block his ability to use qi thus making in-universe actions that are normal/habitual for most his peers (such as flying) much more risky for him.

It's also not explicitly said but he's very autistic coded and canonically has a hard time understanding metaphors, communicating with other people/understanding others emotions, and when he's reading about medicine or doing experiments he hyperfixates and doesn't do anything else for the entire day. When he's with others he gets so anxious he ends up putting on a stern face, so people think he's scary when he's internally panicking
