livvvv my rec goddess. i’ve recently developed an insatiable knack for draco doing little muggle things, like being obsessed with soap operas, or learning how to bake, or playing board games, or painting a house (??) etc etc. any recs as such perchance?? my eternal thanks x
Love this ask anon, “Draco in the Muggle world” can be such a fun trope! I tried to include a bit of everything but I feel like driving and cooking are very popular in fic, so there’s probably a lot of it here. I hope you enjoy these!
magic in the making by getawayfox (G, 2k)
I didn’t see Malfoy for a year after the trial. When Gin told me that, according to Pansy, he had opened a little posh bakery in Mayfair, I thought she was joking, so I went to see for myself.

To Make A Way by cavendishbutterfly (E, 5k)
When Harry finds Draco in the back row of the cinema, he doesn't mean to accidentally befriend him. Or fuck him. Or catch feelings. The thing is, Draco only does casual.
How We Throw Our Shadows Down by thistle_verse (T, 14k)
Draco has finally found the perfect, rare piece to complete his collection. The only problem is that the item belongs to Harry Potter, the last wizard on earth Draco wants to ask another favour from.
The Tapestry of Kinship by khalulu (T, 15k)
Harry is at loose ends, Draco is good with needles, and Draco's young daughter wants to see a certain tapestry repaired. The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black will never be the same.
Tuesday Nights by firethesound (E, 15k)
The absolute last place Harry expected to see Malfoy was in a rundown Muggle cinema on a Tuesday night.
Rich Friend by iota (E, 18k)
As far as Harry can tell, Draco Malfoy is still rich as hell. He’s just not a wizard anymore. Featuring: Draco Malfoy trying to make it as a Muggle pop star, Harry Potter as our confused and horny hero, bad driving, good music, and the mysterious magic of falling for someone.
Harry Potter and The Bisexual Awakening by Writcraft (E, 23k)
Harry is perfectly content being single, heterosexual and living in Godric's Hollow with his very clingy rescue dog, Snitch. When Draco Malfoy turns up on Harry's doorstep demanding that Harry teach him how to drive, things quickly become a lot more complicated.
I Bet That You Look Good on the Dancefloor by birdsofshore (E, 28k)
Harry felt lit up from inside as soon as he entered the bar. There were blokes dancing together, their bodies close to one another, not keeping a wary distance as Harry was always careful to do when he was near another man. God, he wanted this – wanted it so much he could taste it, a metallic tang of heat and desire. He suspected nothing would ever be the same again – especially when he saw who else was in the room.
Around You Moves by ignatiustrout (M, 29k)
Harry knew Draco was gay when he invited him to move in. He’s never had a problem with this. So why does he feel so weird about Draco bringing men home all of a sudden?
Faint Indirections by ignatiustrout (T, 30k)
Draco Malfoy is the last person Harry expects to turn up in Boston, Massachussetts. But now he's here, and he won't stop requesting books from the library where Harry works.

After the war, Draco works at a tv repair shop and Harry breaks things.
(Un)wanted by aibidil (E, 36k)
Ginny's pregnant, then she's not and Harry's single. Harry, again with no family, doesn't know what to do with this turn of events, or how to find a new life—post-war, post-Ginny, post-abortion—in which he belongs. He doesn't expect that life to include dancing to the Backstreet Boys with Hermione and Draco Malfoy. A story of finding belonging in the unexpected.

Nights With You by The_Sinking_Ship (E, 58k)
Draco is mortified when moments prior to departing for the most anticipated destination wedding of the year, he is cruelly dumped. But when he learns that Harry Potter has, at long last, split with his horrible boyfriend, Draco is certain his luck has changed. Never a man to squander an opportunity for revenge (and what would probably be a spectacular shag), Draco vows to make Potter his for the weekend. Now all Draco has to do is convince him.
Salt on the Western Wind by Saras_Girl (M, 60k)
When the war isn’t quite as over as it first appears, a guilt-ridden Harry is sent to a mysterious safe-house. Among sandwiches, insomnia, and Mills & Boon, he discovers something quite unexpected.
Modern Love by tackytiger (E, 61k)
Harry Potter, of all people, knows that life isn’t always fair. And no one gets to be happy all of the time. But surely there’s something more—something better—than a rubbish Ministry job, and a lonely old house, and that feeling that everyone out there is doing a better job of living than Harry is.
Running on Air by eleventy7 (T, 75k)
Draco Malfoy has been missing for three years. Harry is assigned the cold case and finds himself slowly falling in love with the memories he collects.

Halloween Fics (2024):
Dia de los Muertos by RavenclawViking - M, WIP - Three pages of notes, three nights, three rituals. Three chances to say goodbye to her parents. That was all she wanted to do. That was all she had left. The one where Hermione goes into the Forbidden Forest to summon spirits and Draco is the only one how notices [WARNINGS: RAPE/NON-CON, TORTURE, DARK FIC]
Murder As A Love Language by stashandtell - E, one-shot - The brutal end of Nott Sr.'s last day gives way to the blissful beginning of Theo's night. [Draco x Hermione x Theo]
So Hot You’re Bringing Me Back To Life by jiexhua - M, 3 chapters - “Draco is dead, with no memories, no identity, no pulse. Ironically, he has an undying hunger for flesh that he tries not to think about by passing time on his broom, listening to records in a gaudy red and gold room he calls home, or reading books to keep his brain from rotting away. And then a girl sets his world on fire.” -Warm Bodies!Dramione for Halloween [WARNINGS: GORE]
D-R-A-C-O by Wheredoesshego - not rated, one-shot - When Pansy, Ginny and Hermione decide to play around with an Ouija board, they let someone in - someone who has been stuck in the afterlife, trying to get back to the object of his obsession. He has been waiting a long time, stuck in purgatory since his untimely death several years before. The Ouija board has let him in, but this dead Death Eater wants to do more than talk.
Eternal by Black_Phoenix22 - M, one-shot - It's Halloween, bitches!!! Draco Malfoy is a vampire and has set his sights on Hermione Granger. On Halloween night he gets his chance to make her Eternal.
Silent Screams and Stolen Kisses by feistyferret - T, 2 chapters - On Halloween night, the ancient corridors of Hogwarts hold more secrets than even Hermione Granger could have anticipated. Drawn into an eerie challenge by Draco Malfoy, she finds herself swept into a maze of shadowy enchantments, lingering glances, and teasing words, their rivalry giving way to an unexpected connection.
Dancing with the Devil by malfoycurse - E, WIP - An all Hallows eve Ball is presented to all students to attend, while most of the 8th years begrudgingly agree to partake without complaint. There are two who harbor similar obstacles: Hermione Granger, the golden girl saint, decides that she will represent in an Angel. It was fitting for her due to her being viewed by all as, "the girl who could doing no wrong". Inside she feels a burning desire to cut lose and enjoy herself...just wanting to be Hermione Granger...one thing she hadn't counted on was catching the eye of someone who she wishes didn't have the same desires. Draco Malfoy, ex Death Eater/reformed member of society, is dressed to the nines in a Devil costume. Reflecting on how the wizarding world saw him, a menace and deserving to be in hell. His longing to be accepted was something buried deep down inside of him. Something that neither him nor a curly haired book worm would care to admit. Sometimes it's better to be reckless.
Trick or Treat! by coldbrewcalico, virgo_puff - G, one-shot - Draco gets roped into trick-or-treating (aka begging for candy like a commoner) and falls into a trap shaped like matching costumes with Harry-freaking-Potter.
I Don't Have a Choice (but i still choose you) by WritingFicariously - M, one-shot - They've been circling each other for two months. An impromptu Muggle game during a Halloween-themed party forces Hermione and Draco to fess up to their feelings. Or maybe it will just make them snog.
Trick and Treat by des_reads7 - E, 2 chapters - Halloween is the one day of the year when the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead is at its thinnest. Hermione tries to take advantage of this and attempts to summon her old fling Fred Weasley from the veil, but ends up summoning someone else instead.
Love is the honey by WritingFicariously - T, one-shot - "Life is the flower for which love is the honey." -Victor Hugo
The Wonder of Wilful Witches by magicalsydney - E, one-shot - On a night of trick-or-treating, Lyra Malfoy reveals her father’s appreciation for a certain curly-haired witch's yabbos. Hermione finds a new found confidence in Lyra’s confession and goes after what she wants– Draco Malfoy.
Something to Live For by dramionelover1997 - M, one-shot - More than a decade after the war, a fun night out with friends takes a turn for the worst. But Draco realises his life is so much better than he could have imagined.
what you want. by ravenflorals - E, one-shot - As the party raged on, further did his temper simmer. He’d watched as everyone danced, donning costumes that made them look both ridiculous and endearing (if anyone heard that last part, don't say it out loud.) His eyes focused on Granger though. Dressed in a white gown that touches her knees, he focuses on the slip of skin she shows every time Weasley ( The back-on with Potter variety ) gives her a dip or spin. A little bit further and Draco could swear he’d see the marks he’d left on her thigh. She’s lightning on her feet and effortless as she goes. He feels like a stalker. Standing in a suit, he’s supposed to be Bond, like James Bond. But at the moment his only mission was getting her out of there. Away from the clawing hands of Adrien who haha! He just noticed dressed came as a fucking Devil. He’d heard the other Slytherin say at least ten pickup lines. ranging from “Aww man people will think we’re a couple.” With a sickening sweet glance. To calling her angelic. ៸៸ —- or the before, during, and after of an eighth year houseparty.
le petit mort by Babierhys - not rated, WIP - in which the unresolved tension between draco malfoy and hermione granger is pulled taut- unbearable and undeniable- till it snaps and they both come crashing down in a mess of kisses and other scandalous things right in the middle of the very first halloween ball at hogwarts. or, basically two idiots who are falling in love and completely unaware of it till they're naked and panting into each other at the astronomy tower.
The Game by Slytherinked - E, one-shot - Hermione might have known she would be taken. She couldn't, however, have predicted who her partner would be. The boy she had once loved, now the man who had left her behind. He swears he won't hurt her, but there are secrets behind his silver eyes, and generations of violence in his blood. It's the fourth year of The Game. Who will win? Who will die? [WARNINGS: CHARACTER DEATH, VIOLENCE]
Come Find Me, Hermione by GG500 - not rated, WIP - “Granger, Granger, Aren’t you a danger? Hurry now, there’s knowledge to bind, Wonder to find, Be vast, fast. Be unrefined. Your next clue’s a tale, If you can keep up with my trail. Come find me, Hermione.” A series of terrorist attacks begin on All Hallows’ Eve. The Auror Office suspects a new Dark Witch or Wizard has risen. Curse-Breaker Draco Malfoy prefers hunting down terrorists to socializing, but finds himself rescuing Hermione Granger from carnivorous pumpkins Halloween night. He'd like to keep out of her entangling hair, but Hermione's murderous penpal is his prime suspect. Despite a thriving career, an impetuous internship, and a double life bringing Time-Turners back to the wizarding world, Hermione finds herself terribly lonely. And, horrifyingly, Draco Malfoy keeps showing up in her flat to steal her "illegal" books out from under her bed—worse yet, saving her life in the process. (Teaser Quote) “Be wicked, be sly, and don’t you dare die.”
Draco Malfoy and his first Weasley Family Dinner by Anonymous - G, one-shot - Guess who’s coming to Halloween dinner at the Weasleys? Draco is! Hermione and Draco bake a special pie for the Weasley Family Dinner. Too bad they’ll never be invited back to dinner again…
Trick and Treat by cleotheo - T, one-shot - When Hermione Granger agrees to attend a Halloween party with her best friend, she has no idea what sort of tricks and treats await her. Light-hearted Dramione One Shot.

How powerful is Albus Dumbledore?
I've written about this before in another post, but I wanted to give it its own space: because people seem to really think this man was the bloody Emperor of Wizards or something. He could do and say anything, pass any law, get the Ministry to kiss the back of his hand... despite us constantly seeing that he can't.
All bad things that happen become his direct responsibility - because he is powerful. right...? He could have stopped things with a flick of his wrist - and he should have known to!!!
The fact he doesn't fix everything when he has ultimate power can only be explained by him being a heartless, loveless, cold and vicious monster - playing silly games with peoples lives for his ego. I won't deny that he is a little like that. He wouldn't deny it either... mopey lil sad boy.
But what power does Albus actually have...? What is politically available to him? What social weight does his name bear? Well... lets go through his titles:
Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore
Headmaster of Hogwarts, Order of Merlin (first class), Supreme Mugwump, Chief Warlock and Grand Sorcerer. ...and is featured on a Chocolate Frog card.
What do all of these mean...? What do they let him do?? (2100 words)
+ Professor
...Just a title for 'teacher' in the Wizarding World. Albus Dumbledore taught DADA and Transfiguration. You can be as academically recognized as Filius Flitwick, as young as Severus Snape (21), lack a full formal education like Rubeus Hagrid... or lack ANY Wizarding education at all, like Firenze the Centaur. The Headmaster can appoint Professors as they see fit - though his/her choices can be overthrown by the Ministry.
+ Headmaster of Hogwarts
Head of the school... sort of... more of a manager, really...
Appointed by the Hogwarts Board of Governors - or the Ministry of Magic directly - the Headmaster is still under their scrutiny.
The castle itself has some will over who should be headmaster too - though small. It will lock someone they deem unworthy out of the headmasters office. (Umbridge)
Wait - who are the Hogwarts Board of Governors? What do they do?
Twelve people who oversee and vote on how Hogwarts runs. Lucius Malfoy was it's chairman for a time.
They have authority over all faculty and have free access to the grounds to inspect it and question staff/students whenever.
They can close the school and/or take action on parent complaints.
They appoint and suspend Headmasters.
So they are the actual heads of the school. The Headmaster can make his/her own choices, but if they displease the Board of Governors the decision can be withdrawn, overthrown - or the Headmaster suspended entirely and replaced.
BUT: the Hogwarts Board of Governors is STILL under the Ministry. Headmasters and teachers can be appointed directly by the Ministry without input from the Board - and even the school closed. It is possible Board-members are appointed by the Ministry - perhaps even as a section of the Ministry.
So the pecking order goes: Ministry -> Hogwarts Board of Governors -> Headmaster.
If the Headmaster displeases the Governors OR the Ministry he can be removed or his decisions overruled. He has to be a good boy. What can a Headmaster do? (before they are removed from their post)
Some control over whether their office door can open. (castle can override their will)
Banishing people from the grounds of the school. (aside from members of the Hogwarts Board of Governors)
Control over disapparation within the school grounds.
Control over the Muggle repellent charm.
Freedom but not ultimate authority to hire and dismiss Professors.
Ability to promote Professors to 'head' positions.
Final say on student punishment and expulsion.
Ability to change how the school is run according to safety requirements (scrutinized by the Board of Governors and/or Ministry)
Seemingly some control over the creation of clubs and classes (that too probably scrutinized by the Board of Governors and/or Ministry)
Some powers that make getting around the grounds easier... Some powers in the case of emergencies... ...and general manager stuff. He is the school ambassador the Ministry and Board bark at.
+ Order of Merlin (first class)
This is a medal. Remus got one too. :) He was awarded it for his defeat of Grindlewald, ending the Global Wizarding War and helping end World War II. It can be taken away if you disgrace yourself enough, so it is simply an object/title of status. He cares about it less than his Chocolate Frog card.
+ Supreme Mugwump (Note: I have not seen fantastic beasts)
'Elected chairman of the International Confederation of Wizards' This sounds big and important. Lets break it down:
Firstly: What is the International Confederation of Wizards? According to the woman it's like a Wizarding equivalent of the UN:
"...a diplomatic and political international organization whose stated purposes are to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, achieve international cooperation, and serve as a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations."
So an organization of Wizards from different places making decisions - like whether Troll's should have rights. How do they make these decisions?
The General Assembly is the main deliberative assembly of the UN. Composed of all UN member states, the assembly meets in regular yearly sessions at the General Assembly Hall, but emergency sessions can also be called. The assembly is led by a president, elected by the member states on a rotating regional basis, and 21 vice-presidents. (The president is the chair and presiding officer of the General Assembly.) When the General Assembly decides on important questions such as those on peace and security, admission of new members and budgetary matters, a two-thirds majority of those present and voting is required. All other questions are decided by a majority vote. Each member has one vote.
So they have some sort of majority voting system, with a chairman - a Supreme Wugwump - presiding over them. Cool. Secondly: A chairman. What is a chairman? Lets ask Wikipedia:
"In some organizations they have the authority to hire staff and make financial decisions. In others they only make recommendations to a board of directors, and or may have no executive powers, in which case they are mainly a spokesperson for the organization."
Since the International Confederation of Wizards is not a business, nor is it under a board of directors - it looks like he is a spokesperson. What does such a person do...?
"...the chairperson presides over meetings. Such duties at meetings include: Calling the meeting to order Determining if a quorum is present Announcing the items on the "order of business", or agenda, as they come up Recognition of members to have the floor Enforcing the rules of the group Putting questions (motions) to a vote, which is the usual way of resolving disagreements following discussion of the issues Adjourning the meeting While presiding, the chairperson should remain impartial and not interrupt a speaker if the speaker has the floor and is following the rules of the group. In committees or small boards, the chairperson votes along with the other members; in assemblies or larger boards, the chairperson should vote only when it can affect the result."
... So: he has the honor of siting at the head of the room: To introduce the topics to be discussed. To demand order when an argument breaks out. To keep chats on-topic. It is an honor, a title of international recognition, but no bite. He might not even be able to vote on most motions. The most he could do is give some speakers more time than other speakers, but if he was caught doing that too much he would be punished, reprimanded - removed.
'Algonquin word mugguomp, meaning "person of importance" or "war leader"'; 'Old English word spelled the same "mugwump", which "is a derogatory word for somebody in charge who affects to be above petty squabbles and factions."'
+ Chief Warlock
...Of the Wizengamot, Britain's high Wizarding court.
'The Chief Warlock was the title given to the wizard that presided over the Wizengamot, overseeing parliamentary affairs and court procedures.'
So another chairman, like a Supreme Mugwump: Introduce each speaker, Keep each speaker on schedule, Keep discussions on topic, Remain impartial when presiding in the chair.
We see him take part in Wizengamot court cases where he is NOT the presiding Chairman, because... that would be mad. He can't defend someone AND impartially preside in the chair.
If he wants to present anything to the Wizengamot - he has to do it normally: have it go through a vote he doesn't preside over. The Minister of Magic presides in such cases. Infact - The Minister of Magic seemed to take over the role of Chief Warlock himself when Dumbledore was stripped of the title.
+ Grand Sorcerer
As far as I can tell this is just a title. Like a knighthood or something. You are a very clever Wizard - so you are named a national treasure of sorts. Other known recipients of the title are Mugwumps or have received an Order of Merlin, First Class.
~~~~~
ALL of these titles are stripped away at the Ministers WHIM. None of them offer any real power over anything that happens in the Wizarding World. They just give him more work and more time in the public eye... and deep knowledge of exactly what is going on politically.
In that sense - I agree with Albus, that his most important acheivement... is the fact he is on a Chocolate Frog Card.
+ Chocolate Frog Card haver
ALBUS DUMBLEDORE CURRENTLY HEADMASTER OF HOGWARTS Considered by many the greatest wizard of modern times, Dumbledore is particularly famous for his defeat of the Dark wizard Grindelwald in 1945, for the discovery of the twelve uses of dragon's blood, and his work on alchemy with his partner, Nicolas Flamel. Professor Dumbledore enjoys chamber music and ten-pin bowling.
Now THAT is a RESUME. Greatest wizard of modern times, Defeated a Dark Lord, Discovered 12 uses of dragons blood, Worked with Nicolas Flamel... And likes chamber music and ten-pin bowling, Just like you~!!!
Every goddamn magical child in the Wizarding World see's this. Their parents have seen it, their grandparents.... He is a household name. A friendly household name.
Teacher Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore
Manages Hogwarts. Brave and very clever. Hosts some meetings. But you've known who he is since you were a kid. You know his friendly face and that twinkle in his eye. You trust him. ~~~~~ There are always layers of people more powerful than him. His words may have a little more sway because of his positive public image, but that is all he has: people like him. He is the popular vote.
I think it is important to keep that in mind when considering why he did or didn't do things that seem obvious. I'm not saying his intentions were always pure, nor that he was always the nicest guy. He often dropped the ball. He has had a long, traumatic life that has shaped him. He isn't some god of the Wizarding World. He has little say in its politics - other than his general opinion.
If he upsets the Board of Governors - which includes Death Eaters - with how he runs the school... he is no longer Headmaster.
If he upsets the Ministry he is not only no longer Headmaster, but no longer anything else either - without any proof or real reason. Just because the Minister says so. This literally happens.
But worst of all, if he upsets the public... he loses everything. The hardest blow the Ministry dealt him was poisoning his image in the eye of the common person. He can't manipulate/sway peoples hearts if he isn't in them anymore.
This makes some of his most confusing decisions make more sense. The most obvious example I can think of is:
--- Why didn't he defend Sirius and demand he had a trial? + Sirius Black had overwhelming evidence against him. Evidence Albus couldn't dispute. Secret Keeper, 50 impartial witnesses, a pile of corpses.... + He had been the cause of the Potters' tragic deaths. Famous name. + After days of peace: suddenly the Longbottoms were tortured by Death Eaters, causing a massive outcry to have every Death Eater dealt with ASAP. Britain was tired of being afraid. + Barty Crouch Sr was a popular figure calling for Death Eaters to be dealt with quickly. + The Minister of Magic at the time was freshly in the seat - and likely eager to get all this good press under her belt.
Look at what he has to fight against there! And based on what...???
"I know everyone in this court, and in Britain at large, is tired of having to tip-toe around Death Eaters. But, although it may make me unpopular to suggest at a time of grief and terror... especially with my previous history of associating with Dark Wizards... may I ask that Sirius Black has a full, proper trial? I have no proof that he is innocent... but I have a good feeling in my gut."
Yeah. I'm sure that would have gone down well.
~~~~~
I think, most importantly, is that Albus isn't meant to be some powerful figure within the narrative.
Part of Harry's arc is learning how the people he looks up to are deeply flawed. He starts out thinking Albus is some wondrous powerful figure. Then as he gets older he see's more and more that he isn't. He is a man with responsibility he doesn't want, but carries anyway. Who makes hurtful mistakes and dwells in his painful memories... who lives thinking far too much about the dead. Like Snape. Like himself.

Fun things I scripted into my Hogwarts dr 🧹✨
We have yearbooks which include a group photo of all the house pets
It's tradition for 7th year dada/gryffindor students to gift Lupin squeaky toys at the end of the year
Part of the muggle studies curriculum is studying Shakespeare and it is tradition for NEWT students to stage the play they are studying
There is a broomstick motorway running through the entirety of the UK
There is an interhouse common room called the Hall of Concurrence (nicknamed Conkers) that has a tuck shop selling crisps, sweets, pasties etc.; a retro television that shows quidditch matches and wizarding tv channels; and lots of game equipment like pool tables, chess sets, board games etc. The tuck shop also does popcorn for weekend film nights and every Monday the folk club do an informal music session anyone can come and listen to.
Each common room has a kitchenette for making hot drinks and fixing a quick breakfast before quidditch practice. All the mugs are magically tailored to each student and there is an informal doling ceremony at the beginning of the year where we find the perfect mug for us
Hogsmeade has a muggle style corner shop with a post office so muggleborns can go buy their favourite childhood brands or send their parents a letter via muggle post
The three broomsticks hosts a pub quiz every other Sunday and there is an informal house tournament throughout the year to see who can accumulate the most points - the winning house gets a trophy and a butterbeer discount for the next academic year
There is a player of the match trophy for every quidditch game and a player of the tournament each year
On Dumbledore's memorial day Hogwarts hosts a ten pin bowling tournament that all the professors are contractually obliged to take part in.
There is a statue of dobby outside the kitchens and his socked feet are gold from being rubbed by students for good luck in their exams and love life
Lee Jordan has a radio sketch show called Lee Jordan's Magic Show that is super popular and lots of students tune in on the common room radios every week
It is tradition to sing Caledonia out the windows of the Hogwarts Express as it leaves platform 9 ¾ (I am so in love with this one I would say it's my most vivid dr memory? I can feel the passion in yelling 'let me tell you that i love you, that I'll think about you all the time' at my parents with a chorus of dewy eyed students it's so vivid in my mind god i need to shift)

Wizarding World Characters
Decided to make an slightly updated list with my characters across the Wizarding World.
This list spans the Harry Potter Books/Movies, the Hogwarts Legacy Game, the Hogwarts Mystery Game, and a little of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions and the Cursed Child! I hope you guys enjoy.
When I say it includes the Cursed Child, I most just mean it's the next generation of Witches and Wizards, not the actual storyline. <3
My version of Hogwarts is a University; all characters are aged up to 18+. For example, all the Hogwarts Legacy 5th years are roughly 21.
~ALL IMAGES USED TO THE COLLAGES/MOOD BOARDS IN THIS POST ARE NOT OWNED BY ME AND WERE FOUND ON PINTEREST~
~THE ONLY PHOTOS OWNED BY ME, ARE IN GAME PHOTOS~
~Hogwarts Legacy Game~
Alice Andromeda Cassowary
She/Her
~Her full name is Alice Andromeda Cassowary. She's named after her Great-Great-Great Grandmother Alice and her Grandmother Andromeda.
~She's in the Hufflepuff house, which she has technically been sorted into twice.
~She was given a journal by Professor Fig to write her feeling out in, after he met her. Inside the journal was a note from Fig that says 'For the things you can't say out loud'.
~She has two younger brothers named George and Killian who are twins.
~Alice actually has a necklace with a Raspberry charm on it. She and her brothers each got a necklace of their favorite fruit as a joke when children, because of their father calling their mother 'Cherry' due to her red hair.
~She's paired with Ominis Gaunt.
~She got the scar across the bridge of her nose from a stray piece of wood from the dragon attack on hers and Fig's carriage to Hogwarts. The Wiggenweld potion closed the wound but left it scarred over.
~Alice is the shortest of these characters, being only 4'10ft/147cm
~Her Patronus is a Saint Bernard. I did this because I thought it'd be funny for a really short Hufflepuff girl to have her Patronus be one of the largest dog breeds.
Karen Heinous
She/Her
~Karen was originally made with an online friend and was based around the specific haircut she wears in-game. We thought it looked like a Karen Haircut.
~Karen's original last name was " 'Murica" as in America, as a nod to a stereotypical American Karen. As a nod to this, her Patronus is an Eagle.
~Karen is distantly related to Headmaster Black through marriage and thinks it makes her super important and above everyone.
~She's in the Slytherin House.
~She has two older sisters, named Amelia and Penelope.
~Karen is 5'4ft/162cm
Marjorie Festus
She/They
~Marjorie was the hardest to design. I originally wanted to give her black hair, but that made her look too much like a female Harry Potter. I then tried ginger/red hair which made her look too much like a Weasley. She also originally had the Professor Garlick braids hair mod, before I decided against it.
~Marjorie is in Gryffindor, but she was almost placed in Ravenclaw.
~She has a pet Ferret named Charlie.
~Marjorie is a muggle-born student.
~She's 5'9ft/174cm
~Marjorie has an older sister named Erika, who has been her caretaker since their parents died. They've struggled since and Marjorie hopes going to Hogwarts and getting a job in the wizarding world can help ease the stress on her Sister.
~Marjorie has a black hairbow that she always wears. It was given to her by her Sister, Erika.
Diaval Knight
They/Them
~Diaval is Nonbinary, however they are mostly in the closet. Especially when it comes to their family.
~Diaval is a half-blood. Their mother is a Witch and their father † is a Muggle.
~Diaval's mother taught them that showing emotion is weak, as a result, Diaval grew to be incredibly emotionless. They don't know/remember how most emotions feel.
~Diaval is in Ravenclaw.
~They are the tallest of the 4, being 6'3ft/190cm
~They love to play Quidditch and Imelda is their closest friend since they often discuss it together. Diaval plays as a Keeper.
~Diaval hates to wear their robe over their uniform, finding it uncomfortable.
~Hogwarts Mystery Years~
Edalyn 'Eda' Dewey
She/Her
~Edalyn is a Hufflepuff
~She is related to Emeri and Alice. She is Emeri's Second cousin and Alice's Great-Granddaughter
~She's paired with Penny Haywood
~Eda owns a pet Niffler named Rowan. Anyone who has played the game knows the meaning behind this.
~Harry Potter Years/Quidditch Champions~
This includes Quidditch Champions since I decided to replace my previous Hufflepuff Character with the Quidditch Captain I made for the game, as I am OBSESSED with her design.
Emeri Swan Cassowary
She/Her
~The Hogwarts Legacy Photo of Emeri was made for a Mothers Day Twitter/X post
~Emeri is a descendant of my Hogwarts Legacy character Alice Cassowary. Alice is her Great-Great-Grandmother. She had a good relationship with her Great-Great-Grandmother and named her first child Alice.
~Emeri was almost a hatstall. The Sorting Hat couldn’t choose between sorting her in Hufflepuff or Slytherin. It finally decided that Slytherin would challenge her best and sorted her into Slytherin.
~She is a half-blood Witch. Her mother, Andromeda, is mostly Pureblooded, and her father, David, is an American Muggle.
~Due to being half-blooded, Draco would often call her 'Half-a-Witch-Swan'
~Draco would also call her 'Weasley' since her hair is red.
~Funny enough, Emeri is paired with Fred Weasley.
~Fred calls Emeri 'Cherry', due to her Cherry red hair.
~ Fred Weasley's fate was changed due to reasons for my Hogwarts Legacy character's story. He didn't die; instead, Percy Weasley died during the Battle of Hogwarts.
Madelyn Kingsleigh
She/Her
~If not Obvious, Madelyn is a Ravenclaw.
~She is also paired with Draco.
~And she is a Muggleborn student.
~She was made on a whim of me wanted a character for CharacterAI to have with Draco, and I thought her being a Muggleborn and Draco realizing he loves her despite her bloodstatus was cute.
Willa Avery
She/They
~Willa is a Hufflepuff
~If anyone saw my previous post for my main HP characters on my Blog @cringefandomtrash, Willa is replacing Wesley.
~Willa is part of the sacred 28. As the Avery's did not canonically have a child, and they're never seen, I figured they'd work. This means she is a Pureblood.
~Since the Avery's were Death Eaters, this does mean they tried forcing Willa into joining, but she fought on the same side as Harry Potter and his friends.
~Willa plays for the Hufflepuff Quidditch Team as a Chaser, and is the Quidditch Team Captain.
~She has a Black Cat named Stardust, or Dust for short.
Osmodius Strickler
He/Him
~Don't have much info on Ozzy, sadly, aside from the following.
~He is a Gryffindor
~He is the descendant of my Hogwarts Legacy Character, Karen Heinous.
~Cursed Child~
Killian Cassowary
He/Him
~Killian has a necklace with a Lemon charm on it. Killian, his twin brother, and their older sister each got a necklace of their favorite fruit as a joke when children, because of their father calling their mother 'Cherry' due to her red hair.
George Cassowary
He/Him
~George has a necklace with a Peach charm on it. George, his twin brother, and their older sister each got a necklace of their favorite fruit as a joke when children, because of their father calling their mother 'Cherry' due to her red hair.
~George is named after his Uncle, George Weasley.

Lost
People Minerva McGonagall lost throughout her life. Part 1 Mary MacDonald
We'll first start this story with someone that Minerva didn't lose in the general sense. No, Mary MacDonald wasn't dead. She was pretty much alive and going through life with her head held high. But let's go back to the start when she first came to Hogwarts.
Mary McDonald was a brown-skinned muggle-born. When she first came to Hogwarts she was bubbly and lively. She talked a lot in class. She had friends in all of the houses except Slytherin. You have to remember she was a student at a time when most of the Slytherin kids were either death eaters in the making or just prejudiced against the muggle-borns like her. She wasn't a Gryffindor, she was a Hufflepuff. But she was quite gifted in Transfiguration Minerva noticed quickly. It didn't take long for her to become one of Minerva's favourite students.
In her fourth year, Mary experienced something terrible. She didn't remember what happened to her. She only remembers being cornered by Muliciber and his Slytherin gang. She remembers being in extreme pain. She remembers seeing red sparks. But she doesn't remember what exactly happened. In an instant, the fun and bubbly teenager Minerva had once known became quiet and distant. She rarely talked in class anymore and slowly closed in on herself. As days went on her friends stopped trying to talk to her and gave her space.
Minerva tried convincing the school governors about expelling Muliciber. She and Dumbledore tried everything in their might to make that happen but they were dismissed. The governors dismissed Mary's claims about Muliciber saying she couldn't tell them exactly what happened to her. It'd be immoral to expel someone based on words that had a high chance of being false. But Minerva knew the truth. Muliciber was from a rich pureblood family, they had lots of influence in the wizarding world including the school.
So, she had to let it go. But she kept an eye on Muliciber as well as Mary. She did the next best thing she could offer. She invited Mary to her office at lunch and tried to talk to her, she gave the girl extra defence lessons since the teacher that year was as good as an insect. Mary seemed to appreciate the lessons quite a lot.
Mary was a force to reckon with Minerva learned early on in her extra lessons. And when she requested she wanted to practice defence with some other students Minerva took the offer up to Dumbledore immediately. He seemed to appreciate the idea and permitted Minerva to make a defence club. Little did she know his intentions were more than mere self-defence.
The next morning at breakfast she told Mary about making the defence club. The girl's brown eyes lit up with excitement, possibly for the first time in months. Minerva offered her office as the place for practice which she excepted gladly. The next day she saw dark pink leaflets being distributed among the Hufflepuff, Gryffindor and Ravenclaw students. Apparently, Lily Evans helped Mary MacDonald make them overnight and was the first to join Mary's club.
To no one's surprise, James Potter and his gang of mischief makers were the next to join along with a few other muggle-borns and pure and half-bloods of three of the four houses. Minerva noticed James taking Mary slowly under his wings, helping her with more difficult spells and sometimes making Sirius help her if he was unable to perform the spell himself. She saw Lily Evans and Remus Lupin making an effort of talking to Mary, making the younger girl more comfortable around people again. Peter Pettigrew and Emmeline Vance started forcing her to play board games with them. And after a while, Marlene Mckinnon and Dorcas Meadows started joining them.
As the term ended and a new one began things started getting worse for the muggle-born students. Mary and Lily started sticking close to each other despite their year and house differences. Lily's friends Marlene and Dorcas and Mary's friend Emmeline who stuck to her through the worst of her school years became warier as the rumours about a dark lord started spreading rapidly. Minerva noticed Mary's hand going towards her wand even in the slightest movement. That was the year she saw a group as big as theirs. They were nine people constantly sticking together, protecting each other.
Things only got worse for Mary as the years approached and Lily, James and the class of 78 graduated. She only had Emmeline left. The once bubbly girl who endured one of the worst the prejudice had to offer at the age of fourteen became vacant as the days went on. The only people she trusted in the school had graduated. In the last year of her school, Minerva watched as she and Emmeline stopped coming to the defence club, instead choosing to practice spells on their own in the astronomy tower and keeping away from other students. Always watching out for a sudden movement.
As the years approached Mary graduated from Hogwarts, promising Minerva that she would see her again but she didn't think it'd take this long. Mary, however brave and strong she had been didn't join the war effort. In fact, it seemed like she completely disappeared from the face of the earth. Even Emmeline, her best friend couldn't tell where she was. Minerva remembered asking the young witch about her friend in one of the Order meetings in the first war. With a sad and hurt expression, she said she had no idea. Minerva never asked her again.
She heard from Mary twice since she left school, once when the Potters were murdered and once when Emmeline Vance has been murdered. The Potters' news spread like wildfire so Mary wrote on her own accord, asking how many of her friends were still alive. And when Emmeline died Minerva felt like she was obliged to give Mary this news. Mary wrote her back immediately, thanking her for letting her know that all of her friends were now gone. Minerva wrote back, saying Remus and Sirius were still here. But Mary didn't write her back and in weeks Sirius was gone too and Remus started taking dangerous works so she didn't know what was true anymore.
Years progressed and the war ended, taking the lives of Minerva's precious students and friends, she didn't hear from Mary anymore although she had sent her a letter letting her know it was all done. All the struggles were finished. But one faithful morning in August, just one month before the new term was about to start Hagrid came into Dumbledore's old office which was Minerva's now.
He told her someone was here to see her, a brown-skinned witch who claimed herself as Mary McDonald. Minerva walked into the ground to see a familiar yet unfamiliar face observing the place. When she felt Minerva's presence she looked up with a small smile.
"It has changed a lot professor," Mary said softly. Minerva couldn't stop herself, her face spilt into a broad smile.
"A lot of the parts were destroyed two years ago," Mary nodded before hugging the professor and sobbing.
"Professor, my daughter turned eleven this year and she got her letter. She's so excited to attend Hogwarts but-" Mary broke the hug and drew in a sharp breath, "But- my memories of this world aren't- aren't that pleasant." Minerva nodded and patted Mary's shoulder.
"I don't know if you've seen the last letter I sent you—"
"I have professor," Mary cut her off. "And I'm so sorry. I just couldn't bare coming back to this world after... after everything that happened,"
Minerva nodded understandingly, "and I don't blame you. You've endured a lot. And you've only lost things in this world rather than gaining anything. But things have changed miss—"
"Please call me Mary professor. I've always wanted to hear my name from you. Besides I'm not Miss anymore,"
"Things have changed Mary," Minerva smiled a soft smile. "And I know I can't guarantee you that there won't be any prejudices against muggles and muggle-borns but no one will attack their fellow pupils anymore. And I'm sure your daughter will be a lovely addition to this world just like you are,"
"I haven't been in this world since I turned seventeen,"
"You've always been a part of this world, MacDonald, even though you have kept your distance,"
"I'll send her here professor. She's so excited and I can't deny her the experience that I had. Even after that incident and all the paranoia, Hogwarts has been home," Mary seemed to hesitate before opening her mouth again, "Professor... I-I kept news of the wizarding world and I know Lily had a son and he was the one to end it all,"
"You want to meet Mr Potter," Minerva smiled.
"I know I shouldn't go to him now when I didn't go at the time he needed someone the most but—"
"Mary," Minerva stopped her, "I'm sure Harry will love to meet you. He still cherishes stories of his parents. He didn't get to hear much of them. Remus and Sirius came into his life for only a short period of time," she smiled sadly while Mary's eyes swam with water, "I think you'd find Remus' son with him now as well," Mary looked shocked, "Here," Minerva conjured a paper from thin air and handed it to Mary.
"Remus had a son?"
"He's only two years old," Minerva smiled fondly at the reminder of the blue-haired baby, another wartime child who wasn't going to know his parents.
"Isn't he supposed to be with his mother?" Minerva gave her a grave look and she understood. "Was she a student of yours too professor?" Mary asked quietly.
"She was," Minerva nodded, "In fact, she was in your old house. The youngest auror, a metamorpmagus. You'd be so proud." Mary nodded staring at the address on her hand distantly before starting to walk out of the castle but Minerva wanted to say something to her so, she called her, "It's good to see you again miss MacDonald," and this time Mary didn't correct her, she just looked back and smiled before continuing her walk again, "I'll be expecting a letter telling your daughter will be attending.” Mary's quiet laughter was heard before she disappeared out of the school ground and onto Hogsmeade.
Her arrival made Minerva suddenly feel too tired and old and she couldn't stand there anymore. She sat down on the grass-filled field where she had spent so many years of her life. Her childhood, her adulthood and now her last years. She can't remember a time in her life when she wasn't here. She's seen too many students, too many children come here with hope and wonder in their eyes and leave with determination or a broken heart. She's seen so many of her students join the war effort both in the light and dark side. She's lost too many of her students, her children in wars. Mary's arrival today reminded her of the fact that an entire generation was robbed of their lives and another one was about to live the rest of theirs with severe trauma. She hoped no other generation will have to endure what the last few had.

How i perceive Alice Fortescue
Basics:
Alice Cathal Fortescue
- she/they
-born on october 21st, 1958
- Bisexual
- Gender queer
- Gryffindor (a year ahead of the core 4)
- SHE WAS PLUS SIZED!!!!!!
-english and jewish/french/eastern asian/ portuguese (i like all of these hcs tbh)
Life, family and history
-She had two dads (i don't care that it's impractical she gives me 'i was raised by two dads' vibes)
-One of her dads is irish and he chose for her the name "Cathal" meaning along the lines of battle ruler, a mighty warrior.
- Florian Fortescue, the ice cream shop owner, was her uncle. She worked there while on vacations and they grew up there eating ice cream
- Their family was the most adorable and healthy. Her childhood was the best, they grew up with loving and supportive parents, they had a traditional game night every thursday where they played muggle board games (because they wanted to keep up with muggle culture) They always tried to defy the blood supremacy in any way possible.
- She was childhood friends with Emmeline and of course, Caradoc, he was their best friend. They always hung out together as kids at Diagon Alley, since both their families had shops there.
- Alice loved quiddich and books, she spent many afternoons at the second hand bookstore next to the shop, reading all the books she could put their hands on. The owner had a soft spot for her.
- Alice was a radical leftist.
- She loved reading muggle literature, specially horror ans suspense books, such as King and Thomas Tyrion, but she read every kind of book.
- They were extremely passionate about cinema and movies. They had many cameras and usually shot short films with her friends.
- She studied a lot about movie direction and script writing and cinematography. Alice did it all, one of their dreams for after the war ended was to study visual arts and cinema.
- Her favorite movie was 2001.
- Alice played cello, viola, the drums and acoustic bass.
- Her music taste consisted of a lot of Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Kiss, The Beatles, Billie Holliday and Patti Smith.
- Her parents were always experimenting new ice cream flavors for the shop
Hogwarts years:
- Alice, Caradoc, Emmeline, Benjy and Edgar were inseparable friends at hogwarts. They were always together studying, training for quiddich or just hanging out. They loved watching muggle movies together on vacation, always found a way to visit one another in the summers.
-Alice loved plants (either muggle or magical) and professor Sprout had a soft spot for them.
- Alice's house was THE hangout place. They lived in a house in a small muggle town close to London, it was adorable, full of plants, a big garden and backyard where one of her dads grew wizard plants and some regular fruits.
- Alice played quiddich as a seeker (but was on the bench, she preffered watching and studying the technical side)
Physical appearence:
- Around 1,67m tall, plus sized, with thick thighs and curvy body, they had plump cheeks and a round, kind face.
- Straight thick dark brown/black hair and brown eyes.
- She never had hair below her shoulders, but when it was longer she used a fringe.
-She loved changing their hair, she dyed and cut it all the time. Lily shaved their head on her last year, and after that, they only kept it as a pixie cut. Alice hated having long hair.
Random Headcanons
-Loved to paint, but wasn't very good at it. She loved history and museums.
- She was a voracious reader and very smart, on the top 3 of the class in almost every subject.
- Best dueler in her year, awesome in defensive and offensive magic (especially hexes)
- They formed a dueling club while in 5th year, where she taught other people how to fight
- Whenever she and Lily were bored, they violently dueled each other just for funsies
- Was obcessed with butterflies
- Their favorite directors were Hitchcock, Scorcese and Lumet. She absolutely adored Annie Hall and Taxi Driver (She had a crush on De Niro)
-Alice was one of the most gryffindor people to ever be born, she was brave, daring, loyal, smart, chivalrous. Everyone stopped to listen to what they had to say, she just had that leader aura.
- Everyone wanted to date her, to be with her, they were so beautiful and caught everybody's eye, all jaws dropped wherever she passed.
- Alice loved kissing, she thought it was fun and didn't see much meaning into it.
- She always thought of the right and correct thing to be done, about the ethics of people's actions and choices, her moral compass was the most trusted of everyone.
- Have i mentioned she was gorgeous??
-Everyone in the years below looked up to them, she was an example of what to do, how to act on school and in life.
- But don't think she was a saint who never broke the rules. They did it all the time, they ignored curfew, smoked, drank loads, pulled pranks, did drugs (but all with conciousness, being carefull). She could fool everyone with that angel face.
- They loved art, her favorite movements were reinassance, romantism, ukiyo-e and expressionism.
- They loved to sing and dance, loved all things classic (except music, she only liked music with lyrics but she did love Tchaikovsky)
- Their bedroom was incredible and full of stuff, she loved keeping and collecting things, she loved souvenirs and porcelain and just small decorative items.
- They had an AMAZING vinyl colection, everybody was jealous of it.
- They adored the sound of rain, but didn't like rain itself. Her favorite season was sping
- She loved smoking while drinking tea
- They were extroverted and social but also loved and could only recharge by being alone and having their space.
- She loved ballet.
- She started dating Frank while in auror training, after having graduated. At Hogwarts they hung out and were very good friends, but she never saw him like that before, he was a year older than her and she looked up to him, just like everyone else. Frank was a great person, a great leader and athlete, very smart and brave, he was sweet and caring and just had major dad energy. They worked well, they were very similar in many ways, their marriage years were fun and exciting, they loved each other very much (or else they would not have had decided to have a fucking child in the middle of war)
-they loved crochets, cardigans, anything denim, jackets she loved layering the clothes.
- They loved gardening and the earth, feeling dirt under her nails, sensing the energy of nature, being able to create and help develop a life. She loved flowers.
- She was so fierce, so decided and so confident, so sure about everything. It was impossible not to like her.
Style
- Very goth fairycore and kinda dark academia (these were her vibes at least) long skirts, crop tops, short sleeve shirts. SHE LOVED OVERALLS, especially jeans overalls.
- Color palette: brown, green, white, beige, pastel yellow and black.
- Only wore light make up.
- She liked boots, sneakers and doc martens but mostly she liked walking barefoot.
(my fav alice ships are wonderflower, fralice and emmalice but i can see the alicissa vision)

Lily and Remus would perhaps be best equipped to understand how dangerous Regulus might be, Remus for the reasons you mentioned and Lily because she gets having a toxic relationship with your sibling, she knows loving your sibling does not automatically mean that the relationship is good and healthy (she even knows that one sibling loving the other doesn’t mean it’s reciprocated). Part of the sourness from Petunia was that Lily had this special gift but Petunia didn’t, and there’s no guarantee Regulus wouldn’t resent Sirius for being the heir while Regulus is the spare by crime of birth; of course, Lily does not have the necessary background on the House of Black to truly understand what Regulus might be capable of, she might heard some rumors and maybe a couple offhand mentions from Sirius, but she has no idea the full scope of the family’s unhinged-ness, and there’s nobody who can tell her. The Marauders have no true interaction with the Blacks outside of Sirius and perhaps view Sirius in a better light than he truly should be seen in; I doubt James’s parents would tell James the more horrifying rumors about the Blacks when his best friend is a Black, and Peter and Remus are both half-bloods, it’s doubtful their magical parents had the necessary exposure to the Blacks’ circle to learn what might be going on with the family currently. Anyone at the school that’s actually close to the Blacks, who know what the family is like and how that impacts how Regulus will interact and view Sirius’s friends (who Regulus blames for Sirius being a blood-traitor/on the path of being considered one [can one be viewed as a blood-traitor and then come back?]), aren’t people that Lily can speak to, since they share Regulus’s blood supremacy views. She can hardly swan up to Evan Rosier/Rabastan Lestrange/whoever and say, “Hey, wanna tell me all the nitty-gritty details of the Black family? I’m concerned about what Regulus will do”
Oo, yes, Lily is uniquely positioned to have an accurate read on Regulus (and she's going to be integral to this narrative). I love the Lily-Petunia Sirius-Regulus parallels so much, honestly (it's part of what really drew me into Regulily). There's the jealousy aspect, the fact that Lily was the special one for her magic and Sirius special for being the heir, and then there's also the sense of loss. Lily leaves Petunia for a boarding school that Petunia is not allowed to go to. Petunia wants to go with Lily and isn't accepted. I think at that point her bitterness was as much about feeling abandoned by Lily as it was about feeling jealous. And Sirius, too, goes where Regulus cannot follow: to the Potters (to be fair, Regulus didn't try to go with Sirius like Petunia did, but for his own reasons he cannot follow).
I also think that Lily's connection with Snape would give her some insight into the Black family. Of course, Snape has a negative bias against the Blacks (because of Sirius and, I imagine, because they're the type to pull rank and I'm sure that rankles). That combined with the fact that Lily is muggle-born and can't afford to play games with the future Death Eaters of Britain means that she's probably the most cautious of the lot of them around Regulus. Still vulnerable, in her own way, but she understand the potential danger that Regulus poses.
But *sigh* James really should know better. Out of all of them, he really should know what he's dipping his toes into when he gets involved with Regulus. He is the pureblood from an old wizarding family, he has the most exposure to that world and what it looks like, but his worldview is so narrow that it leaves him vulnerable.

‘You’re gonna love this,’ James said giddily as he led them out through the kitchen and into the annexe of the house. His voice echoed through the narrow hall though he didn’t seem to notice probably because in the past hour they had spent at the ‘proper’ party James had drunk at least four questionable drinks. He wasn’t the only one though. Sirius had drunk at least six though appeared unaffected as did Daisy and Remus who’d only had a couple. Peter however was just as amped up as James after drinking only one beer.
James led them down to a door at the end of the corridor, flinging it open so hard that it banged against the wall loudly, which was revealed to be a games room. Bookshelves full of books and board games made up one wall with couches and chairs up against the other. A mini bar made up one corner though it made Daisy nervous as clocked the dart board behind it, fearing what damage could be done if they decided to play drunken darts. And there in the middle of the room was a pool table. It was impressive but then again most of the Potter’s house was. Sirius however seemed amazed.
‘You got one!?’ he said, rushing forward to inspect the pool table. ‘Christmas present from mum and dad,’ James said, moving to sit on top of it as Remus and Peter took a seat on the couches. ‘Looks great,’ Remus said as he sunk down into his seat. ‘I didn’t know you played pool,’ Daisy said, as she came up to where James was sitting, her hand running across the green felt. She’d never really thought about it before but she’d never pegged them knowing about pool given that it was a muggle game. ‘Well no, not really,’ James admitted. Daisy giggled. ‘We saw one of these when we went to muggle London last summer. It looked ace,’ Sirius said. ‘So you’ve never played?’ she said perplexed, both boys shared embarrassed looks, ‘oh boys. You’re about to learn a thing or two.’
They hung out in the game room for hours, drinking and shooting pool. After her showing them the ropes they all got a handle on it quickly and it wasn’t long before they were besting her, granted her game got worse the more she drank. Eventually though James suggested that they change pace and led them outside and up some back steps which brought them up onto the top of the annexe. There were seats up here, a cool box and a small fire suspended in front of them and even though it was dark the view was amazing. Whilst people milled around down on the patio below they looked out to the yard, which comprised of a large lawn and then a field encircled with trees where they played quidditch. Beyond that were rolling hills that descended into a small village, the lights of the houses twinkling in the night sky.
As James grabbed everyone another drink the rest of them took to a seat by the fire, relaxing back as they prepared for the end of year. Daisy stared at the fire, revelling in the warmth it was providing considering she had come out without a coat, though as she stared at the flames she found her mind wandering. As comfortable as she had been over the last few days it was bizarre to think about being here. She couldn’t believe that just over a month ago she’d disliked any one of these boys, her opinion shaped by things that had happened years ago. Now she could hardly picture her life without them in it. Even in the short space of time they felt as close as Marlene or Alice to her. She was pulled from her thoughts by shrill laugh coming from the patio below which made the gang smile.
‘At least the old folks are enjoying themselves,’ James chuckled. ‘Why aren’t you?’ Peter asked. ‘Of course, I am Wormtail,’ James said rolling his eyes, ‘a night with my four best pals, booze and a new year to look forward to what’s not to enjoy?’ ‘You think this year is going to be good?’ Sirius said sceptically.
‘Yeah, why not?’ James said. ‘It’s OWL year,’ Daisy said, though as Sirius glanced at her she couldn’t help but feel that wasn’t what he was talking about and for a moment their conversation about upcoming war flicked through her booze addled brain. ‘And we’ll ace them. I have no fear,’ James said smugly. ‘Glad you’re so sure,’ Remus snorted sipping a beer. ‘Like you have anything to worry about Moony,’ Sirius chuckled, his concern apparently gone. ‘Yeah until my furry little problem crops up mid-exams,’ he sighed.
‘Moony,’ James said exaggeratedly getting up from his small folding chair and walking towards the boy, perching on his chair and throwing an arm around him. ‘Yes, Prongs?’ Remus said looking up at him with batted eyelids. ‘You have to stop worrying mate. Throw caution to the wind and let loose,’ James said though it was a little slurred. Daisy giggled which received a glare. ‘Oh do I?’ Remus chuckled. ‘Yes, which is why I have the best idea to help you,’ he said, jumping up off the chair arm and calling for Bonney, the house elf, who appeared immediately with a squeak. Remus sighed. ‘Come on then what’s your big idea?’ Remus asked though as he did five brooms appeared by the edge of the roof, resting on the wall.
‘We have a race!’ James exclaimed. Sirius smirked. ‘You’re joking!’ Daisy said, ‘James you’re drunk how is that a good idea?’ ‘I’m a good rider,’ he said. ‘Mate I don’t know,’ Remus said unsure. ‘Come on!’ James whined, ‘we race from the roof down to the pitch, do a full lap and back. The first one back wins.’
‘I’m in,’ Sirius said standing up. ‘Well I’m out,’ Daisy said, ‘even if I weren’t wearing this dress you’re not getting me flying about half cut.’ ‘Okay, Dais is out,’ Sirius chuckled, ‘Pete?’ ‘I’m in,’ Peter said though he sounded less confident than James and Sirius had. ‘Rem?’ James said, holding out a broom to his friend as he wiggled his eyebrows. Remus looked between the boys and then at Daisy who shook her head. ‘Go on then,’ he sighed, offering his hand out for James to give him the broom. Daisy sighed, watching as the four of the mounted their brooms, close to the edge of the roof.
‘Okay!’ James said, ‘rules are. You must do a full lap around the quidditch pitch! The first one back wins.’ ‘What do they win?’ Peter said. James seemed to ponder this for a moment before looking back, his gaze falling on Daisy, as did the other boys. ‘A kiss from a fair maiden,’ he said. ‘No way,’ Daisy scoffed earning a round of disapprovals and boos. ‘Come on Dais!’ Peter chuckled. ‘Yeah, don’t be a poor sport,’ Sirius added. Daisy’s eyes narrowed before she grumbled, ‘fine then.’ ‘Atta girl!’ James cheered, ‘now! The good stuff. The winner gets a kiss from a fair maiden but the loser has to do another lap of the track just before midnight.’ ‘When all your parents’ guests come out?’ Remus said suspiciously. ‘Indeedio Moony my dear pal,’ James grinned. Sirius sighed making Daisy feel as though she’d miss something. ‘What’s the catch?’ Remus asked. ‘The loser does a lap. Stark. Bollock. Naked,’ James grinned earning a round of groans and yet the four agreed to the conditions immediately after with Daisy shaking her head in disapproval. As they took their positions on the edge of the balcony James called her over, pleading that she be referee.
‘Fine,’ she grumbled, coming to stand beside where they were lined up, her arms wrapped around herself as the cold night are touched her skin now that she was out of the warmth of the fire, ‘are you ready?’ ‘Ready,’ they cheered. ‘On your marks, get set...GO!’ she said, watching as four bodies flew past her and into the dark night sky. She watched for a moment but as they got down towards the tree line and out of sight she gave up, turning around and sitting back down, warming herself as she waited for their return. She could hear the people on the patio more now, whether that was because she was now alone or because they’d all started to filter outside she didn’t know, but eventually her attention left them, going back to the sky only to find two figures speeding towards her through the indigo sky, one just behind the other. She’d no sooner spotted them before they were on solid ground, Remus appearing first followed by Peter. As they dismounted, high fiving Daisy who’d got up to greet them, James and Sirius came into view, landing on the roof not a moment later.
‘How did you get back so soon!?’ James asked perplexed before he’d even touched ground. Sirius too looked confused as to how he was on the latter half of the leaderboard.
‘You two were too busy trying to pass each other around the apple tree,’ Remus shrugged. ‘So Remus wins?’ Daisy said, scanning over the order in which they’d landed though she knew he had been first back. ‘Rem wins,’ James grumbled, folding his arms across his chest.
‘Ready to claim your prize?’ Daisy mused moving towards her friend. Remus smiled and leaned in allowing Daisy to take the lead though even in heels she had to stand on her tiptoes to reach him. As they kissed the boys cheered, making Daisy giggle. However as they pulled apart Sirius cleared his throat and looked toward his messy-haired friend.
‘Forgetting something Prongs pal?’ he said with a quirked eyebrow. ‘What?’ James said as if he had no idea what they were waiting for. ‘Come on,’ Daisy scoffed, ‘get your arse on that broom Potter.’ ‘You didn’t think that was serious?’ he scoffed, as if the idea were ridiculous.
‘Daisy held up her end of the bargain,’ Remus countered.
‘But-’ he protested but Daisy shook her head. ‘Strip,’ she commanded.
James sighed and yanked his tie off. It was going to be a cold start to 1976.

Daisy was asleep, but even deep in slumber she could hear groaning which was dragging her back to the surface of reality. She wasn’t fully awake but her eyes flew open as she heard a grunt followed by a clatter as the bathroom door slammed shut, the sound of someone being violently sick coming from it not a moment later. She pushed herself up onto her elbows, rubbing her eyes as she tried to take in where she was. She realised she was in James’ room, though it was hard to make out much given how dark it was. She squinted, looking over to the bed to find it in disarray, bed clothes pushed back on one side, though they covered Sirius who was still lying in bed though she couldn’t tell if he was asleep or not.
‘What’s going on?’ she mumbled, pushing herself up until she was sitting.
‘Seems Prongs had a bit too much to drink,’ Sirius said, following suit so he could see her from where he was. As another round of vomiting was heard from the adjoining look Daisy scrunched her nose, trying to ignore the queasy feeling it roused in her. ‘That’s horrible,’ she said disgustedly. ‘You’ve not heard the past five times he’s done it,’ he chuckled. ‘Really?’ she said, thanking God the alcohol in her system had done her a favour and blocked most of it out ‘Well he’s pole-vaulted over me every single time so,’ he grumbled. As he did James threw the bathroom door open, allowing light to spill out into the room, blinding Daisy for a moment before he pushed it to and came to sit on the camp bed, perching beside her feet.
‘Well, that was by far the worst one,’ he grumbled, wiping the sweat from his brow. ‘Are you okay?’ she said, going to move closer to him in an attempt to provide some form of comfort though as the smell of stale ale and vomit hit her nostrils she pulled back, shuffling her bottom a bit further away for fear she’d be sick herself. ‘I think so,’ he said, throwing her a weak smile. ‘Thank Merlin because I don’t think I can take another kick to the stomach as you launch yourself over me,’ Sirius said. ‘Mate when you gotta go you gotta go,’ James said with little conviction. Daisy giggled. ‘You’ve even woken Dais up this time,’ Sirius said, pressing his point. ‘Have some sympathy for the man,’ Daisy said, suddenly feeling bad for the boy as she looked at him. Sure it was self-inflicted but it’d been in order to help them have a good time. Not to mention he looked positively awful, so much so she even conceded to get near him, leaning forward to push his sweaty hair back off his face with a motherly air.
‘Thank you, Daisy. Nice to know someone cares about me,’ he smiled before sticking his tongue out at Sirius.
‘That’s me,’ she giggled, ‘I must just be nicer than Sirius.’
‘You must love me more,’ James mused. ‘Well if you love him that much you can come and sleep next to him,’ Sirius grumbled. She knew he didn’t really mean it but there was an edge to his tone most likely due to the lack of sleep he’d had combined with being used as a springboard for the past few hours. ‘Why don’t I just sleep in the camp bed then? Since I’m such a hindrance,’ James said dramatically, apparently too engrossed in self-pity to even care if Sirius was being serious or not. Daisy giggled, but as she felt Sirius’ eyes land on her, she got the memo.
‘Fine!’ she grumbled, shuffling out from the warm bed she was nestled in and through the cold bedroom to the four-poster. James laid down the moment she was gone, not bothering to straighten out the blankets but rather lay awkwardly upon them. Sirius was laying down by the time she got over to the bed resting his head on his arm, grey eyes watching as she slid into bed beside him, only now realising he was bare-chested. She made no comment on it, instead laying down and looking at the canopy above her as she pulled the covers up to her neck. Her head had barely hit the pillow and James was up again and hurtling into the bathroom slamming the door behind him with an almighty slam.
‘Jesus,’ she said, glancing at the door before her gaze landed on the boy in the bed next to her. ‘I’m just thankful he didn’t take me out in the process,’ Sirius said looking at her with a smile. ‘Well you’re very welcome for my services,’ Daisy giggled. ‘Oh you’re hired for every time Prongs drinks from now on just in case,’ Sirius said back with a chuckle. ‘He’s not always like this is he?’ she asked. ‘No, I think he went a bit overboard this year because you were here,’ Sirius said honestly. Daisy fought the urge to roll her eyes. James Potter a show boat, who’d have guessed. ‘That or being so cold from flying naked had an adverse effect on him,’ she said. ‘I just hope none of his parent’s ministry friends saw him…or y’know,’ he said, glancing downwards. Daisy laughed. ‘Oh my god! Could you imagine if the deputy head of Aurors has got James’ wand forever imprinted in his brain?!’ she chuckled. ‘Wand eh?’ Sirius said. Daisy flushed deep crimson though through the darkness Sirius couldn’t tell. ‘Oh shut up,’ she said shoving him gently making him laugh.
As his laughter died down the pair of them fell silent, the only noise that of James in the bathroom. Though as she lay there she found a question pop into her head, one she’d had earlier in the night but had tucked away for a better time to bring it up. After a beat, she cleared her throat which caused Sirius to look at her. ‘Sirius,’ she said curiously. He said nothing but raised his eyebrows as if waiting for her to continue which she did though she let her gaze wander to the ceiling, ‘do you really want to be an Auror?’ Sirius said nothing for a beat before he responded, ‘yeah…I think I do.’ ‘Why?’ she said, turning towards him, her intrigue heightened enough to make her forget all her nerves about asking.
‘I dunno,’ he said, turning to look at her too. ‘Like how do you know that’s what you want? Because it’s OWL year and I’ve absolutely no idea what I’m doing,’ she admitted. ‘I don’t think any of us do,’ he chuckled, ‘but it seems like a good shout. I mean it’s all the subjects I’m actually good at. James is dead set on it so at least it’s not like I’ll be alone in trying to get through the course and that…’ ‘Yeah I suppose,’ she said. ‘And,’ he started, pausing as he mulled over what he was thinking before deeming it worthy of airing, ‘well it’s the right thing isn’t it?’ ‘What do you mean?’ she asked. ‘Well, if bad times are coming like everyone suspects I’d rather be on the team that’s trying to combat it than one that’s helping it y’know?’ he explained. Daisy sighed. ‘I get that,’ she said quietly, ‘and I wanna be on that side too but I don’t think having makeup skills and a sort of knack for potions will help anyone.’
Sirius chuckled, ‘I bet there’s something you could do. I mean you could be a healer or something? That way if you can’t heal a horrible hex you cover it with makeup?’ ‘That’s not a bad idea,’ she giggled. She knew it was in jest but as the two of them fell into comfortable silence Daisy’s mind started to whirr about his suggestion. It wasn’t such a bad idea. She had learned a lot from Madam Pomfrey through her recovery and the two classes she was most adept at were charms and potions. She’d just never really thought about it before, even now, in OWL year, everything still seemed so far away.
It still was she supposed and even if not it was still not coming right this minute and so she made a note to think about it another time, possibly discuss it with Lily when she was back at school to see what she thought. Lily no doubt would have an idea, or ten, about possible career paths. In fact, she couldn’t believe that the two most unruly members of their little group already had a plan for leaving school though it was a couple of years to go. When he pulled out of her thoughts she found him watching her, offering a small smile when she looked at him which she returned though the moment was quashed as James came barrelling through the bathroom door and flopped down on the camp bed with a groan, capturing both of their attention.
‘I’m never drinking again,’ the messy-haired boy grumbled as he lay face down in a mess of pillows. His friends had to suppress a laugh. ‘A galleon he fails by the end of the month,’ she whispered as James’ light snores started to echo through the room as he finally succumbed to his fatigue now that he was empty of everything. ‘You’re on,’ Sirius agreed.
✵✵✵
‘And make sure that you pay attention in your classes! This year is the most important so far. It’ll determine your future!’ Euphemia rambled as she stood at the car window, peering in. ‘Yes mum we know,’ James said, trying to remain polite though he was still grey in colour as his hangover had clung on straight into the second day. ‘And if you need anything at all just send word okay? That goes for all of you! I’m just an owl away,’ she said. ‘Euphemia they know all of this,’ Fleamont said, a glint in his eye, ‘now come along before it’s time to wave them off for the summer term.’ ‘Okay, okay,’ the dark-haired witch said, though she didn’t move away from the door, forcing Fleamont to lean around her as he peered in through the window and said, ‘bye everybody, be good and if you can’t be good don’t get caught.’
‘Will do,’ James smiled. ‘Goodbye, love you sweetheart,’ Euphemia said, blowing him a kiss.
‘Bye, love you,’ James replied as she leaned up allowing the car to zoom away. Once they were out of sight he rolled the window up and placed his head back against the headrest and closed his eyes. ‘You alright Prongs?’ Remus said as the car sped through the winding country lanes making the boy wince. ‘Fine,’ he said breathing through his mouth, ‘just…feeling a little…’ ‘Green?’ Daisy chuckled. ‘I’d say he was more puce,’ Sirius chuckled. ‘Don’t you mean puke,’ Daisy smiled. ‘Please stop,’ James said his eyes still closed. ‘Mate we’ve got at least an hour or two before we land back at school are you sure you’re going to be okay?’ Remus asked with concern. ‘I’m fine,’ James said, ‘I just need them two to stop talking about vomit.’ ‘I don’t know if that’s possible,’ Sirius said. ‘It was going to be our only topic of conversation actually,’ Daisy teased making the boy groan grumble, ‘you know you two weren’t as annoying before Christmas.’
‘Wonders what two weeks alone can do,’ Sirius said, smiling at Daisy who giggled, not spotting the curious look Remus gave them.
The journey from then on was somewhat quiet. James fell asleep even though he had only gotten out of bed a mere two hours ago. Remus started reading his book quietly whilst Peter started the homework he hadn’t bothered to look at over the holiday whilst Daisy and Sirius chatted quietly so as not to disturb their friends. About midday they were dropped off at the gates of Hogwarts rather than in the village, a change made due to James’ delicate constitution, though it didn’t spare him from the trek up to the castle. Once inside he headed straight to the dormitory, no doubt back to bed, and Remus and Peter headed to the library to finish up on the homework and reading they’d been doing in the car, which left Daisy and Sirius with nothing to do.
‘What do you feel like doing?’ Sirius asked as they left the entrance hall and meandered back towards Gryffindor tower. ‘Actually, I was thinking of going unpacking. I mean this suitcase won’t sort itself after all,’ she said. In fact she had loads to do. Besides unpacking and a stack of homework she’d left in her dormitory without thinking she wanted to see the girls, well Lily mostly, and catch up on the holidays before it was back to business as usual.
‘Well that won’t take two minutes,’ Sirius said, not getting what she was inferring. Daisy winced inwardly.
‘Yeah but it depends I mean the girls will be back at some point today…’ she said awkwardly. ‘Oh right,’ Sirius said, catching onto what she meant though he seemed unphased by her wanting to be apart. ‘I mean I’ll hang out later,’ she said quickly. ‘Don’t defend yourself, Dais,’ he shrugged, ‘honestly, you have other friends and other things to do. It’s not a crime.’ ‘Right,’ she said, though she couldn’t help but feel embarrassed.
They were near the portrait hole now, Daisy trying to think of what else to say to try and navigate past the awkwardness inside her. Sirius however didn’t seem to be paying attention to it, in fact, he was too preoccupied smiling at the girls who’d just come through the now open portrait hole. Elaine Boot and Morgana Zabini, two girls from the year below. Daisy watched him, following his gaze as he watched them walk past, giggling furiously at the smirk he was giving them. Though she didn’t know why irritation bubbled inside her and she forced herself forward, catching the fat lady’s portrait before it closed. She turned to find Sirius still watching where the girls had disappeared though he looked towards her as she said, ‘I’m going upstairs I’ll see you later, yeah?’
‘Yeah, see you,’ he said, missing the edge in her tone as he walked off own the corridor in the same direction that the girls had gone.
Daisy stomped up to her dormitory and threw her suitcase on the bed so she could start to unpack. She didn’t know why she had a sudden surge of irritation when she had seen Sirius ogling those girls. She hadn’t given any more thought to her silly little crush over the holiday so much to say that she had successfully pushed it to the back of her mind. Did she enjoy being with Sirius? Of course. Had they become very close over the time they had spent together? Absolutely. Did that give her any say on who he spent his time with other than her?
‘He can do what he wants,’ she mumbled to herself though her thoughts instinctively went to Marlene. After bringing her up right at the start of break Daisy hadn’t dared broach the subject of her friend to Sirius again and so she was at a loss for what was actually going on between them. If he was flirting with other girls whilst he and Marlene were still together she would have to say something, but if they were over she couldn’t stop him, right?
As the last thing was put away Daisy sat down on the edge of the bed and sighed, trying to ignore the easy her mind was spinning with questions though fortunately it was easy to do as the door opened and the girls poured in having just got off the train. The quartet was on one another in a flash giggling and squealing over one another as they all caught up on the past couple of weeks apart. Daisy filled them in on the boringness of Christmas in the castle whilst Lily went into a wealth of detail about Petunia’s upcoming nuptials and their family Christmas. Alice told them all about Christmas at the Fortescues’ and the New Years Eve she had spent with Frank at his home where she had met his mother and thus now required quite the counselling session with her friends. A Marlene had told them all about her quiet Christmas though Daisy couldn’t help but notice she seemed far more upbeat than when she left.
After a thorough debrief they decided to head downstairs for dinner finding it packed to the rafters as everyone had returned from home. They ate and chatted for a while until they were disturbed by a shy-looking Remus who hovered behind where Lily was sitting quietly.
‘You okay Rem?’ Daisy asked as she noticed her friend. ‘Fine thanks but actually it’s Lily I’m after actually Daisy,’ he said causing Lily to turn around on the bench she was sitting on, looking up at her fellow prefect with curiosity as he continued, ‘er, McGonagall wants us to do rounds. ‘What now?’ she asked. Remus nodded making her heave a great sigh. After a long couple of weeks with nothing but Petunia and her mother’s nagging, she had wanted nothing more than to get back to school and see her sister and friends, not traipse around the castle telling off naughty first years all night. ‘Yeah, apparently the Slytherin prefects that are supposed to do tonight are ill,’ he said bitterly. ‘I bet they are,’ she grumbled. Remus rolled his eyes but offered her a smile as she stood up and said goodbye to the girls.
Though Lily was now gone the girls didn’t feel a lull in the conversation and continued to eat and chat for well over an hour, they didn’t even notice how thin the crowd had gotten, too engrossed in talking. They didn’t even notice when Lily reappeared, hovering on the other side of the table beside Marlene but not sitting down.
‘Hey Lil, that was quick,’ Daisy said, not expecting her back so soon and definitely not with the stony expression she was now sporting. ‘Daisy you need to come with me,’ she said in an irate manner. ‘Why?’ Daisy asked but Lily didn’t reply instead she just started walking back out of the hall. The girls watched, just as confused as Daisy was as she leapt up out of her seat and followed her sister who was lingering in the entrance hall waiting for her to catch up. She didn’t allow Daisy to fall into pace with her though, instead keeping just a couple steps ahead, her long legs taking easy strides along the stone floor, as if challenging Daisy to keep up.
‘Lil, what’s going on?’ Daisy asked as she struggled to keep pace behind her. ‘You’ll find out in a moment,’ she said. ‘Why can’t you just tell me?’ Daisy asked, receiving only a snort of derision in return. Eventually, Lily stopped outside of McGonagall’s office and knocked, causing Daisy’s blood to run cold. She was in trouble. She was in trouble and she didn’t know why but Lily did, that much was evident from her scowl. McGonagall’s shrill Scottish voice beckoned them in from the other side of the door and Lily entered quickly followed by her sister.
Lily hung back, holding onto the doorhandle as if ready to leave at any moment, watching as Daisy moved into the room though as she did she was surprised to see not just McGongall there but someone else too. Sitting in a chair with his back to her was Sirius.
‘Thank you, Lily,’ Professor McGonagall offering the redhead a polite smile that didn’t make it over to Daisy as her gaze moved to the blonde.
‘No problem professor,’ Lily said, stopping to glare at Daisy before flouncing out of the room. Daisy watched her sister go, trying to wrack her brain for whatever it was that might have her this mad at her. Whatever she and Sirius had done that the others weren’t also in trouble for. Not that she had time to dwell as McGonagall said, ‘well don’t just stand there come and sit down.
Daisy didn’t reply, she didn’t dare make a sound, but followed her head of house’s request immediately, slipping into the seat next to Sirius. She could feel his eyes on her as she sat down but she kept her gaze forward, her gaze on the older witch who was eyeing her sternly.
‘Miss Evans,’ she started, ‘I trust you aren’t aware of why you have been called to see me?’ ‘No professor,’ Daisy said quietly. ‘I thought as much seeing as those sentiments were shared by your friend Mr Black here. The reason you have been summoned to my office this evening is that I heard you attended a party this weekend. Is that correct?’ Daisy nodded though she couldn’t navigate through to the relevance of this fact, ‘a party well attended by many of the magical community-’ ‘Professor we weren’t on school property and we were behaving,’ Sirius interjected though he trailed off as his defence was brought down with a withering stare. ‘Nevertheless, you were seen with your classmates at this party by Professor Slughorn and though I have no jurisdiction over what you do when you’re outside of these school walls I do have jurisdiction when you’re supposed to be in my care,’ she said. ‘Professor?’ Daisy said not following her. ‘Did it not occur to you that telling a member of staff you were leaving the premises for a number of days might be prudent? Did it not occur to you that we are your guardians whilst you are at this school not only in term time but when you opt to stay in the castle grounds of which you both did of your own accord,’ she said, her voice going higher with each point she made. ‘Professor we didn’t realise-’ Sirius started but she waved him off. ‘That is abundantly clear Mr Black! You also didn’t seem to realise the amount of worry that this would cause. You realise I had to contact your parents Sirius to see if you had gone home,’ she said ignoring Sirius’ snort as she referred to his parent’s worry, ‘and if Professor Slughorn hadn’t noted that he was going to the Potter’s I may have had to follow up with your parents Daisy who have already been through quite enough this year, don’t you think?’ she asked, though neither of them felt the need to reply with words. Daisy didn’t think she would be able to get any words out anyway given she had a lump in her throat from the mention of her parents, the guilt of putting them through something else almost crippling. She remembered the frantic letters she had received the week of her accident begging for replies just so they knew she was okay. If they had told them this she might have been pulled out of school altogether. As both of them nodded she sighed.
‘Fortunately, I am able to see through my students a little clearer than other teachers and I figured that wherever James Potter was the two of you would be. So, I hung back until Professor Slughorn could report back to me,’ she said. ‘Thank you, Professor,’ Daisy said, swallowing the lump in her throat. ‘There is no need to thank me, Miss Evans. I didn’t do this for you but to spare your parents any worry they might have had over you and to save the reputation of this school. That being said do not think that just because I did you a favour you are out of the woods. Both of you will have twenty-five house points deducted from Gryffindor,’ she said looking pained as she uttered the words. The pair nodded acceptingly, ‘I will however look past a detention this time but should anything like this happen again you will be in serious trouble understand?’ ‘Yes Professor,’ they echoed in unison. ‘You are in your fifth year. I expect much better from the pair of you,’ she said, looking at them both for a moment as if pondering something before she said, ‘Daisy you may go.’ ‘But Professor,’ Daisy argued, wondering why she was holding her friend back. McGonagall held a bony finger up to shush her and turned to Sirius insinuating there was no point arguing. Sirius shot Daisy a ‘get out of here' look which she nodded before getting up to leave.
The corridor felt cold and draughtier now though she was it was her that had changed temperature, the sheer amount of worry and panic instilled in her in that office having bumped her up a couple of degrees. Not that she was much focused on the temperature, no, her mind was on Sirius, wondering what the hell McGonagall would want with him alone. As she started to meander down the corridor she heard the noise of footsteps behind her and turned as she heard Lily say, ‘so what did you get? Detention? Points off?’ ‘Twenty-five house points each,’ Daisy grumbled, turning to face her sister who was still as sour-faced as before. ‘I’m surprised she didn’t give you a month’s detention,’ Lily said coolly. ‘Alright Lil,’ Daisy said, feeling under attack, ‘what’s the matter with you?’ ‘As if you have to ask,’ she snorted storming past her sister who caught her by the arm and pulled her to a stop. ‘I do actually. Are you that miffed about house points?’ Daisy asked baffled. ‘It’s not about house points!’ the redhead snapped. ‘Then what is it?’ she replied. ‘You,’ Lily replied, folding her arms across her chest angrily, as if challenging her to respond though Daisy just stared at her, trying to wrap her head around the confusion as she said, ‘me? What have I done?’ ‘What have you done? Do you really not see it?’ Lily said, incredulously. ‘Please enlighten me,’ Daisy said sarcastically. ‘You’re different. Ever since you started hanging out with them you’re different. You forget about your friends. You don’t care about school. You didn’t even notice that Marlene got dumped! Too busy chumming it up with her ex boyfriend!’ she ranted. Daisy took each hit like a punch to the gut but her sister didn’t stop, ‘you pick quidditch matches over spending time with me in the library. You’re mean to Sev now for no reason-’ ‘I have my reasons,’ Daisy said darkly. ‘Yeah those secrets that you can’t tell anyone! The wounds that you can’t talk about! The wounds that you were too ill to travel home for but could go to Potter’s party when it suited. I spent two weeks listening to Tuney and mum plan a wedding whilst you were here pretending to be ill-’ ‘I wasn’t pretending!’ Daisy snapped though she knew that wasn’t Lily’s point. ‘Well, you were well enough to go out on New Year, weren’t you? You even just ditched school like it was nothing. Old Daisy wouldn’t have just walked out of school and not told anyone-’ ‘Yeah well I’m not old Daisy. You’re just annoyed that I don’t want to spend my life in your shadow. That perfect Prefect Lily has a sister who is actually liked now. That I have friends outside you, Alice and Marlene. And yes I spend a lot of time with the boys but that’s because there are no expectations from them. I don’t have to be perfect. I don’t have to be more ladylike, or smarter, or pretty but not so pretty that I draw attention away from you and Marlene,’ Daisy ranted. ‘Is that what you think?’ Lily gawped. ‘I don’t think I know. I know you’re annoyed because you don’t have any control over me and that annoys you because you always want to control everything!’ Daisy shouted. ‘Well if I’m that bad then why are you even still here? I mean you did all you could to get out of coming home with me. I’m surprised you even want to share the same corridor. The same room even,’ Lily spat. ‘You know what you’re right. I better leave this room wouldn’t want my unruliness to rub off on the future head girl,’ Daisy said pushing past her sister and walking down the hall. Lily watched as she disappeared and then stormed off in the other direction.
Though they were both very different people they shared a few things and stubbornness was one of them. Even though bitter winds and snow were still forecasted to ravage the castle for weeks, Hogwarts was about to get a lot frostier.

"YOU'RE POSITIVE THAT THIS WILL WORK, SEVERUS?" The cold, harsh voice of Regulus Black caused a shiver to climb down Severus' back. The menacing boy loomed over the older boy as his bleach blonde sidekick stood at his side. The two stared down at Severus and looked just about ready to tear into the poor boy like savages if he said the wrong thing.
The dark, icy corridor was almost completely empty. The trio of Slytherins was pressed up in a corner as the two more menacing of the three peered down at the third. Severus was stuck between Regulus and Lucius in front of him with the stone wall pressed up against his back. His brow was covered in a nervous sweat as he fiddled with the ends of his robes.
Severus nodded his head vigorously, "y-yeah, It will. As long as she uses it today and you get to her before the effects wear off then it will work."
The greasy-haired boy was shaking in fright before the two boys. The other two were pleased to see the fear that they enlisted in Severus. It was always so wonderful to see that they held such power over someone else. The pathetic teen that submitted to them so easily brought such pleasure and pride into them in a sickening way. What kind of person would be pleased to know that they instilled fear in someone else?
Regulus and Lucius nodded their heads in understanding, "give it to her then." The older blonde demanded of their lackie, "make sure that she gets it before the game today."
Severus nodded his head once again in the same rushed manner. Regulus smirked, "good, by the end of today, that little mudblood will be ours." His pale lips were pulled back in a sick smirk that was mirrored by Lucius. Severus only shook in fear at their expressions. Everything he had strived to stop from happening… was slowly coming together.
---
The weekend for the Hogwarts students had begun with such excitement. There was a quidditch game scheduled for that Saturday morning between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor. Of course, all of the Gryffindors were yelling and shouting about their soon-to-be victory against the house of know-it-alls. The Great Hall was full of loud students, specifically at the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw tables. The Hufflepuffs and Slytherins were far quieter and annoyed with their peers' loudness.
Students from the other two houses were most likely not going to see the game that morning. If a certain house was not playing during a game then the students of that house didn't see a reason to go to the game their team was not playing at. Of course, there were a few exceptions for students who had friends in other houses. However, the game today was certainly going to just be between students of the Gryffindor house and Ravenclaw house.
The year was slowly coming to an end and the quidditch games were decreasing every month. Even if the weather was slowly growing warmer and clearer as flower bloomed and trees began to bud, winter turned into spring and spring was going to turn into summer quite quickly. Summer only meant the end of the school year!
Lily was one of the students who weren't as excited about the match for the day. Much like she forced her friends to study for their classes, Iris and the other girls had decided to force her to go to the quidditch match. The younger redhead wasn't much of a sports fan of either muggle sports or wizarding sports. She never really found them to be appealing in any way. She never played one and had no intention of doing so or even watching a game if she could avoid it. However, like the last few Gryffindor matches, there was no way that Lily could avoid this one.
First, Iris was one of the biggest fans of quidditch that Lily had ever come to know. Iris had become obsessed with the game as soon as she learned about it when they first attended wizarding school. There was no way that Iris was going to miss out on one of the last matches of the year. Second, it was Ravenclaw that they were competing against! Marlene was not going to miss the chance to see William Hanning play, even if it was against her own house. Of course, Wendy had the same outlook on sports just as Lily. However, she was a tad bit more willing to go outside and watch the game with her friends and hang out with them. She may not enjoy sports, but she was willing to endure the loud crowds if it meant having a fun time with her friends. Which Lily could agree with.
Lily was currently getting up from her seat in the Great Hall. Iris had already run out of the hall to head to the Quidditch pitch to get good seats, Marlene went along with her so she could get a good seat to see William best, and Wendy had gone back to the dorms to grab herself a sweater. Even though it was summer, Wendy still had the ability to get cold easily. It was quite weird, honestly.
The redhead started to make her way towards the exit of the hall to go find her friends and sister when a figure blocked her way. She came face to face with a teenage boy who she had only a slight dislike for. It wasn't Potter, obviously. That insufferable boy was getting ready for the match and most likely already at the pitch. No, it was Severus Snape.
The meek boy stood in a hunched manner as it appeared he wanted to disappear at that very moment. He looked anywhere but she and everything about him in that moment screamed nervousness. The greasy-haired boy fiddled with his hands and the ends of his robes and tried to calm himself down through deep breaths.
Lily glared at him slightly though it wasn't as harsh as they had been for a while. She was starting to come to a standstill with her anger towards the Slytherin teen. Yes, Severus deserved the hatred in her eyes. However, it was becoming tiring to have to stay mad at him. He made one simple mistake! One that could easily be ratified through apologizing quite a bit. Yet this was Iris that she was referring to. A simple apology isn't going to do much for her. Iris is known for her temper and ability to hold grudges, not to mention, her knack for blowing things out of proportions sometimes.
"H-hi, Lily…" Severus' voice cracked.
Lily bit the inside of her cheek, "Severus."
The ice in her voice pierced the boy's skin and caused him to flinch. He would never grow used to the way that Lily and Iris looked at him. He could feel the hate-filled daggers stabbing his body, and he didn't like it. However, he knew that he deserved every glare and malice word. It was his fault that they would hate him when they found out what he had been doing. There was no if they found out… he knew that they would find out about the plan sooner or later. Their relationships would then become nonexistence.
"I really wanted to talk to you," the boy squeaked out with a soft voice. Lily only continued to stare at him. He licked his lips, "I just want to ask for forgiveness-"
"You've been trying to do that for a while now."
Severus nodded his head hastily, "yes, yes. I just- Well, I-" He took a deep breath to gather his words. The calculating stare that Lily was shooting him wasn't really helping his attempt to calm down. "I really don't know how to start this."
Lily tsked, "why not with an apology?"
Severus gulped, "right, yes." He cleared his throat, "Lily, I am so so sorry, for everything that I've done." Lily's gaze softened. "I wish Iris was here so I can apologize to her too because she deserves the biggest one I can ever give anyone."
Lily smiled slightly at his words, "you really mean that, Sev?"
Severus tried to flash her a believable, genuine smile as his heart clenched at the use of his nickname. He succeeds and was able to hide his grimace that wanted to settle on his face, "you know me, Lily. I just want to fix our friendship. Iris is like my sister and I hate the fact that we're fighting like this." Oh, those words felt like poison on his lips. They burned his throat as they crawled outward and scratched his esophagus on their journey as they fell out clumsily. He did want to fix his relationship with Iris and Lily. While Iris was like his sister… Lily was obviously something more to him. Ever since they became friends, the boy had grown a very strong attachment to the younger twin. He may be young but he would go even far to say that she loved Lily Evans. Due to the strain in his relationship with Iris, stress had been placed on the one between himself and Lily. He didn't like that, at all. The twins had become a big part of his life, a sister and a… whatever Lily was to him. To lose them would be devastating. However, the actions that he was currently taking were in no way helping his attempt of fixing those relationships.
Lily smiled slightly at that as she believed him wholeheartedly, "you just want to make it better with her?"
Severus held in a flinch and kept the smile on his face, "exactly."
Lily pondered for a moment. To her, it seemed to be that Severus really wanted to fix everything with Iris and her, and Lily was willing to help him. All of this had gone on long enough already. It was time for reconciliation!
Severus dug through his pockets hastily and pulled out a bottle of his familiar and infamous perfumes. Lily smiled at that. Severus was very skilled with potions and she didn't find it to be surprised that he was able to make something like a simple perfume. Plus, she did like the smell of them quite a bit.
"Oh, you want to give her another perfume?" Severus nodded his head, "are you sure that you should? Iris hasn't been really willing to use them…" Lily couldn't help but notice how Iris had been adamant about not using the perfumes that Severus had been gifting them. She really didn't know why she didn't want to use them. Yes, Iris wasn't the girliest girl there is and wouldn't normally use something like perfume, but Lily would think that Iris would use something that was a gift from a close friend. Granted she was holding a grudge against Severus, but Lily would think that if Iris wanted to make things better between them she would accept Severus' gifts.
Severus gulped, "I know, but I really think that this is perfect for her." He didn't really need to come up with a good reason for his "gift". From what he could observe of Lily at that moment, she was willing to do anything to help him fix his relationship with Iris.
"You do know that she is quite suspicious about your perfumes," Lily commented as they started to walk through the corridor to a quieter place now that more students were filing out of the Great Hall. "For some reason."
"Then don't tell her it's from me!" Severus exclaimed quickly, "I just really want her to have it…"
"Okay, okay." She took the glass bottle that was filled with the clear liquid. "I'll give it to her, and I won't tell her it's from you." She thought that if she did that Iris may be slightly more inclined to take it. Then when Severus tried to fix their relationship he could tell her that he was the one to make it. That fact may possibly help convince Iris to consider mending what was left between the two of them. That's what she hoped for anyway.
Severus sighed out in relief at her agreement, "thank you, Lily. This means a lot to me."
Lily smiled softly, "hopefully now everything can go back to normal!"
Her optimism only caused his stomach to sink further, "yeah… I hope so."
---
Lily skipped through the corridors on her way to the Gryffindor tower. The conversation that she had with Severus had put her in good spirits. The prospect of fixing the fractured relationship between herself, Iris and Severus gave her a sense of optimism. They could finally put the simple mistake that Severus made behind them and make up for lost time together.
As she was walking through the portrait hole after giving the Fat Lady the password, a shout greeted her in the common room. "Come on, Marlene!" Her twin sister shouted up the stairs to their friend, "we won't get good seats if you don't hurry up!"
"Hey, Iris!" Lily said happily as she came to stand next to her nearly identical twin. A wide smile was stretched across her pale lips and display her straight, pearly white teeth. "What are you doing up here? I thought you already went down to the game."
Iris wrinkled her nose slightly, "we were. But somebody forgot to get her flag!"
Marlene then came down the stairs with said Gryffindor flag that she had accidentally left on her bed. "Well, sorry, miss. Impatient. The game doesn't even start for another fifteen minutes, we have plenty of time to get back to our seats." She shrugged her shoulders.
Iris huffed, "doesn't matter, I wanted to stay down there to see the teams practice before the game."
"We don't always get what we want!"
As Iris and Marlene were arguing with each other slightly, Lily pulled out the perfume that Severus had given her out of her satchel. She held the small bottle for a moment as she allowed the two girls in front of her to bicker for a moment longer. Just as she saw that the argument was going to go around in circles (like usual), she cleared her throat.
The two bickering girls paused to look at the younger redhead who seemed to be bouncing on the balls of her feet. A broad smile was on her lips as her pearly, whites were on display. "Stop fightin' with each other over a flag," the amusement of the situation was getting to her. She thrust her hand forward to show the two the clear bottle of perfume that she had. "Here, Iris. I got this for you!"
At the sight of the bottle, Iris just about hissed in distaste. It looked almost exactly like the ones that Severus had been giving her nearly all year. Why Lily was suddenly trying to give her one was suspicious on its own to Iris. She knew to be careful with snakes like him. If Severus had been able to get to Lily, then Iris was going to have a fun time cursing the boy into next week.
"Where did you get that, Lily?"
Lily could instantly hear the skepticism in Iris' voice. It honestly wasn't going to help that Iris was reluctant to take any sort of perfume that was given to her. She suspected that every perfume was evil, mainly because of Severus. This silly quarrel was just causing the most absurd assumptions to be made, in Lily's opinion. What could a simple perfume do?
"Hogsmeade!" She lied smoothly. She could only thank Iris for her knack of lying so quickly, they do learn a few things from each other every once and a while. "I got it last weekend and I tried it out. I don't really like it that much, but I think that you will!" Her over-enthusiasm may be throwing up some red flags for Iris, Lily realized. However, she did her best to try and seem casual under her sister's narrow-eyed gaze.
"Really?" Iris tsked, "where in Hogsmeade?"
"Madam Puddifoot sells more than just tea and such."
Iris pursed her lips and turned her gaze towards the bottle. It did look like the ones that Severus' had been giving her, and she was completely uncertain if she could trust Lily at this moment. She knew that Lily was less aggravated with Severus than herself and that she wanted to make things right between them. Yes, Iris wanted to do the same, however, the perfumes added something completely different into the mix. She didn't know what they did, yet she knew that there was something weird with them. Of course, she didn't have any proof of that, but she had a very strong hunch about them.
"Oh?" Iris scoffed.
Lily sighed and exclaimed in exasperation., "I don't see why you don't believe me!" She allowed her eyes to display a small lick of betrayal. If she did that then Iris would start to feel bad about accusing her or insinuating that Lily was lying to her. Granted, Lily technically was lying to her, but she could just use that to her advantage.
Iris' narrowed brown eyes surveyed her sister and zeroed in on the perfume in her hand. She took a deep breath, "you got it from Hogsmeade? Not from Severus, right?"
"Of course, I know you don't like Severus right now! I wouldn't do that to you!" Oh, she was lying through her perfect white teeth.
Her nearly identical sister hesitantly took the bottle from her, and Lily couldn't help herself but smile widely at her. It seemed like her scheme to get Iris to take the bottle had worked perfectly. "I'll take it, but if I find out that this has anything to do with Severus-"
"You'll hex not only me but him as well, you have nothing to worry about!" She was just about bouncing on her heels. "Why don't you use it now?"
Iris' eyebrows furrowed as she grew suspicious of her enthusiastic words, but she brushed it off for the moment. "And why would I use it now?"
"I'm sure Sirius would love for you to use a perfume like this."
"Why do you- never mind, I don't care why you want me to wear it for Sirius." She took an apprehensive look at the bottle and a glance at Lily. Her twin was smiling encouragingly, and Iris couldn't help herself but believe that Lily was telling the truth. The girls ever rarely lied to each other. If Lily did lie, then Iris would dish her out a punishment. However, Lily was the less likely out of the two to actually lie especially to her. She could trust her sister. "Whatever…" She opened up the top of the bottle and started to spray it onto her pale neck.
Lily just about squealed out loud at that but was able to keep it in. She could only hope that Iris would love the perfume and then later she could tell her the truth. Yes, lying to her did hurt Luly just a bit, but she could live with herself for the moment.
Iris took a deep breath in order to smell the perfume… but she couldn't smell anything. It was strange, there was no scent from the actual perfume. She sprayed it on herself once again to hopefully smell something only to earn the same result.
She looked at Lily, "I don't-"
"Oh, that smells lovely," Marlene commented as she took the bottle from Iris to examine it. "Next time we go to Madam Puddifoot's, Lily, you have to show me where you bought it!"
Lily nodded her head, "no worry, I will. Now, don't we have a quidditch match to get to." She then spun on her heels in an obvious scene of glee and headed for the exit. The other two followed after her as Iris tucked the perfume into her pocket and got ready for the match. However, her eyes twitched slightly as a sharp pain suddenly hit her in the back of her head. She brushed it off. There was something far more important to focus on, quidditch!
---
The trio of girls was rushing through the corridors to head to the pitch outside. The game was no doubt about to start, and Iris was cursing Marlene's inability to remember grabbing the flag before. Honestly, if it wasn't for Marlene, Iris was certain that she would be cheering on Gryffindor as the teams finished up their short before game practice or joking around with Remus and Peter.
She really couldn't wait to actually see the game. She had seen only a few matches due to her detentions over all of the weekends that the matches happened. Thank Merlin that Iris refrained herself from pulling any pranks that would have drawn the attention of a teacher.
Just as the girls were rounding a corner that would lead towards the entrance of the pitch, they came face to face with a bleach-blonde snake.
Iris scowled as she ran smack dab in the middle of Lucius' chest. The slimy teenager smirked down at the redhead that shouted in disgust and jumped away from him hastily. "Lucius!" She shouted with so much malice dripping from her voice like venom.
"Ah, if it isn't our favorite redhead." His smirk sent a wave of nausea through Iris' stomach. Even more so, her head was killing her! She took sharp deep breaths to control herself. "My, don't you smell wonderful, Iris."
She just wanted to puke all over that moronic Slytherin, and she just might with how her stomach felt and her head was swimming as she stood there trying to glare the best she could at him. "Oh, leave us be Malfoy!"
The two of them stared at each other intently as icy, dull blue eyes searched inside of hazy, enraged brown eyes. It only lasted for a moment when Marlene pulled Iris away from Lucius and placed herself in between the two along with Lily.
"Leave us alone, Lucius! Don't you have something else to do?" Lily asked with a grimace.
Lucius seemed to become irritated and angered as he glared at Marlene. Neither of the girls could tell if he was angered because they had pulled Iris away or for some other reason. Though it wasn't like they cared, at all.
"Come on, let's go," Marlene said as she pushed Lucius away and to the side. He allowed himself to be pushed away as the trio walked past him with scowls. However, Iris' scowl was slightly strained as her body just seemed to have suddenly become sick!
He watched them go and cursed, "I'm going to kill that half-blood." He spun on his perfectly polished dress shoes and marched away in order to find his partners in crime. Well, one was his partner the other was more of his slave than anything.
Iris groaned as she was lead away by her sister and friend. Marlene took a glance at her and instantly became concerned from the way that Iris had become so pale since they had left the dorms. It was quite unsettling.
"You alright, Iris?" Marlene asked but didn't pause in their walking.
Iris took a deep breath and smiled, "perfectly fine and ready for the quidditch match!" She cheered with the most convincing voice that she could. It seemed to work when Marlene nodded and focused back onto the top of the game. Each of them seemed to want to forget that they had even run into Lucius only a few moments. Marlene instantly started to babble about William and getting to see him to play while Lily listened to her quick and excitement-filled words.
Iris did her best to try and focus on the conversation, that was really just Marlene ranting about the boy, yet had a hard time doing it. Her stomach had settled down slightly as her head was a tad bit clearer before but there was still some terrible feeling that settled in her body. Perhaps seeing Lucius' disgusting face had made her sudden sickness worse, and now that he was gone, she was starting to feel better. That's all it was. It was Lucius' fault.
---
The loud crowd of students and faculty all shouted and cheered as the quidditch match went on. It had been nearly forty minutes of gameplay and Ravenclaw was currently in the lead with one hundred and thirty points and Gryffindor only had seventy points. Currently, Sirius, a Gryffindor beater, was batting away a bludger as it was aimed at one of the team's chasers and James was frantically searching for the snitch.
It always amazed Iris how seekers, like James, were able to even see the snitch. That bloody little thing moved way too fast for her eyes to even focus on it properly. It really was only a quick glint of gold when the light caught it, at least to Iris. However, Gryffindor really needed to catch it before Ravenclaw. They were behind in points by quite a lot and there was no doubt that Ravenclaw would take a large lead over them. At that point, it wouldn't matter if James caught the snitch!
That was probably why Iris was fiddling with the scarf around her neck in anxiety. Oh, she was really into this game! She usually got like this, especially whenever she listened to the matches involving the Chudley Cannons.
"Come on, James!" Iris shouted along with her peers around her, "find that bloody snitch!"
Marlene cheered when William stopped the quaffle from going into his team's goal. That act earned her a few glares from her fellow Gryffindors. "Yes! William! Woo!"
Wendy nudged her friend, "hey! You have to support your own house, don't you know."
The brunette just rolled her eyes, "Oh, shush."
"Even Lil is cheering on our team." Iris pointed to her sister on the other side of Marlene who was clapping along with a chant that had started up.
"Gryffindor! Gryffindor! Gryffindor!"
Iris turned to Remus, who was on her left side, and Peter, who was beside him, with a large excited smile. "Do you think that they'll win this one?"
Remus shrugged his shoulders but didn't let his smile slip, "not sure, but there's no doubt that they'll go down without a fight." Iris could agree with that. There was no way that the team, or Sirius and James for that matter, would go down quietly.
The teams continued to battle with each other. The chasers fought with each other, the beaters protected them and aimed the bludger at the opposing team, and the seekers kept their eyes alert for the snitch. There were so much anxiety and suspense hanging in the air that Iris was certain that she was suffocating in it. Then again, that may just be her head messing with her again. Yes, her headache hadn't gone away, and, honestly, she didn't think that it would have.
Everyone held their breath as James zoomed off in one direction, most likely after the snitch. The Ravenclaw seeker followed after him to hopefully get a glimpse of the snitch but it seemed to be too late. James shouted in triumph as he slowed down on his broom and held the snitch up in victory. Gryffindor had now won with a score of two hundred and twenty!
Every single person that was rooting for the team was on their feet shouting and celebrating. That included the quartet of girls who cheered loudly and allowed their voices to blend in with the collection of their peers. Of course, the Ravenclaws looked a bit put out at a loss, but it wasn't the end of the world. If Gryffindor had lost, there was no doubt that they would be sore losers. Slytherin and Gryffindor were the biggest competitors when it came to quidditch matches throughout the year.
They watched as the Gryffindor team all flew to the pitch and started to congratulate each other on the win. That's when the students started to spill onto the field as well. They rushed to the team members and bombarded them with pats on the backs and hugs. Iris happened to throw herself onto James and Sirius when she was able to get close enough to congratulate them. Marlene and Wendy did the same, but Lily didn't. She settled with a simple pat on the back for both of them. Of course, Remus and Peter congratulated them happily as well after Iris had let go of them from her bone-crushing hug.
Everyone was high with the victory and ready to head to the common room to celebrate properly. However, as everyone started to make their way towards the castle, Iris noticed that something was missing from her neck.
"My scarf!" She shouted and glanced around in order to find it.
Sirius turned to her when he noticed that she lagged behind, "come on, love. We've got to head to the common room."
Iris turned to him with wide eyes, "I lost my scarf. I must've left it in the stands by accident." Sirius raised his eyebrows. It was just a scarf, as far as he knew she could get a new one. "My mum made it for me last year, I can't lose it."
That made sense. Sirius nodded his head in understanding, "I'll help you go find it."
The redhead just smiled at him, "no, it's fine, I can get it myself. You've got to get to the party that is no doubt going to start."
"Let them start partying, I just want to make sure that you find your scarf."
The sweet gesture brought a soft pink glow onto Iris' cheeks, "darling, I can find my scarf myself." She wrapped her arms around his neck when he was close enough and smirk, "I'll be there in just a bit, alright?"
Sirius stared at her and fought within himself. He didn't want to leave her alone for too long. Considering neither he or anyone else would be going with her. He didn't want her to be alone, at all! What if those slimy snakes were somewhere, lurking and waiting for her?
"I'll be fine," Iris pecked his lips and smirked at the dazed look on his face as he broke out of his thoughts. "Just a minute."
Sirius cleared his throat, "okay, I'll meet you in the common room then."
Iris giggled and kissed him once more, "be back in a minute."
Sirius watched as she skipped away to find her scarf. If only he had noticed the pair of beady eyes watching them part. If only he had gone against her words and went with his gut to go with her. If he did… Things certainly have turned out different.
---
Iris made her way towards the stairs that lead up to the stands that were high in the sky. She was just about ready to step up the first step when a voice caused her to stop dead in her tracks. "Iris?"
The voice was timid and not confident whatsoever. It was a voice that Iris was completely familiar with as she had been hearing ever since she was ten-years-old. A scowl placed itself on her face as she took a breath to control herself. The headache was slowly coming back as she turned around to glare at the boy obviously following her.
She could see in the shadows of the stands that Severus Snape was fiddling with his hands and the end of his black jumper. He kept his head bowed and didn't look in her direction at all. He looked like he wanted to be swallowed up in the darkness and disappear from standing in front of her. He blocked the entrance of the stairs, but Iris was certain that she could push past him to get out. It wasn't like Severus was capable of stopping her. He was pretty weak. Pathetic.
"What do you want, Severus?" Iris growled, "I thought I said to not talk to me."
Severus nodded his head meekly but didn't look up to her. Iris wasn't sure if it was in shame or fear, but she didn't care. All she wanted to do now was find her scarf and march herself out of his presence. Though before he could respond or she can walk away, a set of footsteps stopped either of them from doing anything. The two of them looked up the creaky, wooden stairs to see a silhouette coming down them. Iris was able to catch a glimpse of her scarf held snuggly in the figure's hands.
For a moment, she was quite relieved to see that someone had found her scarf. However, as soon as the person standing in the light, Iris just about screamed.
Gelled, short black hair shimmered in the sunlight while cruel grey eyes were exposed to the pair at the bottom of the stairs. His large smirk churned Iris' insides as her body started to become sick once again.
The redhead hissed loudly at him in complete hatred. "Regulus."
The younger boy just stared her in the eye triumphantly. It was as if he had just won the lottery from the way that he was confidently strutting down the stairs to stand in front of her and Severus. She didn't even turn around to see that Severus was completely pale with his head bowed in nothing but shame.
Regulus clicked his tongue, "you sound unhappy to see me, Iris."
The girl shivered in disgust at the way that he said her name and bile to rise up in the back of her throat. Or was that just her stomach acting up again. Being around Regulus, Lucius and Severus were certainly not doing anything good for her health… she could only wonder why.
She coughed in order to stop herself from throwing up right there. She ran a hand through her hair and noticed that they were shaking. In fact, her entire body was slowly starting to shake. Her nose began to be clogged up with a smell that she could not identify but she found so enticing. Perhaps she could finally smell the perfume but why was she able to smell it now.
She tried to keep her appearance strong and confident as she was under his intense stare. He seemed to be far more self-assured about something that she had no clue about. She only kept herself glaring at him. However, as he descended the stairs and came to stand right in front of her, she found her senses completely dulled as she focused on the boy in front of her.
"Just give me my scarf…" She tried to keep her voice strong, but it was slowly losing its edge and disgust aimed towards him. It was becoming softer with every word that she said.
The boy's smirk only seemed to grow wider and Iris thought that his face was about to split in half. "Oh," he looked down at the purple fabric in thought, "this? This is yours?"
Iris could only find herself nodding in reply as her legs began to shake. Her eyes were glued to Regulus' face as he turned back to her. He looked back up to her and locked eyes with her. The black-haired boy stepped closer to her and Iris did her best to take at least one step back. It seemed to take everything in her power to take that single step back. There was a part of her that didn't want to move, and that completely terrified her. It was like there was an internal fight within herself about whether or not Regulus was disgusting.
What in Merlin's name is going on?!
Regulus only continued his forward stalk and came to stand so close that Iris could smell his horrid cologne. He didn't tower over her as he was younger than her and they were just about the same height. However, she was slowly becoming intimidated by him as he leered at her through his dark lashes.
"Yes…" She breathed out as they had yet to break their stares. "Now… give it to me…" She reached out to grab it from him only for him to grab her wrist and halt her. Iris didn't fight back. She couldn't. She honestly couldn't find herself fighting against him.
"I'll give it to you, but I want a reward for finding it."
Iris' mind was completely blank. It was as if she forgot who exactly she was talking to. "What do you want?" This wasn't Iris! She lost all her confidence, disgust and hatred that she held only a few moments ago. Instead, she had transformed into a shaking, quiet, insecure girl who trembled under the stare of the boy she loathed the most. Though at that moment it was as if she forgot that Regulus Black was the boy who had become like a plague to her throughout the year.
Severus only watched from the archway of the staircase. His eyes were filled with regret and self-hatred. Oh, he hated himself at that moment so much. In fact, he had been hating himself ever since the other Slytherin boys had first told him what to do. If only he was stronger! If only he could stand up for himself and his friends then maybe this wouldn't have happened. But that was the past. Now, he had to watch as his pseudo-sister changed completely because of his own concoction. He had screwed up completely and ruined any chance he had fixing their relationship the moment he took them up on their demands.
Regulus leaned towards her, "what does every boy want?" He stopped himself from chuckling out loud as he watched to girl's eyes become lidded and in a trance. She was right where he wanted her. He had finally achieved his goal. "A kiss from a beautiful girl like you."
Iris couldn't say anything. Her mind was fuzzy, her eyes were solely focused on Regulus, and her entire body was on the verge of collapse. "...Really?"
Regulus didn't answer. He only ducked his head down and pulled the dazed girl into a kiss. It wasn't heated like the ones that his brother was able to dish out to the many girls he had seduced. Though it wasn't a simple kiss either. It seemed that, just like Sirius, Regulus had some experience with girls.
Iris was rigid and didn't know what to do. There was a part of her that was screaming so loud. The deafening scream was rattling in the back of her head and begging to push the boy away. However, ever so slowly, it was being silenced and pushed away itself. Soon enough it was locked away like an animal as new thoughts swarmed her head. Thoughts that weren't her own.
Regulus dropped Iris' scarf and wrapped his arms around Iris' waist to draw her in closer. Iris, completely under his control, submitted to the kiss and wrapped her arms around his neck and indulge herself in the kiss.
They then pulled away and Regulus stared at the girl who still had her eyes closed and completely breathless. It was done. He got what he wanted. Iris opened up her eyes once again and they had completely lost their spark and were now dull and submissive. There was no way that Iris would fight against him and that was marvelous. Sure, the potion didn't work with Lucius. Perhaps it just needed a far more superior wizard to activate it on her. Maybe her hatred for him had fueled it far more than it did with Lucius. Regulus didn't care. All that he did care about was that it worked, and he could only thank their trusty potion maker for that.
He glanced at Severus with a wide smirk. Said boy looked sick and ready to throw up. He wrapped his arm around Iris' shoulder and started to lead her towards the exit. Severus moved out of the way and stared at them mournfully. "See you later, Severus."
He shivered at his words as Regulus walked off with Iris plastered to his side. It made him sick to watch a snake like him walk off with his best friend in his arms. As much as he didn't like it, Severus would much rather see her in Sirius' arms then his younger brother. At least then he would know that Sirius wasn't going to hurt her.He turned back to the fallen scarf and hurried over to it. He picked it up and brushed off the grass and dirt that had gotten onto it. He recognized the scarf. In fact, he had one of his own as Mrs. Evans had made him, Iris and Lily for last Christmas. He held the scarf sightly and remorsefully teared up. He ruined everything! Iris was in danger and he just let it happen. It's all his fault! His fault!

hello lovely liv!
i have to admit push and pull you down by mostlyvoid has me on a chokehold like no other, i'm obsessed with the dynamic between h&d and now am wondering if you know any other fics with a harry thats not content with his life meeting a draco who is showing him a different (like morally ambiguous) side of life? or do you have any rec lists already? i'm not even sure what bullet points to look for i'd appreciate your help :)
*elmo fire gif* love love love that fic! It’s short but super intense and the dynamics, dialogue and characterization are perfectly executed by @bonesliketambourines 🤌🏼 I don’t know any similar fics with those specific vibes but I think you might enjoy these. They play with jaded!Harry and morally ambiguous!Draco in different ways, some are darker than others but the Drarry dynamics are equally delicious. Enjoy!
Second Chance by @shealwaysreads (G, 2k)
Harry and Draco spent one long, perfect year together after the war, then the Ministry came calling. Three years later Harry finds his way to Draco’s door.
A Cold Spot in Hell by @drarrytrash (E, 8k)
When there’s nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire. If you wanted 8k of sexy arson, emotionally difficult arson, general arson, handkerchiefs, dread, and poetry curation, now is really your moment.
Clear As Mud by scoradh (M, 10k)
Set post-war and post-Harry's-conscience...
Two Zinnias and the Scent of Lemon by @the-starryknight (M, 16k)
The Ministry didn’t turn bad overnight. Harry didn’t suddenly turn rogue either. Between covert Legilimency links and Polyjuice disguises and running and running and running, Draco has forgotten what it is like to have a safe harbor that isn’t a person. If there’s an art to fighting back, then they’ll find it hand in hand.
Unfinished Business by cupiscent (E, 20k)
Ten years after the War ends, Harry and Draco still haven't got their act together. But maybe it's not too late.
Sun Thief by @floydig, BlackRose532 (E, 28k)
It’s 2005, and Draco Malfoy says, “Fuck the Ministry,” Harry works as a handyman in muggle London, and Draco should really stop pissing off the Squib gangs. Or: Harry beats up a pimp and isn’t sorry about it, Draco deals black market potions, and they’re shagging. Again.
The Laws of Gravity by @lettersbyelise (E, 31k)
When he runs into Draco Malfoy picking pockets at a charity gala, Harry Potter is forced to face the desires he’s avoided for years — at the risk of shattering the public image he’s so carefully curated since the war.
Dreaming Darkly by @quicksilvermaid (E, 40k)
It's five years after the war, and Harry is not okay. He hates his job. He hates Robards. He hates Ron's promotions and Hermione's concern. He chases oblivion in booze and weed and quick dirty fucks, but it's never enough. Then Draco Malfoy's face comes up on the case board as a murder suspect and Harry is thrown into an investigation that will take him to dark and dangerous places.
The Beauty of Thestrals and Other Unseen Things by @writcraft (E, 63k) - Draco’s not morally ambiguous here, just unapologetically queer 🌈
Harry has terrific friends, an amazing girlfriend and his job as Head Auror enables him to work on challenging cases and Ministry reform. He just wishes he could work out why he’s been so out of sorts.
A Pocket Full of Stones by waterwings (E, 68k)
A curse is spreading through the wizarding world, erasing memories of the war. Harry Potter is on the case! Where Draco is the DMLE’s most wanted dark wizard and Harry is the private investigator tasked with bringing him in. It goes as well as one might expect.
Criminal by @the-sinking-ship (E, 83k)
Things were going just fine for Draco Malfoy. He successfully conned and counted cards across Europe and America, amassing a small fortune, along with a lengthy rap sheet. That was until he made the grave mistake of returning to England for a high stakes card game and got himself caught – by Harry Potter no less.

Saudade - Risk
Chapter Update! FFN and AO3
The lovely @marlmckitten made a picture post with some dialogue that I loved and decided needed a story. Enjoy!
Risk
"Sirius, are you ready?" Marlene called from the kitchen as she put the final touches on the cake she'd volunteered to bring.
"I've been ready for the last hour, Marly." Sirius' voice rang out from the sitting room.
Marlene sighed. He'd taken James and Lily's honeymoon phase a bit hard, especially when Mia and Monty had passed away just three weeks after their wedding. He'd been understanding for the first month, excusing James' behavior for how he was handling his grief, but three months into James and Lily being husband and wife, Sirius was starting to get antsy. So Marlene had suggested to Lily that the two couples have dinner together and, just as Marlene had expected, Lily threw herself into the idea of throwing a dinner party for them.
Marlene wiped off her hands and flicked her wand at the cake. It wrapped itself up in its box before following her into the sitting room.
"Well, the cake's ready now too so let's go."
Sirius grunted. She knew he was both looking forward to seeing James outside of Order business again but that he was hurt it had taken Marlene scheduling them in with Lily for it to happen.
"He's still your brother," Marlene kissed him, "he's just a bit distracted."
Sirius huffed but nodded and stepped with her to the door. They popped to the Potter's back garden and Marlene smiled when she heard James shout.
She sidestepped him just in time to let James crash into Sirius.
"Bollocks, Prongs," Sirius barely kept them upright.
"I'm just happy to see you!" James held on to him and Marlene smiled encouragingly at Sirius.
James and Sirius only had each other now as far as the Potter family went. She and Lily were doing their best, but nothing would change that these men no longer had their parents. Marlene pulled the cake along as she stepped into the little cottage that James and Lily now occupied.
"Honey, I'm home," Marlene grinned at Lily as she set the cake on the counter.
Lily responded by throwing herself at Marlene with slightly less force than James had thrown himself at Sirius.
"I'm so happy you suggested we have a little dinner party!"
Marlene chuckled, "James is rubbing off on you. You never would have done this back at school."
Lily rolled her eyes, "I was far too concerned about what everyone thought of me to be able to have fun. I know you love me so you get no filter."
"And I love you enough to work too," Marlene winked at her, "How can I help?"
Lily set Marlene to chopping and Marlene positioned herself to be able to see James and Sirius in the back garden.
"How's James been with everything?"
Lily sighed, "It comes in waves now. He'll be alright for a few days and then something will set him off and his grief overtakes him. He's handling it different than I did, so I'm never quite sure how to help."
Marlene sighed, she was the only one of the four of them with living parents now.
"Sirius is still fighting the urge to bottle it all up and pretend it doesn't bother him. I swear Lily if I could go back and kill Walburga and Orion right after they had Regulus I probably would."
Lily put a hand on her shoulder, "You've helped him so much, Mar, don't discount how far Sirius has come. Mia once told me that between you and her, Sirius would grow into a pretty amazing man."
Marlene swallowed hard and nodded, but she pushed away the melancholy when Sirius and James walked back in.
She was happy to see Sirius smiling. Whatever James had said out there seemed to have done the trick.
"Just you wait, Lily got some of her Muggle board games out and we're going to try those out. Their games seem much calmer than all of ours."
Marlene chuckled, "My dad says Muggles don't seem to get the same excitement out of their games exploding as Wizards do."
The only way Marlene could describe the rest of the evening was relaxing. They didn't talk about the war, they didn't talk about the Order, they ate dinner and laughed and then enjoyed Marlene's cake as they all argued about who would keep the leftovers.
The first game Lily pulled out had a floor mat with large red, green, yellow, and blue dots on it and a spinner. The four of them ended up twisted around each other and Sirius wasted no time in cheating by deliberately wrapping around Marlene in ways that were entirely unnecessary and mildly inappropriate for company.
Lily put an end to the game when Sirius had somehow managed to get himself over Marlene and then proceeded to start kissing her neck.
They played a game where they had to look for clues and determine what character had committed a murder and how they'd done it - the Muggle way of course, as James pointed out. Sirius won, but James insisted that he only won because Marlene showed him her hand of cards. Marlene just rolled her eyes; she wasn't sure who was more dramatic between the two brothers if anything they escalated each other.
And then James pulled a box from Lily's stack that started, or perhaps ended, everything.
"What's this one, Lil?"
"Oh, that one is a strategy game. It was made based off of World War II but you're basically trying to get your army to occupy every continent and complete a secret mission at the same time." Lily hesitated, "It can take a long time to play, love, maybe pick a different one."
"We don't have to finish the game, Lils, let's give her a go." James started pulling everything out of the box.
"Yeah, I want to crush James' armies," Sirius laughed.
"Let's play teams then," Lily started setting up the board on the floor between them. "It'll go faster that way."
"Couples it is then," Sirius grinned down at Marlene. "We fight together!"
Marlene laughed and pushed away the anxiety that tried to surface. They really did fight together, frequently back to back as spells sizzled in the air around them, on more occasions than she ever wanted to try and count.
Lily hadn't been joking, the game went on forever, but James and Sirius were determined to beat each other.
"Wake me up when you need me," Marlene yawned against Sirius.
He'd long since taken over the strategy, whispering his ideas to her as he worked it all out in his head. Marlene had been into it at first, trying to figure out what James and Lily would do next, but after three hours she was tired and ready to sleep.
"Here," Lily flicked her wand and from down the hall came a stack of blankets and pillows. "We might as well be comfortable while they finish up."
Marlene sighed happily as she wrapped herself in the warm blanket, "Merlin, Lily, I love you!"
Marlene dozed off next to Sirius, smiling when Lily mirrored her position. This was what they were living for, fighting for, to be able to lay on the floor and play a board game about a war that didn't bring the cost of life into it, to have dinner parties, to be young and in love, to be happy.
Marlene slipped into sleep with a smile on her face.
She awoke at some point to the loudest whispers she'd ever heard.
"Aren't they adorable?"
Marlene shut her eyes tighter, hoping to tune out Lily's voice.
"Let's go upstairs before they wake up."
Somehow James managed to be even louder than Lily.
"Marlene can sleep through anything." Lily scoffed at her husband.
Marlene almost growled. She most certainly did not sleep through anything.
"Well, Sirius wakes up at the drop of a pin."
Marlene felt Sirius tense behind her and realized he'd wrapped himself around her under the blanket at some point.
Fine, so maybe she did sleep through some things...
"Yeah, so? Marlene is the scary one in the mornings."
Oh-ho! So Lily thought Marlene was scary in the morning, wait till she saw her right now!
Sirius pushed up behind her before she could act on her homicidal notions.
"I swear to both of you, if you don't bugger off, I will wake her up and say it was your fault!"
"Fine, calm down we'll go up to our room." Lily laughed quietly.
"I wonder what their kids will look like." James snickered just a bit louder.
"Bugger off, Prongs, and get some sleep because you're feeding us breakfast now too."
Marlene didn't hear James response, she was too busy spinning around in Sirius' arms.
"Merlin, I love you." She whispered into his chest.
Sirius squeezed her, "I love you too."
His hands began to wander under her shirt and Marlene sighed happily.
"And I believe I should properly thank you for showing me your cards when we played that mystery game.
Marlene finally opened her eyes, ice blue meeting stormy gray, "I could definitely be persuaded in that direction."
Sirius hoisted her up to eye level with him a smirk plastered across his face.
"Happy to oblige madam," and proceeded to kiss her neck.

Draco hated Potter’s friends. He, in fact, loathed them with every fibre of his being.
“He’s cheating! I swear he’s cheating!” Weasley pointed aggressively at the board where Draco’s game piece had just knocked his off the board and sent it back to the starting area.
“It’s dice,” Draco said flatly, “They are, by design, random. I can’t control what I roll.”
“Bollocks! We’re wizards!” Weasley said, throwing up his hands.
Draco showed both his empty hands.
“You charmed them before we got here!” Weasley said.
“He didn’t pick the game,” Potter said, “I did. So hand over the dice.”
“Not until they’re checked for magic,” Weasley said.
“Are you a curse breaker now?” Draco said sarcastically.
“Hah!” Weasley pointed an accusing finger at Draco, “It’s a curse then! You admit it.”
Draco closed his eyes in dismay.
“He was being sarcastic, Ron,” Potter said, his impatience starting to show.
“See, if you had just allowed me to place a non-cheating charm over the board before we started, then none of this would have happened,” Granger said.
“Or you could just fucking trust Malfoy-” Potter started.
“Trust Malfoy?!” Weasley said.
“YES. He’s not going to cheat over a stupid board game, Ron,” Potter said sharply.
Granger looked incredulous.
“Yeah, right, he’s-”
“He wouldn’t,” Potter snapped, “That’s not- it’s- it’s just not something he would do. He’s petty but not in that way.”
“How sweet,” Draco muttered under his breath.
“Look,” Granger said, pulling out another game box, “we can use the dice from this set. That way, you’ll know they’re not tampered with.”
Weasley narrowed his eyes. “Only if Malfoy gives up his wand, otherwise-”
Draco froze.
“No,” Potter interrupted before it could go any further. “Just play with the new dice and stop being a prick.”
Draco breathed out. And for just a second, he felt Potter’s hand on his arm, a brief reassuring touch.
“Fine,” Weasley muttered as Granger took the new dice and passed them to Potter.
When it finally came around to Draco’s turn, he rolled his dice and, instead of moving his last piece into the home spot where he could have probably won in the next couple of turns, he moved past it so he’d have to make whole nother round of the board before he could be safe. “There. Happy?” He said to Weasley pointedly.
Weasley glared at the board, “Are you fucking-”
“That’s the kind of petty he is,” Potter sighed. He grabbed the dice and handed them to Weasley, “Go.”
Weasley’s mouth hung open, “You’re just going to let him-”
“He can do what he likes,” Granger said.
“Yeah, but it’s not fair! If I’m going to win, I want it to be fair and square! Not like- like this!” Weasley gestured to the board.
“I would have beat you before that,” Granger said. “You still have two pieces in the starting zone-”
“Which is his fault!” Weasley said.
“I was just playing the game. That’s how it works. I read through the rule pamphlet quite thoroughly,” Draco said.
“You just had bad luck,” Granger said.
“I’m the one who had bad luck,” Draco said, standing up from the couch.
“Where are you going?” Weasley demanded.
“Kitchen. Obviously,” Draco said as he walked the ten feet to the small kitchen. “Just play without me.”
Potter stood up and followed him, “Are you sure? You don’t have to leave. Ron’s just being difficult.”
Draco snorted, “Understatement of the century.”
“Once he gets to know you a bit, he’ll relax,” Potter said.
“And I’m tired of waiting for him to unclench,” Draco said, “Finish the game; it’ll be easier without me there.”
“Malfoy-”
“Besides,” Draco smirked, “We all know I would have won. That’s not going to change just because I left.”
Potter sighed.
“He started it,” Draco said.
“He did,” Potter agreed in the way a parent of two squabble children who knows it’s only a matter of time before the roles are reversed.
In the few seconds they had been gone, it seemed like Weasley was working himself up into another strop. Potter hurried back to the living area before the game board was flipped off the coffee table.
Draco sat on the countertop, picking up a meat pasty from the plate Weasley had brought along as his contribution to game night. They were almost unfairly good, better than anything he’d had from a shop. Apparently, his mum had made them.
There was a faint pop of apparition, followed by Luna Lovegood stepping out of Potter's bedroom. Her hair was in a wavy half-curled state, and she was wearing an almost painfully cheerful yellow sundress that matched the small lemon earring hanging from her ears.
After exuberantly greeting the golden trio and chatting with them for a bit, Draco was surprised when Lovegood came to join him in the kitchen.
She hopped up beside Draco on the counter on the other side of the meat pasty plate, “Are these from Molly?”
Draco nodded.
“She’s so good at them, isn’t she?” Lovegood said.
“...yes,” Draco said uncertainly.
Lovegood nibbled at the pasty crust, pausing to wipe crumbs off her dress. “Am I bothering you?”
“No,” Draco said, “Not in the slightest.”
She stared at him, her eyes far too intense for their pale blue-ness.
“...I was more worried that I was bothering you,” Draco said.
Lovegood shook her head, “I’ve been wanting to talk to you, you know.”
“You have?”
“Yes. I looked for you a bit after the war, but it seemed as if you had vanished into thin air. Poof,” Lovegood made a poofing motion with her hand.
“I was here. In London,” Draco said, “Just on the muggle side.”
“Oh,” Lovegood said. She took another bite of pasty and chewed it thoughtfully. “...It is remarkable how very big the muggle world is, isn’t it? I could search most of the wizarding places in the UK in a day. Well, perhaps in a day, if I was determined. But I could spend years just searching London and never find someone, especially if they were determined not to be found.”
Draco nodded. He added, a bit carefully, “It scared me at first, how big it was and how many people there were.”
Lovegood nodded, “It gives me a headache.”
“It does?”
“Not right away,” Lovegood said, “There is just so much that after a while my head feels as if it might explode.”
“Ah,” Draco said as if he understood. “...Why did you want to talk to me?”
“Oh! Right,” Lovegood smiled brightly. “My mind healer recommended it. He said I was holding onto unresolved trauma from what happened during the war in your house.”
“Understandably,” Draco said.
“I think he was right. But I don’t think you were to blame,” Lovegood said.
“You don’t?” Draco said.
Lovegood shook her head, “I mean, I don’t think Humbert thought you were either-”
“Humbert?”
“My mind healer,” Lovegood said, “But I was very upset about it all, and I wanted it to be your fault. It was easier when I could blame you.”
Draco’s eyes widened in dismay, “But it was my fault. You were in my house. You-”
“Did you put me there?” Lovegood asked.
Before Draco could answer, she continued.
“Deatheaters caught me. Voldemort had me put there. And it was your parent’s home.” Lovegood ticked off each point on her fingers before popping the last bite of meat pasty into her mouth. “I think it was easy to be angry with you because you brought our food, so I saw you the most.”
“I should have-” Draco hesitated, “I should have done more.”
Lovegood laughed, “I think you’re comparing yourself to Harry too much.”
Draco’s brow furrowed.
“When you compare yourself to Harry, everything you did wasn’t enough, I think. You want to be as brave as him, and when you can’t, it feels like you’ve done it wrong,” Lovegood said.
“Oh, who cares what scarhead would do.” Draco’s expression slipped into a glower, “That’s right, I do know. He’d rush in and save everyone and then rush off again.”
Lovegood smiled, “He’s very brave like that, but we can’t all be Harry, can we?”
“I should hope the fuck not,” Draco said.
Lovegood laughed, a light tinkling sound that reminded Draco of wind chimes. When she caught her breath, she said, “Are you in therapy too?”
Draco blinked in confusion.
“Oh, because you’re taking all this so well, and I felt like you understood,” Lovegood said. “Humbert does say that I jump ahead in conversations, and it can be hard to follow my line of thinking, so sometimes I ought to go back and explain how I got there.”
Draco nodded, “That did help.”
“So are you?” Lovegood asked.
“Am I-?”
“In therapy?” Lovegood asked.
Draco nodded reluctantly, “Group therapy. I haven’t been going long.”
“It’s helpful, though, isn’t it?” Lovegood said.
“Yes?”
“It’s been enormously helpful for me. I’ve been trying to convince some of the others to do something like it, but they think it’s silly,” Lovegood said. “I wonder sometimes if just because it’s me saying it. But I can’t help but be myself, can I?”
“No. I quite often have that problem myself,” Draco said.
Lovegood nodded solemnly. “It’s quite terrible when you want nothing more than to be listened to, but they can’t hear you over the you that you are.”
Draco stared at her.
Lovegood shrugged.
“No, there’s something profound in that. It’s just- it takes a moment to think through,” Draco said.
Lovegood smiled, “Thank you.”
“For what?” Draco asked.
“For taking the time to think it through,” Lovegood said.

Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy visit a Seer to pick a date for their wedding. They end up playing a magical version of Scrabble.

When Harry first expressed his intention to marry Draco, he had expected Narcissa to give a long list of tasks he’d have to undertake. After all, he knew little about traditional pure-blood families like the Malfoys. Demanding the pursuer of the only heir to perform herculean tasks wouldn’t be far-fetched at all.
But Narcissa required no such thing from Harry. She only asked him and Draco to visit a Seer to pick an auspicious date for their wedding ceremony.
So that was how they ended up in a secluded divination shop, hidden away beneath a board game store in Diagon Alley. They had rushed here right after work; Harry was relieved when he found the shop’s door open and the lights switched on. As they ventured inside the shop and searched for someone to help them, Harry detected a peculiar scent, but he couldn’t quite put a finger on it.
“Resin and squid ink,” said Draco. He hadn’t left Harry’s side since they arrived. Harry also noticed Draco hadn’t touched anything inside the shop. “That’s what’s causing the odour.”
“It’s not that bad,” remarked Harry. “I’m actually relieved this is all your mother is making us do.”
“Disappointed you didn’t have to fight a giant serpent for my hand in marriage?” Draco chuckled.
“Well, no. I just didn’t know what to expect.”
“It’s common for pure-blood families to enlist the aid of a Seer in picking dates for important events.” Draco took Harry’s hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. “It means she approves of our relationship.”
For a moment, Harry let himself forget that he was in a strange, eerily empty shop and turned to look at Draco. “Thank you,” he said, “for agreeing to marry me.”
Draco’s cheeks turned pink before he swiftly looked away. “Let’s find the Seer.”
They split up and surveyed the shop. Harry didn’t visit divination shops often, but even he could tell that this place looked more like a library than a shop. The bookshelves were packed with tomes of various languages. Many of the books were dictionaries and encyclopedias, most from Muggle publishers. Harry wandered aimlessly until he reached a pair of dark maroon curtains, which he suspected led to a different part of the shop.
One of the curtains slid aside, and Draco poked his head through the gap. “Harry, come inside. I found the Seer.”
Harry followed Draco into a small room, easily the size of the Malfoys’ storage cabinet. The walls were entirely covered with satin and sheer fabric, the floor with lush rugs. A young woman wearing a loose dress and a headscarf sat cross-legged behind a large green counter, which reminded Harry of a casino table. This counter, however, was covered with intersecting black lines, creating hundreds of small squares on the surface.
The Seer placed her palms together and bowed at Harry, who awkwardly bowed back. He sat next to Draco on a cushion opposite the Seer.
“Your partner has explained to me the objective of your visit,” said the Seer. “Are you familiar with Scrabble, Mr Potter?”
“Scrabble?” he echoed incredulously. “I’ve played some in kindergarten, but I’m rubbish at it.”
“What do you know about the game?”
“You make words from letters on your deck.”
The Seer nodded. “That is adequate.”
“That’s more than I know,” commented Draco under his breath.
“Grammoarithmancy uses words and numbers to seek answers to your queries. As you’re aware, Mr Potter, in Scrabble, each tile has a certain point. When you use the tiles to create a word, you add up the points to get your score. So, let’s play a game.”
“Against you?” Harry asked with dread.
The Seer shook her head. “This is a game, not a contest.” She took out a pouch and, using her wand, levitated seven small Scrabble tiles to Harry, who found that the tiles were all blanks. “We will play seven rounds, seven tiles each. Since the purpose of this divination is to find an auspicious date for your union, you shall alternate the first six rounds, and I will conclude the game.”
“How do we start?” asked Draco, looking between the Seer and the seven tiles in Harry’s hands with increasing interest.
“We shall start with the subjects.” The Seer gestured at Harry and Draco. “The both of you.”
“A seven-letter word, is it?” Draco smirked. “Allow me, Harry.”
Harry gave Draco the tiles, which Draco quickly placed on the board in front of the Seer.
“Saviour,” said Draco proudly, glancing at Harry. “That’s you, of course.”
Like magic, bold letters appeared on the tiles: SAVIOUR.
“10 points,” said the Seer, nodding approvingly. Another seven tiles floated to Harry. “Your turn, Mr Potter. Who, or what, is Mr Malfoy?”
Harry stared at the word on the board. There was never a day when he wasn’t reminded of his past, of his role as the Saviour of the wizarding world. But coming from Draco, the word was never a burden or a poison. It was gratitude. Draco considered Harry his saviour.
“I can use an existing tile and all my seven tiles to make an eight-letter word, right?” asked Harry.
“Of course,” said the Seer.
Harry lined up his tiles vertically under the ‘R’ of SAVIOUR. “Redeemed,” he said, watching in amazement as the corresponding letters appeared on the tiles.
“12 points.” The Seer chuckled, sounding impressed. “And you claim to be rubbish at Scrabble.”
Harry looked at Draco, who appeared shocked. “The past is the past, Draco. Let’s create a new future together.”
Draco wiped his eyes and croaked, “What’s next?”
The Seer waved her hands. “Your purpose.”
Draco grabbed the new floating tiles and promptly used one of the ‘E’ from REDEEMED to spell out another eight-letter word. Once done placing the tiles, he sat back on his cushion and said, “Espousal," which was worth 10 points.
Harry used another ‘E’ in REDEEMED to spell ENDURING (10 points). “May our union be everlasting,” he said, making Draco blush.
“Next is what you are to each other,” said the Seer, making another set of seven tiles fly towards Draco.
Draco placed all his tiles above the ‘S’ in SAVIOUR. “Precious.”
“12 points. Your last move, Mr Potter.”
Draco’s word made Harry feel giddy, joy bubbling in his chest. Grinning, he used the ‘E’ in PRECIOUS and played ENDEARED.
Whimpering, Draco covered his pink face with both hands.
“10 points. Now, it’s my turn,” declared the Seer. Unlike Harry and Draco, who had played all their tiles at every round, she placed only three tiles around the ‘O’ in PRECIOUS. “Love. 7 points. Our total score is 71. Good job.”
“Now what?” asked Harry.
“Your auspicious date is somewhere between today and 71 weeks from today. The 8th day of a certain month. May I know your birthdates?”
When Harry told her their birthdates, a broad smile came upon the Seer’s lips.
“Destiny and Stars smile upon you,” she said, flicking her fingers in the air as though she was doing calculations on an invisible abacus. “The digits of both your birthdates sum up to eleven. As such, your auspicious date is on November 8th.”
Harry gaped at the Seer. “That’s it?”
The Seer nodded. “You sought an answer and the tiles have provided it.”
“So, um…” said Harry once they had exited the shop and were standing on the streets of Diagon Alley. “We got our wedding date. Are you alright?”
Draco took a shaky breath, both palms pressed to his cheeks. “Why’d you have to be so infuriatingly sweet while playing a board game with a Seer?”
“I was being honest,” said Harry, throwing an arm around Draco’s shoulders. “So were you, weren’t you? Precious?”
Draco clawed at Harry’s ribs with a vengeance, making Harry buckle with laughter as they made their way home together.

Fred Weasley x Reader (smut)
Lovin at The Burrow 😩
pairing: Fred Weasley x muggle born Slytherin reader (female of average body size, not a fucking stick you always feel like you’re reading about lmao)
warnings: smut in pt. 2, healthy family relationship, happiness
kink: idk bitch i guess praise kink in the smut part, also known as the bare minimum of a man literally just complimenting you during sex
You and Fred were in your seventh year at Hogwarts, dating since the beginning of your 6th. This was the second Spring Break you had spent with the Weasleys at The Burrow. You had gotten to know all of them fairly well, along with Harry, who spent Spring Break with them as well. You wish him and Ginny would just fuck already, being around them gives you the worst second-hand embarrassment. Anyway, you and Fred were upstairs in his room watching muggle tv after playing board games for what felt like 4 hours straight with the rest of the family. “I can’t believe you’ve never even heard of Saturday Night Live. Like I know it’s a muggle program, but you guys don’t even have like a wizard rip-off of it or something?” You said, laying to the right of him resting your head on his chest. “Nope. We should, though. Can you imagine Andy Samberg in a wizard version of this? i’d fucking kill for that.” Fred replied. “Me too. His name would be like Andric Sambergerry or something really British like that.” You say. Fred chuckles and cross his left ankle over the other, making you look down and appreciate how adorable his fuzzy socks look on his big ass feet as they dangle over the end of the bed. He laughs at a skit playing on the tv and snuggles a little closer to you, getting sleepy. Just then, George walks in the room and starts grabbing a pair of pajamas out of a large dresser with overstuffed drawers and broken knobs. “I’m gonna sleep on the couch downstairs, it feels a little pervy to sleep alone in a room with you guys. It also reminds me makes me feel lonely, so thanks for that, really boosts my self esteem. Anyway, night night, you sick sons of bitches.” George leaves the room, sarcastically weeping, as you and Fred laugh at his pain. “Well, would you look at that we’re all alone. What shall we do…” Fred says sarcastically shrugging his shoulders and making a thinking face, which you know is satire because he cannot process non-chaotic thoughts. You chuckle as he gently lays his left hand on your hip and begins leaning towards you for a kiss, you give him a lil smooch before pulling back, “First let me brush my teeth, i’m not sticking my tongue down your throat with the taste of your mom’s beef stew in mouth.” You tell him, getting up and walking towards the bathroom. You’re wearing crew socks, baggy sweatpants, and a 3XL t-shirt of your favorite wizard rock band, Broken Spell. After you pulled out your toothbrush and started brushing your teeth, you hear Fred’s heavy ass footsteps making the floor creak behind you. He starts horribly singing your favorite Broken Spell song quietly, dancing in place. You start dancing with him a little while brushing your teeth, until you lean over to spit in the sink and start your skincare routine. Yes, mama, even wizards need to take care of their skin. Fred rests his chin on your left shoulder and watches you in the mirror, or more realistically, stares at himself. you finish up and turn around, leaning up a little to kiss him. He doesn’t exactly tower over you, you’re not fucking Flitwick, but he’s definitely taller than you. He kisses you back, placing his hands on your waist and lifting you just a little bit so you’re sitting on the counter. Not that he could like fully lift you that well, skinny guys were your thing and he definitely fit the bill, and you were no Kendall Jenner, you had body fat just like any normal person. Fred wasn’t the type of guy who cared about that shit, though. You pushed yourself on top of the counter and wrapped your legs around the back of Fred’s as you two began lightly making out. “Shall we take this into the bedroom, mi’lady?” He asked. “i’ll avada kedavra myself if mum or anyone sees us.” You let out an understanding chuckle and hopped off the counter. “Of course, right after you brush those teeth, sir.” You sarcastically scolded him. He laughs and pulls out his tooth brush while you sit on the rim of the bathtub, appreciating how sweet and long he looks. After he finishes brushing his teeth….continued in pt. 2!!!!!!
