EQUITY OVER EQUALITY ALWAYS
Never have I ever heard of a white woman preaching this (I’m sure it does happen but I have yet to see it more often) - let alone in a comedy stand up. Alex Borstein is a gift.
#this means a lot to me#it’s just an elementary introduction to the idea of equity#BUT WE NEED MORE OF THIS#equality means nothing#without equity#equity is the goal#and always will be#for women#for people of color#for indigenous people#for disabled people#for lgbtq+ people#for any marginalized group#also her stand up is hilarious as well as good food for thought#if not a bit sobering at the same time#her authenticity and vulnerability onstage is a gift#alex borstein#comedy#comedian#stand up comedy#op#ovrgrwn#video

I think it's a mistake to assume that computer generation (so-called AI) is the only manifestation of the exploitation that workers (especially in artistic fields that are already considered lesser) experience. The problems that they experience are, I think, exasperated by computer generation, but it isn't like there were no problems with compensation, theft, or other forms of exploitation.
The problem is the exploitation, and I think sometimes, people lose sight of that in these conversations.
#politics#i don't think i'm inherently against 'ai' *but* I don't think it can exist in the world we live in now#we already had problems with worker compensation and recognizing workers and i don't think ai is the solution#like i don't know - i'm sure computer generation can be done in a more ethical way on a smaller scale...#...but if we're talking about the system we currently live in I don't think that those ethics will be adhered to...#...the profit motice outweighs the desire for equity or equality or the artistry that was taken without compensation from artists#but sometimes it feels like people think the only battle to 'win' is against 'ai' and not the system that fostered the success of it#anyway these are some shot of thoughts 👍#i've just seen some conversations about this that i vehemently disagreed with not because of the conclusions but how they arrived there

Right as I’m putting on my director cap again in a big professional way, one of the directors and educators that really helped shape my career has passed. Big artist emotions right now.
#life is weird#passion is weird#careers are weird#he gave me my first professional acting gig#a paid 4 production contract working alongside equity actors#one of whom has since made his Broadway debut#and it was a wonderful experience#but my biggest takeaway was the first inkling that performance maybe wasn’t a sustainable pursuit for me#I didn’t fully realize that for another couple years#but without that series of experiences I wouldn’t have the unique position I do now#where I basically inherited the rough semblance of a niche theatre company#and am working so hard to develop and professionalize it#even with my other experience directing and teaching I don’t think I would really feel confident directing on this scale if I hadn’t had#the opportunity and experience of being a company member on the scale of the job he gave me#and he really gave me that job#I didn’t just attend an audition#I was in a production he directed at my college#and at the end of rehearsal one night#he said ‘I’m directing falsettos this summer. I want you to audition for Cordelia.’#and I auditioned I was cast as Cordelia#but I was also cast as a principal in another show and ensemble in 2 more that season#it gave me a taste of theatre outside the fishbowl of my department#and though he is not my favorite director I’ve ever worked with#seeing him manage a company of 50 people with 4 productions In concurrent rehearsals#set an example of what directing PEOPLE means#not just the performance but the individuals the egos the strengths the weaknesses#and actually now that I think of it the last time I saw him was when I had just gotten this job#and I think he said something kind of exactly validating everything I’ve said here#I won’t speak ill of the dead so I’ll say this: I didn’t always like working with him but I have immense respect for him#and those are the people you learn the most from

#i went to an event that was 1) sponsored by KEYBANK 2) centered itself around celebrating a councilman's birthday with an american flag cake#while claiming to prioritize “racial equity”#which translates to upholding a racial caste system without making efforts toward radical ideals#the cycle continues#nonprofits die i laugh

Hi 👋, My name is Mohammad, and I’m reaching out in a moment of desperate need. I’m a father of three young children living in Gaza, and we are caught in the midst of a catastrophic war. Our home is no longer a safe haven, and the future here seems increasingly uncertain. 💔
I’ve launched a fundraising campaign with the goal of raising $60,000 to relocate my family to a safer place where my children can grow up in peace and have a chance at a brighter future.
Unfortunately, my previous fundraising efforts were abruptly halted when my account was terminated without explanation. However, I remain determined to keep fighting for my family’s safety and well-being. 🫶
If you could take a moment to read our story, consider donating, or simply share our campaign with others, it would make an incredible difference. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to safety and a new beginning. 🙏
Thank you for your time, compassion, and support. ❤️🩹

Literally the lyrics to the song. Y'know what pays the rent on your humble flat and helps you at the automat? That ice you get or else no dice, because once the louses go back to their spouses (or divorce them, but square cut or pear shaped the rocks don't lose their shape), a girl can sell the diamonds.
When you are legally barred from banking or owning real property, very valuable very portable commodities are your best friend. Just small enough to fit in a suitcase, and able to buy a future without him.
#no bank account#no credit cards#no line of credit#without a man to sign or her husband's approval#so no loans#no small businesses#no credit history#no equity#no home ownership#no financial independence at all#except for what she could pack in a suitcase#diamonds and furs#portable and valuable

so many treatment centers are too profit driven and don’t care that many of the quick methods they use cause immense harm.
Nobody even believes me when I say I’m worse bc I look fine and eat. But I’m genuinely scared of people now.
#tw ed treatment#I was able to work and had some sanity but the amount of trauma I have from some of these places#isolation as punishment and screaming at some should never be the norm#punishing somone for their illness doesn’t help#there was this thing called hallway or wall punishment iykyk but no one is allowed to talk to you#almost all ed treatment centers are owned by private equity firms#there are better places but those are the small clinics not big accessible chain res#tw rehab#there’s a way to go about it without causing more harm#there’s also things they should really take into account but don’t

Yep.
We also need to talk about the fact that those Christian centric views (which has already taken a lot from other religions, especially Jews’) are often a bastardized version of what Christianity is supposed to be and how they are being used manipulatively by people in all walks of life to not only justify their actions, but also absolve themselves of responsibility. I’m not joking when I say a lot of Christians hear “We’re God’s chosen people” because there is this ingrained envy/jealousy against Jews.
People heard/saw/were taught “The Good Samaritan” parable story and instead of learning/understanding “I should show basic human decency even to those I hate/have been taught to hate. Dehumanizing people is not the way.” Instead, a lot of people thought “Hmm. The lesson to learn is that someone should rescue me when I’m on the side of the road. If they don’t, they’re not good like us Christians.”
You know how many people don’t know what a Samaritan is but expect to constantly be rescued by one. A lot. Which is quite ironic considering the amount of Jew hatred going on.
crazy how 2,000 years of being fed "jews are untrustworthy two faced liars" will make people instinctively think jews are liars and have their gut reaction to jews talking about judaism be "assume they're lying." or maybe these are two unrelated phenomena that have no impact on each other and the gentile instinct to distrust the jew has nothing to do with thousands of years of antisemitism they've internalized.
#A lot of people have gotten really comfortable with openly hating jews#you know the story of the widow giving her last two coins#instead of learning equity≠equality/quiet acts without demanding recognition is better than attention seeking acts#they think “I going to make a big deal out of this because I deserve a pat on the back. I don’t think enough people noticed.”#don’t even get me started on the feeling of an upcoming shakedown when that verse or music come out

When the vibes of the trailer home you’re looking at are just so rancid that the Zillow app literally crashes
#I have no judgement against trailer homes in general#but I can’t afford one that doesn’t look like a crime scene#I knew the real estate market was bad but lads it’s BAD#if I want to live anywhere less than an hour away from work#it’s either something even my parents couldn’t afford#or something that is unlivable without structural repairs but a ‘great investment’#I don’t want to ‘build sweat equity’ I want a small living space that I can afford to just move into#not have to repair or update#but half of these listings literally make my skin crawl

Hello everyone! The word is out -- I am writing a book!
If you ever wanted to read a book about McMansions, 5-over-1s, the ignoble toil of architects, ridiculous baubles for rich people, hostile architecture, private equity, shopping (rip), offices (rip), loud restaurants, and starchitects who behave like tech founders, this is the book for you!
Thank you all for your support throughout the years -- without you this would not be possible. And don't worry, I'll still be blogging throughout it all, so stay tuned for this month's post.

So, not my state right now but I just spent 6 years there, Utah is banning books left and right. They've decided that they can ban anything "pornographic or indecent" which they've decided applies to many books that talk about LGBTQ+ topics but of course does not apply to any religious texts. They also just passed a law that says that the government cannot and will not do anything for DEI. Now public schools and employees cannot do anything to help excluded or protected minorities (I mean ANY minority - race, socioeconomic background, ability, religion, sexuality, you name it) if anyone can say that help is targeted. They can't even talk about or post educational materials, even if they are about women's history or black history. I don't know if you can see how backwards it is to call Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts exclusive and unfair. Thousands of students in Utah are going to go without help, and it already has such a high rate of suicide among LGBTQ+ teens.
This is what radical Republicans will do if they hold power. They do and will restrict education. They can and will do everything to make a white Christian population comfortable and ignore everyone else.
Please get out and vote this November. Boot them out.
