Evelyn Clawthorne died hundreds of years ago but she's living in Philip's heads rent free. He made it so far, he built a cult, he violently murdered their family again and again and raised an empire, he erased her and oppressed her people, and yet. Evelyn got away. He never got the satisfaction of defeating her, and her actions before her death gave her people the tools to destroy him. Evelyn won by chance and by love. Her love lead the kids home, her love got Belos punched in the face, her love crafted a gateway between the worlds. And her love's final act was giving a child a second chance at life.
So... Evelyn won in the end, even if she didn't get to see it.

I've rewatched the Owl House dozens of times now and my favorite scene (excluding season 3 because that shit is magical, pun intended,) is Hunter and Amity's fight at Eclipse Lake.
Earlier in the episode, Amity and Hunter have a chat where Hunter proclaims that they both have a lot at stake, unlike Eda and King. She attempts to argue but is interrupted by the sound of her Tamagotchi-Text thing, as Luz sends a text that Amity misinterprets as Luz threatening her with leaving if she doesn't return with the Titan Blood. Hunter almost directly after takes off and gets a massive head start to Eclipse Lake.
While Eda deals with the scouts and Kikimora, Amity chases after Hunter with King by her side. She enters the room to have this exchange with Hunter.
"Don't worry. I won't pick a fight. There's no Titan Blood."
"Then why are you digging?"
"Oh, it's simple really. Belos needs Titan Blood to make a new portal key. Can't get to the human realm without it."
"There's blood in the key?"
*Amity tightens her grip around the portal key.*
"Since I failed my last mission, I thought, 'Hey, a chance to make up for it.' But I can't go back empty-handed. Not again."
Hunter is noticeably hysterical, laughing between almost every sentence he speaks.
"Long story short, this is my grave. Want me to make you one too?"
"This is really bumming me out." King says simply.
"That's just life, rat. Everyone has a use, and if you don't pbtpbt bye-bye! Your friend gets it."
With the help of King, Amity finally learns how to interpret the text. Luz had never even thought of leaving her awesome girlfriend. Almost immediately after realizing, she becomes almost as bright and sunny as Luz is. With a burst of inspiration, she decides to give Hunter the best message she could think of.
"I grew up thinking that everything was an opportunity to justify existing, but there are people out there make you feel worthless. You just have to let yourself meet them."
She offers her hand, but unfortunately, Hunter notices the key sticking out of her coat, and a battle ensues. Hunter is sweating and incredibly anxious, which shows with the way he fights. Hunter keeps dashing around, making magical sparks fly everywhere. Meanwhile Amity is holding a poker face as she almost effortlessly dodges and blocks every one of his attacks. Every attack that she throws out has a very obviously calculated plan attached.
Hunter eventually tears the key away from Amity and they end up cornering each other. Despite that, Amity still very clearly has the upper hand, with a blade pointed at the neck of the battered Hunter that is caked in abomination goo. Hunter desperately thinking of a way out to give the blood to his uncle, tells Amity, quote;
"Listen, you're strong, and I'm tired. if this continues, you'll probably escape, but here's the thing: We know where to find you and your human. So just hand over the key."
Hunter's threat to kill Amity is completely empty, as they just displayed, Amity clearly has the upper hand. But Luz? The last time she saw her she was sick out of her mind and incredibly delirious. So Amity finally slips, the key cracks as her grip tightens, spilling half the blood. Hunter wins and slips away with the key.
This scene is so damn great because the emotions of the characters make perfect sense and intertwine with everything, we've known about them up until this point. Not to mention the music in this scene absolutely slaps ass and the animation is top-notch.

Fantasy Australia (The Edge Of The World)
How do I open this post?
Almost every episode this season has had majour revelations, but this is one of the most significant. Every episode has had multiple themes that it has played with, but this one weaves them all together so incredibly seamlessly. Every episode has made an attempt at emotionality, but this is one of the few that genuinely has me bawling at almost every watch though.
So, yeah, this episode is dense, but it doesn’t feel like it. There is a ton of information here that goes straight to your brain without having to be pointed out. Combine that with the substantially ambitious plot, and this episode is really efficiently written.
Let me explain.
SPOILERS AHEAD: (The Owl House, Nimona, Glee)

I’ve said before that certain stories don’t go places, and instead start there and get more detailed in their examination of it, and I’d like to clarify that here with a contrasting example. The Owl House goes places.
For an example, let’s look at an earlier episode that tried to do something with King, that being Really Small Problems. I know it isn’t a fair comparison, but that’s kind of the point here.

Really Small Problems comes towards the end of the first season. The series has got its mind around what it wants to do, and it shows us the growing camaraderie between the characters. Amity isn’t Luz’ friend yet, let alone girlfriend, and Eda gets in trouble with the “Fun Police.”
It is a fun episode, with the main conflict being King’s fear of abandonment. He doesn’t want to be left behind, so he accidentally causes an issue. By its very nature, this episode is small in the big scheme of things, and it’s not trying to be anything else.
“Dumb kids? Wait, those are my dumb kids!”
This isn’t from King, but it does help me segway into The Edge Of The World. By the time the final arc rolls around, Eda realising she has to look after people has turned into a desperation to protect them from all danger.

“This is so much bigger than I imagined, Lily. I thought Luz was just some lost kid, but because of me she’s wrapped up in this thing with Belos and its… it’s just not fair. She and King are children. They shouldn’t have to deal with this.”
Up until this point, I agreed with everything that Eda had said. They are kids, get them away from the danger, that’s basic parenting. This isn’t a “let them make their own mistakes”, this is something that could get them killed and is actively detrimental to their mental health as it is.

I genuinely love the shot composition of this one moment. We get Everyone at a different distance, guiding your eye through the shot. But you also have Eda leaning in to get between them all and physically disrupt their plans.
However, I want to disagree with Eda on one key element of this. It is not her fault.
Because, yeah, if she hadn’t been exiled from society, or if she hadn’t been cursed, things would have gone much better for everyone. But I’m using passive voice for a reason. It wasn’t Eda’s fault that someone cursed her, it wasn’t Eda’s fault that society exiled her. Someone decided that wild magic was punishable by death, I would place more blame on that person than on Eda.

Focusing in on the curse bit for a second, Eda has forgiven Lilith, and the two have a much healthier relationship. This is most exhibited by fact that Eda can be honest with her, and the reaction she gets is a hug and reassurance.
“We have a whole week until the Day of Unity. We'll figure out how to keep them safe.”
Did you catch that, though? Two lines, and we have two character arcs set up, as well as a deadline being established. The next few episodes all take place in the span of a single week.
This is the equivalent to the last season of The Clone Wars turning to the camera and saying, “Duku’s dead, buckle up”.
This is the opposite of drip feeding, it’s a lot of stuff happening very quickly. Your brain can only focus on one element, but you do register the rest subconsciously.

The technique has already been used less than thirty seconds prior to this, with Hooty dropping the Chekhov’s Gun that is the army on the house’s doorstep in the middle of Eda’s breakdown. You are so focused on the fact that this is white noise to her that you almost miss this. Almost.
If you did notice that information becomes Hitchcockian suspense, as you will spend the rest of the episode stressing about Eda and Lilith. If the episode just ended on the cliffhanger with no setup, you would panic at the end, but you know it’s coming. You look forwards.

Zooming out for a second, I want to talk about the purpose of storytelling and how it relates to analysis.
Stories exist, first and foremost, to communicate with their audience. That is how we end up with shallow stories and dense stories. A shallow story is trying to communicate itself and not much else, and this is not definitively worse or better than a more complex story. Sometimes, the story just wants you to have a good time watching it, and that’s ok.
As such, a key tool in any writer’s arsenal is engagement. If an audience member connects with a story, they are a more likely to understand the plot and themes and all other relevant elements.
It’s not essential, There Will Come Soft Rains is a short story by Ray Bradburry that is intentionally uncomfortable to read, and that’s because the aim is to get you to stop reading and take action.

Look at these character designs. They're so unique and personable. But they're also weird. King's eyes don't match these at all. Maybe they aren't as similar to him as they claim.
The Owl House is a series that, for the most part, likes to be engaging, and The Edge Of The World does this especially well through worldbuilding. You find out that this world has a version of Australia, and you don’t ever get to explore it, you just get glimpses.
The series has rewarded curiosity up to this point and trained you to pay attention to its actual plot. So, let’s actually talk about that.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one. A character spends the story learning something about themself that explains part of who they are. But oh no, the characters family, who was so accepting up to this point, is suddenly unforgiving. All the character wants to do is engage with their family and cultivate that relationship, but the basic detail of who they are gets in the way of that, culminating in the following:
“You were never one of us.”

This is the plot of Nimona, my single favourite moving picture ever made.
Nimona is a fundamentally queer movie, with its eponym’s shapeshifting nature causing her to be ostracised. She is othered because of who she is, when all she actually wants is friendship.
But Nimona is actually a secondary character in her own movie. It’s not about her, it’s about the other side. Nimona is about someone who has been societally conditioned to be a bigot learning the error of his ways.
The film is a subversion that doesn’t focus on humanising the queer person, instead using that as a baseline and explaining that it is possible for an asshole to change.
But this is all very cerebral. What about a more blatant example?

“I’m just too tired. I have to just be me.”
“Everyone has secrets, Santana. They are called secrets for a reason.”
This is part of a conversation that takes place between Santana and her Grandmother in Glee, leading up to Santana’s wedding to another woman. This is Santana coming out to her grandmother, and I want to highlight the acting here.
It’s quiet, and comfortable. You can tell that these two share a kinship. But the second Santana starts being honest, Abuela starts looking around for an escape, clearly wanting to be anywhere she is not. Who Santana is has created a rift between her and her family.
This is, notably, subverted at the wedding itself. There are not many moments in any media that can make my stomach drop without fail, but the second Abuela walks through the door is incredible. It’s a moment of connection and overcoming of prejudice. It’s a story beat that communicates itself to you entirely in four seconds.

If we pivot this back to King for a moment, we end up with a very similar story. It’s about King discovering he is a Titan, a word that doesn’t mean anything in our world, so we are free to engage with it as we wish. Then, he is shunned by the people who claim to be his family.
His fear of abandonment from previous episodes has been put on full display. We have set up why this would hurt him as much as it does
You could make a note about how this episode relates to interpretations of faith through the Titan Trappers' admiration for the Collector, who in turn doesn't appear to know who they are, so the Trappers are instead making things up as they go. You could notice that. But I won’t.

The Owl House resolves its main conflict by giving King two families of his own. The first is the found family of Luz, Hooty, and Eda, who contrast the stereotypical family things that the Trappers do with actual love and affection. But, he also has the land itself, which guides and protects him.
Before I go, I want to briefly mention a piece of fanart. Spoilers for the entirety of the series from this point onwards.

The most important shot of this episode, to me, is one of the final ones. King, looking out, returning to his home, but with different eyes. He’s choosing to engage with it, but he’s still staring at the vastness of his own future.
The artist @kaereth then offered another angle on this scene, quite literally.
The land is guiding King, his parent was always there, always watching, always looking after him. Because someone can’t talk to you doesn’t mean that they aren’t present.
The Titan is effectively dead in this series. Like, sure, he’s alive in there, but he ain’t doing much. This is the closest the two get to actually sharing a conversation, and it’s the moment before everything goes to hell.

Fun fact, this is what traveling in Australia actually feels like, so kudos for the accuracy there.
Final Thoughts
This is what I meant about The Owl House being a queer story rather than just a story with queer people in it. It’s about identity and family and belonging. It’s about freedom and escape from bigotry.
Because being queer doesn’t make you any different from anyone else, it just means maybe you like or don’t like different people or express yourself in a different way. It’s just a thing that people are.

Something that always struck me about this 'fight' is that it felt really one-sided. Not because the Raven Beast is bigger, but because she's also way more aggressive. We see throughout the show that Eda in her Owl Beast form acts mostly on instinct (and her inner beast, once she starts talking to it, seems to just be hungry or cranky most of the time). We don't get much insight into how Lilith copes with the curse (like none at all after this), so this is going to be a lot of inference.

Off the top, I would like to reiterate that Hayley Wong has repeatedly asked that nobody repost or edit her art without permission. I'm going to be referring to stuff from the boards in this post, so here's the link if you want to look for yourself.
So, in this episode, Eda and Lilith are both angry—specifically at Gwendolyn, and with good reason. They both end up turning into beasts due to a combination of that anger, stress, and the fact their mom thought she was "helping" by taking away their medication.
But here is where they differ. Eda was angry about the current situation: her mom refusing to respect her choices, and causing unnecessary harm to her all day. And Luz even joined in. As Eda says, she has a right to be upset, though I don't think she meant to lose control over the beast.

That's just what happens when she reaches her limit. And she knows her limits, she's been dealing with this curse for 30 years!
Meanwhile, Lilith has been dealing with the curse for... a few weeks, at most? Unless you count dealing with the guilt of cursing Eda as part of that. We see that she's quite unaware of the effects of the curse, as she experienced some symptoms for the first time this very day. She essentially gets told to take an elixir if she starts feeling stressed, and then is left in the house to stew in her guilt and insecurity all day.
Gwen's lukewarm greeting, and the realization that she's paid consistent visits to Eda over the years, is enough to send Lilith into a downward spiral. She starts stress-eating ice cream, and makes cruel comments about King's dad abandoning him (a clear case of projection, and I don't think he really internalizes it after this episode, but seriously that's no way to talk to your 8-year-old nephew), and unfortunately the only voice of reason around is Hooty. Well, he tried.

I want to note here that she doesn't cry. She mopes, she complains, she gets rude and cynical; these are all things we've seen her do before. But she doesn't allow herself to honestly express her feelings, her wants and needs. What's she gonna say? "Hey Mom, can you please pay attention to me?" You can't just ask for things like that. And she's a grown adult, she's more mature than this. She was the head of the Emperor's Coven, for Titan's sake. Didn't she get enough attention there to last a lifetime? And didn't she learn how to repress all her useless emotions and craft a perfect persona to hide behind until she could no longer tell the mask from her face?
She realizes she's indulged her worst thoughts a little too hard when the feathers start popping up, and goes to take an elixir and calm down...
And there are no elixirs.
And she panics. She has no coping strategies for this. She doesn't even know what's going to happen to her, only that it's going to be really, really bad.

It has to be terrifying, and painful... and maybe, just a little bit deserved? This is the fate she forced upon Eda, after all.
We don't see any signs that she damaged the house after she turned, unlike the havoc Eda caused back in The Intruder. King runs to get help, because Eda or Luz would know what to do better than he does, and Raven Beast Lilith seems to pursue him, but she's not after him. She goes after Eda directly. There is no distraction (King also notes that light glyphs had no effect on her), there is no behaviour that can be explained as animal instinct. There is a violent, visceral anger, and instead of addressing its source, she flies out there to take it out on Eda.
This is why I don't buy the interpretation that Gwen started favouring Eda only after the curse. By that point, Lilith was an older teenager almost out of the house, and it's completely reasonable for the parents to be focusing more on the younger kid with a new mysterious illness. I think Eda was always the favourite, or at least got more attention in ways that made Lilith feel overlooked. Part of it was that Eda got in trouble more, whereas Lilith was usually quiet and well-behaved, so everyone just decided that Eda needed more help (which she didn't necessarily want) and Lilith needed none. Lilith got very good at needing nothing. So good that instead of talking to her sister about their impending duel, she decided to curse her in the dead of night instead. And then to keep it a secret until she found a way to undo it, because she never wants to upset anyone or cause a scene. And then to give 30 years of her life to an evil man's crooked system for nothing—less than nothing, she's only going to realize later.
Lilith's breakdown isn't about the fact Gwen is paying attention to Eda again. That's just the trigger for a lifetime of repressed emotions bursting to the surface all at once, and it's been coming for a while.
The Owl Beast seems to be mostly defending herself. At a few points she tries to flee, but the Raven Beast catches her. The Raven Beast is malicious, with exaggerated expressions of rage and what can only be described as cruel glee when she inflicts pain. This seems to come out of nowhere... but only if you haven't been paying attention to Lilith.

We know what Lilith is like at her worst. It wasn't even that long ago she threatened Luz's life in order to capture Eda. All while convinced that she was doing the right thing. She doesn't even have that shield now. She doesn't have much of anything, really, except her sister who refused to leave her out in the cold even after everything she's done. And this is how she repays that trust...?
We also know that Lilith wasn't in control of her actions as the Raven Beast. But that doesn't mean the beast was just doing beast things. I believe it was acting directly on Lilith's intrusive thoughts. Hurting Eda was her greatest shame, and the idea that she could do it again is a constant fear that she has. Unlike Eda, who has long been seen by others as a monster and had to fight her internalized shame about it, Lilith considers herself a monster while everyone around her is unaware of her inner turmoil. She's afraid of herself; she thinks her feelings are ugly and violent and unmanageable. And so that's what they became.
There was a sequence in the storyboards that was cut from the episode, presumably for time, where Gwendolyn tries to use a beastkeeping spell in order to communicate with her beast-daughters. It proves completely ineffective, so she goes to plan B, which is just trying to talk to them like a normal person (also in the boards, Gwen summons firebees to lift roof tiles for her to walk on, which I'm glad got changed to the tiles themselves being flying creatures. it's less distracting). There was something really affecting about watching her try to do things her own way one last time before finally admitting that she's failed the both of them. It painted the picture of this whole family who never talk about anything that's difficult or painful.
Then the scene plays out the way it does: Gwen's words get through to Eda, and allow her to finally face the beast and have an important revelation about herself.
And Lilith? Well, for all the violence she just showed, she breaks down in tears the second she is shown loving care.

When they've changed back, her anger is gone. There is no sign of the monster; there is only a sad, lonely woman who hasn't allowed herself to cry in so long that she almost forgot how. But she's safe now, and she's seen, and she's allowed this healthy expression of emotion. She collapses in the arms of her mother and sister.
After this, Lilith and Gwen had an off-screen conversation, where Lilith admitted she was the one to curse Eda, and decided that she was going to move back home. I could write a whole other post on that first point, but we've reached the end of the episode. I think a major reason why Lilith wanted to stay with mom and dad instead of with Eda is because she's afraid of hurting Eda again. Any time the curse acts up, she becomes a danger to the people around her, but especially to Eda, because of how much of her energy and guilt and shame has been focused around Eda over the years. She needs some time away while she figures out how to deal with the curse, to recover and build up her own identity. And of course, to build the relationship with her parents that she needed as a kid. Better late than never.

Lily Orchard's Takes on "Racism" in The Owl House Are Garbage and Here's Why
Hello. You may know me as the guy who made two whole posts debunking Lily Orchard's takes on Hunter. Although those posts are not perfect and I do think there are some things I could add or change about them, they still hold up as I still stand by every single point I made in them.
But to say that Lily's bad Owl House takes end with Hunter would be a lie. There is this particular narrative about both TOH fandom and the show itself that she tries to paint that really pisses me off, that being the whole "Racism" narrative. I talked about it briefly in my second Hunter post but this narrative has so much objectively wrong with it that it's best to make a whole post refuting it. Here I'm going to go over Lily's takes on three characters that she primarily uses to push this whole racism narrative; Amity, Hunter, and Luz. Without further ado, let's begin...
NOTE: This post is LONG. Like, very very very very long. Its the longest post I've ever made and the longest essay I have ever posted on the internet. If you don't want to read all of that then just skip to section 7 where I have a TLDR for those who don't want to read an 8375-word long post that takes at least almost a full hour to read. So...ya, let's begin.
1. Lily Orchard's Takes on Amity are Garbage and Here's Why
I'll be covering Lily's Video "An Incoherent Discussion About Main Characters" mainly TOH segment as its the video where she talks the most about Amity. This is where the problems with Lily's narrative begin, that being; Lily saying that white characters are popular because of white favoritism rather than the fact that they are actually well written characters.
Oh, you thought Hunter was the only character Lily accused people of being racist for liking, ya, no. In the beginning of the TOH segment, Lily tries to argue that there's no reason for the fandom to love Amity so much because she (supposedly) has little depth as a character....
"At this point, Amity had no depth outside of being the bully, It's only until a month later that that would change. But the fandom latched onto Amity the moment she was introduced and hyped her up incessantly. with only a few clips where her ego is bruised and nothing else. And the thing is, Amity had nothing to her at this point. It's a common complaint from people that the fandom reduces Amity these days to just gay panic and shipping, but as of season 2, that is what she is, love interest, abusive parents, and that's it"
"Amity is a one-note character, and I don't say that as a bad thing characters fit the role that they were made for and there really isn't anything wrong with that. Amity is an obstacle for Luz to overcome and then her love interest and then occasionally gets a few moments of depth."
This is...objectively incorrect. Note I was not in the fandom at the time season 1 was airing (I only got into The Owl House when the show had already ended) however, Lily tries to act as if Amity is a character with little depth and that the fandom has no reason to like her so much. This is likely done so Lily can gaslight you into thinking she has a point so she can paint the TOH fandom as racist. Amity does go through character development throughout the show, as in season 1 she gradually becomes a better person and even makes amens with Willow after cutting her off during childhood.
She has a lot of moments of depth in episode Convention, Lost in Language, Understanding Willow, Escaping Expulsion, Eclipse Lake, and Reaching Out that develop her as a character. These aren't just "a few moments of depth". Amity is a developed character, the fandom has a reason to like her. And maybe people latched onto Amity because they liked the idea of an enemies-to-lovers romance?
Again, I wasn't in the fandom at the time, but Lily doesn't consider any of these reasons that people may like Amity so she could try and paint Amity as a 1-dimensional character when really people like Amity for being a well-developed character and Lily's arguments that she is one note are just objectively incorrect. She's a girl raised in a prestigious and high-class family who has to meet high expectations from her parents and bullies people she can't feel any weakness, and was forced to cut off her childhood best freind because she wasn't strong enough for them.
However, throughout season 1 she becomes a better person thanks to Luz, makes amens with Willow and stands up to her abusive mom in Season 2, and in Season 2 Amity still has episodes developing her with conflict with her parents, she's not just Luz's girlfriend. This is a well-developed and three-dimensional character here, and there's a reason why Amity is a fan favorite in the fandom. But Lily ignores all of that depth and character development in favor of painting Amity as one-dimensional so her racism narrative could look like it holds more water than it actually does.
And for the "abusive parents" stuff Lily says this:
"Amity's relationship to her parents and her perfectionism only ever come out in the third act of any other episode with the exception of Escaping Expulsion and Eclipse Lake. Amity's abusive home life is a plot device more than anything else, something another character pulls on to get the story going, and the solution is almost always insultingly easy, and she's only ever brought into an episode because Luz drags her into it"
Once again...this is objectively incorrect. Amity still has a lot of episodes exploring her character as I already stated so the first sentance is already false. But then Lily says that Amity's abusive home life is a...plot device? Um, no? Its not a plot device, its an aspect of Amity's character that the show is dedicating episodes to exploring. And "the solution is almost always insultingly easy"??? What do you mean by "the solution is almost always insultingly easy"?? Lily doesn't give any examples here, she just says something critical and you're supposed to just accept that.
And now...we get the moment you've all been waiting for:
"So why do people get upset at the idea that Amity is just reduced to love interest when that is literally her role in the plot? Well, (and if this gets posted on The Owl House subreddit then uhh please cover your ears you delicate little flower children) white favortism"
And now we have Lily trying to paint the TOH fandom as racist for liking Amity.
"It's been a common refrain for a while that the show has a white and the fandom makes it worse. Amity was the first instance of that"
Ok so 1. The show doesn't have a "white favoritism" problem, this is something I'll get into more later but the reason why Amity gets focus is because she objectively has more importance than to the plot thank Willow and Gusm being Luz's love interest. And I already talked about the real reasons the fandom likes Amity that don't have anything to do with racism.
"When she first appeared in I Was A Teenage Abomination, the fan base instantly started hyping her up as the greatest thing since Eda the owl lady. They immediantly projected every fucking thing on the sun onto her, and Lumity was birthed from this"
What if people just again, like the idea of an enemies-to-lovers romance between her and Luz? And I don't think I've seen ANY ONE project things onto Amity, again there are clear reasons to like these characters. Then Lily says this:
"That was all it took. It's by sheer fucking luck that Dana was going in this direction with them anyway because there was zero basis for any of this. Amity was a minor antagonist at best, and Willow was the main spotlight of I was a Teenage Abomination"
"Zero basis for any of this"? Again, Lily is acting as if there aren't any reasons to like Amity when as I already explained there clearly is. And if she means no basis for Lumity then...Lily, Lumity was clearly being set up a lot throughout the first season. Its not exactly hard to see that.
"There's no reason for people to go absolutely this crazy over her when Willow was right there. Hell throughout season 1 Willow had more grounds for a romantic relationship then Amity did. But Willow was chubby and Korean and Amity was not and not"
I don't know about you but I'm pretty sure a lot of reasons for people liking Amity more than Willow is because they find Willow and Gus to be less developed than Amity, which is a perfectly fine opinion to have. Once Again Lily ignores reasons people may prefer Amity over Willow in favor of just jumping straight to racism instead. And there also isn't as much of a hyper-fixation on Amity as Lily says there is, yes she's a fan favorite character but characters like Luz are still very popular.
The rest of the segment really is not worth talking about. Basically after this point Lily just keeps on trying to reinforce her objectively wrong narrative of "Amity is liked because of white favoritism", her saying that she thought Eda was the main character instead of Luz, and she also talks about Luz and Hunter here but that'll be covered in their respective sections.
So Lily's whole narrative about Amity being liked because of "white favoritism" is wrong, there are real reasons that people like Amity, Lily simply chooses to ignore that because that would break her narrative. Now that we have that out of the way, let's talk about the next character Lily uses to push this whole racism narrative (and the most obvious).
2. Lily Orchard's Takes on Hunter are Garbage and Here's Why - PART III (...kind of)
Again, I've already made two whole posts debunking Lily Orchard's critiques of Hunter so go read those if you want the full analysis on why Lily's takes on this character are completely wrong, but in the second section of Part II I talked about Lily's whole narrative about Hunter's fans that she tries to paint, that they are racist and only like Hunter for being white. She does basically the same thing she did for Amity; ignore the reasons why people may like a character in favor of painting the fandom as racist, and she also tries to act as if Hunter is only liked because people push headcanon's onto him. I'll just paste this piece of text here since I already refuted it in my second Hunter post;
"In her video talking about Hunter, Lily says that the fandom only likes Hunter in spite of how he's written, which is basically her saying "if you like this character you actually don't like him...or your just racist". Ok so, I don't want to talk about this that much here, however, it's worth noting that Lily constantly calls people who like Hunter racist purely for liking a character she doesn't that also happens to white, which is a major yikes, as there are reasons that Hunter is well-liked in the fandom beyond his race. But Lily's response to that is "If you like Hunter you only like him because you push fanon ideas onto him when he's really a shallow poorly-written character".
Let me tell you why people like Hunter; he's a boy who was indoctrinated and raised his whole life into believing he was doing the right thing and that Belos loves him, and for his whole life he was had to prove his worth to the EC or he's just worthless, and a lot of people also see Hunter's arc as him realizing he was being abused. None of this is stuff that the fandom is making up, these are literally things that are communicated in the show itself, Lily is just choosing to ignore that just so she can paint this narrative that TOH fandom is a bunch of racists because they like Hunter, completely ignoring how people can have different tastes and opinions than each other. Oh ya, and someone did point this out to Lily once in a tumblr ask...Lily responded by saying "no" and then went on another rant about how the fandom is racist for liking Hunter and sidelines Gus and Willow, and says that if Hunter was black, people would ignore him like they do with Gus and Willow...that speaks for itself. I could not find a screenshot where Lily said this, but I do know that she did say that in response to an anon poking a hole into her narrative, which just shows how she reacts to criticism."
Like with Amity, Lily constantly acts as if there aren't any reasons for people to like Hunter, and the reasons people do have are just things that people make up through headcanons, when this is objectievely false. There are clear reasons for people to like Hunter, but Lily ignores that in favor of painting this narrative that Hunter fans are racist. She even calls than misogynistic and homophobic in her video on Hunter without showing any evidence of that. And NONE of the anons she showed say anything like Lily described.
She keeps on reinforcing the narrative that Hunter fans only like him in spite of how he's written rather than the idea that he is written well, which is objectively false because again, there are reasons to like Hunter as a character, and all of Lily's takes on him are just objectively wrong. This is just Lily treating her opinions like they are facts in a very narcissistic and smug way.
But again, I've already refuted this point so let's get into the other point about Hunter that Lily tries to use to push this whole racism narrative; that being that Hunter overshadows and sidelines the non-white characters and gets too much screen time.
"Season 2 only made this worse with the introduction of Hunter, who as a character has an effect on the fanbase comparable to Audo and Ren. Overshadowing every other character and causing white girls to squee about how much of a good boy he is, even though he definitely isn't one"
I already talked about how Hunter doesn't take up as much screen time as Lily likes to think he does in my first Hunter post, but I'll just put some comments that I got from my first Hunter post as they debunk Lily's whole take her pretty well:
"Hunter having dynamics with the rest of the cast is a good thing and while him, it’s not being “stapled” into them, he’s just interacting with them in a fucking episode. He parallels all of the main four teens in some way so it makes sense. Plus, he’s only in half or less of the season 2 episodes and wasn’t in season 1, he didn’t get the luxury of low-stakes filler episodes so he kind of has to make a mark during the episodes he’s in. Which is why he’s usually the focus or at least major in them, that’s understandable and he’s compelling enough to justify it."
"I'll never understand the criticism of a character taking screentime away from others, if this character is considered by the writers to be more important than others, then they have to feel like they really do matter, that's normal."
The reason why Hunter gets a lot of focus isn't because of racism, its because he's an important character and he doesn't even appear in that many episodes so he kinda of needs to make a mark in the ones that he's in, especially in season 2B where the show got cut short so the show needed to try and dedicate as much of its time to developing the character it just introduced in the first half of the season as much as it can while still developing the other characters and progressing the plot.
Also, here's a fun fact; as two comments on my second Hunter post pointed out, Hunter is a character that can ONLY work if he's white, because he is a clone of a 1600s witch Hunter. Just a little tid-bit I thought I'd mention.
Hunter doesn't sideline characters as much as Lily likes to think he does, in Hunting Palisman, Hollow Mind and Thanks to Them he gets paired up with Luz, the main character who is also a black girl who gets an equal amount of screen time with Hunter. This is an extension of the whole "Hunter is stapled onto other characters" criticism Lily has, where she complains about...Hunter being paired up and interacting with other characters. Again, I already covered this stuff in my two Hunter posts, but Lily's whole problem here is simply that Hunter is in an episode, regardless of the reason.
And we all know that Lily is entirely biased to hate Hunter purely for being an "angsty white boy" so I think I'm done here. Again, go check out my two Hunter posts if you want to see go more in-depth on this whole "Hunter takes up too much screen time" criticism.
But in short; Hunter does not take up as much screen time as Lily says he does, and the reason the show focuses on him is that he has more importance to the plot than Willow and Gus, and because he needs to make a mark in each episode he's in, and once again there are reasons for people to like Hunter that are not related to "white favoritism". Again, go check out my posts on Lily's critiques on Hunter if you want me to go more in-depth. But now, let's get into the final character that Lily tries to use to push this whole narrative, and that is...
3. Lily Orchard's Takes on Luz's are Garbage and Here's Why (short version)
Let me just say, Lily's takes on Luz, specifically her trauma...are awful. They are almost as bad as her takes on Hunter, and I'm actually planning on making a whole post refuting Lily's critiques of Luz like I did with Hunter, but for now, let's just talk about the whole narrative she tries to paint with how Luz's trauma is received; this time I'll be covering the Luz segment of her fandom torture video.
But lets cover the Luz part of the Discussion of Main Characters video first before get into that. Don't worry, this will be quick. Here Lily constantly tries to argue that people want to ignore Luz in favor of Amity and Hunter but they can't because she is the main character
"But the thing is, while Amity and Hunter caused Willow and Gus to be completely sidlined, (and even their episodes in season 2 have generally just been them playing second fiddle to one of those two) neither of them have managed to sideline Luz. Amity's entire role in the story is to be a supporting character to Luz everything she does is to help and further Luz's goals and Hunter is an antagonistic force in Luz's story, trying to stop her efforts because they interfere with the goals of emperor Belos."
"Amity is the supporting character and love interest, and Hunter is the villain. And I imagine that is something that probably sticks in the craw of the Amity-Hunter hype train, they fact that they can't just ignore Luz like they clearly want to because the characters they like come with Luz attached as a default."
Not only does Lily not give ANY evidence to support her narrative, she's also just... objectively wrong. Luz is a beloved character in the fandom, there's tons of videos about her that get a shit ton of views, there's a lot of fan art and fan works around Luz, etc etc. People who like Amity and Hunter probably also like Luz a lot too. Just look at the Luz Noceda Tumblr tag and you'll see that it has more followers than either of any of Hunter and Amity's tags do.
Lily does not give any evidence to support her whole narrative and acts as if the TOH fandom really wants to ignore Luz, but as I already said Luz is still a beloved and fan-favorite character within the fandom, its not exactly hard to see that. Just because people like Amity and Hunter doesn't mean they secretly dislike Luz or something, that's just stupid.
I could go on and on about this but you get my point; Lily's entire narrative that she tries to paint that People want to ignore Luz is just straight-up false and she does not support her claim with any evidence whatsoever.
But now, let's get into the real meat of things; the narrative that Lily tries to paint in her Fandom Torture video. Again, Lily's takes on Luz's trauma are just as awful as her takes on Hunter but I'll only focus on the racism narrative she tries to paint, that being that the fandom likes watching 14-year-old black girls suffer I'm not joking. This is the narrative that Lily actually tries to paint;
"But the truth is...ya fandom does love this shit. They love watching characters' angst forever. They love their three thousand-word slow-burn hurt with no comfort fix. They love watching characters suffer especially if they're women, and especially if they're black, and Luz is both."
.......Lily, fuck you. This is a lie, a straight-up lie. Lily is trying to trick you into thinking that the TOH fandom are sadistic monsters who enjoy watching 14-year-old girls who are also black suffer, and not only is that objectively incorrect, it's also just...so unbelievably gross given the real reasons why people like Luz's depression arc.
Do you want to know why this pisses me off so much? The actual reason why people like Luz's trauma arc isn't because they enjoy watching children suffer, its because aside from it being a realistic and believable depression arc, it also resonates with a lot of people. No joke, apparently there are a lot of people who relate to Luz and see themselves through her. Dana created a depression arc for a character that ACTUAL PEOPLE WITH TRUAMA AND SELF-LOATHING ISSUES CAN RELATE TO.
NOT TO MENTION the fact that a lot of people in the fan base actually sympathize with Luz her and her self-loathing issues. Luz's trauma arc is well-received because it was able to resonate with a lot of people, and the fact that Lily chooses to ignore that in favor of painting the TOH fandom as a bunch of racists who enjoy watching black women suffer is just...disgusting. Fuck you Lily, and I mean that very sincerely.
Oh wait, cuz I'm not done with this! Hunter, a character that has gone through just as much trauma as Luz, and whose trauma is also well received by the fandom as well, Lily just ignores. So its bad when Luz gets traumatized and people like it but when the same happens to Hunter it's ok? Oh wait, I forgot, Hunter is a white boy and Luz is a black girl, that's the difference.
Lily, I'm so fucking sick of your double standards. So its bad when a fandom likes a black girl getting traumatized but when it's a white boy you don't complain and don't go and call them racist? That's stupid.
You probably already get my point by now so I'll just end this section here; Lily's whole narrative of the TOH fandom liking Luz being traumatized because they are sadistic monsters who enjoy watching black girls suffer is both flawed and disgusting, so is her narrative about the fandom wanting to ignore Luz in favor of other characters which is also objectively incorrect. But wait, there is one last video of Lily trying to push this narrative that I have not mentioned yet...
... it's the white favoritism video mentioning Hunter
4. The White Favoritism Video is Garbage and Here's Why
So for this post I decided to go ahead and watch Lily's white favoritism video, specifically the Hunter segments. I went into this video with very low expectations, expecting it to just be Lily repeating the same points she already made over and over again. And...holy shit. This video is AWFUL. Like I knew it was going to be bad, but I was not ready for the amount of bullshit Lily was going to spew. I was left completely shocked and speechless by the end of the second segment at what Lily just said in those two segments.
Time for me to tear apart both of these awful segments. Let's start with the first one, and only 16 seconds in after reinforcing her whole "Hunter is only liked because of fandom shit" narrative, Lily already starts talking bullshit:
"Even his rebelling against an abuser in the canon is undercut by the fact that it's basically a preordained destiny because every golden guard has betrayed Belos."
WHAT????! Hunter would have never betrayed Belos in the first place in if the events of Hollow Mind had never happened, hell when Luz and Hunter saw the memories of Belos doing evil things Hunter constantly tried making excuses for Belos and spent most of it being in denial. And we don't even KNOW anything about the golden guards, maybe they could've eventually realized on their own that Belos was evil, that doesn't undercut Hunter breaking from his abuser!
Then Lily says this:
"Furthermore Hunter ended up being the vector for a lot of people to start caring about Willow, Daruis and Camila, insofar so they could be used to bolster Hunter's character with romance and adoption respectively before this point these characters were ignored or in some cases vilified"
I don't really know about Willow but for Darius and Camila this is just wrong, from what I've heard Camila starting getting popular once the episode Yesterday's Lie premiered, and the reason Darius was vilified before Any Sport in a Storm is because...in he was a villain in the show until this episode showed us he may not be. This isn't racism, Darius's last appearance before this has him as an antagonist, that's why he was "vilified" before Any Sport in a Storm. The rest of this segment is not worth talking about, its just Lily reinforcing her broken narrative about Hunter only being liked because of fandom stuff when that's literally not the reason why he's well-liked as I already explained so now let's move onto the second section...
....the second section is actually worse than the first one. The amount of bullshit Lily was speaking during that three minutes gave me a stroke. So Lily actually starts off by acknowledging the accusations she has been that she only hates Hunter for being white and would've liked him if he was black (which is an undisputed fact), since she constantly complains about him being a boring white boy. How does she respond to this? Does she try to refute this in some way?
....No. Instead, what Lily says next left my jaw wide open as I tried to process wtf I just heard. This is what Lily says:
"When I started criticizing Hunter it came around the time I became a lot more vocally invested in non-white characters and some people in a prime example of desperately trying to give me what they think is a taste of my own medicine came up to me and said with whole pussy "If Hunter was black, you'd like him" with a very simple truth, "If Hunter was black, you wouldn't" "
Holy shit. When I heard this I was at a loss of words. Do I even need to explain why this is awful? Not only is Lily once again accusing Hunter fans of being racist to further her narrative, not only does Lily not even TRY to refute the idea that she dislikes Hunter for being a white boy, but she also even says that if Hunter was black, people wouldn't have liked him...even though Luz, a black girl, is a beloved character in the fandom. Lily cannot gaslight me into thinking otherwise.
Lily then continues to push this idea that if Hunter was black, people wouldn't have liked him:
"If Hunter was black the fandom would not have ignored every skleazy thing he does, like his supposedly best episode according to fangirls that established Huntlow as a ship where...he uses the power the state to kidnap several children and force them to join the magic Gestapo. They would not view this action equally if dark-skinned and stop writing that well actually comment you will not convince me that they would. "
Hmm gee Lily I love how you ignore...
The fact that Hunter meant well and didn't know what he was doing was wrong as he thought that he was doing his friends a favor by getting them into the emperor's coven because of his indoctrination so thus he doesn't exactly know any better.
(And most importantly) The fact that Hunter realizes what he did was wrong and not only takes full responsibility of his actions but also goes out of his way to fix his mistake and get his friends out a situation he put them in AND risked his position as the golden guard AND ALSO was willing to take a lethal strike from Darius just so he could fix his mistake, something that is pretty selfless if you ask me (go check out this post if you want a more in-depth rebuttal to this bullshit claim. It's not directed towards Lily but it basically addresses Lily's whole statement)
Ya Lily I love how like all Hunter critics you just completely ignore that. Now Lily is trying to push this whole "racism" narrative even further, not even trying to give a counter argument to the rebuttles Hunter fans give and just calls them racist by saying "If Hunter was black, you wouldn't be defending him". That's not a good counterargument Lily.
THEN LILY SAYS THIS:
"Furthermore the main issue with Hunter is that the story spends a lot of time with him but spends no time developing him outside of making goofy faces for the internet"
hiuodshuviusdhfiudhfiudshfiuhqweqweqwe HUH?!?! The show doesn't develop Hunter as a character?!?! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?! ARE WE WATCHING THE SAME SHOW!?!? Either Lily's is THAT illiterate of she's deliberately lying. The show DOES clearly spend time developing Hunter, especially in Eclipse Lake, and the very episode that Lily criticized earlier, Any Sport in a Storm where Hunter goes through development and learns to make connections with others and has real friends.
HE GOES THROUGH AN ENTIRE ARC OF BREAKING FROM HIS ABUSER!!!! And no Lily you are not going to gaslight me into thinking that was all just fanon, because its not, its literally communicated within the show, you're just fucking lying. Do I even need to refute this point anymore? Anyone who's watched the show would now this is completely false so lets just move on to the next thing Lily says:
"Making him black wouldn't fix these problems, it would exacerbate them, because now you have a black character you are doing nothing with yet proudly displaying you are doing nothing with him, and that's a problem because its now the third time you've done that"

The show is clearly doing things with Hunter, I already refuted this stuff in my two Hunter posts
Oh, I'm sorry Lily, didn't you say that Hunter being black would make him more interesting?
Skara is a MINOR CHARACTER that doesn't have any real importance to the plot, yet you want to show to focus on her just because she's black? What???
Also, remember the Skara thing for later btw.
"But all this distracts from the real problem, Hunter is only allowed to get away with being such a nothing burger of a character, despite taking up so much screen time because he's white and male. This is the only element of his character that people like and everything else is fanon that they made up. What little there is to his character is just ideas that were stolen from Luz and Amity and yet Hunter eclipses them both in popularity"
Do I need to explain why this point is garbage? This whole narrative that Lily tries to craft revolves around the idea that Hunter is flat and boring and has nothing to his character and nothing to him and isn't interesting and everything that people like about him is just fanon, and ANYBODY who watched the show would know that this is completely objectively wrong.
Lily, will you please stop trying to fucking gaslight people into agreeing with you? Hunter is an abused boy who was groomed and indoctrinated into believing he's doing the right thing and then breaks from his abuser and ends up finding real friends. This is not fanon, these are things being directly communicated within the show, you can not gaslight me into thinking otherwise Lily. The fact that Lily just straight up says that Hunter is only liked for being a white male reinforces the already broken narrative she has about Hunter fans. And once again Luz and Amity are still incredibly popular characters, I don't think I need to talk about this further. This point sucks, lets move onto the next thing Lily says:
"Ironically The Owl House goes to make Hunter a useless non-character because all of his acts of rebellion end up being underwritten by the fact that every golden guard has turned on Belos in the same way. So Hunter isn't even operating on his own accord its just gut instinct"
Lily, can you go five seconds in this video without saying something extremely stupid? Like I already said Hunter wouldn't have betrayed Belos if the events of Hollow Mind hadn't happened because he wouldn't have a reason to, he wasn't just going to wake up one day and say "I'm going to betray Belos for no reason at all!". Also, I'm sorry Lily, wasn't one of your complaints about Hollow Mind that Hunter was in denial for most of the episode??? HOW TF could you THEN turn around and say "Hunter's acts of rebellion were just gut instinct" like??? Hunter spent most of Hollow Mind IN DENIAL of the idea of Belos being evil, just because the other golden guards betrayed Belos doesn't mean its just "gut instinct", their genetic clones, not reincarnations.
And like I already said, we don't even KNOW anything about the golden guards, maybe they could've eventually realized on their own that Belos was evil, that doesn't undercut Hunter breaking from his abuser. Sigh let's just move on...
Now Lily's talking about Skara yaaaaaaaay
"Meanwhile if you like a character who isn't a white guy just because you vibe with them your expected to answer for it. Hunter stans can freely fawn over a character just because he's pasty and blonde as long as they invent pages upon pages of cope. But If I like a character just because their VA is cool and I vibe with their energy I'm expected to justify that like I'm in fucking court. I quite like Skara because her design is cool Kimberly Brooks is one of my favorite VA's and I like this little quasi-recovery arc she's got going on in the background. But butthurt Hunter stans angry about my criticism of the character and always throw that back in my face because those shallow surface-level traits of the character are things I call them out for focusing on"
So now Lily is addressing the whole Skara allegations except she didn't mention what people like me are accusing her of; liking Skara for being a black girl. Call it uncharitable, but Lily has constantly complained about Hunter being a "boring white guy" and explicitly stated that making him black would make him more interesting, and when asked how to fix Skara she basically said to make him a black girl, and since Skara (a black girl) is a character that Lily heavily hyper-fixates on AND straight up replaced Hunter's name with in the season 2 round up video AND since IN THIS VERY VIDEO Lily complains about Skara not getting enough focus despite the fact the show has no reason to focus on her because she's a side character with little importance to the plot, Lily has not beaten the allegations that she hates Hunter for being a white guy and likes Skara for being a black girl.
I'll admit in my second Hunter post I was a bit too uncharitable towards Lily since she has now at least given actual reasons for liking Skara, however Lily has still not beaten the accusations she's getting over liking Skara for being a black girl. There's so much evidence that points towards that and Lily hasn't refuted it at all. Also remember when Lily complained about Skara being another black character who the show did "nothing with"? Well, now she says this:
"This ignores the fact that Skara is a tertiary character and is therefore allowed to be mostly surface level. Hunter is a main character with the exact same level of depth as a background character."
So you admit that Skara is a tertiary character and thus doesn't have much importance yet earlier you complain about the show not focusing on her more??? What????
"You can argue that this is because the show was canceled but when you spend eight episodes doing nothing to progress a character the problem isn't that didn't have enough time"
I'm sorry EIGHT?! Hunter's arc throughout season 2 spans over the course of five episodes, not eight. And once again Hunter isn't doing nothing here the show is developing him as a character every time he appears, but again I already refuted this in my first Hunter post.
After this point, Lily stops talking about Hunter and goes on about how female and non-white characters are nit-picked and people act like you the weird one for not caring about their nitpicks and continues reinforcing her already broken narrative...and also makes a star wars comparison, so the rest of this segment isn't really worth talking about because it's based on points and arguments that I've already refuted. Besides this section is getting long enough already so I'll just end it here.
Good GOD that video was awful. Like, I already had low-expectations going into it expecting to just be Lily repeating the same shit over and over again...and it was, but it was also Lily making some of the WORST critiques of this show I have ever seen. Lily, how do your takes on Hunter STILL suck? The whole narrative Lily tries to build is based on points that anyone who watched the show and payed even a little bit of attention to it would know is completely objectively false.
Literally every single thing Lily says here has something wrong with it, I was NOT ready for the bullshit this video contained...
But ya, you probably get the gist now; this video is awful, and I've now gone through every single point Lily has made about racism in The Owl House and refuted each of them...
...But I'm still not done. Because there is a certain trend I've been noticing throughout these three videos, especially the first and third one...
5. Gaslighting
These next few sections are probably going to be a lot shorter since this abomination of a post has gone on for long enough already, so sections 5-7 will hopefully be quicker. Anyways, a common tactic I've seen Lily use during these videos is gaslighting. This is a manipulative tactic that she uses to try and make it sound like she has a point but when you really look at it, she doesn't.
We can see this with her insisting that Hunter and Amity have no depth where she boils them down to simple character traits (or just straight-up lies) to make them sound shallow. She especially does this a lot with Hunter with the entire narrative of "Hunter is only well-liked because of fanon stuff" which anyone who watches the show would know is objectively wrong. Then there's the whole "spite-based enjoyment" she tries to paint with him, where Lily says that Hunter fans only like Hunter in spite of how he's written. And in her Hunter video she...says this:
"There are a lot of Reylos in Hunter's fan base who are obscenely racist misogynistic and homophobic. And I sure as fuck am not counting them In who I'm talking to today. Hunter is a magnet for fandom racism and misogony, but today I'm talking past those people to people with a very sincere love for the character. You don't love this character for how he's written. You love him in spite of how he's written. And you should be upset that his potential is routinely squandered in favor of just making more shots about him moping and sulking. You should expect better. Everyone would have BETTER if did not waste time on this character doing fucking NOTHING."
Typing that as I listened to Lily's video pissed me off. This narrative is entirely broken once you factor in how all of Lily's takes about Hunter are complete garbage, but even worse, Lily is trying to gaslight Hunter fans who are going to watch her video by saying "If you like this character, you actually don't like him cuz I said so"
Fuck right off Lily. There are real reasons for people to like Hunter that are not fanon things that are being made up, stop trying to gaslight Hunter fans into agreeing with ffs.
Lily also does this a lot with Amity too, insisting that she's just a one-note character with little to her and there is no reason for people to like her so much, when that is not true at all. There are actual reasons people have to like these characters that are NOT being made up unlike what Lily is trying to gaslight you into believing her. This is an incredibly manipulative and condescending way to frame your arguments, that if YOU like a character you actually don't and you should stop pretending that you do.
Fuck off Lily. The show DOES clearly use Hunter to his fullest potential, anyone who watches the show would know that, stop trying to gaslight people with your terrible arguments. Again, read my posts on Lily's takes on Hunter if you want the full context of why none of her takes on him are good, but needless to say Lily really likes to gaslight people into agreeing with her here and that is a VERY manipulative way to frame your arguments.
Oh wait, I'm still not done...because now its time to talk about...
6. "Dana has a white favoritism problem" & Lily's Hypocrisy
Yes, you read the title of this section correctly. In Lily's TOH season 2 round-up video, she says this:
"I know we're all being very charitable to Dana but I think we all need to address the elephant in the room is that The Owl House fandom has a big white favoritism problem and SO DOES DANA"
"Dana is not doing anything to help if anything she's actively making it worse and I feel somebody probably needs to probably sit her down about that and just be like "hey Dana, stop""
.......there is no other way to look at this. There is no other way to interpret this, Lily is accusing Dana of being racist. Now, complaining about a show focusing on white characters too much despite any other reasons a show may have for focusing on these characters beyond racism is one thing, but to accuse somebody of bigotry for focusing on two white characters, ignoring any reasons the show may have for focusing on them beyond racism is just...
I don't even know how to even say it, it's just gross. Once again, there are reasons why Dana chooses to focus on Amity and Hunter as I've already explained, but Lily ignores those reasons and just casually calls Dana racist. Oh, and I'm sorry Lily, but if Dana supposedly had a white favoritism problem, why tf would she make a black Latina girl the main protagonist??? And also develop st. black latina girl a lot throughout the series making her a three-dimensional and well-developed character that a lot of people love and relate to?
Lily ignores all possible reasons that Dana may have for focusing on Amity and Hunter just calls her racist. Wow, as I couldn't have hated you more Lily. Oh wait, but I'm not done with this section, no no.
Now I'm going to be discussing Lily Orchard's hilarious hypocrisy here. I find it incredibly funny how Lily constantly accuses the TOH fandom and Dana of racial bias when she literally hates a character (Hunter) for being a white male. And when she constantly fetishizes black people and explicitly stated once that Hunter would have been more interesting if he was black. I can guarantee you that if Amity and Hunter were black and Luz, Willow and Gus were all white, Lily wouldn't complain about them taking up too much screen time like she currently does, you can't convince me that she would.
Lily so desperately wants to convince us how racist the TOH fandom and Dana are yet she hates a character for his skin color and gender and constantly complains about him being a "boring white guy". This comment from my first Hunter post sums it up best:
"Lily really just desperately needs a character to channel unjustified negativity into so she can act better than the fans who like that character. She found reasons to hate Amity that way too in season 1. She gets obsessive about how the series "could be better" (i.e. the series should do the specific thing that SHE wants even if it's not the creator's vision) and when things don't turn out that way she gets... weird.
Like she shipped WilLuz and was butthurt that the fandom mainly saw Willow and Luz as just friends and recognized that Dana was emphasizing Amity crushing on Luz ... but Lily was like, "How dare they ship Lumity and not WilLuz! This is the racist fandom hating PoCs!!!" without self-awareness to see that no one was being racist but her for assuming that people only shipped a thing they liked because one character looks Caucasian.
She'd get on her high horse and accuse Dana of "white favoritism" for having Amity be important and making the fandom like her... like, the leaps and bounds Lily will go through to turn herself into "the most noble person" in a fandom is shameless. She also would rip on Amity for being derivative of Malfoy or the spoiled girl from Little Witch Academia... when that character trope is what Amity was subverting by showing that Amity had depth beyond her snobby/type-A first impression since after her first impression she almost immediately started to show layers to her character.
I feel like Lily only stopped being so negative to Amity because even she had qualms against crapping on Amity when a) she realized that complaining about Amity being a bully long after Amity had since stopped and atoned for that behavior was getting really old, and b) shitting on one half of Lumity when it was probably one of the biggest, most wholesome LGBT couples in modern animation would be a hard sell for Lily (who as an LGBT person should be less harsh on earnest representation from an LGBT creator).
Along comes Hunter and Lily can't exist without having a designated hate-sink so she projects all her dislikes into Hunter for merely existing. His design being light-skinned and handsome was enough to repel Lily. Him being a genuinely good person who had a troubled life but still perseveres to protect the relationships he's forged... he's pretty much a perfect addition to the cast that kind of adds a missing quality to the series (like how Toph in Avatar the Last Airbender was kind of the special spice that elevated the series for the better by being added to the cast). But ignore all the good his character brings because he's a caucasian-ish character who used to be tricked into being on the bad-side. I'm also sure Lily was furiously spewing venom when she saw that Willow was paired with Hunter, since Lily wanted Willow to be with Luz."
Lily, if you constantly accuse people of being racist for liking a character you don't and also accuse the creator of being racist as well, but solely hate a character for being a white male, then I'm sorry, but nobody here is being racist except for you. (I could also mention her star wars fic but this post is getting long enough so let's just end it here)
7. Conclusion
TLDR for those who don't want to read this entire post:
There are clear reasons why people may like Amity and Hunter that have nothing to do with racism at all
There are also clear reasons why the show may want to focus on these characters due to them being important to the story
Luz is a beloved fan-favorite character and Lily does not give any good evidence to suggest otherwise.
Lily's take that people like watching black women suffer and that's why Luz's truama arc is well-received is completely false as it is well-received due to being able to resonate with a lot of people.
The white favoritism video is fucking awful
A majority of Lily's arguments are just her trying to gaslight you into agreeing with her
Lily complains about the TOH fandom and Dana having racial biases when she is racially biased herself
Lily Orchard remains my most hated YouTuber. She's a shit critic and an even shittier person, and I sincerely hope that one day, Lily's entire channel gets terminated and wiped off the face of the internet, because people like her do not deserve a platform. anyway wouldnt it be fucked up if in the timeline where belos (attempts) to super torture murder bc luz "didnt behavior" if he used vees cell to torture him.
and wouldnt it be REALLY fucked up if vee by some fucked up twist of fate ended up in contact with the torture dungeon again and sees that Someone Else clearly was tortured here. Recently. and she starts Flipping her Shit.
she confronts hunter like "who the fuck was tortured in my place?? shut the FUCK up, look at me- who was down there? what did you fucking do to them? are they even alive?"
and hunter dodges so hard until he relents with "well. im BREATHING arent i."
OUGH.
i was trying to figure out how this might happen and loosely my thoughts are -- the luz amnesia timeline with protective vee. hunter shows up and the nocedas lock him in the basement to keep him from getting reinforcements from the isles. let's assume for the sake of logistics that he has a permanent portal key and vee steals it.
vee's protectiveness of luz overcoming her fear of the isles, so she goes through the portal -- most Likely disguised as hunter, although this could complicate things for her Really Fast if darius and raine are tearing apart the castle looking for him, so maybe in a generic scout uniform instead. she's trying to suss out what the situation on the isles is like & how imminent any danger is to luz. so she goes down to the dungeons because hunter has been So Insistent that things back home are different now & the people who hurt vee won't harm her or luz without belos there
and like. CLEARLY he's lying. because her old cell is FULL of blood.
old blood for sure!! old enough that there's not even any unique scent left to it. but vee's blood is green and this is not. there are still chains on the walls with obvious bits of torn skin against them & it's definitely not snake scales. etc. Yuck
so. she freaks the fuck out. because if hunter lied to her then that means he DOES have plans to hurt/steal/deceive luz. and vee doesn't know what those plans are.
cue vee coming back to the human world & hunter contending with a Very Angry Basilisk Indeed.

Chapter 39 - Epilogue: Donadagohvi
Summary: She studies her husband’s face. It’s lined with age, but still as beautiful and as bright as the day she met him. A/N: Alright, y'all - we've made it! But before we get started, I've got some things I have to say. This fic was started during a very strange era. I hated what was going on in my life but didn't know how to fix any of it. Long story short, but I decided to run away one day, and ended up in Toccoa. While standing in the military museum there, I started thinking about Deborah Sampson (a childhood hero of mine), and wondered what would happen if a story like hers happened during WW2 - specifically, if she was a paratrooper. Thus, Zenie appeared in my brain, and this epilogue wrote itself in my mind as I went through the museum. I was never sure if I would share this fic until the second that I hit "post." Zenie was just a way for me to blow off steam, to escape - to fulfill my desire to be someone else for a bit. (Coincidentally, all themes throughout the fic.) I didn't know how people would respond to this story, or to this character, and I only ever had the courage to start uploading chapters because of friends like @latibvles and @liebgotts-lovergirl who showed enthusiasm for it. So I couldn't upload this chapter without a massive sgi (thank you) to them, as well as to everyone else who has read this fic and been so kind to it, and to me. Thank you for welcoming me into this fandom. Thank you for allowing me to share the Cherokee language with you. Thank you for all the support you've given me for both my writing, and as friends. Eugene looks just the same as he did when Zenie first met him. So do all the other men on this side of the reunion. For her part, she also looks the way she did when she first met all of them – albeit like a girl rather than like a man. For now, her hair is long, and her chest unbound.
No one seems to have figured out why they all look young again, and it has only been mentioned in passing during the reunions. There are better things to do, like visit with those they can, and pass between the ones they left behind, feeling their hearts swell with love as they watch them laugh, watch them remember – watch them live.
Another thing that no one has figured out is why they seem able to come back to this world at certain times. David Webster says he once read that the veil between their worlds thins during certain times of the year, and that maybe this is true of the Easy Company reunions. Zenie, however, likes to believe that it’s the love of the people still living who allow them to come back. All that love with nowhere to go. Love so strong that remembering the people you felt it for brings them back.
No time to wonder now, though. Gene is already smiling at her in greeting.
“Hello again,” he greets as she joins him.
“Gene,” she teases him with an affectionate poke to his ribs. “You haven’t aged a day since I met you in forty-two!”
“Eh, I don’t know about that, Tommy Boy,” Luz’s confident drawl digresses as the radioman swaggers up beside her. “You look a little taller. What, did you finally hit puberty or something?”
Zenie rolls her eyes, but there’s no malice to it. She did, after all, keep him in the dark about her secret until her very last day in Europe. Instead of leading him on, she asks, “How does everyone look?”
“Us? The same as ever. Them? – “ Luz gestures towards the reunion that can’t see them. “ – Well, I guess they’re aging with grace.”
“Have you seen – “
“Bill and Babe are at the bar, as per usual. And your darling husband is somewhere around the middle.”
Zenie takes a step forward before turning quickly to face her friends. “Do y’all mind if I . . . ?”
Gene smiles. “Go ahead. That’s why we’re here.”
Grateful, Zenie takes off through the crowd. Visiting her friends like this is something she always looks forward to, but visiting those she left behind is a rarer treat, and she would like to check up on them. Especially Shifty. 
Bill and Babe – to no one’s surprise – are the easiest to find. They’ve got the bartender in stitches with their jokes, and their own accented guffaws are like a lighthouse cutting through the crowd that makes them easy to navigate towards.
“Siyo, boys!” Though they can’t see or hear her, Zenie takes a seat beside them at the bar. “What’s new with y’all?”  
“They’re drinking everyone under the table, as usual,” a familiar voice beside her announces as none other than Joe Toye takes a seat beside her. His expression is just as relaxed and confident as when they were young, but as he watches their living friends, something like longing flickers behind his eyes. “Too bad that we can’t show them who the real champs are anymore.”
“At least we can visit them.”
Joe nods, smiling sadly. “You made your rounds yet?”
“Not yet.”
“Well, we got time,” her friend assures her. They have nothing but time, actually. And they use it to sit with their friends, laughing along with their jokes and making their own, even though Bill and Babe can’t hear them.
As their jokes turn to remembrances, Zenie finds herself swept up in Babe’s retelling of the time she chucked an apple at Cobb’s head back in Holland. She barely remembers the scene, able to recall only a flash of anger and a split-second decision. Babe’s version is far better – he paints her out to be some sort of knight in shining armor coming to defend the honor of her friends.
Bill shakes his head and chuckles into his drink. “Goddamn. Zee sure could make a scene.”
“You weren’t even there when her secret got out,” Babe notes. “Now that was a scene!”
“No one ever brings it up,” Bill marvels, his eyes roaming over the crowd, searching for something. “You would think everyone would talk about it all the time. I mean – shit! A woman disguised herself as a man and made it from Toccoa to the bitter end before she got found out, and no one at the reunions brings it up.”
Zenie can’t help but smile at that. It’s true – her secret got out, she had to leave in a state of semi-disgrace, but at the Easy reunions, she was usually only acknowledged as Shifty’s wife. Sure, every now and then someone would tell a funny story about Sergeant Driver before throwing a knowing wink in her direction, but after all this time, it’s like they’re still keeping her secret for her. For her own part, she never brings up her service, except to mention in passing that she met her husband during the war. Even her own children seem to be under the impression that she must have been a nurse or a WAC, using that explanation to fill in the story’s blanks. Zenie never confirmed or denied their suspicions.
“Wish she were here,” Babe sighs. He orders another round of drinks, three this time, before placing one in front of the seemingly empty bar stool beside him – unknowingly, right in front of Zenie. He raises his own glass as he offers the last one to Bill. “To Zenie.”
Bill clinks his glass against Babe’s in a toast. “To Zenie.”
“To the best friends I ever had,” Zenie adds. During her last reunion – and even during the last year or so of her life – she could sometimes swear that she could feel a presence that she couldn’t explain. An unshakable feeling that those she loved who were already gone were somehow watching her would wash over her, though she could never explain why she felt that way. Now, she wonders if her friends feel that way about her. Just in case they do, she channels all her love into those words, hoping and praying that they can feel it.
As if on cue, the bittersweet moment ends when a woman with sleek, dark hair approaches the bar, smiling. “Uncle Babe! Are you ready?”
“Luna.” Zenie watches as her daughter throws an arm around each of the men at the bar, her smile just as bright as her father’s, outshining the sun itself.
“The real question is, are you?” Bill teases his goddaughter, cocking an eyebrow. “Don’t forget, kid, that your uncle is a champion jitterbug dancer.”
Luna sizes up the man in question. “Well, I’ve been practicing.”
“Don’t worry about her.” Babe takes one last sip of his drink and waves off Bill’s concerns. “Her mom could have been a champ, too. It’s in her genes; she’ll be fine.”
“The DJ said it’ll be the next song . . .” Luna begins explaining as she hooks her arm through her uncle’s and leads him towards the small dance floor.
Bill watches them go, chuckling to himself. “Real firecracker.” He glances at the drink set out in honor of Zenie. “God, I wish you were here, little brother. It’s not the same without you.”
“I am,” Zenie assures him. She’s only been gone for two years, but things have changed. That might have scared her once. Not anymore. “I have to go find Shifty. You don’t mind, do you?”
Bill doesn’t answer, of course, but it’s polite to ask all the same. Granny didn’t teach her to mind her manners for nothing.
Zenie weaves her way through the crowd of both the living and the dead. She greets several people, stops to exchange a handshake and a kind word, and sends a nod to those who she catches lurking at the edges of the room – people like Liebgott and Captain Speirs, who only show up in the margins of the reunions, watching, but never joining in. She needs to thank those two specifically at some point. But it’s like Joe said – they’ve got time.
As Luz promised, Shifty is seated at a table in the middle of the room. Their sons, Wayne and Willie, sit on either side of him, laughing along with some story that he, McClung, and Popeye are in the middle of telling. Zenie finds a space to stand behind her husband, being as present as she can. She places one hand on Wayne’s shoulder, and the other on Shifty’s.
At the moment of contact, Shifty’s posture stiffens, and his head turns slightly. Zenie freezes, like she’s just disrupted something. Has she? Can he feel her here?
Shifty only listens to the story being told halfheartedly now. He smiles and laughs in all the right places, but it’s obvious that he’s distracted. These reunions are supposed to be fun. Sure, they can get a little emotional at times, but she doesn’t want her husband missing out on her account. He’s still got a life to live. He needs to be in the present moment and enjoy it.
Zenie bends slightly so that she’s close to Shifty’s ear. She doubts anyone else at the table knows that she’s here, but she wants this to be a private moment for the two of them.
“Shifty,” she whispers. “I’m here. I just wanted to make sure that you’re okay.” She has to pause for a moment to think about what she wants to say. It’s one thing to plan what you’re going to tell somebody, and another thing entirely to deliver the message. Sometimes things get lost in translation. She learned that during their break back in the war.
She studies her husband’s face. It’s lined with age, but still as beautiful and as bright as the day she met him. God, she misses him. She misses all of them.
“The boys look well,” she continues, looking between their sons. “I hope they’re taking care of you for me. They’ve always adored you.” She pats Shifty’s shoulder. She shouldn’t take up his attention too much longer. “Take your time. Enjoy it. I’ll be waiting for you, okay? I’ll see you soon, Shifty.”
Not sure if it will work, she plants a kiss on his cheek. When she pulls away, she watches as Shifty’s hand comes up to touch the place where they made contact. Maybe he really can feel her here.
“Gvgeyui,” Zenie says. I love you.
Gene is waiting at the edge of the crowd when she finds him again.
“How’d it go?” He asks.
Zenie nods. “Good. You?”
“Good.” Gene’s dark eyes flick over the crowd. “It’s nice we get to do this.”
It is nice. Bittersweet, mostly, but it’s good to see their loved ones again, even for a short time before they have to go back. But returning isn’t bad, either. The weather is always warm. And there are people she loves waiting for her there.
In fact, she should get going for exactly that reason. Granny wants to dig ramps soon, and Mama informed her that there would be a pie waiting upon her return. No matter which side of the gauzy veil she’s on, there is always someone waiting for her, and always a place that she belongs.
For strength, Zenie takes Gene’s hand and gives it a squeeze. He returns the gesture, and they begin to walk away from the crowd. But before they go, Zenie can’t help but glance back at Easy Company one last time. Her eyes, as always, land on Shifty. She’ll see him again. She’ll see them all again, in one way or another.
“Until we meet again,” Zenie informs them all, whether they can hear her or not. “Donadagohvi.”

I feel like I remember you mentioning Luz inheriting Owlbert as her palisman instead of Stringbean a while back (I've checked but nothing comes up, so idk if I'm just imagining this or tumblr is just being tumblr lol) and if you did, how would that work exactly? I'm very intrigued by it, but I wonder how it would play into the story, especially if Eda stays alive. I'm curious to hear your thoughts!
(Sorry if you haven't haha, I just remember reading somthing about it and I'm 70% sure it was you but..)
This is kind of both where I've mentioned it, so Tumblr should be able to bring it up, but I've never talked in depth about it I think. Let's fix that here.
So I still believe this take. The core premise is that it is a passing on of who Eda once was to someone who can now hold her rebellious torch. For Luz it is true acceptance of her being Eda's apprentice and her daughter, a family heirloom effectively passed on. Also, Owlbert would have been carved while Eda was still at her most rebellious and probably has missed the side of Eda that could do a lot of that but the curse tamped down and now Momma Eda just can't act on as much. Not like Luz. Owlbert is also more family for them than Stringbean literally had time to be. All of this is thematically WAY stronger than almost anything to do with Stringbean, leaning into new homes, found family and the mentor/student side of the show. I've DEFINITELY talked about why Stringbean doesn't work though, as cute as they are.
All of this would also have paid off the Owlbert episode in S1 or felt like it was happening already with how Luz kept borrowing Owlbert in early S2. She was growing a bond with the palisman and Owlbert is even why she's able to trick Belos during the S1 finale because otherwise she wouldn't have been able to activate the glyphs remotely.
This is also without getting into the fact that once Eda has Harpy Mode... She just doesn't need Owlbert. She can fly, she uses glyphs, it's potentially dangerous for her to use her old friend who might still want to spread their wings, etc. like that. The palisman is no longer required, kind of like how we don't see Lilith's palisman in the finale because she has her own wings now. I am happy they have their wings but... Are their palisman just being left at home, without their companions?
That starts getting kind of close to why the Bat Queen didn't trust Luz in S1. And hey, it would have been a GREAT way to end Hunting Palisman. Rather than a brick of wood that was going to take a REALLY smart hand to make eventually work without either feeling awkward in execution or feeling pointless because whatever Luz said was going to end up feeling like something she could have said here, both of which are Stringbean frankly, it's that Owlbert comforts her. Eda sees this, smiles, frowns then shuts her eyes. When they open back up, it's to Luz and Owlbert, now in first person perspective from Eda's eyes, looking up at her and asking if she's okay. She wipes her tears, knowing what's right for her friend and her daughter and tells Luz that until she figures out what she wants, what fits her, she can use Owlbert. He has been getting a little chubby sitting around The Owl House after all and she's more likely to keep him from getting into mischief. Owlbert hoots in indignation while Luz puffs out her chest and goes "And what if I want to get into Mischief?" and Eda just smiles before saying that then they BOTH can keep each other out of trouble.
It's a genuine Mentor/Student moment that also has SO many shades of when someone hands down the old car that's been around for so long and meant so much to the older generation. Now it can be useful and ride anew with the sons and daughters who originally ran those tires into the ground. How it can cause mischief all anew while the old generations also knows how reliable it can be.
It even fits with what Luz's statement is eventually. "I want to be understood." Why not the family who took her in and showed so much understanding? Hunting Palisman is one of the genuinely good moments for Luz, Eda and King, brief as it is, in part because it is showing so much understanding of Luz. That she would appreciate the gesture, needs time, needs opportunity and doesn't need pressure. But that understanding never really goes anywhere. Eda never passes anything on to Luz. She barely ever teaches her anything, even when that was ostensibly what the show was about. This could have at least been a gesture bringing the elements closer together, rather than keeping them apart.
Instead, even when the family is all together to fight Belos, Owlbert just... Isn't there. He's gone from the finale until the endings start. Someone who always protected Luz, helped her, even back in the first episode when Eda tries to send Luz away with Owlbert and he's just... gone. Left by the wayside like so many elements that seemed to matter at one point.
Left to rot like so many abandoned palisman. That doesn't feel like how things should have gone. Not when there was so much to be gotten out of keeping him around.

With having just watched episode 4 of “My Adventures with Superman” and thus completing my “3 episodes to WOW me” test, I can safely say that I like it and I highly recommend it. (the 1st 2 eps is a 2-parter and I count multipart episodes as 1 since it’d be unfair to count half or a third of a story on it’s own, thus waiting till ep4)
Clark Kent is the lovable puppy himbo that we all know he is. Just a humble kid from Kansas who wants to help people, track down a story for the Daily Planet and saves cats from trees no matter how late he is. This being early Superman, it’s great to see him develop and learn about his powers overtime instead of being godmode almost immediately like in a lot of modern adaptations. For those that think that Clark is acting a little too nervous really need to go back to the earlier works and watch how actors like Christopher Reeves played Clark. Just a nervous, shy but good person who doesn’t draw attention to himself.
Lois Lane was a change that a lot of people didn’t see...especially that she is strikingly similar to Luz Noceda (tho’ Lois is Korean in this) but that doesn’t matter after a while since your quickly won over by how determined she is to break a big story and prove that she’s a real reporter instead of just an intern. Her and Clark having pretty much a “crush at first sight” type relationship is pretty cute in this as while it seems to be moving fast, it’s also taking it’s time... however the ending of episode 4 might toss a wrench in that for a bit. Lois is still that overeager ace reporter we all know except that she’s still got a lot to learn until she gets to the ace reporter we all know.
Jimmy Olson being a conspiracy theorist (a fun one, not the losers we have now) is an interesting change and I’m waiting to see how far they take this and what it’ll do to help the story along. Granted that for a bit of the Clark and Lois romance, Jimmy knows that they like each other but at the same time is fulfilling the typical anime 3rd wheel and interrupting things, tho’ not maliciously. Him and Lois have a neat dynamic together and him being best friends and roommates with Clark makes sense and hopefully we get an episode showing how they met and became friends.
The villains have been neat takes on the classic ones, like  so far we have Livewire, Deathstroke, Parasite, Ivo, Silver Banshee. I’m actually very glad we haven’t gotten Lex Luthor yet because I’m so sick of the movies using him as the main villain for Superman. I know that Lex is the Joker to Superman’s Batman but it’s great that the other villains are getting a chance to shine without Lex around. Also just like with my mentioning that this is early Superman, that also means the villains aren’t the villains that we know, I’ve seen so many people complain that they “ruined” Deathstroke by anime-ifying him but they forget that this isn’t the Deathstroke we know, this is before the orange/black mask and getting his ass kicked by teenagers on the regular. Let these things build up, y’all. (Also, I’ve seen ppl wanting to see this show’s version of Bruce Wayne and like, c’mon. let Superman have something without the Bat for at least another season)
So yeah, I highly recommend this show atm

Shows That Have Been Canceled!
Buckle up because this is a long one but it's worth it. This brought two shows to mind. One show was The Owl House on Disney Plus and the second was Julie and The Phantoms on Netflix.
If you are familiar with shows such as Gravity Falls then you are already familiar with some of the people on The Owl House. I will try to keep the description of the show short as I could go on FOREVER about this show and it is one of my current top favorites (possibly favorite). In brief, it is about a girl Luz Noceda who doesn't quite fit in. One day she accidentally stumbles across a demon realm where she meets Eda The Owl Lady and decides to live out her dream of becoming a witch just like Azura in her favorite books "The Good Witch Azura". However, being a human this proves to be a lot harder than she thought. The show follows her adventures through the Demon Realm unfolding a much darker story as the show continues. If you haven't watched it, I 10000% recommend it. Sadly, as this show was about to reach it's third season Disney decided it was not going to continue it... but was generous enough to give it a final three episodes. FANS WERE OUTRAGED! There were so many theories as to why it was canceled and I am not even completely sure which are true. Some of these theories included having a queer relationship and LGBTQ+ representation, others theorized that because the show came out around the time of COVID it was a budget thing (which doesn't make complete sense because Disney is HUGE). The main thing people had to go on was Disney's claims that the show no longer "fit their brand". I will admit as disappointing as this was the ending was beautiful. The writers did a beautiful job of making us cry and laugh as they tied up the story while integrating plot points in small ways that were supposed to be full episodes. One thing I will forever be upset that the story was robbed of however, is a Hooty back story. Hooty was this owl...? Demon? Thing? Yes? that was the owl house itself and lived in the door. He was a disturbing but also really funny character and just looking at him raises so many questions.
Another show that came to mind was Julie and The Phantoms. This show was on Netflix and was directed by Kenny Ortega (director of High School Musical, Descendants, and a lot more). This show is a very different concept and hard to explain without watching the show. It followed a girl Julie who recently lost her mom. She loved music but it hurt too much to play as her mom also had loved music. Until one day she finally decides to go into the garage space her mom used to play in and plays for the first time since she passed away. Little did she know she was not alone. She discovers a band of three boys living in her garage? Except they're not exactly alive. They had passed away young due to a street hot dog incident. The show follows Julie and the band as they discover that only Julie can always see them but for some unknown reason when they perform together they are visible to everyone. The show ends on a massive cliffhanger with some trouble from a ghost antagonist who wants the band to perform for him forever. Although there is hope!! There is rumors and hints from the cast that the show may continue and be picked up by another company! The reasons for canceling this show are even more unknown than The Owl House. The show continues to be fairly popular, was directed by one of the most beloved directors of my generation, and has a sound track that will get stuck in your head for days! But, it may also just be Netflix living up to it's reputation of nixing shows before they really even have a chance to become something but who knows.

he would be... so so confused, and may even almost out himself as a witch to other people... thankfully, no one seems to suspect the literal imp on his head
in fact as a funny little haha/reasoning, lets simply say people think hes cosplaying some obscure character or oc that people dont really know about and frewin is just a really really well made prop/accessory

i think he would initially freak out, i mean who wouldnt? you literally travel across into a new world that youve never been to; and likely would never go to (at least not until the very end of the show where you gain the option to, but thats late in your life, you know?) add in the culture shock aaaaand
but i think, given how bump is in times of stress (cough cough the literal attack on hexside with adrian as well as opening the school to the students during the day of unity) i think he would pull himself together to maneuver around
doesnt have human money and im not sure how many places would take snails, so options are very limited for stuff; cant go no where that charges you nor can he buy anything
maybe its the fact hes an old man, or maybe i just love the idea, but i think he would hang around the park and sit on a bench trying to come up with ideas on how to get back to the boiling isles

as a little bonus hc before i tie this up imagine luz; either before or after getting stuck in the isles (before the portal door was destroyed at the end of season 1 since it seemed to cut off her internet connection to the human world) or sometime during her return to the human realm... whatever im dragging this out but like basically how funny would it be if luz comes across this picture of bump while scrolling human social media

If I remember correctly, you have mentioned that you are a big fan of literary tropes. Can you tell us what are some of your favorite tropes, least favorite tropes and what tropes you'd like to see more?
This one might be fairly long:
Anyone who knows me fairly well knows I'm literate largely because of comics. It's what my dad had around, so naturally, I'm a bit superhero/fantasy/fiction brained, but my dad is also a latin teacher, so I've been reading Homer, Livy, Herodotus, and Plato for probably longer than I should be. So, genre-wise, I tend to stick to writing/consuming fiction, usually fairly grounded in reality, with superhero stuff tending towards the top of the list.
Some of my favourite literary tropes are "The Self-Chosen One", "The Power of Friendship," and "The Sacrificial Lion".
"Self-Chosen Ones" are kinda self-explanatory, but have some chunky nuance to them. The archetypical "self-chosen one" is Sir Gawain, who chooses to take a challenge that would've otherwise fallen to his king, which ends up roping him... into a bisexual throuple? His isn't as chunky as like, Luz Noceda, who chose to take responsibility for her mistakes and for the people she empowered, or Moana, who rejects her destiny on the basis of destiny and chooses herself to prove TO herself that she can.
Marco, from Adastra, is an interesting instance of this, because the specifics of his "being chosen" were structured in such a way that he super WASN'T necessary. With Luz and Moana, there was... a remarkable lack of people hanging around to solve the plot, so by the Rules Of Stories, they kinda had to take things upon themselves, because otherwise... there's no story. Of course, Marco also had to go forward because PLOT, but 1. Not without grappling with the decision 2. At the detriment to his own health (his near-decapitation) and 3. They clearly outline why he made the choice he did, and also kinda... leave it tenuous on purpose. Very good way of using the trope for a tragedy.
"The Power of Friendship" is less of a trope and more just a reflection of the truth, that humans work well on their own, but will always work better, be happier, and thrive best with other people around them, helping and supporting them. The more direct invocations of this, like in MLP or Yugioh are kinda one of those guilty pleasures, even though I'd argue against the guilty part.
But less overt instances of it, like in Castlevania, when Alucard goes Fucking Nuts because Trevor and Sypha leave. The Avatar Gang and their whole "do you ever wonder if friendships can transcend lifetimes?". There are several instances of "you hurt my friend, time to die" in Invincible that honestly do a lot to keep me going despite the horrific nature of some of the fight scenes.
The most notable one that really got me was the "Loner realizes he has friends and allies" arc in TOTK, because I've clocked. About as many hours on BOTW as I have breathing, and it really does FEEL LONELY AND EMPTY, and that never FELT that way until TOTK came along and my nephew (Tulin) gave me the whole "We're stronger together" bit. I cried.
"Sacrificial Lions" are a little less obvious as to what they are, but the general gist is "a character who exists in the narrative as a heroic bastion of hope, who will be killed or die to further the narrative". Rose Quartz, Pyrrha Nikos, and most versions of Leomon I know about fit this category, as well as, like. Jesus lol.
I've... always liked heroic sacrifices it seems like the best way to really end a heroic character's life, and while I've reexamined that SPECIFIC point, I'm still a lover of the idea. Altruism is a very worthy thing, but I also like how these characters can haunt the narrative, almost always, to the point of making the cast Really Change. Rose is, of course, the inciting incident to an entire show, as her death lines up all of the pins that Steven has to kick over now.
Idk, I'm a fan. I also love it when narrative foils kiss.

I’m so nervous to watch the finale. I’ve been considering just not watching it because I don’t want to come away angry and hate the show because of what they ended up choosing for Hunter. I’m not sure I can watch it. I tried rewatching for the future and it makes my chest hurt now I can’t even watch it
Oh god I feel you there. Honestly I never managed to watch For the Future, I wanted to but every time I thought about it it just get filled with dread ☠️ I decided to wait until the last episode came out, bc if they keep it vaguely implied the way it has been then I’ll be able to ignore it and enjoy the episode, but I don’t want to get blind sighted if it does go full canon.
as it is, through my lense of relating to Hunter, it feels the same as when I would mistake infatuation with romantic attraction. I spent a long time very confused over whether the feelings I’d experience with my good friends were crushes lol (spoiler they weren’t) I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to know when I was experiencing actual romantic attraction vs just a “friend crush.” Willow is his first really close friend without a sibling dynamic. It’s fun and exciting to be around her and all he knows is that the swell of feelings in his chest is a different sensation than what he experiences with Luz or Gus, but it isn’t actually a crush. I’m just PRAYING that it’s left as is because I want my Hunter Noceda content. 🥺
Honestly the most frustrating part for me is the way characters are portrayed as the de facto Most Important Person™ to each other by virtue of being romantic partners. It’s a specific trigger for me because I had to overcome the internalized belief that being Aromantic meant I’d always come second bc everyone I care about would eventually find someone more important to them. so when I see people claiming Hunter trusts Willow the most, or that Willow understands him in a way the others don’t I get irrationally annoyed. Like Luz is RIGHT THERE knowing Hunter better than anyone.
I despise the way such a large portion of the fandom brushes Luz to the side in favor of Huntlow when Luz is such an important part of Hunter’s story.
I’m the Quadruple A (Aro Ace Autistic Adhd) and I’m super close with both my sisters, so I do take it personally 😅😅

3. Favorite episode? Why? Ramble as much as you'd like.
Man, this one's really hard because TOH has SUCH good episodes, but I'm going to have to go with what I believe is ultimately the popular answer and say Hollow Mind.
It's just so well done, it's been said again and again but the way they make the reveal of past foreshadowing (Belos being Philip Wittebane, Hunter being a grimwalker) is SO good. Even if you knew or strongly suspected, the way they do it makes it so the impact is perfect, both on the plot going forward and the emotional impact it has on the characters as well (like even if Luz doesn't immediately crumble like Hunter does, you can tell it gets to her and it starts building up overtime until it gets to her being full of guilt and straight up suicidal which... uh oh).
The way they make use of established lore with the mindscape, the foreshadowing and more lore we get for the future (wooo for Wittebanes lore but rip for Flapjack) is just so damn cool. Even while filled with dread while watching, the episode is just so engaging to watch that you can get pretty much focused on it during rewatches as well.
Plus, when it comes to more self-indulgent feelings, Hunter finally getting out from the castle and away from Belos + the papa wold Dadrius moment are just too good for me not to enjoy it. Oh! And on that note, Hunter straight up having a panic attack when they got out of the mindscape also was 10/10 for me, because I'm just not used to media addressing how traumatizing some situations can be for the characters, ngl, I was SO happy to see it and even happier when it continued in Labyrinth Runners, as weird as it sounds.
6. A character you didn't expect to love? What made you start liking them?
Not in a dislike sense at all, but definitely Darius lmao.
I vaguely remember seeing him for the first time and thinking "oh, he's so fun, he has such a cool design as well, and his voice is pretty, it's a shame he's a villain. Anyway-" and just continuing being invested in the Raeda disaster happening right there.
Truly I also found his abomination transformation the coolest thing I've ever seen, but in my mind it was like "we're surely not seeing much of him, oh, well" (which is sadly true, but not in the way I thought), so with such an "unimportant" character, there was no way for me to get invested or love him, right?
WRONG. Dadrius attack.
Listen. Listen. I liked him as a character but not so much as a person, I suppose, though again I never hated him because there was just so little of him for that to happen. But then Any Sport in a Storm happened and watching him doing the Head Chop™️ to Hunter was like "god, I hope this doesn't awaken anything in me".
I think from that moment I started toying with the possibility of him adopting Hunter because I was desperate so it was half joking, half serious and as such, I started thinking more about him as well, which eventually ended up with me and my thousand headcanons and theories about him, his backstory and such. As it happens when you're a Darius fan, it's rough out here.
7. Has the show ever made you cry? What scene(s)?
I cry. so much.
So TOH absolutely got to me. I think the first scene that got to me was the one that gets to everyone, Eda thanking Luz for being in her life and telling her goodbye before transforming into the Owl Beast.
And then you know, Season 2 is life ruining /lh.
So I cried in Separate Tides in the same part Luz wants to cry lmao, I cried in Eda's Requiem, I cried in Reaching Out, I cried in O Titan, I cried in King's Tide.
Shoutout to me crying also at Hunter talking about being unable to trust himself in Labyrinth Runners, and I still can't watch Keeping Up A-fear-ances without crying, that one's hitting a little too close to home for comfort, frankly lmao.
I think the rest is also very predictable, Thanks to Them when Flapjack died, For the Future during Camila and Luz's conversation and Watching and Dreaming when Luz dies and pretty much the whole scene with the Owl Trio fighting together, plus the ending. Like I said, I cry a lot.
12. What do you consider the most memorable scene? Why?
Another hard one.
Objectively speaking, I feel like there are two super memorable scenes: The repetition of Luz's speech about "I'm the good witch!" through the show and the way it gets recontextualized each time, from it being just kinda silly and about her using it as escapism a little bit, to her using it to reclaim her belonging to the two worlds she chose for herself and her identity as part of them with all the people she loves.
I would call that one probably the most memorable one. I think the other that everyone remembers, which is why I would say it's memorable as well, is Eda telling Luz the whole thing about how everyone was to be chosen, but if one just waited for that, they'd die waiting, that you have to choose yourself. Even more memorable since it came back during Watching and Dreaming.
Personally, definitely less sweet and less overall plot important, but a scene that haunts me forever and ever is the palisman souls in Belos' Mind finally reaching Luz and Hunter and the reveal that they're palisman souls in the first place: It's so damn chilling when they start talking with the whole "danger! get away from him! run!". Just... holy shit. Okay, that makes me one to cry too, we have established I'm a crybaby ajsfjsdg
I'm just... the amount of compassion for them to be suffering like that and to go "this happened to us, he killed us, please, get away, we don't want him to kill you too, we don't want you to suffer too", especially considering that Hunter had accidentally contributed in some of those deaths. I'm gonna go cry some more, actually, bye asfhsdg

I can't think of any specific question but I just really wanna know about the epithet erased toh au. I love both of those things so much.
lucky for you i love talking about both of those things! typing this on mobile tho so im sorry if the formatting is weird
so for starters the epithet characters are going to the isles from their home universe- i havent figured exactly how or why and im vaguely saying another inscribed did it for now. i dont really care about semantics in these sorts of aus usjfjs. they get sent in intervals and end up with different members of the cast.
molly arrives first and, on instinct, think she's trapped in another of lorelai's dream bubbles. she tries to dumb her way out of bonesborough but comes to realize that all of this is. VERY real. hunter realizes there's another human on the isles and thinks, "oh! this'll make my uncle who doesnt hate me happy! come with me!". molly freaks out and runs, and is saved by the bell (the bell being luz with an invisibility glyph.) and taken to the owl house. she explains her situation to everyone there and is allowed to stay until they can figure out how to get her home. she doesnt explain epithets because she doesnt know it would be necessary to do so
sylvie lands in the isles next. he tries his best to adapt to the lifestyles present, wearing his hood up to cover his ears. hes eventually found by raine who takes him in with the batts, and hes GOING to narc on their rebellion before the scope of whats going on is revealed. he like VERY upsettedly resigns himself to a life of crime and manages to nab a palisman from the emperor's reserves (antics occuring with guards all the while involving sleep powder and beefton). he's undercover as the Black Sheep Witch and wearing a cloak to protect his identity pretty quick after raine picks him up. they end up getting on. raine thinks hes a very bright young man :)
giovanni's up next- this is post prison of plastic so he's in vincent murder persona now. as soon as he arrives he starts a scene in bonesborough and ends up being captured by the emperor's coven (not without a fight! nobody on the isles knows what a tomato tastes like so they buy into the lav-acid stuff). when sylvie learns hes caught in the conformitorium hes like UGH. and when raines like oh theres another human staying with eda now do you know her (shows a pic) hes like UGH. he busts giovanni out and since raine cant really be. directly involved with eda sylvie has to drop gio off there. they have a long conversation on the palisman-ride over where they learn to respect each other a little more before sylvie lets gio off and asks him not to tell molly that hes here as well. itd cause more trouble than its worth. then giovanni and molly have a tearful reunion after he almost gets torn asunder by hooty
mera and indus take on a more minor role but when mera arrives shes in TERRIBLE pain and there is NO modern medicine afoot. indus has to run off and search for a healer and ends up finding emira, who heals mera and offers to let the two of them stay in amity's little room in the library. they do this, amity passes the message onto luz that there are more humans in the library, and them and molly/giovanni almost kill each other before they come to an agreement and truce until they can get home. mera gets that sweet sweet healing magic while shes here too- obviously it wont get rid of her epithet (which isnt something she wants in the first place) but having your broken bones be this fixable is REALLY nice, especially in a place that loves to break bones at every turn
trixie and phoenica land next. hunter actually manages to get them to belos this time because phoenica is nice and trixie will go along with her for stuff, and when they get to the throne room philly boy lies through his teeth about how Cool And Awesome his plans for the day of unity are and how they can stay with him until theyre able to get home. phoenica is really excited and trixie. uh.
trixie can see the ghost of every single grimwalker AND caleb surrounding philip's throne. they wave off concern when philip asks her abt it but caleb KNOWS she can see them, and follows her back to her room. trixie wants nothing to do with dou rebellion plans and is already scared as is but caleb does not leave her alone because they are the ONLY PERSON HERE who can see him. he becomes her weird anarchist ghost uncle and they end up feeding information to the batts through sylvie (very hard to keep that part under wraps because of the whole. phoenica future husband thing)
ANNND finally lorelai shows up and manages to pretty successfully assimilate with witch society because of augment. gives herself pointed ears dresses up as a witch. she manages to get heckled into a coven and a sigil (she joins illusions) without realizing what this entails, and since augment already has to do with illusions she doesnt notice anything weird happening. when she and molly meet again itll be REALLY fun
i dont have too much in the way of specific episodes plotted out in full but i WILL say that molly is present for hollow mind...do with that what you will

Thoughts on the collector following WAD (this is a long one buckle up)
I will talk about the finale as a whole later (it was great fyi I loved it), but right now something that has been bugging me for a while \that has finally just become impossible for me to ignore about this show is that I really don't like the collector.
Maybe I'll get a ton of shit for this, but whenever he got his physical form in Kings Tide, I just couldn't see the point of introducing such an important character into the story the way they were three episodes before the show was over.
The collector also had a very large inconsistency in characterization between the "shadow" and physical version of himself, the former being more demeaning and more rooted in chaos, while the latter was more akin to a young innocent child. This confliction made him feel even less enthralling as a character, it made him just feel like a prop to move the plot forward.
This was ever more apparent in the finale too.
I know considering the circumstances, the finale had to be rushed, there was no way to get around that. But honestly the collector just felt so pointless to the story that after the finale ended I wished that he was never even in the story to being with. For a character this big with so much lore potential to only have under a minute of screen time devoted to exploring said lore as it related to overarching story was super disappointing.
With that said here's what I think what could've been done WITHOUT the collector ever having been introduced to the story:
-Belos is the ONLY villain, he is the cause for all of the problems in the specials, and time that would've been spend with the collector and king is spent on Belos' past and more information on the isles themselves
-The day of unity in King's tide would be stopped by Eda while the circle of coven heads which stops the spell in the middle of it, people are still weakened so that is an issue, Belos would be goopy from an attack from a different major character, still falls on Hunter's shoulder and is stuck in the human realm [cue ttt]
-Everyone returns to the BI following ttt, people are not hiding from the collector but rather are too weak to be able to do anything too grueling (Hunter is not affected by this as he does not have a bile sack). Belos still tries to find a body to possess
-School events are the same, but no more of the kikimora/boscha stuff is shortened. The separation with Camila+Luz, Amity+Matt, and Guz+Hunter+Willow remains the same as well the interactions.
-Meanwhile King is having some sort of Titan awakening (getting wings or a new type of power something like that), which is an adventure on his own, he is trying to find Eda and Luz as he experiences this. Eda isn't weakened by the spell since her arm literally got ripped off so she's busy trying to find a way to heal everyone and help fix the isles (can be related to the students) her and King meet up at some point and vow to find Luz
-Belos actually possesses one of the Caleb clones (I'm so PISSED he didn't do that there was so much potential there) and he trudges his way back to the castle because he's already decided to possess the titan itself (in a realization that because everyone is weakened obviously no one will fight back)
-Eda takes notice of him climbing his way into the titan and follows him distantly in Harpy form
-The gang has reunited at this point inside the titan itself like in the actual episode (just not broken), and so they are perfectly placed to be able to fight Belos head on, Ftf would end with the gang's reunited in the skull hearing a rumble underneath their feet as Belos takes over the body after besting Eda and making it to the heart
-Now it's time for the finale, and instead of the entire group expect for Luz immediately being thrown to the side, they actually get their time to shine in a fight to try and get Belos off the heart. We get cool animation, it's great, until Camila is about the get struck by Belos, we get Luz sacrificing herself but with more meaning to it, and the gang decides they need to retreat before anyone else gets hurt
-Everyone mourns Luz, and then Eda takes notice, which is when Eda meets Camila, and they have a heart to heart over Luz. Queue a different version of the scene where the gang decides to use glyphs instead of their tired magic, but with more time
-We have a scene of Luz meeting the titan like usual, they speak and instead of collector lore we hear about how kind to the isles Luz was and how great she was to King, she's brought back to life etc etc
-Luz appears in front of the gang in her titan form, and she goes with just Eda and King to defeat Belos, basically the same as the original scene. on the split side the rest of the gang is working to keep the people of the isles from getting hurt while the titan is moving using glyphs
-Luz saves the day and then just like the actual episode Philip shows up one last time, but with the whole gang (including Camila). Instead of him immediately dying, Luz and the others take the time to ask questions, which he answers as he is threatened. From this we could get more wittebane brother lore+flashbacks, a confirmation on evelyn being a clawthorne, and even a petty huntlow scene. THEN the rain comes and he dies while everyone watches
-After that they somehow find a way to help the people on the isles and then everyone meets again (raeda kiss of course we were robbed in actual wad)
-This is more general but I think with what time was used in the previous episodes with the collector could've been focused on Belos' glyph knowledge instead
-After that it's about the same, but we have more time for the timeskip so they can take more time with it.
Wow this ended up being way longer than I thought but yeah I really do think the show would've been a little better without the collector. I didn't mean to rewrite all of s3 but oh well I guess.
