#1 - Batman

he looks so naked without his panties on top of the costume. in the films too, but it's a lot weirder when drawn

ok so, unlike the man of steel one, apparently the people who made the film had no real input in the prequel comics

hmm, i don't like what this implies.

you see, i'm actually one of the rare specimen that really likes batfleck. and i actually think it does make more sense, in this universe, for him to be more violent, and even murderous. and i'll probably talk more about this later, but one thing i'll say now is that the catalyst for his aggression to be the metropolis battle makes absolutely no sense

and the rest of the issue is just batman beating up everyone. ok, at least these are short, then

#2 - Lois Lane

really wish they'd let amy adams dye her hair for the role, having a lois that looks like lana is so fucking weird

just remembered how much i hate that we didn't get any actual superman daily life in the superman film. and then the next one already jumped to another super atypical situation, and all we got of regular superman was that weird montage that i'll complain more about when actually speaking bvs

DCEU Rewatch Rant Hour

With 100% DCU stuff (like Creature Commandos and Superman promo) finally coming out and my year-end work break starting, I realised this was the time to finally stop postponing watching the rest of the DCEU (especially since some of it is actually still canon and actively being referenced). And, since I'm already here, why not rewatch the whole thing!

This is actually not a liveblog, since I'm making my brother and my friend (user getawaykiss) watch the thing with me, but after each film I'm coming here to rant about how I feel about them now, in this day and age.

So, first offender:

Man of Steel (2013)

Except I lied! First I'm gonna talk about the Man of Steel Prequel comic! That's right, I'm including fucking extra material on this rewatch!!

so, the thing is on rco if you're interested in it, and it is pretty interesting! it stars kara!!!!! it was clearly written with the intention to be not only canon but relevant, which sounds crazy now but was pretty common back in the day. the mcu did it loads. it's actually not that different from what the dcu is trying to do with animations, if you think about it.

but considering kara is blonde in it it clearly didn't hold up.

anyway, there's a whole plot involving murder in the jungle and then something that's basically that one chris pratt/jlaw film but not treated as romantic. but what's relevant is that kara is a pilot leading a mission to terraform and colonise another planet, who ends up actually landing on earth for reasons. and her ship is, in fact, that one in the film that the military finds in the ice and then clark and lois get into (and then becomes the fortress of solitude??? i think???). anyway, kara survives the landing and goes out wandering the arctic, and that's the last we see of her. going by the film, this happened over 18000 years ago, though, so i guess there were no plans to have supergirl on the big screen then. but anyway, kara was actually super relevant for the mos plot! technically! oh and they also mention thanagar!!!! they call it "barbaric", but idk enough about the hawks to have an opinion on this.

so, did i like it? eh, it's ok. it's a bit rushed, but prequel comics usually are. i'm glad i've only read it now, because it makes it seem like kara is going to be relevant for the franchise and i'd be soo disappointed she wasn't. though i guess she ended up being even more relevant than they intended to while writing that, considering she at least shows up on-screen. but i'd like to pretend the comic is still canon and that blonde kara zor-el from thousands of years ago is just a distant relative, that maybe even inspired the name the later zor-el gave to his daughter.

the pilot-on-a-mission background is really interesting, though, i'd love to see it explored in an alternative universe. maybe they could do something similar in absolute? idk much about absolute krypton, but the darker tone fits, at least.

now for the actual film!

oh god it's so bad. i know this is exactly why they gave it to him but jesus fucking christ zack snyder SHOULD NOT be trust with a superman film. he did not want to be making a superman film, he wanted to be making fucking independence day or whatever. it has so many unnecessary stuff, like the action scene in krypton (it could've easily just been what jor-el shows clark in the ship later on, but then we wouldn't have the alien dragon and the magical engraved skull!!) and all the army stuff, oh my god, there was so much army stuff - and yet no army brat lois????? which is literally the only thing the army should have to do with superman???? and is so important to lois' personality???? must be why she doesn't have any.

though, to be fair, clark has even less. the flashbacks and the scenes with martha are doing so much heavy lifting, holy fuck, this man does not have a personality, we don't know fucking anything about him!!! half of the film is him wandering around and doing random things with random people, and the only one that actually gives him any depth is the truck thing - which ironically happens off-screen, and which was done SO much better in superman ii. like, i get the odd jobs montage was supposed to show how he can't help but help people, but there were so many ways you could've done this better. not to mention they then turn around and have him actually save people in the suit like fucking three times total???? he saves an army guy, and lois (maybe twice) and then the family zod was going to kill, and that was fucking IT!!!!!!! and he's so absurdly careless while battling zod, destroying buildings full of people like it's nothing instead of just taking the fight somewhere else (like he did in superman ii), and yet you still have zod going "oh if you care so much about these people-" like, i don't think he does, actually!!

in fact, throughout the entire film, everyone - even clark, when he's with lois at the cemetery - keeps telling us how bad the people of earth are, and how badly they're going to treat him if they know he exists, and maybe he should just let a bus full of kids drown and his own dad walk into a tornado, because people just fucking suck and can't be trusted! and then!! it never makes a point of disproving this!!!!! the closest thing there is, i guess, is the scenes with the daily planet staff helping each other scape the rubble, but that's just them taking care of their own. and it even makes a point to end with the army trying to track him, like akldslfn imagine making a fucking superman film where the underlining message is that humans are awful, i-

and the thing is, we are sometimes!! but not all the time!!! and superman should be about how there's times we aren't!!! how humans can be Good, Actually!!!!!!!! but no, the film decides to go out of its way to make superman's relationship with humans the worst possible! pa kent was a weirdo who wanted kids to drown, the general public first ever hears of superman when being collectively threatened by zod because of him (and this is something i ranted extensively about when i first watched mos back in 2015), even the excessive focus on the army (a bunch of original characters, mind you, not even relevant ones like general lane, because god forbid we actually develop superman's supporting cast) serves to constantly reminds us of the specific subsect of people who trust superman the least.

honestly, people made such a fuss over the absolute wrong things with this film. i don't care if he doesn't smile much, i'd be fine with a more serious superman if he at least had some personality and didn't make me wonder whether he actually enjoys the human race! i don't even care if he kills zod!! like, if you suspend your disbelief enough to ignore how that family could absolutely get out of the way on their own, that's one of the only good scenes for clark, character-wise! we see him care for humans, we see him care even for his enemy, we see him sacrifice his own innocence to save the innocent, we see his absolute despair at taking a life! it's good!!!! it's just a pity it comes right after he destroyed entire city blocks without a care in the world just to throw a few punches.

and the funny thing is, this film is pretty clearly a remake of superman i-ii, some scenes are even direct references. and it improves on in it in absolutely no way other than visually. and that's saying something, because as much as i love the original superman films there's so much in them that doesn't make a single bit of sense, but mos doesn't even far that much better (why the fuck did zod want lois on the ship???????????). this film is just. so empty. the characters have no actual substance, it's all made just to look cool!!1! (and nothing sums this up better than all the fucking christ imagery, but that's a whole other conversation)

also their clois has the least chemistry of all live-action, which is a crime in and of itself. didn't even have an identity porn era, probably because they thought the disguise was dumb. preposterous.

but it's not all bad! it has a bunch of cool/pretty scenes for giffing! henry looks so good with his lil curls! and, ok, if there's one genuine compliment i can make this film: i absolutely adore clark's relationship with his mom. both of them, actually, lara's brief appearance was great! but all of his scenes with martha are just amazing, the one where he beats the shit out of zod for threatening her is a personal favourite. it cannot be said they didn't give us momma's boy clark kent, at the very least.

speaking of ur cass playlist hc...reminds of the time (yesterday) i found 2 playlists randomly on spotify from the same user. one was abt 3 hours of instrumental/classical "dark" & "nostalgic" music. the other almost 11 hours of nothing but hardcore bass/synth/electronic music. just an incredible tightrope act to put on in public. the synth one was also called like "psalms for synth sluts" which is Also incredible

Just watched and read Tower of God

Aka Tower of Scandal

There is a so-called The Tower that can grant anything to anyone who ever set foot on its top. Among people climbing it is a girl who wishes to see the stars and a boy who has nothing but her.

When I saw the original author's name in the anime, I was like "Hm, cool but does it stand for anything tho?" When I found out, it's "Oh. No wonder they use the shortened version."

Imma make a general opinion here. See the reblog for Webtoon Season 2 and 3 as well as the deeper stuffs. (Although it's just gibberish in it)

The Webtoon is still ongoing, right now already hitting 3 seasons with 450+ episodes (chapters). Good lord that's a lot of chapters, and each of them is pretty long.

To put it in perspective, one chapter can fit 2 separate fights plus exposition, while usually 1 chapter of standard weekly manga has like 1 fight and side exposition. It took me a full week to read the webtoon and that already cut a lot of my sleep time.

One of the vivid experience reading the webtoon is the art improvement. Sure the earlier chapters are kinda amateurish, but overtime it gets better and even better. By the time it enters the later part of Season 2, every flashy fight scene is spectacular and the art style is solid A+.

The worldbuilding is amazing. The power system and lore of the world are explained really well and they are really interesting. The floors and sites that the cast visit have amazing visuals and stories. As for the tests, I can get by without actually reading the rules lmao. It's like a real adventure.

Lots and lots of characters. For Season 1 only, I love the dynamic between everyone in the batch, some friendly, some hostile, some mysterious. The ones that are really close are heartwarming. For Season 2 and 3, well let's say it gets rowdier and crazier.

Great character designs. Like, everyone looks different from various distinct races and with physical attributes. So many characters I'd like to draw. They also dress differently. Even their attires differ from arcs to arcs. Tower of Fashion, indeed.

I love the story about The Shoes in the King's Display Case. It really tells the problems with the Jahad princesses system and by extension the government of the tower. It’s one of the first signs that being in the tower, on a high position at that, doesn't sound all that glorious anymore if you're more on the humane side. The narration right now starts with Anaak Jahad, but later this is constantly explored from various perspectives with various motives.

Also btw this is one of the few media that realistically shows what will happen if you fight in a pair of high heels.

Look, I went here just for the girl-with-dream and boy-with-only-her story. I just thought hey that's an interesting storyline. Like it'd be cute, romantic, and maybe will be angsty after a while. Who knew the whole thing would be played like that.

This is like a shounen manga, except that there are more complicated political thriller, power abuse, and humanity issues in it. Many protagonist traits, among other things, that usually are viewed as good in other comics are now being questioned and deconstructed so thoroughly and mercilessly.

A lot of people say Bam's boring but let's be real, he's basically a baby. He literally lives in an underground cave alone until Rachel comes along. He does know nothing except her. Watching him getting to know the world in the tower and meeting new friends - essentially learning about the world outside that cave - is really fun to me.

Get yo self a boy like Khun, who will lie, cheat, beg and bribe to make you well. Not to mention kill and die for. Your name has to be The 25th Bam tho.

What is it with local smug light-haired boys being really close with the shy brunette boys???? The funny thing is, the chummy, attached-right-off-the-bat, no-personal-space atmosphere between them is pretty much anime original, compared to the webtoon. Now imagine when the anime reaches the webtoon Season 2 and 3, where even I went "Dude. Holy. Shit."

Rak best boy. Everyone and their mother loves Rak.

Keep an eye on Shibisu. Yes, that joke character with a purple tracksuit. You won't regret it.

Also I like the OSTs in that I don't actually have a favorite track, but every track is suited well with the scenes. Apparently the guy, Kevin Penkin, is also the one who composed for Made in Abyss. No wonder I got the same vibe.

The anime adds lots of extra scenes but also redacts a lot of the webtoon scenes and exposition. As far as this writing, I personally don't think it's a major problem.

Tl;Dr: I was looking for a cute boy-girl story how did it become like this.

Dragon Age subreddits suck

Reason #1 of why I don’t go on Reddit to engage with the Dragon Age fandom. (Screenshots taken from a ‘Controversial DA opinions’ thread).

I’m writing this as a reminder for myself and anyone else that it is OKAY if you write self-inserts. It’s okay if you pair your OCs or yourself with a fictional character in a story or fan art. It’s okay. Anyone who thinks it’s “cringy” or “pathetic” or “weird” have no reason that is good enough to dissuade you from doing it. As long as you know the character is fictional, as long as you don’t avoid responsibilities going on in your real life for the purpose of remaining in an escapist fantasy 24/7, it’s fine.

And I’m not even saying this to coddle people or do whatever the hell it is that people think the “Tumblr hugbox” does to people on this site. I am saying this, objectively, it is okay if you do self-inserts.

80% of the time, “Cringe” is just contempt disguised as concern no one asked for in response to people doing something that might be a bit unconventional, but not immoral or harmful.

We should be at a point in our society where non-harmful socially awkward/weird things aren’t treated with such scorn. Grow up and realize that ‘normal’ and ‘conventional’ aren’t necessarily the same thing.

Who cares if someone wants to write a self-insert in BNHA or a “Modern Girl in Thedas” fic. Who cares if someone wants to write themselves as the little sister of Sam and Dean Winchester, or Draco’s sister/cousin/niece. Who cares. It’s fandom. I’d be more annoyed if the original authors of the media did it.

You know what it is? It’s contempt for anyone who wants to pretend for a moment that they’re special and unique. Yes, reality is that there are few people in this world that are SO unique that they deserve a wikipedia page about themselves, but shitting on people who do self-inserts really reeks of “I don’t like seeing people having harmless fun and playing pretend”. Do some of the stories come off as un-fun to read because it’s more personal indulgence/wish fulfillment for the fanfic writer than it is entertainment for fellow fans? Yes, most certainly, but unless that writer throws a tantrum that “no one likes their OC” (which I have NEVER seen anyone do, but then again I don’t float in fandom spaces so heavily that I get into drama like that), it’s something they will gradually adjust as they get older. Hopefully. And some people don’t and tbh that’s okay too. It’s not fun for us fellow fans, but it’s not..breaking any laws. It’s not interfering with the creation of canon material or the creation of your fan-made stuff. Just leave well enough alone and stop being so miserable and bitter over absolutely something that really isn’t that big of a deal.

in no particular order whatsoever, I present you some good queer media: ((very minor spoilers for some things))

- black sails! it's a series, 4 seasons, 30 something episodes total, I haven't watched it yet but someone just recommend it to me and it sounds amazing. they're pirates, it's got a lot of queer characters, characters of color, and it deals (really fucking well, from what I heard) with topics of racism, misogyny, cissexism, poverty and how all of these relate and how systems oppress marginalized people and a bunch of other stuff. there's also at least two different poly relationships (a triad and a V). also it's got legit really fucking good writing, like legit legit good.

- the penumbra podcast!! I have listened to this one and it's a fucking masterpiece. it's got two main storylines; the first one (Junoverse) is a noir detective type but it's in Mars in the future (with a non-binary he/him bisexual lady as a main character and it deals (really well) with a lot of mental health issues, mainly depression) and it turns into space pirates in the third season and I think there's only one canon cis/straight person in the whole thing everyone else is queer and the other main storyline (Second Citadel) is more classic fantasy knights and monsters with a lot of questions of morality and "what's really a monster" and a poly relationship (and scaley monsterfuckers) and honestly a lot of queer characters

- Welcome To Night Vale!! I feel like this would be right up your street, honestly. it's a podcast, it follows a radio show from this town, Night Vale, where a lot of really weird supernatural shit happens, and the radio host, Cecil telling us (the town) about what's up. it's really fun and weird, it's not scary at all if that's a concern, it's very explicitly queer (in the very first episode Cecil falls in love with a man and tells the whole town about it) and it depicts a very healthy gay couple and great character development and it's honestly really fun, you get to know a lot of the townfolk and their stories and it's great

- The Adventure Zone! it's an actual play podcast, the McElroy brothers (you may know them?) and their dad play d&d. they just finished their third campaign and are starting the 4th one this week I think. the first campaign is by far my favourite. it starts kinda rough, they're playing dnd for the first time and the story and characters are pretty weak, but by the third or fourth arc you can tell how much they've learnt in the process. the fourth arc is where the story starts picking up and by the end (there's 69 (ha) episodes divided into 8 or 9 arcs) you'll be sobbing your eyes out for the last ten episodes. it's classic dnd fantasy stuff with at least three explicitly queer relationships (one of the main characters is gay and in a relationship) and w at least one explicitly trans character. it was their first time, they tried and did fairly well tbh. the second campaign is shorter, settled in modern real life Kepler, West Virginia where basically cryptids are real and the main three kill monsters in a monster of the week type of thing. (one of the main three is bi and in a queer relationship, there's one nb they/them character). and the third campaign just finished, it's real fun too, three college students of a heroes and villains school, in a (fantasy) world where heroes and villains are like A Thing and The System sucks and the message is basically to overthrow capitalism lmao

I swear I consume more media than just podcast but rn I just can't think of any...

also not exactly queer media but:

- Phineas and Ferb, it's a classic, you probably watched it on TV as a kid (I did) but it merits a rewatch

- Gravity Falls, same thing, I'm still not over how fucking good this show is

- Steve Universe, I know things got heated up in the fandom at some point but I ignored the fuck out of everyone and enjoyed it anyways because it's good

- how to train your dragon, they're all good okay, they are, watch them again

- Big Mouth. you're like 15 right? you can watch big mouth, I highly recommend it, it's really good. it's for some queer characters but they're even the main focus of some episodes/storylines, but it doesn't even matter, the whole series is just really good.

- Megamind, it's probably better than you remember

- also, you're into star trek right? have you watched discovery? I haven't watched s3 yet but it's good

Me again. I know you’re a fan of Rick & Morty (I’m not holding it against you btw). I’ve tried getting into it but just can’t. For some reason people keep comparing Rick with the 12th Doctor and that annoys the shit out of me for some reason. Interesting fact, Mike McMahan (who wrote for Rick & Morty) also created Star Trek: Lower Decks. Which may explain why the two shows have similar animation styles. I just learnt this a few days ago.

That's fair enough lol, tbh I'm nowhere near as big a fan of it as I used to be. I think seasons 1 and 2 were great and season 3 had its moments, but after that it just got really over-the-top on the gross-out and edgy humour imo (plus their parodies of other media feel much more cynical and bad faith- compare how they parodied Nightmare on Elm Street or Jurassic Park in season 1 to the Infinity Train parody that apparently isn't supposed to be one in season 4). I do see why people compare Rick to 12 though, except 12 is way more likeable and Rick is more in keeping with the antihero idea 12 was apparently supposed to convey with the whole 'Am I a good man?' thing (which imo is a serious case of tell-don't-show).

And that's cool ig, though all told I'm not huge on that art style (or the ones in stuff like Final Space, Solar Opposites etc.). I wish more adult cartoons had actually dynamic and nice-looking animation like kid's cartoons do, it feels like every show's trying to do what Simpsons and South Park did with their simplistic animation styles and it just looks ugly and lazy to me at this point. It's like people have forgotten Simpsons and South Park were supposed to look like parodies of simplistically-animated Hanna-Barbara cartoons and cheap kid's shows and assume that's just how all adult animation has to look, and I wish adult cartoonists would move with the times (at least stuff like Midnight Gospel, Bravest Warriors and Bee & Puppycat, if you count that last one as an adult cartoon, do look more like modern kid's shows, probably because they were created by people who worked on kid's shows).

Do you get on Facebook every day? Yeah pretty much all throughout the day. I used to never use it, like never ever; but back in college all announcements were coursed through Facebook so I was technically required to be on it regularly, and it was from there that I began to see memes and start to be more active. I’m a shitposter more than anything though and I rarely ever post stuff of my own. How many FB friends do you have? I have 679 at the moment but I want to get rid of like 500 of them; it’s just such a long list to go through so I never get to proceed with my unfriending spree lol.

Have you ever been on a deleting spree? HAHA I just mentioned that. I’ve always wanted to, but like I said 679 is already such an exhaustive list for me, and that’s considering I only started touching my Facebook in like 2019. I can’t imagine people who started Facebook in like 2009 and have 4000 friends aka most people I know.

Has anyone ever called the police on you because they didn't like your status? No but I have had my posts reported because they were deemed ‘offensive.’ Which is weird because my posts that have been taken down are those that speak out against disgusting men, which says a lot about Facebook runs their shit more than anything else.

These days YouTube serves as a stress reliever for me, which is to say I would typically go for humorous BTS-related compilations because there are sooooo many hilarious channels that make these great videos haha. Occasionally I’d go back to channels or series that I used to frequent, like Good Mythical Morning, Buzzfeed’s Worth It and Unsolved, Try Guys, Watcher, etc.

My Romance Kdrama Rankings and rec.:

*warning: possibly a lot of spoilers but tbh mostly just a redone synopsis of the shows*

Also a bit lengthy as hell

#12. Melting Me Softly

This show didn’t do that well as much as it was expected to, considering it even had Ji Chang-Wook as the male lead and the adorable Choi Bo-min who was introduced and quite possibly helped quick start the recognition for his kpop group Golden Child. I’ll admit I expected more of this and I don’t hold anything against the script writer who I heard did Strong Woman, but I kept in mind that the whole premise itself was also very complex to work with. Besides the fact it had two very cute and good looking male leads to draw me in, what really did it was the said premise. This is coming from a girl who is in love with Fallout 4 where the playable character was cryogenically frozen and then thawed out two centuries later, that shit slaps with me for some reason and I was excited to see it play out in this.

The romance is okay I guess, still “aww” worthy and has an intense kiss scene that’ll go down in Ji Chang-Wook’s kissing portfolio no doubt, as well as a hot kiss with his former and now aged flame that is only dreamt of. What drives the romance is the male lead with his puppy dog eyes and loving gaze, only a few have COMPLETELY mastered this in the kdrama buisness. Choi Bo-min was a complete adorable cutie who seemed to have fallen in love for the first time and I couldn’t help but fall in love with him (we’re also the same age but that’s besides the point and I’m completely in love with Rocky from Astro so like, I gotta keep this professional).

Time and time again I have issues with female leads in dramas and feel like the men pick up the slack when it comes to acting, this was one of those times. She was funny and quirky but seemed very out of focus on serval aspects. I think her most redeeming trait besides being made for the media and entertainment business in the show was her completely devotion to her brother.

#11. Suits

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Park Hyungsik is my favorite korean actor hands down.

I’ve seen bits of the American version, the original version, and it didn’t interest me in the slightest. I took a chance on this because I saw this cutie wearing a suit and converse and maybe that’s my kink, who knows, but I was fucking HERE for it. Now I’m a huge slave to romance and the shows, romcoms, that shit. I need to ship, I need to see the love, possibly write a fanfic of it, save gifs of the couple being cute or someone pining. But this show didn’t focus on the love story brewing on the side, it focused on its original intent and purpose which was Park Hyungsik and Jang Don-Gun’s partnership as mentor and mentee, the practice of law, and Park Hyungsik’s storyline as someone who got mixed up in the wrong crowd and fauxed having the license to practice law. The love story you get is the reason it’s on this list and why it’s ranked lower, but all in all this was a good show and one of the few exceptions to a non romance focused show.

#10. Suspicious Partner

The only reason this doesn’t have a pic is because I can only use ten and I gotta figure which would need one and which wouldn’t.

To start off, this show is fucking hilarious with the cast dynamic. It was like what, 40 episodes? I didn’t realize I needed a prolonged show until this came along. At times, it seemed like the main plot was dragging and I was reminded of why I prefer typical kdrama fashion of a one season within 12-32 episode limit, but it made up for it.

Yes, yes, Ji Chang-Wook, the god of kissing, stars in this. My first introduction to him was actually Melting Me Softly and because of how he did in acting with what he could, the emotions he portrayed, I sought out another show of his pre-military duty. God, he fucking serves in glasses and a suit. His character’s jealousy regarding Nam Ji Hyun (his romantic interest) and Choi Tae Joon (Ex best friend, slow burn, exes to friends to platonic lovers that’s one sided while the other can’t stand him, 35k words) instilled the notion that he is fucking funny as hell when needed and such a mood. You want to see the (not even romantic rival bc Choi and Nam are best friends) spraying with a water hose on your lead’s rival? Want to see a hot guy like Ji Chang-Wook panic and try shoving him out of the house when the girl catches them working out? It’s gold.

The feud with the moms -granted they didn’t realize the knew they were the mom’s of the leads-, the slow burn of enemies to friends with the girls, the redemption of a broken friendship, the crackhead and large old baby played by Lee Deok Hwa and the poor father figure who is tired of everyone’s shit portrayed by Jang Hyeok-jin. It’s everything you need for at least a week. It’s possibly a great starter show to ease one into the fact that most dramas don’t hold to that many episodes.

The romance is great, the fucking pining on Ji Chang-Wook’s side is great, the kissing scenes are fucking one for the history books, and you’re guaranteed to be giggling to yourself in several scenes.

Oh and there’s like, a serial killer but yeah, romance!

#9. What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?

The reason why it’s not so high on my list despite being popular is quite possibly some of the side cast.

While Park Seo Joon and Park Min Young severed as a fucking power couple and their tandem dynamic was strong as hell, there were characters who made the show’s story seen to drag out despite it being 16 episodes (see what I mean by usual number??). For one, we learn that a brown haired Lee Tae Hwan is not gonna make for a silent crush in this show. No, brown haired Lee Tae Hwan just gets on your nerves and despite it being purely because his character is mentally blocked in this twisted memory, he forces the main character into staying isolated within his own pain and nightmares from what really occurred when they were children. He lies to his family, keeps it hidden from those who are close to him and love him, suffers alone. It’s what keeps him away from chasing after Secretary Kim besides his egotistical personality -which I never thought could be so great but it is. The main character’s brother in his endless pursuit to chase at Secretary Kim himself starts to gnaw on your chill as you watch him subconsciously force this notions that they’re tethered to one another, deserve each other, etc. While you can’t entirely fault him for how he is given the psychological trauma he endured, you can get annoyed with him very easily for the other accounts and purposes.

The side story of the roof top guy with the one suit -I’m sorry, he’s great in 2PM but I can’t stand him in about every drama he’s in- and the seemly rookie girl become more of an obstacle when you just want to watch the main focus. The driver of the main character is hilarious but his romantic interest is over the top at times. Sometimes it just takes away from the show.

#8. Hotel Del Luna

To kick this off, can we like get a spin off with Kim Soo Hyun? Thanks.

FINALLY, A FUCKING FEMALE LEAD I STAN COMPLETELY AND WOULD WATCH EVEN WITHOUT YEO JIN GOO THERE FOR A ROMANTIC INTEREST.

This bitch, IU, fucking slays in her role as a hotel owner for the dead before the leave for the after life. Everything she does is iconic -yes, the fucking cocking of the rifle, the child like smile seeing diamonds, blessing the poor boy with the ability to see the dead then let him get chased per her own amusement before business. I really would’ve watched the show even if there was no romance. Whether it’s modern times or her orignal lifetime before being condemned to a life of immortality hell and aimlessly running a hotel, she makes for a strong lead. Her reasons for wanted to avoid love seemed so valid compared to other female leads who completely brush guys off. She doesn’t want love, and yet she doesn’t want anyone else touching Chan Sung (Yeo Jin Goo) because she’s not dumb enough to let go of something that makes her feel alive. While her character is legitimately described as cold and greedy, her intentions for holding onto him reveal an insecure part of her that’s been tucked away for centuries. His dedication to the hotel and her, to helping the ghosts move on and such, it’s great and makes for a binge full night.

It’s only ranked lower because the ending sadden me when I realized it was him picturing how they would meet one another again. And because they teased us with Kim Soo Hyun, like that’s cruel.

#7. Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (aka Goblin)

Tbh, this show would be lower if it weren’t for the Reaper and Sunny, as well as Deok Hwa.

I’ll probably get a lot of hate for this, but I couldn’t stand Kim Go Eun in this. I’ve watched her in Cheese in the Trap and thought she was good and stuff, but this I found myself growing annoyed and glaring at the television while my mom preached upon her behalf. The goblin was funny, his dynamic and weird polar friendship with the Reaper is quite possibly what really made the show, but I failed to see the spark between them until the time skip. Then, THEN, I could tolerate her a bit better.

Maybe it’s because she was protraying someone around my age in high school, but she went from this independent and driving girl to someone who became too needy and clingy. She acted like a little girl in front of a crush when she could’ve handled it more marturely with the said maturity she showed before meeting him. Granted, I know she had a very difficult home life after her mom died and she saw ghosts everywhere, and her living with the Reaper and Goblin was like this warm family she felt safe in, but I just couldn’t. Her endless pursuing of the Goblin got on my nerves and she would get upset, but then again did she ever act like an adult and do the most natural thing? Aka sit down and discuss the whole situation.

“If you’re comfortable, can you tell me why you think I’m your bride?/Why is there a sword in you?/What happens if I pull it out?/ What do you want me to do?/etc”

No, instead it was a constant “I’m the goblin’s bride”, “I’m your bride”, there was this bratty entitlement laying underneath the cutest exterior that was so apparent for someone my age, and I got pissed when she admitted to have seeing the sword the first time around. Like this man has been in total agony for fucking forever and you strung him along hoping for the possibility that you may be the key to him finally getting the ending he thinks he’ll get. It was selfish, she didn’t even know him but insisted on seeing how to be his bride. She should’ve stepped back and thought the situation out carefully. It wasn’t until that blessed time skip that I started to like her better. She wasn’t a kid then and became mature like she needed to be. There’s the need to flaw a character, but her’s was always biting at me.

Oh yeah, Sunny and the Reaper are the true couple in this story and their love that’s star crossed in two lives really hits you. There was more chemistry than the main couple, there was confusion in flirtatious banter, there was stupidity for first time romance against a tired experience woman, there was the hidden history that they both remembered after the time skip. The angst, the pure acceptance, the guilt and remorse. They made the fucking show alongside the Goblin and Reaper’s bromance and Deok Hwa’s “I just want a credit card and to be irresponsible but these two dumb fucks keep almost revealing their true selves to the world and I’m fucking done with these children”, on top of God taking his body as a vessel and becoming 10x cooler with that hairstyle while drinking with Fate (such a badass who loves her children I can’t, I stan the side character too).

#6. My ID is Gangnam Beauty

Oh my god, my introduction to Astro. Cha Eun Woo (aka Lee Dongmin). My god, if it weren’t for my mom, sister and I officially ruling Cha Eun Woo as god tier in terms of looks and making him this untouchable bias we can’t have, I would have never let this adorably hot as hell dancer and rapper distract me. Really, I kept wanting to be distracted by Rocky but I felt like I couldn’t miss the visual god in the front. Blessed I finally was able to divert my attention to the one I wanted to watch so very much and became my bias wrecker. Mom loves Moonbin like he’s her own son and we’re not her children, sister loves MJ’s psychotic idiocy.

ANYWAYS, the female lead, Kang Mi Rae, was stiff as hell when watching it a second time around and at times, knowing their age gap can be bothersome, but it was a cute slow burn of her and Cha Eun Woo’s character, Do Kyung Suk (sounds badass too, doesn’t it). While he appeared stiff as well, probably could’ve played a robot if he wanted to, I felt like he did well portraying his character who grew up in a dysfunctional house where their political father’s position took presidence over family. He was taught it was unmanly you cry, he never smiled (idk how Cha Eun Woo did it, this cutie never stops smiling or laughing), he never spoke up, etc. He appears socially handicapped until Mi Rae appears back in his life and he slowly let’s go of this anger as the story progresses. She learns she doesn’t have to be so self conscious about her plastic surgery or who she used to be because he loves both.

The villian of this story was well thought out (only kdrama where my dad actively participates in the discussions because he hated her so much and says her name with such spite while bragging he knows at least one Astro member so that’s his “idfk what a bias is but I’ll go with the Gangnam kid”). She brought the tension and there was the window to pity her and realize something was most definitely wrong in a tragic way. She sought after Kyung Suk like a prized trophy when he didn’t express interest, stepped inbetween blooming relationships, set boys off a progressive course away from her, and turned one kid psychotic. That was just with her obsession to have the boys fawn after her; completely disregarding her endless efforts to knock Mi Rae down a peg or two in meticulously planned schemes. She was incredibly smart and cunning, it can’t be denied and she drove them closer together in spite of her tries to wedge between them.

Really, this made me wish that the Webtoon True Beauty that’s supposed to get a drama adaption will cast him as the main male lead Suho. It’s almost similar but Suho seems more dimensional and expressive and I feel like he would truly shine there.

#5. Extra-Ordinary You

Ah, this one hurts me. @macaknight, just watch it.

This is a young love one and one of the few that’s not absolute cringe worthy. Set in high school where yea, there’s drama and it’s in Asia so there’s that weird “all mighty and supreme group that conquers the school” called the A3, a girl (Kim Hye Yoon) with a heart condition learns she’s a character in a manga -doesn’t realize she’s not the main one tho and that’s hilarious alone. She finds a focus with this unnamed student who stays in the background and shadows (portrayed by SF9’s Rowoon). The girl, Eun Dan Oh, is someone to worship and cherish, especially since she’s so young and very promising. I thoroughly enjoyed her character and how her efforts to derail the natural progression of the story with the catalyst of student number 13, later on Haru. There’s so many fucking twist and turns, characters to let your heartbreak for as you wish to adopt them and protect them from the world, it all hurts so much but in a masochistic against yourself kind of way you can’t let go of.

Those who are aware they’re in a comic book, they all struggle to break their “character’s” roles and expectations. The second male lead of both the drama and the drama’s manga is sick and tired of playing the violin and being this unrequited love interest that’ll lose in the end, forever the friend. Dan Oh is livid she’s expected to die from her heart disease and is forced to endlessly pine for her childhood fiancé Baek Kyung who is a complete asshole to her while in character. Number 13/Haru is tired of being an unnamed background character who continuously suffers and gets toyed with by the author. Dried Squid Fairy lunch maker is sick of how he must remember shit that’s kept a secret as he tries in vain to keep the story on track to avoid repeated mistakes and consequential devastating punishments to those who don’t follow the storyline. Yeo Ju Da (the main character of the manga) wants to experience the love story she wants without the drama. Baek Kyung want to prove himself and that he genuinely cares for Dan Oh but is forced to be an asshole because that’s how he’s written.

It’s a fucking mess and it’s fucking fantastic. The friendship of A3 (Lee Do Hwa the vionlist, Oh Namju and Baek Kyung), Lee Do Hwa and Dan Oh’s powerful best friendship after being self aware and confiding in each other (honestly I want a drama with just two of them, they’re so cute and funny together), the A3 that happened outside for those self aware between Dan Oh, Number 13/Haru, and Do Hwa where they all genuinely care for one another, Dan Oh’s acceptance that her manga best friend is a bitch but nice to her and the male lackey of their group is funny, etc.

I didn’t think another self aware comic book character show could happen without ripping off W-Two Worlds, but it did. They did it.

#4. Angel’s Last Mission: Love

That song that goes “It’s alright, it’s alright” in a sad melodic way? Yeah, they play it when it’s not alright.

This show has heartbreak galore, even in the first episode for numerous reasons. They don’t want you to be alright for the most part and yet our sadistic selves can’t help but suffer through it. L’s portrayal of being an angel is such a gift, I didn’t know I needed it. I was dead set on living my life until I saw this and felt myself crumble to bits.

You want sacrifice? You got it. Tears of cute boy and a girl who can’t catch a break? Check. Plot twists? Lmao, it’s a kdrama. Yea. Angst and hurt? Fuck yep.

While you’re at it, listen to the song too so you can suffer some more.

#3. Descendants of the Sun

THIS WOULD BE AT THE TOP IF IT WEREN’T FOR THE FACT I AM COMPLETELY IN LOVE WITH THE FIRST ONE AND THESE TWO GOT DIVORCED IN REAL LIFE. I still wish the best for them and their child. I still hurt but love them.

So much fucking chemistry and angst, so much hurt and wounds (it’s legit a show with a military background and characters), so much cool fight scenes and surgeries. Their soundtrack slaps, the backstory of characters really set the tone to their current stories, shit overlaps somehow, the female rivalry is hilarious, the cat and dog friendship of the male leads warms my heart. They have such iconic stills and scenes.

The main leads connected so fucking well they got married in real life (we don’t talk about the end result, I’m still crying but I get it.) This kdrama is probably one of the staples to korean dramas in general.

Another female lead I really liked as well as the second, I just struggled at times with Song’s character at times because of the pain she put them both through.

#2. W-Two Worlds

This is my go to for recommending korean dramas to someone for the first time -I got an ex hooked on it that he cried several times throughout it/life 1/4 of the varsity boy’s soccer team has seen this because of me.

This is the comic self awareness show that I didn’t think could be redone, but kudos to you Extraordinary You, you created an orignal that breaks my heart.

This show hurts so much as well, I don’t watch them if they don’t hurt in one way or another.

Lee Jong Suk stars as the main character (Kang Chul) who is also the main character of his own comic book he stars in. The issue is that he’s self aware and that there’s something wrong with his world and life. His webtoon/manga creator is trying to kill him because having his creation alive is driving him to insanity and was the only comfort when he pushed his family away for his career and alcoholism. The creator’s daughter is alerted that her father went missing while cooped up in his room while drawing Kang Chul’s death and end to the manga without a resolution to his storyline (Think of a korean Batman without the suit and brooding personality). Plot twist that’s in the synopsis, she gets pulled in by Kang Chul inside the comic and can come and go if it pertains to him because he controls it without realizing.

You have a main character who is written as this playboy orphan and sole survivor of his mass family’s murder that questions his existence and purpose BEYOND how we do. He meets this girl who speaks almost cryptically to him without realizing and knows more about him than needed or given, and now he’s experiencing oddities besides the notion of love that he can’t understand because it’s not how he is written and the glitches in his world.

This show is twisted in a psychological sense that messes with a comic character who is now alive and real, fucks up the mentality of the creator, puts the daughter in an immense amount of stress when she was just trying to be a fucking surgeon, yes, black haired Lee Tae Hwan is crush worthy in this unlike brown haired Lee Tae Hwan in Secretary Kim. (It’s the hair, you change the hair on a character and everything is different).

The exploration of what love is that works alongside the devoting dark plot of the culprit murderer really drives this show as well as the couple’s endless efforts to save/protect one another in any means necessary, even if they both suffer from it.

These two truly can’t live without one another and it shows with all they do for each other. There’s nothing they wouldn’t risk to keep one another in their arms.

And Lee Jong Suk delivers his share of being one of the King of Korean Drama Kisses as well, gif saving worthy and iconic ones as well.

#1. Strong Woman Do Bong-Soon

Park Hyungsik. Park Hyungsik. Park Hyungsik. Park Hyungsik.

Need I say more?

We stan Park Hyungsik’s character, Ahn Minhyuk, in this blog. We basically stan Do Bong Soon as well for how happy she makes him.

This is possibly totally bias but this is one of my two white noise korean drama shows that I continuously find myself rewatching time and time again. And that’s saying something since I only have one white noise show that’s in English. Three shows total.

People had issues with the script and what the actors had to say, but for the most part I thought the love story and the rival one was pretty well written, then again I kept watching different translations on different sites. So I wasn’t bothered at all. People also didn’t like the side characters and stories regarding the sketchy well dressed gang she hospitalizes in the first episode that stuck around until the last but I felt it was important to have them to prove how having Bong Soon in their lives can change a person and how she has this affect on people overall.

My god, the love story. Bong Soon has this massive crush on police officer and high school friend she was sweet on, Guk Doo, who doesn’t seem to acknowledge her feelings and is all about protecting the law and stuff (I can respect, I’m a LEO kid). He isn’t aware of her abilities of being incredibly strong and nearly indestructible. Nah, instead, CEO of AIN Software, Ahn Minhyuk, accidentally finds out and is like super chill but excited and curious about it and her??

He hires her as his bodyguard in the mist of receiving threats regarding his family company and they find an odd balance with each other while Minhyuk falls in love with her so hard, he literally tries to protect HER from danger. He’s so wonderfully extra that it’s no wonder Park Hyungsik and Park Seo Joon are best friends in real life, they both have the ability to play someone so over the top in a cute and funny way that you appreciate it about them. A cutie with a button nose and weird ears decked out in monochrome color scheme and dark sunglasses, whistling as he rides a hoverboard around? Die for 100%. Someone who gets crazy jealous and presents it in a healthily humorous way by dramatically posing to securitygates of his company that open automatically for him? Stan. Wants Bong Soon’s attention while she’s in a room away from him so her opera sings her name loudly and dramatically? Worship.

While it’s hard to watch the slow progression on her end yet the obvious budding of it, it’s understandable since she’s been in love with Guk Doo ever since high school and has assumably never had a boyfriend in hopes that he would reciprocate her feelings. So the second time watching it and stepping back to analyze, I could forgive her.

All the while, Minhyuk making Heart Eyes ™️ at Bong Soon for literally everything she does makes you feel. The way he holds her and treats her like she’s this precious porcelain doll that could break it handled the wrong way speaks volumes considering he knows of her Herculean strength. He openly loves her when he comes to realize what she means to him -which is a lot sooner than you’d think but welcomed-, and looks at no one else but her. The love story probably would’ve also happened faster if everyone didn’t think Minhyuk was gay (that’s a solid fact, I’m not joking), only those close to her and see how he acts/looks at her realize “lmao, he ain’t gay Hunni”. Minhyuk is this cute hottie that girls wish were straight (it’s fucking hilarious) who acts like a complete lovesick dork with Bong Soon. He freaks and spazzes out when she calls him a nickname or acts cheeky with dropping honorifics, speaks aloud to himself of his thoughts regarding her, literally can’t contain himself when she acts cute to get on his good side and distract his anger.

Oh and there’s like this serial kidnapper too so there’s badass scenes of the two working together, power couple def.

Their soundtrack slaps too and you somehow end up vibing with it. The song You’re My Garden on it, I learned to sing it because it’s one of my top favs.

They’re just the cutest with their hamster and puppy dog relationship. It’s my go to show and I won’t stop watching this. It’s so obvious how Park Hyungsik grew to fall in love Park Bo Young (that’s a legitimate fact) when filming and their bts cuts are too cute, I wish they were dating in real life.

TBH I would KILL to see the S&P notes given to a few pieces of recent queer media, because I suspect they would shut people up real goddamn fast. Tired of watching queer people tear down queer television writers instead of, y'know. The homophobic networks censoring people.

Example: I see way more people in the Dragon Prince fandom talking shit about the Queens of Duren than I see asking the question, "how much pushback did Netflix give over it? What's the context? This was in production right around the time Nate Stevenson had to fight for She-Ra."

Dead queers are sometimes the only way we get to be on TV, even in modern day. I wish more people were looking at "problematic" queer rep and asking, "who censored this? Why did it happen this way?" instead of ripping apart the (often queer) artists.

Our first questions when analyzing queer media should always be, "When was this made, and who had the power to censor it? What were the common ways for queer artists at that time to code and flag in order to slip under the radar?"

CONTEXT, people. It's about context.

I want to live in the world that other people seem to be living in, where we get to critique queer media from a perspective of "homophobia and censorship? What homophobia and censorship? What's a Hays Code? No, I don't know anything about lesbian pulps or Oscar Wilde's sodomy trial, what's a sodomy trial? No, any problematic aspects or things that I don't like about a piece of queer rep are 100% objective and entirely the fault of the creator! What's a 'cultural and historical context,' stop derailing!"

Summary: Tom Holland, Harrison Osterfield, and Jacob Batalon started a game back when they first began filming Spider-Man: Homecoming—to sleep with as many different extras as possible before the movie premiered. Their current targets are the ladies of the band Navy Skies, a ragtag group of young adults that were blessed with the opportunity to play in the homecoming dance scene. Fed up with the boys’ sick game, Laura and Zendaya are taking bets on who gets their heart broken first.

Weeks later, it turned out the girls had kept their word on never seeing Tom or Harrison again. Their world kept turning, just as it always did when minor setbacks presented themselves. Minor setbacks for them also always turned into new songs. Navy Skies had a whole new arsenal of songs to put on an EP they had been working on, as well as a new set list for their next few shows coming up. Cam had really outdone herself on writing this time around—she didn’t get stuck once and her band was easily able to make her imagination come to life.

They had a show tonight at the very same bar that Cam shot pool at three nights a week. Thanks to being good friends with the current manager of the bar, Navy Skies had a secured performance at the pool hall at least once a month. At the moment, the band was getting ready per their usual pre-show ritual. Mac was in the shower while the ladies did their hair and make up, warming up their vocals by singing along to modern karaoke favorites. Cam started off the bridge to Mr. Brightside. They each took turns doing a line, going a half step higher every time it was their turn including Mac who would chime in from the open bathroom door, despite hating this particular song.

The girls were dressed to kill, sporting leather pants and dramatic winged liner. Tonight, they were hoping for a big break with the launch of their self produced EP, maybe finally sign to a label. They needed to dress to impress tonight. Cameron finished lacing up her signature white Doc Martens as her band was heading out the door.

Being the local supporters they were, Navy Skies watched the other performers while shooting a couple rounds of pool before unloading their van. “Need a hand?” Cameron turned her head to see Tom, Harrison, and Jacob all walking up. She raised her eyebrow, an unintentional look of disgust on her face.

“What are you guys doing here?” She asked, not stopping from helping unloading their utility van.

“We saw you had a show, so we wanted to come watch!” Jacob said cheerfully, almost innocently. He knew he still had a chance to land his target, and he was going to seize the opportunity. Immediately, he started helping them unload a few heavy amps from their utility van. The tiny drummer thanked him profusely.

“Thanks a lot, social media.” Ruby grumbled, figuring that was how the boys found out about their show. She was helping bring their drum kit and a couple more amps forward until Harrison stopped her.

“Hey, can we talk?” He asked timidly, lending a helping hand by taking the amplifiers off the van and placing them onto the sidewalk.

“And then some? Ruby mocked icily. “There’s not much to talk about. You made it pretty clear that you and Tom were just trying to get into our pants, and Cam and I aren’t like that.”

“I know. And I’m sorry that I even said that because that wasn’t what I meant at all.” She looked at him expectantly, her tattooed arms folding over her chest. “We just wanted to impress you two so that we could keep seeing you.”

“I’ll give you a tip, then. Money doesn’t impress anyone, and neither does being a douche. I don’t care if you pay for my meals or my bar tab, or what kind of car you have, or how you dress. I care about what you have to offer that isn’t tangible and what you offer as a human being.” Harrison nodded his head slowly, taking in her words.

“Okay.” He responds finally as he mulled over her statement. “I’m sorry about what went down. I meant what I said though—I want to keep seeing you, and I hope you forgive me enough to allow me the pleasure of taking you out.”

“I’ll think about it.” Ruby muses playfully, though it was clear that she held no grudge against him. They laughed together as they griped about moving the heavy equipment, the tension in the air dissipating after she forgave him. While this meant that Harrison still had a chance to snag his prey, it was the furthest thing from his mind. The only thing he could even think about was where he wanted to take Ruby out for their unofficial date.

Cameron was inside attaching all the cords to their respective inputs and outputs as Tom and Harrison wheeled more equipment in on a dolly. “Thanks.” She said shortly. Though Cameron didn’t necessarily have a reason to be angry—since Harrison was mostly speaking for himself and Tom the last time they had all seen each other—Tom never disputed his best mate’s words. In her mind, his silence meant agreement; it meant he was still doing whatever it took to sleep with her.

“Need anything else, love?” He asked, looking at her as she put together the rest of the cords in exasperation. She wouldn’t look at him.

“No, I’m good.” The boys looked at each other. Without physically saying anything, Harrison walked away to give his mate the privacy he wished for. Maybe Cameron would forgive him the way Ruby forgave Haz.

“Cameron.” Tom called out. She didn’t stop moving. “Hey, look at me.” She aggressively set down the microphone stand she had just assembled before turning to him

“What?”

“I know I said sorry a thousand times the last time I saw you, but I am. Haz spoke for me, and I just want a chance to speak for myself.” Cameron looked at her watch before flashing her own brown orbs to his.

“You’ve got two minutes.”

“It was never about just taking you home,” He lied. “I don’t know why he even said that. If that’s all it was about, I wouldn’t have even bothered hanging out, I would have just moved on.” His silver tongue was working magic. Fib after fib, and she believed every bit of it. But she wouldn’t give in so easily. “But I want to get to know you.”

“One minute.”

“Please, don’t be mad at me. I’m sorry.” He begged, gripping her delicate shoulders to make her look at him. She groaned with a roll of her eyes.

“Okay, fine. I wasn’t really mad at you per se—mostly just at Harrison. And that’s not fair to you.”

“Friends?” He asked, hopeful.

“Acquaintances.”

“I’ll take it.” She had finished setting up all the wires after Harrison and Jacob brought in the rest of the equipment from their van. While her band was tuning their instruments, Cam was downing two drinks at the bar as fast as she could to help her overcome her innate stage fright. Tom was observing her from a safe distance, immediately noticing the restless tapping of her fingers on the bar and bouncing leg. “You’re anxious, love?” It wasn’t really a question despite the way it came out, but more so an observation.

“Yeah, I always get the jitters.” She replied as she downed another drink. “But I need to go do mic check.” She scurried away, waving to Tom as his friends flanked his sides.

“You guys good?” Harrison asked as they watched the band.

“Yeah, you guys?” Both of them nodded. “Perfect. Game on.”

The show began, flocks of young and older adults gathered around the small makeshift stage as loud power chords filled the bar. “Thanks for coming to the show tonight everybody! Let’s give a hand to the other bands that played!” Cam said into her microphone, causing her audience to erupt in applause. “We are Navy Skies and we were hoping you’d all like to kick it with us.” The pun she used signified the start of the first song of their set list—the very same song they played on the set of Spider-Man.

Their choreographed routine brought the most miniscule amount of nostalgia back to the cast as they watched from the very front. The way the lights were hitting the features of their targets and their incredibly overt, plucky personalities that shone on stage, the boys remembered their goal. Take out your prey, move onto the next. They were running out of time with just a couple weeks left of filming to complete, and Harrison was still in the lead.

Being the punk band that they were, most the lyrics that fell from Cameron’s pierced lip often came out as garbled noise. But for some reason, every word always came out crystal clear to the ladies that had taken bets against their friends. “I almost feel a little sorry for them.” Laura chimed to Z, watching the band play from a distance.

“For who?” Her friend asks, sipping on her rum and coke.”

“The boys. They don’t even realize these girls aren’t going to put up with their shit.” Zendaya shrugs with a playful twist of her features.

“That’s their own fault. They wanted to play this game, but games usually have a winner and a loser. They just don’t know which ones they are yet.”

“Neither do we.” Laura reminded her, though they both were firm believers on their stances of the bet. The girls watched as the boys were jumping around enthusiastically with the band, awaiting patiently for future events to unfurl.

Meanwhile, the band was rolling through their set list; just having fun with their interactive crowd. They had just finished their fifth song and, while Ruby was switching out her guitars, Cameron took over the awkward silence. “So I know we play here kind of often, mostly ‘cause I basically live here and Wayne hasn’t kicked me out yet. Hi Wayne!” She waved to the manager who was standing behind the bar, who gave her a silly wave back. “But we’ve been writing quite a few new songs and we wanted to try something a little different. So I hope you guys like it.” She lead her microphone back to its stand that was resting in front of a keyboard.

A delicate upbeat rhythm came from the keys she played on as she lead her band through their newest song. It was so remarkably different from their typical angst and anger filled lyrics and chords that the audience was unsure of how to react. Typically, they’d be jumping around and bopping their aids, but the airy and nearly careless beat left them confused. Cameron hoped the drama leading up to the chorus got them moving like it did to her band, but she also knew their presence would play a factor in that.

Cameron pulled away from the keyboard, taking a moment to pull her microphone back with her and jump along with her band as she sang the chorus in harmony with them. Much to her surprise, the younger folks in the audience were bouncing along, including Tom, Jacob, and Harrison. It was so different for them, but the positive responses were fueling confidence in the band as they transitioned into a ballad, Mac and Ruby each switching to an acoustic guitar. “We’re gonna slow it down, just a bit.” She announced as her guitarists started another semi-peppy beat.

Cam was bopping her head along to the strums of her mates guitars as the introduction started.

From the very back row of the crowd, Z was smirking as Tom and Cameron made eye contact as she melodically sand such brutal words. The uncanny foreshadowing had to be obvious to more than just Laura and herself. Surely Tom knew that these lines had to have come from previous experience. Hearing such spiteful lyrics to whomever the subject was, was not attractive despite being ironically fitting. There was no chance of Tom falling for this bitter, heartbroken teenager in a young adult’s overly tattooed body.

Navy Skies closed out with another fast paced, angsty song. Cameron stepped off stage and surrounded herself with fans that were singing along with Tom standing at a safe distance. She stood in the center of a pit as she bobbed up and down with the beat of the drum.

From the way the crowd was moving in sync with Cam, Tom gather that this particular song must have been a fan favorite. It was truly nothing short of magnificent to watch the energy that she was bringing to her people. Even her own band mates were coming alive on the stage, holding down the fort and keeping the reset of the crown entertained. “Ready?” Mac yelled into his microphone, the ever growing audience cheering loudly. “Get it!”

Cameron ran back up to the stage, taking a bow as the reverberation from the guitars ringing on. Clapping and yells were sporadically filling the bar as Navy Skies took a collective bow. “Thanks so much everybody, have a wonderful night and get some safe!” The flurry of people slowly dissipated as the band began breaking down their equipment. Well, really it was just Malachi as the girls rushed off stage for their routine post show cigarette together.

“Thanks for abandoning me!” Mac yelled as he brought out both of his guitar cases. Jacob and Harrison were behind him, wheeling one amplifier at a time on a dolly and began helping load up their van. The girls simply waved their hands in dismissal. After they finished their smoke, they went back I to help clean up. Tom was sitting at the bar once again, this time with Zendaya and Laura flanking his sides with a total of nine shot glasses lining along the bar top. He turned to face the singer as she approached.

“Hey, love. Great show!” Tom stood up to hug the young woman, giving her the slightest amount of discomfort as he did so.

“Thanks. And thank you ladies for coming out as well.” She said sincerely, looking at Laura and Z.

“Yeah, it was pretty cool.” Laura added. The rest of the band as well as Haz and Jacob finally came to join after they hauled away the rest of the equipment.

“Ooh, did you buy us a round? Dani asked, glancing at the shot glasses all lined up. Tom started handing each of them out with Z’s assistance.

“Yep, one for everybody.” He raised his shot glass, everyone else following suit. “Cheers to a great show!” Everyone took their shot, followed by a string of whooping, but the celebration never ended there. Countless shots and drink later, and the band had completely lost track of how many drinks they had consumed. Dani was a dancing fool, grinding up on Jacob as the DJ played old school throwbacks. Laura, Z, and Mac were right along side them, giving off a girl’s night out vibe. Cameron and Tom were playing pool together, and Harrison and Ruby were god knows where. “How are you still beating me while you’re drunk?!” Tom jeered to a swaying Cam. She only laughed as she broke the rack once again.

“You just suck.” He scoffed playfully in response to her, taking his shot.

“Yeah? Why don’t we raise the stakes then, love? How about if I win this, you have to go on a date with me?” From the way things were going, it seemed like Tom had the chance to win.

“And if I win?” Cam tried her best to get her hazy mind together, formulating a plan for her victory.

“I’ll take you to the Spider-Man premier and lose the chance to take Haz as my plus one?”

“Deal.” She says as she finishes up a four ball run against him. They both had three balls left on the table before getting to the eight. Tom was fully confident he would win, though he wouldn’t mind it either way. Not that he intended to keep his word on bringing her to the premier. He had hoped the promise of taking her would give him brownie points and he could finally cross his target of his list. He had taken his shot, getting his solid ball towards the pocket, but it ended up rattling. Cameron sucked in air before clicking her tongue. “That’s a shame, Tommy boy. Looks like you’re taking me to the premier.”

“You haven’t even taken your shot yet!” Cameron laughed before finishing off her beer. She lined up for her shot, using delicate speed to get her to the eight ball.

“Back left corner.” She declared, pointing with her cue before she meticulously bent down and sank the eight ball. She turned to Tom, a smirk on her face as she threw a wink at him. A boisterous laughter bubbled from her chest as she saw the genuine disappointment on his face. “Let me know when the premier is.”

“Dammit, I was really hoping I could take you on a date.” He feigned disappointment. But so far, things were going according to his plan.

“I mean you still can.” She pointed out with slurred words as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. Tom perked up at this.

“Yeah? When are you free this week, love?” He started to hone in on her, his hands touching her slightly exposed lower back. His fingers began to dance along her exposed tattoos as he looked down at her. Maybe it was the alcohol speaking, but the smolder burning in his brown eyes was affecting Cameron. He was making her weak. Her arms wrapped around his neck, bringing him close enough so that their noses were touching.

“I’m off Sunday night.” Her lips were just barely ghosting over, the metal bar in her lip grazing over him.

“Sunday night, then.” Was all he said before his lips crashed into hers, an act that didn’t go unnoticed by his co-stars as each of them turned to see the kiss.

How did you discover the show?

I saw it on tumblr a lot, naturally, after s1 dropped it really took off and i was super curious about it because i was a HUGE fan of atla! but i was also like ‘robot... cats...’ and so i didnt watch it right away lmao, ive posted about this before but i ended up watching this amv shortly after it came out and after that i was like ‘i HAVE to watch this’ (just watched the amv again and its still rly good, damn it reminds me how good s1 was........)

Was it love at first sight or did it take you a while to get into the show?

it was completely love at first site!!! u know lance won my heart the second he opened his mouth, and i was impressed right away by how lovely it was, how creative and scifi fun it was, i loved the music and the updated designs and i was in it for the diversity tbh. i knew starting this show could never be undone with ‘girl, youve already activated my particle ba--’ ‘LANCE.’ how poetic is it that a shance moment brought me here

Do you have a favorite Paladin?

wonder who that could be............ Lance............. my son........ he is so excited and open-hearted, but so capable and smart in so many ways. he has Been There for the team in so many ways, from hugely significant emotional support to skilled tactical coverage, all the way up until he literally died saving a team mate, and this wasnt even his first close call. he can be petty and short-tempered cos hes young and working stuff out, but he is so gotdang selfless and beautiful and charming and i LOVE...

Do you have a favorite Lion? (If it’s different from your fav paladin, why?)

*looks down at the blue slippers on my feet, looks up at the blue lion toy on my desk shelf* yea i got a fav.... tbh blue is so sweet and smart and i love her, and black is growing on me in a MAJOR way, mysterious and wise and full of Love for shiro, much like i hope to be

Do you have a favorite Villain?

HAGGAR!!! BITCH!!!!!!!!! my bias was skewed from day 1 the second she opened her mouth and cree summers voice came out, and when she started showing concern for zarkon i knew it was over for me, i knew they were gonna cut me deep w her history. ive said since the beginning that haggar was gonna be the main villain, and i believe it more than ever now that voltron kinda killed her husband and lost her son in a void. her backstory reveal rocked me to my core, and i care very much about honerva and haggar!! ive always felt like the final conflict is gonna come down to haggar and allura tbh

Do you have a favorite Alien Race? (recurring and/or minor)

i rly like alteans, i know theyre just pretty hyper advanced space elves, but WHATEVER. also loved the mermaid aliens and whatever blaytz is, and my love of the biibohbiis is eternal. i hope we see more cool aliens! also shout out to that hot rebel lady that died in pidges arms, i forget what theyre called... also, can we meet whatever mixed w a galra to make antok t b h?

Favorite side / other character(s)- Rebels, General, Blade of Mamora, Garrison, etc?

rolo, nyma, and beezor hold a rly special place in my heart. i was so excited when they came back!! the blades are very much my Aesthetic (TM), and those mermaid freedom fighters were great, also those married gay rebels posted in that ice cave that helped shiro.... i like a lot of the side characters tbh.

lbr though, the real favs are the biibohbiis

How/Why did you join the fandom?

i came in initially to consume the shallura content tbh (this was before it got “””cancelled””” by antis, and i was very excited to see a black woman in a popular ship for gotdamn once. yea im bitter). i started rping p quick after watching it all, i just really wanted to write lance, then i got into an rp with a keith and the ship was unlocked in my heart for All Time. this was around the time that i stopped drawing, i held on for as long as i could and used to post fanart, but it didnt last long. kept me inspired to keep writing tho, and thats good cos i need to be making something!! now its getting me back into drawing and im thankful for that, big ups to shance fandom within the fandom for being da bes!!

Care to share a favorite headcanon?

shit... i wasnt ready for this... i dont really have any relevant hcs that i can think of right now! ummmm i think that the garrison knows more than we think, and that there are going to be some Interesting revelations when the team goes home. im suspicious of how quick they were to jump on and contain shiro at the beginning without so much as letting him speak, how close the base was to the blue lion, and the fact that tex kogane saw the lion and was immediately like ‘should we call the garrison?’ (realistically he could be saying that cos, i mean, who else nearby would know about bizarre aircraft than a piloting academy, but still!)

What do you think is the best part of the show?

honestly there is a lot i love about the show, but i guess the Best part is the characters and the bonds we see growing between them as the series progresses! the show has gone into much more engaging, interpersonal depth than i ever hoped for, and the bottom line is that love and compassion are the things that make life worth fighting for.

ive also talked before, i think rambling in the tags of a post lol, about how i love the fresh, fun, creative take on fantasy scifi that i have missed in recent media, and the optimism that runs as an undercurrent to it all.

Any hopes and wishes for future episodes / seasons?

i obviously just want lances personal arc to come to a head already!! his character has been quietly and steadily growing in the background of all of this, and his growth is just so human and heartfelt in the midst of all of this intergalactic drama. he is just a boy from cuba who is so good and selfless that he has literally died defending the universe, and he deserves a real, genuine time to shine!

Do you think you’ll stick it out until the end of the show?

ABSOLUTELY, this show means so much to me and has ferried me thru a hard time in my life, on top of just being generally phenomenal and everything that i hope modern cartoons can become now that people are genuinely starting to realize that it is an art form!
