Balthazar is traditionally referred to as the King of Arabia or sometimes Ethiopia and is thus frequently depicted as a Middle Eastern or Black man in art. THE CHALLENGE OF FAITH.

Matthew 1:18-25, 2:1-12, 16-18. Luke 2:8-20.

The Christmas story has four significant groupings: 

Zachariah/Elizabeth

Mary/Joseph

Angels/shepherds

Wisemen/Herod.

Each group had its own challenge to faith:

For Zachariah and Elizabeth, the impossibility of child birth at old age. 

For Mary and Joseph, the miracle of divine conception.

For the angels, there is no challenge…but for the shepherds, believing the good news.

For the Wisemen and Herod, believing the King of the Jews had been born, (For Herod, that belief resulted in murder).

This week, is there a challenge of faith in this nativity narrative for us?
