I didn't get round to finishing my Modern!Witch AU (bc I think I got stuck and something happened I had to stop it).

But the Wirecraft AU was a dumb idea of "Well Gabriel gets rejected by 'his' Jack so he thinks if he fucks with magic to go in the future to see if 1) they do get together and 2) Jack is unhappy (because they're not) it'll sate his curiosity etc etc.

But he fucks up his spells (from emotional drama~) and ends up in the Neon Noir AU with old grizzy Jack and its my guilty pleasure of this ruffed up psycho being the softest kitten to this dumb young Gabe thinking he's just a rent boy that looks so much like his dead husband.

Though they're both over the age of consent I was worried it would be taken as cradle snatching or some cancellingshit and got scared to even go ahead with it. But maybe I'll just be gross and post it here or whatever, idk.

Hi, your crafts are so incredibly cool! How did you get into wirecrafting? Do you have any favorite resources for learning about it?

Thank you! Unfortunately no specific tutorials or anything because I never really decided to get into this as a hobby. Rather I started playing with paper clips and staples when I was bored in lower school, and then over the years things... escalated. Better materials, better tools, more ambitious projects. Some day I will learn to weld these thin pieces of metal together instead of just tying them in place or twisting them together, and then I will be unstoppable.

If it helps, the two ways I think of wire is (a) lesser blacksmithing/machining and (b) that game where you try to draw a shape without your pencil leaving the paper. I pick a shape I want, figure out the path (or paths) to "draw" it in 3D space and how to anchor those strands to each other, and then immortalize that idea in metal. No heat, just pliers sturdy enough to bend the wire and reduce the number of times I stab myself on the loose ends.

I can definitely recommend some specific wire suppliers and materials and their tradeoffs, but really anything will work as long as you are physically able to bend it and as long as it holds its shape when bent. The "picture hanger" section of many hardware stores is a great place to look. Find something between about gauge 18 and 24 to start, and try it!

Hello wire-smith! I'm so curious, when did you get into wirecrafting? What inspired you?

Really it was more of a... progression. When I was bored in middle school I used to scavenge dropped paper clips from the floor and bend them into neat shapes to keep myself amused. But teachers don't drop that many paper clips so eventually I started buying my own. But paper clips are too short to build much besides stick figures and rubber-band-powered crossbows so eventually I bought some longer wire to let me build other things. But beading wire is so thin that it's basically invisible at a distance so I started planning space-filling designs and buying thicker wire to support larger projects... And a few more steps later, here we are!

Basically I'm a tinkerer who likes technical challenges and I'm a magpie who likes shiny things, and wire is more approachable than most other forms of metalwork.

when he’s out with the party, he grabs trinkets and things. he’s specifically keeping an eye out for flexible wire, gemstones, and little pretty things he can use to make jewelry + mini wire sculptures with.

before the tadpole, he was extremely private about this hobby, believing its unbecoming of him as the son of bhaal. but post-tadpole and being forced to adventure, he hates being stuck at camp, its soooo boring. so wirecrafts it is.

he also likes to brew potions. i think every long rest, he gives you One singular potion or poison to use! sometimes it’s not even useful! (thinking about auntie ethel’s weird potions…)
