Why did I choose the Darkling over the Crows?
Why did I choose the Darkling over the Crows? Because his story reaches into the deeper, more complex layers of human nature in a way that reminds me of Blade Runner, where I can immerse myself in a slow exploration of identity, purpose, morality, and the painful burden of time. Sasha’s character isn’t designed to be easily digestible or instantly likable. He’s meant to provoke questions, not offer easy answers. Aleksander Morozova is a character shaped by centuries of loneliness, power, and the impossible weight of wanting to protect people the world refuses to understand. His darkness isn’t merely aesthetic, it’s psychological. It’s about fear, grief, hope, and the relentless battle with his own nature. About being himself in a world that demands freedom but punishes difference. I believe he invites people to reflect on the cost of survival and the price of being different. He wasn’t created to entertain; he was created to make us think.
In contrast, Crows feel more like characters from a well-directed action movie and while that’s not inherently a bad thing, their world often leans toward stylized spectacle rather than substance. Their stories are fast-paced, their traumas stylized, their cleverness designed for applause. Watching them is like watching Michael Bay’s Transformers: bright, explosive, emotionally packaged in a way that’s attractive, but rarely uncomfortable. These characters are built for a younger audience, crafted to draw viewers in with witty dialogue and dramatic heists. They flirt with emotional complexity but often remain within the bounds of digestible drama. Themes are presented clearly, with tidy resolutions offered at the end of each arc. And while there’s skill and fun in that, there’s also a sense of safety.
Aleksander doesn’t offer safety. He demands to be seen in his entirety, his flaws, ideals, failures, and dreams. He operates on a level where there is no clear villain or hero, echoing the existential ambiguity of Blade Runner: What makes someone human? How far can one go before losing their soul? Can anyone truly be good in a world that punishes difference? These are questions for adults, for people who have lost, who have doubted themselves, who understand that morality is rarely a clean line.
Choosing the Darkling isn’t about choosing darkness for its own sake—it’s about choosing depth over distraction, nuance over neatness. It’s not that the Crows don’t have merit, but rather that their narrative purpose feels simpler, younger, built for cleverness and fun, while Aleksander is a weighty study in contradiction and ruin. He speaks to something more mature, more tragic, and ultimately, more human. And that’s why I choose Aleksander.

This is fascinating! I'm not an animal behaviorist, but I want to note a few things:
Crows are very smart (I'm too lazy to cite lately, but I don't imagine this is controversial)
Crows are known to play (same)
Crows build nests (same)
I imagine that, to get birds of all kinds to build nests, their mental wiring makes them like how a nest looks (apparently nest building instincts are not well understood... So this is pretty controversial/open to disagreement. You'd have to like monitor neurotransmitter levels in a bird's brain while it built a nest to prove it. In my mind they just have an instinct to stack sticks at certain times and a built in "aesthetic", because that would be a very compact way to encode that information)
This bird is not building a nest (not controversial, probably... It's at least not building a useful nest)
I think that this bird is building a play nest. That is, a nest for fun, a sculpture even, and that looks very beautiful to it.

My dad and his friend found some baby crows and raised them. Simon and Garfunkel. (one of them turned out to be a girl, which they learned when it layed eggs.)
They found them at my grandparents cottage, and brought them back home with them. My dad's, Garfunkel, lived in his tree house, and loved to steal shiney things. And the greatest part of all, is how he only hated one person of their family of 6, and it was my grandmother. No one knows what she DID, but any time she would try to go out back, he would dive bomb her. (she wasn't a great lady, so it may have been deserved.)
Anyway, the next year, my dad and his friend brought them back up north, and the birds went free. (mainly because my grandmother couldn't take it anymore).
Apparently, this is the shit you did in Michigan in the early 60s.
So yes, befriend that crow, and teach it to torment your enemies!
Tumblr media
Be weird, talk to the crows, befriend them, feed them, let them follow you home. Greet them each and every time they're near.
Crows are enchanted ✨️. They teach us from a young age to leave them alone, just like they teach us that magic is "evil".
Believe me when I say... Befriend the crows 😉

She might be a tiny bit insecure about it.
It only recently started snowing here in my usually cold, baltic country lol! Winter was particulary late this year, so this comic was a coping mechanism because it has become one of my favourite seasons :D I'm just uncomfortably hot any other time!!

these are cute pictures but that isn't the source. the twitter account added here clearly stole that without credit, and also posts ai. source for the left image, couldn't find the source for the right image, bc it is likely taken from a vid that has been reposted by this tiktok user that no longer exists /:
