sketching some Thoughts about my human Maul design

I changed his markings a bit because I was not satisfied enough with the original design I sketched

I also gave him piercings because it helps mimic his markings and also fits him

Idk how he lost his legs but during his trash spider era he'd just tie stuff to his legs and walk with that and some discarded crutches he somehow found.

His prosthetics are bone anchored because I feel like it matches his original, with the cybernetics being (painfully) fused to his body with magic

Speaking of, I think they definitely had to remove some more meat (and bone) after his rescue because there's no way his legs weren't at least a little bit infected. like during his trash era he still had part of his lower legs.

(He is more pale in the first two sketches because he was in a trash cave and probably anemic and definitely not healthy at all. btw. he is not supposed to be that pale)

He got a new earring :]

Death Watch may suck but they at least gave him prosthetics more suited for daily use. Goodbye raptor legs. Goodbye extra height.

He definitely uses the crutches to threaten and hit people. as is his right

1. Most likely to go live on a horse ranch Hm. Olina and Taavi, I think, from Behind Bears' Jaws, a WIP I haven't introduced yet. Olina inevitably finds being the Duchess of Markrotha very tiring even under normal circumstances, and Taavi would enjoy sitting on the back porch watching heat lightning. It'd be a good fit for them when they need to get away for a few weeks now and then.

2. Most likely to be part of the theatre club at school Finlay O'Herlihy from These Savage Stars. He was a jazz singer in a bar on Thais Minor for a few years so it checks out.

clone wars: dating sim vn project is still going! :3

it's separated into seven arcs we're calling 'seasons', and we've got a playable version of the intro scenes. the first draft of season one is almost complete. the art is coming along nicely. it's charming, hand painted stuff over original cg frames, and a couple of full cg renders. we've got some sprites to work with too, with different expressions and sometimes outfits. there's about 7-8 people you can romance, and a few hook ups as well.

there's no 'gift' system either, players will really have to click with their fave in conversation (and choose to side with the right faction) to win hearts. there is a polyship option, and custom pronouns too. it's an audacious project, so we're taking our time and keeping things low stress for all our contributors.

we're still looking for more writers/editors, splash screen artists, and ESPECIALLY sprite artists, as well as a musical composer to make the sound track (otherwise we're going to have to hunt down some royalty free stuff) if anyone wants in, shoot me a dm. everyone else: sorry you'll have to wait for beta to play. 🤣

WIP Snip Monday

let's pretend it's Monday, and not Wednesday.

Here is a snippet from "It runs" (This chapter is so stubborn! I promise I am working hard on it, but it's complicated and real life is Hell, so please, bear with me).

“Come back to me, yes, there you go. Breathe," his mother's voice soothes him, drags him back to reality. "Everything will be alright.”

“I-”

Sirius doesn’t understand what happened to him, how seamlessly his mind slipped away, one moment in his home, the next in Azkaban, and now his mother is there, and he's confused-

“It’s alright. I’m here. I know I wasn’t always, but I am here. My Sirius, my brightest star. You’re home, you’re safe. Your brother is safe. That monster is dead. No one will ever hurt you again. I won’t allow it, yes? Breathe.”

He rests his head on her shoulder, tries to breathe normally. He shivers, cold and miserable, but one of her frail arms wraps around his back, draws him closer.

“You will heal,” she tells him. “You will have the best Healers in the world, the best potions, and you will heal. You weren’t there that long, the damage is reversible still, I asked, I asked many experts. You will heal from this.” It sounds like an order.

Sirius always disobeyed her, even if he didn't want to, didn't set out to hurt her. He always ended up disappointing her. He doesn't want to do it again, but that word- 'heal'- it sounds foreign, impossible. It sounds like she's setting him up for failure again, because how can Sirius accomplish it?

“And what potions will heal me from finding my best friend dead? From knowing I had a part in his death?” he whispers, terrified that he has to live with that, forever. That he'll have to find a way to accept it.

How can he? How? It's impossible.

“His son will heal you,” she says, determined, her fingers combing through his hair. “Little by little. You’ll see. You’ll have a piece of him with you. The best piece. Trust me when I say, our children are the best parts of us. What survived of Potter, is the purest part of him, the brightest. And you’ll raise him, do right by him, won’t you? That boy needs you stable, needs your love and care, and he’ll love you back, as only children can love.”

Harry. Yes. That’s true. Sirius will see him soon, will hold him. Tomorrow.

“He killed Voldemort,” Sirius whispers, finally voicing it. It doesn't sound real. “Harry.”

His mother snorts, but she keeps her fingers so gentle in his hair. It makes Sirius remember he once felt safe in her arms. Long ago. So very long ago.

He was sick with dragonpox, so sick, and scared, but she never moved from his bed. She stayed with him, wiped his brow with cold cloths, sang to him, held water to his lips. She hugged him when he shivered.

“Mama, will I die?” he asked, because he’d never felt as sick in his life, and he leaned people can die from feeling sick.

“My brightest star, how do you think I’d let you die? Who would dare take you from my arms? Death? I’d destroy it if it even glances your way.”

Sirius looks into her fierce eyes, and for a moment he thinks his mother is just as strong as his father, perhaps even more, because she seems capable of anything, of scaring death away.

“I may not be the most learned woman in the word, I didn’t go to any Institute, but I have lived for some dozens of years now, Sirius, and I have traveled far and wide, read many books, met many people, heard many things. A baby cannot kill a grown wizard."

Sirius knows. He does. And yet-

“He died," he says, and he shivers savagely. His mother's arm clings harder to him. "I found him there. Dead. In front of Harry’s crib.”

He sees it, all over again. Voldemort's body, his empty eyes, the wand between his fingers.

No, no, no. Stop. Sirius can't, he can't think of it. He bites his tongue, hard, he leans even more into his mother, inhales, and her perfume brings him back from the memory.

“Good riddance," she spits, venomous.

All over Britain, people celebrated Voldemort's death, Sirius knows. 'Good riddance'.

'The monster is gone'.

'Let him rot.'

It's fair, Sirius knows it's fair, that Voldemort caused so much pain, to everyone, his enemies or allies alike.

But it hurts. It hurts so much. He was always alone, that beautiful boy from the picture, the angelic child Sirius imagines, in some muggle orphanage, the fiercest dark lord in the world that cooked for Sirius, that held him in his arms at night. It hurts. It's beyond painful.

“I loved him,” Sirius confesses, and his mother goes still, stiffens all over. “I slept with him. Ate with him. Lived in our- in his home. Will you abandon me, too, now?”

She should leave him. Sirius doesn't deserve anything. He doesn't understand why he still has his family, his sanctuary, when James is dead, when Voldemort is gone, alone and terrified somewhere.

Sirius deserves to be alone, too. They should have left him to rot in Azkaban. It's what he deserves.

She takes a long time to answer. First, she resumes petting his hair, and eventually she rests her chin on his head. She sighs.

Just from that, Sirius can imagine how broken and pitiful he looks, exactly how he feels. He is in such a deplorable state, that she doesn't spit on him, doesn't call him a deviant, a disgrace, a stain on her family name.

“That takes longer to heal from,” she whispers. “Loving a hard, cold man isn’t easy. Even when they are heartless, even when they betray you, over and over again, it still hurts when they die.”

“How long?” Sirius asks. “How long does it take to heal from that?”

She hums. “I will tell you when I have an answer,” she says. “I’m still waiting. You can wait with me.”

She was the epitome of ethereal, a beauty so delicate, so pure in a way that she was too perfect for this world— too perfect for him. She was an angel forged of the purest light with hair as bright as the moon, skin as white as snow, and her eyes—

her eyes held magic.

Full of light, full of innocence, full of stars.

Starry eyes that had him hypnotized.

Starry eyes that had him vow to do anything in his power to keep their light kindle endlessly. 

Starry eyes that made him stumble, but it was her smile that made him fall.

She was a blessing from the gods. A wish upon a shooting star. If he could, he would tear the whole world apart just to rebuild it brick by brick to a standard he deemed worthy of her existence. Worthy of her light— worthy of his light.

This is my WIP elucien week fic, loosely based on the myth of King Midas. I offer my squawking, ugly little duckling to you all...

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom of ancient misted forests and seaside cliffs hewn by the hands of time. It was a land where simple mortals and the immortal trickster Fae lived side by side. A place where fantastical beasts roamed all four Seasonal Courts, the Sun and stars aligned in magical Solar Courts, where monsters lurked in Night...

In this kingdom, there lived a wealthy mortal by the name of Archeron. His vast estate was lined with ancient books and maps, with trunks full of precious gemstones. Cellars of fine wines and spices spoke of his travels. He was known to all as the Prince of Merchants.

The lord had three daughters, each more lovely than the last. And they lived a good life. But over the years, Archeron grew dissatisfied with his own prosperity, wanting more. He watched the Fae to the North of the Wall through glittering, greedy eyes, how they amassed great fortunes over their immortal lifetimes, and grew jealous of their elemental magic. The mortal man coveted such raw power. 

So, he sailed his fleet of trading vessels along perilous coastlines, through choppy seas. He sought out faster, more dangerous routes to transport his goods. He gambled with his wealth, taking great risks for small rewards. 

And then, in a single day, the Prince of Merchants, lost his crown. The missive came after noon. His eldest daughter, Nesta, had just finished her dance lessons. The youngest, Feyre, was running wild on the grounds. And Elain, his sweet Elain, was tending the gardens. 

Lord Archeron held the missive in hand. Lost. Every vessel crashed upon the rocks. The tempests of the Continent had taken them. He knew the risks. The shorelines surrounding Bharat were fraught with peril. But the straights had guaranteed the fastest return for his investment, and Archeron was in vast sums of debt, had borrowed too much.

For the Prince of Merchants loved gold. Coffers filled, pockets lined. Threads of gold along his bed linens, to fill his dreams. He wanted it ringing his fingers, and cuffing his daughters’ wrists. There was never enough. Now, there was none. 

As if on cue, Elain, entered with the tea, the fine porcelain clinking as she set it down. She took in his drawn face, parchment clutched in hand. “Papa? What's happened?” 

The Prince of Merchants dropped to his chair, head in hands, the letter in his fist. 

Elain knelt at his side. “What’s happened?” Her troubled eyes, the soft brown of a meadowlark. “Please.” 

Nesta entered with a rustle of skirts and a clip of her heels. “Elain? What are you doing on the floor?” The eldest walked with the strength of steel and the grace of fire. A savage, beautiful creature, she unapologetically peeled back artifice, like the sharpest of blades. 

“It’s Papa. He’s not well.” Elain’s graceful hands, with their chipped fingernails and scratched palms from clearing the garden, took the letter from their father’s. 

She passed it to Nesta, who rapidly read across the page, then ground out, “how could you?” Archeron’s shoulders slumped forward. Sad brown eyes stared at the floor. “How could you be so greedy, so foolish? Make such bad choices?” Silver flames flickered in the eldest sister’s gaze.  

He looked up at his two eldest, and whispered, “I am ruined.”

What’s been new in writing? / Talk about a WIP you’re working on!

The thing I am most actively writing right now is the next chapter of The Book Smuggler. I’m about halfway through it. The fic as a whole is so close to being done, but I also have other projects/ideas I’m working on and will place them below the cut:

Other than The Book Smuggler, I also have been slowly working on the next chapter of Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. Again, it’s another one that is almost done — maybe 1-2 more chapters. And I think if I don’t finish it before I finish The Book Smuggler, it will be my next priority to try and wrap up.

I’m working on the outline for a boxer!AU featuring PruAus, with a side of Spaus and maybe some Prumano?? It was inspired by @edel-scribe’s boxer!au. Posting my moodboard because I love visuals:

Once the other two are wrapped, I think this will be my next project. That, and continuing to write We Are Not Ourselves 😅.

WIP Questions

scrubbing this off @surroundedbypearls because open tag :) you can find her post here. i'll be answering these about my current release, these savage stars, and its sequel, thief of hearts and words.

I. What’s the first part of your WIP that you created? The characters. These Savage Stars and Thief of Hearts and Words started as a joke between a friend of mine and I about myself and some of my own character traits so I started from there and built outwards.

II. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be? Hm. Going off the series playlist, I think probably either "Youth" by Daughter or "Justice" by Bruce Cockburn. Maybe "Atomic City" by U2.

III. What are your favorite characters that you made? Why? Undoubtedly Leena May Loy and Sasha Symborska. Y'all haven't met Sasha yet, he's coming in Book 2 where he and West square off for the right to be the titular "thief." I can explain why his name has a feminine ending if anyone wants though it's probably obvious (he's genderfunky enough to do that because he thinks it sounds better).

IV. What other pieces of media do you think your fanbase would share? I think they would like Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Both of those were major influences on CTOG/Crater of Grace (the overarching universe of which TSS and TOHAW are part). I think they might also like Heidi Heilig's work because our writing styles are similar, and Jules Verne's "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea," though be aware that book is definitely a Product Of Its Time.

V. What has been your biggest struggle with your WIP? Making the transition from the (completed) TSS to the work-in-progress TOHAW. There's a distinct tonal shift that happens between the sort of revenge-driven plot of TSS and then TOHAW as the aftermath, as the "oh god what do we do now," where they have to double down and commit to a bit not all of them necessarily want to commit to because it's the only choice they have.

VI. Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them! Not really :( Though my personal belief is that kind of far future space opera setting would be far from devoid of animals and there'd definitely be people keeping pets and also just general critters and creatures that stow away and get themselves off-planet for an adventure, I'm just genuinely terrible at writing animal characters specifically remembering they're there (people who've followed me from the TLH fandom will be well aware that I wholly forget Oscar exists all the time). I don't include them so I don't end up with Plot Holes and Mysteries.

VII. How do your characters travel/get around? In space, by starship, and on space stations by walking and taking elevators like you normally would indoors. I'm realizing I'm probably going to need to include some land-travel options in TOHAW. Mostly I imagine they'll walk but I think West will probably have an electrobike and I really liked the ox-bikes or whatever they were called (basically sci-fi rickshaws) from A Psalm For The Wild Built so I might include something similar.

VIII. What part of your WIP are you working on right now? I'm drafting Book 2!

IX. What aspects (tropes, maybe?) you think will draw your audience in? I think the mix of sci-fi and fantasy (faeries in space!) will be the biggest draw. It's niche and going to be a bit of a steep on-ramp for some people but I know others will find the concept interesting enough to see how it's done. Having a nonbinary protagonist will be another one I think, and that we have a good percentage of aromantic characters in it (three out of eleven) and Gadiel and Leena, the only m/f ship, are asexual. It's not a kind of diversity you see often in fiction, I'm writing for my fellows who get sick and tired of not seeing themselves. I imagine also the intrigue plot will draw readers. We've rescued a guy who was kidnapped and doesn't know why and now we've got to find out :)

X. What are your hopes for your WIP? Hm. To get some good comments and not be eighty-five by the time it's done.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

I have 46! Still a surprise to see it because I feel like I just started writing yesterday

2. What's your AO3 word count?

Right now it's 444.955 words

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Star wars. I do have thought about dipping my paws into other fandoms- but the pull towards them hasn't been strong enough yet

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

I don't. Because I am really bad at not spoiling. I just get so excited that I would spam the person with spoilers...and that would ruin the fun. But I read all of them and they make me cry with how kind they are

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angsties ending?

Uhhhh.....I don't think my fics are that angsty? But emotional wise I'd say "Silent Cries". I've been experimenting with emotions in that one

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I'd say.....Father-(Future) Son Bonding Activities but it's not finished yet. And I've been working on a second Dad|Bail & Son|Fox fic that's gonna have a cute happy ending.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Nope. I'm a niche writer so not many people pay attention enough to get angry. The most I've gotten was comments wishing for a different ending but that's not exactly hateful.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Well.....right now I only remember the tentacle smut in the Eldritch series I have (The Rebel Yell Series) and sort of "naughty" dreams the characters have (The Fear In His Eyes, Doctor's Orders)

10. Do you write cross overs? What's the craziest one you've written?

I haven't. Yet. My versions of cross overs are basically just AUs.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No? Not that I know of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope but it sounds fun. So maybe in the future.

14. What's your all time favorite ship?

Bacara/Fox. Definitely. And Bacara/Wolffe...or them as poly.

But I've also grown very fond of Maul/Cody, Savage/Rex and even Feral/Wooley.

CorriePoly is always great as well as Mij/Jango. And even Maul/Fox has great angst potential.

Hardcase/Dogma is adorable and the idea of Fives/Tup/Echo is funny in a cute way.

....and Boba/Din.

15. What's a WIP you'd like to finish but doubt you ever will?

This one hurts....but basically all of the ones I've posted first when I started writing and then forgot about because my attention went from one idea to another.

But I think it's "Commander Wolffe and the Galaxy of Tomorrow". This one haunts me. I still think about it and really hope I will finish it one day.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I've been told I'm good at setting a scene. And my world building is nice?

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Dialogue. 100%. It's a surprise for both the reader and I what the characters are going to say...

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

It sounds both fun and complicated. On one side it would be great for world building but on the other side it could pull everyone reading out of the story if they don't know the language and having to go back and forth just to translate it. Personally I think it's fine if it's just single words that are known in the fandom and everyone knows the meaning of them. It's a good middle ground for both sides

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

"Commander Wolffe and the Galaxy of Tomorrow"

20. Favorite fic you've ever written?

The Rebel Yell Series was a lot of fun to write and I'm just waiting for the next wave of inspiration to continue it.

The Witch|Fox fics were soft and comforting to write and think about.

The Light Series has a sort of bittersweet comfort vibe to it but the most fun so far has been the Dad|Bail fic because it allows me to focus more on Bail and show the human (and dad) side of him instead of the serious senator we see in the movies. But also the world building has been a lot of fun to think about- like the music scene on Coruscant or the relationships between civilians and the Clones and Senators

1) How many works do you have on AO3

23 currently!

2) What's your total AO3 word count?

245,631 and counting...... (as i new chapter of a fic should be going up any day now)

3) What fandoms do you write for?

Starfield, Deus Ex, Vampyr, Dishonored, Thief and one for Destiny2 at the moment.

4) Top five fics by kudos?

Savages, Paradigm Shift, To See Beyond Forever, Starry Starry Night and Take me Away from All this Death. (would love to see some of my Starfield fics get in here by next year! ).

5) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I always do, comments fuel me! Seriously the serotonin boost from getting a comment is often exactly what i need to keep writing.

6) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Shattered Reflections i'd say. (but chapter wise, it's my new one Chasing Your Star...)

7) What’s the fic you write with the happiest ending?

That will be.... [redacted].

8) Do you get hate on fics?

First fic i published on Ao3 got a unsolicited crit. One point was valid but the other i thought was unwarranted...and in fact incorrect anyway. But other than that, i've had nothing but positive comments.

9) Do you write smut?

haha.....oh ...OH YES. But always with plot and in context of story.

10) Do you write crossovers?

Yes i have one crossover right now - Emerging Shadow (Dishonored/Thief), but i plan another -( deux ex/ Assassin's Creed).

Probably by AI.....

No, i dont believe so.

No, i'm too much of a control freak for story telling, though i do work with others to work out plot points sometimes.

Named ships? Emsider and McReid. (also Sam Coe& Spacefarer).

15) What’s the WIP you hope to finish but doubt you ever will?

Im not jinxing anything. I WILL finish all my fics. It just might take a while...But i doubt i will write any more for the Destiny fandom.

16) What are your writing strengths?

Story telling and scene setting I'd like to think.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

Expanded grammar and finishing stories.

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I try to find someone who speaks the language natively to help me with any foreign dialogue i might add.

19) First fandom you wrote for?

Xena, Warrior Princess. Back in my Live Journal days.

20) Favourite fic you’ve ever written? I have to admit i have a soft spot for Obsidian Dreams and Take me Away from All this Death. But i am absolutely loving writing Chasing Your Star Until I Find Home.
