One of us got to see Stanley & Thom’s art (in tapestry form!) in person in London. The other one is very jealous. But we found a way to record a new episode for you all, out tomorrow!

When I was 16, freshly to art college and first time out of my family in my own appartment I dreamt of a bright colored atmosphere of adventure and departure and heard a wind whisper call like Eee-ooo-beee and some mystical harmonic tones.

Inspiring composition and I tried many times to catch this on canvas ✨🎶

My perspective in the dream was strange, ground was quite distant and trees were actually small. So I was curious and searched something with mirroring surface and flinched back when I saw my reflection was a big white multicolor opalescent dragon 🤩 Cool ✨

I loved it and Eobe is my artist self and inspiration since ✨Should do an artwork try on the dragon yet again 🐉

I’m obsessed with the art in this series based on @astral-veil art ‘Echo while waiting for his prosthetics’ and the subsequent additions to the series by: @foxwithadarkside art and @eobe art

I was really inspired by @foxwithadarkside suggestion to add the next stage with Wrecker, but I’m definitely not including myself officially in this series because I will leave that to a much more competent and talented artist. This is just my little late night doodle attempt for my own sake.

You can kinda tell I gave up by the point I had to draw Hunter. Usually I find him the easiest to draw but not tonight. Nothing I do seems to make him look like the character so I am just ignoring him.

Texting it out down here cause in video would go by to fast. Also the video for the sketch layer didn't save so it picks up at me starting on Cross's face. Not too much missed, I only rough out some shapes and copy/paste them where I want them from frame to frame.

It takes me about 2 hours or so to make one of these. I'm using a mouse rather than a tablet so you'll notice my style is more like carving with lines rather than drawing.

I fill my background and put down a very rough sketch. I keep it rough mostly do to impatience. The line work does turn out better if I do a more detailed sketch but that doesn't matter. None of this matters.

Things I always do that I know to correct in my line work as I go: "That head too big! Always too big! Eyes too! Shrink erything."

I do the line art in a free program called ProMotion. It's for animation but I don't care, I'm looking for clean sharp lines and tools that let me copy/paste and instantly make brushes of pieces that I highlight. Its a pixel based program and I would normally use it to make sprites for my RPG maker games.

IMPORTANT STEP: ZOOM IN AND OUT OVER AND OVER AND OVER TILL YOU DONT CARE IF IT LOOKS RIGHT ANYMORE.

Then we take that line art and shove it into Photopea for coloring. This is another free program that's a clone of Adobe because I like photoshop tools but hate Adobe as a company with a fiery passion.

Yes I just kind of choose whatever color. I could make a reference sheet with saved colors but TRUST ME. I wont use it. I almost never use references, i forget, okay. Mostly drawing from memory.

Each color gets a layer essentially and then I "paint" them with the burn tool. (Midtones 20%) Cross's armor gets highlights on the ridges with the dodge tool. (Also Midtones 20%)

Add Blush to the skin! Thin points like face, shoulders, finger tips. Blur Blur Blur till it looks right.

Also, remember how I said I was looking for clean clean lines with no blur? That's cause I just clean up the "paint" by selecting with the magic wand and deleting it.

I make my backgrounds out of stock textures mostly. Though this usually takes a little bit more collage work this strip is simple so I just used the gritty/tech wall texture. Blur that bitch. (Gaussian Blur under the filter tab, whatever looks right but the default 7 pixels is usually good for the BG)

To add motion I copy the bits I want to seem like they're moving and use the "Motion Blur" filter, then I put that copied color over the background line art.

Add shadows! Under the coloring layers, that handy gaussian blur again.

Add Lighting! I usually have the overlayer set to "Soft Light" and then I use the gradient tool to filter everything to look cohesive. (You might notice I keep their skin tone pretty dark but it might look different when I change the lighting.)

Warp the action words... just...whatever feels appropriate at the time and set that layer to "Color Burn"

I just use the Oval select tool with the feather set between 3-5 pixels to make word bubbles. Paint it in voila. Add Text. All done!

I am so glad I found you here on Tumblr when you just joined back in early September, and I’ve been in love with your art ever since. Your unique style of crosshatching is so comforting, so soul soothing, so satisfying and so magical <3 (And as always I can’t shut up about the way you crosshatch tattoos like Hunter’s..) You’re so skilled and talented, and it’s so much fun to see you grow and get more comfortable along the road! You’re such an inspiration to me and I look up to you as both an artist and a person! Because you’re such an amazing human being; you’re so kind, understanding, supportive and wholesome <3 You always manage to make me laugh, to bring a smile to my face, or a tear to my eye. Congratulations Djo!!

Djo recently became No.1 on Spotify Global with End of Beginning and was awarded the BritCertified Silver Award with EoB as well!! 🎊

A huge congratulations and celebration for Djo. Words cannot describe how much I love this song, but I’ll try. ✍🏽

End of Beginning released September 16th 2022, a time where I was really struggling, two months after I was losing my ability to walk, my FND was getting gradually worse and it was before official diagnosis in November 2022. Funnily enough, was the 16th. I drew the initial pencil sketch on the airplane while listening to the song, how cool is that?? Haha

I’ve had a lot of thought and while listening to the song, I released I don’t have a ‘Chicago’. Instead of a place, it’s people. Versions of me that I was when I have had these friendships, relationships and passings with folks. Certain songs and my art that hold so many memories, that I can look back on and see how much I’ve changed, improved and grown.

Djo, your song, your music as a whole has really helped me out during such an incredibly difficult time and saved me more times than I can count.

I’ve been enjoying your interviews and listening to you talk about EoB but also the DECIDE album as a whole. Plus learning new things and getting to know more about you and your music has been delightful.

I’m so thankful and grateful I am able to listen to it and be alive to this day to see you grow as a music artist; to witness you do creative and passionate things. The things you love.

Last Book: Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao; i don't think my textbooks count so this was the last book. also this was the first book i finished in years!

Last Movie: Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One; i'm super excited for part 2 this year :D

Last Show: Doctor Who; specifically "Time of the Doctor," "The Doctor's Wife," and "Into the Dalek" though i've seen all of series 1-10 of the revived era :3

Sweet/spicy/savory: man, that's hard. i like both sweet and spicy food in moderation

Relationship status: single

Last thing I googled: "kinematic equations;" i was playing a ttrpg with my friends last night, and they wanted to know what the acceleration of something floating down a river would be given some arbitrary values for initial velocity, distance, and time. it was .225 ft/s/s btw

Current obsession: clone wars and the clones. i won't shut up about them. i love the silly little boys so much. i thought i'd find something new by now. NO! MORE CLONES!!!

I look forward to telling you: i got so many ideas kicking around. i got oc ideas sitting in sketches. i got an entire bad batch au i've been workshopping with one of my closest friends for months. there's also my overall art plans for the year. for being so inarticulate, i won't shut up XD

The way he talks about and is like with his mother and sister might be his biggest green flag to me! I always melt a little when he brings them up in interviews (and even in his music!). He's probably in Chicago for work related things as well, but the fact that one of the first things he did was go to support her at her art exhibition is just 🥹

I find that normally men with sisters are sweet. I love that he went to it. Good timing! I wonder how many times he heard EOB though
