“Did you break my nose?” Theo groans, feeling his nose snap back into place and slowly heal, the tears in his eyes drying up as the pain subsides.

“I didn’t know how to snap you out of it. You kept walking around. Like you were trying to fight to come back.” Liam softly explains, using his shirt sleeve to wipe the dry blood from Theo’s face.

“Thanks.” He takes in Liam’s disheveled face, the soft blue eyes that are worried, the gentle touch of a wolf that’s unsure of how to react; and he smiles, placing his hand on Liam’s wrist, holding it close to his chest.

Several Sentences Sunday

Working away on the Christmas Carol fic and still planning to have it up before Christmas 🤞Here's another snippet!

A Kinley Christmas Carol

“Kinard, take a break, man,” Melton called out as he strolled up with a grin. “Leave a few chores for the poor probie or he’ll think we don’t like him.”

Tommy managed to muster up a smirk to shoot back at him. “You just want me to laze around with the rest of you so you don’t look bad.”

“I’m serious,” Melton said, lowering his voice as he got closer. “Relax and hang out with everyone for a bit. It’s Christmas Eve.”

As if Tommy wasn’t already well aware of that.

“Still a shift with all the usual jobs to get done. No different from any other.” Tommy dunked the mop back in the bucket, meanly satisfied when water slopped over the sides and forced Melton to take a step back. He kept his head down, willing the guy to walk away.

Swallowed back a curse when he didn’t.

“Listen, I know things have been rough with the bre—with everything, but we’re all here for you.” Melton drifted toward him again. “Why don’t you come over tonight?  The kids would love to see you and Ava’s already been texting, asking me to tell you there’s an extra plate set. What do you say?”

The offer poked at Tommy, prodding all the soft places he’d been trying to shore up—the patches that kept crumbling no matter how many ways he tried to smooth them over.

What did he say?

That he was tired of being the extra plate.

Tired of orbiting around families he had no real place in.

Melton and Ava were lovely people and their kids were awesome, but Tommy didn’t think he’d survive a night full of such kind-hearted pity.

A strange mix of cockiness and raw desperation coloured Noah's voice as he responded, "Don't you fucking dare, not until I fill her mouth.”

Hey.

So, uh…

Remember that art thing I said I was working on?

Well…

It’s still pretty messy, but… Here you go.

ISAT-STYLE HAT KID.

Look at her! She’s so energetic! And not depressed! So unlike Siffrin!

She got that cape! And that umbrella! And her signature hat!

I think I did pretty well at capturing the ISAT art style. Certainly for my first time. A colored version does exist, but I’m saving that for another day, when I can post the finished versions. To talk about the art itself, I used Bonnie as my primary reference, since they’re the only one who’s not an adult. For example, Hat Kid has blush stickers and no nose shadow, since that seems to be a kid thing. I also borrowed Mirabelle’s rapier to get an idea of the perspective on the umbrella, which helped out a lot. I also decided to keep Hat Kid’s thicker upper eye line and her eyelash-thingies, since I feel they make her more distinctive from the other characters, in a good way. They’re also pretty satisfying to draw, not gonna lie.

For those of you who don’t know, this is part of me demo’ing an AU idea I had, called In Hats and Time. As you might guess, it’s a combination of In Stars and Time and A Hat in Time. (I just realized I could call it “A Hat in Stars and Time”, or “AHISAT”, but that’s a bit wordy.) I don’t have a story, like, at all. Not set in stone, anyway. But I do have a few ideas. I’ll probably post about it later.

AAHHH! I’m really excited to share this. It’s a new kind of art project for me, doing this kind of style swap, but I’m really liking how it’s going.

Edit: I should’ve done this earlier, but here is a similar drawing I did of Siffrin in the AHIT art style, also grayscale. Figured I should plug that.

Character Inspiration | Deputy Sabrina Donovan

"Bad night?", Mary May leaned against the bar, clearly sensing how off Sabrina felt despite her attempts to hide it, "What did Rookie do this time?" The certainty of the question won a surprised chuckle out of her, "Nothing. Cal's a gem. Just missing... home." Something about how busy the Spread Eagle was that night filled her with nostalgia over the regular late-night outings with her fellow Detectives back in Portland. She could almost imagine twisting her head and meeting Oliver's devilish gaze instead of making eye contact with the tired local that was occupying the seat next to hers and ranting about John Seed being a pain in his ass. It would be just Les complaining Ollie is the biggest pain in his. "Gem?", it was Mary May's turn to laugh, "You sure you mean our Calahan?" "Ouch.", Hartley exclaimed all-too-dramatically as he slid into the vacant chair at the bar and sent a wink towards her, obviously encouraged by the choice of words, "I'd say I'm hurt, but we both know you don't mean it, Mary May." True to their usual banter, an eyeroll followed in response to his flirting, "Make yourself useful, Rookie, and cheer the Deputy up. Would be a shame if we lose her to Oregon, when she's keeping you in check so well."

“Hey, is Theo in his office?” Liam asks Donovan, his scowl making him feel like he’s the worst person in the world, the chimera eyeing him with a cold smile.

“Yes, but let me interrupt.” Donovan scoffs, throwing the door open and horrifying Liam as he’s met with three random strangers looking back at him, very much upset to see him standing there.

“Donovan, what are you doing?” Theo’s angry voice blares, as Liam fights off the urge to leave, not wanting to be responsible for someone getting killed or punished over his spontaneous behavior to show up.

“Sorry, Liam showed up and we all know he can’t wait.” Donovan says, the ice in his words creating a sinking feeling in Liam’s stomach, insulted by the view he’s created of himself.

“Then why didn’t you say it was Liam, instead of opening the door without any explanation? Get out.” Theo growls, as Donovan’s face falls, leaving the room with his head down.

Theo comes out into the hallway, where Liam is standing, deciding if he needs to bail and stop being an unwelcome guest in a business meeting.

“I’m almost done.” Theo says, smiling when he sees Liam, and it’s melting away all the ways he wants to explain why he’s here, and being pulled into the room with the wolf is the only thing he can think about.

Fic Extract: The Secrets We Keep*

* Working Title, subject to change

Here is an extract of a Benedict Bridgerton x fem!reader request I have been writing, in little chunks, for many months. It will likely have a dash of everything - fluff, humour, mild angst and maybe a touch of smut.

I really want to concentrate on getting this delivered soon, so this post is to motivate/scare myself lol. I hope you enjoy it 🫶

“Where are we going!?” you demand, his gloved hand tugging yours along through the darkened gardens.

“Shh, if we are seen, you’ll be ruined,” he hushes you but keeps moving, furtive and fast, your feet having to take extra steps to keep up with his long stride over the lush, dewy grass.

“Benedict…” you try again, once you round a thick hedge into the rose garden. “What is going on?”

He slows a little, but does not relinquish his tight hold. Gravel path now crunching under his boots as the honeyed scent of damask hangs heavy in the air.

“Eloise told me,” is all he offers. “So we are escaping.”

“W-we are?” you stutter, frowning.

“Yes! Or at least we would be if you would keep quiet… please…” he amends, sounding a touch contrite about his initial brusqueness, but speeding up again, headed straight for a small wooden door in a high stone wall, almost hidden behind long, draping ropes of ivy, glowing silver in the moonlight.

When you reach it, he releases his grip on your hand and shoulders the door open with considerable force. The weathered wood creaks loudly, almost splintering under the duress. He signals to the inky blackness of the deserted mews behind Bridgerton House.

“It is now or never, y/n,” he warns, as you look back at the house, lit up with the life of the ball inside. “So what is your choice?”

He watched as Zoro glanced over at the others. "Well, captain, I guess I wouldn't be thrilled if you decided you wanted us to sail under another man's flag." "Would you leave?" Luffy was gripped with a sudden terrible panic that Zoro's soft look and little shake of his head immediately assuaged. "Never." Two years ago, in the first few months when they had met, Luffy was sure that the answer would have been 'yes'. He let go of Zoro's hand and twined his arms around his arm in a curling spiral instead, walking as close to him as possible. They were quiet together for a moment, bathed in the last warm rays of twilight and the soft chatter of the rest of the Straw Hats, and the former Heart Pirates and Doflamingo– all of them surrounded by the greater, distant noise of the crowd and Uta's song. When Luffy had been little, talking with Ace and Sabo about how they'd all be pirate captains, he didn't really understand what that meant, or why it meant that the three of them couldn't sail together. It had been Zoro who taught Luffy what being a captain meant. He still wasn't sure that he understood it. Or maybe it was more that there was a part of him that didn't quite like the answer. Pride. Pride and rank. It made him think of the marines.  And he hated it.
