Now that’s a family

I’m wanting to color these eventually but it’ll be a hot minute before I’m able to finish it so I figured I’d post the sketches at least

Some lore info also on Marion’s preference for corsets that go to the waist when I’ve mentioned that traditional Dominion fashion has empire waistlines! I’m treating this kind of how French fashion was treated in courts during the 1700s. Marion loves fashion and she loves staying on top of trends. The shape of the style of corset she’s often shown in is what was in vogue for a lot of royal courts at the time before The Fall of Domino, so that’s why she and Daphne are often on it. It was the main fashion of the Dominion court at that time due to Marion’s influence.

Since Domino is back in the limelight now tho, having just been resurrected, a push for Bloom and others to wear more traditional styled garments is important to cement that they’re still a strong people with a strong culture and aren’t to be looked down on after everything that happened.

However, for the picture post Daphne’s resurrection, the reason she’s wearing the traditional empire waistline is because she’s lost a lot of weight because of overstimulation with texture and issues of ptsd affecting everything, and that style of clothing utilizing the physically bigger elements present in the shape of Dominion clothing covers how thin she actually is. It’s a farce.

So glad everyone chooses to finally talk and work on getting better and properly supporting Bloom and Daphne. Love a good family unit.

Question, why couldn’t mike and Vanessa just get a house out in magix? It seems like the protective bubble for non magical being is just around the school. Does this mean that the specialist are magical being then?

I really hope the Winx reboot is staying true to itself when it comes to Mike and Vanessa because they’re awesome and something about the way they were treated from S5 and on rubs me wrong way. Don’t get me wrong, I love Marion and Oritel (you have no idea), but Mike and Vanessa have always been supportive of Bloom throughout her whole journey, always prioritizing her needs before theirs. They supported her when she went to another planet out of the blue, they never showed any remorse when she went out looking for her bio parents because they understood how important it was to her to find closure. They are absolutely the best and it’s so rare to find such good portrayal of adoptive parents that I hope they’re not messing that up in the reboot.

What I want is Mike and Vanessa being parents to every kid Bloom brings home. Stella having issues with her parents' divorce? M&V are bonus parents. Helia not seeing much of his parents? M&V are bonus parents. Musa having issues with her dad? M&V are bonus parents. Layla feeling overwhelmed with the expectations her parents put on her? M&V are bonus parents. Riven not having parents? M&V are bonus parents. Sky and Brandon... being Sky and Brandon? M&V are bonus parents. Any of the Winx and Specialists who legit have a good home life? Doesn't matter, M&V are bonus parents. It makes no difference to them if the kid is royal or from the gutters, they're important to Bloom and they're KIDS and they're gonna be there for them. Also, YES, they treat them like kids. Yes, they're aware those kids save universe of yearly basis and face danger even more often, but that's no reason to have their childhood stripped away from them. And it doesn't matter if society and life already beat them into maturing faster, in Gardenia they will always find the support that maybe they don't always NEED, anymore, but damn it if it isn't nice. And same goes for Timmy's parents! Timmy, in my opinion, has the biggest fam out of the whole cast, and they're amazing. And they live in a huge house, yes, but they also have a bunch of people living there, so even tho it is big, the sleeping solutions when having lots of overnight guests are bed sharing, couches, blow up mattresses- but it is all super cozy and amazing and just so much gooey goodness to contrast the stress the cast otherwise experiences. They have money, but when you go there, there is no flashy excess. It's just extremely comfortable.

Winx Families: Bloom!

Just like in canon, Bloom has two sets of parents and her older sister Daphne. Both her Earth family and her Dominon family get along very well and work together to be one blended unit.

Mike and Vanessa Hernandez-Carter are Bloom's adoptive parents. Vanessa runs her own flower shop called The Garden of Eden. Mike used to be a full-time firefighter, but he has since retired and is now working in the shop with Vanessa. They're college sweethearts, and Bloom considers them to be relationship goals.

They're both Bloom's number 1 supporters and have taken finding out their daughter is a fairy princess in relative stride. They love all the girls and regularly host sleepovers for the club.

King and Queen Oritel and Marion WyDrak of Domino are Bloom's biological parents. Marion Fairy of Fury is Queen Regnant of the planet as well as the head of Domino's Council of Guardian Fairies. She's also a holder of the Dragon Flame. Oritel is a wizard and served in the royal military before he married and became king. They were 3700 at the time of Domino's disappearance.

They met at age 20 when Marion snuck out of a ball her parents were hosting to have a moment of peace. Oritel found her in the gardens reading a book of poetry. It was coincidently his favorite poet, and they spent the evening reading to each other.

They are a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the battlefield. Marion is famous through the universe for her sharp tongue. Oritel, while more introverted, is well versed in sarcasm and is not afraid to use it. Privately, they are both huge dorks. They love puzzles, poetry, and studying mythology (a trait Bloom inherited).

Daphne Wydrak is Bloom's older sister. She is the Crown Princess of Domino, Guardian Fairy of Domino, Nymph of Sparks, and a holder of the Dragon Flame. She was 200 years old during Domino's disappearance.

Daphne is a magical prodigy, being accepted into Alfea at only 14. Faragonda recognized her potential and began mentoring her. She was the youngest fairy to earn the title of Nymph, doing so at the age of 100. Her magical prowness is what led the ancestral witches to focus on Domino.

Daphne herself is a rather awkward person, having to live up both to her mother's legacy as well as the accolades she's earned. She loves journaling her spare time and has amassed quite the collection of journals. She's aro ace and is very happy to just have a cat as her companion.

Mike & Vanessa Peters

Mike is older than Vanessa by 1 year. 

Mike was 34 when Bloom was adopted, and Vanessa was 33

Mike comes from a large family, none of whom live close by. Vanessa on the other hand is an only child. 

The reason why Mike and Vanessa don’t have children of their own is because Vanessa had ovarian cancer at the age of 29, only five years after beating breast cancer. She had to have an ovary removed as well as a section of the attached fallopian tube removed as well. However, the chemo drugs she took after her surgery caused damage to the eggs in her remaining ovary. While she isn’t completely infertile, a series of painful miscarriages resulted in the couple giving up on their hopes of starting a family. 

The therapy and surgery that Vanessa underwent was pricey and Mike had to borrow money from family and friends in order to pay the medical bills. 

It was only a few months prior to Bloom’s 16th birthday that Mike was able to pay back all the money he had borrowed from his family but still had a bit more to go in repaying some friends. 

The couple had been looking into adoption and foster care when Mike had discovered Bloom in a burning building. 

Mike had called Vanessa at the station while still holding an exhausted Bloom. Vanessa had come as soon as she got the call and it was love at first sight as the two of them held Bloom in their arms. They inquired with the police officers on what would happen to the baby if a parent or guardian weren’t found. 

When nothing was found about Bloom’s background, and it was assumed that she had been abandoned, Mike and Vanessa were the first to jump at the chance to foster her.  

After a year and a half the couple were finally able to file for a proper adoption. 

Bloom grew up happy and healthy and never really questioned her parentage, until a very fateful day in the little city of Gardenia.

✨ The Winx Tarot ✨

I am currently designing a Rider-Waite tarot inspired by all the Winx club seasons (including S8 which I need to finish). I got the idea of making this tarot while rewatching S2 because the codex is in four parts, each associated with a keeper and a school/village, which fit perfectly with the four tarot suits

The Winx Tarot is made up of the 78 traditional cards and probably some additional ones knowing myself (edit: I was right, we have additional ones), I also plan on making a booklet, a box pattern and a tarot cloth (my goal is to be able to print my tarot and actually use it)

You will find some additional info and the full list of cards under the cut, I will add links to their WIP and final versions as I draw them :3

I like the idea that mike and Vanessa have some recollection of the magic dimension or just magic in general like make mike a former specialist who settled down in earth and found a nice earth girl who turned out to be a dryad and that why they heard daphne and that’s why they weren’t shocked by the burning building stop burning as soon as mike picked bloom up and have them be supportive of her and her wonders
