JEROME, COFFEE AND A MONTE CRISTO, NOW!!! ☕️🥪
I’m not sure If I’ve mentioned it here or if it’s something I’ve been keeping hush-hush, but this illustration, as well as the Jack Horner drawing, are a part of a little series! I’m planning on making an illustration, and subsequently a print, of every Shrek villain. Farquaad is next :) I have his drawing finished, and you can see the uncolored version right now on patreon if you want.

🎨 COLOR WHEEL 🎨
This took me a PRETTY long time and also a lot of IRL delays, hence why I'm posting on such a weird day (Monday). But I'm SUPER happy with the end result and that I finally got to draw so many of my favs that I never had before (these were all chosen by me hehe).
❤️ Fairy Godmother (Shrek) 🧡 Radley Heeler (Bluey) 💛 Chloé Bourgeois/Queen Bee (Miraculous Ladybug) 💚 Prince Naveen of Maldonia (The Princess and the Frog) 🩵 James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (Monsters. Inc), with a bonus Mike Wazowski, bc I could not pass on doing the gag xD 💙 Barley Lightfoot (Onward) 💜 Tecna (Winx Club) 🩷 Spinel (Steven Universe)
I also have individual slides of each one of these characters, but this post would be RIDICULOUSLY long if I posted them here. Maybe I will eventually, but in the meantime, you can check them out on my Insta or Twitter (or I guess the latter is "X" now. *SIGH* Just why? 😓)

So after Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, I’ve seen a few jokes about Death the Wolf being present for every Death in the Shrek franchise (Fairy Godmother’s death in Shrek 2, Harold’s or Charming’s death in Shrek The Third, etc)
Meanwhile - if we’re taking Shrek 4-D as canon - I’m  picturing Death side- eyeing Farquaad’s ghost. Especially when he declared that he will rule the Underworld. Which depending on the folklore, is more often than not the Death’s domain, be it a god of death, or an angel of death.
Bottom line, while Farquaad’s ghost was plotting to kill Fiona, Death was at the river’s edge, sharpening his sickles. And considering Farquaad was A. an arrogant prick and B. a spirit at this point ? He may have very well seen Death all the while.
-----
Farquaad’s Ghost: “You might as well stop struggling, Princess; soon, you and I will be together forever. With you as my spirit Queen, I will be King of the Underworld!”
Death The Wolf: (chuckles humorlessly) “Oh, you audaz hijo de puta.”

Ok so I find it really poetic that big jack horner hated fairytale creatures, specefically hating talking animals, and what ends up getting him in the end is puss in boots, kitty softpaws, Pedro, and the three bears.
And what else ends up getting him in the end? Death, a talking, omniscient, fairytale wolf.
And this retroactively makes all the previous Shrek villians deaths ironic is that, on top of being defeated by Shrek in the end, the person who reaps their soul is the very thing they hated
Also bonus points if he's trans so prince charming and the fairy godmother's calling the big bad wolf "gender confused" bc he likes wearing women's clothing is karmic punishment. Death definitely has cool tattoos over his top surgery scars lmao.
Also also, I feel like death chooses a talking anthro wolf as his form for a few reasons ; 1) mess with bigots who hate fairytale creatures, 2) scare talking cats since they have 9 lives, it makes sense he would be annoyed with this. And 3) to appear both soft and cute, but also be menacing and terrifying at the same time.
Imagine if you died of old age, in a hospital, and a giant adorable wolf comes to great you as an old friend.
But also imagine if you squandered your life, made a joke out of it and a giant wolf runs towards with blood red eyes.

Do you think that Prince Charming is an artificial human created by Fairy Godmother magically? Or that Godmother is a divorced ex-Queen and so, Charming does have an estranged father somewhere?
Alright, Anon, hear me out with this one. I’m breaking out the Shrek the Third novelization.
So when Shrek and Co meet Merlin for the first time and try to convince him to get them back to Far Far Away, he gives them this as a response to why he doesn’t do magic anymore.
Tumblr media
Listen, if we’re on the same page here, it’s HEAVILY implied that Fairy Godmother and Merlin were once in a relationship, got married, and she took Merlin’s preexisting spells in the divorce, which is how I believe she built her potion empire but that is not today’s topic of discussion.
Personally, I think (and have discussed with another Tumblr friend) that Charming came from one of these stolen spells, or was a joint project FGM and Merlin worked on together that when stolen, ended up resulting in Merlin’s breakdown.
With how dependent Charming is/was on FGM, I definitely think that she was his only parental throughout his whole life, and it feels plausible that he’s a magic creation so FGM could have a way to access the crown, therefore creating the perfect Prince Charming figure for the kingdom’s princess.

Mate, I need to know more about this tangled au.Like imagine if death’s parents drink a crushed up moonstone instead of a sundrop flower and they and death’s kidnapper who I want to be fairy godmother think he’s just a wolf with hurt powers but he’s an avatar for DEATH. I think it would more interesting if he knows and he’s “playing with his food”. He’ll have the reverse incarnation instead of the healing one
THAT IS AN AMAZING IDEA
ok ok so like what if fairy godmother also uses Death's powers against him. she knows that his power is deadly and uses it against him. she tells him that he's a monster and that everyone will fear him because of it.
his power being the complete opposite of what rapunzel's power is just SUCH A GOOD IDEA
LIKE SERIOUSLY TELL ME MOREEE

The 20 min tangent I had to go on as to why Death/Lobo is the antagonist and not the villain, if Big Jack Horner wins everyone loses. If Lobo wins Puss loses- and it’s not like he escaped him, he’s still gonna die just not now. Jack has a clear motive, he hates all magical creatures and wants them gone and to take over the world so he’s the only powerful one. Lobo just kinda fucking hates Puss, he doesn’t attack anyone else or even makes himself known until the end. He doesn’t even try to one up Jack because Jack doesn’t take his life for granted he revels in the fact that’s he’s so powerful and can fuck over other people and ruin their lives just because. Everyone makes due with what they have (Perrito, Kitty, the Three Bears) or actively seeks to improve their life (Jack, Goldie). He’s not a villian he’s just doing his job.
All this to say: “I understand Rameses is better but no villain will ever top Fairy God Mother.”

Call of Death by Darklordi
As she prepares for what she thought would be the evening of her triumph, the Fairy Godmother then hears a call which, unbeknownst to her, signals the beginning of the end for her.

Shrek 2, while a cinematic masterpiece, is also an interesting look at queerness and comp het.
Fiona is married so it's time to reunite with her parents. But instead of marrying a prince, she's married to an ogre. Not just that, but she's also an ogre. (Yes everyone knew she would sometimes be an ogre but that was when she was a child, she didn't know she would be an ogre for the rest of her life, and besides once she met the right prince she would stop being an ogre. She was supposed to stop being an ogre.)
But okay they're both ogres. We can still ask about when they'll have children because even if they're ogres they can still have kids, right? That's what married princes and princesses do so naturally that's what everyone does. Even if ogres might not be great parents (I've heard that ogres eat their young, is that something you people do?) it's still something that should be discussed.
And okay you can stay in Fiona's childhood bedroom filled with all the reminders that hey, everyone thought she was just a princess and princesses marry princes. Her toys left out from the last time she played with them. The prince slays the ogre. The princess offers a token of gratitude for slaying the ogre. Fiona wrote Mrs. Fiona Charming a million times in her diary because what else was she supposed to grow up to be?
And Harold you have to fix this, your country can't be ruled by ogres. You were unfit to rule when you were a frog but I changed you, I made you better, I made you a prince. You know how this works. Think of your daughter's safety.
Shrek goes to the Fairy Godmother and oh honey, ogres don't live happily ever after. It's just not done. It hasn't happened in all of fairy tale history. You have to change the both of you to be happy. You have to present as a prince and a princess. It will be better. You'll fit in better that way. You'll be accepted that way.

I see prompts retelling The Little Match Girl in the Shrek universe, with Death from The Last Wish taking her to Heaven.
Tumblr media
I raise you this: Death the Wolf pulling a Discworld/Hogfather clause.
Set the story in Far Far Away, were Death expresses annoyance at a Kingdom that apparently has multiple royals and noble; where seven out of ten times, the lowest class are mostly servants, who are still considerably privileged and secure than the rest; and yet this one poor girl is ignored.
Any other time of the year, it’s easy to overlook the truly poor and downtrodden. But on that night, in this particular case ? It probably gets under Death’s skin, especially considering that the Grim Reaper is often considered an angel.
Also take into account Death the Wolf is already an antithesis to this world’s Fairy Godmother, who appears only helped those if she could get something out of it; she wouldn’t consider the girl worth helping.
Death, who is also a godparent in a number of stories - the most famous example, being because Death treats the rich and poor all the same - decides maybe he’ll bend the rule for tonight, and give the Match Girl a future, and have her rescued from her “written” fate.
And if you’re up for some karmic justice ? Be it “Balancing Death’s Books” or even just plain old dark comedy (this is still the Shrek universe) ? Take a page from Robot Chicken’s book.
