They wanted me to draw a cute mother son moment with these two and I was like YEEEEEESSS!!!!! Charming is such a mommas boy. Here's fgm brushing his hair. Drawing this, I kept thinking of that one moment from Shrek 2. "OH, THANK YOU MOTHAH💅"

This was inspired more by the song itself and less by Shrek 2 but also the FGM's performance is so iconic that you know. Had to take a little inspo from that as well.

Sparkly suits might be a bit garish on most Smurfs but when you're Vanity's reflection you can pull it off

Oh my god I was watching Shrek 2 with my son the other day and something occurred to me.

We know Prince Charming is ACTUALLY a Prince, yet he was raised alone by The Fairy Godmother. Shrek as a series is KNOWN for taking great attention to detail...I can’t help but wonder if Charming’s Father is a specific King from any known Legend. Who though? Is he FGM’s biological son? Did she win him in a deal? Or did she straight up steal him as a baby??

Yo what if Prince Charming had been on time and he and Shrek reached Fiona around the same time?

Charming stormed the castle first, following an actual road up on his speedy steed and is busy fighting dragon while Shrek and Donkey sneak up to the tower

Fiona’s all “Yo where’s Prince Charming?” and Shrek rolls with it like “Eh he said to meet him outside after, letsgo”

Donkey sees Dragon being hurt or whatnot and goes to help, Charming gets yeet’d out of the castle right into Shrek and Fiona

((At that point only Fiona and Charming know the full extent of the curse)) 

Charming is all “Yo dafuq, you knave”

Shrek is like “Right back atcha” and tries to say that he is working on behalf of Charming, to bring her to the castle, he can prove it when they get there

Charming’s stuff is back in castle danger and in flames so Fiona is like “Well I guess we’ll have to see then, and we can find proper proof when we get there”

(Alternatively, she kisses Charming to test the “true love” cure, but she doesn’t know/love him, so nothing happens and she figures that he’s not her prince instead of, y’know, being like “Oh love is earned over time, it’s not instant duh)

Buddy travel movie to Faarquad’s where Charming is shown to be a wuss and Fiona+Shrek fall in love as per the usual

Except that bullshit bit with the name game happening in the mill is Fiona wanting to tell Shrek about the whole “She-Ogre” thing

Faarquad gets knocked back a few pegs by Charming and the pseudo-wedding never happens

(idk the humans go to the castle to write for proof from the King and Queen, and arrange a carriage back to Far Far Away and Shrek gets his swamp bc he technically delivered the princess)

Fiona is hurt bc Shrek lied and just wanted his land, Shrek realizes he caught feelings and is stuck

Donkey shows up with Dragon, ((better off in the relationship bc he helped her out back at the castle)) and inspires Shrek to go get the girl

Fiona is ready to magic back to Far Far Away to marry Charming, but is having doubts cause he obviously doesn’t match up with her well+is a douche, but she always wanted to marry him as a kid and it’s what her parents want

Shrek gets there just in time to spill how he feels and Fairy God Mother blows a gasket when it looks like Fiona might stay

(cue small fight scene where Shrek shows that he would take a bullet for her, and Dragon eats Faarquad and FGM)

Sunset happens

Fiona gives Shrek a kiss, and the magic happens

Collective “Oooooooh” of realization

Fiona marries Shrek and they live in the swamp, her parents approve cause Charming’s a douche and FGM has no power over them anymore and Shrek truly loves her back

Ok but ya know what I stand by this. In universe, Fairy Godmother is still pretty cool (again ignoring the implications of the mega corporation and what I imagine to be Amazon-esque work conditions amongst other things). She’s like a Futurama Mom except sexy. Other criticisms of Shrek aside, much like Fiona’s subversion of the ugly-until-true-love trope (where ugly can be replaced with sleeping, dead, a unicorn, a frog), FGM is a sexy, publicly well-loved figure who has family (child) and a business. Again, this is not saying her actions were commendable let alone aspiriational, she was a character who owned her ambition and her choices. And that’s what makes a good villain to me.

Ya know who’s cool? Shrek’s Fairy Godmother. She’s so rad. Here she is this ambitious, entrepreneurial, older and seemingly single mother who is of larger bone structure and has a clear habit for stress eating AND SHES SHOWN TO BE BOTH LOVING AND SEXY! Woman has the wherewithal raise a child and run a mega corporation all while engaging in a decades long blackmail situation to manipulate her way to the throne. Sure she’s the villain and she loses but damn we all still want to be her or be banged by her let’s be real

The Farquaad costume is going to come in boys, adult, and plus sizes

While the FGM costume is only coming in adult and plus sizes

Puss in Boots is running on the same size guide as Farquaad with all three, as well

If you’re looking for accuracy, HalloweenCostumes.com has a better pattern on Fiona’s bodice, and an overall nicer shader of green while capturing the velvet as seen in the movie.

The FGM, Farquaad, and Puss costumes will be releasing on August 26th

FARQUAAD MAKES A TRIUMPHANT RETURN, and with FLYING COLORS!!!! This is DEFINITELY a contender for the silliest thing I've ever drawn. And I'm well aware that I'm essentially jumpscaring everyone for no good reason. It's actually pretty funny. There was no build up to this moment. I wish I could say I'm sorry but I'm really not.

As a small act of mercy, I’ll give you a little bit of context. Earlier this year, I was on a BIG shrek kick. Like, deep in the shrek fandom. Obsessed with the characters. Lore. Watching the movies. (over and over.) And I had the idea to make prints of each shrek villain. So I did jack horner and fairy godmother. I started farquaad, but I never finished coloring him. Filling in the flat colors was just tedious and I didn’t feel like working on it anymore. But recently I closed commissions, and I want to work on prints again. So after working on a comm yesterday, I revived this bad boy. Once I saw it with fresh eyes, I tweaked the colors and worked on the lighting and such. And tadaa!! He’s all done and ready to be print-ified. Next is prince charming >:).

I hope I didn’t scar you too much. I’m actually pretty happy with this, even after all the months that have passed. Watching that clip of him in his bedroom brought back SO many memories of making this drawing. Piecing together the rough layout of his room, planning the perspective - there was a LOT of details involved, like the FGM one. I actually laid down on a blanket at some point and had my sister take reference pictures of me in all these stupid poses. UHHH Those are on my old phone though so I can’t share *Starts sweating nervously*.

I’m excited to add him to my store!! I’ll be sure to make another post when I have the prints all ready to go.

Also, when he mentioned FGM’s dress turning into bubbles along with her, it reminded me of how the Shrek the Third novel had Charming trying to give that same red glitter dress to Rapunzel, so like? Either multiple versions of that dress exist (which is plausible in my eyes,) or it came back into existence somehow for Charming to get it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This dress was so out of pocket from FGM, like aside from the fact yellow does NOT pair with ogre green, the leopard print on the trim? The glitter? It wouldn’t even look good on human Fiona.
