Joaquín's been getting a bit bold as of late.

He'd known the baby falcon had had a thing for Sam this whole time, of course, had watched him flirt and blush his way through every conversation back when Sam and himself were still firmly just frenemies.

It had been kind of fun to watch then, is still kind of fun to watch now, even though Bucky's less and less sure with each new flirty remark that Joaquín's not actually trying to shoot his shot.

Bucky trusts Sam. He knows they're solid. They've even talked about Joaquín's obvious crush on occasion, though it's pretty obvious to the both of them each time that the conversation's still ongoing.

Bucky's a little tipsy tonight though, halfway to drunk off that heavy Asgardian ale he really never should have touched, and he's teetering over the line of annoyance.

Joaquín's an affectionate drunk, as he and Sam are both learning tonight.

He's got an arm around Sam on the couch they're sitting on, and is leaning over on him, his head on his shoulder. Sam's got that amused look in his eyes he gets when Bucky is being particularly ridiculous or stubborn about something that doesn't actually matter, and something flares a little hot in his stomach at seeing it aimed at someone else.

Whatever Joaquín's saying is being mumbled into Sam's shoulder, so Bucky doesn't actually hear their conversation till he gets up closer.

"...look so amazing when you're flying, Sam," he says, voice filled with awe. "You always look so beautiful up there."

Bucky sees green. "He does, doesn't he?" he says sincerely, hoping Sam can't hear any trace of jealousy in his voice. He sits down on Sam's other side, pressing their legs as close together as he can, and tilts Sam's head towards him. "Every day I wonder how I got so lucky."

He leans in, then, capturing Sam's lips with his own. He makes a bit of a show of it, admittedly, parting his lips and pulling Sam's head in closer. He kisses him for just a little too long to be polite, but not too long it can't be explained away by the last drink he'd downed.

It's not quite long enough to really savor the taste of the whiskey Sam's been nursing on his own tongue, but he figures they've got all night for that later.

He pulls back slowly, relishing in the way it takes Sam just a moment too long to open his eyes after, and places his hand down on Sam's thigh, entirely too high up not to be deliberate.

When Sam turns back to Joaquín, just on the side of dazed, Bucky turns towards him too, smug and satisfied.

He finds the baby bird staring back at him already, his eyes wide and his lips parted as he looks between them both, breath a little heavier as his gaze catches on Sam's chest, on Bucky's arms, on the edge of a hickey poking out from under the collar of Bucky's shirt.

Bucky moves his hand up even higher on Sam's thigh.

They might just have to revisit that Joaquín conversation again, he thinks.

FIC REC WEEK 27 – NO POWERS

SERIES: The Foodieverse by copperbadge, scifigrl47

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 164,406 Tags: Chef AU, Food Truck, Hipsters

Summary: It's an AU where everyone works in the food industry. That makes total sense and is definitely not wildly irrational on any axis.

Reasons why I love it: This AU is chicken noodle soup for the soul. It's funny, fluffy, makes me hungry and happy, and generally is something that I consider a cornerstone of this fandom. If you haven't read it yet, do yourself a favor and get right on it, because it's amazing! There are 22 fics and podfics in this series, so while I'm not going to list all of them here, I'm going to rec some of my favorites. But really, you should read all of them front to back, because they're fantastic and deserve all the love.

Pairing: Gen Rating: T Words: 6,542 Tags: Hipster Steve, Humor, Cook-Off

Summary: Steve Rogers just wanted to sell good, nourishing, cheap food from his food truck. Now the crazy fusion chefs from TOBRU are calling him a hipster, the avant garde restaurant "Shield" across the street has declared war on chains, and...well, then there's Thor, who thinks Steve's habit of licking food is weird.

Reasons why I love it: The one that started it all. I love all of the different restaurants and the choices of who runs them, it feels very in character. Also, the dialogue is hilarious, and I really, really want to try one of Thor's crunchy crab thingies and Steve's rhubarb-pie-on-a-stick, but alas, I guess some things must remain in the realm of fantasy. Also, Steve the Hot Foodie going viral is the best thing ever. Definitely check this one out, it's great!

Hot Potato

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: G Words: 2,251 Tags: Food Trucks, Cooking Show, Potatoes

Summary: Potato Rescue is the hottest new food truck nobody knows about. Steve is determined to make Sam Wilson king of all potatoes.

Reasons why I love it: Yaaaas, bring in some Sam! I love the hints of Winterfalcon here, and Steve pretty much becoming the leader of the Sam Wilson fanclub after eating his food once is my favorite thing ever. I adore this fic, it's so much fun!

TRUCKBRU

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: G Words: 2,245 Tags: Comic-Con, partly RPF, Humor

Summary: Tony's idea of a food truck is...interesting.

Reasons why I love it: I would pay good money to see Chris Evans in that Hetalia cosplay. I love how Tony can't help but go completely overboard in everything he does, and how everyone has become a little culinary family. This fic is super funny and sweet, as is this whole series, and I really hope you check it out!

Summary: The epic road trip of food truck hipster Steve Rogers, chef Tony Stark, and self-propelled trouble magnet DJ Fujikawa.

Reasons why I love it: Alright, so, if you're a fan of scifigrl47's OCs, specifically DJ Stark, then you'll probably be like me and squeal with joy when you realize that this fic is a fucking Foodieverse and Tales of the Bots CROSSOVER, oh my god, this is the best thing ever!! I'm so goddamn happy this exists, and even if you haven't read TotB, you'll definitely still enjoy this fic, so I really hope you give it a shot!

A Taste of Home

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 24,066 Tags: Domestic Fluff, Comfort Food, Sick Tony

Summary: Tony Stark runs one of the most celebrated molecular gastronomy restaurants in the country. Steve Rogers parks his food truck on the curb outside, with food that's no less brilliant and well made, but possibly more filling. They end up at Tony's place almost every night, and while he's not objecting, Tony's starting to wonder just why that is.

Reasons why I love it: This fic is just fantastic. The food porn is food porning, the humor is superb, and the hint of angst is like a little cherry on top. I love the entire part where Tony is sick, Steve is adorable and Isaiah and Eli have my entire heart. Plus, Bucky is a menace, as usual. I love everything about this and the whole series in general, and I really hope that you go and check it out for yourself, if you haven't already!

Little Writing Snippet for Y’all because I don’t think I could make an entire oneshot about it! And it’s SamBucky/Winterfalcon themed!

Sam: So… What do you want to do today?

Bucky: I don’t know. What are you thinking?

Sam: *thinking* I think we could stay at home today. Maybe cuddle up on the couch in our PJs, drink some hot coco…

Bucky: Maybe Netflix and Chill…

Sam: *stares at Bucky shocked and confused*

Bucky: *equally confused* Did I say something wrong, Sam?

Sam: You know what “Netflix and Chill” is, right?

Bucky: Isn’t that where you watch Netflix all day?

Sam: You know what Netflix is, but not Netflix and Chill?

Bucky: *completely lost* ThErE’s A dIfFeReNcE?!?

Sam: *facepalms* Oh boy…

*Sam explains to Bucky that Netflix and Chill in fact DOES NOT mean watching Netflix all day*

Bucky: *still comprehending the information* So… Let me get this straight…Netflix and Chill means… to hook up?

I tend to do mostly one shots, I say as more than half of the fics I have up currently have more than one chapter, but I'm wanting to do something bigger. Just not sure which to start with. And yes, I have most of these planned out, as well as begun writing them. I'm just not sure what I should focus on currently. And no, these aren't the official names. (I struggle with titles)

BirdFlash Slowburn HS/College AU:

BirdFlash w/ powers and superhero stuffs, and they also go to the same highschool. Current plan is to only have Dick and Wally attend the same highschool, but we've got some other supers of their generation in the hero side. Super slow, and long. Identity shenanigans, Dick is a theatre kid, they won't confess until in or after college (but don't worry it, opens on senior year), they will be Robin and Kid Flash at the beginning but will morph into Nightwing and Flash just cause I want to play with a little bit of cannon. probably gonna be super long, and will take me a year or more to complete.

Captain Marvel Lawsuit:

Both carol and billy (in their respective universes) facing lawsuits and media backlash, because they copied off of a fictional superhero. So, we've got the Avengers helping Carol, and Jon and Damian and some Justice League helping Billy. In Carol's (the Marvel universe) DC is the main comics company. And In Billy's (the DC universe) Marvel is the main comics company. Idk, just thought it'd be funny cause it's a real lawsuit between DC and Marvel. And I don't really like them calling Billy 'Shazam', because that's his power activation thing and it just seems weird, he can't even introduce himself as a hero.

Avengers Vacay Shenanigans:

Basically a crackfic of shenanigans. Like, they're staying at a rented cabin for a week or so. And what place would have enough rooms? So roommates, I think they might almost die for the sake of breakfast, and there may be the slightest bit of angst (which will just be me projecting about my own angsty mac and cheese experience onto Clint), other than that relatively fluffy shenanigans that would ensue on one of their vacations. I'm definitely pushing both friendships and relationships in this one. Current plan includes WinterFalcon, estabed Scott/Hope, Clint/Loki, platonic Science Bros, platonic Steve + Bucky + Sam, platonic Clint + Sam (honestly, geeks), platonic Bucky + Loki (admiring their geeks), platonic Natasha + Thor (competitive besties?), ect.

HalBarry Domestic Dreams:

Similar to a Superbat idea from frownyalfred,(https://www.tumblr.com/frownyalfred/738620242981470208/fic-idea-a-world-where-clark-and-bruce-both-get?source=share), like I think that's where this idea originated from. Simply thought it months later, and had to hunt down the og for this post. ANYWAYS, Barry and Hal have been having the same dreams, a continuous plot of a domestic life between the two. But it's kinda weird to mention to your coworker that you've been having ultra realistic dreams about being in a relationship with him. right? So they both stay silent. However, they know things that they wouldn't know if it weren't for the dreams, random phrases, or actions, all that fun stuff. So, cue awkwardness. Might be a bit of a slowburn but not as much as the BirdFlash one.

BatArrow bonding over billionaires, kids, vigilantes, and the fucking media:

the media basically forces Bruce and Ollie into a relationship, after seeing them having lunch together once and that was a business meeting. They end up fake dating, for the media, then they start to see the benefit of having another single father billionaire around. So they bond over that, and start to become official. Eventually they have the inevitable superhero secret identity reveal, and turns out their dating the coworker that they only tolerate. But they learned to love each other in the hero side too. They just deserve some love. Where else to get it from other than your childhood friend/repeated hookup/coworker?

WinterFalcon Week 2021

The prompt results for WinterFalcon Week have finally been tallied, and it's time to kick off this fanweek celebrating our favourite MCU duo! But first, a quick reminder on the rules and guidelines of this challenge.

WinterFalcon Week will run from the 19th-25th of August 2021, a.k.a. exactly five months after the airing of the first episode of TFATWS. Creation time starts as soon as you've got your prompts - which is to say, as soon as you finish reading this post. We'd like this to be a fun, relaxed challenge for everyone, so there is plenty of time to create an epic creation.

Furthermore, we will not be enforcing deadlines very strictly at all - so if you do happen to miss a day or two, absolutely no stress. We will keep reblogging Winterfalcon content right through to the end of the year! Meanwhile, you are free to complete as few or as many of the prompts as you want, and you can submit as many or as few creations per day as the muse inspires.

Any and all types of creative fanwork - fic, art, gifsets, photo edits, video edits, and more - are welcomed in this fanweek! The only criterion is that it must be centred around the MCU pairing of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes.

Sam: “And how’s my hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream?”

Bucky: *grumbling and holding an ice pack to his face*

Sam: *booping Bucky’s nose* “with a dollop of whipped cream on top”

Bucky: *removes ice pack to reveal his eye is purple and swollen shut*

Sam: *grimacing* “Oh, baby…” *pulling Bucky into his arms* “my blueberry crumble”

Bucky: *smiling despite himself* “Don’t make me laugh with your stupid pet names, my whole face hurts”

As most things with Bucky weirdly tend to do these days, it starts at the farmer’s market.

Bucky has fully embraced his role as a mostly retired house boyfriend, cozying up to all the old ladies in Delacroix, fixing up their porches or their cars or their kitchen sinks while they carry on about the old days, or, more often, while they flirt with him until he’s finished whatever handyman job they’ve cooked up for him. He spends his days carrying home other people’s groceries, getting cats out of trees, and helping Sarah out with the boat or with picking up Cass and AJ from school, baseball, and science bowl.

Sam just watches Bucky flourish under his new main role of friendly neighborhood super soldier, smiling all the while. He’s also not exactly complaining about all of the fresh fruits, veggies, and herbs Bucky brings home as thank yous from said old ladies in Delacroix, his little bunch of whatever he helps harvest from their gardens. They send him home with preserves, jams, pies, and brownies, and Sam is absolutely not going to turn down any of the literal fruits of Bucky’s labor whenever they’re offered, especially when Bucky looks so happy when he opens the fridge to see those seven pies, six jars of jam, and twelve other jars of preserves.

Sam does his best to keep Bucky off of missions, even when the higher ups push for him to come, and only takes him along when Sharon or Rhodey insist, usually fine to just work with Joaquin and whatever strike team might get dug up. Bucky hasn’t quite gotten the hang of cooking himself yet, but Sam usually comes home to a hot meal, a hot and ready casserole given in thanks for a handyman job well done or take out from their favorite crawdad place down by the docks. Sam tells Bucky about all the Captain America-ing he’s been up to, and Bucky details whatever old story Ms. Jackie from down the street had to tell him today.

"bucky baby, can you help me with this?" sam called from the bathroom, a pair of trimming scissors in his hand. "can't get the damn angle right..." he grumbled, attempting and failing, yet again, to cut a few stray hairs close to his sideburns.

"mmm...i think you should just let it grow out," bucky murmured, slipping in behind sam and looping his arms around his waist before resting his chin on his shoulder. "you'd look good with a full beard."

"now you know that's not happening, so don't even try it."

"but—"

"james buchanan barnes." sam held up his scissors and met bucky's eyes in the mirror. "either you help, or you leave. it's already ten minutes to five and you know—"

"do you know," bucky said, carefully removing the scissors from sam's hand and placing them on the counter, "how much it turns me on when you say my name like that?"

sam rolled his eyes, allowing bucky's hands to wander and creep up under his shirt.

"i know what you're trying to do and it won't work."

"what am i trying to do?" bucky asked, nuzzling sam's neck. "and are you sure it isn't working?"

"buck, get your ass downstairs and start the car."

“but—”

“we got back from new york three days ago and have barely left this bedroom because you,” sam shifted around in bucky’s arms to face him and held his chin between his fingers, “are too damn cute, and very good at distracting me.”

bucky smirked and leaned in for a kiss, but sam stopped him.

"not today, though.” sam patted bucky's butt then turned back to the mirror to resume his trimming. “now go take the car and pick up that cake. there’s a bunch of folks waiting for us at the docks.”

I know there were some people complaining about it, but I honestly really appreciate the fact that we’re not getting all the episodes of tfatws at once on Disney+ and we have to wait the old-fashioned way to see what’s next. For me it’s a much more enjoyable experience than just sitting and watching the whole thing at once... even if that method has its own advantages at times.

I think that these week-long breaks between episodes are giving us more time to actually process and discuss what’s happening. Build up the emotions a little. Get excited. Or get frustrated when it’s necessary. E.g. Bucky’s apology felt much more impactful, because we had to wait for it and some of us were even worried it’ll never come.

Same thing with waiting for Sam Wilson to finally take the shield and show up in the new suit. We know it’s going to happen, but there was a moment he suggested that destroying the shield would be better and suddenly we had to process that possibility for a while.

If we got the entire tfatws series at once we would probably gloss over some of the great, but less important scenes, because they would be buried under the most flashy and dramatic moments from the finale. If we all watched episode 5 the same day as episode 2 we would probably not all go crazy about the Flower Field Scene™, because it wouldn’t seem as striking after seeing Sambucky fixing the boat. But we did go crazy and I really enjoyed seeing every viewer screaming about it for a week “straigh” between actually debating more serious topics from that part of the story.

Not to mention that when you, as a creator, release all the episodes at once you can allow yourself to make some weaker ones and kind of... avoid stronger criticizm, since the less enjoyable parts often remain forgotten. But if you have to release one episode every week you have to try harder to make it good on its own. And I don’t mean that tfatws doesn’t have its weaker moments... I just mean that when we see something to criticize there is a whole week to discuss and analyze it. Just like with the parts that are actually good.

It just seems like a way better way of watching the series if you’re invested in it. If tfatws was made available all at once on March 19th we would already stop talking about it so much after two or three weeks.
