...sure. But since there is no...singular PR Wing AU that comes to mind, I'm just going through my biases and hoping they look nice in context.

For the sake of context, I am going to riff off a list of wings I THINK would suit the above babies:

Jason Scott: I am very torn on whether it is better to give him goose or swan wings, but the goose wings won out because there is some marginal dignity in geese when it comes to large groups and caretaking.

Trini: Vulture wings, because she is fucking tiny and I thought it was funny.

Zack Taylor: Sand Piper, because they are more leggy than wing oriented, which fits with his being able to dance, dance, dance all night long.

Matt Cook: The Common Swift, which might look to anyone else as drab and unappreciable, but to me are actually perfectly suited to him.

Kimberly Hart: Pixie, pixie, pixie wings. Like Tinkerbell, like sprites, like those fast fuckers 8% of the world says they've seen out of the corner of their eyes. SWISH.

Tommy Oliver: Tiny fluffy bat~ Tiny fluffy white bat~ Tiny fluffy white POLLINATOR bat~ Just imagine him covered in clouds of white and orange debris because he couldn't help himself.

Bulk: ~Honeybee, honeybee, won't you love a Bumblebee~ They shouldn't be able to fly, and yet they do. And if that isn't a perfect metaphor...

Billy Cranston: A Pied Crow, because they are loud and protective and they wear little white vests everywhere and look CUTE while they steal things.

Skull: Butterfly dragon wings. Which is like...a microdragon with leaf camouflage? I just keep thinking of that Strange Magic movie and how pretty the Bog King would look with a little color.

Wingfic/Soulmate AU’s but it’s about butterflies.

Unlike wings with feathers (example being bird wings), Butterflies can’t heal from torn or damaged wings. It’s not because of lack of blood flow, because butterflies do have veins in their wings (although, unlike humans, their blood doesn’t primarily carry oxygen, so maybe that’s it?).

Whereas birds can fly with broken wings, will regrow clipped feathers, can heal correctly when treated with a splint or surgery, Butterflies don’t have that option. They can’t shed their wings like a bird would shed or pluck damaged feathers so new ones grow in, either.

Once their wing is damaged, it stays like that. I read somewhere that butterflies can fly with up to 70% of their wings missing, but I don’t know how accurate that is.

A butterfly’s wings are made of chitin, several thin membranous layers of it. It’s the same thing that makes up their exoskeleton - consider Chitin for them, what Keratin is to humans (fingernails, hair). The veins that run through them are there for structural support.

Their wings are covered in tiny hairs, which we call scales - if you’ve ever touch a butterfly’s wings, and you shouldn’t, that powdery glitter that comes off on your hands are their scales.

Similarly to the wing itself, these scales don’t grow back. Which is very bad.

Scales on a butterflies wings are what give them their special patterns - sensitive to light, they help the butterfly absorb heat and insulate their bodies (heat is a factor in when a butterfly can fly, they need to have a body temperature of at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit). If a butterfly is caught in a spider web, they can rub off some scales to escape.

Now put this into a wing/soulmate au.

In a normal wing au, wing types (bird or insect, etc) is probably passed down through family lines - but in a soulmate au, maybe only characteristics - certain colors, or patterns - are shared? And it becomes a gradient, or slowly changes (new patterns/feathers) once you meet your soulmate or kiss them or press your wings together?

Example - A comes from a family who primarily has wings which are avian-based. B has butterfly wings (maybe is the older one?). A is born with butterfly wings, but it has a feather-patterns like a bird’s wings, befitting the family line.

Line of thought is a work-in-progress.

I’m not sure if humans with butterfly wings could actually fly with them, I don’t have a good grasp on human or bird anatomy enough to even hazard a guess, but - considering the size of a normal butterfly’s wings to their body, they’d be huge.

As in, about the size of their own body, huge. Maybe a little taller than their head, while the hindwings end at their calves? At least for adults.

Butterfly and others with insect wings are probably very cautious - and probably prized? Maybe they’re rare, compared to bird-style wings. Protected because, unlike others, their wings won’t heal? Or, if they can heal - at least a little, because they aren’t actually butterflies - after an injury the wing is especially fragile and more difficult to fly with. Ragged splotches that lack any scales or patterns. And the worse or more often you injure it afterwards, the less it manages to recover from each injury.

(Imagine if the color fades once a soulmate dies - not completely blank, but definitely washed out. Aged, in a way?).

The scales would probably be a bit more durable, not as easy to wipe off (imagine trying to sleep!).

It might be difficult for them to fly in the rain. Though butterfly wings are pretty hydrophobic, the rain can weigh them down - and again, they rely on body heat to fly. If they get too cold, they can’t - obviously, for humans with butterfly wings, it’d work a little differently, but the concern is still there.

It would probably still make it difficult to fly, if impossible to do at all, but what if their wings were durable and flexible enough to wrap around their bodies in the rain - like raincoats?

Soulmate and Wing Au Prompt

Everyone has a Soulmate Mark, when you are born it is in a bright color outline, just the simple shape.

Then, when you meet your Soulmate it becomes colored in, becoming a beautiful picture of something that shows you and your soulmates love for each other.

Jason Todd is born with folded wings across his back in acidic green, and when he becomes Robin he knows the wings symbolize that part of him, showing that he had always been meant to fly.

Then when Jason is fifteen, his back goes ice cold in the middle of the day, like someone dumped a bucket of water across him. His outline is no longer vibrant green of life and energy, but the soulless black of a dead soulmate.

It doesn’t take to long for him to go off the deep end and start taking risks as Robin, and even as Bruce yells at him for hurting someone to much and one guy getting in accident, Well when Jason learns about his mother, his true mother.

Well Jason Todd welcomes that blinking countdown inside the warehouse Joker has left him in.

Then he wakes up and all he can see and feel is green rage and pain.

It takes him a long time to notice the changes to his soulmate mark, but when he does it makes his pain all the more real.

Where had once been an outline when he died, was now dull color across his skin, not quite black and white, but washed out color.

Black wings, with red-orange shoulders, the wings of Red shouldered Blackbird.

Jason tries to ignore it, but the knowledge that he had met his Soulmate in Heaven or Hell, despite not being able to remember it, soothes his broken heart just a little bit.

Meanwhile, Danny Phantom searches desperately for his missing Soulmate, across his back large white and green wings beating desperately.

This started because I wanted to Draw Dead On Main with wings, and then, it kind of drew me in to creating a tiny story for it, so here you go, anyone want to write a fic for me??

What if Viktor's feathers were all ruffled and itchy when he first met Jayce, because there was no one in Piltover he could trust to preen them, and his back issues made it hard to take care of it himself?

And what if, within days of stabilizing Hextech together, Jayce offered to assist with it like the eager and kindhearted puppy he is?

But also a child Arun who uses them as a makeshift blanket on the boat and in the brothel.

Especially in an AU where everyone doesn’t have them, they become this striking figure that’s both one of the reasons he’s so desirable, and also just furthers peoples comparisons of him being an Angel, of being something inhuman.

We already have Renaissance painting Amadeo, can I go one step further and say angel statue Amadeo? (Not just immortalized in religious art but straight up made the icon of it, especially as they often are placed in churches. (In a book verse, what a thing for someone who once created the icons, for a show, what a thing for someone who probably never followed that faith).

They are further damaged by Santino who sees them as this affront to what they stand for. They are damned creatures who serve Satan, and here is Armand with a very obvious ‘gift from God’.

Armand letting them get as grimy as the rest of him during his centuries with the Children of Darkness, until he’s unable to fly. Lestat being the person to painstakingly smooth back out the bent feathers, to clean the dirt; a muddy brown returned to its bronze shine. It’s there that the careful preening begins.

Armand with both the cloud gift and wings is basically the universe telling him to fly and be free, and simultaneously the things people love about him and want to keep hold of in order to possess. Because of others and his self-imposed isolation, he keeps locking himself back up in cages. The wings atrophy, and it’s not that he can’t build it back up but he doesn’t really know where to start after so long.
