Can we talk about the fact Renegade Nell had a scene where a formerly enslaved character (pretty sure he was freed) confronts one of his former oppressors about his treatment? Rasselas point blank saying "I was treated as a toy" to Sophia was quite powerful and a great bit of character work.

It really showed how Rasselas was pulling away from the people who has mistreated him and how entrenched in the system Sophia is.

Over the years, one of Barbie's most common career paths was working for different airlines, as either a flight attendant or a pilot. Many of these were for either nonspecified or for Barbie-branded airlines. For example, that is true of Flight Time Barbie, the first time Barbie was herself a pilot.

However over the years Barbie has been affilitated with many real airlines.

For example, the first time Barbie worked as a flight attendant was as an American Airlines stewardess.

Subsequently, Barbie has also worked for Virgin Atlantic.

As well as JAL!

Now... technically speaking there was not an official Barbie released where she worked for the Australian airline Qantas. However, there is a large collection at a major Australian museum of Barbies and Kens throughout the years in replicas of different Qantas outfits. These were hand-made by former Qantas employee John Wilmott-Potts.

And this is extremely, extremely cool, frankly.

I don't want to be a wet blanket, I love Halloween in pretty much all its ways of being... but when the decorative merch, t-shirts, etc, come out each year with the "witch this," "salem that" all emblazoned with "est 1692"...

Well, it always sort of leaves a bad taste in my mouth... because in the village in that year something really horrible happened.

Whether because of politics, land grabs, ageism/sexism, personal vendettas, economic competition, or ergot poisoned rye grain causing hallucinations and faulty thinking, it was all wrapped up in religious zeal and innocents were murdered.

So, every year at our Samhain program, I say their names and light a candle.

Ellen Willmott

Ellen Willmott was born in 1858 in Heston, Middlesex. In her garden at Warley Place, Willmott grew more than 100,000 species of shrubs, trees, and plants. In 1897, Wilmott received the Victoria Medal of Honour from the Royal Horticultural Society, one of only two women to receive the award that year. There are several species of plants named after Wilmott.

Ellen Willmott died in 1934 at the age of 76.

USS Albacore (SS-218), a 311-foot, Gato-class submarine lost 7 November 1944 of the coast of Hokkaido Japan, she was presumed lost on 21 December 1944 and struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 30 March 1945, found 16 February 2023.

The USS Albacore earned 9 battle stars, received 4 Presidential Unit Citations and was responsible for sinking at least 10 ships.
