rating wild horse's valley!
Tumblr media
wild horse's valley is a browser game where you're the lead stallion of a herd! you lead your horses through a beautiful world and react to the random events that occur!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's weather conditions! there's little animals you can trade acorns with! there's little items that appear in the scenery that you can click on! when i was playing around easter season there were so many easter eggs full of goodies, and when i played around april fool's day there were minifridges laying around stocked with treats!
Tumblr media
once an hour, you can send your mares out to forage for food, and once an in-game day, you can have a practice fight with each of your stallions to raise your battle stats! you can then go into defense mode and try to fight off other player's lead stallions for rewards, but with the risk of a herd member being stolen! if there's another player in defense mode, you can try to battle them to get a new herd member! there's even a way to form alliances with other leadstallions to fight foes together! the game currently has over 155 coat colors to collect, and you can see your progress in the collections tab! there's pony and item exchange pages! there's forums! there's rankings with prizes! there's even quests and storylines to progress through!
Tumblr media
it looks like there is horse breeding but i don't have it unlocked yet!
wild horse's valley is made and run by only two people!! and one of them did all of the art??? that's mindblowing to me!! there's so much art in this game, and it's all gorgeous!!!
Tumblr media
here's their page of what the game offers! it really is ad-free and not pay to win, although you can pay for the luxury of not clicking through every single one of your herdmembers to send them foraging and things like that. on the rankings page it says there are some active players with over 300 horses in their herds, so i think that's fair!
Tumblr media
it's a really sweet game! my one complaint is that there aren't enough active players for some of the multiplayer functions to work. i've never seen an alliance open or a herd in defense mode other than me, so i can't take part in those fights. that will probably fix itself in time, though! the art in this game is really really lovely and makes me so happy, and no matter how many months i forget about the game, my herd is still there when i log back in. they also added rainbow horses for the month of june!
i'm rating wild horse's valley 4.5 stars out of 5!
★★★★✬
thank you anonymous user who suggested this game! if you have a second, maybe check it out? it works on mobile in browser! here's the link!

There was a whv contest on discord and instagram to win a leadstallion of your choice. To participate, you had to draw that leadstallion and post it on discord and/or instagram (you could post on both). Here's my entry:

Not my best work, I wish I had started sooner than on the last day, but hey, I won :D

While I don't know if this game is "a good replacement for howrse", but to me, it has a similar feel. It's also a clicking game (you just click on buttons)
Wild Horses Valley
In this game, you have your lead stallion (which you can customise) with energy and health bar. Using said energy you can either walk, trot or gallop. Each time you move you get into some situation - whether it's a reward (you found apples or herbs), bad news (you lost a horse because of tornado or earthquake etc) or a decision between safe or risky. You can also find new horses to join your herd. I think there isn't a limit of how many horses there can be in your herd, but watch out! More horses can unlock specific situations, but there's a higher risk of losing your horses. Also, the background changes every time you move.
You can get both mares and stallions. Every day, you can send your mares to gather food and herbs, and you can do a training battle with your stallions to get skill points. You can have foals in this game. It's a long wait for them, and you have to go there every day (or you can skip it with tokens). The foals all look the same until you age them up, but you can play with them every hour to get some XP.
There are over 155 coat colours and many different horses, all based on different breeds. There are some special coat colours as well. You can collect the coat colours and get reward for completing the whole colour collection book (then reset it and start again).
You can also have herd companions (after befriending them you can get rewards from them), there are short storylines, you can collect items, complete short quests with animals, you can exchange coat colours with other players. You can enter a player giveaway and hope to get one of the three prizes! There is a grooming minigame with your herd members. Sometimes you can find the harvesting minigame after moving to a new place or if you're lucky, you can find the discovery game!
Tokens are the only currency in the game. You can buy them, but they're not that hard to get. You can buy a new lead stallion look, new herd companions, or unlock premium functions.
While you can't have friends or join groups in this game, you can communicate with other players on forums or on the game's Discord server.
The whole game is managed by two people: Starlight (who makes all the drawings, creates game ideas, and manages all the social media, including the Discord server) and her father, who is a programmer and basically made the code for the whole game.
It's really a chill game. While on howrse you're competing with others, here you are for yourself, and you can go at your own pace.
Here is a link to the website if you're interested. Everything is explained on the first (main) page, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
actually speaking of pet sim games. does anyone have a good replacement for howrse?? I used to play it all the time but the events feel very pay to win nowadays and I haven't yet found an alternative that's similar

All Legs 38W9508
flickr
All Legs 38W9508 by Daniel D'Auria Via Flickr: One doesn’t have to look hard to see the love between a dam and her foal. This colt is likely no more than a day or so old. He is still a bit wobbly but horses stand within minutes of birth. They have to in order to nurse, and they must nurse in order to survive. They usually begin trying to run within a day and this little guy is no exception. You can see from his stature, he is all legs. The legs of horses at birth are proportionately large compared to adults. The reasons for this are clear. #WildHorses

Weird Horsegirl Ganondorf fun fact of today is that in Ocarina of Time Ganondorf rides without a bridle! Even in the concept art his horse lacks any bit or reigns (as does Epona, and every other horse).
What it mainly means is that the N64 didn't have the power to mess with an unnecessary complex item to render -- but what it could be interpreted to mean for the sake of fandom fun is that the horses are raised and trained to be ridden bridleless.
Not to be up my own headcanons about horses being a big thing in Gerudo Valley and Malon's mom being Gerudo and there being a reason that Gan's horse is specified as a pure black Gerudo Stallion because other Gerudo horses don't look like that but -- have you seen the dressings on the other horses?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of them, even Zelda's horse, have a call to Gerudo patterning. Except for Epona, who was only able to be approached, touched, and ridden by Link and presumably Malon herself.
It's no secret that the Gerudo are more or less pulled from African and Arabic cultures, but fun fact about Arabian horses, they used to be given as prized gifts to royalty and important political figures.
So if they are inspired by Arabian horse history --
Although the specific area of the Arabian Peninsula where the breed originated can’t be pinpointed, it is widely accepted that around 2500 B.C., the Bedouin people were responsible for developing the desert horses that became the ancestors of the Arabian horse. The nomads’ keen horse sense and meticulous attention to proper care and breeding created an animal that could withstand the harsh environment of the desert, surviving extreme heat and cold with little water and the food they shared with their handlers. A life of travel also required horses with great lung capacity, endurance and stamina. (x)
It's very possible that all of the horses in OoT have ancestry in Gerudo Valley!

Hey! Do you know of any other blogs that post about wild horses valley? Just got into it and keen to find a community:)
Hi!
Unfortunately no. Tbf, you're the first one to interact/ask about WHV.
But if you have an account on discord, you can join their official discord server! It's not too big, so it doesn't feel that overwhelming like some. The most talked in chat channels are: game chat, off topic chat, color exchange (where you can ask if someone has/needs any horse coat) and giveaways (just make sure to put your herdname into your server username, so if you win, Starlight can give you the prize). Bonus is that you can talk to Starlight (one of the creators and the artist), suggest new things, report bugs and get them resolved asap. There's some other channels of course.
If you would like to join and couldn't find the link, I can send you an invite! Lmk about that. And if you're already there, well, sorry for the long post. 😅
