there are many moments where elphaba will work ahead, finishing her papers before glinda does. it’s become their routine! elphaba will often share her answers or insights on certain questions

.. but there are occasional times elphaba is feeling more stubborn than others. she ignores glinda’s persistent hints of taking even a small peek at her paper. this leads to glinda’s usual tantrums, but this time she threatens to hold her breath until she gets her way. rookie mistake is elphaba believing she won’t actually go through with it. no, she will.

elphaba: “you are literally turning red!”

glinda: *frantically gesturing to her face, puffing her cheeks and jumping up and down*

The Shiz Gang's first Lurliemas at Shiz University be like ( some HCs ) :

. Look, it was a couple months after the Ozdust Party in the Harvest Festival of Oz ( ie kinda like a mix of Halloween and Thanksgiving in Oz ). So it was Elphaba's first Lurliemas in Shiz University

. Elphaba woke up one morning to snow falling outside of her dorm room, and with Galinda twirling around a beautiful silver mink coat around her

. Galinda : Oh, Elphie! Lurliemas is here! Our first Lurliemas together! * flops beside a still groggily waking up Elphaba * Aren't you excited?

Elphaba : Galinda, it's nearly 7am.....* yawns *

Galinda : We gotta get up now! The dining halls are serving a delicious Lurliemas breakfast! They got Corn grits and fresh hot coffee waiting! Let's go! * tries to pull up Elphaba *

Elphaba : * yawns * Okay, okay, I'm up....Just give me a minute....

. And then Elphaba and her friends started to enjoy a Lurliemas breakfast together

. The Lurliemas break starts at early December that year. And there's a sign up for students to stay over the Lurliemas holidays

. Elphaba is amongst the first to sign up. She is not spending another Lurliemas with her shit dad hiding her from the Munchkinland dignitaries while he plays ' host with the most ' at his yearly Lurliemas Dinner parties. Again.

. Nessarose follows along. As much as she enjoyed the past Lurliemas with her dad, she deep down resents her father for excluding Elphaba from the festivities. Every Lurliemas before that Nessarose would often sneak round the back to join Dulcie Bear and Elphaba's little Lurliemas tea party and offer Elphaba some cake, especially the Munchkinland Lurliemas Cake ( it's kinda like a Sticky Toffee pudding with wold berries )

. So ofc Nessarose isn't going to leave her sister behind that Lurliemas

. Fiyero is already hot to go with the Lurliemas decorations. He grew up spending Lurliemas with his parents at the Vinkus Castle ( the Vinkus Country has hardly ever snow - its mostly desert and grasslands. Very Wild West vibes ). So Fiyero is eager to partake in Gilikinese winter festivities.

. Boq is just happy to be here

. The Shiz University students come from the 4 corners of Oz, so they all exchange Lurliemas customs of their home Realms.

. The Quadling students all began giving out little pomegranate seeds as a token of Lurliemas gifts to their friends

. The Gilikinese students THRIVE in the Gilikinese cold, all showing up with fur

. The Vinkus students all prefer to stay indoors by the fire - they hand out Vinkus spice related souvenirs to their friends

. The Munchkin students all enjoy the Lurliemas sweets in the campus

. It was during that time where Galinda began to practice more of the snow magic training she got from Madame Morrible then, with her training wand. At first she was clumsy with her magic, but she's getting there

. Elphaba and her friends having Hot cocoa nights, snow ball fights, and playing Secret Santa

. It was the first Lurliemas that Elphaba truly enjoyed

. Galinda rocking her collection of fur coats and gloves, as she does in every winter in Oz

. There's also a Shiz University Lurliemas Gala where all the students and staff show up. It's basically a fancy University campus masquerade party

. The party has a grand Lurliemas buffet filled with cuisines from the 4 corners of Oz, live music band, and masquerade ball

. Elphaba went with her friends that evening, wearing a simple yet elegant black dress with long sleeves, fluted collar, and a layered tulle dress, with her hair up in a curly bun. That dress once belonged to her mother, and Galinda helped with the hair

. Nessarose looks beautiful in a periwinkle blue ballgown with ruffled sleeves

. Boq shows up in a silver and blue suit

. Fiyero shows up in a black and gold Vinkus Princely attire with gold cape, and riding boots

. Galinda amazed the crowd with a gorgeous silvery white dress decorated with pearls, white gloves, a tiara atop of her blonde ponytail, and silver shoes

. They all look great. And everybody had a blast

. Galinda loves Lurliemas - she grew up with all those fancy Lurliemas Galas in Pertha Hills ( where her hometown Frottica is ) with her parents, and gazing in amazement at her mother's beautiful ballgowns.

. None of the students are prepared for the chaos that is about to happen after that Lurliemas

Jason Todd's ACTUAL Music Taste

(Someone has probably already done this but I am in desperate need of a reference sheet tailored to me specifically.)

Poison Idea Jason is introduced in Batman #408 (released 1987) wearing a red shirt with POISON IDEA written on the front. Poison Idea is a punk rock + hardcore punk band from Portland, Oregon. We also see a poster of the same band hanging in his apartment, so I think this is a favorite of his.

- The Modernettes We see another poster with REBEL KIND written beneath the silhouette of four people. In the first image shown above, we can also see "rebel kind" spraypainted by Jason's apartment door. The closest match I could find for this is a song called "The Rebel Kind" by punk band The Modernettes.

This band sounds more pop punk to me (although I'm not the best at differentiating between musical subgenres), and Jason only shows interest in one of their songs. That, paired with the sound we hear from Poison Idea, makes me think Jason isn't as into pop punk as he is hardcore. This might be one of those songs where the message in the lyrics really resonates. "I know one day we're going to leave this far behind, and we'll be free to run with the rebel kind," as just one example. I think he identifies with the term "rebel kind," especially if he's the one who painted that on the wall. (I'm assuming he did.)

- Eric Peters I have no fucking idea who this is, but he's hanging on Jason's wall. He's got a hat and a guitar and a fuckass goatee (pictured in the second image, next to the Poison Idea poster). I can find one guy who only started releasing music in the 90s and another guy affiliated with DC Comics who doesn't look old enough to be referenced this way.

The hat and the guitar + straight hair combo reminds me a little of Slash + Izzy from Guns n' Roses. They released their first album like a month after Batman #408 was released, but if one of the authors saw their US tour in 1985, it could still make sense. Or they just based it off the 80s rock star aesthetic in general. Point is, I don't know. So. Eric Peters can be whatever fanon wants, I suppose. - Blister Twister (DC's KISS) + Simon & Garfunkel We see a heavy metal band, Blister Twister, perform a heavy metal cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" in Batman #412. Jason thinks it's cool.

- (UPDATE) Slipknot & Lacuna Coil Jason has posters of what looks like 1999 Slipknot (heavy metal) and Shallow Life by Lacuna Coil (goth/alternative metal) hung up in his room in Nightwing Annual 2021, which is part of the Rebirth relaunch.

- Some concluding thoughts! (Edited to suit Jason's Rebirth music taste.) Based on what little we get, I think, as a kid, Jason leans more towards harsher music and has a preference for hardcore punk. Punk rock and garage punk are up there as well. He likes music that sounds raw and real. He'll jam to softer punk subgenres, like pop punk and post-punk, but that's more so when he really feels for the lyrics/messaging. Maybe he starts getting into the latter more as he grows up, but hardcore is still his favorite.

Metal music doesn't show up until after the Blister Twister performance, so maybe that's his introduction to the genre? It starts off as more of a superficial appreciation ("Cool!"), but then he gravitates from hardcore to nu metal (which is inspired by hardcore). A lot of people would consider Slipknot a nu metal band, and their 1999 album sounds like a mix of a few different subgenres, so maybe Jason is introduced to more of those subgenres through them. And then Lacuna Coil. I'm not familiar with them, but reddit says it's goth metal. I listened to some of their songs from Shallow Life, and I can absolutely see angsty teenager Jason resonating with those lyrics.

tl;dr I think Jason prefers the harsher subgenres of punk and metal, but still enjoys a variety of subgenres in both. Punk was his childhood; metal was his teenhood; and I'm assuming he still likes both in young adulthood. He likes the more raw, more real-sounding stuff and songs with messages that he resonates with.

Moving even more into headcanon territory: street rap, East Coast rap, lots of underground artists, that's all music Jason likes and listens to. I honestly don't think Jason would feel much of anything for mainstream pop music since it doesn't sound very raw or real and a lot of it isn't very relatable to him, but I do still think he'd jam to it occasionally for the laughs (and there might be the one-off song that does say something that resonates).

And if we're taking Jason's love for classic literature into account, then yes, I will subscribe to the headcanon that he enjoys musicals. I don't think he'd be a fanatic, but he appreciates the story and he might jam to songs that resonate with him like "The Rebel Kind" does. (I still think that's his favorite song, as a young adult.)

If anyone who sees this can find more canon hints of Jason's music taste, please, please show me! I love these little Easter eggs.

no cause I can’t stress enough how fascinating it is that glinda is the least privileged person of the main trio. like yes she comes off as a rich kid, but it’s sorta implied that most of the students at shiz are rich bc it’s like “that” school.

glinda is more new money compared to elphie and fiyero being a little more old money imo. glinda has an actual reason to want to climb the social ladder. glinda has a reason to feel insecure or feel like she needs to establish herself amongst her peers.

like even without the headcanon that glinda rose to upper class later in life, she’s still canonically of a lower status than a prince and a governors daughter.

(but also: has anyone considered how actually impressive it is how easily glinda wins over the school?? like are there just that many kids who knew her? did she make that good a first impression? it was her first day!

anyway, was writing time travel fic and having lotsa Thoughts about glinda just immediately being popular. girlie really said “it’s the way ur viewed” and then made it fucking happen. damn)

simon riley and wicked are the only two things in my head for the past week..

simon would do anything for you. he’d go out and buy your favorite snack when you’re on your period, he’d take you and all your girlfriends out to the bar so you could have fun, and he would kill anyone that got too close to you. wouldn’t admit that tho, wouldn’t want scare to scare his pretty little thing

so when you ask him if he’ll go see wicked with you, it’s an immediate yes.

he buys the tickets for that saturday night, and lets you plan his outfit. of course simon would be wearing green, you in pink. you walk hand and hand into the theatre, his green military issued shirt hanging over the sweatpants you practically forced him into.

simon could care less how it looked to see a type of man like him in a theatre for a movie like this. it all was worth it when he saw your face light up everytime glinda was on screen or your favorite song came on.

by the end of the movie, simon ghost riley could not wipe the smile off his face. he had to admit, it was pretty good. this got you to laugh, knowing you’d buy it as soon as it came out on streaming.

‘glad you enjoyed it, lovie’ he’d say when you giddily explain all your theories for part two. simon thought it was adorable when you yapped about things you liked, seeing you happy was all he wanted.

over the next week, you’d started playing the soundtrack anytime you would play music. you tended to have an obsessive personality, simon loved that about his sweet, little bird.

he would never complain, he secretly loved hearing you sing all the songs. your voice being the only melody he wanted to hear.

one tuesday night, after an especially hard day at work, your man surprised you with a cozy movie night. complete with your favorite take out, ice cream, and of course.. wicked.

‘all your favorite things are here, princess. needed to cheer my baby up.’

you two lay there, wrapped up in each other, his head in your lap while you play with his hair. your fingers trace over his face as you whisper about how much you love him.

his favorite songs are the wizard and i, im not that girl, and what is this feeling? i know this bc he told me
