Rolan

A Childhood Stolen by War 💔

When I think of my little ، daughter Rolan, the first thing that comes to mind is her innocent laughter that used to fill our home with joy.

Rolan, who is just five years old, was once a lively, energetic child, full of innocence and unaware of anything but playing with her toys 🧸🎈.

Since the war began, everything has changed.

We have been forced to flee several times, each time hoping that it would be our last stop 😔🏚️.

Rolan would watch us silently as we packed our few belongings, her eyes reflecting fear and confusion about what was happening around her 😔.

In the last place we went to, Rolan began to suffer from a problem with her skin, which began to become constantly sensitive due to pollution, insect bites, and germs spread everywhere.

Rolan cried from the pain, and we couldn't afford to get her the necessary treatment😢

Access to doctors or medicine became almost impossible due to the ongoing conflict 🚫🩺, and we now live in a place lacking the most basic necessities.

Rolan would ask us innocently, "Why can't I play like I used to? Why does my skin hurt?" 🥺, and all we could do was reassure her that everything would be okay, even though deep inside, we felt completely helpless.

Our constant displacement has also affected her nutrition 🍽️.

Despite all this pain, Rolan remains a child 🌸.

Even in the hardest moments, she tries to smile 😊, searching for small moments of joy in anything she can find around her.

Her story is the story of thousands of children who have suffered because of the war 🕊️.

Her life has been suspended between pain, fear, and deprivation.

All we want is to give her back a piece of the life she deserves 🎨.

We are doing everything we can to provide Rolan with the treatment she needs and to restore the sense of safety she has lost, but we cannot do it alone 🤲.

We need your support, not only to secure medicine and treatment but to give Rolan the chance to live her childhood as she should 🌸.

I was rambling on the issue of museums and human remains and how certain populations are more likely to have their bodies put on display to be gawked at and then went "well I guess the Pompeii casts were of Europeans. there are bones in there right?" and Googled it to make sure, at which point I confirmed that yes there are bones in there, but more interestingly DNA testing revealed that a cast of an adult holding a child everyone assumed was a mother and child were, in fact, a man and a kid entirely unrelated to him. Honestly that's more moving to me. Maybe they were connected in a way other than blood, but maybe a stranger saw a child when the world was ending and thought the one thing he could do was hold them.

Straight and cis people will say that they are allies, but you will NEVER measure up to my dentist.

Me: "Hey, is it ok if I can change my name on my info from [DEADNAME] to Aspen?"

Random woman that I wasn't even talking to in the chair next to me: "Honey, if that's the name you had at birth, [DEADNAME] is your only name."

My dentist, very slowly turning her rolley chair towards the woman: "Shush."

Random woman: "Excuse me?"

Me: *pissing myself laughing*

My dentist while changing my name in my info (reminder that English is not her first language, she immigrated from Russia): "There, Aspen, you have pretty boy teeth. Smile and make all girls swoon."

Me not having the heart to tell her I'm not transmasc but I'm Agender, and still pissing myself laughing: "Thank you [DENTIST NAME]."

Edit: Ok, this has gotten alot of attention, but right now my other posts is what really needs attention. Reblog the fundraisers you mfs!!!!! I don't know why you all skip those to reblog some pic of a banner saying "FREE PALESTINE" or of news from Columbia University! Literally these people from Gaza have made an account on Tumblr and is writing in english to communicate what they need and you all are coming onto my blog or on the tag and not reblogging their posts. We have people both Palestinian and non Palestinian vetting the fundraisers! I mean more the reblogs, more the chance of the fundraisers gaining momemtum, the more there would be a chance of a donation. Please donate if you can and reblog!!! and follow them if it is possible.

@/mohammedayesh has posted about getting leaflets, telling them to evacuate Rafah. They are very low on funds. Go follow them and reblog their posts and donate if possible.

We have @/haneenatya too whose mother is suffering from eye stroke and need to evacuate. Please I have been following them for some days and it doesn't seem their own posts are getting much attention.

Follow them! They are on tumblr. Reblog their posts and donate. The protests in universities are being done on account of them. They should be our focus.

(EDIT: on re-reading my post it seems as if I am dismissing all that the students of universities are doing. I am not. I just meant, since all of it is to help Palestinians, we must not ignore them when they ask for help).

Can we all sit back for a second and really think about the fact that after Dick's parents die they don't send him to an orphanage, they send him to juvie "because the orphanages are too full".

Dick was an 8 year old who just watched his parents die infront of him. He has not committed a crime, he doesn't know anyone and he's not only in an unfamiliar building but he's in an unfamiliar city. His entire world got flipped upside down.

And let's be honest; half the people there (probably more) would be willing to kill, a good chunk of them probably have, It's Gotham. Most people there would also be in their teens, Dick is eight. That isn't a fair fight, especially if they team up against him like shown in the comics. On one occasion Dick says he think he would've died if the fight hadn't been broken up.

Worst part about all this? I seriously doubt Dick was the only one. Gotham is corrupt, the cops, the lawyers, the jurors, the judges, the child workers are all corrupt.

So many kids are probably wrongfully found guilty by a corrupt system. I can't even tell if it would be worse if the orphanages are actually full or for Dick to have been sent to juvie because of discrimination. Knowing Gotham? It's probably both.

Now I'm sad thinking about fictional kids in a fictional city getting wrongfully sent to juvie and getting beat and/or dying there.

I'm endlessly amused by the fact I applied to a market's events 6 times that prioritizes minorities, lgbtq, disabled people (I'm all three) and especially first-time vendors with them- and all I had to do to finally get accepted in was apply under a less ethnically identifiable name and 0 social media attached! I thought it would be really funny if a me who wasn't me would get in.

The random no social media guy with an 8 photo Google drive folder of my work got in first try but I didn't- and I'm gonna laugh about that tbh. 2 years of "maybe next time.." and I finally can rest easy confirming the reason I wasn't accepted truly does seem to be: they didn't want the Jew there.
