If I may intrude upon this post with a couple of shots that made me burst out laughing
I just love star trek TOS so much???? Like it's so good and so stupid at the same time xD i can't watch it with a straight face xD The amount of absurdity is unimaginable xDDDD and it's still so good dunno if it's 60's TV or smth but they make it too good
#why did they give McCoy a gun?!?#the thing is this isn’t the first time he’s gotten one#I think he’s held gun like 4 times in the series?#from the top#is there in truth no beauty#the tholian web#trouble with tribbles#the immunity syndrome#a piece of the action#the changeling#star trek

"We're all mad here" 🐇👸🔫🐯
Pro
The famous massage intro
Sulu and McCoy taking a lovely little walk together
Sulu is such a botany nerd; I love these small character moments
McCoy thinking he's loosing his last marbles
Spock literally thinking that humans go on shore leave to run up and down meadows like dogs
The way Kirk smiles when he thinks Bones is pranking him is lovely
Kirk's facial journey when he realizes McCoy and Spock played him
The first time Kirk calls McCoy Bones
The way the running is filmed and the way they run – and boy do they run in this episode
Sulu, gun enthusiast
The easy friendship between Kirk and McCoy- the way they joke and laugh with each other is so beautiful
McCoy is so beautiful in this episode, I could screenshot every second. He smiles so much and is so at ease, I mean
Continuing what we know from E3 Kirk wasn't the super cool Bro at the academy but actually the bookworm people bullied
Kirk saying that Ruth hasn't aged a day since they last were together ages ago, and the actress being the same age as Shatner when we see her... canon Kirk being into older woman okay.
McCoy rolled a natural 20 on charisma
me @ yeoman Borrows being super into McCoy's flirting: same girl same
Also I actually like that for once McCoy is the one having a little romance and getting to flirt / be desired, which is rare (because he's older and not the leading man; Tumblr, of course, disagrees)
every time the tiger is on screen I remember that Shatner literally wanted to fight it and it makes me laugh
fake character death trope! (also Bones is a beautiful corpse)
Spock like no offence lady, I'm to gay for this, Spock out
“Did you have fun guys?” “Yes we did Mr Spock” wink emoji implied, like you guys know it sounds like you had group sex right
the setting and scenery is beautiful and a nice change
the score underlines the whimsy and lightness of the episode
the premise is so silly but works well. I miss episodes like this on modern TV, just some downtime with no large scale danger, war or plot, just silly crew shenanigans that gives us more time to spend with our guys
sometimes Sci-fi has great special effects, and sometimes they just hold an antenna really close to the camera and call it a day and I love that
I'm Yeoman Borrows; Look at him being all happy
Con
McCoy's death has no lasting impact on anyone, it's just a short time plot device and then gets shelved for more adventure / silly time; Even though he does come back, I wish it wouldn't have been so trivialized here
weird wind chime sound effects of the planet
Finnegan as a character is super obnoxious and too over the top (which is saying something in the episode with Alice in wonderland)
especially the second confrontation takes ages, especially as we now have more pressing matters in the narrative
treatment of yeoman Borrows (We already know weird things are going on based on what McCoy saw, yet Kirk doesn't believe her and shows zero empathy towards her distress), also her main purpose is damsel in distress
Kirk is a bit slow to unravel the mystery and almost stupid at times? It might be excused by him using the opportunity to let go of his responsibility and being with Angela / letting out his anger with Finnegan
the amount of references and jumping between visions is too jumbled and all over the place, which is why the pacing is off. some bits are so short, they'd better be cut (Rodriguez side adventure) and some just go on (Finnegan)
Counter: Shirt rip Kirk
Quote: "You've got your problems, I've got mine. But he's got ours, plus his, plus 430 other people" - McCoy about Kirk Moment: Opening Scene, where Kirk thinks Spock is massaging him and being super uncomfortable when its a female crew member
Summary: Silly and light episode with no deeper meaning but some great character moments, funny scenes and further development of the interpersonal relationships
In another universe this is a classical painting

Back again with the erin topic, i’ve read the other day in a online forum that axl caused erin’s miscarriage, i have no idea if it’s true but okay, i’ll give you the link and the extract of it, since it’s in spanish because i’m from Argentina lol sorry.
https://www.guioteca.com/rock/la-terrible-relacion-de-axl-rose-con-erin-everly-una-historia-que-termino-en-violencia-brutal/
This is the extract i meant: “One night in 1989, Erin had enough and went home. But Axl followed her and knocked on her door. He held a gun to his temple and said he would shoot himself if they didn’t get married.” that’s one, here’s the other: “You know how rock is; within its stories, there are chapters that are impossible to verify. The saddest one says that during those days, Erin became pregnant, but Axl liked to drag his wife across the floor. He would grab her by the hair while she screamed for him not to kill her. In one of the musician’s fits of rage, Everly supposedly lost the baby. That was the sign the couple needed to end the relationship.”
At first, I thought a similar way about Erin’s miscarriage because her relationship with Axl was tumultuous, and the stress she was experiencing could’ve caused the baby to die. However, after further looking into this, I can’t conclude that Axl was the sole reason for Erin’s miscarriage. Neither of us know what TRULY happened, but there seems to be other factors that link to her miscarriage. I’ll gladly discuss it below the cut.
Firstly, there are many reasons why women suffer miscarriages. It could be because of environmental factors such as being exposed to toxins, like radiation, or smoking, drinking alcohol, and using illegal drugs. I don’t know if Erin smoked, but I do know Axl took up the habit, and so did a majority of the population during the ‘80s. The second-hand smoke from cigarettes could’ve been a factor. I also hope Erin strayed away from alcohol after discovering she was pregnant since alcoholic beverages can cause deformities.
There was a drug-related incident that occurred between Erin and Steven Adler where she overdosed on heroin. Erin got pregnant in the summer of 1990. Steven was fired from GNR on September 6, 1990. A few days later, Erin got into a physical fight with Axl and went to Steven, asking to inject her with heroin. Steven claims he never injected Erin, yet, both Andy McCoy and Angela Nicolletti, who were witnesses that night, declare otherwise.
Not only did Erin overdose, she was found with her pants down, and many speculated Steven raped her. I’m not sure if this part is even true but I find it odd (and disturbing) how Erin was left in such a state. She was taken to the hospital afterwards and survived. The newspapers manipulated parts of Erin’s story, explaining that the cause for her hospitalization was because Axl beat her when, in reality, it was because of her OD. I’m speculating her OD played a huge part in her miscarriage.
Other reasons why women miscarry is because of food poisoning, diseases, infections, high fevers, and a weakened cervix - known as fibroids - where the cervical muscles dilate too early during pregnancy. It’s possible Erin might’ve had these other problems as well, we just don’t know about it’s confirmation.
Although Axl and Erin’s relationship had become “very strained” by August of 1989, I like to believe Axl beat Erin less and regulated his emotions more after finding out she was gonna have a baby. Why do I believe this? Because, in Axl’s Rolling Stone interview, from 1992, he explains:
My mom's pregnancy wasn't a welcome thing. My mom got a lot of problems out of it, and I was aware of those problems…My real father was a pretty fucked-up individual. I didn't care too much for him when I was born. I didn't like the way he treated my mother. I didn't like the way he treated me before I was born. So when I came out, I was just wishing the motherfucker was dead.
Perhaps Axl was subconsciously aware how his mistreatment towards Erin could affect the baby, making him try to be a better individual, not just for Erin, but for their child. They probably still fought, just not as often, or as intensely as before. In another interview, Axl tells Howard Stern how his relationship with Erin is “stronger than it’s ever been!” He sounded pretty delighted and genuine about it, too. It doesn’t make any sense to me why Axl would act like his father, you know? Hence, why I believe he tried to be a better person.
People can interpret Erin’s miscarriage as a sign that their relationship was gonna end soon. Nothing else was gonna bring them closer together. The baby was their only hope 🥺
As for Axl’s “gunpoint proposal” to Erin, here’s my response to that whole situation => here
Hopefully this clarified everything for you, anon! <3

S2 episode 21 (Patterns Of Force) I just finished a really big performance and this is my little treat.
On with it:
- What is McCoy already doing on the bridge? “I don’t know, Bones.”
- Remembering I need subtitles cause they started saying nonsense words
- A sub-a-what-ius transponder? What do you want Bones to make? I literally do not understand half the things they say
- OMG SPOCK IN A HAT!
- I’m so normal about Spock in a sweater… so normal
- Oh this is the nazi episode
- I’m so out of it cause I got bloodwork done and so watching THIS episode is gonna be an experience. Also as I wrote this I heard the singular line of, “You look quite well for a man that’s been utterly destroyed, Mr. Spock.”
- Spock is confused by Kirk’s banter for a second and then once he realizes it’s a joke he looks back at the screen and does a little (McCoy) bounce
- JOHN GILL IS?!? What
- This is disturbing
- “you should make a very convincing nazi.” WHAT?!? Why would you say that-
- This continues to be disturbing
- Spock’s done, he does not give a shit as he removes the helmet to reveal messed up hair
- The fuck is happening
- I don’t want to comment on it right now. But. Shirtless…
- You can taste the sass
- Spock’s got a real :[ look on his face
- Kirk just tearing up the bed frame with Spock.. no not in that way! You see cause they’re escaping with the transponders
- “I would require some sort of platform.” “I would be honoured, Mr. Spock.” They didn’t even think for a second about using the bed… not even a second
- SPOCK GET OFF HIS BACK
- the “oh, my goodness.” From Kirk lmao
- Jim is a good pickpocket.. fanfic writers here’s your food
- The fact that their disguises work… again
- “Now we finish the job.” She walks towards him with a gun like it’s not long range
- As soon as Kirk starts introducing himself and Spock, Spock straightens his posture and puts his hand behind his back, like awwwe
- Spock is understanding gambling, McCoy will be thrilled (they’ll get to play poker together)
- Are they “weekend at Bernie” -ing John Gill?
- “We need McCoy.” Yeah you do, kirk
- Damn McCoy gets to dress up ONE TIME and it’s as a NAZI?!?
- McCoy complaining about shoe sizes and Spock going “This is how you do it, shut the fuck up and push. We don’t have time for your emotionalism (dramatic bullshit).” Kirk is smiling at them both
- They immediately get guns pointed at them
- Jim, don’t make McCoy commit more medical malpractice for you
- McCoy’s got a gun
- “The planet fragmented.. divided.” SO YOU REMADE THE NAZIS?!?
- wait wait wait… so there’s an actual reason he did this? He wasn’t forced or controlled in some way? No. What the fuck.
- Kirk sends McCoy to “stay close to Spock.”
- When Melakon insults Spock, McCoy looks so fucking furious in the background (like sir you do this to him daily)
- “I was wrong.” NO SHIT GILL
- McCoy: Now Spock, you obviously don’t under-
Spock: Obviously, Doctor, you fail to accept-
Kirk: Gentlemen, we’ve just been through one civil war. Let’s not start another.
Kirk was right to stop them there. They would’ve been at it for weeks.

I flew the most secret MiG fighter in the world for the US Air Force: Red Eagle pilot gives the low-down on America’s MiG-21 ‘Fishbed’
Hush KitMarch 16, 2021
Name: Brian McCoy
Rank: Captain
Service: United States Air Force
How did the MiG-21 differ from the F-5E?
The biggest difference for the pilot would have to be familiarity. The F-5E is essentially a beefed-up, fighter version of the Northrop T-38 Talon … an aircraft every USAF pilot had experience in during basic flight training.
First Impressions?
Small airplane! Small cockpit, archaic instrument panel, high canopy rails.
How would you rate the cockpit for the following:
a. Ergonomics?
Ergonomics wasn’t yet a thing when the ‘Fishbed’ was designed.
b. Pilot’s view?
Outward visibility contends for the worst single problem encountered by the Fishbed pilot during air combat manoeuvring. Fighting the MiG-21 required deliberate manoeuvring simply to keep the adversary in sight … regardless of the tactical advisability of such manoeuvring.
The blind zone behind the pilot (due to the ejection seat and structural members behind the seat) extends at least 40 degrees either side of the tail. The wings are not visible to the pilot – neither is the vertical tail.
The blind zone under the high canopy rails extends about 70 degrees either side as measured from the pilot’s butt centerline (aircraft structure).
The blind zone out front is about 10 degrees either side of the nose (tall instrument panel; poorly-placed gun camera; combining glass supports; thick, translucent Pexiglass sheet placed in front of pilot as protection from B-52 tail gunner).
c. Comfort
i. While not really a concern for the designers, it’s not any more uncomfortable than other fighter designs from the era. And they did paint the instrument panel a soothing shade of green specifically to calm the pilot.
d. Instrumentation
i. Primarily the instruments we used were factory-installed … with Cyrillic characters and metric system measures and graduations – neither of which were familiar to the average American fighter pilot. Luckily our outstanding maintenance professionals placed green arcs for normal operating ranges and red radials for system limits. At some point, numbers are numbers.
Our jets had American altimeters, airspeed indicators, radios, transponders, oxygen regulators and drag chutes (for the Soviet jets … F-7 jets came from the factory with drag chutes).
Yes, the ejection system was factory installed. For the older Soviet jets, that meant a 57mm mortar shell fired to propel the ejection seat (and pilot) from the aircraft. It also brought along the forward-hinged canopy which attached to the headrest of the pilot’s seat and then folded down in front of the pilot as a shield from windblast. (The canopy and related support members probably weighed 250 – 400 pounds!) The later F-7 jets featured a rocket-propelled seat that had nearly 0/0 capability (the pilot was on his own against the breeze). The fabulous ACES-II ejection seat installed in the F-15 and F-16 aircraft (among others) used similar rocket tubes that fired sequentially to keep the G-loading associated with riding the seat during ejection down to a maximum of about 16 G’s. The F-7 rocket tubes fired all at once … giving the ejectee a spine-compressing 21 G “boost” from the aircraft.
Against the F-16?
a. In WVR: Which aircraft would have the advantage and why?
i. The F-16 holds every advantage: Higher thrust-to-weight ratio, vastly better outward visibility, higher instantaneous turn rate, much higher sustained turn rate, better weapons, much better cannon and gunsight, better man/machine interface, better acceleration … the only potential advantage the ‘Fishbed’ pilot might enjoy is if the speeds in the fight slow below 250 KIAS – well below. The slower the fight gets, the more the advantage swings to the MiG.
b. Which set-ups and altitudes would the MiG-21 favour?
i. Offensive perch at 1,000 foot range in solid gun tracking solution … LOL.
ii. Side-by-side, line-abreast 500’ spread, 150 KIAS (or less), 20,000 feet MSL.
c. How should the MiG-21 pilot fight?
i. Call for help, stay close to the Viper, get slow (and hope the Viper follows suit), keep pointing the nose at the Viper to threaten him, call for help, look for any opportunity to leave the fight, consider pre-emptive ejection, call for help!”
d. Who would you put your money on?
i. It might be obvious that I’m leaning toward the F-16.
ii. But this question opens a line of consideration I’ve encountered several times on related FB posts … the idea that the superior aircraft always – and almost automatically – wins. For nearly eight years I flew nothing but air-to-air in engagements ranging from 1v1’s to Red/Green/Maple Flag exercises. I’ve led small missions and those Flag exercises. Debriefed both using high technology or chalkboards in as much detail as the situation required to illustrate the learning points involved. I estimate I’ve been in 4,500 engagements during those years. As I learned more and more about air combat and experienced varied tactics, aircraft capabilities (or lack thereof) and the occasional imposition of simple luck … the more I came to realise the skill, daring and bravado of the pilot in that other airplane was far more important in determining an engagement’s outcome than the type aircraft he was strapped into.
iii. But I’d rather be in the F-16 for such a fight.
About 60 – 70% of our ‘adversaries’ paid attention in our pre-mission briefings and avoided fighting in such a way as to maximise our limited list of potential advantages. They kept their energy up, kept their distance, threatened us enough to force us to bleed energy and then killed us quickly and cleanly. We lost nearly all of these sorts of engagements – just as intended!
The Hush-Kit Book of Warplanes will feature the finest cuts from Hush-Kit along with exclusive new articles, explosive photography and gorgeous bespoke illustrations. Pre-order our Hush-Kit Book of Warplanes here. Until Tuesday 6th April we are running a bank holiday weekend promo code. The code is CRACKING20 and is valid for 20% off pledges and pre-orders on The Hush-Kit Book of Warplanes
20 – 25% of our adversaries either ignored our briefings or intentionally sought to see what happens when they ‘stepped into the phone booth’ with us. We’d win well over half of such fights … pretty good considering we almost always started out defensively.
The rest either had a bad day, didn’t have a plan, or were so overcome by the situation that they forgot what to do. We knew what to do.
iii. We normally started on the DEFENSIVE perch, allowing frontline pilots the opportunity to watch the threat aircraft do it’s thing while they were looking out their front windows … much easier than assessing performance while looking over their shoulders.
iv. I had memorable engagements against F-15’s, F-16’s, A-4M’s … but perhaps especially against the original F/A-18.
Best thing about the MiG-21?
a. Simplicity
Worst thing about the MiG-21?
a. Toss-up between abysmal outward visibility, incredible susceptibility to battle damage and astounding energy bleed-off during heavy manoeuvring.
How would you rate the MiG-21 in the following areas:
a. Instantaneous turn rate
i. Totally dependent on airspeed. Nothing special until below 250 KIAS – then it became startling. The rate did not increase at the lower speeds … it simply did not fall off as much as expected.
b. Sustained turn rate
i. Woeful. A 4+G level turn in full AB bled a bit over 1 knot per degree of heading change. Impossible to assess a “sustained turn rate” with bleed off like that.
c. Weapons platform
i. Keep in mind we flew very early export model ‘Fishbeds’ – MiG-21 F-13’s and F-7’s. Not the most advanced Fishbeds built.
ii. We simulated carriage of the IR-guided AA-2 Atoll … a direct copy of the AIM-9B Sidewinder. Not an impressive missile. Fishbeds also carry the AA-8 Aphid IR missile … a short range missile with impressive cornering capability.
iii. As a gun platform the Fishbed suffers from an incredibly unstable gunsight … useless above 2.5-3 G’s. The gun itself suffered from poor rate of fire and low muzzle velocity … but at least it didn’t carry many rounds.
d. Acceleration
i. Acceleration of the early-model Fishbed was actually quite good. Less than late- model F-16’s but on par with F-15C’s.
e. Top Speed
i. We lived with a self-imposed limit of 600 KIAS … enough for perhaps Mach 1.3 at altitude. It’s reportedly a Mach 2 capable airframe. I see no reason to doubt that capability.
Read what fighting these MiGs was like from an F-15 pilot here
f. Take-off characteristics
i. Tonopah Test Range Airfield sits at about 5,600 feet above sea level – enough altitude to seriously reduce takeoff performance. We never flew the Bandits from a lower field elevation.
ii. Temperature varied considerably at TNX – also effecting flight performance drastically.
iii. Taking the runway, I’d lock the nosewheel in the straight-ahead position and select nosewheel braking to aid in any abort situation. Once cleared for takeoff (except for that ONE time!), I’d run the power up to MILITARY while holding the brakes. When prepared to launch, I’d simply release brakes and note the acceleration sensation at the small of my back. After perhaps 2 seconds of acceleration at just MIL, I’d thumb the release and select MAXIMUM power. The afterburner lightoff process took a few seconds (and featured a very good opportunity for the engine to cease operating altogether), caused several expected engine instrument fluctuations and normally resulted in much higher thrust output. (Sensing the differing acceleration rates of the two power settings gave me another check for normal engine operation.) Once lit, the afterburner made things happen much more quickly.
iv. The MiG-21 typically rolled about 3,500 to 5,000 feet before attaining takeoff speed at about 150 KIAS. Climbout was always in full afterburner until reaching 10,000 feet MSL. (This was to get us as quickly as possible out of the more dangerous low altitude ejection envelope.) We typically climbed out at 300 KIAS with a very steep climb angle.
v. The aircraft was designed to takeoff from even unprepared fields, climb quickly to high altitude, accelerate to supersonic speed … and run down attacking B-52 bombers. I never took off from a plowed field, so I can’t verify that specific capability – but the airplane’s delta wing made it very capable of quick climbs and rapid acceleration.
g. Landing characteristics
i. Oh, boy! Do we have to do this?
ii. First of all, refer back to the section where I discussed the limited forward visibility. Nowhere is that more relevant than during each mission’s landing phase.
Pilots had to fly the overhead traffic pattern looking obliquely forward during the final turn. This is completely natural and how every final turn is flown in every fighter jet.
When rolled out on final, that same oblique viewpoint (out both sides now) has to be used to fine-tune runway alignment … and it works okay. But the normal down-the-runway cues most guys use for rounding out and flaring to land are hidden, so peripheral vision has to substitute perceived sink rate to help ‘feel’ for the runway. This skillset needed some development. (It wasn’t as bad as the wall in front of Charles Lindbergh in the ‘Spirit of St. Louis’ … but it wasn’t as good as looking through your car’s windshield, either.)
iii. The engine’s extremely slow windup makes the landing pattern the most dangerous phase of flight for the unwary or careless ‘Fishbed’ pilot.
Idle to MILITARY power took as much as 13 seconds … almost a quarter of a minute!! Imagine a ‘Fishbed’ pilot allowing the engine’s rpm to decay all the way to idle while at low altitude, low airspeed and high sink rates – as normally occur during any routine traffic pattern.
One of the signs of low thrust availability came anytime engine rpm dropped below 80% N1.
a. The extended windup time was less than the 13-second Idle to MIL marathon … but even 5 or 6 seconds waiting for useable thrust could be critical.
b. The exhaust nozzle opened fully right around that 80% N1 reading, dropping the effective thrust to nearly nothing. That was the true danger of allowing the engine rpm to decay.
c. Instructor pilots flying chase aircraft (AT-38B’s) could visually monitor the exhaust nozzle during traffic patterns with new pilots so as to provide warning and guidance in case of decayed engine rpm … or other issues with transitioning pilots’ traffic pattern work.
An AT-38B Talon aircraft flies over the plains during a 479th Tactical Training Wing Lead-In Fighter Training (LIFT) flight near Holloman Air Force Base. Training on the Talon, LIFT pilots and weapons systems officers become familiar with fighter tactics and maneuvers which they will eventually use tactics and maneuvers which they will eventually use when flying more technologically advanced aircraft.
d. While potentially dangerous, this condition was easily avoided by simply not allowing the engine rpm to slow below the 80% N1 level. As a result, we flew wimpy wide traffic patterns with very gradual turns and descents.
iv. The Fishbed was actually easy to fly through it’s landing pattern … so long as the pilot was aware of and prepared for the unusual and potentially dangerous pitfalls unique to the aircraft.
v. Being a single-engine aircraft, we spent a lot of time thinking about and training for flameout recoveries. Our glide profile was flown at 250 KIAS … the same speed we used for other emergency recoveries.
vi. While TNX was our prime recovery field, flight conditions at the time of the emergency could make landing there impossible due to distance. There were several contingency landing possibilities in the area – like old, inactive runways or dry lake beds. (Necessity is the mother of invention.)
vii. We used drag chutes on every landing to extend brake and tire life.
Read what fighting these MiGs was like from an F-15 pilot here
h. Climb rate
i. The aircraft could climb rapidly and steeply to whatever altitude was required. Once level, the Fishbed could quickly accelerate to supersonic speed.
i. Range
i. This is an astonishingly short-ranged aircraft … even for a fighter. I’ve taken off from TNX, climbed to meet an adversary almost directly overhead the runway, fought three engagements and left the range with need to land immediately due to fuel considerations … ten minutes after takeoff!
ii. I flew 287 ‘Fishbed’ sorties in my Constant Peg career – logging 134.5 hours … a bit under 0.47 hours per sortie. We weren’t trying for long sorties and made liberal use of afterburner, so your results may vary.
iii. We never flew the Bandit jets with external fuel tanks or in a cross-country fuel-efficient mode … at least not while I was there.
j. Sensors
i. Mark-1 eyeballs were our best set of sensors – by far! Our best-in-the-business GCI controllers were a close second.
ii. There was no onboard Airborne Intercept search-and-track radar.
iii. There was no IRSTS.
iv. There was a range-only radar system that displayed information on a meter equipped with lights to indicate “In Range.” It was a pathetic system useful only when I pointed the jet straight down to get altitude verification. I suppose it may have been effective against relatively cooperative, bomber-sized targets.
Biggest myth about the MiG-21?
a. That it is not an effective combat machine. With well over 11,000 copies built over a very long production run, it remained deadly due to sheer numbers for decades.
What should I have asked you?
a. How many times did the MiG-21 try to kill you? [Tried hard only once]
b. Would you willingly fly the MiG-21 into combat? [No.]
c. Was the MiG-21 easy to taxi? [Not Day One … or Day Two]
Describe you most memorable exercise in the MiG-21?
a. Describe a typical MiG-21 fight
b. How did the Soviets fight and where did this knowledge about their tactics come from?
i. I’m unsure of the remaining classification status of some aspects of this sort of information and not comfortable discussing it. It’s probably now unclassified since the USSR is out of business but I’d prefer to leave this topic alone.
c. Which model of MiG-21 was it and where did it come from?
i. We flew the MiG-21 F-13 (an early export model best known for combat operations versus United States aircraft in Southeast Asia.) We also flew later license-built (?) F-7 aircraft. Where these aircraft came from is frankly more than I personally know or am willing to discuss.
d. What was life like between missions? How did the desire for secrecy change things in your life?
i. We left Nellis AFB every morning via MAC-owned/operated C-12 executive transport aircraft (Beechcraft King Airs). We returned almost every evening after the day’s flight operations were complete. This travel was required to enable face-to-face debriefings with our adversary aircrews. Non-pilot personnel typically traveled to Tonopah on Monday mornings and returned to Nellis Friday afternoons. There were adequate dormitory, mess hall and recreational facilities to accommodate all assigned personnel. Pilots each had a full-time dorm room in case they needed to remain overnight.
ii. Details of our squadron’s operations were classified – but the fact that something special was going on was not a closely-guarded secret. We were treated with something like lofty respect by the Nellis fighter community – and granted unquestioned ‘expert’ status in matters regarding adversary aircraft.
iii. I could not share specific information with my family. If I’d been killed while flying a MIG – my family would have been told a cover story.
iv. One night at home my heart nearly stopped during a local news broadcast clearly showing a MiG-21 taking off at Tonopah! I couldn’t say a word about what I’d seen on the TV … thankfully my young family couldn’t tell a MiG-21 from a B-29 … but my jaw dropping to the floor might have drawn attention.
Tell me something I don’t know about the MiG-21
a. It accelerates right with the MiG-27 … knot for knot!
Describe the MiG-21 in three words
a. Surprisingly nimble $hitheap!
Quickest way to lose a fight with a MiG-21?
a. Failure to pick him up visually before he’s in firing position. With a wingspan under 24’ … it’s very hard to see!
b. Slowing down with him (assuming he’s willing and able to fight at very slow speed)
Against the F-15
a. How does the MiG-21 compare to the F-15 in WVR?
i. Each of the advantages enjoyed by the F-16 in the previous discussion also apply to the F-15’s advantages (except that acceleration is basically a draw) – with the additional factor that the Eagle is even better than the ‘Fishbed’ at slow speeds. The MiG is considerably smaller and much harder to see and perhaps keep track of in a visual fight.
b. What was your most challenging opponent in BFM/DACT and why?
i. Not really a definitive single answer to this question – owing to the pilot skill factor brought up above.
ii. Need to mention that most Constant Peg engagements went according to plan.
In a 1v1 between an F-5E and a MiG-21 which aircraft would you rather be in and why?
a. If life and death is not on the line, I’d prefer to be in the MiG-21. Knowing what I know, I can control the fight, bring it to a situation I can completely control and confidently maneuver to win the fight … decisively.
b. If life and death is on the line … give me the F-5E. (Damn few ‘Fishbed’ pilots realise they can fight that jet down to 30 KIAS. The better survivability of the F-5E can’t be denied.)
What was Constant Peg and how did it work?
a. Constant Peg was a flight program utilising actual threat aircraft to expose frontline American fighter crews to the sight of an aircraft they’d expect to kill. There was some exposure to fighting that aircraft – with the expectation that they would not encounter more skilled pilots anywhere else.
b. Normally selected units deploying to Nellis for Red Flag exercises were given the opportunity to spend part of their time with us.
i. They would operate out of Nellis – just as they did for Red Flag.
ii. We’d inbrief them into our program – usually on a Saturday.
During this inbrief each pilot would sign a sheet informing them of the penalties for divulging information about our program.
We’d also brief them about the aircraft they’d be flying against. (This was when we’d tell them not to go into the phone booth with the ‘Fishbed’!)
iii. We would wait on the ground until GCI told us our adversaries were inbound to our operating areas at the extreme northwest corner of the vast Nellis airspace complex. Our flight time was extremely limited, so saving fuel was a primary … and constant! … concern.
iv. Immediately after takeoff (we most often took off in pairs), we’d run a Soviet-style tactic for our adversaries to practice their radar work. They’d also run a stern-conversion on us to get us quickly together to get on with the meat of our mission.
v. Participating pilots had to first experience a Performance Profile mission with one of our pilots. This was a sophisticated ‘show and tell’ mission where the Red Eagle pilot described identifying features of his aircraft (without actually naming the aircraft … never know who’s listening!), coordinated a drag race to compare acceleration capabilities and led an advanced-handling demonstration.
vi. Once completing a PP with a ‘Fishbed’ pilot, our adversaries normally got a second PP with a Flogger pilot.
vii. After flying a PP with both aircraft, they were cleared to fly BFM missions with us.
BFM missions with the ‘Fishbed’ were full-up fights. We’d normally begin out front in the defensive position … allowing our adversary to watch us do our thing out their front window. Most of the time we’d start at about 20,000 feet, with about 400-450 knots on both jets and the adversary about 9,000 feet behind at the MiG’s 4:30 or 7:30 position. We’d usually get two long or three short engagements before the ‘Fishbed’ was out of fuel.
Who would win Eurofighter Typhoon versus Dassault Rafale? Analysis here
BFM missions with the Flogger were not very challenging for our adversaries … the Flogger couldn’t turn well at all. But seeing that in person was an important thing to learn.
viii. Once completing BFM missions with both aircraft, adversary pilots moved on to DACT missions – normally against one ‘Fishbed’ and one ‘Flogger’. (We rarely flew DACT sorties since so much emphasis was put on the BFM missions.)
c. We also participated in actual Red Flag missions – either with the Bandit aircraft or our AT-38B’s … or sometimes with both! (Our participation limited the Red Flag scenario to American participants only – due to the classification of our program.)
Why were you chosen for this effort and how would you describe the other individuals in your team?
a. I sometimes wonder why I was selected for this program. I volunteered, had built a solid reputation within the USAF fighter community and had appropriate experience that allowed me to be considered. Only Aggressors, Fighter Weapon School graduates and former Topgun Instructors were considered to become Bandits! I was an Aggressor. Bottom line? I got lucky!!
i. Even with those prerequisites, a prospective Red Eagle had to pass muster with the current Red Eagles. One vote, “No” … and you were out.
ii. Three personal interviews took place: two with individual General Officers – in their offices. Not intimidating at all! The third … and most important … was with the Red Eagle Operations Officer. Fail that one – and the outcome of the other interviews didn’t matter.
iii. Needed a security clearance a notch above Top Secret to play. Not routine.
b. Everyone that wore a Red Eagle patch was absolutely top-notch! The pilots I flew with – USAF, USN and USMC – were extremely skilled aviators. I’d go to war with any one of them … or all of them! Red Eagle GCI controllers were the absolute best. Our maintenance folks were beyond comparison … best in the business! They could build an airplane from spare parts without any problems – or they could fashion parts if none existed! We pilots routinely placed our lives in their hands without batting an eye. We also entrusted our lives to the Life Support technicians that worked directly for me (I was the Squadron Life Support Officer) but needed no direction from me. (There were two ejections while I was there … both pilots survived without meaningful injuries – thanks in part to the efforts of my guys.) We had dedicated professionals manning the firetrucks, security posts, refueling trucks, cooking our meals, cleaning our rooms, filling out our paperwork … at every level of effort – amazing, hand-picked personnel volunteered to pull classified duty at a classified location for several days each week away from home. I’m still impressed by the numbers of highly-qualified people that supported our unique mission. And kept it all secret until the program was declassified in 2006!

Logos and Pathos (Book 2) Chapter Nine
Spock x Empath! Reader
Chapter Nine: Parallel Emotions
Summary: (Y/N) and Spock understand each other in every universe.
(Y/N) walked into the Sickbay acutely aware of Spock’s phaser trained on their back. Uhura, Scotty, Bones, and Kirk stood inside, looking on worriedly for any sign of injury. Spock was logical in this universe, but there was no telling if he was willing to be violent unlike their universe’s Spock.
“Doctor, it is time for answers,” said Spock.
Before he could continue, (Y/N) pivoted and tackled him. Caught off guard, Spock stumbled back and dropped his gun. He regained his foot and threw (Y/N) off him and over a Sickbay bed. Next, Scotty and Uhura went at him, but Spock easily pushed them back into the ground with his Vulcan strength. Bones ran at him, but Spock ducked and dumped him over his shoulder to the ground roughly. Kirk punched at him, but Spock grabbed his arm and tossed him across the room. He advanced, but (Y/N) jumped up and kicked him in the back.
Spock stumbled to his knees, and (Y/N) was on him in a moment. Their own Celian strength wasn’t equal to that of a Vulcan, but they grabbled with him as he turned over and pinned them down. (Y/N) was a sufficient distraction for Kirk to grab a ceramic bowl and smash it over Spock’s head. (Y/N) caught him as he collapsed unconscious on them. Groaning, they pushed him off of them.
“How much time do we have, Scotty?” asked Kirk, helping the Engineer up.
“Hardly ten minutes, sir, until the conditions are right to take us back to our universe,” said Scotty. “The field density between the two universes is starting to close real fast.”
“Help me get him on the table,” said Bones, beginning to pick up Spock with (Y/N). “Well, come one! He’ll die without immediate treatment!”
Kirk and Scotty joined them, heaving the body onto the infirmary bed as Uhura watched nervously.
“Everything laid in, Scotty?” asked Kirk. “Even the time lag so the operator can get into the transporter?”
“All laid in, sir,” assured Scotty. “Come on, McCoy, you’re not taking a chance on not getting back home.”
Bones prepared a vial. “This won’t take long. I can save his life. He’s still out. He should be up by now, and if he doesn’t wake up, he could be seriously injured.”
“We’ve got barely any time,” said Scotty urgently.
“And, no offense, Bones, but I don’t know if you can make the run in time,” said Kirk.
“I can,” said (Y/N). They looked at them. “I can administer medicine to Spock if Bones gives it to me, and I can make the run.”
“Are you sure?” asked Uhura worriedly.
(Y/N) nodded. “I’m sure.”
Kirk smiled at them. He knew that their feelings lay with their Spock, but clearly (Y/N) didn’t want this Spock to suffer unnecessarily as well. Not to mention, this Spock seemed calm around (Y/N) just like their universe’s. “Alright.” He looked at Bones. “Prepare the syringe.”
Bones nodded. “Inject it as soon as we’re out of the room, that way the buffer between him waking and us escaping it right.”
(Y/N) nodded. “Got it.”
“Be quick,” said Uhura to her friend as she left with the rest of the landing party.
(Y/N) took a deep breath and picked up the syringe. As they did, though, Spock awoke behind them, completely free of the need for medicine to wake up. They turned back, and he rosed before them, grabbing their wrist as they gasped.
“Why did the Captain let me live?” Spock gazed at them appraisingly. “Why did you let me live?”
“Let me go,” said (Y/N) softly, trying to reason with him, but Spock’s harsh grip on them didn’t let up. “Just let me go and this whole mess gets fixed.”
They tried to back away, but Spock followed them, cornering them against the wall. Spock raised his other hand and placed it on (Y/N)’s face. They immediately felt a fellow psychic’s mind trying to pry into theirs and jerked away.
“No!” cried (Y/N), putting up a barrier as best they could.
“Our minds are merging, (L/N),” said Spock. “Our minds are one. I feel what you feel.” He paused and furrowed his brow as the flood of powerful emotions came into him from (Y/N). He was inundated with their memories of their world, how they came to be in his. However, what struck Spock the most was the Spock of their universe and the (Y/N) of that universe.
He could see Spock fighting through a sandstorm to find (Y/N). He could see (Y/N) pulling emotions of distress from Spock. He could see them standing, resolute together, against Khan. He could (Y/N) removing Spock’s pain when he lost his sight. He could see the softness between them; he sensed the deep, unyielding emotions.
Spock jerked back and let (Y/N) gasp as their mind was released as their memories of their world played before his eyes. He could feel (Y/N)’s emotions toward the other version of himself, and he…he could see in that Spock’s actions a deep care for (Y/N) as well. It made this Spock…long for whatever they shared. In this universe, such emotions could not be shared. It would be weakness.
“Are you satisfied?” questioned (Y/N), eyeing him warily.
Spock straightened, still reeling from the extreme differences of his world and theirs. “You are not of this world.”
“No,” confirmed (Y/N).
“And you are trying to return to your own?” asked Spock.
“Yes,” said (Y/N).
Spock paused. “Very well, then.”
“You’re not going to stop us?” asked (Y/N) warily.
“I would prefer my Captain and Interrogator returned to this reality,” said Spock. “I suppose the rest of your people are in the Transporter Room?”
(Y/N) nodded. “We’ve got to hurry. There’s barely any time before the fields between our realities can’t be passed through.”
l
Kirk and the others turned as (Y/N) and Spock walked into the Transporter Room. They immediately gazed at Spock, worried he had a phaser on (Y/N) again. Marlena, Kirk’s girlfriend in this reality, had already messed with the Transporter controls, meaning someone had to manually control it instead of having automatic controls. Spock attacking again was not an issue they needed.
“(L/N), are you alright?” asked Kirk.
(Y/N) nodded. “I’m fine. And Spock is here to help.”
Bones frowned. “He is?”
“It is logical that I would want you to return to your own reality so my fellow officers may return here,” said Spock, taking his place at the Transporter controls.
“You’re a man of integrity in every universe,” said Kirk fondly.
“I shall operate the transporter,” said Spock. “You have two minutes and ten seconds.”
“For that time, I have something to say,” said Kirk. “How long until the Halkans’ prediction of galactic revolt is realized?”
“Approximately 240 years,” said Spock.
“The inevitable outcome?” asked Kirk.
(Y/N) brightened, understanding what Kirk was doing. They could feel his determination. He was trying to show Spock there was another path.
“The Empire shall be overthrown, of course,” said Spock.
“The illogic of waste, Mr. Spock—the waste of lives, potential, resources, time. I submit to you that your Empire is illogical because it cannot endure,” said Kirk. “I submit that you are illogical to be a willing part of it.”
“You have one minute and twenty-three seconds,” said Spock, seemingly unaffected.
“If change is inevitable, predictable, beneficial, doesn’t logical demand that you be apart of it?” questioned Kirk.
“One man cannot summon the future,” said Spock.
“But you can change the present,” said (Y/N), stepping towards him. “You can be what this Enterprise needs. Find a reason to spare the Halkans, stick to it, show people that there’s a path beyond fighting. If you see this path is doomed, I’m sure others do as well.”
“Captain, (L/N), get in the chamber!” called Scotty.
“What do you say?” asked (YN), gazing at Spock.
“A man must also have the power,” said Spock.
“In my cabin, there is a device. It will make you invincible,” said Kirk.
“I believe in you, Spock,” said (Y/N).
Spock blinked. The (Y/N) of his universe had never spoken his name. It was always “Commander” and “Sir.” Spock had to admit, this (Y/N) reminded him of the reports of his (Y/N) before the Empire molded them. They had been outspoken, refusing to go along until forced. Seeing them this free was…Well, it made him feel more inspired to try to change this reality if brave, strong characters like this were the result.
“So, what will it be? Will you hide in this tyranny or fight for a freer future?” asked (Y/N). They smiled. “It’s up to you.” They turned with Kirk and walked onto the Transporter. “One man with a vision. That’s all it takes.”
“I shall consider it,” said Spock, but if (Y/N) knew their Spocks, there was conviction in his gaze. He flipped the switch, and in a moment, the landing parties beamed back to their respective correct realities.
l
"Unhand us!" cried the Kirk of the Mirror universe as the original Spock and his fellow officers pushed the alternates into the Transporter.
"I assure you, this is for your own good," said Spock evenly.
The alternate (Y/N) stepped up calmly, but before they did, Spock cleared his throat. "Yes?" they asked warily.
"Ask your universe's version of me to use logic to decide his course of action," said Spock. It was quiet enough that the rest of the landing party wouldn't hear. "This empire cannot last in the vastness of the universe."
"No. I doubt it can," said (Y/N).
"Your Spock will think the same," said Spock.
"How can I be sure?" challenged (Y/N). "He may not be outwardly cruel, but he does what he needs to survive."
Because if he is like me, he'll listen to you. "Because, although logic is the most important part of Vulcan life, sometimes people need a push to do the right thing," said Spock.
(Y/N) cocked their head, a strange feeling in their chest. Swallowing hard and nodding, they stepped onto the transporter. They gave a curt nod of farewell to Spock until he flipped the switch, and the landing parties reverted to their original realities.
1
“I have heard the rest of the landing party’s tales of their time in the other universe,” said Spock, taking his seat beside (Y/N)’s workstation. “Did you find it similarly strange?”
(Y/N) nodded. “It was a weird place. I mean, can you really imagine me interrogating people? Not to mention, everyone was so mean. I hated it.” They smiled coyly, though. “One person was pretty similar to our universe’s, though.”
Spock raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”
“It seems Spocks are always infallibly logical, no matter the world,” said (Y/N). They grinned. “I have to admit, I was worried at first since that Spock did fight us because he didn’t know we were trying to get back to our reality, but after he realized what was happening, he knew it was for the best.” Their smile softened. “And I think Kirk and I convinced him that their world can be changed for the better. I hope he’s taken our advice.”
“If you gave the advice, then I suspect he listened.” Spock’s gaze was filled with an emotion (Y/N) wished they could feel to identify. “After all, you have always had a way with words that not even I can resist.”
“Why thank you, Spock,” said (Y/N). “What was the (Y/N) of that world like here?”
“They were wild, yes, but I must admit, they seemed keen to remain safe. I suspect they, like the Spock of that world, see that there could be another path,” said Spock.
(Y/N) smiled. “Then I guess they and that Spock have a chance. Between you and me, I don’t think even a whole Empire could stop them from changing their world.”
“A definite likelihood,” said Spock.
“All the same, while there is hope, I’m glad to be back,” said (Y/N). “I’m much better suited to this reality.” They looked at Spock softly. “And I like the people here much more. No Spock compares to you.”
Spock fought valiantly to keep a blush from his cheeks. “And I prefer you to any other (Y/N). I’m glad you’ve returned.” I’m glad you’ve returned to me.
l
“Dammit, you couldn’t have gotten us back any earlier?” huffed Kirk of the other universe. “Next time, be faster, or you’re done, Commander Spock.” He stalked out of the Transporter Room, the rest of the landing party following, as did Marlena.
“Of course, Captain,” said Spock. As (Y/N) passed by, he called out, “Lieutenant.”
(Y/N) paused. “Yes, Commander?”
Spock’s own slight preference for (Y/N), the only person of the Enterprise who didn’t look for trouble, was spurred on by the memory of the other (Y/N) and Spock’s deep emotions. Hope let him have the strength to begin the steps towards the connection his heart longed for and the future of peace he desired. “I’d like to speak to you.”
A flash of worry passed over (Y/N)’s face. “Oh? What about?” They were wary, prepared to fight their way out of dnager.
“The future,” said Spock, stepping forward. “The future of us and our world.”
(Y/N) felt themself relax for the first time in years as they saw something within Spock’s gaze that suggested they were not the only one tired of the cycle of pain the Empire created. “What type of future?
And so, in two universes, Spock and (Y/N) drew closer—one pair with feelings as steady as the sea; the other just beginning their connection—both with hearts in synch.

“One of the most dangerous men I’ve ever known is about to have involuntary access to the knowledge and power of a Fallen angel, which would give the Denarians access to major influence within the United States. Not to mention the serious consequences for me if they succeed in making it happen” pg. 187 Interesting that this is Harry’s thoughts about Marcone taking up a coin. I wonder if he still thinks that now that Marcone’s taken up a coin.
“Michael caught Sayna’s hand on the way up, and pushed it gently back down” pg. 187 Ha
“This isn’t a democracy, Harry. We serve a king” pg. 187 Eh? I’m pretty sure this is a democracy Michael
“Transition: Don’t start another war, Harry” pg. 192 Ha and it’s only one war

“I suppose he considers it a particularly messianic act.”
“That’s not why I did it” I said
“Of course it isn’t. He knows that. It isn’t easy for him. Usually he’s the one protecting another, willing to pay the price if he must” pg. 196 What’s some light treason to help your friends? And Harry is a good friend.

“I’m betting Marcone left her a sample of his hair to use to track him down, for just such an occasion as this” pg. 237 Smart
“I missed my staff. I missed my duster” pg. 243 No blasting rod? Eh?
“This isn’t over,” he said, a harsh edge in his voice. “We’ll discuss it after” pg. 262 Aw Michael and Harry are fighting :(
“Stop,” I said “Occam time” pg. 266 Ha
“I swear, by my own power, that I will abide by those restrictions” pg. 273 Oh Harry swore an oath to help Marcone.
“Can’t-get-a-date-itis. He’s supposed to be some kind of catalyst or conversion starter. Or failing that a consolation prize” pg. 276 Ha
“Grew up hard in the war, though that didn’t give them enough brains to keep from looking up to me.” pg. 279 Aw poor Harry :(
“The station’s lights went out. All of them. At exactly the same time.” pg. 280 Oh no
“Granted, He doesn’t always answer quite this quickly” pg. 289 Ha
“When things had gone dark and scary she had somehow rounded them up and gotten them into a room. That took a lot more moxie than most people had. I also noted that she had been kneeling between the customer and the doorway. I liked her already.” pg. 289 I also like Carol. I like that this shows that ordinary people can and do help others.
“I held up my right hand and with a murmur called a tiny sphere of flame. The spell sputtered and coughed before it coalesced, and even that the light was barely brighter than a candle” pg. 295 Something is up with Harry. He doesn’t mention his blasting rod and he doesn’t use any fire spells. It could be because Jim is using The Law of Conservation of Details but I don’t think so. Mind magic maybe? So that he doesn’t remember his fire or blasting rod. Like with Lea and Susan back in Grave Peril. But by who? Not a human practitioner or else the Wardens would come. Not Molly, she hasn’t shown up yet and she wouldn’t do that to Harry. Hmm Mab maybe but why would she do that? She’s not a human practitioner and she’s powerful enough to do it. I think she’s more powerful than Lea. But again why would she do that? She had time to do it when she was talking to Harry. But I’m stuck on the motive as to why Mab would do that when Harry is helping her. Wild guessing as there really aren’t any other suspects but Mab.
“You rush a miracle worker, you get lousy miracles!” pg. 298 Ha
So cool that Harry used the sprinkler system to wash away the Myrk.
“I don’t call him Fist of God as a pet name, folks” pg. 302 Ha
“Stupid, Harry. Stupid, Stupid” pg. 309 Stop being so self critical Harry. You need some more self confidence. Go read a self help book or something.
So cool that Harry used Gard’s locker to fight.
“Mercy? From a Winterbound?” pg. 312 Yep Harry’s cool like that.
“I’m not bound” I snapped “This is purely temp work” pg. 312 More foreshadowing for Harry.
Kincaid and Ivy! This book got better!
“Maybe it was just my imagination that it took Michael a second longer to answer than in the past” pg. 320 Aw :( I don’t like that Harry and Michael are fighting.
“But was prevented from going father by Kincaid hand” pg. 332 Let Ivy pet Mouse
Just Luccio taking a bath by the fire in someone else’s house as you do.
“The last thing I noticed, before I dropped off, was that under all the blankets I was entirely undressed.
And I was clean” pg. 335 Who undressed Harry and cleaned him? Luccio?
“Thomas gave me a look of his own. Then he thwapped me gently upside the head” pg. 339 Ha
“What does a woman need to do, Harry? Rip her clothes off, throw herself on top of you, and shimmy while screaming ‘Do me Baby!’?” pg. 340 Ha and knowing Harry it could help but more likely Harry would think that the woman would be cursed.
In defense of Harry I also didn’t know that Luccio was flirting with Harry. And Luccio needs to be more direct with Harry. He’s oblivious and dense. Susan was the one to ask Harry out back in Storm Front.
“I’ve never been hit on by a woman a hundred and fifty years older than me” pg. 340 Ha and what about Lara?
“Moran. Thank God Nicodemus is a man” pg. 341 Ha and with my reading of Bi Harry I won’t be too relieved there.
“Tiny” Sanya rumbled to Michael, clenching a demonstration fist “But fierce” pg. 346 Ha
Part 2
“The wind caught my coat and the cloak both, and almost knocked me over until I gathered in close to my body again and under control. Hendricks, solid and huge in his dark, sensible London Fog winter coat, went by me with a small smile on his face.” pg. 353 Ha and glad even Hendricks is amused by Harry.
“She can’t be here” pg. 355 I thought things ended well between Kincaid and Murphy back in Hawaii?
“She was watching two otters chase each other around the habitat, and smiling.” pg. 357 Aw :)
“Kincaid stopped in his tracks when he saw that. Just to see what he’d do, I tried to step past him. He shot me a look like he’d murder me if I tried to interrupt her, and my opinion of him went up a notch.” pg. 357 Aw :)
“He had a good voice, mellow and surprisingly deep” pg. 361 Bi Harry 29 I think I mean I hope not because it’s Nicodemus and Harry would have horrible taste in men.
“Archive guarantee his neutrality” pg. 362 Wow Nicky just assumes the police officer is a man. That’s a bit sexist. First Nicky was racist now sexist get with the times man.
“He was a man of medium height and build, his features handsome, strong, his eyes dark and intelligent.” pg. 363 Bi Harry 30 Harry what did I just say? Absolutely terrible taste in men. I see he and his mother have similar tastes. Harry has a type ie older scary men with silvery hair. Silver fox if you will.
“Sans demolition, if you think you can refrain.” pg. 363 Ha and no Harry can’t refrain from causing property damage.
“Nicodemus let out another quiet, charming laugh.” pg. 365 Bi Harry 31
“And you offer such insolence regardless?”
“Habit,” I said “It doesn’t make you special or anything, believe me” pg. 367 Ha
“Nicodemus.
Blinked.” pg. 369 Oh Nicodemus didn’t know. We have a rogue Denarius on our hands
“I glared up at him and debated slamming him through one of those Corinthian columns by way of objecting to be manhandled. But I decided that I didn’t want to piss him off.” pg. 369 Ha
“At least it has some survival instincts” pg. 370 Ha and Harry has no survival instincts
“Kincaid, get the kid out of here!” I screamed. “They’re coming for Ivy” pg. 373 Oh no if they hurt Ivy I demand there blood
“I guess it came down to a single question: whether or not I was the kind of man who walks away when he knows a little kid is in danger” pg. 378 No Harry isn’t that kind of man
“The thorny Denarian” Thorned Namshied
“…and he just ate my spell.” pg. 380 Ha and I wonder if Marcone can do that now?
I’m worried about the animals they can’t run away
“While the Archive would know that the proper decision would be to allow Kincaid to die in order to protect the sanctity of the Archive, Ivy wouldn’t be making the decision with the same detached calm. Kincaid was the closest thing she had to family. She wouldn’t. She couldn’t.” pg. 396 Aw and Harry she cares about you too. You Named her and I think she considers you a friend.
“I wish I knew,” I panted. “That way I could exercise free will while telling you to go fuck yourself” pg. 401 Ha
“I hadn’t extended my line of thinking beyond Kincaid. But of all the people who had dealt with the Archive, I’d been one of the only ones to take any interest in her as anything but a font of knowledge. I’d been the one to inquire after her personality. I’d been the one to give her a name. Sad but true, I was the closest thing that little girl had to a friend.
She couldn’t have let anything happen to me, either.” pg. 403 While I love that Ivy considers Harry a friend this isn’t a great time for this.
“I could use charts to make it easier for you to understand. And color them in with crayons. I enjoy crayons.” pg. 405 Aw baby’s first attempt at sassing the enemy
“I wasn’t certain but it sounded like the kid was trying to give the bad guys some gruff on my behalf. She needed to work on her technique, but it was the thought that counted. If I could have breathe, I might have gotten a little choked up.” pg. 406 Aw :) I’m so proud of Ivy. I’m glad she has a friend in Harry.
Oh no they took Ivy :(
“Michael had some serious pecs.” pg. 423 Bi Harry 32
“Never mind Michael’s pecs. Sanya made us both look like we needed to eat more wheat germ” pg. 424 Bi Harry 33
“Jared. Huh.” pg. 424 Kincaid first name is Jared really?
“She doesn’t have anybody else. No one” pg. 424 Aw :(
“And we fought them. That war could end. It could all be over” pg. 428 No unfortunately not
“Molly once burned my egg. My boiled egg. I don’t know how.” pg. 432 Ha
“You’re a creature of habit, Harry. You don’t like change” pg. 435 Yep
“So how they gonna get that creepy little girl a coin? Or one for the boss?” pg. 436 Good idea Cujo but rude for calling Ivy a creepy little girl.
“Molly was committing dinner by that time, aided and abetted by Sanya, who was taking who seemed to take some kind of Russian delight in watching the train wrecks in progress.” pg. 439 Ha
“Ivy,
You are not alone.
Kincaid is alive. I’m all right. We’re coming after you.
Don’t listen to them. Hang on.
We’re coming.
You are not alone.
Harry” pg. 444 Aw I love this bit so much.
“You know me, Michael. I’m always careful.” pg. 447 Ha
“What” he said in a low, deadly tone, “is that?” pg. 449 Oh Nicky is scared of Mouse
“It’s been a little while since anyone was quite that insolvent to my face.” pg. 450 I’m pretty sure the last person was also Harry back in Death Mask.
“Do you always retreat into insouciance when you are frightened, Dresden?” pg. 450 Ha and yes he does
Nicky is a terrible boss. He doesn’t even remember Rasmussen.
“After all those years of baseless suspicion and hostility from your own Council, that must be a painful realization.” pg. 453 Aw :(
“The Council doesn’t need my help to be a bunch of tools.” pg. 454 Ha
Harry being incredibly melodramatic with Michael.
“Look at me when I’m talking to you!” pg. 462 Aw :(
“I don’t share everything with you,” I retorted. “I don’t share everything with anyone. That’s nothing new.” pg. 462 Harry you should talk to your friends.
“Because in thousand years, no one has rid themselves of the shadow of one of the Fallen” pg. 463 So cool that Harry was the first person to rid themselves of a shadow of the Fallen. Sad that it meant that Lash died.
“Have I suddenly gone crazy on you?”
He arched an eyebrow
“More so than usual” pg. 465 Ha
“Harry,” he said quietly, “what happened to your blasting rod?” pg. 465 Oh good someone else is worried about Harry and his blasting rod
“Someone had been in my head
Someone had been in my head
Oh God” pg. 466 Oh no this is just like when Murphy was mind raped back in Grave Peril with the Nightmare.
Harry isn’t having a good time.
So Molly looked around in Harry’s head
“You aren’t the sort of person to do things by halves, Harry. Grand gestures included.” pg. 469 Ha
“In the event that you haven’t figured it out, I’m not the kind of person to be casually involved in much of anything” pg. 473 Yep
“Dresden, it seems to me that you’d lock yourself up pretty tight if someone took a regular bullet for you with a regular body. Much less if you were under psychic attack and this imaginary friend died right inside your own brain. Something like that happens, shouldn’t you have expected to be a basket case, at least for a little while.” pg. 476 Yep Harry loves his friends and having someone die for you will leave a mark.
“You remember when Karvos struck his fingers in my brain?” pg. 475 I see Murphy is drawing parallels away from well.
Not the biggest fan of this Luccio/Harry ship aren’t they subordinate and boss?
“You might be able to empower such a circle for half an hour, Dresden.” pg. 483 I’m glad Luccio knows that Harry is powerful
“I was going to put the dinosaur back,” I said. “But I was unconscious” pg. 485 Ha
They have Ivy at Deamonreach? How’d they get there and not get booted off?
“You couldn’t spot a pop culture reference if it skittered up and implanted an embryo down your esophagus.” pg. 503 Ha and is this why Harry makes so many pop culture shout outs?
“The creepy part was that it felt familiar.” pg. 515 Creepy maybe the island knew that Harry was going to be the next warden of the island.
Poor Ivy :(
Why doesn’t Ivy have clothes? Never mind, I don't want to know.
“I’d made that mistake once already, on a stormy night much like this one” pg. 522 Yep Grave Peril parallels
“Gentleman Johnnie Marcone” pg. 525 Is this a spelling error or is Harry being Harry?
“Something had ripped off the top half of his left ear.” pg. 525 That makes a very cool picture of Marcone
“Insufferable, arrogant little monkey,” Namshiel hissed. “Playing with the fires of creation. Binding your soul to it, as if you were one of us. How dare you so presume. How dare you wield soulfire against me. I, who was there when your pathetic kind was hewn from the muck.” pg. 533 I take it Namshiel isn’t happy that Harry has soulfire.
“I glared at him. He returned the glare with a faint, knowing smile.” pg. 536 Ha
“Ride of the Valkyries” pg. 541 Yay Gard to the rescue.
“He shook his head and pointed his fingers at Ivy” pg. 542 Yay
Part 3
Oh no Michael
“A bar of blue-white fire so dense that it was nearly a solid object lashed across the distance from me and Tessa and slammed into her like an enormous spear.” pg. 547 So cool. Don’t mess with Harry’s friends
“I find myself largely clueless about why mortal women do what they do. It will take a wiser man than me to understand what’s in a fae women’s mind.” pg. 557 Ha
“They tell children stories about you guys, you know,” I said.
“Still?” He said
I nodded” pg. 558 Aw :)
“We hear tales of thee, young wizard.”
I blinked. “You, uh?”
“We too like stories about…” His eyes searched his memory for a moment before he smiled, pleased. The gesture looked pleasantly nonviolent on his face.
“Underdogs” pg. 558 So cool that the fae tell stories of Harry.
“I want you,” I said “to get me a doughnut. A real, genuine, Chicago doughnut. Not some glamorous doughnut. An actual one. Freshly made.”
“Nay, but prithee, with sprinkles ‘pon it instead,” I said solemnly “and frosting of white.” pg. 560 Ha
“Harry Dresden speechless,” Nicodemus said. “I can’t imagine this happens every day.” pg. 564 Ha
“It’s gone!” pg. 565 Oh no the coins are gone.
“Deceitful bitches” pg. 565 :0 I was not expecting that kind of language from Nicodemus.
“Please. No one so obstreperous has been corrupted by anything other than his own pure muleheadedess.” pg. 567 Ha
“Lasciel’s shadow,” I told him, “doesn’t live here anymore, The Fallen have no power over me. And neither do you” pg. 568 So cool
“In fact, I squeezed harder” pg. 570 Good
Drat Nicodemus is still alive. Better luck next time. Third time the charm.
“I was wearing fresh clothing too. Thomas. He didn’t say anything about it, and neither did I. It’s a brother thing.” pg. 582 Aw :) Yay!
“His heart. They hurt his hurt.” pg. 586 Aw :( Poor Molly
“Families stay, Harry” pg. 587 Aw :)
“Given what he’d been saved from, it would be consistent with his character for Marcone to repay the people who bailed him out with whatever aid he could render in turn. It irked me that Marcone could ever be in a position to offer significant aid to Michael, regardless of circumstances.” pg. 590 Yep Marcone is cool like that
So Harry meets Uriel. I think God likes Harry despite Harry’s thoughts.
“You will not. I do not belong to you-“ pg. 598 Not yet
What made Mab so mad?
I take it the White Council would be mad if they find out and Bob.
“I get it,” I said. “You don’t think I should get close to her. Unless you’re worried about what’s going to happen when you wake her up and she’s really scared and confused.” pg. 608 Hypocritical much
“They did things to me,” she said
“I know,” I said quietly “Been there. But I was all right after a while. You’re going to be alright. It’s over.” pg. 609 Don’t like those implications with Harry and Ivy experiencing the same thing and using the same words. Add to it that Ivy was naked upon rescue doesn’t help.
“Couldn’t find its heart if it had a copy of Gray’s Anatomy, X-ray vision, and a stethoscope,” I said “No. They can lay down the law about magic. But they aren’t telling me who I’m allowed to befriend.” pg. 609 That’s a little cult like. The White Council can’t tell people who they can or can’t befriend.
“Morgan told them you’d say that. So did McCoy and Listen-to-Wind. The Merlin wouldn’t hear it.” pg. 609 Morgan! He knows enough about Harry to know that Harry wouldn’t go for it.
I’m glad Harry hugged Ivy and that she got his letter. Ivy needs a support system.
“He has a teddy Glock.” pg. 610 Ha
I’m glad Murph is also concerned about Luccio and Harry.
“Marcone. I’ll look into it.” pg. 614 Harry knew already that Marcone took the coin?
“I don’t have it,” Marcone said.” pg. 616 Either Marcone is lying outright or using exact words. Hmmm
“The child” Marcone said “Is she well?” pg. 617 Aw :) I hope Ivy and Marcone talk to each other after this.
“Then you should get some rest,” Marcone said. “You look”-his mouth twitched up at the connors-”like a raccoon. Who has been run over by a locomotive.” pg. 617 Ha
“A lot of men talk to the women they sleep with,” I said “That’s always been true. And it would give you a really good reason to get close to him”
“He’s like a lot of men,” pg. 618 I can’t picture Marcone doing this. Also I can’t believe I was right about Helen being the leak.
“Oh that.” Anastasia said. “Your Sight’s coming in. That’s all.” pg. 622 Oh cool!
Final thoughts
As always I liked the fights and thought the book was funny. Bi Harry moments up to 33. I question Harry’s taste in men. What I’d like to see is Ivy and Harry interacting more. Maybe play dates with Ivy and Maggie. I think it’s cool that Harry got Soulfire. I’m glad Harry and Michael are friends again. I wish we got more Marcone in this book. I’m surprised I was right about mind magic and Mab. And with Helen and the safe house. Not a fan of this Harry/Luccio ship. The White Council continues to be the absolute worst. They can’t tell their members who they can and can’t befriend that ridiculous. The fact that Harry and Thomas have to pretend not to be brothers and not interact much because the White Council will use them is terrible. It’s also a little cult-like. They do similar things to them and I could probably use the Bite model to show that they’re cult-like. Nicodemus is definitely scared of Harry now that Harry’s strangled him twice now. As for Executive Priority Health, why would Marcone buy the old Velvet place? As for Harry I wouldn’t want to be within 100 yards of the place but Harry seems ok? With going in.
Mind rape
Now onto Harry and the mind rape. As with Murphy back in Grave Peril this is essentially rape. Harry’s reaction is full on breakdown. While it’s similar to his reaction in Grave Peril it’s different in that Micheal is there to help and he isn’t in a laundry room. I wonder if Harry will have similar actions to paranoia and insomnia. I continue to wish Harry gets therapy. Maybe one of the small practitioners in the Paranet is a therapist. There was some parallels to Death Mask in this book with the mind rape and sacrad hospitality. Could Jim stop hurting Harry please.
Marcone
Now I know Marcone has the coin. Whether he accepted the coin yet is another. I can’t imagine what he went through with torture and hurting Ivy. Do you think he was reminded of Amanda and that’s why he took the coin. Surly Gard told him about the Fallen. He wouldn’t pick up the coin unless he knew what he was doing. I can’t picture him saying anything about his safe house to Helen. And I don’t see Marcone killing Helen. That would make Amanda an orphan. Maybe the guilt is making him do things he wouldn’t normally do.
Onto the next book!

it's thursday, lets round up law and order night
Just discovered I can select citytv toronto so I can watch this shit at 5pm. Fucking win.
Okay, the way these eps are airing doesn’t make our hypothesis about the maddie case coming to canada to launch CO:TO make sense, we’ll see…
Not shaw instantly knowing it’s a dating app 👀👀
Jfc...word on my laptop doesnt want to open, im stuck doing this through safari, fuck i hate the way technology is changing... hoping it works later, i was planning on writing tonight. Ugh.
Man, the way that receptionists/door staff is always all “hey! Excuse me! You can’t go back there” always makes me laugh, like, first off, how do the cops know where they’re going/that the person theyre looking for is actually back there?
Why are there no lights on in this courtroom? Wtf?
Nolan just tells sam to do all the work and then takes lead on all the cases, huh?
The way this ep is going its lowkey looking like mccoy is getting fired/forced to retire, not doing it voluntarily lol.
Lol, i give no shits if they fire nolan, just don’t touch my samantha bebe pls.
Okay so they really are setting mccoy up to being fired, hey?
All of these shows would be SO much better if they actually just acknowledged that they all exist in the same universe/city. Like... i’d love to see the same recurring cast members as the defence attorneys/judges/etc as the same characters in all three shows. Or like, have them mention each other, like in this ep they easily could have at least been like “hold on, I'll call benson, maybe she caught the case” no need to guest star, just mention it. Though they could guest star the other characters considering svu is only giving screen time to M and Ice...
I am SO bored watching jack in court... where’s the spunk?
There is way too much political shit that goes into this. Ugh.
Also this send off is lame. They really couldnt have done it any better? The promos made me think it was some big celebratory thing...
Yeah that was lame as shit.
Alright... moment of truth.... is CI Toronto going to be good or absolute crap?
Why is it tinted blue? This is like when shows “go to mexico” and they just tint the screen yellow. Do they think canada is blue tinted because of the snow/cold?
Theme song does not slap.
Where did my subtitles go??
Okay the liutenant is my faourite part so far. I like her. Female detective is on the fence for me right now, i don’t like the dude.
Are they not carrying guns?? Does dick wolf think canadian cops don’t carry guns? Cause i assure you they do...
LOL at the casual dropping of facts about characters we know nothing about. She has a kid, noted.
... i stopped paying attention, i can’t lie. This isn’t terrible, but it isn’t great. We coulda had For the Defence...
Okay, so like i said, not terrible, but i found it pretty boring.
Moving on to SVU
Okay this is clearly some kind of abduction situation going on.
Velasco got a line! Yay!
Wanna steal that plaid...ngl.
“aren’t you a captain” THAT IS EXACTLY MY QUESTION, HOW DOES THIS SQUAD NOW HAVE TWO CAPTAINS??!! Make it make sense!!
“and you needed a rollins” thank you fin for telling it like it is.
Liv is off her fucking rocker man, like yeah, the kid on the train obvi needs help, and they should intervene and there is a slight chance that it is related to the maddie situation, but that’s the only thing she can see righ tnow and it’s not making for a good show.
Say pittsburg one more time. I dare you.
“it’s captain benson” uh... eileen called *her* why did that phone convo go like that?
The delulu in this episode is stronger than my delulu imagining being married to fictional charaters jfc..
“happi burger” ?!?!? I'm having s9 flashbacks
Aaaand a guest star that was on the show in the last year and a half is guest starring again... as a different character... not surprised. *sigh* (at the v least she’s acting her ass off and is good at what she does so...)
Liv you have as many issues as this agent, don’t try and make her seem like she should open up to you lololol.
“you sure youre not just projecting?” THANK YOU
Thank fuck this gd maddie shit is finally done with. I am over it lol.
Liv's out here just adopting rescues from all sorts of different departments temporarily, this doesn’t make any sense.
Omg this OC flashback just made me so excited, all the amazing shit that happened last week LOL.
Literally thought that old man was mcgrath..
I'm sorry... if i find something in a *bathroom* garbage can, the last thing I'm doing is putting it in my *mouth*
Ayanna being all “gimmie!” about the stuffie is adorable. I may have to write some kind of fix it fic for her/this situation....
Okay that was lazy writing, Rita’s friend literally just basically repeated the exact same phrase twice...
“no gps to pull from a camera” that is a straight up fucking lie. Both my point and shoot and my dslr have gps...
This other tech guy working for them (ai guy?) he reminds me of kevin from crimi. Not sure if that’s just the over eager-second choice tech- guy vibes or if its something else...
I don’t trust this bitch. At all. She's gotta be in on it.
Hahahahaha elliot’s face when he walks in to jet and bobby in the room lol.
This hate crimes guy is growing on me.
Anyone else looking at the parallels of liv being hyperfocused on maddie and finding her, meanwhile elliot was so wrapped up with the Rita situation in the last season and now is so upset/lost about losing her...
AYANNA CUDDLING HER LIL STUFFIE AHHHH *soft*

[ID: The cover of "The Vulcan Academy Murders" by Jean Lorrah, followed by excerpts. The cover features Spock holding up a ray gun to a green amphibian alien. The excerpts are as follows:
1.
Kirk recalled that all male Vulcans were married had to be—and glanced at Spock. His First Officer however, was very busy inspecting the almost untouched wine in his glass. Lest Sarek take up the
2.
Kirk had been given Spock's room (underlined) and McCoy the guest room in Sarek's house---a house far from anything Kirk would ever have imagined as the home Spock had grown up in. He had envisioned either a sterile, unadorned "environment," or a castlelike ancestral residence. Instead, the house on the outskirts of ShiKhar was a single-family dwelling. The archi
3.
He remembered forcing Spock to control his emotions when he was five, and his schoolfellows tauntedhim for being "different." Under his father's tutelage, Spock had refused to cry when the others shut him out of their games, calling him "Earther" and " half-breed." Amanda had hidden her tears from their son, and Sarek had hidden his anger. Or had he? Perhaps I directed it at my son instead, he realized. He had intended to prepare Spock for whatever lack of acceptance he would face in life. And the message Spock received was that his own father did not accept him as he was, had to mold him into something he deemed acceptable.
4.
"A computer cannot lie," said Spock. "Nevertheless, this one is giving false information." "Why don't you try playing chess with it?" came a voice from the doorway. Sarek turned to find Leonard McCoy, bouncing on his toes and grinning.
5.
his eyes. "What dost thou know of Surak?" she asked finally—but her voice spoke more of perplexity than challenge. "What everyone knows: he was the founder of Vulcan philosophy. I know he is a personal hero to my friend Spock, the way Abraham Lincoln, from human history, is to me. That alone tells me he's worth
6.
"You are not only anything, Spock. You are more not less, because of your dual heritage. It is fruitless to wish now that I had made that clearer to you when you were a child." "You wanted me to be Vulcan." "That is true," Sarek agreed. "And you are Vulcan, representative of IDIC in its fullest sense." Spock studied his father. "You never put it to me that way. The last time you and I spoke as father and son, before I went to Star Fleet Academy, you reminded me of how important it was that I think of myself as Vulcan. Do you remember your words, Father?" Sarek remembered. "I am Vulcan by birth. Your mother is Vulcan by choice. You are Vulcan by both birth and choice." "And then I disappointed you by making a different choice." Sarek searched his memory, trying to recover the logical reasons for what now seemed completely irrational. Finally he said simply, "I was wrong."
7.
He went back to his room Spock's room, really. Kirk had brought with him a sturdy suit and boots. (Begin underline) Spock had suggested they might camp in the mountains after the summer eat abated. (End underline) He put on the boots and the trousers to the suit, but decided the heavy shirt would be far too hot, and chose a short-
8.
"He will recover, though?" asked Spock. "Yeah you can see him later, Spock," said the doctor. "He's gonna be in considerable pain—you're probably the only person he'll be able to stand. Your son would've made a good doctor," he added to Sarek. "I don't know how he does it, but he's really good with people in pain." Spock's eyebrows shot up at the unexpected compliment from the man Sarek usually saw him trade barbs with. Then Leonard left them to go back to his patient, and Spock turned to Sarek. "May I ask you something, Father?" "What is it, Spock?" "When Mother became conscious, you called her...?" "Beloved." End ID]
Finally making more progress on the pile of ST books I own but have yet to read. Here’s some good stuff from The Vulcan Academy Murders by Jean Lorrah.
First of all, what is going on with this cover? Nothing like this happens in the book.
Interesting interesting. 👀
This book is way too casual about Kirk sleeping in Spock’s childhood bedroom. Also, there’s no mention of where Spock is sleeping while they’re there???
We love reflecting on our past mistakes. 👏🏼 We love character growth. 👏🏼
I love them. I can picture this so perfectly.
Kirk will bring up Abe Lincoln whenever he has a chance. That’s canon now.
Yes! Let’s talk about our feelings! Let’s resolve those daddy issues!
Spock wanted to take them camping. 🥹
Spock being very concerned about Kirk’s injuries. Bones saying Spock is the only person Kirk would tolerate while in pain. Spock asking his father about expressing love for an outworlder. It’s a lot.
#CRAZY!! CRAZY!!!#star trek#star trek tos#star trek novels#described#described by me#op please add this id to the original post to make it more accessible! in plain text w/o a readmore :) make any edits necessary!#and lmk if i missed any typos!

Reggie- New Students
I walk through the lunch hall holding Reggie’s hand
“I promised Veronica and Archie I would help with the welcome table” Reggie groans “what?” I frown
“What do you mean what? those snakes came to Archie’s to attack him”
“Because he was on their turf and waved a gun in some of their faces” Reggie looks shocked “oh yeah I know about that thanks to Veronica”
“YN they’re bad news. You’ll get hurt because of one of them. They carry pocket knives”
“Reggie they are coming to our school your gonna have to get over it. Now I’ll see you later” I kiss Reggie’s cheek and walk off to find Veronica and Archie.
Once I find the couple I join them at the welcome table just in time for the Southside students to arrive
"Friends. On behalf of the students and faculty here at Riverdale High welcome to your new school. To ease this transition I've set up a registration desk where you can get your locker assignments, schedules and a list of sports and extracurriculars"
“V don’t be over the top” I whisper to her
“We encourage each and everyone of you to drink deeply from the cup that is fair riverdale"
“What did I say about being over the top. My apologies for her. Basically all she’s saying if your unsure about something don’t hesitate to ask”
"Stand down Eva Peron" I hear Cheryl shout making me groan. I turn around and see her waking down the stairs with Reggie
"Theres the school spirt I so fondly remember" I hear Jughead says to one of the girls he’s stood next to
"Cheryl no one invited fascists barbie to the party"
"Wrong Veronica. No one invited Southside scum to our school. Listen up ragamuffins. I will not allow Riverdale's Highs above average GPA to suffer because of classrooms overcrowded with underachievers so please find some other school to debase with your hardscrabble ways"
“Cheryl how do you know they’re as you call underachievers? they might actually be more cleaver than us. Just give them a chance”
“Babe that’s enough. Now come here”
“No, I’m not going to stand for this stupidity” I frown at Reggie
“YN it’s clear to see these snakes are just going to ruin this school. I mean just look at them” Cheryl points
"You wanna come over here and say that to my face?" a girl with pink/purple in her hair says stepping forward
"Happily queen of the buskers" Cheryl steps closer
"Ok guys. Everyone. Can we just put our Northside Southside differences apart and start over? A new slate"
"You don't speak for the bulldogs. And need I remind you these greaser snakes showed up at your place to kick your ass" Reggie comes forward and takes my wrist in his hand. I try to remove it
"You know what I think it's time to finish what we started" Sweet Pea says angry “and I don’t think your girlfriend wants your hand around her wrist like that so I suggest you let her go”
"I am so over the toxic masculinity in this hallway right now"
"Alright. Enough pomp and circumstance. Everyone let's get to class. Now" Principle Weatherbee comes over. Reggie looks irritated and Cheryl looks down at her shoes
“YN let’s go” I give the Southide students a sad smile before walking off with Reggie.
Later in the day I have a free period. I walk into the student lounge and see a small group of the Serpents and most of my friends. I sit down next to Kevin
"I don't think we've properly met. Veronica Lodge" she extends a hand to a girl
"From the park avenue Lodges" Jug says while eating. I roll my eyes at him, when is he not eating?
"Toni Topaz" the girl Toni shakes Veronicas hand
"Like the purple coloured gem stone. Love it"
"And I'm Josie McCoy formerly of the pussycats, now just Josie. And this is Kevin and YN"
"What's your name?" Kevin asks one of t he guys eating twizlers
"Fogarty or you can call me Fangs. Your last names Keller right?"
"Yeah how did you know that?"
"Joaquin and I used to hang out. He used to talk about you all the time"
“So YN why are you with that idiot Reggie?” Sweet Pea asks me
“Because he’s good to me. We’ve been dating for a few years now”
“Even when he scored you in the play book” Betty folds her arms
“And he said sorry”
“Oh because that fixes him rating your sex life”
“Archie he…” I’m then cut off by Principle Weatherbee
"You guys" we all look at him "yes you. Come with me. Now" I get up from my seat and follow everyone out of the room. I see Reggie stood with his arms crossed looking smug next to a snake symbol, the one that looks like the back of the Serpents jackets
"Which of you defaced our schools seal with this graffiti?"
"This is what they do Principal Weatherbee. They tag their turf" Reggie says
"My god Reggie could you be anymore transparent?" Reggie nods not really understanding what Veronica is saying
"Effective immediately no gang behaviour of any kind will be tolerated in my school. As of this moment no more Serpent jackets"
"What?" Sweet Pea shouts
"Are you kidding?" Jugs says
"No more Serpent jackets and all tattoos are to be covered. Possession of any gang paraphernalia will lead to immediate suspension. That's all" Principal Weatherbee walks away leaving Reggie looking smug. I walk up to him and glare at him
“Why?” I ask
“Because baby, they need to know their place”
“No, I think you need to know yours”

20th Episode Achieved! (Tomorrow Is Yesterday)
Here’s some thoughts:
- it’s a time travel episode, isn’t it?
- I think there could be a lot of “real UFO’s” because they’re just unidentified flying objects
- goddamnit Kirk what’ve you done, your in the atmosphere
- great Scott! They’re in the 60s!
- Kirk certainly hasn’t been briefed on what to do by the starfleet time agency
- “I’ve never believed in little green men” “neither have I.” SPOCK, you literally just saw a Gorn… also Orions
- Spock knows he’s scaring the shit outta this guy and he’s enjoying it
- why when the computer starts calling him dear does Kirk look to Spock like he did this (I’d believe it, I could totally hear him saying that)
- WAIT the computer system on all ships are made by a female dominated planet, that’s pretty cool
- Kirk not afraid to slap a bitch
- “Jim, what if we can’t go back?” Was delivered with such… je ne sais quoi
- (18:33) “Now you’re sounding like Spock.” “Well, if you’re gonna get nasty, I’m gonna leave.”
- “Could he be retrained to forget his family, his children.” “The answer to that is no.” Don’t worry they’re not making threats! They’re just having their regular chats on theoretical situations!
- “It’s just a joke, Captain.” Bones finding Spock’s joke funny
- Sulu looks so happy to be here
- McCoy pacing and worrying while Spock watches him and does his calculations
- THE BOYFRIENDS CONCUR! They’re both worried about Kirk and Sulu
- BOYS WE GOT ANOTHER ONE! Spock gives the new officer a look and then WALKS AWAY
- McCoy just takes the gun. BONES GOT A GUN
- Okay again, walking around in plain sight (yeah this isn’t sneaking at this point) is not an effective strategy for being unseen
- Kirk would eat the chemicals in a darkroom, you can’t convince me otherwise
- Kirk’s fighting strategy is straight up goofy
- I love Kirk and Sulu gaslighting the soldiers
- “hmm… Poor photography.” REALLY?!?
- “BLAST your theories and observations, Mr. Spock! What about, Jim? He’s down there alone, probably under arrest. He doesn’t have a communicator and we can’t beam him back aboard without one.” “I am aware of that, doctor.” I feel like they have this conversation every time. Like McCoy wants Jim to be safe and thinks that Spock is under reacting when Spock is just as worried but doesn’t think any outburst would be effective.
- “I popped in out of thin air.” He took that sass from Spock
- Spock worried Kirk punching someone hurt his hand
- yay they made it back!!!!
I’ve been a bit distracted while drawing for the past couple episodes but drawing Bones is worth it
Master list :D

im being an asshole here and these are gonna be shittly annonated more than described... for the sake of my fucking health lol. (mental and RSI lol) pls go look at my wifi reads mirage tag for better and more worth while comics blogging (lot of those are labours of love u know)
okay now to commence with the comic that hurt my brain. lets see. 5 issues? oh and only one i even kinda liked. uh oh
lemme do my due first.
ST vs TF No. 1: written john barber, mike johnson, art philip murphy
colours priscilla tramontano letters christa miesner edits chase marotz and david mariotte pub greg goldstien
No. 2: colours by leonardo ito and josh burcham No. 3: art by jack lawrence. colours by burcham No. 4&5: art by murphy
(its a name and shame as much as its giving credit >_>)
what i want from my tf st crossover comic:
like. 1. mccoy aphorism (also... may i?) 2. brilliant. perfect. spock saying illogical and optimus prime in the same sentence. no notes.
. 1. mccoy called her MAAM. ghbfdjhg. see. im saying. if u gonna do a sexist thing. at least put an old southern man it using his manners <3 only time i really enjoyed a woman being on screen im afraid. 2. they turned the enterprise into a big robot. yaaaaay.
kirk says. prime directive. oppie says. PRIME's directive. hearty chucky. great.
a note here u can see that this is a g1 and tas crossover. i have no familarity with tas actually (is that shocking i wonder. 70s cartoons i know less of, in fact) so like idk maybe theres some stuff i dont like cause its actually a reference or smth. lol. THE INCLUSION OF. tf stuff thats clearly not aligned with actual g1 cartoon visually or thematically tho.... i have my doubts. sucks </3
(see that those first four were by lawarence, which i like. and the next two by murphy, which i dont tho those arent particularly bad showings)
the things i did not really want but knew i was gonna get anyway 'dammit im a doctor not an x' 'more than meets the eye' <- TOO MANY TIMES. talk about blowing ur load. and not even in a fun way.
but there were things ill always like too see. like speaking of blowing ur load.
.1. megop menacing each other. gayass. 2. megs unloading a fusion blast into prime. rearrange his GUTS!!!!
.1. megs looming and threatening. oppie on the ground. you wanted to do WHAT on cybertron? 2. they are grappling each other. hehe hold hands.
and screamer:
megs riding inside screamers cockpit in gun mode. hey thats two the phallic things for the price of one.
yes girl go do ur crazy shit i know how it goes lol.
screamer is refering to the klingons in both cases. 2. hey like. why u phrase it like that (microagression)(gay as hell)
.1. lawrence screamer. my tiny wife (so small. drawn so good. i cant explain it) 2. lawrence megs. hes handsome :) (whats with the moment of victory line tho)
MOM! you never take MY side. thats a lot of judgement for not having a face soundwave
screamer menacing the klingons. hes crushed many high councils and fuck the government.
WAIT. BASED STARSCREAM. SAY THAT SHIT. also thats just a classic g1 screamer face ill give u that murphy. thats him throwing megs out the air lock type shit.
now why exactly this comic thought i would care more about like. tos klingons (sure one of the enemy factions but not particularly. like... ICONIC?) than the decepticons. like.... idk obviously the decepticons cant win but why can the klingons get a win over them u know? like idk... tos klingons are whatever. g1 cons. thats. those are my guys?????
but hey at least they put megatron in bondage
like. oh for me? thigh restrains.... why u shouldnt have..... i am barking at this image even if i think his arms are wrong? cant quite place it. cursed my dick etc.
OKAY. now heres some concern points. women.
woman decepticon (who looks weird btw) grabbing kirk and shes 'not his type'. BAD.
and yes instead of the fair superior make some of the seekers girls method. THATS AIRARCNID for some fucking reason. and she still has that stupid fucking steath helicopter alt instead of. oh idk ANYTHING that would look normal next to g1 vehicles. even windblade looks better in alt mode. where the FUCK IS SKYWARP (girl version <3)
screamer calling her airachnid (also this comp reference straight from the g1 s1 intro)
utube screenshot. same pose, different character positions
TC, screamer and soundwave posing up. the the lady con crammed behind them. me when i definitely remembered to block the woman into my pencils (this is the artist i like. CHRIST) (also cause im definitely working from a thumbnailed layout and not just comping in all these crisp jpegs like... however)<- more the other guy
sulu 'flying' wind blade. she tells him to back off. the amount of things i dont like about this image...... do i even need to say em? WHO LET IT HAPPENED
acree grabs ravage. (kitty) to protect mech version of mress (cat alien). why the fuck does robot mress look cooler than arcee thats sad (though that arm...... )
also now that i think about... i dont think i ever saw arcees alt... this is g1... she literally has one whats ur fucking problem. comic from 2018. shes had one since 1986. no one is asking u to prove the transformation scheme WORKS.
THE JAZZ ISSUE.
group posing of autobots. acree looks bad next to earth alt mode bots as always. wind blade looks bad just ingeneral as always. ratchet and bees faces look.... not great. jazz looks fine but hes yelling about not wanting to see humans.
so like..... theres this thing...... ive seen this guys comics wiki page and theirs a lot of jokes about him shooting humans. why does jazz hate humans? (like. i know. at least one comic i guess? multiple? unsure. went has far as. HE HAD TO SHOOT A COP. to save someones life. which. which. sure. thats. a commentary. probably. what is GOING ON in there) anway. i think including whatever stupid fucking baggage u gave him into. THE SILLY HAHA 70s and 80s CARTOON CROSSOVER. IS DUMB. hey jazz is really agressive and hates humans now. NO ONE SEES THE PROBLEM THERE? IS I THIS THING ON?
and then they still had him do some nominally g1 jazz like dialogue (i cannot speak to the authenticity of his use of jive slang uh... ever? but at least in the cartoon it was being said by scatman crothers?) anyway. really weird. bad tonally. jazz is my fucking friend he LIKES humans. thats the whole fucking.... THING. what the hell.
also combining it with even having to just. SEE windblade. eh yeah well. you know.
FINALLY. the art. i actually dont want to spend too long just specifically belabouring the bad art. i mean 1. cause i dont want to screenshot a bunch of bad art. two cause yeah its kinda mean. 3. im not actually sure i can explain it in a way that wont make me sound crazy. i hate when i start getting the really niche tf opinions like this.
but like. yeah the comp isnt very good. like artistically and also literally whatever way they were getting all the characters into the same scenes. not great like. perspective or sense of place which.... kinda need that one. in this specific case.... weird errors that stood out too. some awkward paneling too....
but mainly yeah i found the way murphy drew the g1s like... really off putting. as soon as i got to no. 3 i was literally just so relieved i scrolled the whole thing without reading it first just to. look. and then that was the only one </3
just something like no no this way of drawing the blocks ISNT GOOD. kibble looks wrong. etc. and then also. g1 characters just. dont move in certain ways okay. in the arms and stuff... i know it when i see it. (smh at myself) whatever.
in essence and most important i guess. it didnt often charm me. for shame.
but may i present
optical illusion acid storm. damn i guess they really must be a non binary icon cause i cant fucking figure out what angle thats supposes to be. (<- unclear what i mean by that)(actually i think this is nifty more that bad like. it genuinely is tricking my eyes)
worst fucking splash page ive seen in my life
the decepticons coming in to kick starscreams ass. all just kinda pasted together without much scale, composition, values. etc. note rumbles (purple guy, bottom right) missing head (like yeah hes mid transform but.... it looks dumb. what was gained drawing him this way) and trypticon (that big robot dinosaur you may notice just kinda. in the background layer) lines being way larger. as if it was just. select transformed to be big enough for this. it actually haunted me cause it looked so much like default art or smth. not that i could find tho. BUT HEY! skywarp. (top left corner)
like idk boss it looks like ass. if i saw this printed out and slid into some kids binder id be like. oh wow bud thats awesome! you like the decepticons? me too! did you edit this other your self? thats cool!!!
in conclusion
girl boss cover (screen cuts to black but u can hear me muffled but loud and agonized "nurse chaple wasnt even IN-)
okay im gonna need to be a hater in peace here
#some shit#its not called cisformers#wifi suffers cisformers#<- I SHOULD NOT. I should not#NOT AN. extremely promising first foray i must say...... not great portend. omen. u might say.#wifi reads cisformers#<- just in case. fine. whatver#tf idw placeholder tag#<- GOOFY. oh well

I flew the most secret MiG fighter in the world for the US Air Force: Red Eagle pilot gives the low-down on America’s MiG-21 ‘Fishbed’

Take My Hand (Part One)
Summary: a secret relationship was enough, being with rafael was enough. and it was. until it wasn’t (one of three parts)
Pairings: Rafael Barba x Reader, Sonny Carisi x Reader (more in next parts)
Word Count: 3,417
Song: I'm begging for you to take my hand / Wreck my plans, that's my man (willow by taylor swift)
Warnings: T, implied sex, some sexual situations (but just kissing and touching, nothing explicit), fwb relationship essentially, rafael’s commitment issues,
A/N: thank you to @bucky-of-the-opera and @qvid-pro-qvo for letting me bounce ideas off and not annoy you (hopefully) with my incessant obsession with this mini-series.
“Barba, it’s time to go home,” the illustrious A.D.A. didn’t bother to look up from your brief he was revising, the margins bloodied with red ink and edits, as you watched, pressed against his doorframe, “you can tear my work to shreds tomorrow.”
“Since when did you become my keeper?” he murmurs, his brow wrinkled much like the carpet that lined his floor —- and the rest of his office wasn’t much better — dimmed and dark much like the bags under his eyes, takeout containers from Forlini’s stacked in his trash can, printed briefs and case files stacked like a wall around the perimeter of his desk, some even stacked up on the larger conference table, a few scattered on the floor.
“Oh it was in the job description,” you step forward, picking up the files that had jumped ship, likely to escape your boss, “assistant district attorney needed to assure SVU’s lead ADA is not found buried in an avalanche of cases that decided to take their revenge.”
He snorts, still flipping pages through the memo, his tie loosened around his neck, sleeves pushed up to reveal his forearms, “I didn’t know you were a comedian before law school,”
And for once you’re grateful that he doesn’t bother to look up — it means he doesn’t notice your eyes lingering on his forearms, “There’s a lot you don’t know about me, Barba,”
And you expect a biting response, a quick retort, but instead you get honest reply, “Well I’d like to, if you’d let me,” you blink a moment, as he glances up for a moment, his look nearly earnest, “you know you do have a habit of keeping people at arm’s length.”
“This isn’t about me,” and he smiles, looking back down at his work.
“And the deflection begins,” you huff, scowling at him, though he still paid no mind.
“Well my office doesn’t look like the aftermath of a legal aid implosion, and I’ve actually been sleeping 6 hours a night, can you say the same?”
He frowns, lips pursed, “I can take care of myself,”
“Clearly,” you crossed your arms, straightening the rug with the heel of your shoe, rounding his desk, “this case was impossible today, it will be impossible tomorrow.”
“Well maybe if I worked a little harder it wouldn’t be so impossible, maybe we’d even get a little justice,” he sighs, lips pressed to the knuckles of his fist.
You tilt your head, “You know this system is not always getting justice — sometimes it’s just about closure, and that’s all we can do sometimes.”
“I want to do more— I—” he breaks off, knuckles white against clutching his pen, “I knew the system was full of grays, I know but—”
“It’s different when it’s SVU, I know, but,” your fingers reach for his tentatively, easing the pen from his fingers, “you can only do what the system lets you — it’s not our job to legislate — it’s our jobs to advocate, to let the people’s voice be heard in court. But you can’t do that if you work yourself right into the ground.”
“I know, I just—”
“Barba, you know there’s no point of self-flagellating, no matter how tempting it might be,”
He lets out a bitter chuckle, “It’s one of my many talents,” before rubbing his hands up and down his face, as if that would erase the exhaustion pressed upon his shoulders.
“Oh I know,” you say with a sigh, “but you have other talents, don’t you?” and he finally looks up at you — most times you didn’t know what to make of his looks — sometimes it was easy — amusement when the defense counsel tripped up or frustration when the detectives kept pressing him to take the case further when it already sprung a leak — but other times it was a glimmer, a hint at something you could barely grasp onto before it disappeared between your fingers. But now, it lingered, his gaze raked over you until it left your skin blaringly raw under his steady look.
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” and now, you barely remember to breathe, the air sucked from the room, instead replaced with a heat — thicker as it settles, but still he sends shivers down your spine, your eyes barely flickering over his lips.
“I do,” the words falling from your lips, a rushed, thoughtless whisper.
His eyes molten, he leans forward, he mutters your name, barely a whisper — an ask for permission, as his palm dares to rest on your cheek, carefully, as if you would recoil from his touch — but you didn’t. You leaned into his palm, basking in his affection.
His hand slips down, thumb brushing your lips and then resting on your chin, tilting it downwards, “Are you sure you want to know me this well?” he asks, as you lean forward, your backside pressed against the edge of his desk.
“I do, if you’ll let me,” his breath warms your lips, “Rafael,” you whisper right before his lips brush yours.
It’s chaste at first, tentative and gentle, but when your fingers find purchase on the back of his neck, you chase his lips. You taste coffee — bitter and rich, as rich as the passion and urgency of his kisses. Soon he’s standing, and you’re sitting at the edge of the desk, his body between your legs. His hands trail down your body, and his lips follow — pressing fervent kisses to your neck. And your hand grasps at the edge of his to keep yourself steady, the other on his shoulder, digging into his crisp button down.
“Someone could walk in,” you gasp, hissing as his teeth gently graze your neck, “Raf—”
He pauses, leaning back, “You’re right,” and you bite your lip, as he steps back, grabbing his jacket, glancing between you and the door, “it’s late, we should—”
“Right,” your face burns, you round the desk towards the door, fuck, what if he thinks this is a huge mistake? What if he doesn’t—
He grabs you by the wrist gently, smiling as he brushes past you, holding his office door open for you, “Your place or mine?”
“You have to make our case, counselors, so what are you going to do about it?” Liv crossed her arms, looking between you and Rafael.
“We need more evidence Liv, there’s no way around it,” you sigh, “we go in guns ablazing and odds are we don’t get it because a) he destroys it, or b) fruit of the poisonous tree. He’s smart and his lawyers are smart, we need this by the book.”
“I agree, we need more — have you managed to get into contact with his ex-wife?”
“Only many unreturned phone calls,” Amanda shakes her head, “I’ll try again, but she retired to Florida—”
“Do one better, fly down there and talk to her,” Rafael replied, sliding the divorce proceedings across the table, “I think she may be the key to our case, and the warrants we need.”
Rafael walks them to the elevator, chatting about the case, as you glance at the stacks of motions you needed to get through still. The door clicking shut behind him, he slides next to you, as you slink down, sighing, “Thanks for backing me up on the case,”
“Of course,” he replies, “we need more evidence — taking a half baked case against someone like Rita? It’s like begging to be ripped apart in front of an audience.”
“Well, I know you dabble in masochism,” and he shot you a glare, his thigh pressed against your own, “How long do we have before you think we’ll have a case?”
“A while — it will take them some time to get down to Florida and get something usable,” he flipped through more packets, before tossing them flippantly onto the coffee table, leaning back, his eyes flickering to the door, and he leans over, pressing a chaste kiss to your lips, “which gives us more time to ourselves.”
“Rafael—” he swallowed your protests with a kiss, and it was enough for your worries to fall away — he was enough to make everything fall away for you, your eyes flickered to the door, “the door—” “I locked it,” the words reverberate against your skin, “I wouldn’t be so careless, counselor,” his use of your title sent a shiver down your spine, “now are you going to let me take you home?”
It had been a few weeks of this — sneaking kisses in between work, stolen glances across rooms, small smiles that quickly melted away under another's look, and many nights spent in the other's arms — but still you didn't know what this was.
"Let's go," you smiled, pressing a teasing kiss to the corner of his mouth.
But you didn't care.
As the two of you stepped into the elevator, his hand brushed yours, because you didn't want to lose it.
"Yes sir, I understand. I'll be there," your eyes flicker up to see Rafael standing in the doorway, "okay goodbye."
"Was that McCoy—"
"Chewing me out for not attending yet another gala, unfortunately yes, and it looks like I'm being shanghaied into attending," you shake your head, groaning, "doesn't he have better things to do than force me to schmooze with the affluent and influential?"
"So close to his re-election? No," he sits down, checking his phone, "he needs to have his best and brightest there, and that's why he wants us there."
"'Us?'" the corner of his lip tilts upwards.
"You're not the only one who got an irate phone call," he locks his phone, tucking it away, "we should both leave the office early so we can arrive on time,"
You check the time, cursing, "I have to get my outfit dry cleaned, but I have to write a motion—"
"I can do it— my suit is ready and I told Liv I wouldn't pick her up until closer to the start—"
You blink, your chest squeezing, "Liv?"
He frowns, "Yeah I'm taking her tonight — as a favor — there's a case—"
You waved him off, “You don’t have to explain, it’s fine,” you grab your coat and your bag, “I should go now and drop off my clothes—”
He says your name, “You know I would want to go with you if we didn’t—”
If you didn’t work together, if your hypocrite of a boss didn’t have a chip on his shoulder for workplace relationships— “I know,” you reply, offering a small smile, if this was something more than what you knew it was— “I’ll see you tonight.”
But it wasn’t.
This was a nightmare.
Truly.
Forced to attend a gala alone with people you didn’t know very well, stuck in the corner by the bar, forced to watch the one person you wanted be with someone else. But you didn’t want to want him — you downed your drink, asking for a refill — the alcohol wasn’t the only thing bitter on your lips.
“Glad to see you could make it, counselor,” Jack McCoy greeted you with a grin, offering you his hand in a firm handshake, “you look lovely.”
“Well, my boss didn’t give me much of a choice,” you purse your lips, “something about my future at the District Attorney’s office and if I wished to have his support,”
He chuckles, ordering his drink from the bartender (“a scotch, neat”), “I sense good things in your future. You have been a great addition to SVU — you challenge the detectives to bring better cases and you’re giving Barba a run for his money.”
You spotted Rafael out of the corner of your eye, Liv on his arm, and you glanced away, sipping at your drink, tucking away your frustration behind a mask of boredom— “I suppose I am,” —albeit, maybe not fast enough.
McCoy followed your gaze. He doesn’t say anything, instead offering his hand to you, “May I have this dance?” you raised an eyebrow, leaning against the bar.
“You’re not trying to make me one of your famous work affairs, are you, Jack?” and he laughs, shaking his head, tilting his head.
“I think I know better than that, counselor,” your eyes find Rafael again — dancing with Liv, quietly talking, and you take Jack’s hand.
“I’d love to,” you follow him onto the dance floor, his hands resting respectfully above your waist just a new song began, “I should warn you I’m not the best dancer,”
“Just follow my lead,” he assured you, a smile playing on his lips, “and if you step on my feet, well I’ll have a good case for assault.”
You rolled your eyes, before pursing your lips, “What’s this about, Jack?”
“What do you mean?” it’s your turn to tilt your head, your arms resting on his shoulders, “I just wanted to say, I’ve been down that road before,” he spares a discreet glance at Rafael, “and it never ends well.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you keep your voice steady and confused, but Jack only raises an eyebrow, “There’s nothing going on—”
“A whole of lot of nothing is what I’m worried about,” He kept the friendly smile, “I’ve done this enough times to know when nothing is actually nothing — and I know the look you had wasn’t nothing—”
“Jack—”
“I’m not speaking to you as your boss, for now,” his words were careful, a sharp edge of warning that slid harmlessly across your cheek, but you knew it wouldn’t again, “but I don’t want to see you hurt.”
“I don’t want to either, but I know what I’m doing,” and Jack nods.
“I know you do, and I’m not telling you how to live your life, but-- “ he shakes his head, “you deserve better than someone who hides you — take it from an old man who lost someone they loved when they were too busy hiding them.”
You frown, “I—” and you felt a tap on your shoulder, Rafael standing between you two.
“May I cut in?” he offers Jack a smile, who steps back.
“Remember what I said, counselor,” Jack shakes Rafael’s hand, keeping his eyes on you, “a bright future.”
A slow waltz begins to play, and he grins at you, “Are you going to keep me waiting?”
“What about Liv?” he jerks his head and you see her dancing with that attorney, Trevor Langan.
“She’s busy, and she’s not the one I want to dance with,” and his smile falters, raising his eyebrows, “unless you don’t want to—”
You deserve more, Jack’s words echo in your ears, and you wanted more — you wanted him, more than you wanted to admit — more than he wanted you to want him.
“Of course I do,” you take his hand, a soft smile on his lips, his palm warm against your back, pulling you close.
“You look so amazing,” he remarks, murmuring in your ear, his dulcet tones sending a shiver down your spine, “I couldn’t take my eyes off of you.”
“Really?” his fingers tilt your chin up to meet his gaze.
“Yes, because I couldn’t stop thinking about what I wanted to take off,” his voice liquid heat, and your breath stuttered in your chest — his hands on your body were no longer enough, “what do you do to me, mi amor?”
“I could say the same to you,” you mutter, as he tugs you a little closer, blurring the line between professional and personal, “Do you think it’s a good idea that we’re dancing this close?”
“What do you mean?” and you look around, scanning for any sight of Jack.
“Our jobs — people could talk,” and he just shrugs, emerald eyes shining, as his lips quirk upward, as he dips you, pulling you back up with ease — the same ease he did everything with — the same ease he always put you at.
“Then let them.”
And you bite your lip, a small smile on your lips. Maybe this was enough. You knew what you were doing. You glance at Jack, who now stands at the bar, his brow wrinkled.
Right?
“Rafael,” you can’t catch your breath with him, his lips insistent and plying, as he presses you into the soft cushions of the mattress, “we have motions in—” you gasp as he sucks your skin above your pulse, “an hour and half.”
But really you didn’t care about the motions — you didn’t care about being late —- you wanted to talk to him, about you — about the both of you — but he didn’t want to talk.
“That means we have at least half an hour,” his hands squeezed your hips, and your body responded in kind, head tilting back, exposing your neck for his lips, “that means I can do what i was planning to do more than once.”
“You’re awfully confident,” you sigh, your fingers knotted in his soft hairs at the base of his neck, and he presses a kiss right between your collarbone, his lips smiling against you.
“I have an impressive track record, no?” he grins, “I don’t recall you complaining last night,” you rolled your eyes, tugging him higher, so his hair brushed your forehead.
“You do, so much so that,” and you wonder if he can feel your heart pounding against your chest, “I wanted to talk to you about something.”
He raises an eyebrow, pressing a kiss to your lips, “What about?”
“What are we doing, Raf?” the words leave your mouth in a whisper — a single, gentle step onto a frozen lake, waiting for the ice to give way beneath you, “what is this to you?”
He hesitates — the first crack resonates through the still morning, “I don’t know, what is it to you? What do you want?”
I want more than just this, I want to be able to take you to galas, to kiss you outside of dark corners and corner booths— “I don’t know either—”
“Then let’s not waste time by defining it,” his hand cups your cheek — the cracks splintered under your feet, the water erupting from the fissures, “Mi amor, I’ve had relationships before, I’ve seen them fall apart, I’ve watched people who love each other hurt each other, over and over again. I don’t want to do that to you,” he sighs, “I don’t want to lose you.”
“I don’t want to either, but don’t you want more than this?” He holds your face in his hands, his thumbs brushing the length of your cheeks.
“I just need you — no more, no less than just this,” Rafael presses a kiss to your palm, “can we keep it this way for a little longer?”
You deserve more. You want more. You need more.
He says your name again, and you offer a small smile, as you sink beneath the emerald colored water of his eyes.
“Of course, Raf.”
There’s a knock at your office, and you glance over at the call of your name, “Hey, I’m from SVU, I’m looking for Barba,” his lanky figure is standing in your doorframe, his dirty blond hair slicked back, “I’m here to pick up a—”
“A warrant?” you nod, rifling through your files, “I got it right here for you, Detective…?”
He offers a hand, “Dominick Carisi, but you can call me Sonny,” you shake his outstretched hand, “You’re Barba’s number two, right? I heard about you from the squad.”
“Not how I’d like to be remembered, but essentially yes,” you shrug, before handing him the warrant, “just make sure to keep your search restricted to the places in that warrant and catalog everything properly— we don’t need to need to deal any issues—”
“Chain of custody, yeah I know. I’m actually in law school right now,” he adds, “Fordham.”
“That’s a great school,” you raise your eyebrows, “I’m sure it’s tough balancing it with your work as a detective — I barely survived my first year and that was without a full time job.”
“Well, what can I say, I’m determined,” he nods, holding up the warrant, “it was nice meeting you, counselor.”
“You too, Detective Carisi—”
“I told ya, call me Sonny,” he smiles from the doorway, and you chuckle, a warm smile blooming on your face.
“Only if you call me by my name too, Sonny.”
