think about: a mage summons a nature spirit, a demigod of earth and life, in a ritual to gain power. the mage breeds the spirit in the center of the magic circle; it's part of the binding spell. every new moon, the mage resummons the spirit to renew the spell and draw more power from the spirit; every time, the spirit is bigger, riper. the vines twining around its body bud and blossom; its color and scent are heightened: the green of new life, the smell of the forest. it appears in the circle again, hips wide at the culmination of plumpening thighs, the cradle of its ever-swelling belly, grown heavy and rosy like ripening fruit, tender foliage wreathing its perfumed sex. the mage feels a heady rush. power? mustn't it be the intoxicant, power, drawn from this transformed spirit grown full with magic and life at the mage's whim, in their service?

imagine the mage, feeling more pleased and confident with each invocation of the spell, and each moon the spirit appears-- rounder, heavier-- and hides its smile. it is a spirit of life, whose power grows with the life within it. it's power has only grown, while the mage's mastery has diminished, dulled by hubris and a haze of lust. until one day, the spirit responds to its summoner, vast in its majesty, bigger than pregnancy has ever made any gravid mortal, and... gently... *steps*... over the edge of the magic circle.

imagine the realization on the face of the mage as the spirit's wide shadow crosses it, their thoughts racing-- when did they lose control? did they ever have the upper hand at all? imagine the spirit advancing with slow, heavy steps, no longer hiding its smile. it reaches out a hand, no real chance of brushing its fingers against the cowering summoner, no past the swollen curve of its belly (nearly ripe, nearly ready!), but it's vines have already crept throughout the cramped little room. the little mage is frozen, looking up in wonder and terror, and does not yet realize they are surrounded, with no way out,
