Last night was @cobramestate #DistanceDinner to support @foodbankaus and Australians that are currently experiencing food insecurity. : On any normal day in Australia 5% of our population experiences food insecurity if you are unemployed or have a low income or are on the pension this number increases significantly to 23% and 20% respectively. : Food security is defined as "access by all people at all times to enough food for an active, healthy life" (Radimer, 2002) : Food Insecurity has three main components 1️⃣Food access: the ability to obtain and eat a nutritious diet 2️⃣Food availability: the supply of food in the community. 3️⃣Food use: having basic nutrition knowledge to appropriately prepare and cook food. : There are three levels 1️⃣Secure 2️⃣Insecure without hunger 3️⃣Insecure with extreme hunger : The current COVID-19 pandemic has left thousands of people unemployed with very long waits for government assistance which will increase food insecurity in our community. It has also seen the supermarket shelves stripped bare from panic buying. This majorly disadvantages people who shop on a budget or who can only afford to purchase the more affordable products. : If you have food in your cupboard and know where you next meal is coming from stop and appreciate that for a minute because there are many people who are not that privileged. (KCL) will be moving its operations to a new facility located in Pickering, Ontario, by the end of 2019. As part of KCL's ongoing commitment to deliver high-quality products and top-tier customer service, the new facility will be designed to house its Head Office and Warehouse operations. KCL has continuously operated in Canada from Markham, Ontario, since 1975, and this project marks a new opportunity for the brand.

“In Canada, the construction, agriculture, commercial and residential sectors are all highly competitive markets, which gives us the motivation to strengthen our leadership among Canadian customers and dealers. It had become obvious that we needed a new state-of-the-art facility to ensure we could live up to our commitments to meet the increasing needs of our growing customer base,” said Bob Hickey, President of KCL. “We are very thankful for the trust our dealers and customers place in our products and services.”

The new Pickering facility in numbers

Surface area: 565,500 square feet (sf), with the possibility of increasing to 1,000,000 sf in the future

Financial investment: approximatively 67 million CAD for the land and building

Employment: KCL plans to grow employment from 190 current employees to 250 employees by 2027

Timeline:

Fall 2018: Construction expected to begin

End of 2019: KCL starts moving its offices to its new location in 2 phases
