Work anecdote I've talked a bit about before, but feel a little more comfortable talking about in more detail now that I'm not working that job and not in that city anymore.
When I was living in Seattle I was working a retail job where the majority of the staff under 30 was queer - mostly nonbinary - and the majority of the staff over 30 was cishet - mostly married women in their 40's + 50's as second household incomes - just to sort of paint the picture of my workplace environment. We only had one cis guy on the staff who wasn't the manager and he was less than a year younger than me (26).
Our one cis guy was the most recent full time hire for awhile, and he got paid more than all of us, starting wage. My coworker who was the longest standing employee at our location - but was nonbinary, more fem presenting, and alternative - got paid less than him. My coworker and I had the same wage after we both got raises. My manager liked me enough that I jumped a few raises to get paid as much as them.
Professionally I was relatively binary presenting + gender conforming at the time - though I was open about being trans and it was always more in a "I could pass as cis queer on a good day" and "People who know what trans people look like can clock me" way. Having a very "traditionally masculine name" and he/him pronouns is definitely a safety measure, but it only does so much when you're out, kind of clocky, and unwilling to fully compromise queer self expression.
Which is all to say - shit like this is complicated. I got paid less than the newer cis guy, the same as my fellow senior staff nonbinary coworker / other full time staff, and more than my coworkers who were my juniors and/or part time. My masculinity + work ethic carried me into my managers good graces and a raise - but not enough to be on the level as the cis man. Literally. He got hired before my raise.
Gender dynamics like this are almost never going to be clean and cut and dry but queer folks - especially openly queer folks - are almost always all going to be ostracized in some capacity in the workplace like this. And we all talked about it together, because even if it impacted us all differently it still impacted us all and that much was obvious enough to us to advocate for each other. It was a moment of solidarity not division.

It was Maid Day today yesterday a week ago so I got struck by inspiration to draw the worsties, and it ran away from me into a whole AU where they’re coworkers at a maid cafe.
She’s a med student & this is just a part time job, and this is his depression job while he gets his life back together. He needs something he can be workaholic about to forget what it’s like having a personal life and personal issues. He’s actually the accountant, but the new hire janitor (Izutsumi) doesn’t show up for half her shifts and is a sloppy worker, so he gets the extra work of doing her job on top of his because he’s undervalued and overworked. Of course, janitors also have an uniform to keep the aesthetic cohesion as they go about cleaning the place, of course.
Senshi’s the part time cook you only see slivers off, he’s kind and warm when you do see him and have a chat but most shifts he’s in and out the kitchen without a trace. Laios and Falin are regulars because Falin and Marcille are besties & in the same med school, Laios accompanies Falin as she visits her friend at work and gets hooked on the food. Chilchuck has to remind Marcille to work instead of chatting with Falin for an hour, and next thing he knows she’s distracting him from work too.
That’s it that’s the AU. Inspired by this idol AU fanart a bit <3
This was not meant to be birthday gift but well…… Happy bday Chil!!!

Oooooooh your monster au looks fun!! And aaah the art! Ghost boy Riddle looks cute as a button, Vil looking gorgeous and elegant with the horns and crown, and Malleus!!! I love how it looks like he has moss growing on over him, those charming carved eyes, and the jewelry in the one art piece adds to his whole vibe~
Does gargoyle/dragon boy want to make the MC part of his hoard? Cause I can see him locking the doors to a decrepit palace he’s taken up residency in and swallowing the key to keep them from running.
Rollo I don’t even think your warning letter would have saved them, hell hath no fury like a possessive, lovestruck monster.
AHHH thank you ( ˘ ³˘)♥︎!! I’m glad you enjoyed them. I’ve actually been doodling more Monster!Twst (Not as a main thing cuz I’m trying to focus on writing the story) because I personally think my style has changed and I wanted to see what they would look like now!
And for the Malleus portion… Let's just say there is locking up and there is an old decrepit castle :). Alas, poor Rollo is subjected to zoning out in the middle of a job worrying over Reader, while they’re locked up wondering what their favorite cafe is serving as deserts (And how to murder their captors but details details)
