Tr*mp’s foreign policy on Canada has been genuinely insane recently like WHO is advising this man. Is anyone advising this man. Referring to another sovereign nation as a state of your own as a clear dismissive statement that could be interpreted as a statement of intent is perhaps the stupidest foreign relations thing you could DO. And yet. And yet.

i reblogged a post where someone decide if trump died america would suddenly be "cured" and china would "back off taiwan" and "russia would fall to ukraine" and like ya'll gotta fucking stop that shit. you guys truly have to stop this liberal nonsense. the fact that person thought all these "ills" would be cured by trump dying is fucking ridiculous but also the fact the genocide of palestinians wasnt even a consideration needs to start clicking with people.
Why would they think so much about this mythical taiwan invasion that hasnt fucking happened, and a war america has been pushing to start for literal decades(not singular since i was a fucking child), but the mass murder of palestinians, and congolese people didnt even come up? or the mass displacement of sudanese people?
whats the link there? would you like to hazard a guess?
its shit america fucking wants! trump biden, fbi, cia, up and down the whole system. stop fucking uplifting the rabid fucking imperialist.
STOP DOING AMERICAN PROPAGANDA FOR FUCKING FREE
trump is literally only evil to you guys because he has no decorum nothing else, biden has his fucking platform you absolute ghouls.

Whether algorithmically created (like tiktok, youtube, instagram, etc) or manufactured manually (like tumblr or 4chan), the inescapable nature of online echo chambers and their consequences terrifies and depresses me

People are posting screenshots of the most naive possible conversations on Rednote and claiming it's a moment of great cultural exchange and learning. Look, if you have truly managed to exist online without ever talking to someone from another country before I guess that must be exciting, but good lord do not take "some netizens told me there are no sweatshops" as serious evidence for anything. This would be true even talking to someone from a country with press and media freedom, which, I guess needs to be said, is absolutely not the case in the PRC.

honestly i think some of the posts abt american teens and 20somethings moving to red note are kind of missing the point bc like the ppl who are going to red note are not like tumblr users raised in progressive communist circles and in fact have never had their preconceptions of china that theyve learned from media and culture questioned outside of maybe watching a chinese romantic drama show or whatever. like seeing posts that are like "we've been telling you guys about the misinformation spread about china the whole time" no you havent bc these ppl have never and will never see yr blogs or even see tumblr posts off of tiktok and instagram, the ppl impacted by this change are the ones who use tiktok to keep up w friends and celebrities and like to be entertained by hauls not faux progressives who sometimes accidentally learn things while bickering back and forth about politics they barely understand on a slowly dying microblogging website thats only real use in any sort of organizing seems to be the ability to spread fundraisers and even that is limited considering this site isnt exactly popular with the rich and powerful.

every time jun has gone back to China for activities I become more and more done with XCSS (Pledis China)... it's so clear they're incompetent and don't understand how the Chinese entertainment industry works 🙃
#either that and/or theyre deliberately sabatoging jun#which like... i do abide by the whole 'dont attribute to malice what you could attribute to incompetence' thing#but also at this point its ridiculous...#a very summarized version is that in china its very common practice for companies to collaborate directly with official fanbases#so fanbases can organize events and provide promotion and support etc.#like its hard to explain but fanbases are more official organizations that are an important part of the entertainment industry#its basically a job for some people#but xcss/pledis has not been properly communicating with juns fanbases (jfortepiano and jun bar)#and its been causing a lot of issues#theyre also not following certain social media conventions for events apparently#all of which is hurting the promotion of juns acting activities#its also not a good look when every other actor has this fan support and jun either doesnt have any or has last minute stuff put together#bc the fanbases were not given proper notice/communication from the company#also im saying this as someone who has actually defended pledis (korea) for many things so like#yall know i wouldnt be complaining about this if it was just a small thing or there was some other explanation for it#the best explanation is that theyre incompetent and are treating c-ent like its k-ent when its not#but after all these years shouldnt they have learned by now and hired people who know what theyre doing??#might delete this but i needed to rant#its also frustrating when so called carats insult jun for doing solo activities and act like he thinks hes above svt#when hes not even getting proper support for his solo activities from the company 🙃#like no babes i promise this is not easier for him 😭#also i have to wonder what the xcss employees even do most of the time...#as far as i know they dont have any artists that promote solely in korea so jun and minghao should be their main priotities right???#but they seem to do jack shit whether chinaline is in korea or back in china to promote stuff#like not even the bare minimum half the time#ugh anyway#melia.txt

Okay, one last post about Netflix's 3 Body Problem. I literally moved on (as in, I didn't bother finishing it), but today I saw a post on *** and some Chinese American saying the Ye Zhetai scene is the representation we need blah blah blah China could never. What triggered me the most about this is that the closest thing this person is to being Chinese is probably being born with the bloodline, probably never interacted with Chinese media. We are supposed to be in this together, and what are you talking about right now? There's a handful of Chinese diaspora out here who literally never bothered interacting with our culture (which is fine, nobody's business to tell them what to do), and then whenever America does any "representation," they are suddenly online! Sure, it would be nice if Western media started to be more diverse for us out here, but you literally can't rely on some white man to do it. You have to curate this experience for yourself if it's something you truly care about. There's no good excuse to not seek out things for yourself. The majority of the cdrama/cnovel fandom here on Tumblr (or Twitter) do not speak Chinese, but there are English subtitles on many official and fan-based platforms. Some non-Chinese danmei reader could probably tell you about censorship in China back to front better. Anyways, that's another can of worms.
Back to Ye Zhetai, I've already talked about it briefly here. It's not that deep, the scene exists to get people talking. It's all perfunctory, the banners are written in a Microsoft YaHei font (Microsoft invented this font in 2004), they do not care about the history behind it, it's to evoke a reaction in the West. Let's show this traumatic thing that happened in China, then segway all the world saving plot-line to England, is that clear now if that hasn't occurred to you yet??
There's a list of the media that stemmed from the Cultural Revolution on Wikipedia with one easy Google search. Did you really look? Did you watch and read everything on that list?? Is there really no Chinese representation apart from Netflix??? If it's not allowed in China, how could he ever write the book and publish it in China?? Did you even know about the speculation that Ye Zhetai is based on the real physicist Ye Qisun??

*sees a long post from an American comparing Cardassia to the USSR/China* *rolls eyes and keeps scrolling*
#cipher talk#It's not that I think those are bad comparisons#It's that I don't trust white American liberals to make them and when yall do it tends to leave a bad taste in my mouth#Kinda veers into orientalism (and yes this is a factor in how Americans and Western Europe views Russia for shitty reasons)#As well as a weird fascination combined with loathing towards leftists that's just gross to be around#I don't even especially like the USSR or some of China's policies post revolution#Including the tendency some people have toward Han supremacy#But Cardassia is a Mish mash of whatever is scary to white progressive men in the 90s#And includes inspiration from the Ottoman British and Japanese empires as well as the Nazis who were Not Communists#So primarily analyzing Cardassia as a communist nation really is just. Foolish? Because they're also compared to fascists#Especially because we don't ACTUALLY know anything about Cardassian economics or much detail about politics#We know they venerate the family (which rings true for Chinese Japanese and Ottoman comparisons)#We know they have a military led ruling class that tries to balance with the Detapa council; military ruling class is not really like#A communist thing it's a dictatorship/authoritarian/fascist thing. A lot of African countries have or had those#Almost none of us are 'communist' in a meaningful way. At best Nasser was a socialist and that's not the same#And you can infer there's classism even from alpha Canon as well as food insecurity#If anything I think a pretty pressing comparison to Cardassia as a whole is they're Turks.#And even that is vague and stretches a bit because they weren't DESIGNED with that much intention#They were designed to be scary and not with a specific ideology and economic policy#If they were designed with such specifics by a politically informed person you would NOT have references to the Nazis alongside references#To communism because those two things are actually the opposite economic/political policy#And the ways they commit atrocities such as genocide or extend neocolonial influence aren't the same!#China for example has a VERY different stance to the US when it does that to the point where many Africans vastly prefer#To deal with Chinese companies because there's a material benefit from it even though Africans are often not getting a good deal#This doesn't make those dealings 'good' but it goes to show how just having a political history recently rooted in communism#Impacts how a government approaches things#Any government unfortunately is capable of genocide colonialism and imperialism. Resistance to those things is not simple.

Consider Yelan's facial expression to be my own in reaction to opinions shared on both X and Tumblr, and I guess I'm in the minority of the 'loud ones', but I'm pretty excited for Natlan since that trailer, actually. The previous teasers left me a little 'eh', but this definitely got my hopes back up, and I'm back in the right spirits for it (and ready to catch some Pokémon.)
Now I wouldn't be me if I didn't touch on the salt that I've seen scattered across the dash, so here I go. Listen, I read people's objections and I see what you're all aiming at, but in that light want to note that it's often incredibly easy to point fingers (arguably too much so) at others while being, quite honestly, hopefully rather aware that many of our own countries, cultures, and its populations across the board (and no, I'm not excluding anyone here) would likely be just as easily guilty as MHY is with these things. And no, I'm not blindly defending them, but I also won't point fingers at only one without pointing them everywhere else as well, including those you might think would 'never do such things', because I'm absolutely certain that they would. /continues on in the tags.
#we all wear biased lenses. and no-- 'informing yourself through social media' doesn't make you aware of how cultures work/look.#people informing themselves through social media is the /worst trend/ that the 2000/2010s have ever brought us. it's insane.#i'm sorry i'm also very tired of people deciding who are minorities and when. and who is allowed to 'get away with things' and who aren't.#and who is guilty and who isn't. and how “everyone is supposed to do everything right” when most people don't even know...#how the culture of their neighboring country genuinely looks outside of simple stereotypes (and usually only bad ones).#we also need to ultimately realize that mhy is chinese. it has (uniquely) gotten a lot of praise for its presentation of japanese culture.#(from what i hear) which is incredibly rare for a chinese company (and others). and then...#it's doing cultures further away from its own less justice. it didn't exactly do mondstadt great. it played into stereotypes.#and then combined them from multiple cultures. same with fontaine. it played into stereotypes /yet again/ in the same way the west does it.#and not just stereotypes from one country and culture. but /several/. but do most people who aren't familiar with those cultures know this?#no. they don't. and why would they? look at even just the west. europe and north america think that they're similar. /they are so not/.#if WE can't/won't even get it right. and yet we pretend to every damned day; why are we condemning a country halfway across the globe?#and also no-- i don't think latam or africa would portray china properly. or france. or the states.#... but you know what all this'll still do? cause people to look up and go 'hey this is so cool-- i want to know the inspiration'.#and people will still look into it. and people will learn.#and people will be drawn to them in life outside of their homes. or at least the ones who want to touch grass. and maybe even foreign grass#sanity knows i've looked infinitely more into chinese culture and customs because of liyue than ever before. with a much higher...#interest than i've ever admittedly had in regards to china. /ever/. just like i've had other games do the same for other cultures...#way across the globe.#[ salt. ] should i be quieter next time? / no. no… it's fine. children don't learn unless you shout at them.#[ out of character. ] don't bend or water it down. don't try to make it logical. rather: follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly.

No one cares about the episode where Mai gets kidnapped by a creepy famous guy who wants to marry her because it's pointless misogynistic filler BUT I do think it's fun that Jonouchi is apparently super into American martial arts movies. I think we can keep that. It's cute.

Every time I read a review of "Global South" country politics it's always "We are defying the US by doing this and this. And "This and this" is being friends with authoritarian regimes and not giving a fuck about victims of genocide. But hey! International leftist solidarity against the victims of American imperialism :) If you're a victim of any other imperialism then fuck you. We are building stronger relationships with "Usa's rivals" (regimes that are the reason you are suffering rn)
