Page 2. --- L'héroïne du jour: Mlle Shirley Reiley, 18 ans, 2117 rue Paris, qui s'est jetée à l'eau vis-à-vis la deuxième avenue, Verdun, et a sauvé une jeune fille, Mile Sheila Anderson, 15 ans, 1721 rue Champigny, qui se noyait à plus de 250 pieds de la rive.

L'accident fit suite à une excursion en canot. Mile Anderson et Mile E. Beurling, 16 ans, 748 rue Champigny, étaient accompagnées de A.-J. Whiteway, 17 ans, 571 rue Ash; et R. Hunt, 17 ans, 230 rue Charron.

Un peu après 9 heures, le canot a chaviré. Mile Beurling et les deux jeunes gens, Whiteway et Hunt, qui savaient nager, se sont dirigés vers la rive, Mile Anderson qui ne savait pas nager, fut abandonnée à plus de 200 pieds de la rive.

Ce fut à ce moment que Mile Reiley plongea à la rescousse de la jeune qui se noyait, l'a ramenée sur la rive et a même pratiqué sur elle la respiration artificielle pendant plus de vingt minutes en présence de ses trois compagnons.
