a funny thing ive noticed since coming out as trans is sometimes someone will deadname/misgender me and it is COMPLETELY an accident and they immediately act like they just shot my dog. theyre like "oh no! are you okay? im so so sorry" and theyll be super sincerely sorry about it and im just like "lol its fine"

Is skk abusive? Other than the name calling and banter that I just don't take seriously, I've seen people say that Dazai is abusive since he planned for Chuuya to be tortured in stormbringer and didn't help because it would be boring, despite having the ability to do so. There's also the whole manipulating the sheep thing.

I've also seen people say that Chuuya is abusive because of how violent he is, how he punched Dazai to wake him up in Dead Apple and called him inhuman(? Ngl, I don't remember that part) and because Chuuya shot him more times than necessary in Meursault.

Personally, I struggle to see them as abusive r toxic, if only because of how much they trust and understand each other, and how they rile each other up for fun without letting it actually impact their relationship, but I may just be biased? What do you think?

I wouldn't call them abusive in relationship terms because all that banter and most of their fights are just, as u said it, unserious.

They're both fucked up a bit tho, so yeah there's definitely some toxic behaviours anyway.

Dazai manipulating Chuuya to join the sheep always made me real sad, but if you think about it more - Dazai knew The Sheep aren't any better for Chuuya. Plus if not like this, Mori would get Chuuya to join PM anyway in one way or another, since it was a plan from the beginning.

Dazai planned the whole 'helping Verlaine' thing to buy time so the PM forces could get ready to protect Mori and Chuuya later. That's mafia they're in - lives are not equal. Also Dazai wouldn't put Chuuya in danger he knew the other wouldn't be able to deal with. Either way, his whole yapping about wanting to see Chuuya being tortured is yet again that stupidly weird banter of theirs. After all, he's trying to find him and literally stop him from doing something he would regret. (Sab is trying to make some points but that still doesn't make whatever Dazai did something good. Just sayin. I just don't feel it's a black or white situation.)

I said it some time ago but lord, Chuuya is not abusive. Look, he knows when it's alright to fight Dazai and when he should stop himself not to hurt him. Even if they fight, he never does it seriously. Basement scene? He could've very well just punched Dazai without warning there. But instead he literally invited him to fight - and Dazai very much agreed to that sht with a smile on his lips. They're just very much not okay in the head on both sides. Later when Chuuya actually got angry, he himself threw his knife to the ground, which only shows he doesn't really have any intent of hurting Dazai seriously (In the manga. In the anime they changed it for whatever reason and he did strike him with the knife. But anime skk is just. Anime skk.).

That Dead Apple argument is so funny bc??? Chuuya was literally UNDER CORRUPTION AT THE TIME??? Corruption literally makes him lose control. He could kill a person with one touch. Instead??? Corruption Chuuya in dead apple somehow managed to hold himself back just enough not to actually hurt Dazai. Also, Dazai f knew he's gonna punch him anyway. I mean, bro kinda deserved it atp tbh /j

Cant really tell much about the shooting thing in Meursault - i stil have no f idea if these were even real, considering the fact Dazai is moving normally and there's no wounds/holes/blood visible on him or his clothes. These were probably just a play like the whole headshot thing?? (Tho dazai's scream and expression after that arm shot say otherwise),, really don't know, call it a better impression on Fyodor or Chuuya actually paying Dazai back for the other times

Ok so ,looks at all that sht i just wrote and tried to still excuse it somehow, I wouldn't call them abusive anyway just bc I've seen actual abusive relationships in real life and that's just uhh different in a way i cant really put my finger on,, there's some toxicity simply from the fact they're emotionally constipated and won't talk things thru like they should but,,, welp. Tbh i see most of their usual fighting as something unserious that both of em r okay with. Usually when they actually get into an argument about something it's because one actually got hurt by the other's words (for example that scene with Chuuya punching Dazai after he made jokes about Colonel's death). And they apologize without really apologizing, too (Dazai going to find Shibusawa and trying to take revenge on Colonel's death and later Chuuya going to rescue Dazai and saying to 'wait for him').

Unpopular opinion but i honestly feel that in the future they could very well form a normal, healthy relationship. They just really need to talk. Bickering and calling each other names for fun isn't imo really a form of abuse, when both sides know it's not meaning to hurt the other fr (if it was, then me and most of my friends would be fr abusing each other unfortunately) (and I don't feel abused even if we call each other names and say we hate each other, while watching cat reels together at the same time) (consider this some sibling-like stuff)

If nothing of whatever i just said makes sense, don't eat me please, it's just really hard for me to explain what i really think without being able to just talk for 5h straight while considering every ppint of view

What made you want to write/come up with the idea for heroine?

OOHH thank you for asking i will do my best to answer. some of the details are probably lost to "i didn't store this in my long term memory" tho alsdjjdlska.

so. ok. i was an anime-only at the time and started thinking about it in some form mid-season 2 airing, because like, well. i've never written a fix it fic before, i dont think, but i knew shibuya was gonna wreck shop and it did. but i think hidden inventory arc was a pretty big piece of the conceptual puzzle here too because--

well honestly what a lot of it came down to was: i love yuuji. i love gojo. i love the yuuji-gojo dynamic and i'm always wanting to explore it, have since s1.

and then when i saw?? hidden inventory gojo?? that sure was SOMETHING like omg my man was a bitch. the dichotomy between teen and adult gojo is my muse. so the idea of how yuuji would experience teen gojo....

i remember as a kid in other fandoms reading a couple of fic that had that basic premise of "character time travels and has to fit in with the previous generation as youths" and obviously those left a pretty big impression on me. cause i think abt them all the time. wherever those fics are now they're definitely creditable for heroine existing. but tbh i started writing the first scenes just to see what would happen and then--

then i basically went. oh if yuuji met geto suguru would it be fucked up or what. and then i started that scene and they went no actually, have you considered we have things to bond over? specifically eating gross shit? and then they ran away with the story together and a lot of things kind of followed from that. so another source of inspiration really is just the suguyuu dynamic which i had literally never thought about until i put them in a jar together and shook it. can you say your fic is inspired by itself? cause it a little is.

speaking of how i started writing mid-s2 actually so obviously there wasn't the immediate intention to have "yuuji ate mahitorb" be the source of his abilities. i was at first operating off the theories that sprung from the s1 yuuji-mahito + yuuji-todo + s2 yuuji-choso fights that yuuji inherently had some kind of soul-based ability that affected memories. before of course we learned that choso is just that brocon and todo is indeed just a maladaptive daydreamer for real. (if you read carefully you can probably identify the point where i started catching up with the manga LOL but the first handful of chapters were powered by speculation and spoilers alone)

... tbh some of our plot points, like yuuji not having some memories, are literally a case of "well. i havent figured that out yet, so let's say he doesn't know." asldjalskjdal i have since worked out the mechanics of the fic and its lore and i think it's stronger for having them be mysterious to yuuji but it IS funny to think about how i was just like AND I'LL FIGURE IT OUT LATER. writing heroine is just trust falling into my own arms most of the time

another day, another touhou post! i almost missed the deadline on this one (not that it really matters, the pace is gonna slow down a lot in a couple posts anyways once i catch up). today's game is a bit of a weird one!

nina's thoughts on Touhou 9 - Phantasmagoria of Flower View

PoFV is a pretty strange game. instead of being a single-player experience like most mainline touhou games, PoFV is a competitive 2-player danmaku vs game. there is still a 1-player story mode, but instead of 6 stages and boss fights each character has 8 versus matches against other characters tied loosely together into a storyline.

the gameplay is neat, its honestly impressive how well the concept of a competitive danmaku battle actually works and it feels pretty natural. as usual the screen fills up with enemies and bullets, but stages dont have defined patterns or moments, instead both players keep surviving through an increasing onslaught of bullets and spell cards until one slips up and takes too many hits. destroying enemies creates a small explosion around them that deals damage to nearby enemies and sends weak bullets in the range to the other player's screen. if you line it up right you can get some nasty chain reaction explosions that can clear up your screen and really put the pressure on your opponent. in addition you can put more direct pressure on the other guy by building up your spell meter, expending it to summon powerful bullet patterns or even your own character as a boss fight onto your enemys side. while at times it can get a bit ridiculous (the two 'villain' characters have completely broken spell cards and insanely good ai piloting) in general the gameplay is fair and pretty fun!

as a fighting game of sorts, PoFV naturally has a rather large character roster, a total of 14 playable characters! we have the returners in Reimu, Marisa, Sakuya, Youmu, Reisen, Cirno, Lyrica, Mystia, Tewi, and Aya. Then we have 4 characters new to this game: Medicine, Yuuka, and the 'villains' of the story Komachi and Eiki Shiki. each character has different stats, shot types, zone shapes, and spell attacks, which makes for a lot of variety in the roster.

to try and unlock everything i beat the story mode for all 12 choices (Komachi and Eiki Shiki don't have a story mode). i didn't aim for 1cc's since the game doesn't differentiate whether you used a continue or not, but a couple of the runs happened to be done without continues: Marisa, Mystia, Aya, Medicine, and Yuuka. i dont remember enough about all the different characters bullets and stats to say that i really prefer any over the others, tbh if i were to play more i would probably just pick a character based on vibes alone. Marisa is my go-to generally, but im also partial to Cirno, Mystia, and Aya.

for the four new characters, theyre cool. Yuuka is probably my favourite solely because she gets a lot of cute art with Wriggle lol. for some reason the fandom is very split on whether Yuuka is an angry masochist or a lonely but wholesome flower lady. i think shes realistically somewhere in the middle. Medicine is also a neat concept, being an abandoned doll in a field of poisonous flowers who came to life through raw poisonous energy. Komachi is goofy, shes basically the grim reaper of Gensokyo but shes also really lazy and always slacking off, pretty much every singleplayer storyline involves her getting caught snoozing by her boss Eiki Shiki. Eiki Shiki herself is probably the weakest new character imo, its funny watching her judge all the characters supposed sins, but its really all she talks about, and her annoying fight isnt winning her any points for me.

PoFV is certainly a weird outlier in the series, but i think the gameplay does genuinely work pretty well! the idea of making a competitive bullet hell is so out there and they really put in the work to make it happen.

okay so im gonna take that literally heres a couple paragraphs of my thoughts on the film. (spoilers)

like i said this was the second time ive watched it. i watched it once when i was younger but all i remembered was when kida floated upwards, i remembered nothing about the plot just about how milo looked!

I got Atlantis in a 2nd hand dvd bundle of films almost a year ago but i thought i might as well watch it since i had nothing else to do.

The first thing i noticed was the animation. it was so fluid and satisfying to watch. the 3d and the 2d went really well with each other. i love the way the mechanics and large objects were 3d, it shows the animators put in so much effort to make it perfect. The animation was so good i didnt want to look down at my food to miss it. Every frame was like a star, you can see how much thought they put into small scenes, and the fight scenes and impressive scenes were so well done i can't even put it into words

The next thing i noticed was the character design. They were all so different and familiar. and drawable! I loved their hair, I like milos hair because it looks like french fries. and i like kidas hair because the layers are pretty. The way they animated her hair in the water and when she was floating was so pretty. Not one character looked dull, they all had something special about them. You can tell that people poured their heart into designing them and animating them. this movie has so many hearts and souls in it.

Next, the dialogue was funny. i didnt have captions on, because when i use dvds i either dont know how to turn captions on, or by the time the film starts i cant figure out how to go back to the main menu, so i missed quite a bit of dialogue lol but some of the lines caught me by surprise, and It's nice to be surprised! The script has been really carefully made and it seems like they made part of a language for it!

Then the character personalities. Milo milo milo i love milo hes so nerdy and cute. hes so passionate about atlantis and so excitable. Kida was such a good match for him, shes passionate too and they both rely on each other. she needs him to read the secrets, and he needs her because shes outgoing and confident and tbh he prob doesnt have any friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i loved how they gave every character a little story :) I also like how towards the end the characters turned against the bad guy (i called it for him to be evil the second i saw him!) but thats just because im a sucker for that kind of thing! I quite like how they killed the bad guys off since its just fiction :) but i literally cannot remember anyones name apart from milo and kida, but i plan on rewatching soon!! im gonna watch the bonus features as well! I loved the rock protectors because they reminded me of the iron giant (which i need to rewatch as well) while i was watching the scene where they put up the forcefield, every frame was just so impressive and well thought out. the lava flow, and the rocks cracking through the light was just so great. I cant wait to watch the sequel, i hope it isnt awful!

but yeah it was perfect

12/1- i also need to acknowledge that it wasnt perfect at all becuase of certain elements like milo being a white saviour and kida being needed to be saved. someone put it really well here

The Weekend is Coming- Thought about this recently because i had to find a new video for 16bit Wars for my playlist. It's still really good!!! I still really like it. A pretty equal contender for a MMJ or WxS cover.

Fire Flower- songs that still make me cry in this the year of our lord 2023. An easy WxS cover, I wanna hear a Tsukasa solo version of this.

again - I listened to a remix of this recently and it strikes me as an Ena solo. I would even hazard this as an Ena and Mizuki cover.

Saihate- I feel like this is such an old classic? I'm kind of impressed it's not in the game as far as I know? I'm pretty sure it's in Project Diva. Anyways I'd give it to N25 or MMJ, I'm kinda torn on it tbh.

[Not] a Devil- this came out REAL recently, but I've had it on repeat and I think the chart would be really fun. I think this would make a good An and Kohane duet, tbh. OR: my ideal duet of Mafuyu and Emu.

Lavie- I honestly just want an Akito cover of this tbh, it's not terribly deep. BUT I think it would be stellar as a rhythm game chart.

Reincarnation Apple- another song on the long list of "N25 or WxS?" debates. I equally want to hear a Mafuyu and a Nene cover of this. It would be fun with the full chorus of either group though.

Delusion Sketch- an older bop, I still really like the PV for it. I would give it to MMJ or N25 probably, though it's got a little more poppy than I usually associate with N25.

panda hero- In my ideal world where Kenshi Yonezu would let PrSk cover his older songs, they also get into contact with older cover artists to get permission to use their rap versions. Either way, VBS no questions.

A Song I'd like to Sing- I forgot how much I enjoy this song, I've got a cover of it I'm pretty partial to. This has strong WxS vibes to me, but I could see it as an ensemble PrSk protagonists song.

lifeline- my FAVORITE junky song, bar none. Finding it again to put on a playlist was a TRIAL. Definitely a l/n song, not a hard choice.

Sing My Love- one of my old middle school jams. It's still super cute tbh, I'd give it to MMJ. Give this to Haruka for my health.

Love Hero- probably in my top 5 Gumi songs tbh. The instrumentals say l/n but in my ideal world the video game squad gets the song about event flags even if it's not their usual fair.

Marshall Maximizer- the micchi cover of this keeps coming up on my playlist so it's been on my brain. I would GREATLY enjoy this as a VBS cover, but I could also see it as an N25 song tbh.

Dont Kill The Love Song- I've been on a PinocchioP kick don't @ me. I think this would make a fun l/n song though, or WxS for the vibes.

Uchiha Shisui

First impression:

I was met with Shisui as I discovered malignedaffairs artworks and I didn't know anything about him apart from the fact that he looks gorgeous and that Itachi and him look breathtaking together.

Ahhh Shisui. I think Shisui is REALLY really interesting as a character, despite the fact that we have so little information on him. But based on the info that we have about him I'm interested.

I watch a naruto youtuber and he has talked about the info we have on Shisui - apparently from the light novels.

Shisui did kill his best friend - or was in some way feeling responsible for killing his best friend - out of jealousy. The best friend he had before Itachi. Malignedaffairs made a comic about it as well and in there Shisui let go of his best friends hand and the fall ended up killing them. Now in canon we don't know HOW it happened but it is canon that Shisui let his best friend die (or killed them) out of jealousy for their strength and acquired the mangekyo that way.

Also, I think this bit of information is from the light novels? I don't remember, I watched it in the youtube video and can look for the source but yk, just for this ask I'll just talk about it like that. Anyway, Shisui had parents. I don't really remember what it was about his mother, but his father was bedridden and Shisui had to take care of the family, shoulder all of those expectations and make money etc. However, his father wasn't only bedridden but with the increase of his sicknesses, he ended up forgetting who Shisui was. He forgot that he had a son. And as heartwrenching and terrible this is - it was Shisui who basically ... didn't give a flying.

It was also Shisui who lied to Danzo to get Itachi into the root. Because in Itachis root trial, Shisui basically did the job and said Itachi was it - which brought Itachi into the root on Shisuis side.

I DONT KNOW. Shisui is already so complicated and complex from these bits and pieces of info. I love hot malignedaffairs painted the picture of Shisui being afraid of himself occasionally, worrying he'd end up hurting Itachi as well as he did for his former best friend.

Also Shisui having so little emotions left for his family and basically recruiting Itachi into the worst part of Konoha. The only person Shisui has ever really cared about was Itachi, from what we can guess and see and I think it's just interesting.

Shisui turned out to be something that I never expected from seeing those great artworks, there is so much behind a character we've literally seen ... 2 minutes.

Sorry for the ramble, this is totally unfiltered and chaotic but I have a lot of thoughts on Shisui that I wont be getting into too deeply now.

I'll leave it at that.

But probably that Shisui instead of just giving his eye to Itachi normally to use against Fugaku or to ... go there and use his remaining eye on FUGAKU, the way they had planned - just rips it out and puts it in a crow to follow Itachi around.

I won't get too much into the whole Shisui taking his life part but I thought it's hilarious how his decision-making goes.

Idea for a story

I'd love to explore how things would have turned out if he didn't die - obviously. And how the relationship/friendship between Itachi and him would have continued.

And if they would have managed to stop the Uchihan revolution.

Also, tbh, bc I'm a huge fan of ShiIta, I'd love to just take closer looks on their relationship itself and how they are stuck to one another.

I should read more on them - but currently I'm so stuck in reading everything elated to HashiMada that gets into my hands haha

Unpopular opinion

Not sure if these are unpopular, because I haven't seen many people talk about him :(

Shisui isn't really kind or empathic - he masks a lot and has troubles connecting to the emotions of others and himself. The only person he cares about, in the most possible way for him, is Itachi. In extension of Itachi he also cares for Sasuke - but only as far as it affects Itachi, not for Sasuke on his own.

He's good at hiding these things but to other people he's often coming off as ... a little off. Like that there's something not quite right to him. Except for Itachi - Itachi loves him and thinks he's great the way he is tbh.

You can do so much with them and considering that we have barely nothing to none information about Shisui, everyone can freely put anything on him and we get such a variety of ways of them!

Favorite headcanon

Shisui barely let's anything through and things rarely shake him to his core. As I said, he's not really in touch with himself but I love the idea of malignedaffaris on how he's struggling with the death of his former best friend and in times where Shisui DOES get a hold on himself and can reflect on his actions and this ounce of empathic inside of his body grabs his ankles - he's terrefied of the things he can do and holds onto Itachi. He doesn't express these things often but when he does, it all just comes spilling out of him like a waterfall and Itachi does nothing but hold him and listen and reassure him that he's not worried or afraid of him.

Uchiha Itachi

First impression

I watched Naruto as I was a kid for the first time. I was like 13 and everyone thought Itachi was the coolest and for that simple reason I loathed him. Haha.

I thought he was way too overrated and everyone was obsessed with him for his strength and his cool color combination and his aloof personality and I hated that.

I rewatched Naruto at the beginning of this year and I didn't LOATHE him anymore, but I generally disliked Itachi. Mostly for the things he put Sasuke through and because I wasn't really ready to dip deeper into the reasons for the way he acts.

Impression now

Yeah okay, don't touch me or my bby. I love him now. BUT not for the reasons the people I knew loved him. Bc I, don't think that Itachi is cool at all. Or aloof. Yes he's got a pretty neat color combination going for himself - black and red does work with any Uchiha. But I don't see him as super distant and badass and unbelievably strong.

I like Itachi for his weakness. And all those coolness-reasons are actually quite sad at the end, because Itachi also puts up a lot of acts that he seems so untouchable to stay safe while at the same time he's shattered into so many pieces on the inside.

Also, I think that Itachi isn't a genius at all.

I think Itachi is actually absolutely stupid - because the decisions he has done and the roads taken have always been the worst possible option.

Give Itachi two options to choose from:

A: the good path

B: the bad path

and Itachi finds a way to choose

C: the absolute worst route you can go

I made a WHOLE powerpoint about the decisions Itachi has made and why they are as stupid as they are. I do cut him the slack of making those decisions mostly when he was 13yrs old - but even as an adult he keeps doing things that don't make sense AT ALL.

Idea for a story

Ahh, I don't know tbh. I love to put Itachi in the AU's my fiance and I have.

In our next gen Au, Itachi kind of returns as an upgraded Edo-Tensei but only for the reason to finally reconnect with Sasuke and live a quiet happy life without the need for violence. He deserves some peace. He also goes and travels with Kisame lol.

In the omegaverse Au that is mostly centered around the founders (which is why I talk about it as the omegaverse founders au) he is also there. Actually, because it's an au, everyone is there. And Itachi's basically left to raise Sasuke and Shisui is on his side.

I'd also like to see stories where Itachi was saved instead of killed by Sasuke or where he would have made different (BETTER) decisions.

Nirvana - Something In The Way (Live at the BBC): when listening through last month's album ranking, this performance caught me. something in the way is one of the more underrated tracks from nevermind (or at least it was before the new batman movie lol). truthfully there's nothing too out of the ordinary with this performance but i like how kurt's voice sounds on the chorus especially <3

Umphrey's McGee - National Loser Anthem: i LOVE mashups that are actually recorded by someone else instead of sticking the tracks together (both kinds are good but this type is underappreciated). this is the opener to this album and it introduces the mastercraft on display so well...

Papa Roach - Scars: i don't even have anything nice to say about this song other than that it's super catchy. i actually got it in my head bc i had been listening to the laura les remix lol

Europe - The Final Countdown: okay everyone SHUT UP. i know this is a fucking sports stadium anthem but i dont give a shit about that!! when i was 11 years old and only just starting to listen to music, this was one of the only songs i knew. everyone only knows the chorus (which is really good) but if you actually listen to the lyrics it's this heartwrenching power pop track about leaving earth and dealing with the complicated emotions that would come with that...... you wouldn't get it................

Luscious Jackson - Naked Eye: heard it on the radio. struck me as a very genre-bending band, with rock and hip hop and a bunch of other shit mixed in. cool stuff! apparently the drummer was the original drummer for the beastie boys?? crazy

Vanilla Ice - Hooked-Live/1991: i've been writing a ranking of all of vanilla's albums, which led me to relisten to some significant tracks. hooked was one of the stronger tracks from his debut album (the original release of which was even named after it) but it always fell a little short for me. the live version, on the other hand, has a lot more energy and hype

They Might Be Giants - Hide Away Folk Family: tmbg was one of the first bands i ever listened to (explains a lot tbh) but i only knew a little bit of their stuff from like the 90s and 00s, so i wanted to go back and check out some old school material. i liked this album a lot, and the chorus to HAFF stuck in my head big time

Jethro Tull - Aqualung: i've been getting into some more prog rock recently for no. particular... reason...... and i already kinda knew i would like this album. my dad had recommended "up to me" a while back, which i really liked, so i had high hopes. they were met! good fucking album! the title track is really only a standout bc of my love for opening tracks

ANGEL_TECH - whats up with u??: new angel_tech album out now!! once again, the opening track thing is big for me. i love an album that makes a good first impression. it was unfortunate that i couldn't make the release party but oh freaking well!

Huey Lewis & The News - I Want A New Drug: i think i've properly memed myself into enjoying huey lewis lmaooo i found sports in those old cassettes i mentioned i've been going through and was like "lol i should listen to this bc funney american psycho reference" and then an hour later i was adding a bunch of huey songs to my playlist...

Mind-Body Problem - Flesh and Blood (Ephesians 6:12): found this band through their hand crushed by a mallet cover, but honestly i think i might like this original track better. metalcore and hardcore and all that are severely lacking some fresh faces and new takes on the genre, so i'll be keeping an eye on what else this band has to offer!

August is Falling - August Is Falling: really great new ep from an absolute classic pop punk emo band. definitely not tied to any kind of internet inside joke bullshit. remember seeing them on warped tour

Girls Rituals - Idiot punk tetratogenic perma-decline (at the end of your bed): i've been enjoying all devi's new singles but this one's the one i keep coming back to. nothing much more to say it's just good tunes

Spin Doctors - Little Miss Can't Be Wrong: i've been just ever so slightly abnormal about these guys since the trainwreckords episode, but this one is not really that interesting? it's just a really good pop song 👍

Cry Baby - Singing For You: y2k throwback pop rock recommended by skatune network. i've become such a pop girlie and this one has a big catchy chorus. great stuff :)

personally i dont know if i can honestly recommend gintama to anyone who has not seen it. It's the type of anime where you need to develop an acquired taste for it. To recommend this show to anyone, you probably need to be aware of what your recomendee wants in an anime. I know that Gintama is ultimately a gag/parody anime, however the way people (and I) hype it often just focus on the serious parts which can make the wrong impression on the uninitiated bystander. ;^_^

Gintama problems:

pacing is questionable. 368 episodes + 8 specials and like only 30% is actual story. Good luck sacrificing ur brain and ur limited free time. And while it was rewarding to find parallels/connections between comedy and serious arcs, it's also easy to get annoyed by it.

the first chapters/episodes were weak plotline-wise. Like I can still remember me asking myself just where the story was going. If it weren't for the episode guide that I followed constantly reminding to treat it not as something one should binge-watch but rather smth someone watches once a week, i would have given up.

serious arcs are followed by too many comedic arcs.

and while the comedy is unique, it's not for the impatient.

It's best to watch it if you've spent a lifetime exposed to jp anime and media or at least grew up exposed to other shonen jump titles (especially older ones or gintama contemporaries.)

Also people need to be warned of the abundance of green jokes. It's something one should watch with a super open mind.

Don't even get me started on every ____-phobic issue/trope one encounters along the way.

There's also bullsht plot armor for all the Joui4 and some other characters and places.

not to mentions tons of deus ex machina events which make no darn sense.

Anime producers extended manga chapter content by a significant margin. One must be careful of what to consider as strictly canon. It is fascinating though.

If I didn't watch the filipino dub of the anime for the early episodes I wouldn't have been able to get through them tbh. It was great that the filipino dub captured the essence of the characters/comedy (with some localization ofc).

I admit I did skip A lot of comedy arcs because 1.) i got bored while watching 2.) offensive 3.) felt like a waste of time. Reading in the manga those arcs I skipped was how I fixed the holes in my Gintama lore.

People would argue that Gintoki is a one-of-a-kind MC. While I agree that his backstory was interesting, the way the multiple endings of the show still revolved around him/yorozuya ultimately saving the world every time ticked me off. That was very shonen jump of sorachi tbh. For as much as he tried to deviate from the common SJ editoral tropes, he still subscribed to making his MC save the world all the time. I should have been used to the formula by now but it made GIntoki/Yorozuya kinda boring to me. For all the hype it kinda felt short on that aspect.

It's ultimately my fault for having too many expectations for it. I had been used to watching seinen for more than 10 years after all.

Things I found amazing about Gintama

almost accurate portrayal of war. Like really, I cannot stress this enough. Espionage, Sabotage, Diplomacy, rebellions, leaders rounding up remnants of rebellious groups, pillaging, siege warfare, etc. It's great. If the Amanto didn't have such disorganized and melee-type fighting style it would have been perfect (and not even gintoki would have stood a chance lol)

strong ladies (im conflicted on this coz i dont like most of their fighting styles and portrayals)

I guess this was my proper review of Gintama after 2 months watching/studying the show. If anyone reading this is offended by my complaints, remember that most complaints are born out of love. I did enjoy Gintama, and because I enjoyed it, I naturally want to talk about it's strengths and weaknesses. xD

10 Anti LO Asks

1. Why is no one talking about one of the most stupid things we've seen in this webtoon thus far? I'm talking about the fact that H&P deadass pull a "I nominate Hades as an attorney to defend me in this case uwu" and the mf accepts (clearly the had it planned) although he is part of the jury.

Now, I don't have fast pass but I really hope this whole thing is forbidded by Zeus in the next episodes. It makes no fucking sense! Hades is not a lawyer, and as a god is not associated with law/justice (him being a king doesn't excuse this, he is there to "judge" not to defend the accused).

This really proves that absolutely nothing works against Persephone ever. She is able to get away with murder and have zero consequences for her actions, all while the smurf plays daddy with her, spoils her and defends her in court WHICH SHOULD NOT BE EVEN POSSIBLE LMAO.

From OP: It’s allowed because ‘loophole’.

2. I would like to add to what that person said about the characters looking too stiff. Literally that panel towards the end of ep. 179 where P said "I nominate Hades" is the best example of this. Wtf is wrong with her hand? It looks like a wooden doll with her arm extended like that. The only explanation I have for this (aside from the fact that the art style sucks big time) is that she's trying to imitate the art style on the ancient Greek amphoras (amphorae?), but even the scenes depicted on them had signs of natural movement, with the bodies looking much less stiff of course.

3. Anyone else wanna mention the backgrounds are also just not there at this point? Like she was already bad with this in the beginning but at least there was some sketch up lines to give the impression they were in a real space, but now it’s literally just blank voids of color and that’s it, and often not good use of color either (why is the above land pink while the underworld is blue? It makes it hard too tell what’s going on). There aren’t even establishing shots to at least give the readers an idea where they are and then becoming abstract about it, it’s all abstract and flat, which doesn’t help when the characters also are so lacking in character design and aren’t really doing anything pose or action wise. The world around them don’t even seem like actual places, it just seems like a set, and a very cheap one at that. It just ends up looking so boring in all fronts.

4. I don't know why it's only happening now but Persephone's eyebrows have started to piss me off lately. Why are they pure black? And when did they become so thick? It doesn't fit in with the rest of her fair and hairless appearance, it just looks like her brow artist did a piss poor job on them.

5. it honestly makes me sad looking at the first few lo episodes. were they perfect? god no, but at least the art was unique and had some actual thought put in it, but by around episode 25 or so you begin to notice the style is becoming less and less, until you have what it is now which is completely different, and not for the better. i know styles change and all, but this is a case where it got so much worse, losing its unique factor to look so generic and lacking instead. it make me sad.

6. Ive noticed LO fans dont seem to enjoy any other greek myth works, only LO. for example there's a huge overlap in PJO fans liking Hades Games and BoZ, and Hadestown fans towards TSOA, and so on and so on, meanwhile LO overwhelmingly don't even read other HxP stuff like Punderworld and openly hate stuff like PJO. They tend to only consume LO while claiming to be "big myth fans". It reminds me of Potterheads who claim to be big book nerds when they've really only read the series and nothing else.

7. its truly a testament to how bad the writing is from RS in that she honestly thought it was a dramatic twist apollo and artemis of all people were children to zeus, despite looking exactly like him and not like their mother. also, tbh, the fact hera humiliated leto and treats the twins like garbage, it is any wonder theyre being depicted so negatively in LO? theyre only used to prop up hades and p's "friendships" to eros and daphne. artemis is even the "bad" maiden. it's all so stupid.

8. the thing to me is no retelling of myths will be perfect, how could they be? but LO takes the cake at claiming its so researched and is the actual truth and is 99%+ correct (both from rachel's words as well as by her fans) with both refusing to even admit to any mistakes and refusing any critique, especially from greeks themselves, that's where the issue is to me. you cannot claim to be so well researched only to be upset when people notice the many obvious inaccuracies. that's not how it works.

9. there's a part of me that wonders why LO has never featured any MLM romances like poseidon, zeus, or apollo's many male lovers, but then i remembered she doesn't care about poseidon and both zeus & apollo are both evil to her, her made up WLW romances are terrible, and all relationships that cant be used to prop up hades and persephone are made cruel and abusive, so maybe that's a blessing in disguise that she's so bad at even remembering LGBTQ+ relationships, much less depicting them.

10. The whole trial thing just puts into perspective how much plot points go off the rails. I was actually looking forward to finally hearing from Demeter that Persephone IS a fertility goddess and them having a argument before the trial, but then it just left on a Clift hanger. And then oh wow Hades is being her lawyer, which??, pretty sure that’s not how that works but okay whatever he’s going against his brothers. But he doesn’t even make an opening statement because the other side does instead. And then Hermes shows up and his backstory starts and everything gets so muddled. I’m not an expert on court cases but seeing the witness be called up right after and the other side just make a bunch of shi up instead of stating a pathos but accurate opening statement hurts my brain. Not to mention the jury and people just speaking out at random? Like can Rachel just write something serious for once? Or at least somewhat accurate? Legally blonde had a better comedy court case scene than whatever this is.
