i'm of the belief that gender is so personal and individualized that no people even can have the same gender. bc it's such a social thing- you can have major similarities and these are where we get broad labels for things, but trying to compare your experience 1:1 with someone of the same gender on gender matters is always going to make you come up short. like even cis people. we all get fed different variations of similar messages & have such wildly varying life experiences i deeply and truly think it's a personal thing for everyone. doesn't make labels useless, in fact they're incredibly useful for finding the words to talk about overarching shared problems and experiences, but the search for "what is a woman" and "what is a man" will, imo, always be fruitless bc every person will have their own answer. like what is gender if not a mix of biology, socialization, social norms, social expectations, lived experience, community, etc. none of which can be easily boiled down to a sentence or even two or three.

and since this post is long enough so not many will actually look for too long here's a wip for you I did today for fun

love thinking about the underworld siblings just being absolute fucking creatures. they stare at you too long after a conversation has ended and quickly look away if you notice and look back. they sit catatonic on the floor of a pitch black room and get mildly annoyed when someone turns the lights on. they get each other in a distinct way that no one else ever really could and hold hands creepily like the twins in the shining. nico notices the tiny little things of another person's life and when they ask him How he knows he says "the ghosts in your walls told me" (it's a joke and no one laughs). hazel has a fun night on the town with friends when suddenly she lays her fingertips to the earth and says "oh... someone was murdered here in 1998" and the mood is killed instantly. they have a shared macabre that looms over others like the presence of an urn in the corner of a room. percy/frank/will/jason/reyna are used to it but even they get caught off guard by their behavior sometimes. they need to be Weird in a way that makes other people uncomfortable

I always feel like this is an underrated moment between both of these characters.

Scott's awkward as fuck, and generally tends to avoid a lot of physical contact himself. He was isolated in the past, and now he's in a time period where everyone basically treats him like the baby version of a monster. "Don't touch me!" is a common refrain.

But he sees someone who seems to need physical comfort and impulsively, and awkwardly goes for it.

And I'm not a Laura Kinney expert, so please feel free to correct me, folks who know better. But the gist I've gotten of Laura's story at this time is that she's (also) relatively isolated from most of her age group. And aside from maybe the guy she was in a romantic relationship with for a while, I don't get the sense that she's been offered much by way of physical comfort from someone her own age before. And it probably helps that he immediately backs off when she says "No."

And then, of course, there's that equally sweet moment later, when she ends up returning the favor:

I'm actually pretty glad these two never ended up dating during his time in the future. I think they're maybe a little too alike, with a bit too much by way of similar trauma and backstory to really make it work.

But they do make such wonderful friends, and I love how much they seem to understand each other.

They don't really have the same camaraderie that Scott and Kamala got once Scott aged back up again, which is a bit of a shame. But they did have a few good moments when they were both on the X-Men together in Krakoa.

It's just a lovely little friendship and I love it very much.

zac’s “less is more” approach to comedy is always golden but it is working PERFECTLY for colin provolone from both a comedic and dramatic standpoint. everyone else I kinda get the vibe of but colin is Just Some Guy which is driving both me and raphaniel up the fucking WALL.

How come you’re a Jason enjoyer while also hating Tim even though he has more consistency when it comes to characterization and also has more comics as robin than Jason. Tim also has more developed relationships with other characters

I’m not trying to just just curious, you don’t have to answer this if you don’t want to

Buddy my favorite characters are Grant Wilson (died in the 80's, has not been seen or heard from since Rebirth, and even then only in flashbacks) and Talia Al Ghul (hasn't had consistent characterization since the 90's). I could not possibly care less about who has more content.

For me it's just because on a fundamental level I relate to Jason more. I grew up very poor, my mom struggled with addiction, my dad was in and out of jail, cancer runs in my family, and I got adopted at 13. His story is a lot more meaningful to me than some rich kid who only got his start because they retconned everything about Jason. Praising Tim for traits that Jason ALSO HAD but that dc made a solid effort to erase.

I also just find Tim boring for this reason. Xel Writer on YouTube put it really well when he called Tim an industry plant. He was built up on the basis that he's a better Robin than Jason, but not actual Robin Jason, the recklessly angry imaginary version of Jason that's been victim blamed to hell and back. So I really didn't care for him much at all. And it doesn't help whenever he's around characters I like more are downplayed so he can be the smartest special boy in the room. If you have to knock others down so your fav can be on top maybe he's just not that good.

Also Jason has been characterized and deeply affected by the women in his life and his complex relationships to them and his anger about sexual violence in particular is very core to his character vs Tim who right out the gate treated Steph and Tam both pretty badly and he's all around too much like all the reasons I hate Bruce. So.

I'm going to be so real I do not understand tim & steph shippers who feel that Steph dating Tim again would save her character. You can make an argument that giving Tim a more compelling love interest would be beneficial for him! And you can at least make an argument that the fujo mischaracterization of Steph would stop. However she'd still, inevitably, be treated as a prop character/extension for someone more popular 😭 it also wouldn't make her appear in more books! Tim doesn't have many frequent appearances at the moment either! You can just say you like the couple and want them back together without acting like you have some kind of moral stance

this is gonna be such a bog standard joelguy post but anyone ever think about how so many of joels recent-ish duos are so. snappy. comparing him to fire is overdone but whenever he's with someone they legitimately do just get on like a house on fire. every dynamic he's in they're always just biting at each other. pearl iskall gem etho shane fwhip even sausage to an extent. not to mention jimmy oli lizzie and scott. what is his Deal
