The Hockey AU characters pt. 1

So I decided I’ll share some of my notes on each character of the AU so that everyone understands some things better :)

This one is for Big Dogs bc I won’t be able to fit everything in one post!

Joel Beans

He’s the team’s star player. Some people say that made him arrogant but those who know him well know that he’s always been like that.

He met Grian and Jimmy in secondary school and began calling themselves the Bad Boys. To this day nobody understands why.

He briefly dated Lizzie in college before they broke up mutually. They remain on great terms even now

He and Lizzie actually have a running joke that they’re married which started when they once claimed to be married to get a discount at Starbucks during Valentine’s day

He’s been learning hockey ever since he was 8 years old and has always loved it

Despite denying it like his life depends on it, he’s an absolute softie for animals, especially dogs. Jimmy swears he once saw Joel cry over a cute puppy he saw passing by them on the street.

Grian Moon

He and Pearl are siblings

He has 10 identical copies of his favourite red sweater

He’s been friends with Jimmy since they were 9

He calls Jimmy Timmy because he misheard Jimmy when they were introducing themselves and decided not to correct himself ever again

He once bought a whole chicken costume just to throw an egg (read: several eggs) at Pearl in it. He still has the costume and still denies it ever being him to this day

He stubborn to the point where he once didn’t talk to Jimmy for a whole week for making a joke about him being short

The moment he met Mumbo in secondary school he declared the two of them brothers and decided he would protect that little ball of anxiety with his life

Scar Times

He moved from the US to play in the Big Dogs

He’s absolutely the kind of person to break his leg during a game and say he’s fine, so Pearl drags him off anytime he falls a bit worse than she likes just in case

Only about half of the insinuations he makes are accidental. He’s very capable of making dirty jokes and he will use that skill.

People often think he’s the most oblivious put of them but if he tries, he can easily put together the pieces. He just lives with the mentality of not wanting to pry and doesn’t look too closely into things. He knows the person would tell him if they wanted him to know

He once built a throne for his cat Jellie out of cardboard. In real scale. It stays in his living room and nobody other than Jellie is allowed to touch it.

He has an older brother, Cub. Sadly, Cub lives back home in the US, meaning Scar doesn’t get to see him much

Jimmy Solidarity

He and Lizzie and siblings

He and Martyn are the Big Dog mascots

He’s known Martyn since high school

He made a YouTube channel dedicated to vlogging funny moments from the Big Dog team, for which Gem absolutely hates him because it ruins their reputation a bit. Despite the complaints of said social media manager of their team, he is not willing to take the channel down

He’s publicly dating Tango and yet to his frustration, none of his friends notice. He even got laughed off when he told Martyn he was dating Tango! They even live together.

He once took a fashion course in college

Martyn Littlewood

He’s the other Big Dogs mascot

He and Ren have a weird thing going on where nobody knows whether they’re dating, friends, or hate each other. When confronted, Martyn either laughs it off or tells the person (mainly Jimmy because it’s funny to see his reaction) that it’s a ‘mascot thing’. Everyone has given up trying to understand the two. Martyn himself doesn’t really know what he and Ren are. When he asked Ren once, Ren admitted that he didn’t know either.

Though he would never admit it, he only took the mascot job because Jimmy did and Martyn wanted to stay around his friend. He ended up loving the job anyway.

He once set a classroom on fire back in high school to get out of an exam. It worked but he got caught because he stayed at the scene of the crime laughing.

He and Scott once role-played secretly being mermaids for a week straight for no reason back in secondary school. Everyone hated them by the end for their terrible acting.

Gemini (Gem) Tay

She and Etho are cousins

She moved to the UK to pursue better career opportunities and see a new place and ended up getting a job as the social media manager of Big Dogs. She never regretted her decision.

She’s been dating Pearl for almost a year now. She forgot to tell Etho.

Everyone is unanimously terrified of her and yet delighted by her presence. It’s confusing.

She actually has a boating license. She never explains why or how to anyone. Not even Etho knows where and when she got it.

One time she literally flipped a guy who was being creepy to her onto the ground. A video of it went viral and was shown on the local small news channel.

Pearl Moon

She’s Grian’s sister

She’s the team’s doctor

In secondary school, she helped Martyn light the classroom on fire. She, however, did not get caught.

Ever since the chicken costume incident, she’s been determined to find that costume and burn it. She knows Grian’s kept it just for the fun of it. And so, every time she visits Grian’s house or is at one of the parties in his house, she looks through anywhere where it could possibly be. She hasn’t found it yet but she will. One day.

Despite living in the UK all her life, she has an Australian accent. Nobody knows why, not even her.

She and BigB are childhood friends. She’s the only one who knows anything about him from their friend groups, including his real name. She also, however, doesn’t reveal any of it because she thinks it’s funny.

She and BigB also have their weird nosy neighbour traditions. Most of their friends think they were (or still are) in a cult of some kind. It’s really just them being silly.

Mumbo Jumbo

He’s the Big Dogs’ team manager

He constantly wears a suit, no matter the weather or occasion

He used to be (read: still is) a ball of anxiety back in secondary school. Grian kinda just adopted him the moment they met.

He plays around with technology and creates little devices for fun in his spare time.

I am now hip deep in the Edge of Midnight campaign from legends of avantris and lemme tell you some shit -

1) I would lay down my life for Jericho Sticks without any hesitation. Torbek and Jericho are my sons now, no takesies backsies.

2) Lethica and Marius are so perfectly aligned to be end game lovers but I personally adore the idea of them being queerplatonic if only bc it's funny to watch people be confused and I think Lethica would adore that.

3) you can pry the concept of Briggsy having a some kind of magical fantasy cellphone equivalent from my cold dead hands - sending stone or smth idfk - and he's been keeping his buddy/boyfriend Torbek updated on all this like "Becky you would not BELIEVE what happened today-" ((listen I know the flirting bit between them in the yuletide one-shot was a feycurse but leave me alone it's funny as fuck))

4) briggsy @ jericho in ep 24 appropos nothing: Jerry, maybe we have to kiss ((sad, silly twinks with Literal Darksides are his type /j))

5) I have a friend-crush on Nikkie and I will never recover

6) I have an unyielding NEED to have Jericho get a final hit on a boss and yell yeehaw

7) I know stylistically Jericho doesn't have "skin" but I personally hc that his clothes aren't effectively his skin, he has a burlap body - and he has "tattoos" in the form of embroidery. It started when he had to stitch up his own cuts and stuff and he just kept it up.

8) Only Yorgrim has any constant sense of cooking in an actual kitchen-like setting. Farryn, Marius, and Briggsy can do journey or on-the-road cooking, but it's never.... great. Lethica burns everything somehow or gets the bright idea to 'experiment', and it's never good - she's fine if she's got clear end goals. Jericho is understandably skittish around fire due to his body and straw, but he is the closest to being able to cook well and do so semi regularly.

9) Virgil is a weird mix of a hater and lowkey overprotective. He does hate being imprisoned, but also he's kinda bound here so he HAS to keep this disaster of a bard safe. He refuses to admit he might have a soft spot. He is Stressed.

10) Farryn doesn't get the appeal of Girls Nights, but Jericho does!!! They join Lethica for some fun relaxation. Briggsy once asked why Jericho was allowed since he's also a dude, and Lethica just responded "he's allowed to be there - on account of him being a scarecrow and not a literal man after all." It's an inside joke which later has to be explained - Jericho is nonbinary but doesn't rightly care about stuff like that.

11) Yorgrim is the group dad, no I will not explain.

12) sometimes after a battle, Lethica and Marius will help stitch up some of Jericho's tears. Farryn may also add in random flowers she finds around because it makes him happy.

13) Briggsy is small but mighty. The only person he has yet to pick up and carry is Yorgrim - he swears that one day that tombstone will be gone and he'll be able to do it. It's all the rock's fault, he's sure of it.

Spoilers under the cut (caught up to present)

OKAY so I am caught up completely and have decided that Canon is not important leave me alone

• Yorgrim did not die - he got wounded heavily but survived.

• Farryn almost got taken but they got to her in time. She is mute for a time due to injuries and trauma - idk if she ever talks again bc we could use more sign language in the world. Maybe it comes and goes, fuck if I know, idk and idc

ONWARDS TO SILLIES

• Lethica strong armed her way into giving Jericho The Talk after he revealed he had no idea what a penis was. Scarecrows cannot blush, but apparently his fiendish glow can ebb and flow and he glows much MUCH brighter when he's embarrassed - she tries so hard not to laugh.

• Adella and Jericho btw are simply besties. His "crush" on her is a friend crush and Phillip just finds it painfully cute. ((Also -> Jericho has mommy issues and Adella always wanted a son/nephew/little brother. Peaceful alignment))

• Dark Mode Marius is a colossal flirt but still a giant dweeb. He's cool and suave until someone flirts back - then he's a mess.

• Briggsy is very happy with his Kannon & makes "shooting my shot" jokes at every and any opportunity

• Yorgrim, with his reward, manages to finally lay many souls tonrest but he still carries the tombstone on journeys - just not constantly now. He still believes he must pay penance, but it's a little easier to share the burden.

• Farryn, with her own reward, has not chosen to activate it yet. Something tells her to wait, to bide her time and remain. She does, however, get a little more at ease with the others. She and Jericho have come to an understanding, too - that being they they are a package deal, no takesies backsies, and they refer to each other as twin, much to the confusion of many, many, many people. WLW and NBLM solidarity.

• Jericho is pining HARD for Marius, but he's absolutely terrified of damaging the friendship so everyone is watching two oblivious dummies look longingly into each other.

• POLYAMORY POLYAMORY POLYAMORY

• Marius grows rather fond of Virgil, and the sentiment is very much NOT reciprocated bc this angry knight vampire is not good enough for his vessel and he's mad about it.

• Yorgrim: I've only had my friends for a few days, but if anything happened to them, I'd kill everyone in Druskenvald and then myself.

• I fully expect for Jericho to somehow befriend an enemy in disguise, not realize, and accidentally fuck up the evil plan with the powers of puns, music and friendship (/j)

• the first time the party sees Jericho presenting more feminine, he's been lended one of Lethica's dresses after his own clothes got torn up and the rest are being washed. Marius has a nosebleed and faints. Briggsy is staring somewhat respectfully. Lethica is trying valiantly not to laugh. Farryn and Yorgrim regret not dying when they had the chance.

• Marius: i cannot have a relationship because I have sworn to follow the duchess of sin

Lillith: whoa hold up, Do Not use me as an excuse to avoid the cutie pie over there. Besides, he has a demon. I'm queen of hell. I can make a small exception.

Marius: shit

#1 Starlo's name is uncool on purpose might literally mean 'Starloser' It fits his character arc. In other words, he's not the cool, badass sheriff he pretends to be (he's not 'North Star'), but a kind, friendly farmer inside

#2 He definitely DOES care about Clover. Why else would he keep saying he's proud of them, praise them, believe in them, get worried about their safety, send them a warning letter, immediately run to check what's going on with them, get angry at Clover for not staying HOME (yeah he really did consider the Wild East their home) tell Martlet to bring Clover to safety, and jump at Ceroba to try and protect them? don't question the love of star daddy

#3 Undyne actually IS a badass. Starlo isn't. He's a softie who cares about pretending to be cool bc he's insecure, even when in a situation where he could die. He wants to be a hero. He wants to be SOMEBODY, not a NOBODY. Maybe he also cared about his own status more than his town, friends and family (which could be the reason he brought a bb gun). Or he just wanted to buy time so the others could hide. Now that I think about it, it's the latter. Why else would Dina say this in genocide after you kill Ceroba: "He was more of a hero than you'll ever be." That's the whole point of his geno fight that, and a lil bit of angst when roba finds him dying IT'S CALLED CHARACTERIZATION

#4 He kidnaps Clover bc they're a human. The only human who's ever set foot on the sands of the Wild East. He's obsessed with human culture. His whole life ARE westerns. Why? Whether it's the sense of justice cowboys represent, the exciting lives they live, or both, Starlo feels like he matters thanks to this nerdy interest, like he can contribute to his community

#5 i see Martlet as a big sis not a mom bc of how young she is, despite that one joke in bits & bites, but to each their own Star jails Martlet bc of the potential of the Wild East getting shut down. She did threaten to report them to Asgore and well... according to him, better safe than sorry. He even admitted he doesn't feel right doing it

#6 It WAS wrong of him to blame and attack Clover like that, all for his own status and ego (and to get his friends back) It's called a flawed character making a fucking mistake. Or did you expect someone perfect, with no room to grow and develop throughout the piece of media? Also, Clover is not an infant, they're a child. If it was meant to be a joke, it ain't funny bucko

#7 he either actually forgot about the fact he himself kidnapped Clover bc he wasn't in the right mindset (understandable), or purposefully ignored the information to avoid responsibility for his actions & shift the blame onto Clover (he IS flawed and thats more than ok)

#8 in neutral, he doesn't apologize bc Ceroba doesn't come and snap him out of his fantasy & mindset

#9 he did his best with the apology. you can't blame starlo. He's not very good with expressing himself and emotions in general (that he has been avoiding for so long via escapism; he also uses escapism to help Ceroba instead of talking openly with her)

#10 he doesn't know how the ceroba & clover interaction played out bc he was unconscious. Maybe he thought Clover had managed to talk her outta fighting. He says in true pacifist "Yall had a fight?? and the deputy won??" In other words he didnt know they had even fought. To add fuel to the fire, his bff just died and star, being the forgiving sweetheart he is, had wanted to give her a chance at redemption, but never got the chance to. He never got the chance to say goodbye, either.

#11 just bc starlo's an adult doesn't mean he can't have these flaws/behaviors. Every individual is unique. Starlo is deff deeply insecure and most likely autistic, too. Please think about that in the future, thank you

i’ve written two books on Ao3 but have well over one hundred on tumblr.

592, 245 (i literally never shut up)

oh goodness, my top likes have been taken by me yapping abt SOTR, but ‘House of Balloons’, ‘The Nanny’, ‘Cold & Calculated’, ‘Pretty’, & ‘Let it Snow’ are most likely my top five which is funny since most of them are series haha.

4. What fandoms do you primarily write for?

i write for the hunger games fandom, more specifically the TBOSAS fandom. i love evil coryo.

5. Do you respond to comments?

yes!!! since i started writing i have always prioritized interacting with those who read my work, it truly makes my day when i get asks/comments. :,)

6. Angstiest ending?

oh…well, ‘Pretty’ was very sad, i actually had someone ask me if i was doing okay mentally after writing it so i would say it’s pretty dark. also maybe ‘Field Mouse’, ‘Anything At All’, ‘The Witch’, or ‘Passing By’. any stories where soarynn dies always choke me up.

7. Happiest ending?

‘The Nanny’!!! it was probably the happiest ending i wrote, & i was glad to see it end bc it went on for quite some time hehe. also ‘Mr. Peacekeeper’ bc she got her revenge. i try to give soarynn some happy endings every once in a while i promise ;).

8. Do you get hate?

nope. thank goodness bc i really don’t know what i would do if i did. i also just write for such a niche area in the fandom, my own little corner really. the only time the alarms were sounded was for leashgate. only a few remember that one ;)

hell yeah i do. it was a bit weird writing it at first but now it’s like second nature.

no, i do try to make references to the original HG series but i don’t do crossovers.

well…i do have quite a few things that are half written. ‘House of Balloons’ will get finished, im just in a bit of a rut with that one. but there’s lots of things i would like to wrap up in my drafts. i do want to finish my ‘Born to Die’ series, i have two more to write. also the divergent series lmfao, idk what i was thinking with that one.

dark coryo. i have gotten so many compliments on how i write him which is funny bc i never really felt like i was doing groundbreaking stuff but apparently i write him quite well hehe. also just grammar, an oxford comma hates to see me coming. oh, & keeping with continuity, that is very important to me.

17. Writing weaknesses?

i feel like i use the same words over & over again (seems, truly, quite, &, chuckles) sometimes i feel like my fics all follow the same format so i try my best to change it up. i worry that im either being too descriptive or not descriptive enough. i am never happy with myself lol.

18. Thoughts on mixed language dialogue?

so i am going to assume this means two languages at the same time which i am all for.

19. Fandom you first wrote for?

the hunger games baby!!! best fandom there is :))

20. Favorite fic you have ever written?

‘Stay with me, always’ will always be my favorite piece of work. i am so fucking proud of it & will always look back on that time of my life so fondly. when it comes to tumblr, i do love ‘The Nanny’ & also anything petunia related. writing her is one of my many joys in life.

ok got to the end of the metaphor demo. it took like 10 hours. the thing is I love jrpgs so I’ll probably get the game for whatever black friday sale happens but I hate jrpgs so I’ll complain the whole time.

love the hieronynus bosch designs, intrigued by the inevitable metanarrative elements, and I do like that the protagonist is voiced and has a follow-up to whatever dialogue option you go for (feels more meaningful than the ‘yes/okay/sure’ choices you get in persona sometimes). I actually like where they’re going with in terms of ‘a hero without followers is a renegade that’s doomed to obscurity, in order to be a hero you need to connect with people and rely on their support’—sets up a good foil to louis and his… popularity/mass murder

the music doesn’t really hit (very high fantasy, might grow on me—apparently they’re using esperanto which is interesting), it’s definitely a LOT of telling over showing in the beginning with the ‘my village…! no I shan’t say. ok now it’s time to talk about my village…!’ and the ‘as you know we’ve been soooo close for at minimum 12 years and I am your best friend’ (which will inevitably even out after the prologue I’m sure), the lore-dump and ten billion words they throw around is always a little tedious at first (it’s so. greebly deebly.) and I hate monarchy. show me a king I’ll show you an axe. the thing is though, I tend to be :/ about monarchy narratives because there’s a lot of emphasis on lineage over. political competence. and with the hero/followers/king competition, this haaaas sort of turned into… well… kind of a democracy because it’s a popularity contest with literally everyone as a possible king and whoever’s got the most supporters from the citizens is going to be king, and also kind of not because one of the leading candidates is doing terrorism and has blown up the church and is killing a bunch of people and saying ‘make me your king or die’ and I feel like threat of violence and more mass murder should exclude him from king candidacy. anyway I took a bunch of pics and forgot to post em while playing

3. honestly i think adam has shocking high levels of empathy. most people in his life wouldnt peg him as someone who would struggle with that but i think its what sets him apart from nearly every saw character. hes so isolated but desperate to understand and connect with other people, even if hes in the shadows

"We should go in here I've been wanting a new jacket,"  Sonic says gesturing to a little vintage shop.

"You're got it," North pipes up bolting to the door so he can hold it open for us.

We've been together for a few months now and decided it would be nice to have a nice shopping date where we walk around a bunch of small shops and just exist with each other. I started liking them when I was staying with Alan, they were just such a different energy than I was used to. They're always so lively and happy all the time and it's hard to not have it infected you too.

When we told everyone about our relationship they were all so supportive, though a little shocked that North and Sonic hadn't been together for a while and hadn't told anyone yet. I had been too honestly but what matters is we are all together now.

We walked around the shop together for a while before North got distracted by the wall of trinkets on the side of the store and wondered off. I stayed with Sonic helping him pick out some jackets. At one point he slips his hand out of mine to grab some bright green and black jacket so I slip my hand in his back pocket.

He gets the jacket half off the hanger when we hear North start giggling so loud it was like he's right next to us. We look over at him and he just waves us over.

"GUYS HOW FUNNY WOULD IT BE IF WE GAVE THIS TO ALAN!!" He shouts bouncing up and down like a kid who just ate a shit load of candy.

"TOMORROWS FATHERS DAY!" Sonic chimes in instantly matching his energy.

"We could get him a card too," I add while I set my elbow on Norths shoulder.

"YES!!" they both shout.

After that's settled we walk around the shop and pick out a few more things before I pay for it all and we head home.

"Wake uuuuppp," I barely hear some voice call for me as I'm shaken awake. After recognizing Norths voice I ignore him and tuck my head into Jeff's neck.

Unfortunately he doesn't get the signal and continues pestering us or should I say me, he's leaving Jeff alone. I look at the alarm clock and see it's 9:30 which is later than we are usually up but we didn't have to be at the garage until the afternoon so we wanted to sleep in.

However it doesn't seem like I get to be granted that wish today. I prop myself up and see North, Sonic, and Kim sat up and snuggled at the end of the bed.

"What is so important that you couldn't wait until work?" I ask them. By now Jeff has also stated to wake up but still leans on my shoulder from drowsiness.

"So rude we come here to bring you A PRESENT and this is how you treat us," North places his hand on his chest to mock offense.

"You could have at least knocked."

"To be fair I knocked one time and you acted like I had three heads," Kim inputs.

"You know when you three got together I thought you would reign those two in a bit and calm them down. I miss those days."

"Get over it and open your present," Sonic says shoving a bag at me.

First thing I pull out is a "#1 dad mug" under it I see a cheesy card with an ice cube on it that says "ur a cool dad" with all their names signed in it. I hate to admit it but it was so cute I got over the fact that they woke me up just to mess with me.

"IM NOT YOUR DAD!!" I say throwing the now empty bag at them.

"You kind of are," Jeff says now that he's fully awake.

"You do realize that makes you their step dad."

"I can live with that."

"Anyway we have brunch reservations so we need to go," Kim says and they all tackle us in a hug and run out the bedroom door.

The last thing I hear is them shout "love you dad" before the front door closes.

"You act all annoyed but you know if you ever had to go week without their chaos you wouldn't know what to do with yourself. You absolutely adore them and their mischief as much as they love you and pestering you. Anyway I'm going to shower," Jeff says before kissing me on the cheek and heading to shower.

He's right but honestly I don't mind I love this family I have around me and wouldn't change a thing about it. I wipe away the tears that started building in my eyes before propping the card up on my bedside table and going down to make breakfast.

"Wow Alan you're really leaning into the whole dad friend thing aren't you?" Babe teases gesturing the the mug North, Sonic, and Kim gave me as I fill it with coffee. Everyone's over for our monthly movie night a tradition started as a way to relax after everything with Tony.

"AWWW you use the mug we got you, you do love it," North taunts from the couch.

"He uses it every day," Jeff adds from beside me.

A chorus of "awww"s sounds from the living room and I shoot Jeff a playful glare.

I am OBSESSED with dcmkdcmb rn, I honestly feel so validated knowing how many other haymitch simps are out there 😌 I want to get back into fic writing and was wondering how you would decribe your writing process? How much do you outline ahead of time? How do u stay motivated to write so much so quickly? honestly the way i write is a bit unhinged (or maybe it's normal idk) but usually i get inspiration for like one or two scenes in particular. so i'll draft out that scene (or the bones at least) and kind of go from there. BUT 9/10 the original scene does not fit anymore so i have to completely rework it.

for example, with dcmkdcmb i knew that i wanted there to be an interaction with colette and snow. which is funny that that's all i had to work with but i knew that that would be a big pivotal point. after that i looked at that scene and was like "okay, how do i get there" and worked backwards.

as for how much i outline, it depends. dcmkdcmb is the fic that i have plotted for the most, but it has also changed the most due to his book coming out. so many of the original scenes i had were tossed out the window after it came out because they either didn't fit the characters or their relationship dynamic/stage anymore. and it's okay if that happens! i just write out the biggest plot points that have to happen (i.e. the knife incident, the snow threat, the breakup, the makeup, events of thg). one thing that i hadn't planned out was the dove threat. i knew that i needed something to get haymitch to finally give in to his fears and feelings, and the dove fit his character bc he's the type of person to weigh the pros and cons/the probabilities of things happening. so on one hand, he's like "snow is literally throwing this in my face and showing me what he's capable of" but at the same time thinking "he sent this dove AFTER i broke up with colette, wtf else is he going to do if i stay away? not on my watch! 🤓☝️"

to be fully transparent, i have always loved reading and writing! (embarrassing but i used to write fanfic with pen and paper in my middle school geography class LOL i HATED learning abt rocks) it's an escape for me, and dcmkdcmb was my own one when my nana was sick and i was in between jobs for abt a month. i couldn't control either factors, so i focused on writing instead bc it sparked joy. i will literally put on a tiktok edit or song that matches the vibe and just lock in. and i love being able to go back and reread my own work and be like "yk what... hell yeah." so that makes it really rewarding for me!

so, honestly, write something that YOU would want to read. if you're writing for others and it isn't something you genuinely like, you won't want to write it! i wrote dcmkdcmb bc hadn't seen any haymitch fics that were either not finished, too short, or didn't fit my personal interest/style of reading. i love oneshots but my brain works differently and i HAVE to have a buildup before diving into a story. like "yes.... yes..... they have been fighting their feelings for years...... the tension! and now they kiss!"

Cast Away (2000)

A FedEx executive undergoes a physical and emotional transformation after crash landing on a deserted island.

JayBell: There are so many things about this movie that I love. The first part of the movie shows how much Tom Hanks' character is on the go go go. He's all about efficiency and productivity. Everything is on a schedule, even his personal life. At the same time, he's also a bit of a romantic.

It takes a while to build up to the big crash, but it's great for character building and raising the anticipation. The plane crash scene has pretty good special effects, even by today's standards.

I'm a big fan of survival movies, so I do love watching Tom Hanks' character make mistakes, learn, face setbacks, overcome obstacles. Having Wilson as a way for his character to bond with another "person" is so smart. Although it is strange to be sad about a man's relationship with a volleyball, it's done so well. You really feel like Wilson is the only thing keeping his character sane.

Usually with movies like this, it ends when they get "rescued." I like that they show some of his character's adjustment back into society. (the seafood dinner with food carelessly leftover, the lighter, the too soft mattress, him guzzling water from a bottle).

I only have a few gripes about this movie. One, why are there zero animals or bugs on the island? Yes, there are fish. But nothing else at all? Even a small scene of him killing a bug or chasing off an animal would be cool.

And second, I do think his girlfriend moves on a bit too fast, especially without the closure of his recovered body. If you do some of the math, she basically "grieves" for like 6 months or so, and some of those months were spent still trying to find him. I agree that they shouldn't get back together in the end, but I my brain couldn't help but do the math at the same time.

But I do feel like the ending fits. Now, Tom Hanks' character isn't on a schedule, he doesn't have a plan, which is so different from how he treated life in the beginning of the movie. And I like how the angel artist lady is included throughout the movie before finally appearing at the end, as if it was "meant to be."

P.S. RIP Wilson

P.P.S. I couldn't help but notice as he drives in the final scenes of the movie, he has a brand new Wilson. What on earth is he planning to do? Create a new Wilson with a face and talk to it and carry it around in society? Use it for volleyball? Doesn't that seem disrespectful? idk

Anzie: As this is my second time writing this review bc obviously the universe hates me and disagrees with my opinion on this ammmazing movie, this will be scathing. I hated it I don’t even wanna be nice anymore. I thought it was funny how Tom Hanks was obsessed with time and then forced to be on an island where time really is an illusion. I like the start when he’s still running fedex (totally thought he was ups but whatever) and the plane crash was really well done for the time and then when he’s on the island I start getting peeved. Has this mannnnn ever seen Naked and Afraid. Where’s the fire- it took him so long. He should’ve been a Boy Scout. Uggg. And the knocking his own tooth out. I’m triggered. And loosing Wilson. Lame. He so could got him. This is like Jack and Rose all over again.

And now my reallllll problem. I will not ever be able to watch Helen Hunt again. Okkk. So this guy that gives you a ring the last time you saw him on Christmas right as he’s boarding a plane that will crash- is stuck on an island for 4 years. Ok - Her kid is 2 years old - it takes 9 months to make a baby- ok so we’re already back in time where there’s 1 year and 2 months when she could’ve been hung up over him- soooo in the year following his disappearance- say she waited a month or two for them to find him- okkk we’re at a year grieved another 2 months- quick but okkkkkk met his Root Canal Dentist- which wowwwww- had a wonderful romance so in like 8/10 months after he was missing- I’m sooo sorry she got over him being missing grieved and dated and married this guy would is literally her fiancé nemesis and had a kid wayyyyy to quick. I mean I do t think I ever did anything so quick in my life everrrr. And I still can’t look at Chris Noth. I’m done. For my sanity I have to be. None of the math makes sense to read but you get it. After 2 months??? I think I’ve been dedicated to listening to a song on repeat longer than that.

I am glad he had his little friend to come back to- and I did like the whole angel wings artist lady plot but that veers to unhealthy kinnnnnda???

8. Common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

Literally where do I start. I’m going to go with the idea that any ship is endgame or anything can’t be forgiven at any point. I hate to be like this is the evil vampire polycule show but like unfortunately it is indeed the evil vampire polycule show. I’m lowkey becoming a bookgirl bc the lore is fun and I’ve created an interpretation that is just me cherry-picking from the book and the show into Feliksvision™ but it’s definitely affected how I view things so it’s always so jarring when people are like. “Thank god Loumand is over, Louis will NEVER forgive him and now he can focus on his soulmate Lestat” bc ONE. That’s giving Louis waaaaaay too much credit like I love him but the Loumand windivorce is all too clear to me. And like. Vampires forgive each other for some really crazy shit, sorry. TWO. They’re all in evil love. All of them in any combination. It just looks different from partnership to partnership. (Don’t get me started on the apparent fandom consensus on “Armand’s fanfiction” bc I am a lesmand truther they are SO funny to me I love them and am praying for s3 to shut those people up.) THREE. Damn let Louis focus on himself.

Another fandom opinion that bothers me is this idea that Daniel Molloy is a reliable narrator. I think it’s very important to the story that Daniel is making assumptions just like any other character and yeah, he has a bit of clarity via separation and being good at his job, but like. He has his own agenda and absolutely jumps to conclusions that may or may not be true. It’s very funny to me that people treat his conclusions as the end all be all explanations for things. Also bouncing off of that, I think it’s hilarious when people say that they can’t wait for s3 to hear the true story from Lestat. LESTAT? LESTAT DE LIONCOURT? That’s your reliable narrator???? It’s so funny to me. Why are the white men your reliable narrators……… not to sense a trend here but I’m sensing a trend.

9. Worst part of canon

Okay. So I’m going with the show here because we’d be here all night with the books. I hope this is a safe space to say. I did NOT like the s2 finale. I think it was rushed and wasn’t satisfying and I think Lestat saving the day in the end was boring and didn’t really make sense with Armand’s motivations. On a related note- I really hated brain ghost Lestat. I don’t think he was necessary and I think he detracted from a lot of the emotional weight of the Paris story… a lot of those scenes and especially Armand’s betrayal would’ve hit harder if he wasn’t there and we could’ve played the Loumand love story straight. I also think him coming back for real for the trial would’ve hit harder if he wasn’t around the entire season besides the portrait and hiding their connection. Please don’t get me wrong bc I think this whole thing is just making me sound like a Lestat hater. And like. I am. But I DO think he can be used very well as a character, they just overuse him. Which is very Anne Rice so the show comes by its fault here honestly. Still annoying though.

of the two, hya is more comfortable dealing with being in a celebratory crowd. it’s one of the many “wifely duties” in paramour — ie: managing the social scene and he’s been taught well by tagetes. i’m actually Not Sure what birthday traditions galeré has and that’s something interesting to think about but focusing on how we do birthdays TM his patience is so thin. like he’s not a huge fan of sweets but being sung to already makes him 😒—let alone when people start to tell him to blow out the candles JSSJSJ the only way he would is if aloe asked him to 💀 he also hates opening presents in front of others because He Will Judge you. if he thinks it’s a bad present he’d be all “and who the fuck bought this” and throw it out in front of you probably BDJDRJJ best bet is to just give him money fr he’s so picky and very few can get him to Not Complain about a present. (and before you think amon, it’s not. the only person who can consistently get hya presents he likes is tagetes which pisses him off SO MUCH LMAOOOOO)

🍬 Being put in charge of a couple rowdy kids

i’m actually gonna hijack this question to talk about the kids hya canonically has in his life aka, lavendula’s children. viola (10), barbatus (9) and rumex (6). viola (similarly to her mother lowkey) is very taken by hya’s air and mannerisms and has heard so much about him from aloe that she can’t help but want to be around him and be like him which. baffles hya greatly. whenever they’re in the same room she’s always trying to talk his ear off and it is SUUUUCH an exercise in patience for him. she does kind of win him over (aided by hya moving away and marrying amon pff) because she loves books and as mentioned, hya also likes books. so when he realizes that she can have an intelligent conversation about books and themes in literature he warms up to her more (well, as much as he can being himself).

barbatus however is a different story and is more of the rambunctious type that the questions talking about 💀💀 he’s proud and hard headed and defiant but is still yknow. a child. so he gets in over his head and whines and cries when shit happens and hya is exhausted with him immediately. especially bc barbatus is more of the roughhousing type and hya is having Literally None Of That. he tends to talk back and that pisses hya off so he usually dumps barbatus onto someone else’s hands (later in life onto amon mostly) bc he can’t deal with that shit LMAO.

rumex he doesn’t quite know what to do with and similarly rumex doesn’t know what to do with him. bc rumex has always been sickly their social skills are under developed and they have a lot of separation anxiety from lavendula. they also got the worst of their father’s abuse, so they see hya as kind of similar (authoritative figure) and keep their distance. hya doesn’t care either way but it’s something that distresses lavendula;;;

and under a cut i’ll put some actual prose regarding hya and the kids PFF. idk if or where this would fit in anywhere but it’s a good explore to who he is:

“It was very kind of you to invite us to your residence, Hyacinthus.” Lavendula folded her fan with delicate fingers and curtsied.

“Your niece was desperate to see you, and I needed to get the boys out of the house. For fresh air.” Lavendula replied breezily, and Hyacinthus regarded the young girl grasping her hand with a blank stare. She looked up at him shyly, wiggling her fingers in what could be discerned as a passable wave, then tucked her face back against her mother’s purple gown. The taller, older of the boys, that stood astride his mother with his chest poked out, piped up: “Do you have a garden Uncle Hya?”

“Barbatus, manners.” Lavendula scolded gently. The boy looked back at his mother, confused. “What? He is Uncle Hya right? Why can’t I call him that?”

“Don’t be bull headed.” Lavendula looked back to Hyacinthus, seeming to beg him with her eyes. “Do you happen to have a garden that the boys can play in.” She paused. “... Preferably one with a gate.” Hyacinthus snapped his fingers and a maid standing idly by the door snapped to attention. With his wave, she quickly scurried over.

“Yes, my lord?”

“See the children out to the inner courtyard. Make sure they don’t kill themselves.”

“Hyacinthus…”

“Isn’t that what children do when left to their own devices?” Hyacinthus gave a listless shrug, and the maid, happy to be dismissed from his presence, quickly took both his niece and his nephew’s hands, then with Barbatus trailing along, headed out towards the courtyard.

clone high final episode spoilers below! (9 n 10)

holy fuck im so happy. even though im super annoyed how they keep throwing a bunch of really good ideas for relationships and plot in the trash- im just so happy with what we got. 

OK FIRST EPISODE 9??? THE ANIMATION WAS SO FUCKING GOOD AND I HAD TO PAUSE BECAUSE WHEN WESLEY WAS FLAILING IN THE SEA, IT WAS DAMN smooth and pleasant to watch, as morbid as it sounds lol. that whole scene with the comic-esque vibe was so so pleasing. 

and that whole episode was super like, sad but funny. i literally stood up and yelled when Mr. B was getting near the edge. like i probably woke up every single one of my neighbors in like.. a 50 mile radius it was that bad im so fucking annoying about this show. 

BUT THEN SCUDS SAVED HIM AND I WAS SO HAPPY, LIKE THEYRE LITERALLY AN OLD COUPLE, AND LITERALLY THEY’RE FATHERS TO THEIR CLONE KIDS AND THEYRE ALL SUCH A BIG HAPPY FAMILY AND AUGHHHH im gonna draw family stuff with them so bad. I WISH THESE EPISODES CAME OUT BEFORE FATHERS DAY IT WOULD’VE BEEN PERFECT. 

ok, episode 10 i have to take a deep breath with. i am VERY happy. and idk if it was because the bar was so low, or if it was because i was so anxious i was vomiting everywhere because i needed content so bad, but i am overjoyed. 

THE ABETOPH CONTENT WE GOT WAS SO GOOD. WE HAVE LIKE... 3 NEW CUTE PHOTOS OF THEM HANGING OUT, AND LIKE A BUNCH OF MOMENTS OF ABE CARRYING TOPHER ON HIS BACK. was it because he was being tophers lackey? fine, sure, whatever. BUT AFTER THAT WHEN JFK BROKE TOPHERS PHONE IT WAS OVER (im upset it wasnt developed on further because people who didnt watch it in real time like us will surely be fine. so fuck you.) 

Also, ABE AND JFKS FREINDSHIP HOLUYDBIUJEWNFJKNF oh my god not to be autistic but i was stimming so fucking hard WHEN THEY HUGGED, I WAS LIKE YES FINALLY. FINALLLLLYYY!!! theyre my sweet boys and THAT WHOLE FRIEND GROUP HAS ME IN TEARS. LIKE abe and Confucius are already bros, as we see them playing in the school yard, and JFK and Confucius are already bros from the sleepover episode, but NOW JFK AND ABE ARE BROS. FUCK. YEAH. oh and tophers there too. i like how they treat topher tbh. like hes just there until he says something out of pocket and they’re just like stfu. 

but with the girls friend group.. oof. i honestly loved them so much, especially with cleo, but NOW ITS FUCKED. and its not even joans fault tbh. like when i was watching the scene where frida dropped joan i was like “damn” but then, JOAN MENTIONS HOW SHE HELPED EVERYONE BEFORE AND I WAS LIKE “DAYYYYYYUUMMMM UR RIGHT” so now im conflicted. But again like??? bruh i would choose cleo too tbh lmao.

Also, i’m glad clone college isn’t real. because jfk mentions about taking shelly to .. biology? which i think is a only 1st year class. and in the original clone high everyone is like “omg u hit puberty over summer” Which i feel is typically something thats potrayed in media AFTER middle school. but i could be wrong so, idk. just really glad they didn’t do the clone college bc i hate change. also theyre 16 lmao. OR MAYBE THEY WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT... in the future when highschools done?? IDK. IDC.

anyway. im scared for joans friend group and i fucking love joan, and i am in love with abe, toph, jfk, and Confucius’s little bromances and augh. im so happy. and THE CLIFF HANGER WASN’T TERRIBLE ALSO, IN MY OPNINON. 

im just glad joanabe wasn’t endgame. i mean, i would be pretty happy because im a sucker for childhood friends to lovers but also NOOOOOO joan deserves better. so. yeah 10/10
