Okay I uh
Another Mistakes on mistakes until.. fanart because I'm very normal about this fic yep
Funny story. When I drew this sketch and decided to color it, I also decided that I wanted to add some sort of color symbolism to it. You know, when colors have an extra layer of meaning that you can't grasp if you don't think about it. That kind of thing.
The whole vision sank with funny bubbles because I realized that I don't know shit about momu!Jazz except.... a whole lot of shit I know about him….that is so unreliable that a paper plane looks impressively solid in comparison.
So, yeah. I gathered all the colors my finger could reach and threw them in the blender and then put the blender in the washing machine. What color is anything? I don't fucking know. If you poke this picture with a color picker, your device will take -5 damage.

invisible scars (referenced previous talk here)
[ID: A colourless, digital Trigun comic of Vash and Wolfwood talking about Wolfwood's scars. They're both laying in bed and topless. Vash lays on top of Wolfwood, playing with the rosary around his neck. Then, Vash kisses a spot on Wolfwood's chest. Wolfwood asks, "What are you doing?" Vash smiles sadly, "You got shot here. In the last town we visited. You didn't even bother moving."
Vash props himself up over Wolfwood, who frowns slightly. Wolfwood is quiet for a moment before he says, "You remember that, huh?" Vash grabs Wolfwood's left wrist and brings it to his face. "And here." He kisses another spot there. "When you helped free the hostages from that robber..." Wolfwood dismissively says, looking away, "Was a lucky shot." Vash huffs, “Don’t brag. Jeez.”
Half of Wolfwood's expression is shown, eyes returning to Vash who is now sitting up, continuing to say, "And..." Vash goes on and kiss Wolfwood's right palm. "You got cut here, even though that girl was aiming at me." A moment from the past flashes, of Wolfwood grabbing a knife aimed at Vash, his hand bleeding.
At present, Vash moves down and puts another kiss on Wolfwood's right shoulder. "And here, from watching my back." Another memory flashes of Wolfwood and Vash back to back. Vash looks back as Wolfwood grins while holding Punisher, bleeding from multiple gunshots in his shoulder.
"And," Vash combs up Wolfwood's hair to reveal his forehead, "Here." A final memory shows Wolfwood with a regeneration vial in his mouth while getting shot on his temple. The next panel is framed in blood with Vash at the center, eyes wide and stunned in horror. The next panel is a closed up shot of Wolfwood's eye, locked on Vash's face.
Back to present, Vash’s head is bowed down as Wolfwood raises a hand to his nape and says, “Spikey.”
Wolfwood looks serious and frowns as he says, "We talked about this. Those were my decisions. They're not there anymore. Forget about them." Vash looks very sad before he smiles ruefully and says, "I still see them. All the time." He leans down so they touch foreheads. Wolfwood’s sorrowful expression can be seen as Vash says, "You protect so much. I could never forget what you've done to me. And many others..."
In the last image, they're drawn more cartoonishly. Wolfwood sweats and asks, "You don't actually remember every wound, right?" Vash points at a spot on his chest. "Kuroneko left a scratch here 7 times." Wolfwood, startled, says, "Why the hell are you keeping count—" End ID]

seeing some prophecy discourse which has once again reminded me why i personally find the prospect of dany as the prince that was promised really compelling. and it makes the targaryens so much thematically richer. like, they only survived the doom through the power of prophecy and then the visions marked them forever and this thing, this blessing which gave generations of targaryens some existential meaning eventually morphed into a curse which brought so many of them great misery—"my brothers dreamed of dragons too, and the dreams killed them, every one." (aemon, affc) and in due course almost ended their line once again with rhaegar. but then dany happened.
almost four hundred years since the doom when prophecy saved them and nearly killed them again on the trident, dany was born. dany who carries echoes of all her targaryen ancestors within her. she's aegon the conqueror come again but she's also maegor the cruel when she promises the khals who had hurt her khalasar would die screaming. she's rhaenyra in her struggles to wield power and establish legitimacy as a woman, she shares her sense of egalitarianism with egg, and she drinks from the cup passed from rhaegar, i.e. inherits (what he once thought of) his narrative destiny to help defend the realms during the long night.
dany who is both their beginning, since she's the first targaryen created and introduced to us on page and the narrative end point of their dynasty. which reflects all the way into her arc being cyclical by design as it calls back to the foundation of the valyrian empire in essos—during the fifth war the freehold torched old ghis with dragonfire so nothing would grow there again and centuries later this girl, the last dragon, is going to help plant trees there again. it's not about retreading old ground or rejecting her house words but about redefining what it means to be the blood of the dragon. which is not to say all that came before her was meaningless since this recontextualisation is only possible through the three centuries of ancestral history weighing on her. and dany's very existence echoes back in time because the prophecy itself has influenced the lives of generations of targaryens. three hundred years of history, all the glory and the horror concentrated in this one person-point. the prince that was promised not simply as a figure of the long night but as someone who is the apotheosis of their house. dany as both their beginning and their end, because the iron throne is presently a symbol of stagnation, a world in stasis, and it has to go. no restoration, instead the old world dying in fire and a new world being born in the aftermath.

Thinking about how Neil reached under his pillow for a gun and found andrews arm instead, how andrew wanted to be closer to him, how he trusted neil enough to dispose of one of his arms, left it useless and held down by neils weight so he could sleep knowing he was still there, still beside him, still alive and warm and breathing

had to draw this to understand the way i feel about him now that the manga's ended. 🥲 on that note: if you like hawks and his ending, maybe don't read my tags lol. it's not bashing (imo) but they're not v nice. 😅
bg + unobstructed pose under the cut!
his expression's a lil different 'cuz i only changed the merged layer, all the lighting effects already flattened onto it. 💀 alas.

Posting this because it's not getting out of my head-
OK SO some months ago, i saw a post pointing out how Wukong seems to have a thing with bows and ribbons, since almost all of his outfits include them in some way.
So i decided to look into it.
Yeah, this guy does love bows.
The only times i could find that he DIDN'T use any ribbons or bows was when he was possessed by LBD and, weirdly enough, in The King, The Prince And The Shadow.
(There are also two flashback scenes in the s4 special where he doesnt use bows, but I'm not counting them since it was REALLY at the start of Wukong's life and he probably didn't even know what a bow was. There might be more but I don't remember them.)
Now this is all cool and stuff(i genuinely think this is cool), but I noticed something in Season 4's brotherhood flashbacks.
As you can see, the other members of The Brotherhood may use scarfs and similar piece of clothing, but no one else really uses any sort of ribbons like Wukong does.
...that is, no one...
...Except Macaque. The person who Wukong seemed to be the closest to before the Journey started.
Guess who stopped using bows after their friendship turned bitter and the ties(hah) on their relationship were cut?

So ok, it’s amazing growth on the part of Lockwood to speak with Skull and thank him as he would a living person, when you consider Lockwood’s rage and grief always prevented him from seeing Visitors as conscious beings. But it’s interesting that it comes right after he examines Marissa’s “living remains”.
And it’s amazing growth on the part of Skull to save Lockwood just after this at all.
Because while Skull clearly loves and has a close bond with Lucy, he has no loyalty or love for Lockwood and he didn’t have to save them both. A more selfish and possessive thing to do would have been to separate Lucy from the Lockwood-and-Marissa-slapfight and just let the two be killed by the charge. Then Skull would have had a grieving Lucy all to himself. But right there in Marissa's office Skull just saw what happened to humans who bond too closely with a powerful spirit and how it warps the living into dead.
So he saved the only person who could stand between him and Lucy and protect her from him. Skull is possessive of his relationship with Lucy, but in the end not to the point of hurting her.

Here we are with xxxholic 88 - now featuring Watanuki in the naughty corner.
Or rather Watanuki wrapped up like he’s a cursed item? The Monkey’s Paw looked a little bit like this as well. I wanted to look into this kind of thing a bit more but the only thing Google will show me is Jujutsu Kaisen results so I guess I will just suffer instead. I’ll just assume it’s a seal unless anyone can tell me more.
Either way I’m fascinated over some of the small changes in iconography here. We have Evil Wolverine’s symbol on the pedestal but it’s not in its usual shape - here it’s slightly twisted like it’s an actual bat trying to avoid the moon, which is on the plaque as well. Watanuki has a giant sunburst behind him, with rays coming down all around him - and the sun as a symbol is pretty rarely used in Tsubasa/xxxHolic, since most of the cast are associated with the moon instead, except a few like Clow Reed. At the very least it gives a little family connection, even aside from all the spiritual symbolism.
There are little bats in the bottom corners of the page too, but they’re also shaped a little strangely, almost looking like evil peaches? Like that's probably not it but it's all I can see now. Yuuko’s butterfly is here also, sort of, in the shape of the incense holder.
It’s a very fun take on Watanuki - like a living curse on the universe made real, sealed away and hidden from the person who made him and wants to use him for personal gain. (Also like the Monkey’s Paw) It’s strange to see Watanuki in the framing as something dangerous, or harmful - but it links together with the idea that he is a glitch of a person who was never supposed to exist. And those sad eyes as he stares directly at the camera! Like he’s resigned to it.
The frame of the page is also giving Clow Card, which is really making me wonder what you would title this if it was. I’m open to suggestions!

okay when i started rewatching house, it took me until 3x15 but i started to notice a pattern in house's wardrobe. the scene where foreman was trying to express sadness(?) at house's (fake) brain cancer they were both wearing pink.
After that I noticed that any time house was wearing pink, they were particularly vulnerable moments. Moments that he's feeling tender or open. Moments where he is being pretty earnest.
Then I started to notice that other colored shirts came up at different times. Light blue was his most neutral state, it represents logic and reason imo. Maybe a little bit of humor. There's a lightness or surface-ness to it.
Purple represents something like consequences or grief or guilt. any time there is purple someone is bearing the weight of a decision that was made, or a complex situation.
Black represents, as you can imagine, death. the darkest moments we see house in black.
The other colors aren't as prominent, but I have theories. Red is sex, power, life, excitement, ego. tan is neutrality. white is almost naive. green is rare and house never wears it. Dark blue is still logic but more solemn, more deep. its also interesting to note the times when he doesn't wear a t-shirt under his dress shirt and leaves like 3 buttons open (hubba hubba) and when he /only/ wears a t-shirt. I think his dress shirt is almost like his armor.

If I had a nickel for every time a Jason died and were finally appreciated by a fandom in death, I’d have two nickels.
Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
