every few months I feel like making a post like 'physical weakness or disability isn't a character flaw to be fixed in fanon 😭 its not inherently feminist for women to simply punch good! making jyl a powerful fighter but affording her no inner life, opinions, personal goals, desires, or internal conflict is doing her a greater disservice than incorporating her physical weakness and her knowledge of her own status as aspects of a fully fleshed out character living in a particular setting and interacting with other characters.'

"You killed everyone I ever cared about and now all that's left is this goddamn orphan!" Yeah Wei Wuxian and Jin Ling should've tag-teamed his ass into the grave at that moment.

reincarnation/transmigration au where after being caught up in a freak accident both jiang yanli and jiang cheng find themselves remembering their past lives in the modern world.
now this wouldn’t be that big of a deal except in their past lives, jiang yanli was a couple’s therapist and jiang cheng was a divorce attorney who were incredibly successful in their careers.

one of the most obviously sad and frustrating things about wei wuxian is the way in which everyone assumes the worst of him All Of The Time. whilst this clearly encompasses classist rich dicks like jin zixun and the people who make up evil myths about the yiling patriarch, even ostensibly virtuous characters like nie mingjue and lan xichen are constantly suspicious of him. jiang cheng is a classic example - despite loving his brother, he finds it easier to believe that he's lazy or out of control than interrogate his motives. even love of my life lan wangji, prior to wwx's resurrection, doesn't stop to consider that wwx might have good reasons for not retaking the sword path beyond a greed for power so out of character, it's laughable. having said all of that:
SHOUTOUT TO JIANG YANLI WHO NOT ONLY LOVED HER BROTHER DEEPLY, BUT FIERCELY AND DEMONSTRABLY. SHE *ALWAYS* ASSUMED THE BEST OF HIM AND DEFENDED HIM. GRIEF NEVER BLINDED HER. IRONICALLY, CONSIDERING HER BUDGET MR-DARCY-ASS HUSBAND, THE WORD ""PREJUDICE"" DID NOT EXIST IN HER VOCABULARY. JIANG YANLI SAW THE SOCIAL HORRORS OF THE CULTIVATION WORLD AND SAID NOT TODAY AND NEVER MY A-XIAN. I MISS HER. JYL FOR CHIEF CULTIVATOR 623 BC.

“Your welcome was rather disappointing, Jiang-zongzhu,” Jin Zixun calls mockingly. “Even your husband here failed to make us feel at home.” The obvious baiting is answered with a dangerously still, silent courtyard. Jin Zixun throws a glance at the three cultivators keeping Lan Wangji kneeling, chin tipped in a wordless order.
The blade hooked beneath Lan Wangji’s throat digs deeper, drawing more blood and he knows without looking that the red on the front of his robes is growing. Still no response. Lan Wangji can feel his wife’s presence, along with a handful of other qi signatures he recognizes as Jiang senior disciples. And he prays she doesn’t come out.
Jin Zixun’s grin is feral. “Very well.” But before the blade slides home and ends it all, the doors are flung wide and Jiang Cheng emerges. A silent breath escapes him. He should have known his Wanyin would not stand by. It is not in her nature.
Hair unbound and eyes flickering with Zidian’s energy, she looks like a wrathful goddess of lightning. Even where he’s forced to kneel, Lan Wangji can feel the electricity thrumming through his wrecked meridians, thinned to the point of snapping. Sandu’s naked blade gleams wickedly in one hand. And in the other, she carries their son.
She is not like his mother, bowing her head with furious acceptance of her fate and allowing her sons to be dragged away from her. She is not like her own mother, vicious in her pride and arrogance, blind to the needs of her children.
Jiang Cheng would do the impossible for those she loves. That is her strength.
Lan Wangji knows that there is no safer place for their son than in her arms.

I don't go there (CQL) so my knowledge of the live action is only fandom osmosis but sometimes I stare in the distance about JYL/WWX or JYL/JC/WWX and how they aren't bigger ships over there
"the three of us will never be separated" what an utterly deranged thing for the eldest daughter to say. Jiang-guniang please explain. Is this meant to be representative of JYL giving up on her hopes of marrying the guy she likes because their betrothal was broken? Is this JYL writing herself a little gothic miserable storyline, about everything else being lost to them, and thus they can and will wither and die together as the last of the Jiang and that's okay? Is JYL starting to picture a future where she married WWX? How much dying inside is she? Does she like that idea?
truly what the FUCK, JYL. what insane fantasies are running through your mind rn.

Council of lovefools.
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#jiang yanli#jiang cheng#They don't have an actual sleepover in this scene but the vibes were so sleepover coded...I had to get them cozied up.#Late night talks with friends and family are some of the best conversations.#My siblings and I used to have room sleepovers with each other (Actually an excuse to stay up and talk about runescape)#Currently my flatmates and I also have really great heart to hearts late into the night.#Pondering shit like 'What defines confidence?“ and ”Why are people terrified of letting themselves fall in love?"#All that aside; There is a really great conversation between JC and WWX here. They are so close and yet so far way from each other!#Fundamentally they *agree* about many things - but JC now has to play the role of someone more 'mature'.#His temper is reigned in and he had to take a more nuanced approach. Whereas WWX can be far more reactionary.#JC has changed to become someone more mature (or at least he is trying).#Contrast this attitude with the scene *right* after where WWX literally goes baby mode with JYL. Rolling around going “I'm Fwee years old”.#When children are hurt we comfort them with hugs and warm food and a laugh. It's not enough when you're an adult. It's not simple anymore.#WWX is stuck in the past when everyone else is shifting and moving on! It's a depression allegory (and just...actual depression)#But we also get to see how some things have stayed the same. They still bicker about soup. They still tease. They are still together.#They all care for each other very much but they are struggling against trauma and are not equipped to talk about it.#You can't really blame WWX for being so protective over JYL. But JC is right: “You don't have a say in who she likes.”#It may have started as an arranged marriage but *she* is *choosing* what her heart wants. JC sees that. WWX cannot.#The final act of love is letting go after all.

The Untamed
Hearing this, he spat, "Fooling around again! Your sect leader, I, has already poured you a bowl and put it outside. Kneel for me to express your gratitude and go drinking your soup outside."
Wei Wuxian skipped outside before he turned around and came back, "What do you mean by this, Jiang Cheng? Where's the meat?"
Jiang Cheng, "Finished it. There're only lotus roots left. Don't eat them if you don't want to."
Wei Wuxian attacked with his elbow, "Spit out the meat!"
Jiang Cheng, "No objections. I'll spit them out and let's see if you'll eat them!"
Seeing that they started to argue again, Jiang Yanli quickly interrupted, "Okay, okay. How old are you two, fighting over some meat? I'll just make another jar..."
The lotus pork rib soup that Jiang Yanli made was Wei Wuxian's favorite.
Aside from how it was really delicious, it was also because he'd always recall what happened the first time, he had it.
[...]
Having stayed up for almost half of the night, the two had grown hungry as well. And so, Jiang Yanli went to the kitchen and busied herself for a while, standing on tiptoe. She warned up a bowl of lotus pork rib soup for each of them. The aroma wrapped itself around his heart, lingering.

I was trying to make an 'innocent adult minor' joke on the wwx poll but the thing is he literally was 17 or 18 max in that scene, he's been abused for years by his foster mother, as a child he's expected to take responsibility for the jiangs as their servant, he did just get done fighting in a horrifically traumatizing war in which he lost most of his family, friends, home, gc, and (in his mind) his future as a cultivator and his future with someone he really cared about, and also he's literally an orphan so if he pretends to be a toddler sometimes to get comfort and affection in a way that means he doesn't have to be vulberable then who cares

Do you think Jiang Cheng even thought about his sister at all when he gave up on living after his core was melted?
Jiang Cheng didn’t even think of his own family when their dead bodies were splayed out in front of him:
With much fervor, Jiang Cheng was still searching with his eyes for the figures of Yu ZiYuan and Jiang FengMian. Wei WuXian, however, felt his eyes tear up at once. Among the people, he saw many familiar silhouettes.

…and you think I’d believe he had a sparing thought for his sister in out-of-sight-out-of-mind Meishan? Lol. Lmao even.
But seriously, he doesn't think of her or anyone else for that matter because his concern was getting revenge, and if he couldn't get his vengeance, he had nothing to live for:
[Jiang Cheng] did wake up, but he didn’t move at all. He was so uninterested that he didn’t even turn around or ask ‘where is this’. He didn’t drink any water, he didn’t eat any food. It seemed that all he sought for was death. Wei WuXian, “Do you really want to die?” Jiang Cheng, “I can’t seek revenge even when I’m alive. Why shouldn’t I die? Maybe I’ll be able to turn into a ferocious ghost.” Wei WuXian, “You’ve been undergoing soul-calming ceremonies ever since you were young. You won’t be able to turn into a ferocious ghost even after you die.” Jiang Cheng, “If I can’t seek revenge no matter if I’m dead or alive, then what’s the difference between the two?” After he said this, he wouldn’t speak again no matter what.

absolutely fucked up thinking about how both jiang cheng and jiang yanli have codependent abandonment issues and their worst fears are their family falling apart and being left behind, and what does wei wuxian do? he fucking leaves
