i want a cracker

slow living reader and sev having a baby? 🥹
AWE of course!
also! this is the fifth little blurb for this series so i'm giving it an emoji on my masterlist! 💐 lets do a little bouquet of flowers because i picture a bunch of wildflowers surrounding your garden :)
men and minors dni
sevika doesn't fuck around when it comes to your pregnancy. so while you're used to getting up in the early morning and spending a couple hours on your hands and knees in the garden and hauling wheelbarrows around your property-- the moment you find out you're pregnant, sevika puts you on a ban from all physical activity.
it's ridiculous. you're barely three weeks pregnant, and sevika's insisting on helping you carry a gallon of milk in from the goat pen. just a gallon.
it's sort of nice though. your baby certainly takes after sevika, if it's appetite is anything to go by. while you're usually happy snacking on snap peas and berries from your garden all day until dinner, where you eat a hearty meal cooked by sevika: now you're shoveling half a dozen scrambled eggs down your throat in the morning, eating through a month's worth of cheese and crackers in the afternoon, and snacking on spicy pickles when you can't sleep in the middle of the night.
sevika finds it hilarious. you guys buy a few more ducks to keep up with the rate your house is eating eggs.
as annoying as she is when she's insisting you don't do anything, she does a fairly decent job of handling the garden herself. after a few afternoons of standing over her to supervise as she weeded to make sure she didn't pull any of your crops on accident, she made a little custom set up for you in the garden: a big sun umbrella covering a reclining lawn chair, a battery-powered fan, ice-cold pitcher of water, and big bowl of sunflower seeds waiting for you each afternoon.
it's become your favorite part of the day: lounging and snacking and chatting with your wife while she learns more about the garden, one of your hands on your growing belly, the other reaching out to pull sevika down for a kiss every ten minutes.
the cats start becoming really protective of you. a few of the older mother goats do too-- recognizing that you're pregnant. you never have a moment to yourself once you start showing, there's always a cat or two standing on guard to make sure you're okay while you wander around your home.
what you used to call 'the cats room' is now your baby's. all the cat trees, beds, and toys have migrated to the basement to make room for a bunch of furniture sevika hand-made.
a crib that can transform into a kids' bed when the kid gets older, a dresser that can last a lifetime, a rocking chair and stool for you to nurse in, and a gorgeous bookshelf for you to fill with toys and books for your baby. sevika made it all in at her little woodworking station in the storage shed by the goat's pen. each piece of furniture is inscribed with a message that makes you sob each time you see it, a simple, sweet, 'for our sweet baby.'
you know that once the baby comes, it'll be a few years before you and sevika can fully adjust and get back to growing all your own food. so, you guys start stocking up on produce and meat-slabs from local farms nearby.
you don't make it to the hospital when the baby comes. you planned to deliver in the hospital, you wanted a fucking epidural, but your baby came out of nowhere a week early.
one minute you were laughing at sevika struggling to prune the watermelon vines, the next minute your water was breaking and you were going into labor right on the reclining chair you'd spent a majority of your pregnancy on.
it doesn't take long to realize that you're not going to make it to the hospital. you know something's wrong when you try to stand.
"sevika!" you gasp. she's staring at you like a deer in headlights as she holds you up.
"what, honey, what's wrong?"
"fuck, baby, i think it's coming now." you whine.
sevika sits you back down on the chair, helps you get your bottom half naked, then looks between your legs.
"is it bad?" you start to cry, the pain and adrenaline needing an escape.
sevika's panicked, you can see it in her eyes, but she doesn't let it show as she speaks. "it's exactly what it's supposed to be, baby. but i think you're right. i think you gotta push."
you start to freak out. "sevika! we can't have our baby here! it's the garden, there's dirt everywhere! we don't even have clean towels and fuck!" you growl as a contraction overtakes you. sevika's pressing kisses to your knuckles as you grip her hands. "sevika, you're not a doctor!" you cry.
she chuckles, reaches up to kiss your head, and then kneels between your legs again.
"i delivered the goats when marnie got pregnant a few years ago." she tries.
"i'm not a fucking goat!" you scream.
and then--
little tiny cries fill the garden, and all your pain washes away. sevika looks up from between your legs, grinning and sobbing, and then she stands.
and wiggling and screaming in her arms, umbliical cord still attatched, is your little fucker.
"it's a girl." she whispers, leaning down to pass the baby to you.
you take a shaky breath, and then burst into tears upon seeing your baby. she looks just like sevika. it's uncanny. "she's so fucking beautiful." you cry.
sevika wraps your baby up in her shirt, cuts the cord with the gardening shears, and throws your placenta right on top of the compost pile before she starts guiding the two of you toward the car to take you to the hospital.
you have to keep reminding her to drive-- she'll pull up to a red light and get distracted looking at you and your baby in your arms in the passenger's seat. you get honked at a few times, but you don't mind.
not when she's looking at you like that and you've got her baby in your arms.

New York Luck
Pairing: Mat Barzal x Reader
Summary: After a lovely holiday, your partner breaks up with you and so you turn to your only friend in the city.
Word Count: 1055
A/N: I'm not super happy with this. I feel like it's rushed but I want to put it out anyway.
<< PREVIOUS
THE MASTERLIST JOIN THE TAGLIST HOCKEY DISCORD
Why is it that every time you come to New York, something bad happens. The last time you had gotten your shitty diagnosis. This time your current boyfriend and yourself had decided to go on a holiday to Hawaii for a week and of course, an hour after landing back in New York he decided to break your heart.
Something about not being ready for a relationship. Apparently. And here you were ready to tell him I love you on your holiday but held back because he was a little distant at night. That’s why you’re now standing in a Walmart; wearing a pair of sunglasses trying to find food.
Sadly you can’t even go home. In three days you have to have another surgery. A different one to the last time you were in New York. Now you’re stuck in the city, alone and crying your eyes out. Dealing with health issues and a break up. What a great combo. And to make things worse, you can’t even drink away your emotions!
Aisle by aisle, you grab chocolate, some cupcakes, cheese and crackers, a bit of everything. Oh and a bottle of coke, can’t forget it. That’s when you heard a familiar voice calling your name. You turned to where the voice came from.
“Mat?”
One of the few people you knew in the city. Mat wasn’t a stranger to you. Quite the opposite actually. The pair of you grew up together then reconnected later on once he had been drafted. After a couple hook ups since the reunion, you two were close when you did meet up.
“Are you okay?” Mat questions, spying your reddened cheeks just under your glasses.
“I uh… Yeah,” You tried to brush it off. Discreetly wiping the stray tears that dripped down your cheeks. “Just some personal stuff.”
The hockey player wasn’t buying it. He had known you long enough to see through your lies. Even if they were really bad like the one you just told. “Okay, what’s up? I know that’s a lie. You were literally just in Hawaii.”
“Stalking my insta?” You joke weakly.
“Gotta see what my favourite girl is up to.”
That made your heart hurt more. Here Mat was calling you that where as your ex could barely call you his girlfriend in front of his friends. God, you thought your relationship was great. Fuck. How could you be so blind.
“Yeah we got back this morning and then he broke up with me an hour after we landed.”
Mat immediately brought you in for a hug. “Shit. He’s an asshole for that.”
“Doesn’t help I have surgery friday,” You add, sniffling.
“Another one?” Mat sighs. “He’s a coward for breaking up with you before that. It’s a dick move.”
You shrug off the comment. “I’d rather him do it now then drag it out. Now I can just focus on myself. Gonna get snacks and have a night in my hotel. Maybe get ice cream from the place next door.”
“Can I join?” Mat asked.
“Are you sure?”
Matt agreed and the two of you finished grabbing snacks for the night and finished Mat’s shopping. He brought groceries for his apartment so the two created a plan. First, drop off Mat’s groceries to his apartment. Then head to your hotel to have a chill night.
You two arrived back at your hotel, which was quite a fancy one since you and your partner had planned to stay there together. First, before retreating to your bedroom, you stopped by the ice cream place and got way too much. Enough that Mat’s nutritionist would cry at the thought of the hockey player consuming all that sugar.
“This is nice.” The two of you walked into the nice hotel room. A modern style hotel room on the 9th floor. A king sized bed in the middle with the bathroom off to the left as you walked in. There was even a window with a blind in the shower. “Have you stayed here before?”
“Yeah, my ex worked nearby so I’d stay when I’d come to visit him,” You respond.
Mat grabbed the bag of snacks and put that on the counter, wrapped you in a hug and dragged you onto the bed. The smell of his cologne filled your senses. Despite your old hook up ways with Mat, the familiar scent still gave you butterflies.
“I wanna have a shower and get into my pyjamas,” You sighed, pulling away from Mat. You grabbed some clothes and went to go to the bathroom when a sulking sound came from the boy laying on your bed. When you looked at him, he was pulling the puppy's eyes. “What? Do you wanna join?”
“Please?” You giggled and agreed, leaving him to join you when he wished. “Thank youuuu!”
The bathroom was really modern. A large mirror in front of the sink and a huge shower with a rainfall head. Your favourite type of shower. After turning on the water to your preferred temperature, you stripped and got into the shower. The water felt calming as you stood under the stream.
“Heya,” Mat mutters as he slips into the shower.
You leaned into the hockey player as he wrapped his arms around you. This wasn’t the first time you had showered with him. But let’s just say usually, a simple shower wasn’t just that.
“Are you okay?” Mat asks as you’re unusually quiet around him. That question just makes you break. A flood of emotions coming through. Mat was quick to pull you closer, tight against his naked body as you started to sob. “He’s an idiot.”
“What’s wrong with me?” You cried.
“Nothing. I promise you it’s him. He’s the worst person for doing this to you. He’s the problem.”
Once you had calmed down and the two of you had finished washing, you changed into your pyjamas and cuddled up on bed with a ton of snacks surrounding the pair of you. Mat had signed into his Disney. You allowed him to pick what the two of you would watch for the night. When you saw the intro it solidified the hidden feeling for him. It was your favourite show.
“Thanks for this,” You mutter to Mat.
The brunette kissed the top of your head. “Always.”

SNACKS ~
-The one where Gavi ate all of the snacks and Pedri and Y/N took care of gavi”
Pedri and Y/N had been dating for a while and decided to move in together. They found a cozy apartment in the heart of the city and settled in. They loved spending time together and enjoyed their new home. They loved each other's company, and it was nice having someone to come home to after work.
Their friend Pablo Gavi was always hanging out at their house. He loved to come over and play video games with them. He was a bit of a foodie and loved to eat all of their snacks. One day, Y/N went to the refrigerator to grab a snack, but all of the sweets were gone.
"Pedri, did you eat all of the snacks?" Y/N asked.
"No, I didn't touch them," Pedri replied.
"Then who did?" Y/N asked, looking around the room.
She turned to Gavi, who had just walked in. "Gavi, did you eat all the candy?" she asked.
Gavi hesitated. "Um, no, I didn't eat all of it."
Y/N raised an eyebrow. "Then who did?"
Pedri shook his head. "Don’t look at me amor, I didn't touch it."
Y/N frowned. "Well, clearly someone did. We had a whole bag of candy yesterday, and now it's all gone."
Gavi looked guilty. "Okay guys, I might have had a few pieces."
Y/N rolled her eyes. "A few pieces? Gavi, you ate the whole bag!"
Gavi laughed nervously. "Okay, okay, you caught me. I have a sweet tooth, what can I say?"
Y/N sighed. "Gavi, you can't keep eating all of our food. You need to save some for us," she said.
"Sorry, Y/N. I just can't resist your snacks. They're too good," Gavi said with a grin.
Pedri chuckled. "It's okay, man. We'll just have to buy more candy next time. You're lucky we love you, hermano. Otherwise, we might have to kick you out," he joked.
Y/N nodded. "Yeah, you’re lucky we love you."
Gavi chuckled. "I know."
They all settled down on the couch, with Gavi in the middle. Y/N snuggled up to Pedri, and Gavi put his feet up on the coffee table.
As they watched a movie together, they teased each other and laughed at each other's jokes. It was moments like these that made their friendship so special.
During the movie, Y/N got up to make some popcorn. "Anyone want some popcorn?" she asked.
Gavi and Pedri both nodded, and Y/N went into the kitchen to make the popcorn. As she was doing so, she heard Gavi and Pedri whispering to each other.
"What are you guys talking about?" she asked, coming back into the living room.
Pedri shrugged. "Nothing."
Y/N raised an eyebrow. "You guys are up to something.”
Pedri grinned. "We were just talking about how cute you are when you're making popcorn."
Y/N rolled her eyes. “You guys are such a dork”
————————————————————-
One evening, they were having a small dinner party. Gavi had brought over his mom’s famous paella, Pedri had made a delicious salad, and Y/N had baked a cheesecake for dessert. They were all sitting around the table, laughing and chatting, when Gavi suddenly got up and went to the kitchen.
"What are you doing, Gavi?" Y/N asked.
"I'm just going to get some more wine," Gavi replied.
A few minutes later, he returned to the table, carrying a large platter of cheese and crackers.
Y/N shook her head “Just some more wine? really, Gavi?”
“Hey I thought we could use some more snacks," he said with a grin.
Pedri and Y/N laughed. "You're always thinking about food, Gavi," Pedri said.
Gavi shrugged. "What can I say? I love to eat!"
They continued to enjoy their dinner party, chatting about everything from football to politics. As the night wore on, they started to get a little tipsy from all the wine. Gavi was telling a story about a crazy night out he had when he suddenly knocked over his glass, spilling wine all over the table.
"Oops, sorry about that," he said, grabbing a napkin to clean up the mess.
Y/N laughed. "You're such a mess," she teased.
Gavi grinned. "I know, but you guys love me anyway," he said.
Pedri and Y/N exchanged a look and smiled. "Yes, we do," they said in unison.
As the night came to a close, Gavi helped them clean up the kitchen. He was always willing to lend a hand and never wanted to overstay his welcome.
"Thanks for another great night, guys," he said as he headed out the door, a little tipsy.
"Whoa hold on right there kiddo, no no no you're not going to drive in this state," Y/N said firmly, holding out her hand to stop him.
Pedri chimed in, concerned. "Yeah, hermano, you've had a bit too much to drink."
Gavi protested, "No, I'm fine. I can drive."
Y/N shook her head. "No, no, no. There’s no way we're letting you drive. You're staying here tonight."
Pedri agreed, coming over to Gavi. "Y/N's right, Gavi. You're not in any condition to drive. Let's get you settled."
With a sigh and a grin, Gavi relented. "Alright, alright. You guys win."
Pedri and Y/N each took one of Gavi's arms and helped him stand up. "Bedtime for you, kiddo," Y/N said playfully.
Pedri chuckled. "Yeah, you're crashing on the couch tonight."
But Gavi's eyes grew heavy as they led him to the couch. "Actually, guys, I'm feeling really tired. Can I get a bed please..?” Gavi asked, his words slightly slurred.
Y/N laughed softly. "Alright then, guest bedroom it is."
With a little more effort, they managed to guide Gavi to their spare bedroom. He plopped down on the bed with a contented sigh.
"Thanks for taking care of me, you two. You guys are the best," Gavi mumbled, his words already starting to slur.
Pedri grinned. "No problem, hermano. Just get some rest."
As Y/N covered Gavi with a blanket, she teased, "Looks like we're taking care of our own little kid tonight."
Gavi chuckled sleepily. "Yeah, yeah. Goodnight, mami y papi."
Pedri and Y/N exchanged amused glances as they left the room. As they headed to their own bedroom, they couldn't help but smile. Taking care of Gavi might be a handful, but they wouldn't have it any other way.

I had a fun three-day weekend.
As I briefly mentioned earlier, I went to Chicago. Thursday I stopped halfway and spent the night at a bed & breakfast in Baraboo, WI.
Baraboo is where the Ringling Brothers started their circus of the same name in 1884. The B&B I stayed it the former home of one of the brothers.
More after the cut.
I like the shared areas at B&Bs. There were only three other people there Thursday night. I didn't really get to mingle as they kept to themselves.
That typewriter would have been fun to use for my blog post. Sadly, it lacked wi-fi and Bluetooth connections. There was an old, hand-cranked phonograph in the next room that was fully functional.
Downtown Baraboo has plenty of bars (because it's Wisconsin). There were a number of restaurants and cafes too. The two-story brick buildings I like in small towns were plentiful. I logged a lot of steps walking up and down the streets, peering into windows. This is another town where I think it would have been fun to stay a week and try more bars and restaurants.
There are two breweries in Baraboo. Of course I visited both.
The first, I was told, has better food. Tumbled Rock is where I went for dinner and flight of beers. My burger and fries were most satisfying. The beer selection was impressive. Each of the five I sampled I would definitely buy again.
When I finished dinner I drove three miles back to my B&B and parked the car. Then I walked to the other brewery, the Al. Ringling Brewing Co.
Inside was neat. The coolers behind the bar, filled with cans of beer, had wooden doors, mechanical handles, and glass panels. The bartender told me it was a functional refrigerator.
This place was also a former home of a Ringling brother. But it was a mansion. There used to be a bowling alley in the basement for the family. The bar top is made from old sections of the bowling alley floor.
One of the brews on tap was Cherry Pie Fruit Sour with Swedish Fish. The nice, young bartender told me the brewers add a bag of the candy fish to the mix while making the sour.
I said I hope a serving of it comes with a Swedish Fish candy garnish. She grinned and promptly brought me a glass of it with the a Swedish Fish garnish!
The mention of fish made me want to suggest a Pizza Flavored Goldfish Beer, or at least free bowls of my favorite little crackers in lieu of pretzels, but the bartender had other customers to tend to. I missed that opportunity to pitch my idea. Maybe I should write a letter?
During my walk around town I noticed that Baraboo has a bit of a continental divide in its middle. At Oak Street, the numbered roads change from Avenues to Streets, or vice versa, depending on which way you walk. You can be at the intersection of 6th St and 6th Ave, and the two aren't even perpendicular.
The next morning I joined the other B&B guests for a waffle breakfast. This time I socialized with them and the owners of the B&B. We learned about the history of the city and all about the Ringling Bros. and their circus.
Fun time. Afterward I took my time driving to Chicago. I timed it right to miss the worst of rush hour. More about Chicago in a later post.
#Did you see my notebook?#I carry it and my favorite pen most of the time#One time a bartender (somewhere else) didn't care for me taking notes - it made him suspicious of my intentions#That almost made me want to start a Yelp account and my first review would have been crabby#I didn't want to explain Tumblr

It seemed impossible that I had missed one. But I never found it. How can something be there, and then not be there? How do we forgive ourselves for all the things we did not become?
14. I never had the courage to buy bright green sheets. I wanted them, but thought they were too brash, even with no one but me to see them. I bought a set yesterday and put them on the bed. I knew that you would like them.
I feel like Spencer must have felt so many of these things in his life. I know these are all kind of sad, but I think they fit with a character who has been othered almost his whole life. I hope Spencer where ever he is now is happy. I hope all are happy. We deserve to be happy. If you ever feel like some of these things hit a little too close, please reach out for help. You are valued and loved. My messages are always open. I love you and I hope you're having a good week so far! Love Levi - ❤️

National Toasted Marshmallow Day
Picture this: a warm, crackling fire, the cool night air, and a deliciously sweet aroma that fills your senses.
Most people have fond memories of childhood, sat by a roaring campfire toasting marshmallows on wooden sticks… Yum! National Toasted Marshmallow Day is a chance to relive those memories, and for people who’ve never experienced toasting marshmallows to find out what all the fuss is about.
History of National Toasted Marshmallow Day
Taking a look at where this particular day began requires going back to the beginning. Maybe not completely back to the beginning of all time but, at the very least, to the beginning of the beloved marshmallow.
The namesake of the marshmallow is actually a flower (Althaea officinalis) but don’t worry, no flowers are now harmed in the making of this delicious treat! It was named after the marsh flower which, appropriately, is known to grow in marshes. The root of this flower was originally used to flavor marshmallows, but now they are made with other flavorings. But the name still stuck.
Some historians believe that the marshmallow dates as far back as ancient Egypt, when the people would extract the essence of the marshmallow plant, mix it with honey, and then turn it into a sort of gooey candy. Because it was so decadent, it was exclusive to the wealthy and powerful, such as royalty.
The marshmallow more like we now know it wasn’t created until much later–in 19th century France. At that time it was created sort of like a meringue–with egg whites, sugar, water and marshmallow root extract. They were then whipped into a fluffy, airy type of candy.
As they’ve morphed over time, the marshmallow root has been dropped, as often the eggs also have. Then adding in some corn syrup, starch, and/or gelatin for them to keep their shape.
It’s likely that the most famous treat ever made with the toasted marshmallow is, of course, the S’more. This traditional girl scout invented outdoorsy treat includes cramming a toasted marshmallow in the middle of a graham cracker sandwich made with a few pieces of delicious chocolate. The warmth of the toasted marshmallow brings a melty sensation to the chocolate and the whole thing is just a delicious, gooey mess of fun.
Since toasted marshmallows have become popular, it is estimated that every summer, about 50% of the marshmallows sold in the US are toasted over a fire. Now that’s a lot of toasted marshmallows!
Learn Fun Facts About Marshmallows
Impress friends and family members with these fun facts all centered around the glorious marshmallow:
Not all marshmallows are made equally. Some of them are actually not vegan because they contain eggs, or sometimes even animal gelatin.
Marshmallows probably first began as a recipe that was meant to have medicinal purposes, since the extracts from the roots were typically used as a remedy for sore throats.
Originally, in France, marshmallows were whipped by hand–which was a lot of hard work for those candy makers! Eventually, modified corn starch became part of the process that minimized the amount of labor that went into marshmallow making.
Americans buy (and eat!) approximately 90 million pounds of marshmallows every single year!
How to Celebrate National Toasted Marshmallow Day
Enjoying National Toasted Marshmallow Day isn’t difficult for anyone at all! It’s a simple and delicious way to give a nod to this yummy, gooey treat. Try some of these ideas for celebrating or come up with your own:
Toast Some Marshmallows
Of course it’s obvious, but it still deserves to be said. Today, of all days, get out there to a campfire or fireplace and toast some marshmallows. Have some friends and family over, whittle down those long sticks, build that campfire and get to toasting those yummy, fluffy, sugar-mallows!
Make Some Toasted Marshmallow Recipes
For folks who want to take things further than S’mores, there’s more to be done with toasted marshmallows! Try out these fun and interesting recipes for toasted marshmallows that will keep the family coming back for more:
Toasted Marshmallow Baked Sweet Potatoes. This takes health and deliciousness to a whole new level–and it doesn’t necessarily need to be Thanksgiving to enjoy this combination. Simply pile some mini marshmallows on top of a baked sweet potato and brown it in the oven until toasted.
Toasted Marshmallow Milk Shakes. After roasting those marshmallows, swirl them in a milkshake that is made with vanilla or chocolate ice cream. The smoky flavor combined with the sweetness is simply to die for.
Toasted Marshmallow S’mores Dip. Great for parties, this yummy dip includes cream cheese, powdered sugar, heavy cream, oven toasted mini marshmallows and Hershey’s chocolate. And, of course, graham crackers are the perfect thing to dip–but fruit or other cookies work just as well.
Toasted Marshmallow Pancakes. Make those yummy pancakes even dreamier by topping them with chocolate syrup and adding a dose of toasted marshmallows on top (a kitchen blowtorch is helpful for this one!).
Try Some Toasted Marshmallows Products
For those who don’t actually have a fire ready to get toasting, some companies offer toasted marshmallow flavored products that can be enjoyed in lieu of the actual treat. Try these out:
Toasted Marshmallow Flavoring Syrup. These types of syrups are delicious when put into hot chocolate, milkshakes or even coffee drinks. Torani and Monin are two of many brands offering toasted marshmallow flavoring syrup.
Toasted Marshmallow Greek Yogurt. One of the yummy flavors offered by Dannon Light & Fit.
Toasted Marshmallow Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. Whether eaten on their own or mixed with other flavors, these candies truly do taste like the real thing!
Toasted Marshmallow Scented Candles. Okay, this isn’t for eating, but it is still extremely delicious smelling! Many different companies have offered this scent including Bath & Body Works and various makers on Etsy.
Have a National Toasted Marshmallow Day Party
Grab some friends, family, neighbors and coworkers and invite them over for a National Toasted Marshmallow Day Party! Theme the decorations, food and activities all around the idea of marshmallows. Have guests dress in white marshmallow costumes, and make some fun decorations by stringing marshmallows on a thread and hanging it as garland.
And, of course, don’t forget to build a fire so that everyone can toast marshmallows until their hearts are content. While toasting, don’t forget to sing traditional campfire songs to make the time pass while the mallows are being roasted.

I had kind of the perfect day off at home. I was cozy and comfy all day. I never felt bad!! It was so excellent.
I slept okay last night. I woke up a few times. Mostly because my nose is so annoying at night. But it was good sleep.
When I woke up I decided to just chill in bed. I didn't have a text from James so I checked their location so I could be secure in the knowledge they were safe at work. And then I texted them good morning.
They had a busy day. And so did I.
I was so thrilled to wake up to my studio being clean. There just seems to be so much more air in here. I am just super thrilled.
As soon as I got up I stripped the bed and then went to get dressed. I felt very cute today. It was cool and wet outside. But it was warm in here. But I had my slipper socks on and felt very good.
I changed our duvet cover and cleaned the sheets and rearranged the bed. I felt good about the changes. I put away the clean dishes. I had cheese and crackers for breakfast. I felt really positive about the day.
I did some vacuuming and cloroxed some surfaces. Honestly it was just a really productive day and hopefully soon we'll get all the bags and boxes out of the way. But at least it's all ready to go.
I got in bed with my knitting. And got all caught up from the last few days. O'Malley called me that they were here to get their backpack. And I got to show them our apartment. Got to give the little tour. I love giving the tour. And they told me they were going to a place where you pay $30 and get to use all their craft supplies??? I hope it is amazing. I actually just checked out their website and they have one workshop on the calendar. So I said you know what. I'm going to send an email and see if they want to collaborate and it could be another space I could run workshops? Wouldn't that be amazing? Worst thing he could say is no right?
I spent the rest of the afternoon finishing my knitting and doing my embroidery. I did one today that took forever. Literally I think I worked on it for two hours with a lunch break in the middle. I had a great time. But I did not do any crochet. I only have 5 blocks left. I will finish them this week for sure. I just wasn't feeling it today.
I got cozy in bed. And soon enough James was home. I was happy to have them back.
James would order is pizza. And got me a soda. We haven't been buying regular soda the last couple of months. And honestly. Didnt love it. But that was okay. I don't want us to buy regular sodas anymore anyway. Only fancy soda and soda stream flavoring.
We had pizza in bed. And I've just been chilling and enjoying listening to the rain. Watching tiktoks and stuff. It's been a lovely night.
At 8 I took a shower and washed my hair. Me and James downloaded an app that is called Pokemon smiles. Where you brush your teeth (in real life) and get points to catch Pokemon and honestly following the brushing guide made my mouth feel very clean so that was cool.
And now I am going to go and dry my hair. And maybe soon go to sleep.
Tomorrow we are going to possibly go to port discovery so Anne can give us a tour. And I hope it's fun. I hope it's another good day.
I hope you all have a great night tonight. Take care of each other! Goodnight!!

Camino Day Four - just under 46 miles in. We’re really enjoying it and finding our rhythm. Eat, hike, eat, rest, hike, eat, rest and hike some more.
Today was cooler, overcast in the beginning of the day with a little drizzle in the middle … we all got out our rain gear, but probably didn’t need it.
We walked boardwalks along the coast until Agucadoura, then headed inland. We walked past an agricultural area with many small fields and greenhouses, yet we were still walking on raised boardwalks! We had our morning break at an eclectic home with free will snacks and drinks, and messy grounds as it appears they allow camping!
From there we walked into Apulia, where the costal and literal routes merged resulting in many pilgrims - those on bicycles as well! We walked down to the beach for a lunch stop. I wasn’t hungry and the din of the cafe was messing with my mojo, so I sat outside and worked on my blog.
Up the coast again, the we turned inland to Fao to cross the Rio Cavado. We wandered through really old wonderful neighborhoods - amazing to think of all that could have occurred there over the last 300 years!!
Across the river, we were in Esposende where we stopped at a cool stop decorated for the Camino, with vending machines and a “souvenir” shop where San and Janet bought scallop shells, and I bought a bracelet and stickers.
We followed the arrows for the coastal Camino and they led us through a really cool plaza in town with restaurants and shopping. Jeff stopped in a Pharmacia and was able to buy batteries for his hearing aides there!
Three more miles to our destination, an apartment we’d rented in Marinhas. Nice walk there along coastal dunes, except for the bikes on the boardwalk!!
Our apartment is ok, not great. We’ve certainly stayed in worse!! We couldn’t get the stove working, so went we went to the nearby grocery store, we picked up soup that we could microwave and cheese & crackers, cookies, wine, beer and things for breakfast.
A low key night, watching some YouTube TV and relaxing. The place isn’t terrific, but it is good to have the gang together. Jeff and I got the double bed tonight, Sandra and Janet have the room with the single beds, and Matt’s taking the couch!
Tomorrow we head inland for a change of pace, destination: Viana do Castelo.

18 Camping Hacks With Kids
By AuthorStephanie Lamberth
In a world where vacation prices seem to keep increasing, having an affordable family travel option is more important than ever. Camping gear is a one-time investment you can use again and again, and camping with kids can create memories that will last a lifetime.
If taking small children with you on a camping trip seems intimidating, it doesn’t have to be. We’ve compiled a list of camping hacks with kids that will make your trip exponentially more manageable and enjoyable.
Read on to learn how to make camping with kids a breeze!
Choose Campsite Wisely When camping with kids, it’s essential to choose your campsite wisely.
If your kids are young and newly potty trained, getting as close as possible to the bathhouse should be your goal. The last thing you want is to be trekking across the entire campground for an emergency bathroom trip in the middle of the night.
Older kids may not need the bathroom proximity, but all kids would enjoy being near a playground! Being near the playground means you can give your kids a little independence by sending them on their own while still being able to keep an eye on them from your site. It’s a win-win!
Try It Out at Home Your family camping trip shouldn’t be the first time your kids sleep in a tent.
Take a trial run in the backyard. Set up the whole shebang– tent, sleeping bag, night light, all of it.
This way, your kids experience all the “new” that comes with camping in a low-commitment situation. You can add some light to your trip if it’s too dark. You’ll know to bring a sound machine if the noises are too loud. You can bring thicker jammies if the sleeping bag isn’t warm enough.
Most of the problems you may encounter are easy fixes. Practicing will alleviate the frustration of trying to solve them on the fly.
Pre-Prep Food Camping with kids is a hands-on activity. The less time you spend prepping meals at the campground, the better.
Some easy meals can be prepped almost entirely before you leave your house.
Pancakes– Measure out pancake mix and put it in a Ziploc bag. Bring a liquid measuring cup, add the needed water, and mush it all together in the bag. Cook on a cast iron skillet over the fire. Burritos– Pre-make burritos (breakfast or regular) and wrap them in foil. Reheat them over the fire and enjoy! Chili– Pre-cook the meat and either pre-slice the veggies or buy them presliced. Add the meat, vegetables, beans, and broth to a cast iron dutch oven and let it all heat up together before enjoying. S’mores Kit– Pack sandwich baggies with two graham crackers, a marshmallow, and a piece of chocolate for a ready-to-roast s’more.
Invite Friends Life is more fun with friends, and camping is no exception! A hack for camping with kids is doing it with another family.
Not only will your kids have built-in playmates, but the parents can also split the load of caring for everyone. Plus, you can put the kids to bed and enjoy a drink around the campfire together at the end of the day.
Pack Outfits in Baggies Pack each child’s daily outfit in a zip-top bag to make getting ready each morning a breeze. Small children’s outfits will fit in a quart-sized baggie, while older children may need gallon-sized. Include a top, bottom, pair of underwear and socks in each bag.
When it’s time to get dressed, grab a single bag, and you’ll have everything the kid needs for a fun day of camping!
Glowstick Bracelets as Tent Pulls While we’re including this in a post about camping hacks with kids, this is a handy tip for any camper, no matter their age!
Once the sun goes down, campsites get dark. To make getting in and out of your tent easier at night, put a glowstick bracelet through the hole in each zipper so you can easily see and grab them.
They’ll stop glowing by the morning, so bring enough to put in each zipper each night of your trip.
Pool Noodles Over Tent Lines If you’ve ever been camping in a tent, you’ve probably tripped over a tent line. To make camping with kids safer, make those lines easier to see!
Before your trip, pick up a foam pool noodle for each line on your tent. Use a knife or sharp scissors to cut one side and slip it over the tent line once your site is set up.
The pool noodles are much larger and brighter than the thin tent lines, making them much easier to avoid.
Pack Lots of Layers There is some deeply engrained hatred of coats inside most children. They think they’d rather freeze to death than wear one. But the truth is, if your kid is cold on a camping trip, nobody will have fun.
Instead of fighting the coat fight, take a layers approach.
The same kid who won’t wear a coat probably won’t bat an eye at wearing a long-sleeved thermal tee and a sweatshirt.
Layering their clothes will help them feel independent in choosing what to wear while ensuring they’re warm enough to have fun.
Overpack Snacks If you think you’ve packed just enough snacks for your camping trip with kids… You probably haven’t.
This isn’t a rule you should follow on a daily basis, but when your kids are completely out of their routines and norms, snacks can save the day!
Grumpy? Here’s a tasty snack.
Scared? How about you have a snack?
Bored? Perfect. It’s snack time.
Do you get where this is going? Bring more than enough snacks for little campers!
Solar Lights Around Campsite If you’re camping with kids after a time change when the sun sets well before bedtime, having solar lights around your campsite will make your trip much more enjoyable.
A solar lantern can provide light for games at a table or preparing marshmallows for roasting.
Use yard lights along the perimeter of your campground. In addition to providing extra light, this will help keep little ones safer through a visual boundary line.
Throw It ALL Away Camping with kids is not a time when we must think about saving the planet through reusable dinnerware. This is a time when convenience is king and disposable is your friend.
Bring paper plates, paper bowls, plastic utensils, and aluminum bakeware for transporting prepped meals.
The one reusable item still recommended would be a water bottle. Children are notorious for opening up a plastic water bottle, taking one sip, and forgetting about it. Don’t waste your money or storage space on those when you can bring one bottle for every camper.
Keep It Clean
Stop the Bathroom Stink If you’re at a campground with vault toilets, they’ll probably stink. To help alleviate a fight to go potty with little kids, bring along something to stop the stink.
A dab of chest rub right under their nose will block the nasty odors with a pleasant minty smell. Just wipe it off after washing their hands.
Bring (a TON of) Baby Wipes Baby wipes are the Swiss army knife for camping with kids.
They clean dirty faces. They freshen up stinky bodies. They clean off dirty tables. They wipe down dirty toys. They do it all.
Bring a pack, or five, on the trip with you.
DIY Single-Use Soap To save space and the potential of spills, make your DIY single-use soap from any soap bar you’ve got around your house.
Use a cheese grater to slice a thin piece off the long side of the soap. Make sure the bar is completely dry. One slice should be enough for a single shower, so pack accordingly.
Clean Hands & Feet Keeping hands and feet clean as much as possible will help your camping trip with kids be much more enjoyable.
Use baby wipes to clean off hands before meals and getting into the tent.
Have a rug outside your tent to wipe shoes off and a bin to keep them inside the tent, by the entrance. Don’t let them walk around the tent with shoes covered in dirt and leaves unless you want to feel the grime in your sleeping bag all night.

7 Best Diet Changes that Help Alleviate Motion Sickness!
Motion sickness can strike anytime, whether you travel by plane, train, or automobile.
You may even feel queasy playing a videogame or riding a rollercoaster.
The underlying cause is a kind of sensory mismatch.
Your brain works all day to keep your body in balance.
When your eyes see motion while your body is staying still, confusion sometimes sets in. Typical symptoms include headaches and vomiting.
Once motion sickness starts, it’s hard to turn back.
Read more: 6 Nutrient Tips to Improve Your Health and Wellness!
On your next outing, try these easy solutions to prevent motion sickness and get fast relief.
Diet Changes That Help Alleviate Motion Sickness
1. Opt for protein. High protein foods are the most effective. Bring along a nutrition bar, a vermilion jelly snack or fill a thermos with a protein powder shake.
2. Hold the grease. Give your stomach a break from fatty foods, including French fries and doughnuts.
3. Time your snacks. On a short trip, you’re better off eating nothing at all. For longer hauls, plan on dining every few hours. Keep each meal small and high in protein and complex carbohydrates. Good choices include a green salad with chick peas or cottage cheese with fruit.
4. Avoid alcohol. Liquor will throw off your balance even more. Stick to water, juice, or soft drinks.
5. Enjoy ginger. Ginger is a traditional remedy for nausea. Sip ginger tea or swallow capsules you can find in health food stores or supermarkets.
6. Munch on crackers. Saliva builds up when your stomach starts to churn. Dry your mouth out with crackers, olives, or lemonade.
7. Drink a soda. Carbonated beverages may also soothe upset stomachs. See if a can of cola works for you.
Other Changes That Can Reduce Motion Sickness
1. Distract yourself. Anxiety increases your chances of falling ill. Listen to music or daydream about your beach destination.
2. Quit smoking. Tobacco is another irritant that also interferes with your breathing Talk with your doctor about the latest cessation methods.
3. Hold still. It’s especially important to keep your head steady. Buy a comfortable pillow for your trip or use the headrest.
4. Breathe in fresh air. Give your stomach a chance to calm down. Stay up on deck on ships or open the window when riding in a car. On a plane, you’ll just have to breathe deeply.
5. Take a nap. Fatigue weakens all your defenses. Get a good night’s sleep before departing. If you can sleep while you’re in transit, take advantage of the opportunity.
6. Position yourself for success. Pick a spot where you can minimize the motion and conflicting signals. Ask for a seat over the wings on a plane or the middle cabin on a ship. Volunteer to do the driving or sit in the front passenger seat of the car.
7. Put down your book. Catch up on your reading later. The eye movements add to the stress.
8. Switch off the videos. The same is true for watching videos. Listen to an audio recording or talk with your companions.
9. Consider acupressure. Bracelets that press down on a strategic point on your wrist may be a helpful aid. You can try it out by holding your thumb between the tendons slightly above your wrist.
Plan your next vacation or business trip without worrying about turning green and running to the nearest bathroom.
Getting motion sickness under control puts you back in charge and makes your travels more comfortable.
