once again completely random: but with the announcement of "Incredibles 3"; I decided to rewatch "Incredibles" and "Incredibles 2" again (is Incredibles 2 as good as the original? No, but it IS one of the better sequels they've made in recent years soooo there's that). But I hope with Incredibles 3 they have a time skip and not everyone as a baby, 10, 14 etc. Like yea the Jack-Jack shenanigans are funny but I'd like them to make a story of him when he's older and actually has to grasp that he has ALL these abilities (and they've established that he isn't the only polymorph (I think that's what Edna refers to him as), so they should make other polymorph supers like him) also what age does a super usually get control over their powers? Violet can make use her powers relatively well despite not actively using them till we see her at 14 in the first film, and by 10 Dash was Regularly abusing his powers to pull pranks on his teachers because he had no constructive outlet at the time, and Jack-Jack is still a baby, I didn't see him as having complete control over his powers by the end of Incredibles 2 (also could puberty cause a lose of control in powers? or maybe he gets more with age? who knows?)

Also, what kinda story could they tell with Incredibles 3? The first one was about Supers going underground and Syndrome's revenge plot. The second was Supers becoming legal again and Evelyn Deavor's revenge plot (also LAMEST name/plot twist reveal. You named a character "Evil Endeavor" like the audience wouldn't pick up on that?) Where do you go from there? I can't speak for everyone but the "legal supers" bit is done with right? Maybe we have more focus on the kids than the parents, do supers get to the age where they can peacefully "retire", or is it keep fighting until something goes wrong and they might die (like yea a lot of them were dying in the first one but that was because a lot of them were like Mr. Incredible, desperate for the glory days, and were manipulated by Syndrome into "hero work" where they met their demise)?

(Also side track but does anyone else remember The Futuristic Four? it was the less popular crossover compared to Rise of the Brave Tangled Frozen Dragons.)

As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.

good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.

sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.

so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.

one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.

The perfectionism of artists has them researching stuff in a way that only scientists can compare. Some artists become experts in biology or anatomy. Other special interests have them going down rabbit holes to make them better at their art.

Disney animators said "we are perfecting the code for this snow if it kills us" and researched and invented code until it acted like real snow in Frozen and snow scientists were like hey. Did we just fucking solve the Dyatlov Pass mystery. And the animators answered no. We made snow. YOU applied the knowledge and did the experiments to solve what could have happened at Dyatlov Pass.

And it was a team effort because of course it was. You can't have art without science. And you can't have science without art.
