“The Inquisitor And Her Commander”

As some of you may have noticed, I am a huge fan of the Dragon Age games, especially Dragon Age Inquisition. Last year, I had planned on drawing all the main [playable] characters up until Dragon Age Day (which took place on December 4th), but I just didn’t have time to draw more than three characters (the Inquisitor, Solas, & Varric…please check them out in my gallery) due to being busy with work and other things. I’ll eventually draw the other characters when I gather more motivation to do so.

For now, please enjoy this piece. I hope everybody likes this. I worked very hard on this artwork. It took longer than usual to create, due to all the small details, the poses, & the armour. (Armour is not easy to draw for me!) For those of you who are DAI fans, you may recognize the flowers: Crystal Grace on the bottom and Andraste’s Grace on the top. I know Andraste’s Grace is not in DAI, but I thought it would be pretty to add to the artwork (since it technically exists in the Thedas world).

 My OC Inquisitor is named Bryony Trevelyan. She is actually my 2nd Inquisitor character, the first one having been an elf (which I may draw someday). I had been playing DAI for the 3rd time, a few months ago, as a male character (since I wanted him to be in a romance with Dorian, so yes, my male Inquisitor is gay), but I stopped for a bit since I am playing Skyrim at the moment (with updates & mods). Anyway, back on the main subject: I drew Inquisitor Bryony Trevelyan in the Armor of the Dragon Hunter outfit (from the Jaws of Hakkon DLC), which I had altered the colours by tinting it with Veil Quartz. I based her crown from concept art for DAI. So much armour in the game! Which I love, especially since the DA games don’t give female characters the stereotypical skimpy outfits…I love that I get to make my female characters wear bad-ass armour.

Cullen Rutherford is such an adorable and slightly awkward character around my Inquisitor. I knew I had to romance him right away, because his looks are the type of man I am attracted to in real life. (I’m not going to lie…in the game, he’s hot for a video game character. Ha ha!) I’ve always enjoyed the flirting in the DA games when it comes to the relationships. The best scene was right before their first kiss, when Cullen got interrupted by a member of the Inquisition, and then got mad about it. Ha ha. I liked when my Inquisitor asked Cullen, “The day you kissed me on the battlements…how long had you wanted to do that?” And Cullen replied (with a laugh), “Longer that I should admit.” Awwwww.

I also liked the part in the Winter Palace, when all these people were flirting with Cullen, and one asked him, “Are you married, Commander?” And Cullen replied, “Not yet, but I am…already taken.” Double awwww, because a loyal man is so dreamy. :3 I actually had Bryony & Cullen get married in the last DLC. :3 They adopt a Mabari (dog), too!

I love DAI too much. :D It’s such a fun game with the most gorgeous graphics (especially on the Xbox Series X).

Drawn with Sakura Pigma Micron pens, then coloured in with a mixture of Copic Markers & Ohuhu Markers. I used Koi Watercolours for the background. White accents done with both a gel pen and white watercolour. Gold acrylic was used for the Inquisition Symbol & the lines, which the scanner absolutely murders...the gold is such a pretty, shimmery metallic in real life. The light green around my art was done in Photoshop Elements.

Okay for the image above I was doing a “mock” warrior cat book. I miss the old covers but anyway

I kinda feel my art is…boring. I mean it just feels that way. Sometimes I feel I rush myself to get things done, and to be honest I hate having to rush myself. I look back at my recent post and they just fall FLAT. Flat as in the colors are just boring as heck. Lineart? I don’t really like. Not only that but everything feels so unpolished

My anatomy/details

I hate the fact I miss crucial details of my chat starts or even other people characters. I mean, HAVE YOU SEEN HOW I DONT EVEN ADD SILKY’s ANTLERS 99% of the time? That bothers me. And I see other people add them and I’m just “well damn I’m so lazy I can’t even add antlers on my own fucking character”.

Not to mention the poses. Everything feels so stiff with me. So dang stiff that you may as well call my art wood and use it as a support beam. I hate how I don’t use references for my art. Maybe If I used them more and actually took my time stuff wouldn't look like your average horrific Netflix Original cartoon of some movie.

Backgrounds/minor objects.

Do not get me started. I hate all of them. They look so low effort. I mean, I know I can do better with them! But it seems like I worry about the main characters so much. In fact, I feel the background just falls flat or blends in too much with the characters that it looks. Messy. If I draw a cup, i'll skip over details and it will look awful! Which isnt good, as it shows im lacking severly.

Time

And for time I rush. I feel like I have to literally push things out by day’s end and well…it affects my art. Lately o just been so focus on the hour and time it just makes the art suffer. Even if no one else sees it I do. I love my painted style, but it takes quite some time. And forgive me but I hate just doing sketches to and posting it. I prefer my art to be colored in and all the way. Now im not saying i dont like it when other people sketch. That would be a dick-head move of me.

Some days I fear if I don’t post or read inboxes everyone is going to think I purely abandoned them. I try to focus on my page. but just giving them a sketch at the end well...it makes me feel as if I just dissapointed them. I think to myself and say "I could have done better than that. Why did you even do that in the first place {Name}. "

I have like so much on my agenda and plans and then i realize I can’t do it all in one day. Hell sometimes I just make one day spefically on one subject.

If that day was animation day; I focus on an animatic.

If a certain day is art day and I want to set up my commission page (which is so messy I deleted it) then that’s the settled day. But I feel like I’m going so slow. It's like I am running out of time, and time is just passing by as I look at my clock.

And I'm not blaming anyone it's just my stupid head that makes me feel this way. I know no one is trying to rush me. But head is like "Oh but what if- and why not-". It bothers me. It clouds my vision and i don't realize in reality...no one is saying the things my brain is saying. Sometimes I feel like I'm bothering people when i draw their charcaters so much and tag them. I fear they just say 'Aw great it's this one person again."Sometimes I feel I need to be MORE original. And some days i feel i just need to give up entirely. Some days I think posting everyday will aggervate folks. Sometimes I envy the attention of others, and when I see what they gain or what following I have i look back at myself and say "Well maybe if you did this better than MAYBE you people will be interested in ya". And damn do i slam my head in a wall. Everyone just seems so happy, and yet here I am fretting over if this fucking dog I drew looks remotely interesting. And I just feel it...blends in. Like what is there so special about my art?

MY BLOG

And for this blog, I don't know if I truly have an identity for myself. There's Silky, there is Minty and Syrup, there is Simon and there is Shrimpy. But who do they belong to? What roles do they even serve in this blog? I want them to be my identity. I don't want them being just some sort of character leech. They lack story, they lack purpose, they are thrown in tropes and gag. But what do they relate to? Nothing. Nothing at all. And yeah yeah I know im thinking to DEEP into this. But it's been on my mind so much. And hell call me crazy for talking about them if they are real, but they mean a lot to me. A LOT.

So I tried to make my art interesting here like, i tried referencing images space. I tried adding more anatomy to Snowy since I am tired of doing the usual standing up pose. I even wanted to make the background feel more detailed. I feel a bit better, but I still fear everything is too...eh...bland. Maybe it is just me.

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY Y’ALL!!!

Last year of being a fucking teenager! LET’S GOOO!

I wanted to make a special post. But I was too busy drawing Squirrel and Hedgehog characters inspired by the main six ponies from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I wonder what is the crossover between the SaH and MLP fandom. I know of one blog.

First of all we got Rainbow Dash as a crow captain. I think this is the first time I’m posting my new way of drawing antro birds. Previously I drew them with hands. They were supposed to be like rolled up wings but I don’t think I conveyed it visually. It was funny to imagine them flying by just flapping their hands about. Like the bird people in Bojack Horseman and Tuca and Birdy. It works for those shows but not for my edgy Squirrel and Hedgehog AU.

I made Rainbow Dash a crow because WE NEED MORE CROW OCs. The crows in the show are treated horribly! There’s no named crow character and when they show up they’re usually beaten up and killed. I want to make a crow OC challenge where we all make a crow OC (duh). I’ll probably make a separate shorter post announcing it. I don’t know how many people actually read these rambles. But you can start drawing your OCs if you want.

Now. Back on topic. Rainbow Dash. Her backstory. Simple. I’ve got NO IDEAS. Personality wise she’s the same as the show. Bossy tomboy.

Next up. Fluttershy. I never actually drawn a duck besides Murori. Well. And a couple background ducks. Which reminds me I should add wings to them.

There’s a little more to her. Once again. Personality same as the show. She didn’t want to join the military. Obviously, look at her! In my AU the Duck Village is very patriarchal. Women aren’t even allowed to fly. Fluttershy would be fine with that. But tough luck. With the war everyone who can fly has to apply.

Lastly for today Pinkie Pie. I could have done the pun of Porkie Pie but… just as with crows we need more rabbit OCs. I’ve seen one and that’s it.

The backstory for her is that she ran away from her abusive family to Flower Hill. She’s always cheerful and bit of a clown. Believing everyone deserves a laugh especially during something as tough as a war.

I had fun designing all of them. I’ve been watching a lot of Jackie Drojko on YouTube so I know this is far from a professional job. But I had fun with choosing the colours. Adding little details such as making Pinkie Pie extra fluffy and doing the colourful bangs. The second batch is going to be better. I got more used to drawing digitally again. I thought these glorified sketches would be done faster digitally.

With that I leave you for today. I got to eat my dinner before it goes cold. Please let me know what you think of these designs.

!!! I haven’t done a matchup in forever !!! Hope I did it right !!!

My pronouns are she/they and I am demiromantic? I cut feelings/attachment when I get really upset at people. I don’t mind any characters really! It’s hard to describe my personality but I am bubbly, blunt, sensitive but also real, I have ADHD (the kind I have used to be called ADD) if that helps with personality as well.

Besides ADHD I have epilepsy and my vision is not the best in the slightest :,) I also have a bit of hearing issues. My fashion is all over the place but: bright colors (mainly pink) I wear bootcut/bell bottoms a lot, I love t-shirts (specifically old-school characters) and stripes. I crochet!! Like a lot!! Mainly small blankets or plushies but I’ve made 2 failed sweaters! I also do cozy gaming and drawing!

How I show love is gift giving, words of affirmation, and quality time! I love to talk and talk and talk so that’s what I count as quality time just having someone listen or hear me. Music is just about as random as clothes! If a song is good then I like it! But mainly pop, RnB (80s - now), musicals, and classical music! I wouldn’t say I have a dark sense of humor but I am able to find a joke in everything since that’s my coping mechanism though jokes are always a hit or miss depending on the mood.

I finally landed on a butterfly! Because they’re pretty, love daytime activities, and bad vision. Butterflies are beautiful and fragile and I’ve been described as that since I am very short and been called pretty a lot 😅

From the beginning, she is very accommodating to you.

She has no problems repeating things if you didn’t hear it.

You bet that she is researching triggers of epilepsy and going through the Pride Ring to specifically find locations that have strobing/flashing lights and writing them down so you can avoid them.

She will also absolutely take note of parts of your life your ADHD effects.

If you have a favorite spoon, it is your spoon now. No one else uses that spoon. She is prepared to fight someone over that spoon.

It took a while for the two of you to finally get together. Mainly because Vaggie would go to confess and then freeze up.

Charlie standing in the background giving her a big smile and thumbs up did not help as much as the princess thought it did. She just didn’t have the heart to tell her that.

It wasn’t until you took initiative and confessed that anything happened between the two of you.

Vaggie absolutely froze and just stared at you for a moment, mouth open in shock.

Just when you began to think you’d read the signals wrong that she said she’d love to go out with you.

If you’ve watched The Owl House, there was definitely a moment afterwards that resembled when Luz asked out Amity and they awkwardly held hands after.

She will spend all day listening to you ramble and actively logs informations away about your hyperfixations.

She sees yarn she things you’ll like? She’s buying it.

You’re almost out of stuffing? Not anymore.

She has an entire bookshelf dedicated to showcasing all the plushes you’ve made her.

If you’re ever away for an extended period of time, prepare to come back to her asleep surrounded by them.

Vaggie is a fan of morning cuddles, you cannot convince me otherwise!

Before you wake up, she will trace the patterns in your wings.

If your wings give you any problems, somehow she just magically knows how to fix it. . . Must have researched it. Obviously there’s no other reason she’d know that, right?

You don’t even have to worry about clothing having holes for your wings because if you don’t alter it, she will.

Also, queen of compliments. She will compliment you all the time.

Be prepared for a lot of: “You look so pretty today, babe.” “Ooh, what’s this song? I like the rhythm.” “Your new plush is looking good so far.” “I love that color combo.” Normally accompanied by hands on the shoulder and a kiss to the temple.

She loves watching you crochet, draw, or game. She finds it calming.

Occasionally, she will try to join you.

She might not be good at it but she tries and it’s adorable to watch her succeed and fail. She makes an earnest effort both ways.

Because Vaggie is such a calm, attentive person, you probably don’t have many fights that blow up.

Even if you do, she knows to just give you space to work things out.

She’s not going to go away but she will let you breathe. She’s not a smotherer.

That’s why she doesn’t try to hover when you start avoiding her after it gets out she’s an angel.

After a couple days, she doesn’t corner you exactly but she does catch you alone.

She doesn’t say anything. She doesn’t force a conversation. She just lets you stew with your feelings until you either leave (in which case, she will finally intervene and stop you) or blow up at her.

Once you both calm down, you have a long conversation about trust and secrets.

She’s able to relax when she finally sees another plush be added to her collection.

How long does it usually take you to write out the comics

It depends on the length of the story. Little one-shots like Family Beach Day are short so I normally script that out in a matter of minutes haha

Of course it takes longer to draw it than to script it, but when I write scripts that’s also where I decide how I’m going to break up the panels and write descriptions of what the panel includes so it helps the process move faster:

But sometimes I won’t know the appropriate way to handle a scene until I’m drawing the actual comic, so I might deviate from the script or in the script I might have several options to try out and sometimes that experimenting adds on to the length of completion. Here’s an example from My Gal:

Drawing takes a lot longer too. Once the script is finished then I’ll do a bunch of resource collecting to help me find references for clothes/backgrounds/environments. Once I have all that ready then I can start sketching. Since I work a full time job and I only draw in my free time, this takes a very long time.

Also something I don’t think people realize, I don’t always get it right the first time. I’ll redraw a scene over and over sometimes until it feels/looks right. I drew countless different sketches for the dance sequence in My Gal and I scrapped a lot of them because it didn’t work.

Long story short, it varies. It can take anywhere from a couple of days to several months for a comic from conception to completion.

Here’s a fun question: what initially drew you to yanderes and the yandere vns community as a whole (so like what about the concept itself, and not the people you met, drew you to it)? Like how did you first find out about yanderes and what they are and stuff?

Also if you don’t mind me asking why do you choose to make your sonas cat hybrids (at least I think they’re all cats)? Like is there something about cats specifically that draws you to them and makes you want to incorporate them into the sonas in someway or is it more surface level of something like maybe just liking to draw cat ears? I’ve been following you for a good bit so I even remember back when you first created your STNAF sona/oc Clover and then when later you switched to just using your Si sona (since it’s definitely easier than making a new oc for each new game). I just wondered since in your post talking about why you started using Si/yourself as your sona you only talked about why you decided to use a self insert and didn’t refer to why you made/started making your Si sonas hybrids (unless you fid somewhere in their and my dumbass just forgot).

Hmm ngl probably stumbled on Yanderes as a whole while reading fanfics back in the day even before Future Diary and Yandere Sim really pushed them into the limelight and a little bit of carry over from some of the ex's I've had while being a dumb kid online with parents who didn't understand real online safety. (Like, one of them was one of those "Joker" bros for context if that tells you anything lol). While I do like the thrills, chills, creepy set ups and etc. that come with yan games, I'm also just a fan of vns and otome games in general and there's a lot of potential for some fun writing that goes outside of just writing full fluff and comfort- actually bonus points if you can fit that in with all of the fucked up shit happening around your character. uwu/

As for Si being a cat/animal hybrid- it's just something I've done since being like 11 and really learning how to draw since then + said time online and in certain mmos. I've always just identified with nekos/cat people and it's sort of been a little calling card I use for myself. Using Clover as an oc was fun while it lasted, though, don't get me wrong- but like you said self inserting is easier. uwu

Plus I've been teased/told that I sneeze like a cat on top of just sharing traits with them- so it just fits outside of the few different animals I make Si as. I'm already a human in real life, why not make it more fun and give your self insert a little flair? Sometimes it adds some fun background for certain games as well! For example- while in Seven Bloody Nights Si starts off as a human- if he ever gets turned into a vampire I wanted him to have the same sort of 'werecat' powers he has in other canons and to kinda parallel Beel in how he's a werewolf on top of being a vampire. uwu

haha… Ermm I have no idea how to explain digital art tips, BUT my method is: Force Fade when doing hair, Use a different layer for everything (in case you mess up) Understand and Use color theory, Use brushes with light bleed (My favorite is “Soft Mapping Pen (Bleed)” On Ibis paint and Procreate) Also Use a Lighting filter like “Add” if you want the illusion of glowing or light. OUTLINE YOUR DRAWINGS TO MAJE THEM POP!

So my dirty secret for that sketch is... it actually is completely digital! I drew it in a program called Rebelle 5, which is designed to mimic traditional canvas/paper and pencils/paints. I picked it up for super cheap during a huge sale last year, and it's a lot of fun; unfortunately, it's usually pretty expensive, as many art programs are. I highly recommend keeping an eye out for sales though if you ever get into digital drawing--and if you'd like a free program, the one I use most of the time is MediBang. But those programs are really mostly helpful for digital art, not so much for scanning actual pencil sketches.

While I tend to stick to digital drawing nowadays, I definitely feel you on the scan cleanliness issue; phone pictures and even proper printer scans tend to end up either kind of dirty or faded. The short answer is that I don't actually have an easy and effective solution, but there might be some things you can try depending on what you have available. I wouldn't be surprised if you've already explored more methods than I have, and there are definitely people with better ideas and more experience than me, but I'll share what I've tried.

Long(er)-winded rambling under the cut!

So, I currently have an unfinished piece sitting in my files that began as a traditional drawing, one that I want to keep all the pencil details for. Here's the sketchbook page, scanned using a household printer:

Not terrible, but it'd be nice to have clearer contrast between the lines and the background. In MediBang, I can adjust the contrast by going to Filter>Levels (or Ctrl+L), which gives me a little box that looks like this:

I don't technically know the nitty gritty of how it works, but by my understanding, the outer triangles for the input and output indicate the range boundaries. Adjusting the input--particularly the darker boundary--so that the output boundary exceeds it basically tells the program to make the darker parts even darker, resulting in this:

Better! As you can see, though, the darker parts of the background also show up a bit more. Rather than relying only on contrast adjustments, what I actually ended up doing was carefully erasing the background around the drawing after adding a plain white layer underneath, and also going over some of the lines digitally. I did this first in MediBang (the only art program I had when I started working on it), then transferred the file over to Rebelle.

MediBang (left) has the pure white background, while the Rebelle (right) canvas settings I chose are a little off-white and more textured, which I think blends a bit better with the texture and shading of the image. It's possible to add textures and the like in MediBang, too, but Rebelle has it built into its design, so it's a little easier to figure out there; I'll likely finish this piece in Rebelle (whenever I get back to doing so, haha), since the canvas and brush settings will be easier to match to the texture of everything that came directly from the drawing.

Most of this is much easier to do with a drawing tablet/pen, unless you're a wizard with a mouse. As for traditional means... the best suggestion I can come up with is to try inking sketches, or at least darkening them further with a pencil. The more contrast you can get between your lines and the background, the more easily you can digitally tease that contrast out even further. I think most photo editors have at least some contrast, color, and brightness adjusters, and probably more useful functions I don't even know about--it never hurts to mess around with any program's filters and settings to see what happens!

As a writer, I feel like Miraculous is the perfect case study for both generating worlds and characters people feel attached to, to the point where they generate theories and get invested in tiny developments, and also a case study for how a story should absolutely not be developed from that point on.

Every time I see something from the show, I’m reminded of the brilliance of its concepts and setups. You have superheroes tied to zodiac animals (plus others) which give different powers not tied to the animal form in ways people had seen before (seriously, props where props are due, there were some unique power/costume combos here). You have secret identities which hide both two kids who are in love with one another in different forms AND the fact that one kid is the SON OF THE VILLAIN (angst on angst for that finale and any reveals). You have cute little creatures of seemingly infinite cosmic energy who have been around since the dawn of time but also have banter of their own. You have cool jewelery designs (yes, this is vital to making people want to draw your world and make their own ocs, which is one of MY big writing motivators lol). You have a cool cast of background characters who, for the first two seasons, are each given an episode to have a breakdown and become villains. You have a bully who seems like childsplay in the face of an actual supervillain terrorizing Paris. You have a clear front runner for Villain #2 in a character who depends on deceit to rule the class. You have all the foundations for an epic tale of growth, love, betrayal, etc. etc.

And you squander it. You take the MC whose father is the villain out of the final fight to pad out the awaited reveal. You backslide any and all character development. You don’t let the romance go ANYWHERE for four seasons, then speed through the reversal of attraction people had been dying for. You send the most interesting characters out of the story (mainly Luka, but I’m also going to include Chloe here). You let all the background characters become heroes and forget that the main draw of the show is watching our two leads, or, sorry, ONE lead by the way things end (because forget about the fun of their dynamic no matter the masks which drew so many people to this show to begin with).

The worst part for me is that I can pin pretty much all its problems on one thing: the rule of cool. It would make thematic sense for Adrien to be in the final fight and face off his father, but it was COOL for Marinette to combine the miraculous and fight him solo. It was interesting to see a small band of heroes help our leads (their two best friends and Chloe, who was shaping up to be an interesting hero in her own way), but it would be COOL if all the kids had powers 24-7 now and no, most of the designs don’t look as good as those initial ones. It would be interesting to see Marinette and Adrien finally discuss their feelings to one another, and eventually have a reveal that leads to maybe betrayal and excitement all at once, but it would be COOL if they just started dating already so they date as civilians. It would be interesting to explore the world, the themes, and relationships we felt promised by those early episodes, but it would be COOL to just take the story wherever the wind blows and add in any cool fights or lines that prop up our now stand-alone MC, even at the expense of her literal partner or any of the other secondary characters we were given a focus on (because why prop up the characters everyone already loved when we can give Kim, a solid tertiary character, a backstory tied directly to Marinette’s worst trait in a COOL attempt at explaining it away because it WOULDNT BE COOL if she had flaws).

I’m not saying I hate everything from the newer seasons. However, it seems like the writers’ plan for the story didn’t include things they set up, and what they set up was infinitely more interesting than the things they planned to pay off. My takeaway advice for writers is this: put down the “Rule of Cool” for a moment and analyze what you think are the inherently INTERESTING parts of your story. Maybe you have a unique world, or your character ideas have merit, or you too have some contrive love square people can spend hours agonizing over. Then, don’t shove it to the side (or drag it out past the point of caring). Think through what you want to do with those concepts and the ways you want to explore them, and make a clear path. Don’t worry about what the public reception to those ideas will be (I know, seems counter-intuitive to the post, but stay with me) and instead dig into the themes you want to tell. Miraculous wanted to tell a cool story, and in the end they told a bland one. The best stories come from writers who put aside their goals of being cool and just write the worlds they personally find interesting.

Elliott art dump!

These pictures are quite mid so I decided to post a whole bunch of them at once. Back when I was starting Tumblr I really wanted as much likes as possible. Yeah. It’s cringe. But I’m a furry. I’m all cringe. It’s especially cringe because likes and followers don’t matter much on Tumblr. You’re never gonna make any money on here! Oh boy. Isn’t being disabled and incapable of work fun!

Well. Now I got some stability with responses. About four per non Squirrel and Hedgehog related stuff. In the past I would spit these three into separate posts. Thus gaining about 12 likes if I’m lucky all together. But now I will post them all together because I’m not such an attention whore anymore.

So now about these fellas. The first Elliott is actually the last one with the sea background. I wanted to impress with the best one so I put the latest one to show first. But this sea background one. He was an attempt at the jelly art style. I still have a long way to go, don’t I? He’s kind of cute. Though he could use more polish. They all could. He was supposed to be more realistic but after I finished the sketch I didn’t pay much attention to the reference photo. A lot of the time my painting don’t have the best of anatomy. That’s quite strange because anatomy in my sketches while not perfect is pretty good. My art teacher said that it’s because I get so engrossed in painting I forget to pay attention to it.

I did learn something on this piece though. Using the blend tool. I first block out under my sketch with a flat base paint. Then I add (lol I wrote ass by accident!) a clipping layer onto the flat base. There I do all the colours. Then I merge the base and the colours to blend it. Don’t forget to use alpha lock! Then merge that with the sketch layer on top. Blend away the lines. Switch off alpha lock and do the polishing.

Got all that? No? You didn’t understand a word what I just said? Ehm. Moving on.

The middle one. I quite like this one. Even though I didn’t do enough blending around the eyes so he got some sick eyeliner. By now you noticed that Elliott doesn’t look the most like his in game appearance. I really love the earlier designs. He’s just so dorky! I also base my head cannon version of him from the actor Haruma Muira. I’ve got a whole bunch written about my head cannon if you’re willing to scroll for two hours down my blog. There’s not much to say about this drawing. It’s sketchy. It works. I went lazy with the sweater. It turned out pretty good.

Now the top one. The eye catching furry version of Elliott. I drew him as antro lion before. But then I remembered that lions are supposed to have a collar like mane. Not just hair on top. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to make him a twink though!!! I did challenge @32girassoisdevangogh but it seems they chickened out! That or they have more important stuff to attend to…

@32girassoisdevangogh is not a chicken!!! They drew Elliott as both a lion and a Iriomote catand did and incredible job doing so! Really taught me not to do cheap jabs at people because they will make a big fool of you!!

INTERMISSION OVER!

So I changed the species to a Iriomote cat. Which works far more for the story I have for him. My head cannon is he’s a 2nd generation immigrant from the Gotoro Empire, which is like Stardew’s version of Japan in my head. Everyone thinks he’s white because though he has monolid eyes and bronzish skin (when he dares to go out his cabin) he still got ocean blue eyes and red hair. Iriomote cats do look like your usual street cat unless you look close. I won’t have him be a furry if I ever get around to writing the fanfic about him. I don’t want Zootopia 2 Bad Racism Allegory Boogaloo.

This picture looks… alright. I have a lot of learning to do when it comes to digital paintings. Do you have some suggestions for what I should work on? I draw in Procreate.

Nancy Drew the Secret of the Scarlet Hand #124

This review is for fan entertainment, I'm not being paid.

Now I will say this, this is the book review and not the game review (I really like the game too, very puzzle heavy and an interesting cast of characters), I will do my best to keep video game references to a minimum.

 I was excited when I was doing research on the games and found out some of the games were loosely based on the books and I went out of my way to find the books that inspire the games, and this one is based in a museum, yay!

Nancy, Bess, George, and Carson are all in Washington D.C., the girls are visiting Beech Hill since the director of the museum and their spouse and Carson are friends and Carson is busy with meetings.

We meet the Director of the museum, Susan Caldwell, and proceeds to give the girls a tour, we learn some background information on the actual building, it was a private resident before it was turned into the museum.

Then we meet our next character, Alejandro del Rio, and much like his video game counterpart, he is a nation representative, very vocal and passionate about the wrongdoing toward his country and its artifacts. Then we meet our main science man, Henrik Vander Hune. Nancy is also introduced to the art dealer, who manages to secure the Pacal carving, Taylor Sinclair. We even have John Riggs who is an archaeologist at the natural history museum.

The overall mystery that happens at Beech Hill is that the carving of King Pacal is stolen and it providence is brought into question, it may have been smuggled in the States.

The mystery has shown up, the carving that everyone is talking about is missing!!! (Dun dun dun!!!) We meet our lead detective (police detective our main detective is Nancy) who doubts Nancy abilities as a detective (I love tropes like this 😊)

The book kind of plays out like the game but only with more detail and more danger to Nancy and the crew, but it’s still an enjoyable read.

I do like this book. I thought how they use other people to throw suspicion on other characters was well played.

The only thing I have negative to say about this book (or any mystery/detective stories) is I hate when you have that one character that will go and tell people “Oh this Nancy, she a detective” element of surprise has been wasted. I know it adds a bit more drama to the mystery but sometimes it’s hard to overlook this.

Bess has a habit of doing this, I can understand that she is proud of Nancy and her accomplishments as a detective, however I wish the people who normally say this can pick up on the situation (read the room). I don’t necessarily hate it, but it does annoy me a bit when the character in question knows that main character is on a case and still does it. (Sorry for the tangent)

However, Bess is Nancy hype woman she knows what to say or how to get ideas flowing so Nancy can solve the case.

Anthropology 110 - Knowledge Sharing Assignment

Rationale

This project was fun to create. It was really nice to put my design practices to the test and ideate a poster about a tender subject like cultural competence. I did a lot of research and thought deeply about what kind of colours and visual aspects I wanted to include. I initially thought about doing skin tones paired with colours from the earth, but I wanted to challenge myself and go a bit more eccentric.

Here is a sketch I drew for the visual part of my poster. I've seen these kind of figures used in other media, so I drew this without trying to look at any references online to make it my own.

Now that I have my drawing, I uploaded it into illustrator and began rendering it. I wanted to be very careful with my colour choices since my poster is about educating on cultural competence. These were some variations I came up with.

I ended up picking this colour combination because I felt that they didn't resemble a specified culture or group of people and they work well together in the accessibility department.

Next, I had to figure out the layout. I tried it in a couple ways because I had a lot of text to work with (it can be a little hard when designing). The illustration works very well with the subject matter. It's not too over-powering but adds a nice pop of colour.

When i'm designing for some form of publication, I like to print it out and see what corrections I can make in analog form, sometimes it's hard to pick things out if its on a screen. Here you can see some of the fixes I wanted to make from my chosen design.

I fixed some spacing and accessibility issues, as well as adding a cream colour to the background. I'm very happy with how it turned out visually. The only thing I didn't include were the tips section because a lot of them were covered in the "do's and don't" section.

Here is my final poster, I am very happy with how it turned out and i'm grateful that you gave us the option to have a more visual project. My teachers in this program have told me I should experiment more with letters and typography, which is why I made the choice to have the title go diagonally down the middle. The colours look a little whacky here because tumblr can't process some of them, I will upload a final copy as well as give you a physical one as well!
