School’s In: Prologue

Career Day at Kilmer Elementary School was always a hectic time for the teachers. Many of the students always wanted to turn the day and activities into a competition of who had the coolest parent or relative.

Jade sat coloring the poster for her class. Across from her was Baylie, who was sharpening the coloring pencils and poking Javy with them.

“Baylie! Stop poking Jav! He’s a friend.”

“That’s why I’m poking him cuz he can’t tell me no.”

“Baylie! I haven’t been saying no,” Javy says chuckling.

“I can’t understand what language you’re speaking,” she teases, sticking out her tongue at him.

He shakes his head and brings more posters for them to color.

“Jade… Who are you bringing to career day?”

Jade carefully put her markers to the side. “My dad. His name is William. He works in a restaurant and bar.”

“That’s more fun than a boring attorney,” Baylie says. “My mom goes to her office and only looks at boring things on her computer,” she adds with a dramatic sigh.

Jade gasps. “Being an attorney sounds fun! You can go to court and tell the judge all the bad things the person did!”

“I guess,” Baylie shrugs.

The next day the classes end early to allow the parents time to set up. Baylie is dragging Delilah to the table she helped prepare. “Ma this is your table! You’re gonna be with my friend’s Navy dad and my other friend’s drinking buddy.”

The moment Lilah and William meet they knew they’d be together, making their girls sisters. The girls continued to make friends and grow. And soon they were in high school.

Soon it wasn’t just Baylie and Jade. It became Baylie, Jade, Rachael, Lara, Grace, Amanda, Milla, Hailie, Robyn, Raven, and Alana. They each had their own likes and dislikes and interests but still were the best of friends all through the years.

It’s My Best Friends

The youngest of the Wayne kids. Rainn is always a pleasure to hang around with. They’re always willing to learn new things. Whenever Bruce brings Rainn to the office, they always sit with me and help me answer the phone.

Baylie one day brings to the office a shy blonde kid. Baylie stormed into Mr. Wayne’s office and left Rainn sitting at my desk.

“Hi. I’m Lilian… And you are?”

The poor kid’s cheeks turn red.

“Want to help me set up folders in the conference room? Are you Rainn?” They nod shyly.

“I’m Mr. Wayne’s assistant so anytime you need to contact him let me know. Here… What color do we make the folders?”

As I get Rainn to open up slowly, I know we’re going to have so much fun.

Robyn. Robyn. Robyn. My best friend since childhood. She stayed in Central City for a few months but then came to Gotham and roomed with me.

We have spent countless nights staying up late giggling and plotting to take over the world. Well, the world of writing. We were once working together on writing a book, but we never finished it. We had too many ideas and then reality called. We needed to focus on our jobs.

But we’re still up for being a chaotic duo in writing!

The moment I heard her speak I knew we were going to be best friends. Alice’s British accent was and still is one of my favorite things about her. The other is how smart and witty she is. Did I mention she’s just a bit shorter than me but gives the best hugs??

I love stepping away from my desk to go down to where Alice is so we can have our own office gossip sessions. I also like seeing the robots or robotics she and Jervis Tetch spend time making. They will one day be useful for everyone.

Young Miss Wayne. Oh she’s a little troublemaker but she’s the cutest and most fun of the Wayne bunch.

The day I met her was my second day at work. I had just set down my belongings on my desk and was sitting down when I felt something grab my legs. Not only that, there was growling coming from under my desk. At my yelping and jumping back, the sounds of laughter drowned out beating heart.

A hand waves out under my desk. “Hi! I’m Baylie Wayne! It was funny to scare you!”

I just chuckled. “I should have known you’d be trouble. Your father told me he was having you come in today.”

Freshman year for the Chaos Squad and soon it was summer again. A cruel summer according to Amanda and Baylie. While the squad was excited to spend their summer nights hanging out, the days would be spent working.

School’s In: Fearless

Lara. His scarlet beauty. The moment Nick saw Lara in his art class he knew he would marry her one day. The way she would get lost in her own mind and art were what made her very beautiful. That along with her shiny and wavy red hair and lovely smile. Before he made his move, he would observe her and wanted to get to know her likes and dislikes. He was a goner the moment he saw her reading the Batman comics during lunch one day. They next day he came to school with a ton of his copies to start a conversation with her. Soon, they’re the cutest freshmen couple in the school. Just before their first kiss, Lara is shyly looking up at Nick and says “I don't know why but with you I'd dance in a storm in my best dress, fearless.” Just as she finishes, the clouds obey and it starts raining over them. The two laugh and share a tender kiss before Nick pulls Lara out of the car to dance in the rain.

Baylie Anne Steele. She always was someone who marched to the best of her own drum. And that was something her family and friend ls loved about her. She also loved telling stories. Being the only freshman girl in her film production class, Baylie felt like she had to compete with the guys. One day she was mumbling to herself “I'm so sick of running as fast as I can. Wondering if I'd get there quicker if I was a man…” Mickey heard her and he chuckled. “Hi. I’m Mickey. I think we’ll have so much fun being project partners this year.” Baylie didn’t trust him at first, but as the weeks passed be and he showed he liked her ideas and really included her input into the projects, she found herself liking spending time with Mickey.

About Me: Hi. It’s me again. So, I’m writing this on my lunch break. I just wanted to introduce myself a bit more. Last time I didn’t properly introduce myself.

As you know, I’m Lilian but I go by Lily. I was born and raised in Central City. I always had an interest in business and technology. It helped that my dad would take me to work with him at times, where I learned the basics of computer sciences.

Studying and doing homework were never my favorite things to do. At times, I wanted to give up, but I didn’t. I told myself that I would study hard to make myself and my parents proud. And I did! I graduated in the top 5% of my high school class.

After graduating, I moved to Gotham to attend Gotham University. There I studied Business Administration and got my Masters’. During that time, I started working for Wayne Enterprises as an Intern. Eventually, upon my university graduation, I was hired as Mr. Wayne’s assistant.

Many people believed that I would let the money influence me and that I’d only date him for his money. What people didn’t know is that his money didn’t impress me. Being honest, my family and I are just as rich as my boss.

While my family comes from old money, I actually enjoy working for a living. It’s why I went to school for. But aside from working, I’ve grown fond of volunteering.

People have called me crazy, but I enjoy volunteering at Arkham Asylum. I even went back to school to get my psychology degree. I spend time with the patients teaching them art and how to express themselves through colors and not just violence or crime.

Anyways, I have to let you go. My lunch break just ended and I see my boss is coming mad from his own lunch meeting.

PS: No I haven’t encountered the Batman yet. I hope I never do.

Bossman Bruce Wayne

So yes my boss is the famous and handsome Bruce Wayne… Like have you seen him?! Anyways, let me tell you of the time I almost pepper sprayed him!

Look! I’ll admit I’m not always fully paying attention to my surroundings. Can you blame a girl for getting so focused into what she’s doing? Anyways, this one time I was walking home from my job at Wayne Enterprises. I had my headphones on and listening to a book on tape. I’m walking down the street so absorbed into my book when suddenly a hand touches my shoulder.

I yell at the top of my lungs and swing my purse at my assailant and I’m about to use my pepper spray when I recognize that it’s my boss Mr. Wayne who was trying to get my attention. Boy am I glad I didn’t spray him. He only wanted to offer me a ride home so I wouldn’t walk alone in the dark.

“Miss Lockhart. We meant no harm,” a soothing British voice comes from behind me. “I know… I was just so I to my book that I got distracted.”

I turn and see that Bruce is rubbing his face in the spot I hit him with my purse. “I’m so sorry Mr. Wayne…”

“Lily… you know you can call me Bruce.”

“Yes sir… Bruce… I’m sorry. But I’m not sorry I almost pepper sprayed you.”

Bruce chuckles. “If you want, I can teach you some self-defense moves.”

“I’ll think about that,” I tell him.

School’s In: Enchanted

Summer concerts and talent shows were never Jade’s favorite. Sure she loved the music and being with her friends. But there were times that being around so many people was too much for her. This time she found herself alone at the concert, as most of the girls were either helping backstage or running late. A tall, handsome guy sat next to her on the ground and started chatting with her. The hours passed by and their conversation didn’t stop or become awkward. He accompanies Jade to the train to make sure she gets home safe, but she ends up falling asleep against him.

After he gently woke her up and officially introduced himself as Ron Kerner, Jade walked home the rest of the way. Jade could feel herself blushing all the way home. Even Baylie teased her about it, like a true sister would.

The months passed and Jade kept replaying the memory of sitting and talking with Ron and how easy it was for them to just talk about everything that one night. It all stopped being a memory after Ron entered her aviation mechanics class after transferring to her school in the fall. Jade was an excited ball of energy and she couldn't wait until class ended to approach him.

"Ron! I'm so happy you're here!"

His response was to pick her up in a hug and spins her around. "Jade... I haven't stopped thinking of you since that night. These are the words I held back, as I was leaving too soon: I was enchanted to meet you."

Jade smiles at him and her future starts all over again.
