“I think that you’re special.”
He smiled, hands wrapped around the dead lumber he sharpened with his pocket knife, the scraping sound was unavoidably heard swirling around the July fog. The rope creaked each time the wind blew us into a soft sway, and the grass beneath us tickled our bottoms as we hung dangerously close to the soil and it’s roots.
“You think?” He laughed through his teeth, scoffing softly, the breath between his sighs confirming he didn’t really care about my choice of words.
“I know.” I promised him, looking at the way the moon highlighted his waves and the stars casted a glow over his cheeks.
He was focused on his makeshift spear still, carving away like his life depended on it, like it meant something to him.
The rope threatened to snap when I crawled over to him. I didn’t even have the heart to pull his knives and his weapons from his palms, I simply settled between the bends of his arms and laid contently on his chest. I felt the flakes of oak falling on my back, and his arms squeezed me a little tighter as he worked.
“So needy.” He laughed, because he knew it was true. I would lay between him and a flame to feel the comfort of his touch.
I loved him irrevocably, naively, delicately. My whole self was poured into the glass that was him. Yet, he hadn’t been able to fall in love with my overflow. Maybe I didn’t under it yet then, but soon I would.
“I just want you all to myself.” I breathed against his chest, my fingers fiddling with the loose threads on his shirt, one I was already planning on fixing for him. Little acts of service, touch, kindness, and pure love. All languages I spoke only for him.
“You’re so selfish.” He joked.
“Shut up, you dork.” I love you.
“Oh, so now I’m a dork?” I love you.
I nodded my head, smiling and pressing my forearms against his broad chest. I felt his knife settle against the back, closed and not wielding any threats. JJ would never hurt me, not yet, anyway.
I love you.
“Maybe I should just find someone who appreciates me.” He teased. Did he know how hard I loved him?
“Shut up, Maybank!” I laughed into his shoulder. I love you.
“Make me.” He retorted.
So, I shut him up, and I kissed him hard, in the dark, in the hammock.
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
I loved you.
“How many more times do I have to promise you I don’t want her!” JJ shouted. It seemed like that’s all we ever did anymore. Fought, cried, hugged, and disappeared from each other’s lives.
“You don’t get it.”
“No, I don’t, please, enlighten me, Y/n. Because I’m fucking confused and nobody’s telling me shit!” He pulled at the roots of his hair, dirt kicking up behind him. We walked along a windy road, the one that branched off from the Chateau. I had simply left the last things of his I had left to remind me of what I lost in a box on the porch. But he’s a leech, and he had to have known I would give him back his clothing, because even as selfish as I was with him, it wasn’t mine to keep to myself anymore.
“You think you’re a good person, just because you won’t punch me in the stomach.”
Silence fell over us, my eyes looking up into his, and his mouth hung open like a fish out of water, an idiot trying to make himself sound like a poet. But he never had a way with his words, that was always my dealing of cards.
“And still, I loved you. I don’t know why, I just do.” I spoke softly, sniffling as I used all of my willpower to not cry in front of the man I swore would never see me weak again. Not after he made a fool of me in front of everyone I cared about. The same people I would never get the privilege of meeting again, because our friends were just his at the end of the day.
“Good, then love me. Let yourself love me, because I love you. I love you more than anything else and I can’t…I can’t lose that!” He pleaded, grasping at my limbs like threads that clung to the sleeves of his shirts.
“No, no. JJ, I can’t. You’re not someone who gets to be special in my life anymore. Not then, and not now. Maybe I believed you deserved it then, maybe I believed it when I watched you kissing her, and maybe I believed it when you promised me she meant nothing, but I can’t believe it now.”
“Why not!” He begged for an answer.
“Because you’re not special, you’re evil.” I spoke softly. “You don’t have to hit a girl to hurt her. And you’ve hurt me more than you could ever have known.”
He could have watched me fall down the stairs, and he wouldn’t have shown remorse, so I wasn’t shocked at the stone faced boy that stood in front of me, confused, conflicted, maybe.
“I still think you’re special. No, I know you are.”
I nodded as he spoke. I wasn’t sure what he wanted me to say. The girl he loved would have laid on a wire for him, but the woman I was now would tell him to find another way. She wouldn’t sacrifice herself for a boy who couldn’t love her the way she deserved, and she was coming to terms with understanding that, that was okay. Because the truth was, he had treated me like his equal, and so I became that, but I’m better than him, and he should know that by now.
“You don’t even know me.” I cried, pulling myself together as soon as I broke. I sucked up my tears in a wet mess, my knuckles shaking, dripping with the tears they tried to stop.
“Of course I do, I know you. I love you.”
I shook my head, backing away, even as he followed in my footsteps.
“You hesitated, JJ. You hesitated when I asked if you loved her. When you love someone, you don’t even have to think about saying no to a question like that. If you knew me, if you knew what I would have done for you, for us, you would have known I would have never done that to you.” I spoke bitterly, closing my eyes to stop the tears, I hiccuped between breaths.
“She’s my best friend.” JJ spoke like his reason was obvious.
“And you were mine.”
Silence. Cold, hard, silence. It’s what hits when both people realize they’ve come to a silent ending in their conversation. We didn’t have to keep arguing for us, because there was no more us, and the silence was just the fact of that settling in.
I’m ready to finally walk into a room without looking for JJ. My eyes wander over every corner looking for the boy whose arm I hung off of for so many years. The boy who ripped my youth from me, and the boy I will always be thankful for because now I know that only dogs appreciate the gifts I brought for him.
I want to be happy, with or without him. And soon, I know it will happen for me. I am too good to waste my energy on someone who couldn’t love half as hard as I did.
Maybe he couldn’t have. But maybe he just realized it too late for us.
But I’m ready to love without him, and I’m ready to be happy.
I can’t feel it yet, but I am waiting.

So, full transparency, that wasn’t actually the book she was reading at the moment, and why she’d chosen that one to discuss in her current situation, she didn’t know. (And actually, side note: the book in question was the only good one out of the series and the others were absolute garbage, but that was neither here nor there). 
Nate entered her space, his hand pressing against the wall over her head and she swallowed thickly. God, why did he have this kind of power over her? Why couldn’t she tell her traitorous heart— and doubly traitorous libido— that they were not doing this anymore? She tried to steel herself, eyes firmly on her phone despite the fact that she was not absorbing a single word she was reading. His scent enveloped her and she blinked up at him despite the way her brain was screaming at her to not do exactly that. 
Her gaze fell to the barely-there curve of his lips and her tongue wetted her own in response. She missed this, missed having someone to play with, missed feeling desired even if it was for just a moment in a closet. 
No, stop it. Bad Natalia! He should be begging on his knees!!! 
She shifted, subtly pressing her thighs together as she tried to lean away from him. But it was a small closet and he was right there, so it didn’t serve much of a purpose at all. That was fine, though. She could offer him some snark and he’d get bored of this game and move on. So, she opened her mouth to shut him down. Except, when she opened her mouth, she heard herself saying, “I’ve read you enough of these by now that you should really be able to come up with something on your own.” A dare danced in her tone as she dismissed him with a tsk and a look back down at her book. “A lack of imagination is a terrible thing.”

Nate continued leaning over Nat, eyes tracing over her face as her eyes sweep over the words of the book, until she finally blinked up to meet his eyes. Only for a second - Nate not missing the infinitesimal shift as she looked down towards his lips, his lips spreading into a self-satisfied smile as she did. Maybe it was wrong of him, to coax this out of her, to find a way back towards what they used to be. But Nate wanted to feel like someone - anyone - wanted him. And Nat telling him they were done (they had been done for a year, realistically, but now it was her saying he couldn't see her tits again) was something that was constantly dragging him down. They couldn't be together. And he knew that Nat would eventually realize that, moving on.
But that didn't mean he wanted her to.

He pretty much counted down the days until the people he had stupidly let himself care about would replace him. It always happened. And with Nat, he knew it was coming. But right now...he knew he could tug her back in, knew that she hadn't quite managed to shake him off yet. Which was why Nate leaned in a bit more, having to bend down as he nuzzled into her neck, a kiss lightly pressed there. "But it's always so much fun when you tell me what to do," he murmured into the skin of her neck before pulling back, his hand tipping her chin up so her eyes looked away from her book, a moment of silence lapsing as his eyes focused on hers, shifting back and forth between them, considering for a few beats. It had always been easier for Nate to do something like this, rather than actually attempt to talk anything out. And if it's not broke, why fix it? "Though I imagine it would've started somewhere around here," Nate said after a long pause, lowering himself to his knees in front of her, eyes still on Nat's face as his hands slid down her body till he got to the hem of her skirt.

December
December 16th
“This is past the point of ridiculous,” Paul says as I drift off on his shoulder for the second time. We are sitting in the living room of his house, a movie playing lightly in the background, one that I am struggling to pay attention to as I am snuggled into him. It’s a comfort so natural I don’t even realize I am falling asleep until I am awakened by Paul.
“The nightmares were bad last night,” I say groggily. Paul’s face is hard, and I already know what’s coming before he says it.
“They aren’t YOUR nightmares, Anna,” he tenses, voice harsh.  
“They feel like it sometimes,” I admit.
I can’t pinpoint what was the straw that broke the camel’s back, but Paul is over Bella’s mood. Maybe it was when I was so sleep-deprived, that I sobbed into his shoulder after school, unable to focus on anything as exhaustion took over my body. Maybe it was when I fell into such a deep sleep, he couldn’t wake me up, which terrified him. Whatever it was, he wanted it to end.
“She’s being selfish,” he hisses.
“Don’t say that.”
“She’s been ignoring everyone for months, and you are bending over backward to make sure nothing happens to her.”
I still hadn’t told him about the Volturi, that it wasn’t just about protecting Bella and Charlie anymore. It was about avoiding being hunted down. I knew it would just add fuel to the fire. The boys were already working themselves to the bone, just the three of them.
I also hadn’t told him about everything my parents left me in their will. It was still overwhelming, and Charlie and I had yet to go through all of the paperwork, but the assets and money alone were insane to think about. I never really thought about how old my mother was, not after she started aging normally with my dad, but it was old enough to have a great amount of wealth apparently.
“I think Charlie sees how bad she’s getting,” I provide, hoping that will quell his anger.
“It’s been bad, Charlie has been suffering too.”
“I’ll talk to him, okay? Get her help,” I say, hoping to move on.
“Or a psychiatric hospital.”
I flick his arm, “Seriously Paul, don’t say that about her. She’s family.”
He tsks and leans back on the couch, this time staying silent as I drift off. Before I am lulled off completely, I feel Paul kiss my temple tenderly.
I smile softly, he can never keep up the asshole schtick for long.

December 21st
After months of practice, my magic felt easier now, more natural. I had pretty good control of it, even fire was less terrifying than before. I got to use my abilities around the pack and Elders more as I trusted more people to know. If they could keep the boy’s secret, I knew they could keep mine. Slowly, I started speaking to individuals about it, and most reacted with a simple nod and a smile. Harry jokingly named me the official fire starter for the meetings.
Kim had been the first one we clued into my abilities. The girl had fallen into our routine well. It was often that Emily, Kim, and I found ourselves together as our respective partners roamed the woods. Another hiker had gone missing, and we had a sinking feeling they wouldn’t be able to find them alive.
She handled it in stride, just like she had Jared’s shifting. She didn’t ask too many questions, which was a relief. Most of the tribe had the notion of “less is more,” when it came to me and my nature.
All except for Billy Black. He asked more questions than even Sam did in the beginning. Knowing my father and mother personally, he drilled into me one council meeting. It took a promise to come over to his house the next day to quell his curiosity for the time being.
That’s where I found myself now, staring at the front door of the Black house, hesitant to knock in case Jacob would be the one to answer it. Our friendship was tentative still.
Taking a deep breath, I knock. To my relief, Billy answers.
With a smile, I greet him, “Hey Billy.”
“Anna, come on in. I made coffee.”
“You know the way to my heart,” I joke, following him to the dining room table. Two cups already sat in the middle. I sit down, holding the mug for warmth.
“Is Jake…”
“Out with friends,” he says, and I nod. There’s a beat of awkward silence before he begins to speak again.
“So, Will and Aurelia… they left Forks for a reason?”
“I can only assume so, they didn’t really talk much about it in detail, at least not to me.”
“What was she?”
I flinch, “Faerie.” I say simply. Billy just nods.
“I guess that makes sense, there was always a feeling around her, something not quite human, at least in the beginning. I thought I was just paranoid, especially when I stopped feeling that sense so strongly.”
“She gave it up to be with him,” I say, “When she got pregnant, they told me they were worried about vampires, she might not register as a Fae creature as strongly, but I would. That’s why they moved.”
“Anna, I hate to ask this but, do you know how they died?”
“The official report is a break-in gone wrong. But… I was the one who found them,” I choke, tears welling in my eyes, this was a detail I don’t talk about, with anyone really, “It looked like a massacre. I don’t think whoever was responsible was human.”
Billy grasps my hand on the table for support as a stray tear falls down my face.
“My mom thought it would be safe here, I don’t think she knew about the Cullen’s”
“She didn’t, they only moved back a few years ago. Until Sam shifted, we weren’t entirely sure that the stories were just that, stories,” he solemnly says, “I wish I had known, to warn them.”
Something in me breaks as the weight of the situation falls onto my shoulders.
“There’s something else, about their murders, but you can’t tell anyone yet, not even Paul.”
Billy gives me a skeptical glance but nods.
“I think the people that killed them, the vampires, were a group called the Volturi. They are some weird leaders in their world, who are old enough to remember the Fae. My mom was trying to through them off our scent, but I think they caught her up to her. I’m worried they will eventually catch up to me. I wasn’t home that night, but unless they didn’t go through the house, they know another person lived there.”
“You know we won’t let anything happen to you.”
“That’s the thing, Billy… if it comes downs to them tracking me here. I don’t think you or anyone else should try to protect me. It’s not worth losing the lives of many just for mine. Especially the boys, I don’t think it’s fair of me to ask that.”
“Anna, you are a part of us now.”
“I know you all have welcomed me with open arms, but I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if anyone died for me. I can’t. It’s not my right to expect that of you all.”
Billy’s lips are pressed in a tight line, and I can see he is struggling not to argue. In the end, he gives a curt nod.
“This seems like a conversation we should all be a part of, and we will have. But for now, we can table it. I would still like to talk about Will and Aurelia a bit, I have plenty of embarrassing stories about your father for you if you like to hear them.”
I wipe the tears away from my cheeks, happy for the break, “I would love that.”

December 28th
I walk into the house after spending the day with Angela and Jessica. Over Christmas, they had gotten some money and gift cards and wanted to go shopping in Port Angeles before school started up again. Charlie’s car is gone, so I knew it was going to a “fend for yourself” night. Paul was with Sam and Jared, so I was alone for the first time in a few weeks. Throwing my keys onto the entryway table, I turn and jump to see Bella sitting on the couch.
She’s wrapped in a blanket, with deep bags under her eyes and sullen cheeks. She seems dim. The life and color sucked out of her. The tv is off, there’s no book in her hand, and she is just staring, eyes glazed over.
I take a breath to prepare myself and step into the living room, she doesn’t even look at me.
“Mind if I sit?”
She doesn’t answer. She doesn’t even acknowledge me. I sit next to her, and she does something that surprises me. She moves the blanket to cover me as well.
Tentatively, I wrap my arms around her in a hug, instead of pulling away, she leans into me, her head on my shoulder.
I rub circles on her back and brush her hair back. It’s not until I feel wetness on my shirt that I realize silent tears are falling from her eyes. A deep sigh releases from me, but I don’t say anything.
We stay like that for a while, Bella is desperate for connection, and I’m desperate to have her back. Exhaustion takes over her, and I gently move her, so her head is laying on my lap before I fall asleep too.
Bella does not wake up that night.

December 31st
“Have I ever told you that I hate the cold,” I say wrapping a blanket closer around me as I sit on the edge of Sam’s truck bed. The beach is frigid, especially at night, and would normally be empty, but everyone is out preparing for New Year’s fireworks. We all brought pillows and blankets and chairs to watch them all together, turning the bed of a truck into somewhat of a pillow fort.
“Yes, my love, you’ve told me every day since the snow started to stick,” Paul says adjusting the beanie on my head, so it covers my ears. I press my cheek into his warm hand. He smiles at me, laughing at the number of layers I have on.
“There’s too much snow,” I mutter.
“It’s normal for this time of year.”
I roll my eyes, “I’m not doing any more outdoor activities until it’s at least 70 degrees. You can tell Emily.”
“So, I guess we will see you in May?” He lightly taps my nose and I pretend to try and bite him.
“May! Jesus, I miss when my winter was a cool 50 degrees,” I groan.
“You know there’s a simple solution here,” Paul smirks.
“Don’t say it.” I point a gloved finger at him. He throws his hands up like he’s innocent. I had convinced him to at least try and blend in, with a hoodie and jeans on instead of his usual cut-offs. I would be stealing the hoodie later tonight. The one I was wearing now was already too cold.
“What’s the point of having a supernaturally warm boyfriend if you don’t take advantage of it.” He jumps onto the bed of the truck and slips behind me. He removes the blanket around me, ignoring my cry. He put it around him to get closer to me, wrapping my back up, this time in his arms. I lean into him as he peppers kisses on the side of my face, arms squeezing me close.
“Because you get handsy,” I point out as fingertips lightly lift my hoodie and graze over my skin, leaving goosebumps.
“I do not.”
I give him a look.
“Okay maybe a little,” he gives, “I can’t help it, I feel like I’ve barely seen you lately. I’ll be happy when we catch the leech killing all of the hikers.”
“I will too, I miss you,” I say kissing the back of his hand.
“I miss you too.”
The moment is interrupted by Jared jumping over the side of the truck with a bang, followed by him is Kim, who he lifts up easily.  
“Okay love birds, break it up,” he says, and I roll my eyes.
“Big talk from the biggest sap here,” I joke.
“No, that title still goes to Paul, you should hear him, all night it’s “I miss Anna, I hope Anna is okay, Oh, I wonder what Anna is doing right now.” It’s incessant-“
Paul throws a pillow at him to shut him up, but I’m already laughing.
“Cute,” I whisper to him, and a blush creeps up onto his face.
“Ready for fireworks?” Sam says, walking up to the truck hand in hand with Emily.
“I’m ready for a space heater,” I groan. Emily laughs at me.
“My poor girl, you’ll acclimate eventually," she says tenderly.
“Honestly, I don’t want to, out of spite really. It is a crime for this to be normal weather. One day I’ll take you all to one of the places I grew up, you’ll see then.”
“Looking forward to it,” Paul says into my ear, his head leaning on my shoulder. Even through about four layers of clothing, he really is helping with the cold. His arms are still around my waist, hands resting on my hips.
We all settle into comfortable positions, Paul and I move so he is leaning against the back wall, with me still in between his legs. Jared and Kim have taken our place on the edge, sitting side by side. Emily and Sam sit in the chairs they brought, Sam playing with the ring on Emily’s left hand.
“Any New Year Resolutions?” I ask Paul, who thinks for a moment very seriously.
“Keep you safe, spend more time with you, figure out if there’s ever an end to all this,” he shrugs.
The confession weighs more than he lets on, you can feel longing from him. Tuning in a little more to the connection, you feel a bit of fear and a lot of weariness.
I turn to face him and place a hand on his face, “I’m sure there is an end. You deserve an end. To do whatever you want.”
“We don’t all get what we want though do we?”
I sigh, “Maybe not, but we can figure out what we want together. Maybe it’ll be easier that way.”
“Everything is easier with you.” He meets my gaze earnestly. I smile softly. It pulls on my heartstrings when he is so sincere like this.
“Well, there you go.”
“What about you?” He asks, and it takes me a moment to think.
“I hadn’t really thought too hard about it, but they are probably the same as yours.”
I don’t know how well he believes me, but before he can say anything, murmurs of the countdown to midnight begin, and his attention is pulled away from me.
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!
As the fireworks begin, I pull Paul into a kiss, it’s a little desperate. I kiss him like it might be the last time, even though I know it won’t be. He matches my intensity as his hand holds the nape of my neck, the other wrapping around my waist to pull me onto his lap. My hands travel up to his neck and face, and I try my hardest to enjoy this feeling, committing it to memory.
The one true thought I have about the next year screaming in my head.
Stay alive.

convenience store stranger | suna rintarou
pairing: suna x f!reader  word count, genre: 2.1k words, college au. fluff. another meet cute story lol.  warning: none  summary: in which your late shifts become less boring and more interesting when a cute stranger stumbles in at 2 AM.  a/n: my first time writing for suna god im scared but i really liked how this turned out!!

The first time he meets you happens on one of his late night convenience store runs. It was exams season and Suna’s been pulling all-nighter after all-nighter. To say he was exhausted would’ve been an understatement. 
He’s barely making it through on the third night and if he didn’t take a break soon, he was sure he’d have passed out on his desk. With his mind hazy from reading too many words and trying to understand a semester’s worth of lessons in one night, he decides to stand up and get some fresh air. 
Which is how he found himself currently standing at aisle four of the only convenience store that was still open near his apartment. He scans the rack for something that can wake him and his brain up. He doesn’t know how long he’s been standing but he could definitely feel eyes burning holes in the back of his head. 
He settles on a pack of jelly sticks and a cup of spicy instant noodles and heads towards the counter. You mutter a greeting when he reaches the cashier and begin scanning his items. 
When he hands over the cash for payment, your fingers brush with his cold ones, making you recoil harshly as if he was repulsing.
“Something wrong?” He laughs when he sees your reaction. “I know I look like a mess now but I won’t bite you.” He bends his knees slightly, tilting his head to get a look at your embarrassed face.
“No, I’m sorry.” You avoid his intense gaze, continuing to pack his purchase. When you look at him, he’s still staring with his piercing eyes that it almost takes your breath away. 
Shaking your head to bring yourself to reality, you give him his items. “Your hands felt cold and I was just shocked.” You feel that same electricity sparking between you again when he takes the bag from you. “I.. well.. thank you. Have a great evening.”
“It’s 2 AM,” Suna chuckles and you sigh before correcting yourself and bowing to him in goodbye. “See you around,” he shouts over his back as he walks out the door. It was the first time he saw you in that store and he was sure it wasn’t going to be the last. 
The second time he’d actually planned it according to your shift. If his past trips to the store were anything to go by, he’d learned that you always took the evening shift. It was something he discovered after being called out by your co-worker on the third time that he restlessly looked around the store during a visit. 
He should be on his bed, phone in his hand as he mindlessly scrolled until he fell asleep. But with the memory of his interaction with you lingering on his mind, he wanted to see you.
“Hey, got time for a customer?” He greets the moment he steps inside the empty convenience store. You look up from the book that you were reading and quickly stand to welcome him. “What are you reading?” 
Hiding the book from his view, you retort, “Aren’t you going to buy something?” 
He grins, taking in your tired disposition and the bags that had formed under your eyes before retreating to the shelves. When he returns, he slides over a can of energy drink, iced coffee, and a large bag of chips. 
You assume he’d leave immediately once he’s paid for everything. You certainly didn’t expect him to take out the coffee and give it to you. 
“This is for you.” He opens his own drink and leans by the counter. “Doesn’t it ever get boring here? I mean it’s midnight and you’re alone. I’m betting not many people even drop by at this time.” He faces the door, crossing his arms around his chest and staring at both of your reflections at the glass. 
Worn out from your classes in the day, you take his coffee offering, instantly feeling the rush of caffeine flow through your veins and waking you up. “The job pays relatively well. Besides I can’t really work in the mornings, I have uni.”
“So you’re a college student too.” He turns around and extends a hand out to you. “I’m Suna Rintarou.”
You introduce yourself as you shake hands with him. And as soon as pleasantries were exchanged, he immediately launched into a story about how his earlier day went. He was a natural conversationalist and despite this being your first time talking with him, you didn’t feel an ounce of awkwardness. You didn’t know what it was about him but his presence made you feel comfortable. 
You learned about what he was studying (to your surprise, Psychology), how he spends his weekends playing volleyball (he was a middle blocker and an excellent one at that, he boasted), and how he ended up here during the night he first saw you (the all-nighter went well and he passed all his exams). 
He rips open the chips he bought and offers you some as you lay your story before him. He munches as he listened to you rant about how you loathed your course (Business Management) and the many case studies and papers you had to do each day. He nods his head in understanding as you explain why you needed this part-time job (to pay for apartment fees). 
You were having so much fun in his company that you didn’t notice the time pass by. (He arrived to the store at 12:32 AM. The clock on the wall now reads 2:32 AM). And for the duration of his stay, you were surprised that no one ever came by. He only ever left your side when a taxi driver walked in. 
Suna steered clear from the counter and kept his distance as you did your job. From your peripheral, you could see that he watched you like a hawk from the side and it made you somehow conscious. When the customer exited, you playfully threw a tissue at him, 
“I couldn’t concentrate when you were standing there and looking at me like that!” 
He went back to his position but this time, he leaned close with his hands on the counter. “Like what?"  
Well how could you say to him that you thought he looked effortlessly hot in his sweatshirt and track pants? And was that an adorably messy bedhead? How could you say that you liked the teasing smile that he’d been giving you throughout the night?  
You chuckle and shake your head, “Nothing.” You reach for the book you were reading prior his arrival and took your seat. “Don’t you have classes tomorrow? You should go back.”
“Do you not want me around anymore?” 
“It’s not that, I…”
He cuts you off, “Good, then it’s settled. I’m not going anywhere. I like talking with you too much to go back home. Let me entertain you some more.” He sits down at the chair on one of the tables near the counter and then goes back to chatting with you. 
Since that night, Suna had been scheduling more trips to the convenience store. Sometimes, he’d really only visit to bother you. At times, he’d bring his books and laptop with him so he could work on a paper while you restocked the shelves and cleaned around. On rare occasions, he’d help you out on a business plan and the customers who’d enter the store would be amused at the sight of you and him huddled behind the counter with your serious thinking faces on. 
He’d become a part of your life that it felt unnerving not to have him around on your shifts. And it certainly showed on your face how disappointed and heartbroken you were when consecutive nights passed without his visits. Your co-worker even called you out on it. 
“So where’s the cutie been?” She asked one time when the two of you were at the back lounge while you logged in for your shift. You groan at the nickname she gave him and she laughs at you.
“How would I know?” 
“Don’t you guys talk almost every day and night?”
“Only on nights that he visits me.” You pause, thinking about the possibilities why he could’ve stopped coming. And before you knew it, you were ranting. “God, are we even friends? I don’t know his number. Did he ghost me? Is this considered ghosting? It’s been a week. I’m scared I did or said something.” 
She’s watching you pace around the room. “Maybe he got bored of me. Or maybe he realized I’m not really worth his time and dipped. Sleeping is much better than hanging out with me at 1 AM anyway.”
You’re stopped in your tracks when she suddenly grabs your shoulders. “Overthinking is not a good look on you.” She makes you take deep breaths to calm down. “I’m sure he’s just busy right now. He’ll visit again soon.” 
“I don’t know why I’m being like this.” 
The look she gives you is incredulous, her mouth gaping wide at your statement. “Are you serious?” 
“What?” You ask, not anticipating the next words that would come from her. 
“It’s obvious that you like him.” 
The next time you see him was on campus. You don’t know how long it’s been since he last spent time with you on your shift. (Though if you were counting, you were definitely sure that it’s been two weeks and three days since then.) 
You tried not to think too much about what his absence could mean but the pang in your heart never left. Those two weeks that he didn’t show up allowed you some time to think about your conversation with your friend. You like him. 
Back then, you were too quick to shut down the idea. Denying any ounce of feeling for the boy as you saw him as no more than someone who had too much time on his hands to bother you on your shifts. A good friend is what you specifically used to defend your relationship with him. 
So then why was it that your heart was beating so rapidly as Suna waved at you from across the cafeteria? Why couldn’t you stop smiling as you watched him make his way to your table and sit down beside you?
“Hey there.” He slings his arms around and pulls you for a side hug. “Long time no see.” 
You almost couldn’t hear him over the loud thumping of your heart in your ears. He’s still smiling and waiting for you to reply. “Yeah, been a while. I’ve gotten the peace and quiet back in my shifts.” 
He breaks out in laughter while opening a snack bar. “I’m sorry I haven’t been able to stop by. I just came out from a major presentation that I’ve been preparing for during the past weeks. And guess what?” 
You perk your eyebrows at his question. “What?” 
“Our group did great.” He raises a hand for a high-five and you indulge him. “The teacher liked our slides and our analysis of the topic. Ah, I feel so good right now!” He leans back with his hands behind his head, but he suddenly jerks. 
“We should go out!” Suna grabs your hands and looks at you expectantly. “You’re free the whole day tomorrow right? You’re not working the shift? Let’s celebrate. It’s my treat!” 
Feeling overwhelmed by his invitation and his overall excitedness, you laugh and pull back. “Calm down, Suna. I don’t know about tomorrow.” 
“Why? Are you busy?”
“Not really but..” 
“Then it shouldn’t be a problem.” He tucks a loose hair behind your ear, leaning close with his voice barely over a whisper, “It’s perfect. I’ve wanted to take you on a date for a long time now.” 
“What?” You stare at him wide-eyed. 
“Come on, you’ve never thought about us?” He finds the situation entertaining. Your flustered reaction reminds him of the night that he met you. 
“Why do you think I’ve been coming to the convenience store when I could be sleeping at that time? I like being around you. My day doesn’t feel complete if I don’t at least see you or tell you about my day or listen to you rant about the latest episode of your favorite series.”
You like him. 
“Go out with me.” He kisses the back of your hand. “Please?” 
The corners of your lips unconsciously curves up and Suna sends your heart doing somersaults when he says something about how he’s finally got to see the beautiful smile he’s been wanting to see for weeks. 
Your friend was right. You do like him.

Korra coming to Republic City wasn’t all that bad, really. Bolin had already become fast friends with her before he knew her title.
Y/N and Mako were doing just fine, for the most part. Y/N continued to watch the pro-bending matches and practices. The only difference was that Korra began to watch with her, mesmerized by the swift movements of the brothers.
Korra hit it off well with Y/N. Neither of them had any issues, but Y/N made it obvious which one of the brothers was taken. Bolin was very forward with the avatar, making advances to get closer with her. Y/N was rooting him on, while Mako wasn’t the biggest fan of her. Y/N couldn’t quite pinpoint why Mako was such a jerk to her, especially since Korra was so nice to all of them and thanked them profusely for being her first friends in the city. His mood had decreased significantly since she first showed up before one of his matches, and it was taking a toll on Y/N’s attitudes as well.

When Bolin began to show Korra how to bend during a match, Y/N could notice that she was almost trying to impress Mako with her bending skills. Y/N began to grow extremely insecure, her non-bending suddenly becoming something she was ashamed of. There was never any issues with her not being able to bend, especially when hanging out with Mako and Bolin, but now Korra was suddenly making her very self conscious about herself.
These feelings started piling up. Y/N felt sick whenever she went to pro-bending matches, worried that Mako would suddenly decide to take an interest in her instead of his beloved girlfriend.
It wasn’t long ago when Y/N thought Mako was going to propose, and now some random girl from the Southern Water Tribe showed up, introduced herself as the Avatar, and put a wall between the lovers.
Korra was also leading on Bolin, which made Y/N’s dislike for her grow tremendously. She had been hanging out with him, making advances with him, and accepting every date he threw in her direction, yet still disregarded his attraction to her and used him to get closer to Mako.
Y/N saw right through this, and would often confide in her old friend, Lu, from school that lived in Republic City.
“Maybe the Avatar just wants to be close with an earth bender and a fire bender.” Lu had tried to tell Y/N.
“No, I’m telling you. Bolin really likes her but she’s after Mako. I don’t know why she isn’t understanding that I’ve been with him for a very long time and that he won’t leave me for her.” But oh, how Y/N was so incredibly wrong in that moment.
Not only did Korra manage to break Bolin’s heart, but she soon enough ripped Mako and Y/N’s relationship to pieces when Bolin was on his way to get her flowers.

“She’ll love these, Bo! They are gorgeous. Don’t you think so, Pabu?” Y/N gushed, picking a flower from the bouquet and lifting it up to the fire ferret who was sitting on her shoulder to smell. Pabu took a big whiff, squeaking and nodding in approval.
“Thanks, Y/N. And thank you, Pabu. Let’s go give these to her! I’m so nervous, but so excited!” Bolin exclaimed, practically vibrating with anxiousness about the girl he really and truly fell for.
As they walked throughout the city to the bending arena, they spoke on and on about anything and everything. Y/N had always gotten along with Bolin famously, which helped boost her and Mako’s relationship.
They reached the arena, and curled around the back near the large patio that overlooks the water and Air Temple Island. The sun had set almost half an hour ago, leaving a gorgeous array of oranges, yellows, and reds in the sky that reflected off the calm water’s surface. City lights were twinkling throughout the sky, and stars began to appear faintly.
“It’s a perfect night to do this. Wish me luck, Y/N/N!” Bolin turned, controlling his breathing and still shaking with anticipation.
Y/N passed Pabu onto his shoulders and adjusted the bouquet. “Good luck, you’ll do amazing. Just tell her how you feel and give her the bouquet!”
“Oh, please walk a bit further with me! You can hide behind one of the pillars, I’m just too nervous!” Bolin gasped out, out of breath from the nerves. Y/N begrudgingly agreed, eager to get upstairs and visit Mako.
She walked slowly along the edge of the railing, keeping an eye on Bolin as he walked.
But, something had stopped him in his tracks. His face grew immensely disappointed, angry, sad, and a whole jumble of emotions Y/N couldn’t name. Tears welled up in his eyes, the dim light on the walls making his eyes glisten. Bolin glanced over at her, his bottom lip trembling.
She hesitantly peeking out from behind the pillar, and was frozen just as much as he was.
There, right in front of the beautiful scenery, was Korra, macking her very own dearest Mako. A small puff of air escaped her lungs as she took a larger step towards the scene, dropped her arms & shoulders in defeat.
The very thing Y/N didn’t think would happen had came true. Her boyfriend, her love, her future, had cheated on her, with the very girl he had absolutely no previous interest of even being friends with.
Bolin blinked, and tears dropped to the marble ground. Y/N was crying now too, as she suddenly watched her future crash and burn. The two ahead of them broke apart, a smile growing on both of their faces.
That was, until Korra had looked behind Mako and saw the two people she was avoiding. Bolin, crying and holding a now messy bouquet that had been ruined by the wind, and Y/N, who was crying watching Korra help Mako cheat on her.
Korra never had any issues with Y/N. She’d always looked up to the girl, who had always gave so much love wherever she went and was never discouraged from people who made fun of her lack of bending abilities. But now, she had ruined any chance of being friends with her after she ruined the beautiful relationship of Mako and Y/N.
Mako was confused, and turned around to meet the eyes of his devastated brother and heartbroken girlfriend.
“Oh, no, no, no-!” Mako said, panic and realization setting in as he reached for his girlfriend. “This isn’t what it looks like!”
He was now running towards her, the tears streaming down her face more visible as he got closer. He stopped in front of her, putting his hands on her shoulders.
“I saw everything. This,” Y/N motioned between the two of them, “is over. Don’t ever speak to me again.” She turned and left, crossing her arms over her stomach to try to alleviate some of the pain that was reverberating through her chest.
“Bolin, please!” Mako’s voice cracked, turning to his brother to reason. Bolin angrily threw the bouquet at his feet, more tears falling on the slick ground.
“How could you?” Bolin asked quietly, furrowing his brows at Mako. He quickly turned and followed Y/N, catching up with her to comfort her.
Mako watched, defeated and absolutely broken, as his brother and girlfr- ex girlfriend walked away from him in tears and sorrow.
There was no recovering from this, and he soon realized he lost the love of his life and his very best friend, along with his last remaining family member that he loved so dearly.
And it was all because of the damned Avatar.

chapter one
“Olives or twist?”
Sirius had to watch the barkeep’s mouth to make out the words beneath the pounding music, which meant Sirius caught the way his eyes skittered across his face almost fearfully. The sheer amount of obsidian in this place probably did nothing to lighten his features. Not to mention, few people knew how to look him in the eye.
“Twist,” he said.
The man nodded and flipped the bottle of gin until it dipped into a shot glass, the glass into the ice. Sirius watched until he was stirring the bitters in and a hand appeared on his shoulder, lips to his neck.
“Burn this,” Saint said, and plucked at Sirius’ shirt sleeve, rubbing the black material between his fingers. Sirius raised an eyebrow as he turned. Saint’s own shirt was unbuttoned half way down his hard chest, light brown skin warm in the flashing club lights. “You’ve worn it too many times.”
“Hello to you, too,” Sirius said. “I like this shirt.”
“I liked it two months ago,” Saint replied. “It’s September now, your highness.”
Sirius scoffed as the bartender slid him his drink.
“You gonna tell everyone the sun did that?” Sirius took a clean sip of gin with one hand and stroked his other through Saint’s gold curls, only suddenly some of the slightly course strands were almost white.
Saint’s grin turned coy. “Isn’t it nice to have a mystery to think about?”
“Oh, yeah, do blonds have more fun?”
“You wouldn’t know.”
The music kicked up a beat that Sirius felt through his spine.
“Why do we always come here?” he leaned a hip against the bar. “We have an entire city.”
“Yeah, fuck the rest of the world, we have one whole city.”
Sirius rolled his eyes. “You know what I mean.”
Saint shook his head. “Because that’s what we do. You see that guy over there? I’ve taken him out four times. Couldn’t tell you his name. They couldn’t tell you mine.”
“Everyone knows your name, Saint.”
Saint grinned. “Maybe. But why do we go back to each other? Because we’re creatures of fucking habit.” Saint cocked his head, stole Sirius’ drink. “And what is this city but a bad, bad habit?”
Sirius’ blood cooled and he looked away.
What am I, Sirius? said the familiar voice from his memory. Am I easy? Am I safe? Do you want me, or am I just familiar now?
He closed his eyes against the memory of his reply.
Bad habit indeed.

The rumors can never seem to decide, but why the sudden change in plans to take his Junior year abroad? Here we were thinking he wanted nothing more than to stay.

Remus adjusted his suitcase, glad he’d mailed so many of his things home. He’d been on U.S. soil for all of three hours, and he already missed Rome. He wanted to walk down the tiny staircase from his billet family’s apartment and get a cappuccino. He wanted to stand on the drain of the Pantheon and soak up the sheer history in the air.
He already wanted a break.
But he also wanted to see Julian. Sometimes it felt like the only thing pulling him back home was seeing his baby brother’s grin in real life rather than across a Facetime call.
“All good?”
Remus looked up at Leo. His blond hair was still bleached a bright blond from the Roman sun. Their program had ended in May, but Remus was glad they had stayed together. He hadn’t been looking for Leo—for someone to kiss for the first time in the rose garden at the top of the Aventine Hill while Leo told him about its past as a cemetery.
It’s footpaths are laid out like a Minorah, see? Leo had pointed out. To remember. 300 different types of roses isn’t enough. But I like to come here.
Remus thought it had been Leo’s love for history, and his respect, too, that had drawn him in. They both came from a world where the biggest thing most people cared about was what they’d wear to the next party, and who was bringing their next drink.
Remus hadn’t been able to believe his luck, as fragile as his heart was still.
“Yeah,” Remus nodded. “All good.”
But he wasn’t sure. They hadn’t been friends here, in the city, or at Hogwarts. It had been Rome. Remus didn’t know what their old lives would do to them. But he took Leo’s hand and watched the way Leo fingered the star he wore around his neck, the way he shot Remus his dimpled smile.
“Come on,” Remus said. “I want you to meet Julian.”

Good morning Upper East Siders—Gossip Girl here. All trends point to Fall’s Hogwartsers coming back in Black—in more ways than one. Sirius Black’s got a baby brother on campus now, and after another wild summer for the Hogwarts College elite, count me in with the rest of them on wondering what to expect. Rumor is he’s not much like our favorite star.
“You don’t have to talk to me, you know.”
Sirius kept his eyes on his eggs and toast. “Your missing your tie. Mom said—”
“What do you care?” Regulus replied. “I hear when she used to make you wear one it usually ended up around some other guy’s neck by ten in the morning.”
“If you’re going to believe everything you read on Gossip Girl about me, then maybe I won’t talk to you.”
Regulus smirked. “So, you read it, too.” 
“Boys.”
Both brothers went back to their breakfasts.
“Good morning, mom,” Sirius said.
Walburga Black smiled with her painted lips, resting a hand on Sirius’ shoulder and bending to kiss his cheek.
“Don’t you both look handsome for your first day. Although that leather jacket has seen better days, Sirius. Do what you want for dinner, ask Chef, I don’t care. I’ll be at the House.”
The House. The House of Black, his mother’s million dollar fashion industry.
“Fine,” Regulus nodded, and rose. “I’ll take the first car.”
Sirius rolled his eyes again. “Really?”
Regulus just snatched up his backpack.
Saint, James, and Thomas were waiting for him on one of the courtyard tables when Sirius got out of the Escalade. It certainly felt like a first day of a semester. Saint’s neck dripped in gold necklaces—a story behind each one. Thomas, who had replaced his short braids with a closely shaved head, wore a white t-shirt and ripped up jean shorts, gold nose-ring glinting in the sun. James had evidently been helped out by Lily, as usual, a green, tight-fitting Henley shirt bunched up at his elbows. The two flanked Saint, who basked on top of the stone table, head tilted back to bare his throat in a way that made Sirius think of last night, in the back of the bar. He could see a purplish mark he had left there.
“You’re looking surprisingly chipper,” James said when Sirius reached Hogwarts’ courtyard.
Sirius raised an eyebrow, knowing he didn’t. “I’m not failing any classes yet, James.”
His friends went oddly silent. Sirius looked around at them, spreading his hands in confusion. Saint wouldn’t look at him, expression going oddly stoney. Thomas, finally, offered him his phone, biting his lip. Sirius took it.
His heart leapt to his throat. He didn’t even bother reading the Instagram caption. Remus loomed out at him from the phone screen.
“Leo Knut,” Saint said. “Who would have thought.”
Sirius cleared his throat and turned away from the picture—from Remus and Leo’s clasped hands.
“Why wouldn’t I be chipper?” he said again, and ignored their unconvinced expressions. “I’ve got class.”
Under his desk while he waited for the rest of the class to show, Sirius pulled out his phone and opened Instagram.

Remus approached campus slowly. He felt like he didn’t know anyone anymore, even if he knew that wasn’t true. He thought he saw James from afar, but Lily and Kasey didn’t have class today.
Really, Remus didn’t know if he had many friends that weren’t…shared. That didn’t feel too close to home. Manhattan wasn’t that big of an island.
He looked down at his schedule he’d written out on his phone.
The 19th Century Novel - Hogsmeade R#302.
He made his way to the Hogsmeade building and climbed the spiral staircase quickly. It all felt too industrial, too metallic. At least he’d woken up with Leo, who still had the ancient air about him. He didn’t want that bubble to pop.
“Mr. Lupin,” Professor McGonagall beamed when he walked in, and Remus smiled, too at her familiar Scottish drawl. “It’s so very nice to have you back.”
“Hi, Professor. It’s good to be—”
But the words died on Remus’ tongue. He looked out at the small class—just twenty at this high level—and his heart, out of habit it seemed, had leapt at the sight of familiar dark hair.
Uh-oh. Looks like Pyramus and Thisbe are actually wishing for a wall between them this time.
Sirius’ hair was shorter than it had been at the end of sophomore year, the last time Remus had seen him. He wore a touch of a beard, too, just scruff, really, but it framed his silver eyes like darkness to the stars—two stars, which were zeroed in on Remus.
“Back,” Remus tried to recover, mouth dry. He sent McGonagall a shaky smile, and turned to find a seat, trying not to find those stars again.
He resisted the urge to close his eyes in defeat when he realized that there was only one left. He walked towards Sirius looking ahead and with his heart pounding. Leo. Leo making pancakes for him and Julian this morning. Leo making his little brother laugh. But he could smell the worn leather of Sirius’ jacket. He remembered the feel of it around his own shoulders. Are you cold, baby?
“All righty, then,” McGonagall stood from her chair and leaned against the front of her desk, looking down her spectacles at the attendance sheet. “Looks like we’re all here.”

“Well?” Saint asked as Sirius took the joint from between his fingers.
“Sat down next to me,” Sirius said. “Didn’t say a fucking word.”
“Did you say a fucking word?” Saint raised his eyebrows.
Sirius blew out smoke. “No.”
“Well, all right, you fucking hypocrite.”
Sirius looked over at him from where they lay side by side, stretched out in the fading sunshine of Central Park. “I’m keeping this now.”
“No, you’re not. Did you pay for that? I don’t think so.”
Sirius scoffed. “Yeah, like this made a dent in the Montague treasuries.”
Saint laughed, tucking a palm behind his head. Sirius let his eyes linger on the strip of skin where his shirt rode up. He’d kissed that last night, too. It was nice with Saint. He’d been friends with him for longer than he could remember. Saint never looked for more. If Sirius snapped at him, he snapped back and then they laughed about it. Saint wandered through the world loving people freely. He kissed them, or he made them dinner, or he took them for long walks along the river. He showed them his favorite jazz club, or gave them the orgasm of their life, or read to them from his favorite books. He was New York in human form, accepting and inviting, living and breathing.
Sirius wished he was so trusting, even if trust seemed a funny word to apply to Saint.
No one ever got too close to either of them, except the other.
“What are you wearing to your mom’s fashion show?” Saint asked with his eyes closed. “It’s the event of the season.”
“Are you joking? The fittings started in July.”
“Mm, I love that,” Saint grinned, stretching. “Want to come help me decide what I’m wearing? We’re at the Plaza right now, you know that. You know my mother. If it’s not broken, break it. We’re renovating again. We can order champagne to the room.”
“Is that code for make out?”
“Partly. But I will be showing you my outfit choices.”
“Deal.”

Remus made it back home seeing no one, but one of the butlers had an envelope with his name on it waiting for him.
“Thanks, Moody,” Remus murmured, but thought briefly about handing it right back to him.
He knew this invitation. He knew its black boarders and heavy stock. It came ever year.

“Jesus,” Remus breathed, but took it up to his room, checking the time on the way. Julian would still be at school, his parents at work. This apartment was too big for the four of them, not to mention just Remus alone.
His suitcases still lay open and unpacked on his floor, and he kicked at one without looking up.
“So, did you just forget to mention that you were home?”
Remus spun towards his bed, only to find Lily sprawled across it and fiddling with an emerald on a chain.
“I had to find out from Gossip Girl?” Lily shook her head.
Remus slapped the invitation against his thigh. “Wow, wasn’t like that was a surprise present for you or anything.”
Lily smiled, red hair in a thick french braid. “I see green and I know it’s for me. What can I say?”
Remus huffed out a laugh, and she gave a small squeal and pushed off of the bed to wrap him in a hug.
“I’m so happy you’re home, Re.”
He let himself rest his chin in the crook of her neck for a moment. ‘Thanks, Lils.”
She pulled back, hands on his shoulders. “What, no, me too?”
“I am,” he said tentatively. “But I had fun in Rome.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Southern fun?”
“His name is Leo,” Remus said pointedly, then eyed the pile of garment bags piled high on the other side of his bed. “Are those…”
“Pour moi, et pour toi,” Lily patted his cheek. “We have a fashion show to go to, sweetheart.”

Life had fucked Harry Potter over, that was for sure. It basically said “fuck you” and gave him the responsibility of saving muggle and wizardkind alike. Robbed him of a family, of a childhood, of any semblance of the confidence he so desperately needed. 
But life always outs. Life will always find a way to straighten itself out, even the scales. Life had given Harry Sirius Black, so it was doing a pretty good job so far. Just as life had fucked Harry Potter, it’d fucked Sirius Black too.
When life gave them each other it slowly started mending its wrong doings with Sirius’ false imprisonment, Harry’s lack of a father figure, their shared lack of affection of any sort. In Harry Sirius had found a friend, a son and in Sirius, Harry had found a father, someone to care.
You had spent the last five years watching Harry suffer trial after trial all while you suffered a trial of your own, the trial of loving him from afar. As much as you adored Harry, and you really did, how could you not? From the blush that painted his cheeks at the slightest compliment, to the way his glasses sat crooked on his nose, to the messy black mop of hair that sat upon his head the boy was completely and utterly loveable. But it was because of the love you harbored for the boy that you refused to confess your feelings to him, he had more than enough on his plate. The Boy Who Lived most definitely had better things to do with his time than deal with the feelings of a hormonal teenager. Perhaps that was life’s way of fucking with you, making you love a boy who didn’t have it within him to love you back.
Life didn’t get to fuck with Harry Potter anymore, he’d done more than his fair share of suffering, of grieving, he’d more than served a punishment he’d never earned. That’s all you could think about as you saw Bellatrix point her wand at Sirius’ form, laughing maniacally as a jet of green light shot from the tip of her wand, aimed directly at Sirius. 
Head thrown back in laughter, eyes closed, it was clear that he wasn’t going to be able to dodge the curse leaving you with no other option but to full on tackle him. You threw your body at him, aiming to take him down at the knees but failing rather miserably instead wrapping your arms around his chest and instead of knocking him to the ground, making him stumble backward.
Regardless, on the floor, or a few inches to the right, you still managed to knock him out of the curse’s path. Sirius hadn’t realized who was on top of him or that their intentions were good rather than evil, in the heat of the moment, with curses flying to and fro you were flung from his body as he knocked you onto the floor.
As you landed on your side, your arm trapped beneath you, you heard the distinct, sickening snap of what couldn't have been anything other than bone. The sound rang through the din in the room, impossible to miss but yet no one seemed to offer you so much as a glance, anyone except Sirius that was. 
“Shit” He swore, bending down to access the damage, gently turning you on to your back so that he could get a better look at your arm, “I’m so sorry (Y/N).”
“It’s fine Sirius,” You slurred, not daring to look at your arm, the pain you were feeling was enough, you were more than fine without visuals to match. Having never broken a bone before you were not ready for the immense pain that festered in your arm, sharp and stabbing it felt like every single nerve in your arm was being bludgeoned over and over again, mercy be damned.
“You’re slurring your words (Y/N),” Sirius scolded, not angry at you but rather at himself, “You’re not okay and it’s not fine. Now did you hit your head too?”
You thought for a moment, had you hit your head?
Yes, you remembered the thump of your skull against the hard stone of the room hidden deep within the Department of Mysteries, and the more you thought about it, the more clearly you could feel that the dull thrum of pain was still present where the initial impact had occurred.
 “Y-yeah,” You stuttered out, your vision blurring as the man kneeling above you started to fade, “I think so, it hurts.” Black spots began to dance through your vision, the cacophony of noise in the room became a low buzz as the sound of your blood rushing through your veins overwhelmed you. It became the only thing you could hear.
You heard the faint noise of Sirius letting out a slew of curses, not all of which seemed to be in English as his hands moved to your scalp, gently pressing down until a sharp pain coursed through you. 
“Fuck,” Someone, swore, him or you, you weren’t sure. It was very possible it had been either of you as Sirius pulled his hand away from your head and back into your visage. His middle three fingers were soaked in blood, your blood. Crimson and dripping from his digits the metallic scent flooded your nostrils making you work not to gag as you found the stench to be truly nauseating. 
He spoke again, or at least you thought he did as you could faintly make out the whisper of his voice and the moving of his lips.
Faintly you wondered if you heard the familiar voice of a certain bespectacled boy, frantic as he approached you, and the glimpse of dark, messy hair you caught almost convinced you of such. But as more and more blackness took over your vision it became harder and harder to tell until you were completely swallowed, and your eyes blinked closed into a dark, dreamless sleep.
“She’s not exactly asleep,” Someone was talking.
“Well she sure as hell isn’t awake,” There was someone in the room.
“If you’d let me finish Mr. Weasley-”
“Oh shut up,” This voice was new, deeper than either of the previous ones, its posh accent distinctly different than the other two, “No need to condescend the boy just tell us if (Y/N)’s going to be alright. Harry’s going to want to know when he finishes his business with Dumbledore.”
Harry? Was Harry alright? Stupid question, if precedent was anything to go on, he probably wasn’t.
At the mention of his name you felt a wave of energy surge through you, it was only with that energy you were able to blink your eyes open. They desperately wanted to close as the harsh white light of the room flooded your irises but you refused to let them, instead squinting so that the light entering your vision was limited. 
“As I was saying,” The first voice continued, “She’s in a medically induced coma, this isn’t a restful sleep this is because she can’t afford to be conscious right now and when she wakes up she’s going to be in a whole world of pain and having the six of you here isn’t going to help her.”
No one seemed to notice your new state of consciousness as they continued their conversation, voices tense with worry as they batted back and forth in a game of verbal racketball, a question met by an answer which was countered by another question.
You were too out of it to take offense to their neglect as you felt that surge of energy start to slip away from you, like sand through your fingertips. Grasping onto the last whispers of it before it drifted away from you entirely you cleared your throat, the sound minuscule but apparently just loud enough to catch the attention of a certain red headed girl.
“(Y/N),” This voice was unmistakable Ginny. You turned your head to face the source of her voice, met by the blurry outline of unmistakable Weasley red, they really should just patent it at this point, hair surrounding a pale face. “(Y/N) you’re awake!” She lunged towards you gripping your arm in her hand, albeit a little painfully, but all pain, and sound, and sight seemed fuzzy, like remembering a dream from the night prior.
At Ginny’s words, all heads in the room snapped to your form where you laid in the hospital bed, looking as though you’d seen better days. Which granted, you had. 
It took a second for them all to register the meaning behind what Ginny had announced, but as soon as they did they went into a flurry, a healer rushing to take your vitals, moving her wand up and down your body, muttering incantations under her breath. Molly was at your side, gazing at you with brown eyes swimming with worry as she ran a hand down the side of your face which was still lolled to the side. Two identical boys stood at the foot of your bed while two girls, the previously spoken of redhead and her curly haired friend stood back, giving the Healers space to move about. 
Sirius stood over Molly’s shoulder, his eyes drowning in guilt as he failed to return your gaze. 
“Where am I?” Godric you sounded awful, and it felt like there was gravel in your throat, irritating you even as you merely swallowed.
“St. Mungo’s darling,” Molly answered promptly, trying and failing to suppress a sniffle, “You were hurt at the Department of Mysteries.”
You remembered, oh you undoubtedly remembered. The ache in your arm and head was more than enough to remind you of what had occurred, it was reinforced by the dark haired man looming in the corner refusing to meet your eyes.
After a good deal of fussing both by the Healers and Molly people finally started to stream out of your room, first Ginny and Hermione, followed by the twins and finally the Healers and Molly. 
That left just you and Sirius, who still refused to meet your eyes, in the small room which smelt of dittany and blood. 
It was silent for a minute, then two, before you simply couldn’t take it anymore, if he wasn’t going to say something you would, “S’not your fault Sirius,” Your voice was still rather hoarse but it had improved significantly after downing the three cups of water than had been placed in front of you. 
“You were just trying to save me, you did save me and now you’re hurt.” His head which had previously been hung raised to finally meet your eyes, the shame he carried in his eyes was palpable, remorse etched into his face. A face which reflected every year he’d lived on this planet and then some. 
“M’gonna be fine Sirius, you didn’t know it was me I know you didn’t mean to hurt me.” You shook your head lightly to refocus your eyes but that just amplified the pain already pounding in your skull.
Reluctantly Sirius trudged towards you before pulling a chair up to your bed and eventually resting himself in it, not looking at your face but rather at the foot of the bed. “Why’d you do it (Y/N)? Why’d you go to all that trouble to save an old man like me?” There was none of his usual humor in his voice, only a sorrowful curiosity.
“You’re all he has left Sirius,” This drew his attention, craning his neck to look at you, his eyes, accompanied by his continued silence urged you on, “You can’t die on him because then he’ll have no one.”
For the first time since you’d tackled him in the Department on Mysteries however long ago, Sirius Black smiled. Unlike his usual smirks or grins, the one that graced his face was gentle, and perhaps a bit hopeful as well.
“Not so sure about that love,” He let out a laugh so light it was barely a laugh, more like a puff of air, “He’d still have you, wouldn’t he?”
You willed yourself not to give away your true feelings for Harry to his godfather of all people, but the nervous grin that adorned your face was a dead give away to his already good guess.
“He cares about you (Y/N),” Sirius was merciful, sparing you from verbalizing the feelings that the both of you now acknowledged existed, “We had to drag him away from you at the Department of Mysteries.”
“That was Harry?” You perked up, “I didn’t just imagine him?”
“Nope,” He replied, popping his p, “He almost punched Moony when tried to drag him away from you.”
Not knowing how to respond to that you simply didn’t.
“He had to meet with Dumbledore to discuss something, that’s why he wasn’t here when you woke up,” Sirius explained.
“Oh, its okay, I’m sure he has much better things to do than come visit-”
You were cut off mid sentence by the sound of feet thumping down the hallway outside your room. Both you and Sirius turned your heads to watch someone fly by the cracked door of the room, his voice booming as he called out for you, then Ron, then Hermione. 
“Sir, I’m going to need you to be a little quieter,” The stern but kind voice drifted into the room from the hallway.
“Where is she?” Yup, that has Harry. The sound of his voice was ingrained in your head and had been for countless years now. 
You and Sirius stayed silent, still watching the door, listening to the tense conversation taking place between Harry and the St. Mungo’s staff member before you heard Hermione’s voice cut in, trying to calm the two men down.
“Well it sounds like he’s going to be in here soon,” Sirius said, standing up from his chair, gazing down at you.
“It does,” You agreed.
“I will never be able to thank you enough (Y/N), not only for saving my life today but for being such a good friend to Harry, giving him the love that he deserves.” Tears brimmed at the raven haired man’s eyes as he laid his palm atop your hand.
“Of course Sirius,” Your voice cracked mid sentence as you too were gulping down tears.
Leaning down Sirius pressed a fatherly kiss to the crown of your head just as Harry burst through the door.
“Speak of the devil,” The older chuckled, pulling back to his full height as Harry bounded towards you, completely ignoring the presence of his godfather. 
“(Y/N)!” His long legs got him to you in no time at all, when he reached you his eyes snagged on your broken arm before meeting your own. 
Sirius sent you a silent wink as he slipped from the room, you hadn’t noticed him even make his way towards the door. He made sure to shut the door tightly behind him so that you and Harry would be granted some privacy.
“Hi Harry,” You let out a watery chuckle as you took in his appearance, he looked like he’d gotten caught in a wind tunnel with his hair all messy, and the fabric of his tight fitting t-shirt clinging to his chest. 
“Don’t laugh,” He frowned down at you as he settled himself next to you on the bed, “You might hurt your lung or something.”
You smiled at his clueless, over protective behavior, “S’not my lungs that are hurt H, just my arm and my head.”
“There’s nothing just about it,” He countered, “You’d be fine without your arm but you need your head (Y/N/N), can’t go walking around without it.” 
You opened your mouth to say something but you didn’t get the chance before he started talking again, pushing himself off up the flimsy mattress to pace next to your bed, “What the hell were you thinking jumping on Sirius like that?”
You rolled your eyes at his outburst, “Bellatrix had cast the Killing Curse at him, Harry, he was going to die if I didn’t do something!” Your voice raised against your will as you got defensive, you may have loved Harry but that didn’t stop you from getting aggravated with him when he was being an idiot. Take now for example.
“You could’ve died (Y/N)! Don’t you understand that? You could’ve died and I-”
“But I didn’t Harry! I didn’t die and I’m fine now.”
“The hell you are! You’re lying in a hospital bed at St. Mungo’s with a broken arm and a concussion, if that's your definition of fine then I’d hate to see what not fine is!”
“I’m a big girl Potter, I can take care of myself,” You argued, pushing yourself up on the bed so that you were sitting upright, independent of your pillows. How was he being so daft? You’d saved the closest person he had to real family and now here he was, completely railing on you.
He was so caught up in his own head, continuing to pace up and down the length of the room that he didn’t seem to notice when you started swaying, no doubt because you had lifted yourself up too quickly and your head should’ve been resting on your pillow. 
“You may be a big girl (Y/N), but clearly you shouldn’t be left to your own devices because what would possess someone to do something so idiotic?”
You tried to swallow the anger you felt bubbling up in your stomach, threatening to explode in an eruption of words you weren’t quite ready to say out loud. But as he went on and on you found it harder and harder to swallow your feelings until they inevitably bubbled over.
“You idiot,” You cut him off, too fed up with him to listen to what he had to say, “I wasn’t going to let Sirius die because he’s the only family you have Harry! You love him and it would kill me to see him ripped from you, just like so many other good things have been ripped from you, because…”
You went silent, all of a sudden your voice seemed very loud in the sterile room and you realized it’s because he finally shut up. 
“Because why?” He asked turning so that he was facing you, “Because why?”
“Because I-” You felt a rush of heat flooded your face and quickly averted your gaze from the boy, focusing instead on the clock hung on the wall opposite your bed. 
You were quiet for a moment, hoping he would show you mercy and continue on with his ranting but he didn’t. Harry never did stand down from a fight, especially not one that he could win. 
Coming to terms with the fact that the only way this was ending was with a confession from you, you gulped. And with your saliva you swallowed your pride, turning back to face the boy who still hadn’t taken his eyes off of you. 
“Because I love you, okay?” You admitted to him, letting your vision glaze over so you wouldn’t have to see the eventual look of guilt wash over his features before he gently turned you down, apologizing, calling you beautiful, telling you how you deserved someone better. Even though there was no one better than him.
You thought he looked like a deer caught in the headlights as he stared at you, unblinking. 
Eventually, after what could’ve been a couple of seconds or could’ve been a couple of hours, he spoke, “Y-you love me?” He sounded incredulous like he didn’t really believe you.
And that’s when it hit you, he didn’t really believe you. 
As a wave of indescribable sorrow washed over you, at the notion that the beautiful boy in front of you really had no clue just how beautiful he was, you maneuvered yourself so that you could stand up, throwing one leg over the edge of the bed, and then the other.
Pushing yourself up into an upright position you were immediately swaying, ready to collapse onto the floor, and Harry must’ve observed that as he came back to his senses as he looped his arms under yours, pulling you into his toned chest, hard from countless hours of Quidditch practice.
“What do you think you’re doing (Y/N/N)?” His voice was softer now, meant for only you to hear.
“Was gonna show you how much I love you,” Your voice was muffled by the fabric of his t-shirt as you abandoned all of your inhibitions, you needed to tell him how you felt, “You clearly don’t believe me when I tell you and that’s ridiculous Haz because you’re lovely and wonderful and you light up my day every time I see you. I can’t imagine my life without you,” You paused your ramble, not noticing the brilliant shade of vermillion his face had turned.
“No, I can imagine it without you Harry and it’s horrible, it’s not a life worth living.”
“Don’t say that (Y/N),” He cut you off, a frown gracing his enviably red lips.
“Would you let me finish Potter?” You sniped playfully, “I love you, Harry, I’ve loved you since we were first years and it kills me that you don’t see how lovable you are. Because you are lovable Harry,” You pulled back a bit to rest your chin on his chest, gazing up at him, “You are completely lovable, and that’s why I put myself in harm’s way today, because if it meant saving someone you love, then it is worth it. It will always be worth it.”
You watched as tears spilled down his cheeks, but you could tell by the smile pulling at his wobbling lips that they were happy tears, “Y-you love me?” 
How your heart could break at three simple words baffled you but it did, “I love you, Harry, I have loved you and I will always love you.”
A smile overtaking his entire face split it in half, a toothy grin you’d like to see on him more often, “I-”
“You don’t have to say it back H, the fact you’re not turning me down right now is more than enough. You don’t have to say it back, we can take it slow,” You cut him off, not wanting to rush him.
“I want to though, I want to say it back.” He insisted, sounding like an eager puppy.
“Really?” You couldn’t suppress the optimistic lilt to your voice.
He nodded surely, still grinning down at you. “I love you (Y/N).”
You had to stop yourself from crying, or screaming, or jumping in the air, or some combination of all three, but that’s all you wanted to do. You wanted to scream and jump and cry but you preferred being in Harry’s arms much more. 
“May I kiss you?” Harry’s voice dropped to a whisper you could barely hear.
“Yes please,” You giggled, standing up on your tippy toes as he leaned down to capture your lips in his.
You poured all the passion of the past five years into that kiss, all of the stolen glances at him, all of the nights spent sobbing, thinking that he could never love you back. All of the sacrifices, all of the hugs, and the smiles you shared. They were all poured into the kiss and they all meant so much more now because being part of something so beautiful could only make those memories better.
Harry wrapped his arms around your back, pressing your body to his while being careful to mind your hurt arm. You dug the fingers on the hand of your healthy arm in his thick hair, using it as an anchor to pull yourself closer to him.
You pulled away first, taking big gulps of air in an attempt to refill your empty lungs. 
“You love me,” Harry stated simply, staring down at you adoringly.
“I love you,” You agreed with a small nod of your head.
“I can’t believe you actually love me.” He smiled again, this grin even goofier than the last, making his emerald eyes shine.
You smiled at the look of childlike happiness that adorned his face, “And I can’t believe it took me this long to tell you.”

Kaz Brekker x fem! Reader - Dark Grey
A/n: So this was request but I couldn't find who requested it (and it wasn't anonymous!) So whoever did just give me a hey! This is literally the longest fic I have ever written.
Warnings: Blood, gore, death, sad Kaz, language, torture, Parem I think that's it? You have been warned!
Summary: Your a double agent for the dregs
"Come on you little shits, we have a job to do." One of the higher ups of the Dime Lions yells at some men at some tables at the Emerald Palace in the back.
Little birds have told me that people have been raving about this place being extravagant, but it's really just extra dramatic if you ask me. The green of the building is like someone drunk from the Crow Club wandered over here and puked on it and someone just decided the color looked pretty, so they mixed some glitter and red and pow. There you have it.
That may just be me though.
I start to get up with all the others but the man who just yelled, jets hand in front of me, fast like I'm going to run off.
"The boss wants to talk with you about getting you higher status." The man growls obviously not happy about someone who could be possibly taking his spot and he's probably not happy it could be a girl. Well sucks too suck.
I almost nod and have an emotionless face on but I realize that's the real me would do that, have have to be Cozbi and she's a little naive. But she's good enough if Pekka wants to notice her.
I let a smile crawl on my face; "Well I guess your just going to have to tell Mr. Rollins I would be delighted." I say nearly flirting with an accent, but more taunting like as I twirl my tailored unnatural bright red hair (like it's VERY bright) around my finger and I grin like a popular school girl.
"I'm not your messenger." The man scowls.
"But boss wants you up there in five minutes." He snaps and goes off face all red.
I barely even manage keep into place long enough as the men walk out to start their job. As soon as they do I speed off to a bathroom and I write on a piece of paper in a stall.
Giving me higher status, think he's getting suspicions though. Their going on a job tomorrow night to take out the Blacktips. Amush. Pekka also got a stash of Parem. Don't know why. Stay Safe, don't give clues. Frame someone.
-Your favorite person from the barrel
I open the window above my stall and I do a low whistle.
Fweet. Fweet.
A crow comes and lands on the window sill I grin slightly and my (also tailored) e/c eyes touch down on the raven haired bird. I'm reminded of Kaz's raven hair and his dark brown eyes as I hand him the folded note and the bird tilts it's head and takes the note and fly's off.
I flush the toilet and hurry out heading to Pekka's office.
I open the door slowly priding myself for being exactly a minute late, it works really well for who I'm playing. I see Pekka siting in his chair but instead of waiting for me like I thought he would be. Right now though he's reading something with a almost confused look on his face.
Shit.
"Well, well, well Cozbi your finally here." Pekka smiles not a nice smile - though he is a barrel boss.
The door shuts behind me and someone shoves me to the ground and people surround me and hold me in place.
"Or should I say Y/n." And then everything goes black.
_______________Time skip a few hours in a random warehouse (not that you know that)😈😈😈___________________________________
I slowly open my eyes and I look around the place. I'm tied to chair there's no light in the room so it's hard to make out anything but I think the floor is concert but the walls are wood.
Cheap.
"I didn't think you would be up so soon Y/n... Well this is a surprise." Rollins says and then in flash stabs a dagger into my stomach.
My scream fills the air as he pulls the knife out. I make my voice quiver I can still be Cozbi, I can still be Cozbi.
"I-I don't know who Y/n-Y/n is sir-sir." I stutter but my entire body is on fire from being in enough interrogations before. It's telling me to be harsh to not get to the point, but I might be able to get out of here if I play the part.
He takes my jaw and shoves it forward harshly. "We already know who you are L/n. Y/n L/n the dregs notorious double agent that never gets killed or even better caught."
Pekka smiles sadistically.
"I'm going to make sure this story ends in red." He laughs.
He goes to leave but he puts his hand up.
"And make sure she's can't see." His henchmen put a blindfold on me as I hear the door close. I can feel them coming closer and I hear one smack something on the ground that must have been a bat.
"Let's have some fun girly." I tug at my bonds hopelessly and helplessness fills my body.

My screams ring this room for the next week.
Or what I at least think is a week. There's no windows in here so it's hard to tell when time pass's. Pekka doesn't come back again but I know his coming soon because his henchmen have been worse than usual because they want a raise or something.
I gave up thinking Kaz would come. I remember what he told me last time I saw him before I went on this mission.
We won't come for you if you get caught and it's only a matter of time before you do.
I messed up the last mission we were on with the crows, I got Inej hurt and he wasn't happy. So I did this job.
Because maybe then I would get what I deserved.
My hands have knives through them sticking them to the chairs, there's blood all over my face from the daily beatings. My one leg is twisted and broken in ugly places and cuts and bruises litter my body.
I know it's only a matter of time before my body gives out and Pekka finally wins.
The door to my (what feels like) cell opens and there's Pekka and six more henchmen in the room.
Those are new.
They might not be henchmen though I think we're past that at this point, I think their assassins.
Or something like that anyways.
Their hoods are up but I can clearly see that there's two girls and four guys. My vision blurs a little. Maybe death will grant me mercy sooner than I thought.
"Meet my new friends Cozbi." Pekka mocks and jesters towards the cloaked figures.
"Ironic that you choose the name Cozbi. For did you know, it means liar? I thought maybe I should call you that now, liar. It fits perfectly you know?" Pekka spits in my face.
"Anyways..." Pekka drawls on for a bit and I realize the lack of movement in the halls. But before I can question that one of the male hooded figures gives a box to Rollins and he opens the box. Rollins grins like someone just made his day.
Fuck.
He advances on me with a small packet and I stay deadly still.
"Do you know what this is Cozbi." I keep my eyes trained on the packet.
"My name is Y/n."
Pekka laughs and grins evilly.
"You wanted to be Cozbi so you will be called as such." He growls and calls for is henchmen.
Two men come to tip my head back and hold my jaw in place. I try to shake them off by moving my head but it's no use.
"It's Parem." I freeze. No, no, no.
"For grisha you suffer by always wanting it not inculding the rare cases. But for normal humans."
He takes a step forward and he opens the packet and holds it over my mouth.
"It kills you terribly and so, so, so painfully." He crouches down and looks at me.
"Your going to die as Cozbi. Your going to die a liar, and I will make sure all of Ketterdam remembers that."
He gestures towards his henchmen and instead of trying to prier open my mouth like I expect them too.
They go and pull up my hands.
My hands go through the hilts of the blade and it hurts so much I can't do anything but scream.
Pekka shoves the Parem in my mouth.
My body feels like it's withering away and Pekka laughs as I vibrate against my seat. I feel my eyes widen and the only thing going through my head is that Rollins is a foul.
The knives.
And I'm not going out without a fight.
I pull the knives out of the handles of the seat and I scream as the hilt of the blades touch my skin but I quickly cut the bonds around me and I stab one of my knifes into the first henchmen.
I leap towards the other and I barley manage the scrap him before my body hits the floor and I can't move anymore.
Searing pain stabs through my body like multiple knives just stabbing me over and over again I expect Pekka to be the last face I see and I murmur something about the saints but then I see it.
The hooded figures.
It's the Crows.
The henchmen are down on the floor and Pekka is tied up and gagged to the chair. I feel my vision start to blur and the Crows go to check the area.
"We have to get her a healer!" Someone yells. But I'm on my back looking up and I barley even recognize that things are happening around me. It's like I'm watching from a different world but I can't do anything.
"Y/n!" Someone yells and picks me up from my spot on the ground.
"Come on Y/n!" Someone whisper-yells.
I groan as the person starts walking and I let out a rattling breath, that I knew that should concern me but I couldn't care less.
I just wanted it to end.
"Your not dying on me today Y/n."
Kaz, I think it's Kaz.
Everything shifts back into focus, Kaz is running (even with his bad leg) and somehow the searing pain from the parem in my body has started to subside. Noticing the many, many yards of guards running after the crows and some group of them has so, so, so many guns pointed right at Kaz.
Then it happens.
Suddenly I feel above the others, like I have powers that no one has ever had. The universe was bending to my will and I gasp as I'm lifted up into the air by something shadowy, and dark blackness surrounds my legs all the way up to my waist. I don't quiet know what I'm doing but it feels natural, like I knew how too do it all along.
I raise my hands into the air and shadows burst out into the open.
Guards are being cut in half, some are being chocked to death, some look like their getting stabbed multiple times as wounds just show up. Others look like they have a disease as darkness spreads across their bodies. And some just fall to the floor and die silently.
Their dead.
The power, and the need to protect everyone I care about is gone.
I don't even scream.
I hit the ground with a thud and I try to open my mouth as Kaz frantically pulls me into his arms cradling me. No, that couldn't be right though.
He yells for someone but I can't make it out I try to blink, but even that is hard and it's so slow and I can feel Kaz bring me closer too him but I don't really know what's reality anymore.
"Y/n." The voice (although it tries not to show it) lets concern and fear run through the words. I gasp.
"Kaz." I manage to say. He pulls me (somehow) closer as he lifts my face up to look into his.
He says something, but I can't comprehend anything he's saying. The edges of my vision start going black and everything else is going fuzzy.
"You'll live!" Kaz says, trying to reassure me but it sounds like he's trying to reassure himself more.
I place a hand on his and I want to say something, but the words are all mixed up and it feels like concrete is holding my jaw shut. Everything starts slowly turning black and I'm internally screaming in my head;
No! I have to say something! I can't go like this!
It's useless though, because everything slowly fades away the last thing I see is the dark brown of Kaz's concerned eyes.
_______TIME SKIP_____________________________________________
The light bulb of whatever room I'm in flickers off and on as darkens seems to try and cover it. I take a look around to see all the Crows tied up to a chair each, they have gags in their mouths and they look like they have been tortured out of their minds.
I run over to Wylan trying to help him out, but he let's out a muffled scream as I go towards him. I quickly turn to Jesper but he's so still in his seat not even looking at me.
Nina and her confident demeanor is gone, her aura is laced with panic and Matthias is with her on that one.
Inej can't seem to stop shaking, making her presence known to everyone. Then I turn to the last chair and my heart must have stopped.
Kaz's corpse lays, in the chair. Bubbles of darkens, are around his mouth and it looks like it chocked him to death.
Dirtyhands was finally beaten.
Then darkness shoots out of me, and I can't seem to stop it as it kills everyone else.
I sit up and a scream rips through my throat. I breath in heavily trying to get the air into my lungs. Everything in me burns, pain course's through me like a parasite on steroids, but at least time I succeed at muffling my scream.
I hear someone running from another room and the door fly's open. On command darkens shoots out from my hand and starts chocking the person- Holy shit! That's Kaz!
"No!" And it all appears to fade away into the shadows.
Tears start to fill my eyes, what will happen when I'm in a real state of panic? Could my nightmare eventually come true?
I feel the bed dip beside me and despite my hardest efforts, my eyes wander over to Kaz.
He looks like he hasn't slept a day in his life, with the essentially black moons under his eyes. His skin looks chalky white, contrasting his red rimmed eyes that looks like he had been crying just a few minutes ago.
Concern fills my shadowed heart, something must have happened for the Kaz fucking Brekker to be like this. My fears about being a shadow summoner disappear, they do stay at the back of my mind but finding out what's up with the bastard of the barrel is more important.
I carefully place a hand on his cheek. He tense's up a bit before relaxing into the palm of my hand and even leaning into it a bit.
"What happened?"
Kaz looks at me in disbelief. "What happened?" He lets out a chocked laugh that holds a sob in the background.
"You died." My breath hitches in my throat, wait... That can't be right. Can it?
"Matthias had to do chest compression's on you while Nina tried to restart your heart. All because I couldn't fucking do it."
He takes in a breath and rips my hand away from his face.
"Your heart stopped Y/n, we thought you were dead. But they kept going and somehow saved you!" A sob tears through his throat and Kaz Brekker breaks down in front of me. His walls that he has tried so hard to keep strong have had a boulder thrown at it. Smashing it with so much force that he couldn't possibly rebuild it.
"I'm sorry." I whisper. "For all the pain I caused you." I somehow manage to speak as my own tears start to come up.
"Seriously? Your sorry?" Kaz turns to me and grips my shoulders.
"Your the one who died, damn it!"
"Hey I have something to hold over Jesper?" I try to joke and it gets a small, very tiny tried smile out of Kaz.
"And the fact that your a shadow summoner."
"I didn't know." I say quickly and I pull back defensively, Kaz just sighs.
"I know."
He lets his hands run down my arms and his hands make delicate patterns on my skin. Then I remember the parem. Fuck.
"What were the effects of the parem?" If anyone would know, it would be Kaz.
He pause's for a second seemingly in thought before opening his mouth the speak.
"Well your life span was shortened to a normal one." I exhale in relief at that news, I really didn't want to live for centuries.
"But your powers could surpass the Darkling's, and the only reason you don't have the opposite of what you have now is because you pushed it down for so long. The healers somehow purged the parem out of your body before it could make you a mindless addict."
"That better news then I thought I would get." Kaz nods but there's something else lingering in the back of his head.
He thinks I'm going to leave.
I intertwine our hands together, and I turn my head to look him right in the eyes.
"I'm not leaving." I blurt out.
"If I went to the little palace I would get hunted, if I went anywhere else I would get hunted. I might go into hiding for a bit, but I'm not leaving you."
A smile that's even bigger than the last one by some means crawls up on his face.
"Good, because I just got you back."

you were hunched on your floor with baskets of freshly washed clothes all around the floor. Whipping your head to the door of your dorm‘s bathroom, and you immediately regret it. The cheeky comment came from no other than Choi San - Resident fuck boy and unfortunately, your roommates best friend. He is the type of guy your parents would warn you from. The type to play with a girl until he’s satisfied and dips right after.
The type of you you would never want to get involved with in any sort of way.
But, since he hangs around your dorm frequently and you share a few classes and lectures, that was not easy. Crashing on the couch you bought with your roommate bought together when you moved in, more often than you’d like. Throwing certain looks at you when you entered the lecture halls or passed by him when he was chatting and smoking with his friends off campus. Never letting you breathe for a single moment, he enjoyed teasing you. Needless to say you hated his guts for many things, and he just added more reasons to your imaginary list with every passing day you saw him around campus.
Meanwhile, you’re lifestyle was the complete opposite of his, being the well mannered and friendly classmate, the typical nice girl everyone thought you were - and what your parents wanted you to be. Of course, you were not always like that, especially around your friends. With them you could act the way you truly are, and that was anything but the front you put on most of the time. But San made you drop any sort of friendliness to curse at him every chance you got. And right now was no different:
“Fuck off Choi. Wooyoung isn’t here, so leave.” you spat while not paying anymore attention to him, instead going back to the task at hand.
Taking a few steps towards you, inspecting the room as if he had seen it for the first time, and paying close attention of you putting clothes out of the washing machine. His eyes paying close attention to your hands that move in fluid motions.
“I know, but he’ll be here any second.” Trailing off, and you decided to not even answer him - he isn’t worth your time or nerves right now, after all he just wanted to get under your skin and rile you up. And the less you talk, the better.
He hums to himself, as he bends down to pick up one black, lacy pair of undergarments, inspecting them closely. His thumbs grazing over the neat material, fingertips holding them up in the air. You don’t realize he took something from the basket to your left until he comments on them.
“Are these new? Must be, huh... your little ass would look sooo cute in them. Are you gonna wear them for me one day, Y/N?” his low voice echoed through the tiled room, and you are fast to react: snatching the pair of panties back, out of his grip and throwing it back into the basket. Scoffing, showing your stride at him without any hesitation. “In your dreams. Now, leave me alone. I’m not gonna repeat myself, Choi.” Your features twist as you grow more and more annoyed with him.
“Oh don’t worry,” he backed up a few steps, but the cocky grin stayed on his lips, “with that attitude I’ll most certainly dream of it.”
You heard the door twist, which could only mean that Wooyoung was finally here to save you from any further suggestive comments. Considering you couldn’t stand anything more that was about to leave his mouth.
Admittedly, San has his reputation for a reason: him being one of the most handsome guys you have ever laid your eyes on. And if he wasn’t such an asshole, there would be a possibility you’d be interested in him. And yes, if the stigma that your parents had embroidered into your brain, that ‘sex is bad’ and to stay ‘pure’ until you’re married. If you could push that out of your mind for good, you would be maybe like San. Maybe, you’d even be with him... but god forbid he would ever find out you thought of him like that, especially when you had one of your moments, late at night. If he would know about your honest thoughts, he would use it to his advantage. He wouldn’t give in until he got his way with you - in his very own way.
“San-ah! Come on, we gotta go!” your roommate screams and prompts the visitor to get going quick.
“Too bad, guess I’ll see you around, Y/N. Maybe one day my dreams will become reality nonetheless.” He turns on his heels and dashes towards his friend. The repeating sound of the lock falling into place made you sigh out loudly, pressing your forehead against the cold material of the washing machine you’re still sitting in front of.
Incidents like these are not new and you have already gotten used to San having zero shame when it came to anything even remotely personal or sexual. He knew how he comes across, which only scores him more and more girls to take home and to make his body count grow rapidly. But until now, it hasn’t worked with you, and he’s trying time and time again to wrap you around his finger. Without success.
And you planned to keep it this way.
“I hate you for dragging me here.” you groaned after you kept chewing on the rim of your red cup. The girl on your right ignored your comment and kept scanning the crowd.
It was unbelievable, but yes: you were stuck on a frat party... again. Your cousin Mijung needed to meet a guy she was planning on hooking up with, and you lost a bet, so you had to go with her. „No, I’m not, and you know I can’t!“ you cut Mijung off and she lifts her hands up in defeat.
She just scoffs while scanning the place for faces she might recognize. “Yes, yes I know. God forbid your parents ever find out your at a party like this, or even have sex. But they have nothing to worry about.” Thinking to yourself that they really do not need to worry, but deep inside you wanted to do all these things that you got restricted from. Forcefully restricted yourself from, and the longer you thought about it, you wanted to go against it. Date and sleep with guys as you please, live a little. But still, something unknown was holding you back from it.
“You know it’s not just that but also-“ you started explaining yourself for the nth time in your life, but now she cut you off and hopped off her barstool. The man she was waiting for finally appeared and she left with him after they exchanged a quick peck as a greeting. Being uncomfortable with the scene, you fumbled with your phone in order not to look awkward or out of place - but that’s exactly what you were. And on top of that, you were alone.
You held your phone tightly in your grip, watching over the intense crowd, people on people and the sight made you nauseous, especially when you locked eyes with someone that was kissing or grinding on each other. You wanted to be able to do those sorts of things, but at the same time it scared you, almost disgusted you. But the sting of alcohol in your cup that you barely drank made everything worse. The situation altogether was just too much for you.
“Now look at that, am I high or is the notorious Y/N at our place?”
You cursed to yourself when you recognized his voice.
“Fuck off, Choi.” was the first and only thing that you could think of while still scrolling mindlessly through your apps to appear busy.
He slides into the seat Mijung left empty just a few minutes ago. “Now, you know that doesn’t affect me. I just wanna talk a bit. I’m not feeling getting hammered tonight if I’m being honest.” He started a conversation and you forced yourself to look at him. He looked too good to be true with his messy hair and black shirt and jeans. But you ignored his visuals in order to give him a strict look.
“And what do you wanna talk about? We never talk. And I’m not gonna be here for much longer anyways.” You explained and San rose and eyebrow at your comment. “Oh? So we’re do you plan on going?”
You didn’t know, since Mijung was left so early, you haven’t given it any thought other than going back home, even if it was too early to leave, but yet dark outside.
“Home. To my dorm. I hate places like this.” You looked away, and he noticed your discomfort. The atmosphere was really awkward between the two of you. As a result you turned slightly away from him.
He sighs, “You know, we can go somewhere quiet.” You adamantly shake your head at his suggestion, “no, I’m not going anywhere with you. You’re aware of your reputation and so am I. I’m not doing that.” you spat disheartinly, assuming it was another one of his attempts to get into your pants. But surprisingly, it wasn’t.
“No, you listen now,” he took hold of your arm and twisted you back to face him. “You’re uncomfortable here, I can see that. I’m taking you to my room. And not to get with you, but because I promised Wooyoung to take him home when he’s completely wasted tonight. I can take you home then alongside him.” he says and his brows furred a little.
Wooyoung was someone you trusted, so if he trusted San to take him home when he’s completely shitfaced, then maybe you could also trust him? All alarms went off in your head telling you he was anything but trustworthy. But as you looked into his eyes, there was something genuine about his offer. But after a few moments of thinking, you gave him the benefit of the doubt: you complied and nodded, “okay, but just because Woo trusts you.” But that was enough for him.
He got up and urged you to come after him, walking up the stairs until the loud noises from the other people steadily died down. After the two of you entered his room, your nervousness und sense of awkwardness disappeared again. Even if it was San, you were used to him, to his presence. And it was better then to be lost and alone downstairs.
“Make yourself feel at home.” He introduces you when he plops down at his bed, while you took a closer look around his personal space. There were plenty of books on his shelf, a flag hung up on the wall, and the desk was messy in books and other stuff he used frequently. To be honest, you imagined his room to be more messy, but it was just a kind of creative chaos.
The silence in his room was thick. He watched your movements closely for a while, but you tried to give him not much attention, even if you felt his stares linger on you. Minutes passed until he started to speak up again:
“Do you mind if I ask you something? I’m kinda curious, y’know.”
You turned around and look into his eyes, that are loosely hidden behind his dark strains of hair over his forehead. Arms pushed behind him on the bed to support his upper body, leaning back. You walk back a little until you sit down in a giant bean bag that was in the center of the small room. While you adjust yourself you look over to him once again, signaling him to continue talking. He sits up a little, leaning forward, elbows resting on his thighs.
“You know, any other girl would beg me to fuck them if they were in your spot. Why are you so determined to do anything but that?”
Taken aback, you knew San was bold, but you didn’t expect him to go there, especially not at this time, when he offered a hide out for you so considerably. Shrugging your shoulders you dip your chip to your chest and try to figure out a way to answer his question.

Stunned by his rant, you scanned his face for any signs of emotions, but it was really hard to tell what was going on in his head. Your future self your probably slap yourself in the face for this, but right now you got lost in his dark eyes and deep stare. Feeling vulnerable under the intensity of his gaze, not knowing what to do or say. Taking a quick breath, you uttered under your breath “where is this going, San?” Against all expectations, he smiles.
“Anything that happens here, between you and I, nobody else is gonna know about it. Not a single soul.” His hand slowly start to wander up your arm, touching the skin of your neck and threads his fingers through the strains of hair that rest on your shoulder. You don’t feel anything other than the alarms in the back of your mind slowly subside and be replaced by other thoughts.
“Just tell me no and I’ll stop.” His voice comes out raspy and seductive, and it sends waves of arousal down your core, even if the only physical contact you two had was from his wandering hands. The thought excited you, and he had a point: you could do whatever you wanted, and up until now, the consequences would keep you from giving into him. But there are no worries of the sort holding you back anymore, and if it was only for tonight, so be it. He was to strong, his effect was too strong.
His eyes never leave yours, until you give him an answer.

Chapter Four:
Here’s the thing.
Sam always knew that he and his brother were destined for something great. And, well, he can’t say that greatness didn’t fall on them. Yeah, sure, he spent thirteen years in jail. Who hasn’t? But despite that little hiccup in his life, Sam thinks that he’s done pretty well for himself. He’s discovered a lost city or two, with and without his brother, held some artifacts that were rumored to only be from stories, and tried one of the cigars from Sully’s collection. He even has a place to call his own now, his name on the mailbox downstairs, a doorman who greets him.
Honestly, it’s all he’s ever wanted growing up. More, even. Back in Panama, all he thought he wanted, besides, well, getting out, was to find Avery’s treasure with Nathan. It was that thought that kept him going most days. The idea of finding four hundred million worth of treasure! That was the dream. He and Nathan could finally settle down, or, rather, their version of it. Because they weren’t going to have a normal life. That was never in the cards for them growing up, but it was a nice thought, not having to worry about food or a place to stay.
And Sam hasn’t had to worry about that for a long time. He felt empty after Libertalia, that his story was only just beginning while Nathan’s was coming to a close. There are still things he wants to see, to do.
Time, he realized long ago, was something that he could lose so easily and he wasn’t going to let that happen again.
So he went on more adventures, climbed higher mountains, picked up little trinkets (a habit he got from his little brother, starting his own little collection) along the way to bigger, better things. (It’s just a shame that some things were destroyed along the way, like statues and buildings, but what can he say? It runs in the family.)
But tonight, after a long flight and an uncomfortable chair, all Sam wants to do is go to her and crash on her bed.
Because although Sam has a place to call home, a big apartment that’s filled with his stuff, clothes, souvenirs, a fish…it feels empty. Cold. Even if he had all the money in the world, Sam can’t shake off that feeling that he shouldn’t have too much. That in just a blink of an eye, all this could be gone. Because that has happened before—moving from place to place, packing what you can immediately get your hands on.
Sam wants riches, searches for them all over the world, but deep down he knows he doesn’t know what to do with them. That even if he dreams of more, he only knows how to live with enough.
So, he only has one pillow, a blanket. A towel and an extra, shampoo (the kind that has body soap mixed with it. 2 in 1! What a deal) and deodorant. Clothes, he knows to get the sturdy kind, the kind that won’t rip easily, that stains won’t be too obvious on. Shoes, too. He gets the ones that have good traction, that won’t chafe his feet, won’t deteriorate when wet.
The fish, Jim Hawkins—Jimmy was an attempt to liven up the place. To make it seem homey, to keep him company. But there’s only so much you can do with a fish and Sam can’t deck out Jim’s aquarium any more than he already has. “I’m ho…ome?” Sam drops his bag to the floor, more from being too tired to carry it than shock. He’d resigned to seeing her tomorrow, that it was too late to go over now, but there she is, curled up on his couch, toes peeking out from under a throw blanket. It’s hers. Sam recognizes it easily. It’s the same one she has thrown over her arm chair, the same chair Sam likes to lounge on when he’s found a good book to read.
“How was your trip?” She looks so cozy on his couch. Hands wrapped around an orange mug he’s never seen before, book on her lap. She doesn’t look like she going to get up and Sam can’t blame her. He sort of wants to curl up next to her, somehow squeeze his large frame in the remaining space. “Get me anything nice?”
“I, uh,” Sam’s swallows, blinking. “I’m not dreaming, right? Like, I didn’t get knocked out when I fell off the mountain?”
“You fell off what?” She’s moving to stand up, mug thankfully placed back on the table despite her haste, and Sam doesn’t want her to do that.

She gets up anyway, blanket falling to the floor, and, oh god, she’s wearing pajamas, oranges printed all over her cotton shorts. She’s by his side in seconds, hands reaching up to his face, bringing him down to her height so she can get a better look at him.
“Ouch,” Sam says, the movement too fast for his aching body. His muscles are sore and the trip home didn’t do them any favors. But she thinks that it’s her fault, that she’s hurt him and her hands are in the air, her eyes wide with both surprise and concern. “It’s not you. It’s just…,” Sam hates to say it, makes him feel old, but, “My back. I hit the ground pretty hard.”
“I feel dumb for asking…but are you okay?” Her hands are back on him, her touch gentle and giving comfort Sam didn’t know he needed. She doesn’t seem to know what to do first, how to check for injuries, but the thought is enough, her being here is enough, makes him feel better.
“Well, I’m alive,” Sam brings up his hand to push her hair away from her face. It’s soft, slightly damp from a shower. Oh. He probably needs one of those. “Nothing a hot shower can’t fix.”

Sam mentioned it to Nathan before, when they were in Italy, trying to find their way into the Rossi Estate. When you’re locked up with no hope of being let out, it’s the little things you miss the most.  
And Sam didn’t think that there was much to miss anymore now that he was out. He can ride his motorcycle anywhere he wants, go to his own bathroom any damn time he pleases, shower, eat, sleep, drink without permission. He can call Nathan and Sully and Elena without request, without reason. He can stay indoors or go outside without a schedule. He can live. The simple joys of being alive, Sam is able to enjoy them now, in much a greater magnitude than he has ever before.
Citrus, he remembers telling Nathan, he had missed the smell of citrus. The novelty of fresh fruit. The refreshing scent, the taste. The sweetness on his tongue.
“Clementine,” Sam gasps out without thinking, his mind stuck on things he missed and maybe this last trip had gone on longer than he liked.
He’s brought back to earth when the movement stops, even when he adjusts his grip, tries to get her going again, to move her hips the way he knows they both like. “Yeah. No shit.” And there she goes, lifting herself off of him as quickly as she had sunk onto him half an hour ago. Sam lets out a grunt. His ribs are bruised yet she flattens her hands on his chest to support herself. She’s doing it on purpose. She was careful before. “I didn’t think you’d be the type to do this, but I guess I was wrong.”
Sam’s cold without her, for more reasons than one, and he knows that if he doesn’t say something, anything, now, she’s going to be out that door before he can even finish saying Hail Mary. And no amount of prayer, to any sort of god out there, is going to bring her back.
So, Sam swallows down his pride, and says, “It’s you.”
“Yeah, I heard you say that before. ‘Just you.’ How can I-I be so stu-stupid?” Her voice wavers and shit she’s crying, isn’t she? He made her cry.
“And I mean that. Hey, come here.” Sam doesn’t want to hold her too tightly, afraid to hurt her, but he has to know that she isn’t going to leave, that she’s going to stay and listen to him. She turns to look at him, tears flowing down her cheeks, nose red, lips quivering, and Sam’s heart just about breaks. He did that. He’s never felt more like an asshole. “It is just you. It has been since the start. I promise.”
She doesn’t say anything. Just waits. And Sam feels like he’s back in school, standing in front of his class, giving a presentation.
“I, uh, did I ever tell you that I was in prison once?” Sam manages to get out. He always knew he was going to have this conversation with her, knew that with how their relationship was going, he couldn’t keep her in the dark much longer, but he had hoped that he would at least be wearing pants for this.
“No,” she breathes out, wiping her nose with a tissue she got from his bedside table. Huh. Was that tissue box always there? Anyway. “But I figured.”
“The tattoos?”
“No,” she says again and by some miracle there’s a smile on her lips. It’s small, gone with a blink of an eye, but Sam knows what he saw, has all of her smiles memorized. “Someone like you just has the talent of getting into trouble.”

“You must have been so lonely.” Is what she says, hands back on his gunshot wounds. She’s transfixed. Almost like she’s been wondering about them forever. And maybe she has. “I’m sorry that happened to you.”
“Eh. It’s all in the past,” Sam says with a shrug. Because it is in the past. He’s made his peace with it. Mostly. Some things are harder to shake off than others but he’s okay now. He’s built from strong stuff, a sturdy breed. “But, y’know. You’re, uh, killing me here.”

“Cuz I don’t know what you’re going to do,” Sam admits. It’s all truth from here on out, huh? “I can’t read you right now. Are you gonna leave? Punch me in the face? Report me? Chapter 20: Final: Till the Bitter End
Warnings: strong language, sexual themes, blood/gore, body horror, angst, violence, major character death, trauma
Summary: Juniper is delivered back to Heisenberg…

This is the end my lovelies…this end can fit into cannon, without plot holes for the game. Stay tuned for the family Au later in the week. Will start a whole new (happier) fic, picking up at the end of chapter 19

The hours bled into days, then the days bled into weeks. Heisenberg thrust himself into his work, trying and failing to keep his mind off of what happened.
He couldn’t sleep in the bed anymore, and slowly he even stopped entering the apartment outside the occasional shower or meal.
He carried her compass in his pocket, finding his thumb worried over its surface more times than he’d like to admit.
Feelings of anger and sadness plagued him constantly, filling even his sleep with nightmares. He replayed the day she was taken over and over in his mind, loathing every stupid decision he’d made. The radio and alcohol did little to drown out these thoughts.
Until one day the cameras alerted him to someone at the gates. Heisenberg pushed away from his desk, flipping a switch to see who had tripped his alarm.
It was the Duke’s cart. Heisenberg groaned, his order wasn’t due for another week out. He pressed a button to buzz him in. Walking towards the elevator to meet him.
By the time he was on the surface Duke had pulled his cart up much closer than usual, damn near at the front doors.
“Didn’t expect my shipment so fucking soon.” Heisenberg pointed out.
The Duke’s voice was less jovial than normal as he spoke, “My apologies, Lord Heisenberg, but I bring a different delivery to you today.”
Heisenberg’s brows knitted together in confusion.
“It’s Lady Heisenberg…but I must warn you she is most unwell.” His smile fell, “I found her on the steps of the stone church, and thought her place was much more suited here.”
It took his words a moment to register, Heisenberg’s eyes scanned over the merchant, his lips a thin line.
A mixture of relief, worry, and anger swirled around his head. He swallowed, his throat dry, “Can I see her?”
“Lord Heisenberg…she’s just hanging on.” The Duke warned.
“Let me see her.” Heisenberg’s voice rose, desperation tinged his tone.
The Duke nodded, the small door at the side of the cart slowly swung open. Heisenberg quickly came to the opening, peering inside.
It took a moment for his eyes to adjust to the darkness, the cart’s interior a menagerie of all matters of goods. In the center of it all, upon an owl rug, was a mass covered by a blanket.
Heisenberg crawled into the cart, a shaking hand reached out to pull the covering away.
There was Juniper, curled in on herself along the cart’s floor. Her skin was deathly pale, her side hardly rising with breath. Heisenberg tentatively touched her, skin cold under his fingers. He shuttered, dismay ripping through him.
The sound roused her.
Juniper blinked her eyes against the pale sunlight filtering in. Her eyes were dull, all the spark they once held, gone.
“Karl?” She asked, voice almost cracking.
“It’s me.” He came closer, cupping her face.
He saw a smile try to grace her lips, as her eyes closed weakly into his embrace, “I missed you.”
“I missed you too, Doll.” His eyes flicked down her body. She was thin, her skin covered in blotches of pooled blood below the surface. But the thing that almost turned his stomach was the deep incision from navel to pelvis. It was red and weeping, angry tendrils snaking through her skin from it.
“Fuck.” He cursed, “What did she do to you?”
Juniper winced, a weak hand delicately touching the stitching, “S-She said I was a failure…”
Heisenberg’s eyes stung and he gathered her up, careful to wrap her in the blanket to Shield her from the cold the best he could.
He could be angry later, he had to get Juniper safe first.
“I’m going to take you home, and fix you right up, ok Doll?” He tried to soothe, his voice wavering.
Heisenberg’s stomach clenched, seeing the redness of her abdomen slowly turning an ash grey.
She’ll be fine…she’ll be fine…she’ll be fine…
The words echoed in his head as he exited the cart. He gave a brief thanks to the Duke before retreating back into the factory.
He went straight to the apartment, pausing to ponder what to do next.
Hope waned as he felt her weaken in his grasp. He went to the bed, placing her down gently and making sure she had enough blankets.
“Thank…you.” Juniper gave a sigh, eyes closing. Heisenberg gulped, crawling into the bed beside her. He lay on his side, silently looking her over.
His heartbeat hammered in his chest, fear and worry spinning around his head.
He wanted to do something, anything, to help her. To make the pain go away. He wanted to see her bright and happy again, like a flower. His flower, his buttercup.
Juniper looked up at him the best she could, swallowing as she tried to find her voice. Her skin was slowly taking on an ashy hue, small cracks forming along her arms.
Heisenberg felt his chest clench in iron knots, touching her cheek.
“I’m sorry.” She rasped, her once bright eyes now milky, “I won’t be able…to see the world with you.”
“Don’t say that.” He choked, “Don’t fucking say that.”
Juniper’s breaths were shallow, her eyes unseeing.
“We’ll get out of here.” He almost pleaded.
He gently pulled her head closer until their forehead touched. Juniper closed her eyes into the contact. He could feel her life slipping away ever so slowly under his fingers.
She felt so frail, every breath ragged though her rib cage.
Heisenberg held her close, trying to choke back tears.
“I love you.” He whispered, words broken and wavering. Juniper’s delicate fingers covered his own. Her skin was cold as she smiled the best she could.
“I love you too.” She cooed, her voice sweet and like honey on his ears. He could feel her grasp wavering as he clenched his eyes shut.
He didn’t know how long he laid there. How long he held her, trying to memorize every detail of her form: her smell, her hair, every freckle on her sweet face.
Eventually, in the wake of exhaustion, sleep overtook him. It was fitful and quick. But as he blinked his eyes open all his fears came crashing into him like a speeding car.
The space in the bed beside him was covered in sparkling, iridescent crystal, and crumbling ash.
He sat up, eyes almost unseeing.
He could make out the outline of Juniper’s form, from her jaw to the sway or her hips, forever encased in beautiful stone. The place where her abdomen once was now was hollow with intricate swirling patterns.
He reached out a trembling hand, his fingertips touching the smooth surface of the crystal. The world seemed to slow, a distance ringing filling his ears.
A humming filled the room, all metal rose and began to swirl. It all picked up speed, becoming a cyclone. The metal desks and chairs buckled in on themselves, the walls shuttering.
He balled his hands into fists, bringing them up to cover his face.
A horrid sound joined the choir of destruction. Only when his throat ached did he realize it was his own voice, crying out the grief that ate his core.
The bed shook, the frame bending.
A sound met his ears, almost lost in the havoc. The cracking of stone, hollow like glass.
Everything stopped, metal falling to the floor as he looked forward. The bed frame had buckled enough to start to crack the crystal it held, stopping short only when the humming died.
He felt numb as he stood from the bed. Shattered glass and metal scattering the floor.
Days bled into weeks. He’s not sure how long he left the crystal untouched in the ruined bed. He rarely slept and even more rarely ate. Many family meetings were missed, calls going unanswered. Eventually he wrapped the crystal that was once Juniper in her coat; placing it somewhere safe, deep in the factory.
His grief and loss turned his hunger for freedom into an all consuming desire. His disdain for Mother Miranda forged into a dagger of loathing, cutting ribbons into his soul daily.
Distractions were no longer permitted. Every waking moment was dedicated to his obsession for revenge.
~Epilogue:
Heisenberg sat before the small tv monitor, smoke creating a haze around him. He watched the man on the other end of the screen with interest, a stranger in their village. A stranger with promise.
He bite the cigar between his teeth, pondering the opportunity presenting itself. His army was big, and time was running short. With this stranger’s help, freedom was within his grasp.
He sat back in his chair, reaching into his coat pocket. He pulled a small, ornate compass free. He turned it over on his gloved hand, it’s surface scratched and worn with time. His thumb brushed over the etching across the back, a word branded not only onto its metal but also on his mind.
His eyes narrowed, watching the screen. The man was breaching the stronghold, holding his own against the Lycans like no other before had.
He felt the word over again.
“We’ll see the world together, buttercup.” His tone was thick, “I promise.”

Gwynriel Headcanon : Demons
Writing this at midnight even though I have a maths exam tomorrow. Slight TW of maybe a mental disorder. Also I feel like we don't talk enough about Gwyn's trauma, cause in this I mentioned it, a lot. But fluff too.
Gwyn was mad. Gwyn was made and furious with Azriel. But most of all, she was sad. Not angry, just sad. Sad to be rejected once more. Sad to be just a person who was a 'side girl'. Upset with the fact that she didn't work hard enough to nurture their friendship.
Sad with the fact that she wasn't enough. She spent an hour crying in her room. Her heart felt like it had been broken into a million more pieces after finally being broken. Being rejected by your mate, hell the one person you loved the most, hurt like hell.
Why wasn't I enough? Why wasn't I enough? Could I have done something to prevent him leaving me? Why not me and her? What's the difference between us? And a sad and lonely voice in her answered, because no one can fall in love with you.
You have too much baggage, which no one wants to bear. You came into this world alone, you're going to live alone, and you're going to die alone. You are nothing, you are just an illusion. Your sisters don't love you, only the illusion you put up for them-
And Gwyn ran out of her room and down the 10000 stairs of the house leading to Velaris. Illusion. Illusion. Illusion. The word kept repeating itself in her mind.
Illusion of being the perfect girl. Illusion of being the girl next door. Illusion of being the sweet girl. Illusion. Illusion. ILLUSION! And the next thing she knew, was that the dark side of her mind took over.
It laughed. She heard the laugh in her mind. She knew it was taking over now. She continued down the steps of the house. Stop! Stop! Please, just please, please stop, she begged her thoughts. But it looked like her thoughts weren't hers anymore, they were demons.
Demons she thought that she had buried a long time ago. The voice laughed, and started, and that's when Gwyn knew, she was not in control anymore. She tried to prevent it from taking over her mind, yet she was too weak now. And then the horror began.
You think your sisters love you? They only love the girl who has no demons. They think you're perfect. You've not exactly told them what happened that night in Sangravah, what do you think will happen when you do?
They'll leave you, finally seeing the pathetic girl you are. Everyone will leave. Like your mate has. You know it's ironic that you let your sister die in front of you, that you chose someone else before your own blood sister-
but they were-were gonna kill the children, I- I didn't have a choice-, Gwyn tried speak but the voice was faster. Oh we both know that's not true Gwyneth. And anyways, karma's a bitch.
Azriel left you when you needed him the most, just like you left your sister to die when she needed you the most. You're a traitor, a half breed, a slut who couldn't save herself or her sister, you're nothing, you don't deserve anyone or anything-
And that voice stopped only when Gwyn opened the door and ventured into Velaris. It was raining. Endless tears were running from Gwyn's eyes, that voice had stopped, but it's effect, it was still there, rippling like water when a stone is thrown in it.
Suddenly breathing was tough. Gwyn kept walking, trying to breathe, trying to get a grip but it wasn't working, it wasn't working. Panic attack, Gwyn realized. No no no no no, not now please please no.
It felt like the world was suffocating her, that it was trying to drown her in endless darkness. She didn't even realize when she ran into Azriel's back and kept walking. "I- I'm sorry, " She said and tried to move away but then Azriel turned around.
No no no no, it couldn't be him it couldn't be him. He- he's gonna see her broken and run, he'd run and never come back, and she'd never be able to catch up to him. It again felt like the world was enveloping her, cause it was.
Please, please just stop STOP! She begged her mind, her heart, anyone that would listen. And she could've heard that evil voice in her head feel sad, before it said I'm sorry Gwyneth.
And then someone was shaking her. Azriel, she realized. Their voice started growing louder and louder and "GWYN, GWYN! ARE YOU OKAY? WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING AT 4AM IN THE MORNING HERE!" And suddenly it all came back to Gwyn, she was in Velaris, with her mate in front of her.
She then looked up to meet his gaze, gaze full of worry. Once she'd think that he actually cared, not now, not ever.
"I- I'm ok" She said and try to move but Azriel kept his grip firm on her forearm and forced her to meet his gaze. She could see his eyes worried, pitying her, she realized.
Gwyn tried to move again but Azriel held firm. She could hear the rain, could hear the little steps of everyone, could hear his racing heartbeat matching her own.
"Are you okay?" He asked, his voice now firm. Gwyn darkly chuckled, and said, "Oh of course I am. You refuse to give me my memories. My mate rejected the bond, and my demons love to take over without any invitation. Well why does that matter, how are you Azriel? Enjoying your life with Elain?
If yes, then please let me leave for I am too busy having a panic attack to engage in small chitchat." And sarcasm dripped like venom from her voice. She was mad, and she didn't give a damn now.
"Gwyn I- I didn't reject the bond" And Gwyn laughed again, and again said sarcastically, "Oh is that supposed to be a prize? Why thank you shadowsinger for not rejecting the bond. Would you like me to do that for you too?"
And the pain was seen clearly on Azriel's face, she knew he was shocked and upset by her words, good, he deserved it.
He let her go then, but Gwyn didn't leave. She was about to when Azriel said, "I lied" And Gwyn would have laughed this time too, if she had not seen the seriousness in his face. "Lied about what? Wanting to be my friend-", "I lied about me and Elain. She's happily living in the day court with her mate, Lucien."
Oh. Oh. "You knew she had a mate and yet you still tried to persue her?" And Azriel looked away when Gwyn said those words.
She then noticed a nearby bench, and sat on it. He knew what it felt like, to be rejected, she realized. And so she patted the space beside her, inviting him to sit.
He came towards her, but warningly. And when he sat down beside her, she put her elbows on her knees, bended a bit forward and looked at him. "So you know what it's like to be rejected." She said, as a statement not a question.
Azriel mirrored her position and said, "I do know what it's like to be rejected." And Gwyn wanted to smack his face for that. She contemplated saying the next line, but thought, fuck it, he's a liar and he hurt me and said, "So you rejected me knowing how painful it feels to be rejected?"
And Azriel shifted in his seat, and then said, "I didn't reject you because of you Gwyneth, I rejected you because of me. I- I-" And he didn't complete the sentence. But Gwyn understood, so she completed it for me, "You didn't think you deserved me."
And Azriel looked at her with an unrecognizable emotion in his eyed and said, "Yes, I don't think I deserve you." And Gwyn actually chuckled at that. And when she saw the confused expression on Azriel's face, she explained further, "Well you know it's ironic. Even I feel I don't deserve you-", "Oh" Was all Azriel said.
And after a few minutes, she said, "We're both complete dumbasses aren't we?" And Azriel chuckled, "I- I agree, we're both complete idiots."
And after a few moments of silence and simply looking at each other's grinning faces, Azriel said, "I'm sorry for ignoring you and rejecting you." Gwyn chuckled and replied, "It's okay, as long as you don't do it again."
And then suddenly out of the blue, Azriel asked with sudden seriousness, "Are you seeing someone?" And Gwyn smiled and asked, "What if I was?", "Well are you?" Azriel asked urgently and Gwyn laughed. "Okayyy calm down lover boy, I'm not" And she saw a deep pink blush creep up on his cheeks.
And just to play with him a little more, she started playing with his hair, and his blush deepened even more. "I love making you blush" Gwyn said she could've sworn his cheeks became even pinker. And then she removed her hand from his hair and said, "I'll make a deal with you. We don't ignore each other. We date each other and we live happily ever after."
And Azriel laughed at that. Gwyn then put out her hand, "Deal?" and Azriel raised an eyebrow, "Are you really the daring shadowsinger everyone calls you, or are you just a pussy?" Gwyn daringly asked, and Azriel said, "I am no pussy" And shook her hand, "Deal" And suddenly an invisible bind passed through them. They'd struck a bargain, and Gwyn laughed while Azriel cursed beautifully under his breath.
And then Azriel asked, "Wait What about our friendship?", "Oh please, we're barely friends. I totally look at your ass all the time and you look st mine. So I'm pretty sure our "friendship" Is pretty fucked up."
Azriel just smiled at her, his mate, his best friend. A person whom he loved dearly, and would do anything for. They then got up, hand in hand, and then took off for flight. They kept looking at each other, Gwyn because she was too competitive to back down from a challenge, and Azriel because he was mezmerized by her beauty.
And one day, Gwyn thought, she'd actually tell him, that she was not staring at him because of a competition, but because she knew she was genuinely falling in love with him.
Azriel walked Gwyn to her room in the House of Wind, and they'd just stood there, looking at each other. Until Gwyn spoke up and asked, "tomorrow 8pm?" And Azriel smiled and repeated it, confirming their first date, "tomorrow 8pm". He was just about to walk away when Gwyn threw her hands around his neck.
He didn't understand what she was doing until she started to move away, she was hugging him, he realized and immediately put his arms around her waist, his head in her hair, smelling it, he realized, and memorizing the scent.
And before moving away, she kissed him slightly on his cheeks and went in her room and closed her door. Gwyn leant against the inside of her door and sighed happily.
Azriel just stood in front of the door for an hour, replaying the scene over and over again. Replaying their night over and over again. He then walked back to his room, grinning like a little boy in love.
He would never wash that cheek again, for Gwyn had kissed him. Gods, that woman was going to be the death of him.

Yoongi x Reader

Author’s Note: This part is relatively shorter than the last few BUT it’s all for reasons and chapter 6 will be extra long to make up for it! Hope you guys enjoy it!

Once Yoongi allowed himself to become comfortable within the pack, it scared him just how easy it was for him to assimilate and truly feel comfortable there. 
Working at the hardware shop with Kibum was going great, and Yoongi had even managed to design and create his own furniture to fill his cabin up with. Yoongi had also started to slowly open up to the other members of the pack, spending more time with both Hobi and Jungkook especially since they were fellow Alphas. Taehyung was undeniably his closest friend though, and if Yoongi was being honest, he came to be extremely grateful for how the Beta had taken him under his wing and convinced him to stay. 
As for you, Yoongi honestly didn’t see you around much. Per Taehyung’s explanation, you were often busy as Pack Physician and never really had much free time. Although Yoongi didn’t miss arguing with you, he had to admit that he had gotten used to you always being around so the absence of your presence was noted. He didn’t admit that to Taehyung though, especially after Taehyung had teased him and asked “Why do you care where my sister is, hyung?”
One particular day, Yoongi was hanging out in his cabin, attempting to figure out what was the best way to arrange the living room area when there was a knock on his door. Walking over to it and pulling it open, he was surprised to see Hobi and Jungkook standing on the steps. 
“Hey hyung,” Hobi smiled. 
“Hi hyung,” Jungkook echoed. 
“Hey, what are you two doing here?” Yoongi wondered as he leaned against the door. 
“We came to ask you if you wanted to come hunting with us,” Jungkook said excitedly.
“If you aren’t busy,” Hobi added. 
“I’m free,” Yoongi nodded. “I don’t have a shift at the hardware shop today.”
“Well, let’s go,” Jungkook smiled. After quickly changing into some looser clothes, Yoongi locked up his cabin before following behind Hobi and Jungkook as they led the way into the forest that surrounded the pack’s territory. 
However, as soon as they made it deep enough into the forest where they couldn’t see the cluster of cabins and buildings anymore, all three of them froze in their places.
“You smell that?” Jungkook murmured. 
“It’s snakes,” Hobi answered. 
“Yeah, but there’s something else there,” Jungkook shook his head. The three of them continued to stand there, sniffing the air and all of a sudden, the realization hit Yoongi. 
“It’s fear,” he whispered. “Someone’s in trouble.”
“What? Who?” Jungkook tried to say but Yoongi had already ran off, sprinting towards the scent. The closer that he got to the scent, the sound of screaming got louder and louder and his eyes widened when he realized what was happening. 
There was a little boy in a small clearing, terror clear on his face as he laid on the ground. When Yoongi looked down, his breath caught in his throat when he saw a snake wrapped around the boy’s legs.
“Hey hey,” Yoongi spoke up and the boy’s head whipped around to look at him.
“Please, please help me!” The boy pleaded and Yoongi nodded his head.
“I am, but I need you to try and calm down,” Yoongi instructed him softly, slowly moving closer to them. “I know you’re scared, but it’s very important that you listen to me.”
“O-ok,” the boy nodded, willing his body to stay still even though Yoongi could see his limbs still shaking. 
“Holy shit,” Yoongi heard Hobi gasp but he kept moving, creeping in front of the boy so that the snake couldn’t see him. Waiting a few moments in order to make sure that the snake didn’t hear him, he leapt forward, grabbing ahold of the snake’s mouth and pulling it off of the boy’s legs. Yoongi then made quick work of killing the snake, letting it fall from his hands and onto the ground once he was done. 
“Are you ok, little one?” Jungkook asked the boy as he helped him up but the little boy didn’t answer him, instead choosing to run right over to Yoongi and clutch onto his pants leg as he sobbed harshly.
“Hey, it’s ok,” Yoongi whispered softly as he bent down and picked the boy up, settling him on his hip. “You’re alright now.”
“I-I d-d-didn’t mean to,” the boy sobbed and Yoongi just shushed him as he lightly bounced him in his arms. 
“I’m sure you didn’t, and it wasn’t your fault,” Yoongi assured him. “Can you tell me your name, little pup?”
“Ch-Chan,” the boy replied.
“Ok Chan, I’m Yoongi,” Yoongi introduced himself. “I’m gonna take you to the infirmary cabin so that we can get you checked out, ok?”
“Ok,” Chan nodded.
“We’ll go find his parents and let them know,” Hobi offered and Yoongi smiled gratefully before walking off towards the infirmary. 
......................
“Yoongi?” You called as you walked into the examination where Yoongi and Chan had been waiting. “The receptionist told me that you brought a pup in.”
“Yeah. Jungkook, Hobi, and I were out about to hunt and we found this little one with a snake wrapped around his legs,” Yoongi explained, making your eyes widened.
“Are you serious?” You gasped, quickly walking over to the pup and bending down, immediately looking over his legs and checking for injuries. 
“I think I managed to get to him before any real damage could be done, but I thought I’d bring him here so that you could check for sure,” Yoongi said and you nodded your head.
“Good call,” you murmured. “Well, it doesn’t look like the snake was able to bite him so there shouldn’t be any venom in him. It must’ve been super scary though, huh?”
“Really scary,” Chan agreed softly, making you coo at him.
“It’s ok Chan, you’re safe now,” you reminded him, taking ahold of one of his hands and lightly rubbing the inside of his wrist where his scent gland was. Your scent of white peaches and oranges began to fill the air, and Yoongi couldn’t help but to notice how...relaxing it was. It was almost like being in a warm room, while also being soothing at the same time. 
“Mr. Yoongi was like a superhero,” Chan told you as you continued to scent him. 
“Yeah?” You smiled softly as you looked up at Chan. “I guess it was a good thing that Yoongi was there then, huh?”
Just then, the door to the examination room burst open and a man and a woman rushed inside.
“Oh my gosh, Chan,” a woman sighed heavily, sprinting over and scooping Chan up into her arms. 
“Is he ok, Y/N-ah?” The man asked as he turned to face you.
“From the looks of it, yes,” you answered. “I think he’s just more shaken up than anything else.”
“Channie, didn’t we tell you about going out into the forest by yourself?” The woman lightly scolded him and Yoongi could tell by her scent that she was an Alpha. 
“I just wanted to pick some flowers to give to Teacher Jimin,” Chan pouted.
“We know buddy, but you have to tell someone where you’re going,” the man added, his calming scent letting Yoongi know that he was an Omega. “What if Yoongi-ssi, Jungkook-ssi, and Hoseok-ssi hadn’t found you? We wouldn’t have known what happened to you.”
“I’m sorry,” Chan apologized and the woman just sighed before hugging him tighter to her chest.
“Thank you so much for saving our son Yoongi-ssi,” the man said as he turned to look at Yoongi.  “I don’t even wanna think about what might’ve happened if you hadn’t found him.”
“It’s really no problem,” Yoongi shrugged. 
“I’m Kyung and this is my mate and Chan’s mother, Soo Jung,” Kyung told him. 
“Nice to meet you,” Yoongi nodded.
“Well, even though I’m sure he’s fine, I still want to do some tests on him just to make sure,” you interjected, and both Kyung and Soo Jung nodded in agreement. 
“I’ll leave you guys to it,” Yoongi said before looking down at Chan. “You’ll be a little bit more careful from now on, right pup?”
“Right! Chan chirped, making Yoongi smile.
“Good. I’ll see you guys around.”
“Thank you again Yoongi-ssi,” Soo Jung spoke up.
“No need,” Yoongi waved his hand dismissively before turning around and opening the door, stepping out and shutting the door behind him. Just as he made it down the hall and was about to step out of the front door, he heard you calling his name.
“Yoongi!” You called out, rushing down the hall towards him.
“Yeah?” He wondered as he turned to look at you.
“I just wanted to tell you that it was really cool of you to help Chan,” you told him. 
“It wasn’t an issue Y/N,” he chuckled.
“But still, you’re new to the pack and you’re not necessarily bound by the obligation of having to take care of packmates like we are,” you said. 
“Well, I kind of am, since I decided to stay,” Yoongi pointed out. “Besides, he’s just a pup who didn’t know any better.”
“Well let me tell you, this isn’t the first time that Chan has ended up in the infirmary because he’s just too curious for his own good,” you giggled. 
“That probably explains why you were so good at dealing with him, huh?” Yoongi guessed and you shrugged your shoulders.
“It’s a part of my job,” you replied. “Especially living in an area surrounded by woods, you tend to treat a lot of pups for small injuries. I have to say though, the snake thing was a first.”
“I bet,” Yoongi chuckled. An awkward silence fell over the two of you again, the both of you just looking at each other for a few seconds.
“Well, I better get back to Chan,” you said. “Poor Soo Jung is probably going crazy out of her mind by now.”
“Yeah, sure. See you around,” Yoongi said.
“See you,” you nodded before turning around and walking back down the hall. Yoongi then pushed open the door to the infirmary and stepped outside, the lingering scent of white peaches and oranges wrapping around him like a warm hug.
