I got through a few more episodes of Supernatural season 1, some new thoughts:

Dean's annoying me less. Now I just feel sad for him too.

It's sad that Sam was already worrying about how Dean would see him (having psychic powers), like he's crazy or something, and then in later season Dean kind of always sees him like that? Very sad.

While I think John could have been a WAY better father than he was, I think it's a bit much when fanfics say he never loved Sam, or abused him (in the traditional sense, anyhow lmao). He's still an ass though, total tool, maybe if he knew how to communicate better his sons' wouldn't be so mentally dysfunctional.

Dean looks a LOT like his father.

It's very clear how much Dean has raised Sam his entire life. He really does treat Sam more like a son, than a kid brother, which is probably where lots of conflicts arise between the two to begin with.

I hope Dean doesn't anywhere in the future use Meg as an example of people Sam has made poor judgment calls on. If anything, it was Dean who made the poor judgment call, and constantly told Sam to sleep with her. Like... Sam knew she was suspicious from his second meeting with her. And his first meeting was ONLY when she took advantage of his insecurities.

As with most media, and especially 2000s media, Meg sexually assaulting Sam is treated ridiculously lightly. Like, they don't need to focus a whole episode or even scene or anything, but I really wish they would at least imply that Meg is wrongful and a creep. If this happened to a woman, it wouldn't even be a question. Instead I get hints of victim blaming when Dean tells them to get a room. (Like, they were both hoping it would serve well as a distraction, but jesus christ man)

I know for a fact that Alex Garfin must be talking about Connor because he's not talking about Jon - Jon Kent on the show already has the Jon Kent haircut so why would he think Jordan would get that??? That seems dumb... he's an original character who doesn't have a comic counterpart

I am kinda obsessed with how normal looking body Nick has in the scene where Zahra finds them and they get up from the bed. Big and muscled arms but soft stomach, a little chub in the V of his waist but strong thighs. Amazing. Spectacular.

it's extremely critical that you see the photo of the perp walk for luigi mangione as being propaganda. i've seen so many people wave it off and instead fawn over his looks. and trust me, i know it ended up being kind of pathetic and weird - but please don't brush it off as a "modelling opportunity" for him. it's a fucking terrifying message the police are sending.

i want to make a few comparisons here, in case you're not from the US or familiar with why the perp walk thing is something to pay attention to. just to set the groundwork for why this is a purposeful, unusual, and cruel act by the nyc police - for why this is not a common occurrence and for why that matters.

the prosecution alleges the show of force is due to the charge of "terrorism." for comparison, in june 2015, tsarnaev was found guilty for the boston marathon bombing, which killed 3 people and injured hundreds. his actions are considered to be an act of domestic terrorism. i have spent the last hour looking through google for pictures of similar to mangione's perp walk - and so far, i have found zero. i also just do not personally remember a moment like that, despite living in boston at the time.

they allege that luigi is a stone-cold killer who carried out a longterm plan, making him particularly dangerous. again for comparison: in nyc, recently cory martin was found guilty of the killing of brandy odom. the murder was planned and premeditated to steal insurance money. and yet no staged perp walk. why didn't her life matter enough for a "show of force"?

but mangione gets paraded by a veritable army of police officers as if he is a rabid animal. for a single citizen who allegedly killed one other single citizen, the "largest perp walk ever" occurs.

so what is the "strong message" that the mayor and the police were trying to send here? the mayor speaks as if mangione is already convicted of terrorism. there is a very thin number of people who feel threatened by the CEO's death. none of us felt like mangione needs to be under massive armed guard.

the message is that you shouldn't resist. they are trying to "make an example" of him - that if you behave badly and kill a single rich person, you'll be treated as if you killed hundreds of people. you will be treated worse than a man who was found guilty of terrorism. you will be considered guilty without trial. the message is that the rich are a protected class, and you cannot touch them without massive punishment. they are trying to prevent a revolution by showing dominance and force against you.

the message is that the police are a puppet of the wealthy and that the law is not equally applied across class disparity. it is "some are more equal than others." it is "one life is more precious than another."

the show of force wasn't for luigi. it was for us. it was a warning. they are trying to remind us who is really in control.

Fun story. When I was actively being stalked (both online and IRL), I contacted the police exactly one time. I showed them the physical notes that had been left under the wiper blade on my car after I blocked the man on social media. I showed them the previous Facebook messages this man had sent me that described, in detail, what he wanted to do to me.

The police said they couldn’t help me because the man had not actually physically done any of those things to me. He’d just talked about his desires. They even made excuses for him. He’s awkward. He’s lonely. You’re pretty. It’s a compliment.

So friendly reminder that when a man with a record and weapons makes verbal/written threats against a woman, there’s nothing police can do.

But when a frustrated woman being denied medical coverage with no record and no weapons makes a “verbal threat” against a corporation, she’s arrested immediately.
