sometimes i almost wish i was interested in more mainstream things so i could spectate insane fandom discourse like a gossipy neighbor watching a couple fight with little binoculars by her windowsill. like i hate participating in the thing myself but i love reading about the drama of it all, y'know

Thoughts on the Grian Rescue Squad's preferred pajamas?
(Or something equally light-hearted and silly? there is Drama in Youtube comments that I really should be trying to avoid instead of arguing with people but it's hard when trolls are pretending to be white knights and ... yeah. Light-hearted/silly headcanons about the Rescue Squad would be good. XD)
A few silly pajama headcanons for you coming right up!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
First of all im gonna be so fr here i think Scar sleeps in a victorian-era nightshirt. Cap and all. Like one of these things:
Tumblr media
but a bit more colourful and stylish 😂😂😂😂 the nightcap is why his hair always looks a little silly first thing in the morning
Mumbo, i think, tends to sleep in longjohns-- big fan of the image of him dressed from head to toe in plaid tbh, or a silly pattern like hearts or clouds or sheep. I think his pajamas are full of whimsy<3
Xisuma has currently been sleeping in his armor with the helmet on not necessarily bc thats his norm but bc hes so tired he just keeps conking out where he is before he can changed 😭😭😭😭 when he does properly climb into bed though i think hes more of a simple boxers guy
Tango i think tends to wear a flowy robe that looks INCREDIBLY expensive and a little scarily like his dungeon master robes (theyre actually the same thing he was literally in his pajamas 24/7 in that hole) but underneath those he strikes me as a boxers guy too, just with a different taste in patterns
Pearl sleeps fully in the nude and thats the entire reason why theres a curtain separating her bed from the rest of the Rescue Squads' 🫡🫡🫡👍👍👍

Adding Vanity Fair to the list of classic literature that I have avoided for far too long, because everyone talked about the serious parts and neglected to mention that it was hilarious.
Why was everyone telling me about Becky Sharpe, the scandalous and shocking anti-heroine (yuck), and never once mentioning the narrator who goes off on wonderfully absurd meta-tangents about the novel's structure and characters? It would be like talking about Wodehouse as if it were all from the POV of one of the scheming antagonists and failing to mention the wide cast of absurd characters and the quirky narration. Why does this kind of thing always happen with British literature specifically? Please let me know when books are funny, I'm begging you.

This kinda fits Desmonds mom in some way. Thoughts?
Here’s the embed video version for those who don’t wanna copy and paste the link:
youtube
I’m just imagining her hearing for the first time that her son, the son she hadn’t seen for nine years, could not even seen or talk to for one last time for the sake of both of their safety, was now dead.
Sacrificing his life to save the world.
Savior?
Messiah?
What used were those moniker to her dead son.
She wouldn’t be able to see him ever again.
She wouldn’t be able to touch his cheeks and take a good look of the man he had become in person.
She wouldn’t be able to smile and say “You’ve grown so much.”
She wouldn’t be able to ask…
“Were you happy these past years?”
“Was letting you go to be free worth the pain of not being by your side for nine long years?”
“It should have been you.”
She felt him freeze, the hands on her shoulders trembling ever so slightly.
“You should have died instead of our son!” She screamed as tears fell from her eyes.
He opened his mouth, most likely to call her name but stopped, letting out a gasp as her hands curled around his throat, squeezing him with the strength of an Assassin that have been in the field since she had been a teenager.
“You share the same blood as him! You’re a descendant of that cursed Auditore-Kenway line these beings haunt!” She shouted.
She could break his neck.
Snap it.
She’d done it before.
She’d kill so many people in the name of the Brotherhood before.
She was raised to be an Assassin.
She could just as easily-
She let out a frustrated scream as she threw him away, covering her eyes as bitter tears fell from her eyes.
He called out her name, his voice hoarse.
Was he grieving as well?
Did he loved their child as much as she did?
Who knows?
Who cares.
“Get out.” She lowered her hands as she ordered, the decades of forcing her emotions to shut down coming to the forefront, “Don’t ever show your face to me again, William Miles.”
Her expression turned to one of frigid nothingness.
It reminded William Miles of a recording of a memory of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.
The face the legendary mentor had made when his desire to kill the man who killed his youngest son triumphed over his desire for peace and truth.
“The next time I see you, I will claw open your chest and rip your heart out.” She promised in an emotionless tone.
She watched him leave.
The man she loved and loathed in equal measure.
It should have been him.
No.
It should have been them.
They should have been the one to die in their son’s place.
They both failed him as parents.
And now…
All she had left was a Brotherhood barely afloat and the useless legacy of her blood.
After all…
Those who have the blood of the Ibn-La'Ahad were meant to lose their beloved child.

i think AI can be hugely helpful in certain fields (like, for instance, scientific discovery) when it's done right, but we (scientists) have a moral obligation to make sure our AI-based tools are actually doing what they're supposed to do, but if all else fails we can just gleefully watch one of our professors evicerate the latest AI-based tool on twitter until the programmers get their shit together and fix it

finished reading "tell me I'm worthless," which was an interesting experience. I think there's something really good for you in your soul to be able to understand the genre conventions you're in and the kinds of structures and language and character that can be explored in these genres. I think about how people tend to -- with fiction about marginalisation and/or about people who are marginalised as a blanket whole, regardless of the story -- operate on a checklist of dos and donts, but mainly donts: don't ever tell us a deadname, don't ever use these "problematic" words to describe them/or have them describe themselves in this way, don't ever describe negative emotions or "problematic" emotions, don't let the characters have harmful traits (either towards themselves or others), don't hurt your characters at all actually, don't make your characters politically uncomfortable or "problematically" complicated in their political outlook and/or journey, don't make your characters be assholes ever, certainly don't traumatise your characters, and under no circumstance do you kill your characters!
which of course, this book does praaaactically every one of these things, thank goodness

i'll take a moment to thank, from the bottom of the heart, all the friends and the people i don't even follow for leaving tags on my art. special shoutouts to those who share thoughts about it and compliment my designs. you have no idea how much that means to me
#if you've followed me for a while. i say this frequently. but because i need people to remember#i know people who reblogged my latest art for the poseidon design don't follow me#but some comments i read on it brought me joy. people who say my designs are great. who see things i myself didn't even consider#they get a special thanks. it's stupid. once my internship starts. if it does anyway. if all goes decently. i'll stop having time for mysel#i'll stop having time for art. because i'll have to follow the house and family drama bullshit while also working pretty much#which is something i've never done. working i mean. so i'm scared#but i'm even more scared as stupid as it sounds. that i'll stop being creative. and that i'll stop drawing altogether#it's a thought that has brought me to tears multiple times lately. i know it might not be the case. but i know that life will require me to#step away from art and fully embrace what i studied instead. against my real will but that's details#anyway. i digress. the post is and will stay about being grateful for the people sparing good and kind words on my art#i treasure all of them. january was a burst of inspiration because my head knows i won't be able to be this way and have this time anymore#and it's been shooting me down a lot. but these tags remind me that at least for the time i've been here#for the time i've given art and taking my chances sharing it here. the words prove me it was all worth it#so i'm grateful. to all the people who have supported me and spared nice words. mutuals followers and nonfollowers alike#i don't think people realize how much their words meant to me. so i like to remind people#even if this reaches nobody and even if it's just me talking to myself at 1 am for my timezone anyway

hot take apparently but to me it’s tiring and boring and frankly a baffling way to approach tv or any other media to engage with fictional characters only to ‘judge’ them. like you can’t just let them make whatever mistakes they’re making or be as flawed and fucked up as they want without judging if they have behaved well enough for whatever standard you hold them up to and how they should correct their behaviour moving forward. are you watching a fictional show or filling up an employee evaluation sheet???
‘this character should have done this’ ‘that character should not have done that’ okay???? who cares. it would be supremely boring, not to mention unrealistic, if fictional characters only behaved in the most adequate perfectly reasonable way possible. so they fucked up? so they fucked up again and again and didn’t learn their lesson the first time? okay??? that’s life???
‘but we didn’t see this character learn from their mistakes and grow’. you ARE seeing it, it’s a process, not something that happens after ONE time they were confronted with their mistakes, especially if said mistakes are tied to one of their cardinal flaws rooted in the very essence of the character itself. it’s so much more interesting and rewarding to me as a viewer, not to mention easier for me to get attached to characters who are complete and utter messes, characters who stumble and fall, even when they should know better, characters who don’t immediately learn from their mistakes, who fail again and again, but keep trying to be better, and still through it all, they are loved, because they are deserving of it no matter what they think.
‘but this conversation should have happened sooner’ okay well it didn’t. people make dumb choices all the time, they act irresponsibly and unreasonably all the time, no matter how mature or level-headed they might be.
‘but this relationship doesn’t feel healthy’ okay here’s the thing: ‘healthy relationship’ has become just another buzzword that tiktok users throw around without understanding at all what it means. ‘healthy relationship’ doesn’t mean two people need to be on the same page about everything, it doesn’t mean mistakes are made once, dealt with and never made again; a healthy relationship isn’t based on 100% compatibility or perfect communication at all times and perfect solutions to every problem. it’s based on mutual respect and love and the willingness to make compromises, and to keep trying to understand each other better and choose each other every day. if there is a failure of communication or a disagreement or an inability to come to a perfect soultion for whatever issue, that in itself doesn’t make a relationship unhealthy. and honestly even if it did, so what? it’s fictional, it adds flavour! (not to mention expecting humans to always be perfectly emotionally healthy is... well not realistic, to say the least).
‘but they should learn to communicate better before they get married’ marriage isn’t some kind of prize that only perfectly functional couples are worthy of, some final achievement for the perfect relationship. relationships are changing and growing all the time, they don’t have to reach a perfect final level of ‘healthy’ before they can be awarded the prize of marriage. relationships keep evolving and couples keep learning more about each other all the time, during marriage just like before. the idea that a relationship is doomed unless it reaches its final form of perfection before marriage is crazy.
and on a final note, HOW do you watch a fictional couple that disagrees on having children work out not necessarily a final solution, but a compromise, with one of them admitting they have issues to deal with and trauma to process, and the other realizing that the kids issue is not a dealbreaker because ultimately what they want most is their partner, and come away thinking ‘well that’s not a very good relationship’?????

Also its a little disturbing to see certain platform's algorithms literally reward outrage and bad takes that people have started to post things to make people mad on purpose just for the sole intent of getting more people to look at them
What's worse is that it works AND they get more followers out of it, it doesn't matter if you and all your friends all QRT them to dunk with your own personal soapbox, they're gaming the system! They punked you! They just gained 200 more followers by posting a rancid take and baiting people to boosting their platform bc others wanted to take a chance at tomatoing them
On reddit they at least have a "bait used to be believable" sentiment, but it's honestly concerning how often twitter and tiktok fall for this that people do this as an actual marketing strategy

I've kinda seen some pushback to the idea of representation in media and I don't necessarily think it's bad to point out actual rights are more important than Disney's thousandth first gay character that's fine, but I've had a LOT of people comment on my works about asexual characters and tell me what I wrote changed their life-and it's always that phrase- because they now have the language to describe what they feel. I've had people who ARENT ace or aro comment that what I wrote finally made a concept they didn't understand make sense, or that the way I explained things was interesting and enlightening and I'm kind of a mediocre writer who hasn't written anything in ages.
Like idk, if reading something from a writer who is fucking around and only somewhat talented can genuinely impact someone because they've not seen anything like them reflected back at them in life or media I don't think pushing for representation in media is as "needless" as some people seem to think and caring about that doesn't mean you don't care about more "important" (although if you think seeing people like you in media ISNT important it's because you already have that representation or are privileged enough to not care if you do, in which case maybe pipe down) stuff. Hell, I even got a Facebook message ages ago from someone who found a comment I left in an ace group about QPR's and what they meant to me and how I perceived them and the person no joke said what I wrote two years before they even found it changed their life forever because they finally knew what kind of relationship they actually wanted.
So like sure, of course there's always bigger fish to fry them diversity in media (you know, like diversity in real life lol) but I don't think it's as frivolous as some people are beginning to act like it is. At least not if you're an aspec person it's not, I STILL don't see ace characters almost ever and I'll bet my whole everything if I asked a writer of a show why they'd tell me that EVERYONE has to be in a sexual relationship and characters that aren't won't sell and are boring- I say this because in film school I had a teacher TELL ME every character needed to basically be sex obsessed and when I pointed out a GREAT MANY CHARACTERS are not revolved around sex (Supernatural stars two brothers, I pointed out) and when she asked if I had love interests I was like ??? That doesn't matter- using my aforementioned supernatural example almost all their love interests die or get mind wiped because at the end of the day that's not what the story was about. So actually I think writers who act like that teacher need like 50 reality checks, and representation in stories isn't unimportant and also support indie writers you'll probably find more funky shit there then Disney anyway lmao.
And also even the asexual characters I DO see in media don't remind me at all of myself even if I appreciate the effort, but they never feel real or genuine and their sexuality doesn't get a lot of exploration so 🤷🏻‍♀️ I actually could use more media focused on characters that I can genuinely see my sexuality reflected in in a meaningful and narratively impactful way because I've got nothing.
#winters ramblings#todd from bojack horseman im sure is SOMEONES version of asexuality but i dont see ANYTHING of myself in him#great character dont get me wrong but not relatable to me on any level including our shared sexuality#sex ed got a bit closer with their brief ace character although maybe she got more exploration in season three or four??#the latest one i havent watched lmao. but being closer and having a moment wjere shes told shes not broken#while DEEPLY vindicating isnt necessarily all im looking for either#like i wamt a REAL character thats ace or aro or both thats written by people who UNDERSTAND what theyre writting#not just well meaning people who dont know what theyre doing its kind of tiring#also idk why theres no dating shows with gay men because reality dating shows are ALL ABOUT who fucks who and who gets together#gay men would be hooking up ALL OVER THE PLACE and the DRAMA youd think reality tv freaks would be SALIVATING#but no none of that lmao. just ru pauls drag race and thats great it is like its not my bag but people love it#back on yrack though the weord blowback representation is getting is strange and its VERY clear to me#the people writing those posts havent gotten dozens on dozens of messages from people like them who found their writing#and haf their life altered forever for the better because someone who KNOWS what theyre talking about wrote a character like them#and it opened doors they never knew existed. doesnt even need to happen with fiction either i had a friend i had in toronto#tell me the info i sent to her on being aromantic changed her life- THAT'S the phrase i keep getting thats TELLING- because it describefld#described** how shes felt her whole life but didnt have words for. how frivolous IS representation if im getting these messages?#not very i dont think if some rsndom indie fic writer who hadnt written anything substantial in years can change someones life#REPEATEDLY might i add. ive been getting a LOT of messages like this lately and seeing this new bramd of discourse latetly too#like maybe YALL have enough that you dont care anymore but speak for your fucking selves
