OH MY GOD. WE'RE HERE. FINALLY. THE THRODIA POST. This is my only rlly worldbuilt area in Arphene rn so thought might as well talk about it + literally most of my OCs come from here and their lore also ties in a little with Throdia's worldbuilding soo without futher ado...

Background Info

Demonym: Throdian/Throdiana

Throdia is well - known mainly for being rich in ores and mining resources; the country takes pride in that, knowing it's jewels are unlike any other in the world. Due to this prioritisation of riches, however, especially among higher class Throdians, it has earned the country the nickname of "The Kingdom of Fools".

History

Has heavily to do with The Burning and it houses the Tomb of Alexandria. For the full story, link below! (Don't forget to use code ASTRUNARIA for 50% discount)

The current King of Throdia is Astrophel the 3rd (29th ruler of Throdia). Queen Bedelia has already passed however, due to heavy bleeding after having given birth to the youngest princess.

Cornerstone Committee

Due to how the mining industry is the biggest one in Throdia, the economy is also rather defined around it, and so, Dacian the 2nd (7th ruler of Throdia) founded the Cornerstone Committee, a group of Throdia’s most notorious nobles heavily involved in this industry. The Cornerstone Committee, as suggested, mainly handles the economic affairs of Throdia, in association with the royal family.

The five current families that are members are:

The Antonescu Family: A new name that’s recently taken the old position of the Chavanne family, having quickly made a name for itself in the past few years.

The Gosselin Family: Another one of the more recent families that joined the Cornerstone Committee, having only been prominent for about 3 generations.

The Fontana Family

The Marini Family: The family that’s stuck around since the very start of the committee, that’s also the wealthiest family in Throdia. Their business tactics, that’ve been developed for centuries, are rather sought after by their enemies… but those tactics remain as mysterious as the family itself.

Dog i watched this analysis over cloud strife's mental illness and perception and lowkey it got me thinking about naz

Like

i know at first glance he's perceived like this edgy emo aloof mf type, but like He's really not he's just extremely socially awkward and even a little stunted

And it relates back to the video in the sense that cloud has this false persona that he takes up to make himself seem stronger and as a coping mechanism And ngl that reminds me of naz too because in the stasis arc he has to toughen up and ascend past mortality so he can unstigmatize stasis, even if he didn't want to

So like Cloud pretends to be a genetically modified state of the art SOLDIER and Naz pretends to be a natural deity and it becomes a coping mechanism for both of them, to the point where they lose their sense of self

And both have ptsd, that presents itself in really similar ways

reverts to masking if perceived to be in harm

and then like both of them have to work to be able to let their facades fall down and both of them are kind of a deconstruction of the "cool strong aloof protagonist" because while they can be strong and they can be aloof, in the end they're both country boys who grew up with mental illnesses and never recovered while gaining more trauma and mental illnesses

And also like they have to work to even trust people that deem themselves as their friends because their sense of trust is so damaged that it's hard to take people like that at face value

Add in the fact that Naz can't save myn no matter what he does and Cloud can't save aerith no matter what he does, and we have ourselves another parallel

also the fact that in advent children/ in Naz’s canon,

cloud struggles with geostigmatism, which i tend to perceive as a chronic pain problem.

Naz also has a sort of chronic pain problem, in the form of stasis chains, as well as tremors.

The way they both deal with these issues is similar too, with cloud isolating himself from his family, and Naz isolating himself from everyone else. They both don’t feel worthy enough to rely on anyone else for help with their struggle, as some people with mental illness are known to do, myself included. Moving away from this and back to my other point about masking, they are shown to occasionally let their own personality shown through the cracks of their mask and it’s entirely different then the one they’ve built up.

for instance; cloud is a little dorky and sarcastic, and honestly seems a little shy at times.

meanwhile naz is more playful and gentle, extremely caring and affectionate when in a space where he can’t keep up the mask.

idk they just. Remind me so much of eachother.

First - ok, do the Ljosalfar also exist in the world of this story? (then again, are the Ljosalfar even a distinction from the Dokkalfar that existed pre-Christian influence? I dunno, the mythology is fairly incomplete as it stands, and none of this has anythign to do with the story so why am I spending so much time on this anyway?) Second, why does getting hit on the head give Jo the Second Sight? Or did she always have the capacity for it, and the hit just catalyzed it? REGARDLESS, as none of that has anythign to do with the actual control part of the story, moving on. It's a good story. Very fantasy, but I grew up LOVING mythology, so even though I'm a little rusty on it, seeing something drawing on myth is lovely. And the idea of control that most folk dont' notice, and that even though she *does* notice it Jo can't resist? It works within the context of the story. The actual control we see is fairly pedestrian by EMCSA standards, but the worldbuilding done around it means I like this story much more than I might have otherwise. 8/10 spirals

Huh, from the title I was expecting this to be a Girls(tm) story, not a superhero story, and not such a tragic one at that. Oh, it has its moments of heat, during the transformation that takes place, but the end of it is just tragic. To be forced to continue loving someone who's dead, unable to truly mourn, No matter how much heat is in the rest of the story, I can't find it hot on the whole with that layer of tragedy underlying it. it's a GOOD story, just ... another one that isn't really erotica to me. 5/10 spirals

... There is no IRB in the country that would approve this story, so this isn't just self-funded, but there can't be any meaningful oversight either. Also, her work needs more footnotes. Also, she clearly needs to review what we've learned from the Stanford Prison experiment; any time a researcher directly involves themselves in the experiment, as she did, it skews objectivity, and makes it less generalizable. We also ought to be presented with the method of recruitment; the nature of the recruitment can bias who is likely to apply. Further, any experiment of this sort should have included a boiler plate "you may revoke consent at any time" clause. Which clearly X was not provided. Putting the design/framing of the story aside, this is ... well, clearly it bothers me a little bit, given my science background, in the ways that it betrays the doctor's intentions with it. Which makes sense in context, but I get distracted considering how I'd improve the experiment. And it's a solid experiment for the goal of "how can I make girls want to have sex with me," rather than "how can I test response to authority?" - they *are* two different questions. The external view of the shifting mindset is less to my taste, and X's clear distress makes this less hot than it would be otherwise. 5/10 spirals

This one is a lot more magic than my preference, though the sudden internal changes are fascinating and add some heat for me. And Merrion acknowledging that he's being unethical actually makes me feel better, in some ways? I at least have more hope that he'll treat Paula right after this. And she clearly is getting something out of it, too, which helps. But it does come down to just being too magic for my tastes - though if you like magical artifacts driving the control, give this one a look. 6/10 spirals

I never quite understand how pleasure is that overwhelming for folk. It can be fun to play with, sure, but to make me completely let go around someone who puts me on edge? I don't get it and never will. Especially given the context of their interaction here. Maybe I'm just too ace to ever truly grok it, though. But the way she uses the sensation to take control, to build an effective overload induction as she does? It's well done and well written, if a bit cold for my personal preferences.  7/10 spirals

Another induction, and one that would be *really* good for folk who have trouble staying completely focused on a hypnotist, if it were a recording rather than a text induction, as it was clearly written to be read aloud.  The way it uses the idea of focusing on something other than the hypnotist, and letting their voice (and I want to say her, because I'm hearing Lady Ru'etha's voice reading it in my head, for all it's Jukebox's words) just slip past the conscious awareness. It does, of course, include arousal and orgasm suggestions, so be aware of that if you're susceptible to text inductions, but I also recommend hypnotists read this one and take some inspiration for if playing with folk who are easily distracted when trancing. 9/10 spirals

Mike Hostage Theory (Rewritten)

I went back recently and realized my original theory was very based on narrative evidence and concepts, so I wanted to make a refined post that included evidence from the show as well as more effectively explaining the narrative evidence I gave originally.

So, for starters, I want to show the fact that Henry has been watching Mike specifically.

@strangersynth has some fantastic videos highlighting the cinematographic choices that show him being watched!

The thing that really hammers this idea home is the timing of the Chrissy’s death and Mike leaving for California. That was no coincidence. If we consider the fact that Mike has impeded every single attack that’s happened in the show, Henry has to be aware that Mike is an issue. Even if he wasn’t directly involved in the MF’s attacks, the memories of the MF would have been given to Henry just like they were given to Will because he’s a part of the hivemind.

Henry is well aware of the likely consequences that come with attacking while Mike is around. I talk about Mike’s impact on the supernatural storyline here, but Henry generally has a lot of motivation for waiting until Mike leaves to attack.

How does this play into Mike being held hostage? Well, since we know that Henry specifically doesn’t want Mike around to prevent his interference, we don’t have any reason to believe that has gone away. Mike managed to worm his way back into trying to stop Henry even though he was halfway across the country and spent most of the season in the back of a pizza van. Now that he’s in Hawkins and can be more directly involved, he will become a problem again. Henry can’t have that happen. He needs to be able to achieve his goals now that he’s finally made progress and opened the gates. He can’t afford the risk of having Mike around.

Given the fact that he’s watched Mike before, and that Mike is likely to isolate himself again as a result of Eddie’s death, he’ll probably be watching him again and waiting for another opportunity to get him out of the picture. All he needs to do is wait for Mike to be alone, which is a situation I’m betting will be occurring in S5.

Henry watching Mike, waiting for him to leave, is hinting towards Henry removing Mike from the situation again.

DND Games

Moving onto the DND games, I want to emphasize that they are our most reliable source of information in the show. DND consistently predicts future events without fault, so taking information from the games is vital in understanding potentials for S5. With that in mind, let’s talk about the Hellfire game.

In the game played at the end of 4x01, something I find to be a huge sign of Mike having a fake death is this moment:

Mike’s role leads to him supposedly dying, but the character Eddie knocks over instead is the wizard he’s facing.

That could be interpreted in many ways, but what kills him is his dice roll failing. We never actually see what number Mike rolls.

I wouldn’t question it as much if he didn’t use the red-on-black dice. The other Hellfire members roll with the black-on-red dice, except for Dustin and Erica. They also roll with the red-on-black dice, and that’s important because when their rolls get focused in on in the same way Mike’s is here, the numbers they land on are important; 11 and 20.

I’m sure you guys are familiar with it, but just for recaps sake, Dustin rolling an 11 is a prediction of El not being able to kill Henry. Erica’s roll suggests that Henry will be killed, but by something more than just El.

So, Mike’s roll not being shown is on purpose. Whatever he rolled was indicative of a future event. The number he rolled had to be hidden, which makes me think that the number would’ve been far too obvious and would reveal something the Duffers don’t want us to know yet. The number also had to be low enough to lead to Mike being killed by a lower-classes enemy. Combining all that, what number applies to each of those categories?

1. Mike rolled a 1, and it led to his “death.”

But, a fake death doesn’t guarantee that he’s being held hostage. That’s where I want to jump all the way back to the ending of S1 and reference the final game the Party plays.

At the end of the campaign, there are three flaws the boys point out; the weird flowers in the cave, the proud princess, and the lost knight.

There are small hints in S2 that suggest Mike being the knight and Max being the princess. For example, we get confirmation that Mike plays as a Paladin when he isn’t being the DM, and nobody else plays a knightly role. We also see Lucas and Dustin fight over Princess Daphne from the Dragon’s Lair, and Lucas says, “Princess Daphne is still mine,” which predicts Lucas winning Max’s heart.

I point this out to show that this line is applicable to these characters in ways we don’t have exclusive evidence of yet. I have some thoughts about what ‘proud’ means for Max, but I wanna talk about Mike being ‘lost’.

There are a lot of possibilities when it comes to having a fake death, but a majority of them don’t involve being lost. Except, we have seen one before. When Will went missing, it was suggested that he got lost in the woods when we learned later that he was being held in the UD.

For Mike to go through with both being the lost knight, being ‘killed’ by Henry (One), and having a fake death, I believe we’ll be getting a situation that heavily parallels the events of S1. The Duffers have also confirmed that we’ll be going back to some S1 dynamics, which further cements this possibility for me.

Set Design

I’m not very great at noticing set design tidbits, but @causeineedu made notice of this set choice back in S2.

Yes, El is being referenced as the key in S2, but in her post she also points out the colors of the key and the lock. The keys are yellow and white;

The lock is blue;

Both Max and Mike are represented by blue in S4, and the lock being blue could be hinting at both of them. They’re often parallels, and Max’s mind being locked away at the end of the season could also be an indication of something similar happening to Mike later on, like this color-coding suggests.

If Henry were to hold Mike as a hostage, he would be physically locked away. I don’t think he’d lock away Mike’s mind, because he needs Mike to be found at some point and by doing that it would become much more difficult to lure out El and Will.

Narrative Evidence

Mike’s POV

Mike’s POV, or the severe lack of it, is something that has to be addressed in S5. For multiple seasons, we’ve been almost completely deprived of Mike’s perspective until the very end (which often involves his feelings for Will). Now that we’ve reached the final season, the things that have been hidden from us by blocking Mike’s perspective need to come to light to give us answers.

We need to understand why Mike’s behavior seems to change so drastically between S2 and S3, we need to know if Mike reciprocates Will’s feelings, and we need to explore how Mike has been impacted by the things he’s been experiencing both emotionally and supernaturally.

Henry’s ability to reach into people’s mind and expose them for their truest, most hidden thoughts is the perfect device for giving us the missing pieces of Mike’s POV. Narratively, it makes the most sense for Mike’s POV to be revealed through an already established creature which can reveal such things. It also gives an opportunity for us to understand Mike without his perspective being revealed to other characters, which is necessary because Mike needs to be making progress in many of his relationships himself, rather than by force of his feelings being directly revealed.

If Henry were to take Mike and put him under a trance in the UD, it would take time to find him. There would be plenty of time for Mike to go through an emotional confrontation if he’s kept under a trance for longer than any of the other characters we’ve seen; more so with the fact that Henry wouldn’t be doing this to kill Mike, but rather make it impossible for him to get directly involved in the situation.

Mike/Will Role Reversal

For S5, there have been a ton of hints that Will and Mike are gonna be switching their roles at some point. Will has already been confirmed to be a central character to S5, and he’s had a hero arc built up since S2. Those are both traits of Mike in S1. Since the Duffers have confirmed we’re returning to S1 dynamics in S5 and Will’s story likely won’t be paralleling his journey in S1, the dynamic Mike and Will fighting for each other will most likely be the aspect that stays the same.

There’s also the thing about Mike being the heart, and that without heart the Party would fall apart. In S1, the Party starts to fall apart without Will as they search for him. When Will moves away, the Party falls apart completely. If what Will says is true about Mike, then we’ll likely see the Party fall apart again in S5 because even if Mike isn’t the Party’s heart, he is most definitely Will’s;

“…and that’s what gives her the courage to fight on.”

I mention something back in the section about DND games, about how Mike’s kidnapping would be a direct parallel to Will’s kidnapping if this theory comes true. That possibility only adds onto the idea that Mike and Will are going to have reversed roles in S5.

If we put together Mike’s kidnapping with the Party falling apart, we’d get an exact parallel to S1. Will gets kidnapped and the Party starts to fall apart because of Mike’s insistence on finding Will. If Mike gets kidnapped, Will is not going to stop looking for him despite the danger, which might divide the party once again. As much as the other members would want to find Mike, all three of them have also witnessed the consequences of this stuff first hand through Max and Eddie’s deaths and are going to be much more reluctant in accepting going into the UD. It’s possible that we’ll get the same divide that we got in S1.

Narratively, that fulfills the dynamic match of S1, puts Will’s hero arc into motion, and incorporates what DND suggests about what could happen to Mike in S5.

Henry’s Advantage

How is Henry kidnapping Mike and holding him hostage more beneficial than just killing him? If he truly just wants Mike out of the way, why not make it impossible for him to come back?

Henry needs Mike in order to give himself the upper hand. He needs Mike because once Will knows where he is, it’ll draw him to him. What Henry wants is to get Will to join him in order to accomplish Henry’s ultimate goal (link). Will would never simply accept Henry’s offer, and he can’t take Will by force (Will was able to resist the MF, and Henry is not nearly as strong as it). To simply reach out to Will and cross over into the Rightside Up is something Henry isn’t stupid enough to do. The UD is Henry’s home turf and it gives him the advantage, so he has to lure Will into the UD.

If Henry holds Mike hostage, he acts as a lure and a bargaining tool; if Will works with Henry, then he’d spare Mike’s life and let him go. Killing Mike eliminates that possibility and gives Will even less of a reason to join him, but using Mike in an exchange would be much more up Henry’s alley. It’s the smarter choice to make, strategically. It gives him the advantage.

-> disgusted. but also thinks just a few rinses of water will do the trick. he doesn’t understand he’s actually got to get in there and pull them out. miwa is horrified walking into the bathroom to see tobio leaned over the bath with a tub full of cold water he’s ultimately wasted. he’s lucky miwa knows what she’s doing

TSUKISHIMA KEI

-> no mercy. rips the little mfs off his head like nobodies business. his brother can only stare in awe and disturbance. kei isn’t scared over a few bugs they’re only a minor annoyance. he won’t tell a soul he had headlice though and if anyone were to snitch on him, he’d probably shake a few off his head and onto yours.

YAMAGUCHI TADASHI

-> stressed. his hairs kinda long so they’re a pain the ass to get out some may think he’d be a little hesistant to tackle them alone but yams has several lice killing lotions in his bathroom ready to use. he is sympathetic but no way is he letting little bugs crawl around his head while he’s around tsukki

TANAKA RYUUNOSUKE

-> the bugs don’t even get to step on this kings prestine head,, next caller !!

NISHINOYA YUU

-> merciless. who tf do these bugs think they are stepping onto his territory? feral. probably put a few in a jar after pulling them out to bark at them and show them that they’ve crossed the line stepping onto his head

ASAHI AZUMANE

-> have sympathy for the guy they’re gonna be a nightmare for him. more upset than anything. now he’s being reduced to being ridiculed by tiny ass bugs too? give the guy a break. gets them out within the first day because he’s not going to suffer longer than he has to and continues doing the treatment for the rest of the week even though they’re certainly long gone

SUGAWARA KOUSHI

-> brutal. like tsukki he’s got no shame in just ripping them out. suga is the type of guy to catch spiders and gently let them out the window and not kill them. lice don’t get that treatment from him. will straight up throw them down the drain and smirk in the process

DAICHI SAWAMURA

-> just another minor occurrence for him. he’s got short hair it’s no biggie. will probably get his mother to help just to make sure he does it right but overall he’ll get rid of them effectively and quickly you wouldn’t even be able to tell he had them in the first place

KINDAICHI YUUTAROU

-> good. he deserves them. maybe this will teach him to get a good haircut. at least the lice like your cut g

KUNIMI AKIRA

-> tortures them after. probably wets a paper towel to keep them stuck to and jabs at them with a thin needle after he’s got them out. sadist little bitch probably has a deadpan expression while doing it too. the lice fear him across the country and avoid him from now on

KYOTANI KENTARO

-> again he’s got short hair so they’re not too big of a pain to get out but why the hell did they have to pick his head? probably picks them out and just throws them wherever he has no regard for where they land and who might catch them from him

HANAMAKI TAKAHIRO

-> little bugs are just chilling no biggie. probably tells the team he’s got them and shakes his head near them to piss them off. oikawa keeps his distance approximately 5 metres and refuses to be included in any rotation makki is in during practice. even after he gets rid of them he doesn’t tell the team and continues shaking his head near them just to ‘keep them on their toes’

MATSUKAWA ISSEI

-> won’t tell anyone other than makki. the two probably pick them out and throw them in oikawas direction leaving their captain confused as to why the hell the two of them keep throwing ‘nothing’ at him. probably gets rid of them within a week and sleeps with a shower cap on so they don’t touch his pillow, that’s his only rule while they spend their vacation on his head

IWAIZUMI HAJIME

-> isn’t scared of no bugs. probably would keep one and press it down just to stick in his childhood bug diary and sneers at how inferior the lice is compared to the other cooler bugs he’d caught before. his hairs short so again it’s not a huge issue for him. he’ll get rid of them quickly and effectively without too much hassle

OIKAWA TOORU

-> screams. begs iwa to take them out for him insisting that it’s his hobby but iwa rejects and leaves oikawa to handle it alone. oikawas sister dips as soon as she finds out and oikawa believes this is the end of his life. after a week of moping and being a brat, iwa gives in and sorts it out for him to finally give him a peace of mind.

LEV HAIBA

-> never had lice before and is genuinely interested rather than concerned. where did the little bugs come from? why do they like his hair so much? is he the chosen one? probably let’s them live on his head for a while until they become infuriatingly itchy and yaku finds out he’s been letting a cult of lice live on his head and forces him to get treatment

KOZUME KENMA

-> thinks bleach with solve it. everyone who hates kenma’s dark roots better be ready for them to go because he will just bleach the shit out of his hair and assume it’s killed them all. for the next few months his hairs gonna be nice but he’ll let his roots grow out again and you’ll secretly hope for him to catch lice again just so he’ll touch up his damn roots again

TAKETORA YAMAMOTO

-> it’s the blonde mohawk that’s the issue. why tf did he have to make his hair to awkward to work with. doesn’t take him long to get out but he probably picks them out walking home from practice or school and just chucks them in bushes or drains he walks past

MORISUKE YAKU

-> you really think he’s about to let some stupid bugs live on his head and not pay rent? absolutely not. has several different brands of lice treatment lotion and uses at least 4 in one go. that amount of chemicals probably isn’t good for you in one go but his only goal is to kill the lice which he achieves. these bugs are mercilessly killed, revived and killed again all in one treatment session

KUROO TETSURŌ

-> this hurt to write knows exactly how to kill them and won’t hesitate in doing so. by that i mean he’s going straight to his grandmother to do it for him because as much as he knows about treatment and such, nobody does anything better than his grandmother and he’ll sit in a chair with a towel around his neck chattering on about his day as his poor grandmother slaves over his head ripping out the stupid bugs from his inconviently styled hair. kuroo’s lucky his grandmother knows he’s her boy

AKAASHI KEIJI

-> bless his soul he’s horrified. disgusting little creatures, believes they’re vermin of the world. mutters in disgust at them as he watches them drown in the pool of water in his bathtub sink eventually sending them down the drain where he hopes they suffer a painful afterlife

KONOHA AKINORI

-> he’s grossed out but doesn’t make a huge deal about it. probably violates himself and gives himself the nickname ‘nitty nori the bug explorer’. he can take a joke and get rid of them in the same week. ugh king shit

BOKUTO KOUTARŌ

-> pain in the ass. he’s excited about these bugs but also worried? do they want to suck his blood? will they crawl into his ears at night? his sisters are the ones responsible with dealing with them and the whole time he’s asking a abundance of random questions regarding the lice and why they chose his head to make their residence

TENDŌ SATORI

-> probably sings at them to make them uncomfortable as he pulls them out. his fingers work magic as he flawlessly picks them out and sends them on their way down to the depths of the drain. the last thing these bugs hear is the terrifying voice of the man who mercilessly sent them to their death beds

USHIJIMA WAKATOSHI

-> his hairs short it’s okay it’s not the end of the world but rather than killing them he believes they have more use to them. he’s going to throw them in this soil in the garden and assume they work the same miracles worms do. he’ll be disappointed to know that they had no effect on his soil and he wasted his damn time making sure to evenly spread them out of the compost heap

MIYA OSAMU

-> will eat with a hat on. if these bugs are gonna live on his head no way is he sharing his food too. they’ve already taken enough from him. atsumu probably bullies him for his lice but freaks out when osamu tells him that because they’re twins, the lice will seek out his head too and they’ll both be infected. he only survives the short period of time with his lice because of the amusement he gets from watching atsumu consciously stay away from him even to the point where atsumu moves onto the couch. maybe he should let the lice vacate a little longer next time

MIYA ATSUMU

-> hates them. calls them every name under the sun but doesn’t actually effectively try to get rid of them. he doesn’t actually know how to get rid of them but is too embarrassed to admit it so he just lives with it. luckily, the lice decided to move in a few days before his hair was due for a touch up so like kenma, he just bleached the shit out of them and it seems to do the trick. it would be concerning had his hair not needed a touch up though who knows how long he would’ve had them.

SUNA RINTARŌ

-> his little sister notices his hand scratching his head constantly and begins to refer to suna as ‘nit boy’ and only ‘nit boy’. he doesn’t really care at first because surely a single shower will do the trick but his sisters provoking gets so annoying he just ends up treating them 7 times over but not before threatening to leave a few dead ones on his sisters pillow if she doesn’t stop calling him names

ARAN OJIRO

-> again, the lice don’t even get to step on his head. they see aran and they respect him. he seems like a nice and reliable guy so why would they go to the efforts of bothering him? probably nod their tiny ass antennas from atsumu’s hair and let aran go about his day in peace

KITA SHINSUKE

-> lice simply don’t exist in kita’s presence. the second a lice stepped foot on kita’s head, he senses it and ripped the mf off before it could even find a nice area to settle. lice keep away from kita at all times and never intend on crossing paths with him

KIYOOMI SAKUSA

-> an indescribable level of disgusted. refuses to accept it at first, insists that lice simply wouldn’t have been able to touch his head but alas he is wrong. tempted to shave his hair off but then again why should he have to suffer just because some stupid bugs said so. has no mercy, will treat his hair every day for the next month and a half and cusses the bugs out as they fall down the drain

Omg please Bokuto would be so excited, bouncing up and down as he drags you into the gym

Even though he knows how short you are and what position you play, this mf is still going to beg you to block for him

“Please baby, please! Block for me!” And you’re standing there like Bokuto…. I can’t even reach the top of the net, how do you expect me to-

You two will find a happy medium where he spikes the ball and you receive it, that way he always gets the ball back to him 

Every time you make contact with the ball, expect praise from Bokuto like this man will shower you in compliments

“Babe, you’re the coolest libero ever!” “Are you sure you aren’t a secret ace, (Y/N)?”

Bokuto will sometimes show you his little tips and tricks he has learned over the years and when you applaud him he will literally stand all proud like he just won the Olympics 

He loooooves when you compliment his skills and praise him, he’s such a cutie 

Most times after your little practices Bokuto will take you out to get food like a little lunch date because he wants to treat his baby~

Bokuto will brag about you to everyone and say that if you were on their team then they would be unstoppable!!

“Was that too hard?” Bokuto asks, concern filling his voice and you give him a soft smile. Despite the sting your forearms are facing, it wasn’t that bad, you’re used to powerful balls like that.

“Don’t worry, Kou, I’m fine.” You reassure him and Bokuto instantly perks up again, his hair bouncing with excitement. 

“You’re the best, babe! Get ready for this one!” He sucks in a breath of air before tossing the ball up, setting it up for himself so he can smack it onto the other side of the court. You quickly move a few feet and fall back onto your butt at the impact, you still got the ball back up into the air and onto Bokuto’s side. Bokuto looks so impressed that he doesn’t even notice the ball falling above him, it drops on his head with a slight pop. Almost as if it didn’t happen, your boyfriend runs under the net and over to you. He pretty much tackles you to the ground and you try not to wince under his weight. 

“Are you okay?” Bokuto asks as he towers above you with his hands planted on either side of your head. You give him a comforting smile and reach up to push his slightly sweaty hair from his face. 

“Again, I’m fine Kou, you don’t have to worry.” Bokuto pouts at your words and you sit up to peck his lips, giving him a gentle kiss. “You need to get a headband, can you even see when your hair falls over your eyes like this?” You push the strands off his forehead, whenever his hair gets wet it falls onto his face.

“I don’t need a headband.” Bokuto grumbles and you place your hands on his thighs as he straddles you. 

“Mmm, okay,” Your tone is full of disbelief and Bokuto leans forward to bring his mouth to yours.

“I don’t! I’ll prove it!”

“How is you kissing me going to prove anything-“

Kuroo Tetsurou

Kuroo loves to see you in spandex so he will always invite you to practice with him

Please, his eyes never leave your ass and he stares so boldly and confidently

If you wear sweatpants to practice he will physically deflate like he will try not to look bothered but deep down he’s hurt that he doesn’t get to ogle his prize~

He is verrrryyy teasing,,, hehe he will purposely do stuff to make practice with him even harder just so he can watch you struggle

You want a ball? Okay, get it out of his hands that he’s holding above his head. He demands a kiss for anything you want 

Kuroo will idly chat with you while you two are playing like if you’re asking him to throw you balls to receive he will toss them at full speed while talking shit about anything

“He’s literally the shrewed type,” *throws two balls at you one after another* “like I would ever lose to a guy like that.” *cue you on the floor like Lev after the summer training camp*

There always comes a point in your little joint practice where Kuroo can no longer keep his hands to himself and ends up grabbing a handful of your ass

Yeah, practice usually ends after that because you ignore him to work on your own skills

Kuroo always makes it up to you though, he treats you to desert afterward </3 so he can fuck you on a full stomach

Kuroo’s frown quickly turns into a smile when you turn around to face him. The second you go back to stretching the pout returns to his face and he glares at the thick material covering your legs. It will ultimately be his downfall. 

“Are you going to stretch?” You call playfully and Kuroo moves to sit behind you, his long arms wrap around your waist as you continue to lean forward in your straddle stretch. “You’re going to get a cramp, kitten.” You scold and Kuroo leans more of his weight against your back as he cuddles into you. 

You refrain from rolling your eyes as you continue to reach for your toes. After a few minutes and a few more positions, you try to break out of Kuroo’s grip. It’s like he has an iron hold on you, you find it nearly impossible to get out of his arms. 

“Alright, get up,” You gently pat at his arms and Kuroo squeezes you in his arms. After much internal debate, he reluctantly lets go of you and you stand up before walking over to the bench. Kuroo stares at his shoes as he reties them and out of the corner of his eye, he catches you bending over. His stomach drops when he realizes you’re slipping your sweatpants off and revealing to him his favorite pair of spandex on your bottom. 

You glance back at Kuroo and send him a wink, appreciating how shocked he looks for a moment before his face falls back to his normal taunting glare. 

“Too bad we can’t play together since you didn’t stretch,” You sigh mockingly and walk up to the net, dragging the cart of volleyballs behind you.

“I don’t need a warm-up, baby, I can work just fine without one.” Kuroo retorts suggestively and you shrug as he ends up right by your side.

Guess who gets a cramp ten minutes later.

Sakusa Kiyoomi

Sakusa would be really pleased that you want to play volleyball with him, he would really admire your skills

Would Sakusa tell you this though, no! But, you can see the smile in his eyes~ 

Practice with him is usually serious and quiet unless you like to talk then Sakusa will let you talk all you want!!

He gives his own little noises to show that he is actively listening 

The two of you clean all the equipment before and after practice, not that you mind though because now you know everything is squeaky clean! And because you get to spend more time with Sakusa

Sakusa watches you a lot when you practice, it might not look like it because he is so focused on honing his skills but…. His eyes rarely leave your body

Whenever you do something that he likes, he smiles and if you catch him doing this, the tips of his ears will turn red and he will stare at the ceiling instead of you 

Sometimes he will ask you how his form looks or if you think he could do something better,,, he does it to engage in a conversation with you, not that he thinks he needs to change anything different 

Sakusa is ready with water for you and is prepared to throw you a towel or anything you need whenever you guys take breaks

After practice you two always have another session in the shower,,,, I’ll let your mind wander with that~

“Should I arch my back more into the spike?” Sakusa asks and stares at you with curious eyes. “I noticed how Wakatoshi does it and it really makes for a powerful hit.” You stare down at the ball in your hands and think to yourself in your head, Sakusa wants advice from you?

“I think your form is already really good Omi, don’t compare yourself to other people.” You tell him and spin the ball on your fingers. “You’re the best ace there is, the best ace in the country!” 

Sakusa stumbles a little bit over your praise, he wasn’t expecting that answer from you. He continues to watch as you work on your own individual skills and he feels like he can’t take his eyes off of you. 

“Can you toss to me? I want to see if I can still receive as well as I used to!” You bend down to get under the net and Sakusa mentally slaps himself for where his eyes snap to. He nods to your question and grabs a couple of balls to give you. Your boyfriend watches in amazement how you get every ball he throws you, even the ones he purposely makes hard. 

After a handful, he stops and you stare at him in confusion, Sakusa walks over to the bench and hands you a bottle of water.

“Here, you need to stay hydrated.” He tells you and you nod before grabbing the drink, eager to quench your thirst.

“Aren’t you so caring~” You tease and Sakusa tilts his head, watching you carefully.

“Yes.” You can’t help but laugh at his response and you playfully blow him a kiss, knowing he probably doesn’t want your touch right now.

How wrong you are.

“Let’s end for the day.” Sakusa grabs your wrist and leads you to the locker room. 

“Kiyoomi? It’s only been thirty minutes?!”

So I broke down the Video Store Fridays list into categories and thought I'll explain my reasoning when it comes some of them, and especially the characters

Here's Eleven to start with!

- The Book of Henry

(SYNOPSIS: With instructions from her genius son's carefully crafted notebook, a single mother sets out to rescue a young girl from the hands of her abusive stepfather.)

It's the biggest title on the board with several exclamation marks so it's obviously important, possibly the most important film reference for s4 and who else fits the description of "a young girl from the hands of her abusive stepfather" as well as El does

- Pan's Labyrinth

(SYNOPSIS: In the Falangist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world. She must prove her royalty by surviving three gruesome tasks. If she fails, she will never prove herself to be the true princess and will never see her real father, the king, again.)

Another step-father giving Dr. Brenner vibes. Also some ppl have the theory that El made up the Upside Down, or that it's her reflection of sorts, a place she can travel or escape to. Also one of the most important movies I feel because it's a fairy tale world but with a dark twist which The Duffers like to do

- Labyrinth

(SYNOPSIS: Sixteen-year-old Sarah is given thirteen hours to solve a labyrinth and rescue her baby brother Toby when her wish for him to be taken away is granted by the Goblin King Jareth.)

Another girl, another trial, another imaginary world. She has to go on trails, travel to this magical world to discover her identity. Identity is a big thing with El in season 4 and the movies below prove that

- Carrie

(SYNOPSIS: Carrie White, a shy, friendless teenage girl who is sheltered by her domineering, religious mother, unleashes her telekinetic powers after being humiliated by her classmates at her senior prom.)

I feel Carrie is always at the back of The Duffer's minds when it comes to El bc it's Stephen King and she also has telekinesis. Also we know El is bullied at school.

- Inside Out

(SYNOPSIS: After young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school)

Pretty self-explanatory. El has a hard time adjusting to her new life in California

- Karate Kid

(SYNOPSIS: Teenager Daniel LaRusso is bullied by Johnny Lawrence, who is adept at martial arts. In order to defend himself, he tries to learn karate from Mr Miyagi, his apartment's kind handyman.)

It deals with bullying and self-defense and having a mentor. That's a speculation on my part but Eleven might find a mentor this season in terms of her powers. Someone who might be able to teach her how to get her powers back perhaps. Or she's gonna learn karate and kick the MF ass

- Kingsman

(SYNOPSIS: A spy organisation recruits a promising street kid into the agency's training program, while a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.)

Another struggling kid with an abusive dad who gets a mentor and his life changes for the better. Could be about El

- Little Miss Sunshine

(SYNOPSIS: A family decide to travel across the country when their daughter wants to participate in a beauty pageant, unaware of what the journey has in store for the)

Haven't seen that film but it has another young girl as a protagonist, a road trip and a road to self discovery

- Little Women 1994

(SYNOPSIS: After their father leaves to fight in the Union Army, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, the four March sisters, and their mother, struggle to live in a 19th century America amidst the Civil War.)

It's giving me Hopper is gone now so Joyce and El have to live without him and support each other and grow. It has Winnona in it so I think it may be about Joyce and El

- Peter Pan

I feel like El is both Peter Pan who knows, lives in and travels, and refuses to leave, the Neverland (Upside Down) and Wendy who has travelled there but ultimately decides to leave and grow up through a road of self-discovery. Another thing that's interesting is that in the 2003 movie Jason Isaacs played both Mr. Darling and Captain Hook so again we have this Dr. Brenner-y interlocking theme of father and villain

- Step Up 2

(SYNOPSIS: Orphaned teenager Andie lives with her mother's best friend, Sarah, and does not care much about school. In an attempt to figure out where she fits, she discovers that her passion lies in dancing.)

El discovers that her passion lies in dancing... lol. But no, there's more self-discovery for a girl with a troubled background

- Stoker

(SYNOPSIS: After the untimely death of her father, India and her mother are left alone in their estate. Soon, the arrival of her uncle Charlie, who she never knew existed, is followed by unexpected developments.)

Death of a father, troubled female protagonist trying to figure herself out, discovering she's not as good of a girl as she thought

- Tangled

An abused girl with magi powers breaking away from her tower/prison and going on adventures and discovering who she is outside of her past. Evil step mom trope, again very Dr. Brenner-y

- Terminator Dark Fate

(SYNOPSIS: An augmented human and Sarah Connor must stop an advanced liquid Terminator from hunting down a young girl, whose fate is critical to the human race.)

A young girl, whose fate is critical to the human race? Well...

- The Wizard of Oz

Magical land of Oz and a young girl who travels there hmm

- Willow

(SYNOPSIS: Willow, a farmer, is entrusted with the task of delivering Elora, a princess who is destined to defeat the evil Queen Bavmorda, to the humans to keep her safe.)

At this point if there's a special young girl who can save the world/defeat great evil then it's about El

- Welcome to the Dollhouse

(SYNOPSIS: Middle-school student Dawn Weiner faces degradation at school -- where she is teased constantly -- and at home. The middle child between nerdy older brother Mark and perky younger sister Missy.)

Bullying, struggling with school and insecurities, and being a weird girl. Hello, El

- Return of thr Jedi

(SYNOPSIS: Luke Skywalker attempts to bring his father back to the light side of the Force. At the same time, the rebels hatch a plan to destroy the second Death Star.)

I don't remember anything from this film but the synopsis says it's about Luke and his evil dad which is very Dr. Brenner-y if you ask me. Also El and Luke have powers and are chosen ones so it fits

- Empire strikes back

(SYNOPSIS: Darth Vader is adamant about turning Luke Skywalker to the dark side. Master Yoda trains Luke to become a Jedi Knight while his friends try to fend off the Imperial fleet.)

Again, bad dads who want to turn you evil, don't we all know it. Also Luke training under Yoda. The mentor trope is strong with this one

- The Orphan

(SYNOPSIS: After losing their baby, a couple adopt a nine-year-old girl. However, they soon make a troubling discovery about her mysterious past and uncover several traits of her disturbing personality.)

Haven't seen the film but the synopsis is pretty self-explanatory. I firmly believe it's a reference to El

- Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors

(SYNOPSIS: The victims, who survive the attack of the dangerous killer Freddy Krueger, learn to control their dreams in an attempt to fight back.)

Victims of the MF vibes. I wonder if that's how they're gonna fight back against it? That they so gain some sort of shared powers? Is it the sort of mind walking we saw El do before? Hmm

- Long kiss goodnight

(SYNOPSIS: Samantha Caine suffers from amnesia. Her mysterious past begins to haunt her, which sets her off on a search to discover her true identity.)

Self discovery and identity!!

- Let the right one in

(SYNOPSIS: Oskar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl.)

Haven't seen the film but a special girl named Eli??

- Girl interrupted

(SYNOPSIS: A directionless teenager, Susanna, is rushed to Claymoore, a mental institution, after a supposed suicide attempt. There, she befriends a group of troubled women who deeply influence her life.)

Another Winnona movie! Which makes me think it's about El. Finding weird friends? Idk. Finding herself? It seems like

- Edward Scissorhands

(SYNOPSIS: Edward, a synthetic man with scissor hands, is taken in by Peg, a kindly Avon lady, after the passing of his inventor. Things take a turn for the worse when he is blamed for a crime he did not commit.)

Another Winnona movie. Another dead dad (Brenner and Hopper), another orphan taken by a kind lady. Edaward is a special boy so is El

- The Craft

(SYNOPSIS: A new student befriends three teenage girls from her high school who practise witchcraft against those who irk them. However, the consequences of joining the coven turn out to be disastrous.)

Magic, a new girl at school and bullying? El vibes

- Amelie

(SYNOPSIS: Despite being caught in her imaginative world, Amelie, a young waitress, decides to help people find happiness. Her quest to spread joy leads her on a journey where she finds true love.)

Amelie is a special girl who is defined by her imagination. She sees the world how she wants to see it. And she has a lot of things in common with El in that aspect

- Daryl (Movie in theatres at the mall in s3)

(SYNOPSIS: Daryl is a normal 10-year-old boy in many ways. However, unbeknown to his foster parents and friends, Daryl is actually a government-created robot with superhuman reflexes and mental abilities. Even his name has a hidden meaning -- it's actually an acronym.)

Well... foster parents again, a kid that is not what they seem, an government experiment with a unique name relating to their purpose

- Return to Oz (Movie in theatres at the mall in s3)

(SYNOPSIS: Back in Kansas, Dorothy is rescued from a psychiatric experiment by a mysterious girl. Soon, she finds herself back in Oz to fight a vain witch and an evil king intent on destroying the land.)

Psychiatric experiment hmm. And aspecial girl who has to go back to the magical land to defeat a great evil that wants to destroy the world. Maybe we'll see El actually going to the Upside Down

- Firestarter (movie advertised in the Video Store)

(SYNOPSIS: A couple who participated in a potent medical experiment gain telepathic ability and then have a child who is pyrokinetic.)

Parent(s) who participated in an experiment. Having a child who has abilities. And bad guys chasing her, wanting to explore them

- Fifth Element

(SYNOPSIS: Korben Dallas, a cab driver, tries to secure four mystical stones and a mysterious fifth element that alone can defeat a cosmic evil force during an apocalyptic war.)

Leeloo is another special girl, a part of experiment and on a journey to defeat evil.

CONCLUSION:

I don't think it's a big revelation but El will definitely take this season to discover herself, who she is in the "normal" world and deal with normal teen problems, like bullying, as well as discover/deal with her past. I hope there will be some revelations about her past that will be connected more to her opening the gate and her connection to the Upside Down. A few films mention a mental institution and experiments so that's also something to look forward to. She is also the savior and will be detrimental to defeating the MF. I also hope she will travel to the Upside Down this season

when bokuto invited you to the beach with his teammates, you were hesitant to accept

the only person you knew somewhat personally was akaashi, since you three would hangout all the time

plus, you were basically the polar opposite of bokuto, which meant that you didn’t immediately warm up to people

but he practically begged you to go and how could you say no to that cute face🥺

currently, you were sprawled out on the towel you brought for yourself and bokuto, clad in jean shorts and a t-shirt

you were sweating buckets so you decided to undress, you had a bikini underneath your clothes anyways

and the guys were playing beach volleyball, so it’s not like anyone was gonna notice... right?

well after you’d taken off your top and began to pull your shorts down your thighs, you could hear the entire team making their way over to you (as you all had set up your belongings in the same area)

quickly, you slipped off your shorts and sat criss cross on the towel

“[Y/NNNNN]!” a loud, whining voice called out

without giving you anytime to process, bokuto threw himself on top of you, causing you to fall over

“i’m thirstyyyy” he cried, pressing his face into your neck

your eyes widened at the display of affection, gently pushing him away

“idiot... you’re lucky i brought you a drink.” you teased, handing him the bottle of pocari sweat from your purse

“AHHAHHAHA LOOK!!! MY GIRLFRIEND BROUGHT ME A DRINK! YOU GUYS DON’T HAVE GIRLFRIENDS THAT BRING YOU DRINKS!”

just smile politely y’all. we’re witnessing mental illness❤️

you looked at him like🤨🤨 wondering wtf possessed him to even say that

as he sipped happily on the sports drink, hand snakes around your waist and ranting to akaashi about something you couldn’t quite catch, you observed the rest of his team sitting on their towels and gulping down their own drinks

“aaah, i forgot to bring my water and i don’t have any money...” your ears perked up at the sound of the person’s voice

you scanned the area, eyes falling upon wataru, who was empty handed. you felt bad

should i give him a drink?, you thought, mulling the idea over

it was hot and he had just played beach volleyball (which was much more tiring than regular volleyball) in the scorching sun...

it was as if your feet were moving on their own as you grabbed the bottled drink and moved away from bokuto’s grasp, not stopping until you reached your kouhai

“wataru-kun?” you mumbled quietly

his eyes trailed your exposed skin until reaching yours

you didn’t notice how the tips of his ears began to blush, or how his entire face was red

probably because yours was too... not because of him, but because that’s what happened when you talked to anyone who wasn’t in your immediate circle

you also didn’t notice how he was no longer looking into your eyes, but an area just below them

“eh... i heard you say that you forgot to bring a drink and i had an extra so... here you go!”

you extended your arm, waiting for him to accept it

you waited... and waited... and waited...

“wataru-kun?” you questioned, lowering your hand. god, did you just embarrass yourself?

it wasn’t until another first year (anahori, was it?) slapped the back of his head that he responded

“ah-thank you, [l/n]-senpai!” he blurted, grabbing the drink from your hand

you smiled, happily walking back to your seat

wait, where was bokuto?

you scanned the area to find bokuto a few feet away from his original spot, curled into himself and staring at the ocean

oh god, he was in his emo mode

“eh... akaashi? what happened to bokuto?” you whispered as to not alarm your boyfriend who could probably still here you

“wataru was staring at your chest and he got upset.” he replied in a monotonous tone

“AKAASHI!” you screeched, punching him in the shoulder. “why do you say things so bluntly? i’m going to go see if he’s ok.”

still embarrassed, you unconsciously crossed your arms

as you approached bokuto, you could practically feel the gloomy aura surrounding his form

“bokuto? are you alright?”

“i am a failure.”

HUH😀

“what? what do you mean?”

he turned to look at you, incredibly small and fully white eyes staring into your own

“another man was looking at my girlfriend inappropriately and i did nothing to stop it... i am a failure... you should breakup with me now.”

AHDJSJFKF WHAT KIND OF LOGIC???

“man...? wataru-kun is a first year, bokuto. he’s 15. a child. and i’m sure he didn’t mean to offend me, i didn’t even notice. if he had given me any trouble i could have handled it myself.”

your words fell on deaf ears as bokuto day in silence, resembling the 😞 emoji

you reached your hands to cup his face, but he turned around dramatically

“don’t look at me, this is the face of a loser!”

ok now you were a little annoyed

you forcefully grabbed his face and turned it towards your own with such ferocity that bokuto thought he’d gotten whiplash

“BOKUTO, you’re my boyfriend. my handsome, talented, amazing, boyfriend. you’re one of the top five aces in the country. wataru-kun doesn’t even compare to someone like you. he’s just a boy, go out there and show him what a man is! how scary and powerful his captain is!”

in a flash, the dark and gloomy aura dissapeared and was replaced by bokuto’s usually energetic and friendly air

“HEY HEY HEY, YOU’RE RIGHT. I AM THE BEST! I’M GONNA GO KICK HIS ASS IN YOUR HONOR!”

“bokuto that’s not what i meant—no!—BOKUTO!”

when in reality it was actually just a day off to have fun and forget about volleyball even if it was just for a few hours

“come on, [y/n]! it’ll be fun! you don’t even have to go in the ocean if you don’t want to.”

you rolled your eyes, scoffing at the suggestion

“of course i’m going in the ocean, idiot. i’m not just going to watch you all have fun.”

“perfect! i’ll pick you up from your dorm on saturday at two. make sure your ready.”

and that was that

tendou had picked you up as promised and the two of you made your way to the beach together

the sun was relentlessly beating down on you two, so by the time you had reached your destination, you were already sweating

“ugh,” you whined in displeasure. “my skin’s already starting to feel hot. i’m just going to change here, ‘kay?”

“good idea” he responded, taking off his shirt

you stripped down to your bikini and stuffed your clothes in your bag, wiping the sweat from your forehead.

a low whistle sounded from tendou

“wow, [y/n]! look at you, semi is going to just eat you up!”

you scoffed, punching him in the stomach. even though you knew he didn’t mean it in a suggestive way, you hated when he teased you. he knew just how to push you buttons.

“i will literally kill you. now lets go meet up with the others, creep.”

he chuckled, but followed you nonetheless.

you smiled as you saw the entire shiratorizawa volleyball team sat in a circle, enjoying a picnic

“hello, eita!” you grinned, pressing a light kiss to his temple

he immediately stiffened against the abrupt touch, softening when he recognized that it was you

“[y/n]? what are you doing here?” he was thoroughly confused, turning his whole body to you

“tendou invited me! why do you not want me here?” you pouted, placing your hands on your thighs

at the suggestion he was immediately reduced to a stuttering mess. his usually stoic attitude was replaced by nervousness and defensiveness

“o-of course not! i just assumed only the team was coming. i’m glad you’re here, promise.”

his seriousness always made you laugh, maybe that’s why you loved teasing him

“i’m just fucking with you, eita.”

his automatic response was: “oh, well then eat shit.”

Alice hated masquerade balls.

She hated them with a passion. There was just something irritating about them... how those disgustings pigs, commonly referred to as men, often tried to lure her into bed; or how, every time she talked to women, their conversations would almost always end up in gossips about her family's riches that were acquired with bloody hands, and how they killed countless people under a single man's orders, not knowing the person they were talking to about it is part of said family. Yet despite her loathing for occasions like these, Alice would still have to attend, for it was the only way she could fraternize with others. Her family was shunned by society for being such a hideous and brutal one. But here, in masquerade balls, she can wear a mask and pretend to be someone else and mingle to her heart's content. Nobody would know it was a girl from a bloody household.

Once or twice, Alice had danced with a few nobilities she considered decent enough for her. Those who weren't pedophiles, she conversed with. Those who were purely sober, she'd bonded with. But it was way past midnight now and she had gotten bored of the ball. A woman can only take so much soulless dancing and meaningless political talks. Not to mention the rough mask that hid her face from bashers, was starting to irritate her sensitive porcelain skin.

With a forced smile, the young descendant of the country's most infamous household excused herself from the festivities and went to the garden. Truly, it was a beautiful garden. The flowers were in full bloom and the breeze was refreshing. Alice stretched, in a way that was very undignified. Yet she couldn't care less. Her muscles were sore from keeping up a flawlessly upright posture all this time, and she was bored beyond measure.

The itch on her face that was long there reached its peak, and Alice couldn't take it anymore. She moved to dispose her mask until a voice warned her, "It's rude to take off your mask in a ball like this."

It was a man's voice, smooth like the waves and light as the garden's breeze. Undoubtedly, it had belonged to a young man... a cool young man. But Alice despised people who dared talk to her so fondly. She swirled around to reprimand whoever it had been.

"I don't recall holding responsibility to oblige," she retorted, her prissy tone leaking with every syllable. One corner of the man's lips slowly curled upwards in an amused smirk.

"Then by all means, go embarrass yourself."

Alice scoffed with irritation. Who does this man think he is? Yes, it's true that taking off your mask is a big no in a masquerade ball, but--

Oh.

She suddenly felt like smacking her forehead. If she takes the accessory off, she's to reveal her identity. And no doubt receive countless ridicules. And Alice didn't want that, especially from a man like him. Her cheeks flushed in realization. Suddenly the girl wanted to keep it on and couldn't feel the itch anymore.

"You're from the infamous Bright household, aren't you? Alice Bright, if I'm correct; twin sister of Edgar Bright, the Jack of Hearts and known as the Gentle Demon." surprise mf

Alice took her time studying the man. How had he known about her? What gave it away? What had she done to inform him of her identity? Most of all, who is this bastard? He was handsome, without a doubt, even with a mask on; black hair and intense emerald eyes, containing a youthful aura, but at the same time holding himself with such composed regality. His body was carved to perfection. He wore a simple yet dazzling dark sapphire mask with round diamonds literring it, the suit on his body looking ridiculously expensive.

Dark and regal... only one name clicked in the girl's head: the popular and widely loved King of Spades.

"I take it you're King Ray Blackwell...?"

The man rolled his eyes distastefully at the attached title. But he made no move to deny his identity, something that's against tradition. 'How hypocritical,' Alice thought dryly.

"Forget the King part, it's too preppy for my tastes," he said. "Just Ray is fine."

Alice rose a thin eyebrow. For a king, Ray Blackwell was too casual. She's always depicted him as cold and dignified, with no intention of fooling around; just like the opposing King of Hearts. Yet here he was: the Black King himself who didn't give a horse's muck whether people found out about his identity or not, speaking informally as if he'd known Alice all their lives.

'Charming-- I mean, preposterous! Ghastly!'

Well... what can she say? It's her first time meeting a man like Ray; someone true to himself and didn't stumble foolishly in a vain attempt of becoming the perfect gentleman.

But no. In the Bright household, emotions were a mortal sin. It was the biggest crime. And Alice grew up all her life believing it.

Naturally, she ignored her fluttering heart.

"So," Alice walked around the garden with Ray. She hadn't even noticed how her irritation with him had suddenly faded after witnessing his genuine personality. "The King of Spades is a fan of balls, then?"

Ray snorted. "Heck no. What makes you think that just because I attend 'em, I like 'em? Isn't everyone only here for the sake of making connections?"

"Probably." Alice would be damned if she voiced her agreement. "And does that rule apply to you as well, sire?"

Ray gave the girl a disgusted look. She only blinked, urging him to voice out what took him aback.

"Okay. One, it doesn't. I'm just here to let loose for a bit. Second... Cut that formality out! It's creepy." "Why so? Do your soldiers not address you that way?"

Ray's green orbs took on a fond light, giving Alice the answer right away, as if his memories of his subordinates were all warm and cozy. One could tell he was a good leader and a true king by just a glance of that. And maybe, she thought, he was a brother, too; a brother to the rest of his army. Alice wondered how they treated each other... did they eat at the same table? Did they disregard ranks and fraternized comfortably? Was it like a home in the Black Army's headquarters?

"They address me as a king during official business, yes," he replied. "But we're just ourselves around one another for most of the time. Parties every week or so, lots of laughter and pranks... it's like a brotherhood."

The faintest trace of a smile ghosted the girl's lips. "It sounds lovely."

From there, it went on and on. Ray asked Alice what was her favorite animal, to which she replied cats for they were elegant and had the cutest little mewls; and much to her surprise, Ray shared her thoughts. She, in return, asked him what he thought about table etiquette, and he laughed at just how preppy Alice was being. Nevertheless, he answered her, saying "I think dining fancily's fine if serious stuff are going on, like funerals or oathtakings. It's a way of showing respect. But people shouldn't be judged by how they act at the table. In fact, class shouldn't even be a social judgement or something. 'Course, this is just my opinion. And I think table manners should be kept to a minimum. People deserve to enjoy their food and time without fear of being critiqued of how classy or polite they are. They should be able to be just themselves in a table, because after all, that honesty's bound to form really tight relationships real quick, no?"

A bit more of talking and before she even knew it, it had been past 3AM now. Alice never thought it would be so fun to converse with the king. He was honest and frank, yet still respectful and even funny. They shared a lot of opinions about several topics, and one's answer changed the perspective of the other. The Bright lady wished to the twinkling stars high above she'd get another chance at talking with Ray in the future.

Now, Alice knew she shouldn't be rooting for the opposition. Her household is a Red through and through. In fact, her brother's the Jack of Hearts himself! At the back of her head, the ever-obedient little prodigy of the Bright family screamed at her to get away and cut off all connections with Blackwell. 'What do you think you're doing?!' a part of her screeched.

But right now, she wasn't really a Bright. She was just Alice. Little ol' Alice, who came to a masquerade ball in hopes of being able to talk to whoever she wants without her status bothering her. And she wasn't ready to throw that away just yet, and return to her uptight lifestyle.

'Just not yet, please,' she pleaded with her own self.

Suddenly, a slow, hopeful, smooth tune took on. It was faint and distant, coming from the ballroom many yards away. Yet she and Ray both heard it, the melody carried by the wind to their ears, and Ray took the cue.

"May I have this dance, Alice?" He asked her, the gentlest, most handsome smile on his lips, offering her his hand, and the girl's heart skipped a beat.

Had it been any other man; a pretentious, try-hard fake gentleman or a drunk bastard, she would've slapped. But no... not this one. He was a bastard, yes, the feisty part of her claimed, but he was a good bastard. A modest, decent, alright bastard.

Alice let her face be lit up by a grin. It had been her first in so long. She placed her hand on top Ray's and they both started dancing to the slow, almost-romantic music, everything else fading and all they could feel was this blossoming warmth in their souls.

And long after the song was over, and all was said and done, they still remained in one another's embrace. Red and Black forgetting their blazing feud for even just a moment; even in just a masquerade ball. They're just Alice and Ray, each silently praying dawn never comes and they'd never have to say theeir goodbyes.

Alice giggled under her breath. She'd decided. Maybe masquerades aren't so bad after all.

jinsol was born october 31, 1997 and grew up not far from wisconsin in chicago, il. he had two loving parents and ... unfortunately for them they gave birth to this headass. he’s always been a troublemaker, since he was in his underoos. like he just thrives when he can test authority & boundaries, and rebel even in the smallest way. he gave his poor parent such a hard time ajdflsjd pour one out for mr. & mrs. lee please! he was definitely that kid growing up that if another kid’s mom saw them playing together she’d be like “maybe we don’t want to hang around jinsol, billy!! we can get new friends!!” adsld. had a couple stints in juvie during his youth (mostly 4 being a lil thief and stealing .. a car ) and ran away from home TWICE (......just like TT). how he even graduated high school is a mf MIRACLE friends ... he has literally no sense of responsibility and no desire to be a functioning member of society !!! his parents moved back to south korea, their home country, when jinsol turned 18 and he doesn’t speak with them a lot these days. 

he’s always been really skilled in one thing and that’s art. he’s a real art hoe. he was always very secretive about it during his school years and just kept his little doodles to himself, so now’s his time to shine!!

jinsol is messy and a mess. no matter what the situation, he puts himself and his own needs first and foremost. he thinks a lot of himself, very vain. he’s loyal to the people he holds close but has an awful way of showing it!! like he lies, cheats, & manipulates when it’s convenient for him but if he gets caught he’s just like “oopsies uwuw it won’t happen again!!” (spoiler alert: he probably will). he likes to keep busy & is very like ... obsessive with the things he’s passionate about?? his sleep schedule is garbage bc he’ll just stay awake until the wee hours of the morning painting or reading, etc. he’s so reckless like kid will do anything just for the thrill of it, esp cause trouble. i wouldn’t say he parties or goes out a lot but when he does it’s usually because he’s in a troublemaking mood and just wants to fly off the handle and stir the pot. he’s independent almost to a fault, he withdraws sometimes and won’t like ... open up to anyone or let himself be vulnerable which ... might be healthy for him probably adjlfskd

he’s not ALL bad though .. mostly but ... not all. like i said he’s very loyal, and when he loves with his WHOLE heart. he doesn’t do anything half-assed. he can be a good person to be around bc he’s generally positive and fun-loving!

he reads a lot and just hoards a lot of books, especially and MAINLY true crime. he’s really intro true crime and researching cases, etc. he loves horror movies too, but he’s a Big Scorpio Bitch so this is to be expected. he probably would’ve gone into psychology or criminology. despite being one of the most self-centered people to exist he’s very interested in the human brain!
