rewatching hxh is crazy like the foreshadowing is so good. i’m just as emotionally engaged as i was the first time watching but in a COMPLETELY different way bc it’s almost hard to watch through the sheer sense of foreboding you feel as gon learns more and gains more power. his recklessness was always taken quite seriously by the narrative and that’s clear on a first watch, but knowing exactly what happens and where that self-abandoning recklessness, that thrill-seeking, that bullheaded perfectionism (not to do everything perfectly but to do everything with perfect accordance to his own terms), and that childish willingness to disregard everyone else in pursuit of his own impulsive goals (thereby reinforcing his own worldview for better or worse) goes… the show is SCREAMING at you that this is all going to go horribly wrong and it’s so sinister in this weird offhanded way, like it’s sticking to shounen tropes just close enough that you definitely notice something off but don’t suspect it’ll snowball the way it does.

I think a lot of it is on us, actually. Just because he’s been in the position of disclosing exclusive sound bites from the Ricciardo camp before, we keep falling into the pitfalls of thinking whatever he says has more weight than simply just another F1 journalist doing the rounds of the usual podcasts.

Daniel and his team will only ever tell Nate something that they believe needs to get out. And as the fact-checker of Daniel nation (@blamemma) has said before, it’s going to be very important for the season ahead for us to remember that and to be very careful in discerning if something’s coming from the actual Daniel source or just Nate as a journalist speculating

“You struck the right word with balance because it’s obviously something that I also want to get enough time to myself,” Ricciardo said when asked by The Race if finding a balance was important to his 2023 decision.

Ricciardo wants a role that will help him “stay sharp” and time on the simulator that will help “keep my eye in”.

“Fortunately I feel like I’ve done enough to make this case a little unique and cater for it in a way – obviously it has to work on both side – but it has to sit well with me,” Ricciardo explained.

“It’s why I don’t want to just jump on the grid again next year, I don’t want to just to jump into something.

“I want to take this opportunity to make sure I get enough time for myself to feel the way I need to feel about the sport again.”
