interpreting your angles

the angles are four points in a natal chart that correspond with four stages of life. in a way, the angles represent four parts of the self, that intertwine and reconnect throughout life, often working in tandem. they function as two pairs of axes, with one (the ac-dc axis) looking at the concept of me vs. you; the other (the mc-ic axis), where you aim for vs. where you came from. click the links to read my interpretation of these placements through the signs 🩵

the ascendant is generally situated in the first house. it is all about selfhood, and so represents aspects of our personality, our impulses and reactions, some of our physical mannerisms and expression, and our perception of the world. the ascendant tells us a lot about ourselves, from our wants and needs, desires, fears, even something about our health. it shows us what we identify with, how we perceive ourselves and, to a degree, how others perceive us. the ascendant is a point that tells us about our identity; the descendant, its sister, tells us a lot about others in relation to ourselves. it shows us the traits we perhaps lack, or those that we express in an unhealthy manner. it shows us what we want and need from our partner, and interestingly, it represents what we reject in ourselves and what we reflect onto others. it shows us what is underneath the identity we project outwards.

☁️ personal example: i have a virgo rising, so have pisces on the descendant. i pride myself on being a neat and tidy, organised and mature individual. i study hard and read a lot, i am logical and sensible. underneath that, i have ADHD and grew up homeschooled in a chaotic environment. i am sensitive and intuitive, i have large gaps in my education and i am something of an artist at heart. my partner is a musician, and interestingly, a pisces. learning to balance these two sides of myself has helped me enormously in life, and brought me a lot of internal peace.

the midheaven is generally found in the tenth house. it is a little more nebulous than the ascendant, but it represents legacy, mastery, what we build over the course of our lives, what we aspire towards and what we become known for. it is traditionally associated with career too, especially the “peak” of our working lives, when we’ve reached our potential. for a lot of us, the midheaven is more tangible, and more of an active part of life, after our first saturn return (around age thirty). traits of the midheaven are things we have to learn and put hours and work into to gain. conversely, the nadir, or imum coeli, shows us what our childhood taught us. it shows us the internal experience of the situation we grew up in; how we made sense of it, what beliefs and habits we now carry with us, what we wished we had, what we needed. the imum coeli represents our experience of being nurtured, and how that experience impacted our ability to nurture ourselves as adults. it represents the small, fragile parts of ourselves that perhaps weren’t able to grow the way they should have.

☁️ personal example: i have a taurus midheaven, so have scorpio on the nadir. growing up i was very isolated, had controlling and emotionally unstable caregivers, and a grew up in a household where feelings were seen as weak and so were to be hidden. there was no trust either, with a lot of fighting for control. as an adult, i have a low self-worth and little ability to trust either myself or others. i can be emotionally chaotic and am preoccupied with perfection, often taking things to an extreme. that being said, i have a strong work ethic, am focused on building emotional and material safety for myself and my loved ones, and bond very closely when i do build that trust. i am attracted to warmth and comfort, and aspire to be spiritually and mentally rich.

so, now you hopefully know a little more about the angles, but… how do you interpret them in your chart? they can sometimes be interpreted as an extension of the angular houses, but this won’t always work out, and i find it can be a bit of an oversimplification. because while, for example, the fourth house and IC both rule over our childhood home, nurturing figures and sense of comfort, the fourth house is much more oriented to the present day, and to that physical area of life; while the IC is more focused on our internal experience of our childhood, and how that effects and impacts us today, out in the world. when i am reading a chart, i find it helpful to look at the angles first as two pairs, so i can understand the energies and issues they are bearing; then, i look at the angles as a cycle of AC-IC-DC-MC, so i can read them in “chronological order”. once i feel i have some understanding, i look at things like the point rulers, the contents and rulers of the houses involved, any aspects to the angles, etc., and start to fill in the details from there. it’s perhaps not the most straightforward method, but for me, i find it to be the most helpful route to gaining the amount of detail i want from a chart reading. the best method for you to use is the method that you find the most helpful, so experiment when reading, use your intuition and let the technical stuff guide that intuition :-)

a quick note on house systems… i use placidus because it’s what i find works best for me, so when i read a chart, the angles are the cusp of their respective houses. if, however, you use something like whole signs or equal houses as your house system of choice, then the angles can move around a lot more within the chart, adding an interesting extra layer to your interpretations. the angles can get a bit restless depending on your distance from the equator, too. these complexities are something i’d like to explore further in a future post if you’d be interested 🩵

I don’t know where to begin. Months have passed, and the feeling is still surreal. I don’t know how to recover from this experience—seeing my childhood dream flashback before my eyes.

 

Debut became my gateway to the world of Swiftie Lore. I vividly remember early 2007, the first time hearing your song on the radio, (TOMG) it was sad and broken but full of hope. That moment instantly became my core memory of entering your world: full of stories of heartbreaks, betrayals, and lies but, most importantly, how you're able to overcome and turn those into weapons to achieve dreams and aspirations and to be loved without any conditions.

 

Your performance of “Should’ve Said No” cements my determination to attend your concert one day, no matter what it takes. A concert I want to be in, with all your reveal, the guitars, singing in the rain, and the unstoppable headbanging, the unbreakable arc of your spines and the stare each pause and most specially the PEP talk each segment. Oh if only Friendster/Myspace could speak right now they’d tell the world the whole journey how I crave to see it live. Looking back at it, all those things I wish for came through unexpectedly, I DID.

 

Since then, I have been gatekeeping you like no other. Your exceptional talent and devotion to your fans have resonated so resoundingly that even critics, egoists, and skeptics have been unable to diminish the legacy you have forged. I love the piano, though I cannot play it, but I always pester my best friend to play me something whenever there’s a piano near her. And I’m a dancer, ballroom and contemporary.

I absolutely adore baking and cooking and can whip up recipes from anywhere in the world, though I’m not a huge fan of Asian cuisine. My favorite, I would say, is Italian.

I love children, and I’m the cool cousin of the family. If my younger brother was married, I’m pretty sure I would’ve been the cool aunt too. At the moment, I’m a cat mom, and I absolutely can’t wait to find someone and build a family with. I’m straight, so I’d love to be shipped with a male character.

firstly, ill direct you to my big ramble about him, which contains a lot of key details on what i like about him! all his dialogue is on his wiki page since theres not much of it, and you can also just find playthroughs (there are plenty of no commentary ones) if you want to see that whole segment of the game without playing to it!

secondly, since im being asked to elaborate…

he just has a lot of personality for his short appearance! hes different from a lot of other antagonists because he doesnt really have world conquering aspirations or “im going to kill everybody as revenge for x” or whatever, he just…. wants to enjoy himself. theres a sense that he thinks what he wants should also be fun for others, like he believes that, but even if that werent true he wouldnt really care because he doesnt see other life as being as sapient or “relevant” as himself, if you know what i mean.

also, hes canonically a fanboy of mega man. he specifically states that he loves mega mans fights in particular. he IDs him on sight. people dont mention that but its so funny like HELP????

like, he both comes off as a selfish and callous person but also doesnt feel as villainous as other characters, if only for his lack of real malice. ive compared him to “kid pouring water on an ant hill” and i stand by that. is it a little mean? yeah, maybe, but theres also not a real comprehension of the harm being caused when it happens because theres a failure to sympathize with something that feels so small to you.

plus theres the whole thing with the mu metal, which could very easily be expanded on. please expand on it. and the complete “l+ratio+fight your rival forever” he takes being blown up with. and what is he in regard to the other em beings? (personally, i headcanon him as an xm-ian. because. sirius xm radio. teehee)

basically i just think hes really funny and different as a villain for this series and i think there are a lot of directions you can take his character.

💖 What made you start writing?

Writing in general? I have been doing for so long I don’t even know. I remember we had to write stories in elementary school, and in like 4th grade I wrote this intense, super long story about an evil wizard who kidnapped the main character’s father…and then in 6th grade I wrote an even longer story about a prince whose entire family was killed and who had to flee across the Sahara desert with a talking parrot 😂 teachers were always telling me to stop turning in so many pages (but, a lot of them were nice about it 😊). I wrote a novel when I was a teenager (it was like, YA romance, aspiring John Green vibes) and I have continued writing into my adult life, though now most of my writing is weirder and more experimental (literary? who even knows). I’ve never NOT been a writer. In terms of writing fanfic—some of you know this, but I went through a bad breakup!!! and dove headfirst into my old Star Wars obsession!! and here we are 👏

🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?

OOF, so I know what everyone is thinking, but right now? The truthful answer is my reader character in My Very Soul. of course, it’s an x reader story, so she doesn’t really have any physically defining attributes, but I’ve found that it would be impossible to write a story as long as MVS without the protagonist having a fully formed personality of her own. and it’s a lot easier for me to write in her perspective than Anakin’s—I’ve been trying hard to figure out how to write in Anakin’s mind leading up to ROTS, and it’s hard. I’m struggling to write through the complicated mess his mind is becoming. If the reader character doesn’t count, my second choice is actually Obi-Wan. I feel like I understand him 😂 he’s sad and wise and snarky. I love it.

⌛ How long does it take you to write a fic, or a chapter?

I usually write a chapter in an evening—it takes me probably like, 2 hours? approximately. Sometimes I leave it and read through it the next day to improve the quality 😂 but it takes even more time to actually format the Tumblr/Ao3 post etc. For me, 2 hours is actually not that long to spend on like, 3-5k words. It’s something I do for fun without overthinking it. The problem these days has been getting that time to myself at the end of the day and having enough energy to produce. But I’m trying 😊❤️

Relaxed day with a lazy start and then a few hours spent with my grandad at the Carehome, catching up with him and talking about football, life and the memories! A bit of a tangent but…

It was recently his and my grandmas wedding anniversary and he was reminiscing about their love and how much he misses her since she passed. Reminiscing about their lives, how They met in school in their little village on outskirts of Newcastle and he knew early on that she was going to be his wife one day! Through the years, trials and tribulations and distance their love lasted, even when my grandad was in the army stationed in London and my grandma back at her parents home in the North East. My grandad sacrificed opportunities in life for my grandma, turning down a chance to play for Fulham Football Club (they were good and big back then) because he knew my grandma didn’t want to live and raise a family in London. Instead settling on a life in the North East, raising a family, having a touring caravan they used for holidays away, exploring the beautiful English costal towns and countryside! They had plans and aspirations for when my grandad retired, they were to sell the house and go travelling full time with their caravan but alas it was never to be. Even when my grandma started with dementia the love was clear and my grandad never wavered with his love, care and attention. Even on those last few days we sat round her bed waiting for her to pass, I could tell he loved her like the first day he met her.

Hearing him reminisce and welling up with tears, it made me thing that’s the kind of love that inspires me to find my person, like they found each other! They were never rich with money or luxury items but they were rich in love and memories! When it’s all said and done, that’s what matters in life, finding someone to share a life with🩵. I'm thankful I can still hear his stories and it's something I'll cherish always.

(This post went off on a tangent, I was just going to share about my day but spending time with my grandad, hearing his stories and reminiscing is a beautiful thing and it evokes emotions within me I want to share. Thank you if you took the time to read this and I hope it inspires you to love that someone special in your life and make those memories count.)

Aww, thank you!! I really appreciate this <3. I'm trying my best to keep myself positive and confident, and lift myself up, and the effort is paying off. I actually have been journaling, both about my trauma and general self discovery stuff, and reading a self help book called "everything is figureoutable" for a while now, and I think that's taught me a lot of methods that i've been able to use as tools. Maybe that'd help you too?

Right now my focus is on getting to know myself, so I've been exposing myself to lots of different things and taking notes on how they effect me, and what thoughts it brings to mind. I have a checklist of self discovery goals I want to meet: things like "Engage with philosophy (aka watch a lot of philosophy videos and video essays) to Identify three broad principles I believe in (step two: apply to politics, so I can understand where I sit on issues like economics, government, etc)" and "Identify my greatest fears (step two: search for common threads or "themes" between fears)". Every time I write something down or check something off, I feel more comfortable in my own skin (metaphorically and literally) and more like I know who I am and what I want.

Ofc truama journaling helps too, lol. Instead of just writing down what happened to me I've been writing down the negative beliefs that it left me with, crossing them out, and arguing against them (the book told me to do this, actually!). It's given me HUGE improvements in healing and recovery!!! Like, it's crazy how fast this is working for me- of course not everything works the same for everyone, and healing isn't linear- but still like. damn!!

And...like, I AM having fun. I wasn't at first but doing this work on myself has made me ABLE to have fun in a way I couldn't before. It's something to appreciate and look forward to, feeling myself get happier and just, enjoying things more.

🖤💚 I loooove Donald and Duck. I love their playful back and forth, and I think for all his teasing, Donald is quite enamored with Duck's fussiness and practicality. It makes him an easy target for his teasing, but really it comes from him being in love and dumb about it. Duck is also the only one who can reign in Donald's temper, and get the two brothers to stop arguing. Mostly because Donald won't listen to anyone else.

My partner and I have a human au and in it Duck is the manager of a quaint little general store (the kind that sells organic and fancy stuff, some luxury goods and fresh produce marked up really high, that sort of thing), and next door is a hardware store manned by Donald and Douglas. They share a breakroom. Donald's favorite pass time is taking drinks and snacks from the general store without asking, and playing with rubber ducks and putting them around the store for Duck to find. Sometimes Duck will hear incessant quaking coming from the break room, and he'll charge in to yell at him only to stop short because Donald is smiling HUGE at him, turning to his brother to be like "See I tol' yoo Douggie I speak 'is language! That's 'is matin' call, that is." And Duck's shoots back with a "YOU OWE ME M O N E Y!" Don't worry. Duck will just go take it from the cash register in the hardware store later. With a little note detailing all the things he knows he took.

For all his teasing, Donald really loves him, and that scares him. Duck aspires to what he believes to be bigger and better things with his life, dreams he won't stop chasing. And that makes Donald scared he'll leave him behind. What's wrong with what they have now? Some would argue it's pretty good...

💚💙 This leads into my next ship, but it's really just an unrequited, quite surface-level thing; Duck and Edward. I won't say too much since it's in my fic, but Duck rather likes his old friend. And it makes him and James scowl at each other all the more. But of course, it's not to be. Edward cares for him, but not in the way Duck might want (or at least, THINKS he wants, or really DOESN'T). It's all very confusing when you don't even believe engines should or CAN love and what purpose does love have when you're MADE to work. There's the right way of doing things, and the wrong way...

💙💚 Another ship I dabble in is Gordon and Henry, though I'm not as mentally ill about them as I am with James and Edward. I like the complexity that comes with Henry having been designed as a bootleg Gresly to start, only to be totally overhauled, and WOW that must have been well and truly fucked. You would think there would be some mockery or resentment there, but Gordon doesn't hold it to him. Deep down, I think he had compassion for him that he couldn't really express because he's so fucking emotionally stunted and you gotta keep up appearances. And we see that compassion in It's Good to Be Gordon. He felt so awful to have made Henry feel worse that nothing else mattered.

I've been reading A New Way of Life, and I adore how the author characterizes their relationship. Being there for an anxious, panicky partner doesn't always have to be gentle and saccharine. Gordon grounds Henry in a way only HE can, not through words and coddling, but with a big, firm hand to squeeze and hold him. And that tells Henry he isn't alone. That he's got him. It pulls him back, and I really like that for them. Gordon is an anchor, and Henry needs a pretty big anchor.

So yeah, I like that for them! And I'm just as susceptible to big men being dumb and in love and finding solace where they might not find it anywhere else because big men have big problems or whatever.

💚🩵 this next ship is like, I mean, okay. It comes with a disclaimer. I really like Thomas and Percy, but NOT in the traditional romantic sense. I mean there's really not much romantic to me about it, but that's also why I think it's as sweet and funny as it is. They're best friends that trip each other up and fight over the Xbox, and they really wouldn't want to be with anyone else. Thomas can't even think of girls (who terrify him anyway) because he just wants to go hang out with Percy. I guess I see it as kind of crack ship, and that's why I love it. As humans they would hold hands and get so red and spooked over it that they never really do anything else WHEEZE. And as engines well, they spend all their time together, that's enough for them.

Most of what I like about them is in our human au, and it's insane. They're the worst. Percy waking up Thomas in the middle of the night because he doesn't sleep and he's looking for his vape. "Where's my vape Thomas, have you seen it, come on I think you're lying on it roll over. Sorry! Thomas. Thomas where's your vape can I use your vape what flavour is it. Thomas-" (my partner is so fucking smart and funny for this)

I'm sure I'll come up with more as I go along. Like I really want to find someone for Emily, I like her as a headstrong Scot so very impatient and so very very right about everything bossing people around WHEEZE. She's the worst ❤️🥺🤩 but also really kind, and the only one practical enough to actually go talk to Toby when everyone was very happy to just believe he was being scrapped (even Edward which is SO funny and cute to me it kills me). I think she'd make someone very happy. I'm open to suggestions! Very susceptible to good marketing if you know what I mean 😏
