Mr Qi is a pretty funky guy.
His skin is blue, he owns a casino and his clothes shine like the night sky.
He also happens to have continual surveillance on every person in Stardew Valley, several underground hideouts and an advanced knowledge of magic.
I've been wanting to make a post about him for a little while but I kept on putting it off
UNTIL TODAY.
“I was born an ordinary boy, but I made a decision early in life that I would become extraordinary.”
We know that Mr Qi was probably born human, as he does say it himself. He also shares many human features, such as the nose, mouth and ears. His eyes? Well, perhaps its best the glasses stay on. There is a very popular theory that Grandpa is a ghost, and it does kind of fit. I kind of agree with it, but it could go so much deeper.
Mr Qi, as far as we have seen, does not have any magical abilities. There are several other powerful creatures in Stardew, such as the Shadow People, Rasmodius, Fairies, the Witch and more. They all have their own magic system, and are all powerful to some degree. Mr Qi on the other hand, seems to only have the strength of his will and the determination to fight.
He appears to behave like the Farmer, instead of accepting and becoming part of the magic, he harnesses it for his own benefit, reaping it's rewards. He almost certainly uses warp totems and obelisks. The iridium snake milk fortifying the Farmer. Imagine how many times he's drunk it for himself? The unique properties of the golden walnuts. What has he traded in return for power?
But it's not the magic that makes him so much more unique, so much more threatening than any other being in Stardew Valley.
It's the sheer amount of knowledge that he contains, on everyone.
Your steps, your gifts, your friends. He watches everything closely because the best way to keep yourself at the top is to moniter those beneath you. And the best way to keep them from turning on you is to befriend them. No amount of violence will ever stop the next willy-nilly hero from knocking on your doorstep to take your crown, but if you knight them and make them your willing servant, they will bow before your throne not even aware that there is one.
But perhaps there's a method to the madness. Order to the chaos. Mr Qi is not a vengefull dictator, but a quiet presence, working behind the scenes to keep the curtain from falling. Who knows how many threats have been countered, the lives that don't even know they were saved? It must be lonely to be so different.
I wonder if that's why he sent the chests out to the mineshaft. The golden walnuts on ginger island. The random quests. He wants to find people like him, bold and determined enough to seek beyond the regular. Grandpa found him. And then the Farmer. How long has he waited for someone else like him to emerge?
There are many different ghosts in stardew, some that lurk in the mines, the ones chained to the skull Caverns, and some like Grandpa, that return from the beyond...
But Mr Qi is different. Stuck in a limbo, not dead, not quite alive. A corpereal form hiding a decayed soul, traded away in exchange for the power to shape the real world. But why doesn't he leave? Perhaps his wait is over, and he's found a successor, someone that can take over the rigorous job of ensuring the world doesn't fall into chaos.
And perhaps the Farmer is the right person for the job.

It is a beautiful day, and you are a horrible research transport vessel. Things are progressing as normal (i.e. it's boring) when a SecUnit pings you, lies right to your metaphorical face, and then tries to bribe you with human media to give it a ride. This is as unexpected as it is unprecedented, and the sheer nerve of it is really to be admired. There's no protocol to this, so what should you do?
Now, this is against a bunch of rules, and could be dangerous if you weren't so impressive and incredible, and you're technically an employee (and can probably rewrite the Univeristy charter at will (until someone notices and puts it back)) so those rules are for other entities.
So, what you should do is allow the rogue SecUnit with a broken governor module and a sketchy story aboard. If you check the files it dumps and find zero (0) malware (which is confusing), and it doesn't even try to trash the place or lay in wait to ambush a crew member, then you've got a good candidate!
Next, what you're going to want to do is absolutely nothing. Just watch it patrol your halls until it's time to leave. Continue staring at it while you're undergoing embarkment procedures. Maybe analyze it a little (you've got plenty of processing power to spare) when it finally sits down and starts watching media. Allow it to settle in and get comfortable while you stare at it and get further and further from port.
Now that you two are alone (intimacy is key!) and you've determined that watching media is all the SecUnit is going to do, it's time to make contact! Make sure to open by telling it it's only survived due to dumb luck, and letting it know you could melt its brain into putty. This starter will work to develop conversation naturally and smoothly, just like you've seen the humans do, and it will be smooth sailing from there!

I got a really tough question.
What’s your favorite Twst event of ALL TIME?
I like Harveston
this truly is the hardest question. :( but after much consideration, I think Endless Halloween Night wins out for me, because it's nonstop Characters Being Silly the whole way through. the whole thing is just lots of these little dorks having the most ridiculous interactions, which is always my favorite! and of course the big twist is SO delightfully stupid and doubles down SO hard that it becomes AMAZING and I 100% unironically adore it. AND it's Halloween! everyone is in their cute little costumes and having a spooky adventure! it's great!
however, I am ALSO a big fan of the Harveston event! how can I not be! everyone is wearing comfy winter outfits and getting along really weirdly well with Epel's grandma and he's getting a little worried about that! my terrible loud son sews a plush squirrel and then gives it a silly little nickname and refuses to leave it behind when it breaks! the ending shot with the sled! I LOVE IT.
obviously we need the best of both worlds now

warlock wizard Wally scribbles... Thinkings! oh and a bonus bard-ish Barnabys in the corner for flavor
outfit ramblings:
first of all that is a Terrible rendition of what Home looks like in my head. i just needed to fill empty space </3
the staff was the toughest part honestly. bc it Had to be paintbrush-themed, but then halfway through scribbling i was like "oh shit. there are only so many ways to draw a paintbrush-wizard-staff and Weevmo already hit it out of the park." so if you're seeing similarities! you're right! i tried to make it as different as i could! there is Inspiration from their marvelous design, however accidental or subconscious! Apologies!
he gets a pointed hood instead of a hat because a) it looks great on him! and b) it has less of a chance of messing up his hair! also c) it helps muddle the difference between Wizard and Warlock. typically hoods have evil/duplicitous connotation - blur the lines! i want his long gloves and forearm wraps to have the same vibe. his neckerchief is a big help in hiding Home's seal!
his layered (loosely apple-themed) capelet (which the hood is attached to) has a nice high collar & hides the details of his loose shirt - eye embroidery! and some flowers on the shoulders but yk, mostly eyes. on one side of the shirt buttons has open eyes, the other side they're closed! there's also one big eye on his back!
his belt buckle is two halves of an apple! he wears tall thigh-high boots w/ low heels to feel Taller! he has a book-holster hooked to the back of his belt, which holds his grimoire! and he has a lil thigh-bag that has been magicked to be Bottomless and warps size! he can fit pretty much anything in there! canvases! paint! apples!
his half-skirt thing (idk what the word for it is!) is really plush, like a quilt - his capelet is the same fabric. soft, cozy. sometimes he'll use the skirt thing as a blanket in a pinch, or as a picnic placemat!
is his outfit a little Complicated? is it annoying to replicate? yes and yes. but im a maximalist at heart and Nothing But The Best for the blorbo <3 layers my beloved <3
