Do you mean casting or just a comparison?

If we're talking about comparison, then the real-life celebraty couple I mostly envision when thinking of OdyPen is Zendaya & Tom Holland.

And yes, I know the whole thing about them being in Christopher Nolan's new Odyssey movie (though I don't know who they are being cast as).

Pushing THAT aside for the moment, let me give you my reasons!

For one, they both (appear to) have a very healthy and fun, respecting relationship!

Second, I am of the firm belief that Penny is AT LEAST a couple inches taller than Ody. No one, not even the great Mr. Jalapeño himself can convince me otherwise! And, like the celebrity duo, neither of them care. Maybe, MAYBE Penny was a biiiiit self-concious of her height in the beginning, but if that were the case Ody assured her she had nothing to he ashamed about (and anyone who did comment about it in a derogatory way would be subject to quite a few schemes and plots).

Third, look me in the eye and tell me Ody wouldn't choose to be a house husband in modern day. Penny's the breadwinner and Ody is just happy being with his gorgeous and accomplished wife (not to mention he's extra happy he gets to spend extra time with Tele).

Finally, and this is the most important one...

I know literally no other celebrity couple.

LOOK! I am an avid anime and musical enjoyer. I barely watch IRL content and am horrible at remembering faces I don't look at five days of the week! The only reason I know about Zendaya and Tom (other than I think they're pretty cute) is that I am a HUGE enjoyer of the Spiderman franchise.

Now that ppl are talking again about how his silhouette from the trailer doesn't match the pre-corruption design we were showed in game (picture bellow not mine), it's relevant, sooo...

My current theory is that the way we've been shown his backstory has been a little bit misinterpreted by many fans

The main thing is, the whole "Bored, I'm so bored" cutscene was specifically what Golden Cheese saw after looking at his painting. In his temple. His own place of residence.

How I'm interpreting it is that this is what he wanted people to see. To further push his image as the ruthless Great Destroyer, anyone who saw that painting would see the scene telling them that he destroyed it all just bc he felt like it

But both his iddle voice line ("the first kingdom I..." ) and what Golden Cheese says later imply that there's something more to the story

He couldn't protect his civilization, so like a child throwing a tantrum, he destroyed any remains of it. It wasn't JUST boredom, it was his negligence, incompetence, and his other flaws that caused the fall

But that's not the story he would ever want to show you.

So, going that route, it's possible that this what we've been shown through the painting is not actually his pre-corruption form - just the image he would to show any people who got too curious about his past and started snooping around. Especially since it's SUPER similar to how he looks right now, just kind of, "glammed up", yk?same thing as normal, but in more ceremonial attire than on the daily and obviously shown as super powerful, with even more weapons than usual. It seems like such an obvious idealized depiction, meant to inspire awe and fear in his subjects.

It's completely possible that they just chucked the designs from the trailer into the void. Yup. That's likely what happened at least partly

But still, idk I think it's funny for him to keep a painting telling his own tragic backstory in his own temple (that's technically currently like his house) if he didn't like what it was showing, so I do think it's possible that he tampered with it.

After all, he DOES have close ties with the Beast of Deceit, so who says he couldn't pick up a trick or two from his book

When talking about Boothill's drink order in 2.6, like. Hoyo could have just glossed it over and described it as "a few" or "several" drinks. They didn't bother to program in the actual glasses or anything- it's not like any of us were gonna count them and notice if they put in the wrong amount.

But they specifically chose the number seven, and if it IS just coincidence, it is a very very fun one.

Hsr is also known to make tarot card references- we had the online event shortly before Penacony's release, I'm pretty sure there's at least a couple simulated universe occurrences and a curio, and then Black Swan's Everything.

The Seven of Cups is a card about dreams and making choices when you have multiple options it front of you. It represents resisting self-deception and false dreams, and not letting yourself be charmed by hallucinations. It is a warning to carefully consider what is real vs what is not, which is very important in Penacony as a whole, being the land of sweet dreams, and it becomes relevant to Boothill later, when Primon starts to fuck with his head.

It can also represent someone who is "deep in their cups," which is a more polite way to refer to someone who uses alcohol as a coping mechanism to an unhealthy amount.

I hate that this could be a serious comment on Boothill being an alcoholic to cope with how much horrifying trauma he's experienced...and I have to discuss it looking at Primon's ridiculous fucking face fjkdslajldk

The overall message of the card is to stand fast, keep a clear head, and make your decision. Which suits Boothill beautifully even outside of this patch, since he is the very picture of ruthlessness and straightforwardness- he is able to see that bright clear line between action and result, and he follows it doggedly! Everything he does, he does wholeheartedly and decisively! And we see it especially well when he fights through the partial regression Primon leads him into!

Straight and clear and sure as a bullet, baby!!!

Won't lie, this whole chapter is just generally really cathartic. From Shima showing his feelings towards Mitsumi enough to be picked up on (and actually understanding himself what Kanechika is getting at) to opening up about his acting career. He's never been so open about his past as he is now. Historically, he just lets it go unspoken so that only those who were there at the time have any idea. And even then, the others may know the *events* but that doesn't mean they know what Shima thought or felt at the time.

It sounds like Shima was in a bad place already when the whole drinking incident took place, captured in an anxiety cycle he had no way of breaking out of. And the drinking incident has always been spoken of as this black mark upon all involved (understandably so, especially for Ririka), but knowing that Shima was at rock bottom at the time, knowing that he now wants to speak to the person "at fault", I do wonder.

For all that the incident was a black mark, it sounds like Shima was at his breaking point by this stage. And the incident let him "get out". It didn't resolve the underlying issues and saddled both him and Ririka with some brand-new ones, but! If not this way, what was his escape? It would have been a full-on breakdown in some way or another, most likely.

So it'll be really interesting to see how Shima views it in hindsight now that he's finally in a place to process his feelings about back then

Hello! I just discovered your blog and I immediately became captivated by your webcomic, but I'm unsure where to read all of it. I know it's on Webtoons, but I can see it hasn't been updated for a while, and you still post about it.

Glad you found me and are enjoying my comic!

It's only on webtoons, and the story is not complete yet! We're 2/3 of the way through right now. It's currently on hiatus, and it's scheduled to come back in about 2 months!

I'll explain why it's been so long if you're curious, but also for my followers who might also be wondering about it under the cut. Sorry, it's pretty much just me complaining haha

I took a month off I took 2 months to get the books printed I took a month to prepare my next comic and I took 2 months to write the rest of the series (I knew the character arcs I wanted, but not the time periods or mysteries!!!) I've been working on actual episodes since then

I had to take some time off because of some pretty extreme burnout due to the sheer amount of work it was to draw over 800 pages and write 6 complete stories in a year and a half... I was getting sick almost weekly due to the overwork, it was really really bad honestly. I was having to work 60+ hours every week just to keep up...

The nature of the comic itself is also difficult... Each of the arcs is a complete, self contained story which can be read (ideally) without context, and my arcs need to be about 10-13 episodes each... And since I have an exact number of episodes to work with, it's even harder.

It takes a ton of planning and a ton of refinement, and working week to week with no breaks I was forced to put out second or even first drafts, so I just wasn't happy with the work I was doing... And to do that for the rest of the series? I wouldn't be proud of the work I did.

Plus... To be entirely honest, webtoon has treated me quite badly IN MY OPINION... They deprioritized me before I launched (I had to beg for more promotion, I'm not exaggerating), they outright denied me the opportunity to even ask for a raise, I don't make any money on fast pass and they pay me less than my partner makes working at trader joes. My first editor left me completely hanging, my second editor (who I loved) was fired... And they told me I wouldn't get a third season before my first season even finished. So it was just repeatedly completely demoralizing.

I'm sorry it has taken so long, it'll have been 10 months by the time I come back. But I realized... I won't get promotion either way. I won't get more episodes either way. I won't get more money either way. So to finish everything, to make it feel good, to make it something I'm proud of, I chose to take longer to make it better.

I am fully aware I will lose a significant amount of my readership for this and it might genuinely affect my career moving forward. But it's what I had to do! So I'm sticking to my guns on it, and I'm confident long term it'll be worth it. It never could have been this good if I didn't take this much time.

and it's like i always say: there's no story if the mc isn't going through some sort of trauma the entire time. or at least it would be a hella boring story if they weren't
