Inheritance Cycle Characters and their Roles in the Friend Group.

(Group One: Eragon, Arya, Orik, Nasuada)

Nasuada:

Nasuada is the leader. She is often the one to take initiative and keep everyone in line and in order. She is the first to analyze a situation and find a way out, around, or through. She is naturally inclined to be the one to step forward and give orders and direct a situation accordingly, though obviously there are times where she must lose and regain power and respect in an ongoing seesaw of politics and friendship. She sometimes gets caught up in her work and neglects relationships, but is overall a loyal friend and a smart and powerful ally. She is kind at heart, though her duties do not always allow her freedom to show it.

Orik:

Orik is rather caught in a net of three main roles. He can be the comedian and he can be social when the situation requires or allows. However, he knows when the situation requires a strong will and a good leader, and will act just as such whenever circumstances request it. He is loyal, stubborn, humorous, and occasionally hot-headed, though he tries to work this to his advantage properly.

Arya:

Arya is the realist and the outwardly level-headed, logical friend. She can be a little withdrawn at times and a bit distanced from both her more personal thoughts and those of others, but she is intelligent and a good companion to have in a stressful, dangerous, or otherwise strained environment.

Eragon:

Eragon is—sometimes reluctantly—the empath. He is forced into positions of leadership and power, but would really prefer to sit and brush the horses or watch the birds or just share company with a close friend. He is the one typically paying attention to others and how they might feel at any given time, well-attuned to each of his friends and their individual signals and needs. He is impulsive and a bit scatter-brained, but smarter than often perceived, and a man of good intentions. However, someone should really check in on his mental health for once…

Thoughts on episode 54 because I am very normal about the character development of this show.

Spoilers for FMA Brotherhood. Up to episode 54, at least.

The parallels between Mustang and Scar.

The fact Scar had his whole family, his nation, his culture, taken away from him and he chose violence and retribution and destruction over trying to help what remained of his community.

The fact Mustang had his friend taken away, had to watch this man who cared so deeply get killed and see the aftermath for his family. How it must've felt to slowly realize that he did that same thing to scar and so many other innocent people to further fuel a corrupt web of lies that benefits no one but the ones weaving it. The guilt. The anger. How he wanted so badly to take it out on something, on someone, just like Scar did.

Except Scar had been changed too. Riza sees this. Riza has had to live with this guilt for a fucking *while* and I mean they all have to an extent, but none of the other military understand the gravity of the situation like she does. They can all tune it out, believe that they're doing this for their country or for the greater good, but she doesn't have that luxury . Her tattoo directly resulted in the sheer power used as violence against so many innocent people.

You know who ELSE has a tattoo that represents the hard work of a family member in the name of innovation that ultimately became a weapon never meant to be wielded?

SCAR. SCAR DOES.

He resorted to blind carnage as well. He killed off good men, people with families, with deeper aspects to them besides their part in the war, and ultimately many, many innocent people, whose deaths impacted the lives of those around them and devastated them as much as his own family's. And you know what??

He was RIGHT to be angry at the government.

He was RIGHT to be angry at the military.

That doesn't mean he had the right to blindly kill anyone in uniform. It's an absolutely brilliant juxtaposition between two extreme sides of the same coin. Such a poignant commentary on military vs terrorist ideals and how they're both just inherently wrong and dehumanizing to the very people they stand for, but both refusing to take responsibility for their wrongdoings.

Until Scar realizes how his idea of revenge affected other people, innocent people just like him, just like his family, just like the life of the child that sparked the fucking war. And he steps back. Slowly, he becomes more willing to work together, more aware of what is actually behind this, more patient with the people he once swore revenge on. Because with military, even in real life, there's always like several degrees of separation between the people who control the narrative and control the war from the conference rooms and the people who are ordered to pull the trigger. That doesn't mean he isn't allowed to be angry at the ones behind the gun, it's just that he should be more worried about the people behind the battlefield. God, this show's politics and depictions of war are so realistic and just dead on. I could talk about it for hours.

Mustang almost went down that same path of misdirected retribution. He was so close it was literally UNDER HIS FOOT. But seeing how this affected Scar, how it affected Hughes and his fellow soldiers and Al and Ed and how it affected RIZA. Seeing how she was willing to kill herself just so *his own* destructive powers could die with her.

How Envy was just a byproduct. He was always depicted as this scary, blood-shedding, horrific creature of carnage, which *is* what he's supposed to represent, but I feel like in the moment he realized just how small Envy really was, he feels for a brief moment what it was like for Scar to learn that. It was pointless to take all his anger out on the person who was created specifically to BE a weapon - just a weapon - and nothing more. Who was created to act as a blind, uncaring soldier in a war that they don't even really have the ability to comprehend. That he should save his anger for the system that created him, the system that blinded him to the truth and never let him learn empathy. Never let him be a person Just like the dehumanization of war.

It doesn't help anyone to withhold mercy from the one who executed another's will. It would be just like Scar killing soldiers, it does NOTHING about the real issue and so he'll save it for the real man behind the slaughter.

And Jesus envy as a deconstruction of that system. Brilliant. I love it. Being so confused by the mindset of the people on the opposing side and rather than confronting the fact that maybe he was on the wrong side this whole time and confronting his humanity (philosopher's stone) and trying to remedy himself like Scar and all the other State Alchemists that fought the Ishvalan War he kills himself (also with the philosopher's stone) out of fear and a warped sense of honor and loyalty to a cause he doesn't even grasp.

That could've been Riza. That would've been her if Mustang decided to go through with killing Envy himself. If he chose selfish retribution over those affected by tragedy and government corruption. But it wasn't.

He chose to focus on the bigger picture of who's at fault instead of blindly killing out of rage.

And that is the ideal leader.

Because a tyrannical, angry leader stuck in the past is a horrible leader. It's just as bad as a cold blooded murderer, and eventually, they'll become the very thing that broke them.

He would've perpetuated the cycle.

He came **so close** to perpetuating the cycle that it's honestly terrifying.

But he didn't.

The character growth showcased here is *masterful.*

I could go on but I'd just repeat myself, I'm like a dog chasing it's tail.

Inject it into my ***veins***.

Not just the one you see at the end of the series, however. No, I like every single iteration of him.

The one we see at the start of the series, flippantly talking to his superior, love that for you king.

The dejected one from the very start of his and Al's adventures? I'd let him sob into my arms if he needed to!

And I can't forget about Alphonse, my 2nd (so sorry, man) FMA crush.

A big suit of armor gingerly petting a small cat, what's not to love about that?

And Al's so patient too, something I admire about him.

First off, no need to apologize for the long post—this level of passion is what I live for! The Elric brothers really are something special.

Edward is such a gem, no matter what phase he’s in, he’s impossible not to love! And honestly, I’d let him cry into my arms too. He’s earned it!

And Alphonse? Absolute sweetheart. A big suit of armor petting a tiny cat is super wholesome. His patience and kindness are so admirable, especially considering everything he’s been through.

The Elric brothers deserve all the love!

Day 11: Noise

Ed x Winry | Nim's Lovely Tickletober

Word Count: 500

Exhaustion! Ed couldn't help but think of the many hardships he had gone through until this day. He could now conclude that life most likely wanted to test him that badly to prepare him for this most important thing. Parenthood.

"Finally they are sleeping!" Ed whined. Winry let out a sigh too and snuggled against him.

"I wanna sleep too," she mumbled tiredly. She nuzzled his chest, and Ed turned his head and planted a kiss on her cheek.

With his arms resting behind his head, he stared up at the ceiling. "Winry, you're a great mother," he said. He heard her chuckle.

"Where did that come from?"

"I just think so," Ed said with a smile. Winry giggled, and Ed yelped when she poked his underarm all of a sudden.

"You make a great dad too, you know that?"

"Yehehes," Ed giggled, bringing his hand up to cover up the spot she just touched. Winry lifted her head and hummed.

"You know, it's been a while," she said.

Ed blinked and he felt a blush making its way to his cheeks. Oh...? "Since... what?"

"Hmm.... since I tickled you like this!" Suddenly Winry no longer seemed sleepy at all as she pounced on him and tickled his exposed armpits with five wiggling fingers on each side. Ed's arms immediately went down and he howled hysterically.

"Hohoho-wait Wihihinry! Cahhareful- ahahah! K-keep it dohohown!" he cackled. Winry snickered.

"Keep it down? You're telling me? You're the one making noise here, sweetie," she teased. Oh this little...! Turned out she totally knew that between them, it was Ed who dreaded it the most if the children would wake up again.

"Y-you're ehehevil! Puhuhure ehehevil! Wihihinry aaaah nonono!" After struggling and flailing for a moment, Ed considered two options: cover up his mouth and muffle whatever noise he would continue to make and keep suffering from Winry's merciless tickle attack, or... try to make it stop as soon a possible, with the risk of making more noise...

"Wihihinry not thehehere!"

"I won't stop, darling!"

Ah. Noise it was then. This was war.

"I just missed my little Ed's- EYAH!" Winry shrieked when Ed grabbed both her sides and squeezed. Winry shook with hysterical giggles, but she continued to tickle Ed like the crazy persistent woman she was.

Ed couldn't believe she was so mean to go after all of his worst spots. Well...

"EHEHED!" Winry cried when Ed attacked her hips.

"Wihihinry!" Ed whined back, still getting tickled pretty badly himself. His wife made a fair opponent, maybe even a stronger one than his brother Al.

"I wohohon't lohohose!"

"Juhuhust you wahahait!"

Both their laughing voices were bound to reach the children soon, and before they could consider this, the door opened and they both came storming in, squealing and giggling cheerfully.

"Tickle fight tickle fight!" they chanted.

"Oh nooo," Winry whined, but if they were doomed already anyway, Ed wasn't going to end this without making her pay for starting this.

"Mommy is very ticklish, let's get her!"

"NO Ed- guys- nohohooooo!" Winry's giggles and pleas were not like noise but like music to Ed's ears, and for the next few minutes he gladly teamed up with the children to tickle Winry mercilessly!

I think the reason I like the 5 Eccentrics so much is that it's just such a good depiction of the….variety of friendship. Because it was a group literally created to be destroyed. It was, in other words, a forced union of 5 people who might have never or barely interacted. Yet even with that, even knowing that, they all chose to have a meaningful friendship with each other - they chose to be friends and remain friends even if their union was forced, even if the very reason that they met was to be taken down. It's almost the arranged marriage trope but it wouldn't work as well like marriage because it really isn't that. It's like the family system (brought together by chance and a common identity) but it's still different. Because they didn't HAVE to be friends even if sharing the same label, because they didn't have to keep sticking around each other and become a real family. They chose to be friends in spite of all odds, chose to be grateful even amidst their destruction, and forged a precious bond that not even their predetermined fall could break and in this essay I will -
