18. what hair products do you use? I currently use a bar shampoo that @thegracelane bought me as a belated birthday gift, and Overtone Vibrant Purple Daily Conditioner (which I don't use daily; I wash my hair about once a week). Herbal Essences Mango & Aloe Curl Defining Cream after I've washed my hair. When I color my hair purple I use a couple different shades of purple/violet/plum Punky Colour. Occasionally I'll use volumizing powder or dry shampoo on my roots so I can go another day or two before washing, but that's about it. I'm a fairly low-maintenance person when it comes to hair. Mostly I either wear my hair up or I let it do what it wants.

37. someone in your life, other than a relative, you’ve known for 10+ years? My husband probably counts as a relative, no? :P But yeah, I have many people in my life I've known more than 10 years! My best friend Erin I've known since we met in high school, more than 30 years ago now. I have a group of good friends from when Annalie was little and we lived in San Diego, most of whom I still talk to regularly. Heck, I've been on tumblr for 12 years now and definitely have mutuals who I've known for that whole time. Oula, I've known YOU for, what, probably nearly nine years now!? 😮😄

who is/are your comfort character(s)?

(Gonna go with TV for this, for simplicity's sake.)

I have to really think about this. Because my immediate answer was "oh, Ted and Rebecca from Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso." But I don't think that's quite true?! There are things about both characters that I find comforting to think about, and I suppose there's something inherently comforting about characters who are good humans who happen to be insanely attractive and interesting?! But in general the cast of Ted Lasso aren't characters who are just there to be solid and comforting and take up a consistent little portion of my brain, always there for me. Probably because my fandom obsession feels too dynamic for that.

Within Ted Lasso, I think Beard might *actually* be my comfort character. Even though I have written many fucked-up things about him, I find thinking about him and writing about him and imagining little scenarios for him extremely comforting.

Comfort characters in a more traditional sense (according to my brain's arbitrary definitions): Barbara Howard from Abbott Elementary, every single person in Derry Girls, Frankie Bergstein from Grace and Frankie.

18. what hair products do you use?

My hair situation is sooooo basic?! I have very straight thick hair, and although I have more sproingy weird flyaway bits than I'd like as I go grey and my hair changes texture, I literally just use shampoo and conditioner and brush it. I usually don't even dry it with a hair dryer. I have no patience for hair stuff. I've been thinking about changing my hair a bit with my next cut, but who knows!?

26. a scenario that you’ve replayed multiple times?

So many: embarrassing things I wish had gone differently, scenes from stories I'm writing (this is dangerous because if I over-imagine it, it's too hard for me to write), aspirational things that I want to happen. I can't think of a great example to write out, but my brain is full of reruns.

I’ve always seen some tag memes on people’s (non-followers and non-mutuals) blogs that I always felt were cool but always felt weird about taking (IDKY), but today I am tired, and I’m thinking why not?

(edit: I just realized you asked for 1 and 7, not 17, but I already answered those here and here, so I'm just leaving my answer for 17 in this post 😅) 17. are you farsighted or nearsighted? I do use old-person reading glasses, especially when I'm tired, so I guess that technically means I'm a little farsighted. But at my last eye exam I still had 20/20 vision otherwise.

20. do you say soda or pop? I grew up calling it pop! To me as a kid, 'soda' meant baking soda. But as an adult I've switched to calling a fizzy soft drink 'soda' because I've mostly lived in places where, if you call it 'pop', you will get confused looks and no one knows what you're talking about.

3. do you leave the window open at night?

I don't. Too bright outside. Goshdiddlydangdarned light pollution. Also: apartment building, close enough to a road, urban noises stress rather than lull me. As a kid I did, though. I have fond memories of falling asleep to the rustle of aspen leaves outside my window, the scent of lilacs drifting in, the chirruping of cricketsong lulling me to dreams

I have a family member who recently moved into like. The literal woods. I slept with the window open when I visited over summer. FANTASTIC!!!! Waking up to sunrise and mountain morning breezes. <3 But they've ruined it by installing an INCREDIBLY BRIGHT, way overactive motion detector. It's like the Angel Gabriel visiting me every ten minutes. I struggled to get rest the last time I visited until we grabbed a bed sheet and placed it over my window as an extra curtain to block out the lights. I'll never be able to sleep with the window open again there. Please mourn with me. This is awful.

29. how do you like your shower water?

hot but not scalding. And I want the shower water to be steady (not wimpy, barely trickling) but smoothly shooting out. And smooth in sensation, not hard or rough!!! None of those globs of water or fancy patterns on my back. Give me a normal stream of water.

okay for some backstory julien is a rookie officer grunt in earth's foremost space army -- she's the lowest rung that someone who voluntarily joined could be. her greatest failure at this point is not placing any hire in the ranks to start, but honestly it's not affecting her that much, or at least she's putting on a cheerful face. there are people with plenty more life experience who rank equal to her, so it should all be fine! her direct superior has a head on his shoulders, it's all fine :)

wound: How does your OC handle being wounded? Are their wounds mostly physical? Mental? Emotional? What’s the worst wound your OC has ever experienced?

in her first landing that she participates in, she gets fairly seriously wounded but does survive, which in that context is a pretty great outcome. mostly she's mentally/emotionally affected by all the death around her on either side, which really puts the pain in her arm out of her mind. she's not doing well by her world being rocked by this devastation though!

hide: What does your OC hide? Why do they hide it?

at the start of the story she's not hiding much, she's just trying to make things work and slowly climb the ranks like she knows she's supposed to. but I think her intense desire to join the force is her hiding away from her life on earth, from her family and her status as the unfavored child and just start fresh in that post-teenage way

3. Do you leave the window open at night?

Not usually, because it's so humid and buggy here (we have screens on all the windows but still!). There is a decent period between needing A/C and needing to turn the heat on when we have the windows open throughout the house in the day, but we usually close the bedroom ones before sleep (if not the whole house, for security reasons). Our neighbors' house is VERY close to our bedroom windows and they are very young and always have lights on and are sometimes a bit loud about heading in and out, so even if the weather conditions were perfect we'd probably need to shut the bedroom windows anyway :lolsob:

34. is there a song you know every word to by heart?

SO MANY! I sometimes feel like I can't fit new info in my noggin because so much of it is just song lyrics. However, I recently learned that long-term memory is basically infinite so that can't be it.

Possibly my favorite song memorization is "What I Got" by Sublime, haha

38. a soap bar that smells good?

This one is so funny but I am a soap enthusiast! I got this fancy soap in a cute little shop and it smells like a "rainstorm" or something and I love it?! I also always have a regular old bar of Dial soap on hand and there's something comforting about the basic-ass fresh Dial soap smell. Every summer I get a bottle of Dr. Bronner's peppermint liquid soap to shower with, but sometimes I get the bar soap version too. And sometimes I treat myself to one of the absurd brightly colored Lush soaps. I got the Outback Mate and it's sooooo pretty.
